Uh she got them through the first three. I I think if she struggles a little bit with walks in the fourth, you probably have to think about cashing, but let's let's see what she can do here. Um especially with the bottom of the order coming up. >> It's 89 and one. Mia Poles will take upstairs for ball one. >> Poles is 0 for one so far. N and if you got a chance to bring it in for the lead off the lead off hasn't been wed twice. >> That one is outside. Two balls and no strikes. >> Not very aggressive on the basis. >> Here comes the two. >> That's a strike. >> It's two and one. Decent sized crowd here this afternoon. Big turnout. >> Yeah, nice to see some folks come out on senior night. All the parents are definitely here to to be in attendance.
Um and I know we talked about, you know, there's a ton of stuff once they get back in session, you know, we've talked about going up to the capital and stuff. So, they do have a ton of stuff um on the calendar. They were um talking about um following up with some people on career day. Um I guess there's students looking for um like internships kind of or some guidance on, you know, areas of interest, especially we had some that were very well attended. So, Liam was going to reach out to quite a few of them to see if they were willing to take some of our um older students under their wings, just, you know, maybe shadow them for a day, see if it's something that they're still interested in. So, Liam and Marnie are really working behind the scenes and Ron Jaffy to figure it out.
This is all three years. I'm proud of what we're doing. I'm proud of our kids. It makes me so happy when I hear the kids get up and speak about. That's why we're here. Sometimes these adults start fighting over. I like to thank the board for all their hard work. Thank you. >> Okay. 6.3. So, we'll go over the trustee assignments for the class of 2026 commencement ceremonies. So, we'll have Jackie Libera and Stacy Adams at Anderson Union High School June 4th at 8:00 p.m. at the Bob Reed Stadium. Joe Gibson is going to be at West Ali Fair Early College High School June 4th at 800 PM Fairley Stadium Weeks will be at Anderson Newch High School June 4th 7:30 p.m. I'll be at the Cascade Theater and Julie will be at an alternative education sites June 5th at 11 a.m. at the So moving on to 6.4 the summary of board self evaluation responses.
As you know, we currently have uh the addition of two TK classrooms and a new TK um playground on the site. Um unbeknownst to us during planning for that project, the campus um has some pretty important needs for special education students on the kindergarten uh playground as well as the main playground for campus. They currently have uh seven or eight students who are wheelchair bound. And um we would really like to create some inclusive play on their campus to um make it so that the students have an equal experience at school. So, what you have in front of you is a declaration of futility. Um it basically is stating that since we already have a contract um under construction on a major portion of the campus, that um we move forward with awarding the work to that contractor that is already on site, which is United Building Contractors.
It is so important that you acknowledge that and it's an important part of the community and we will stand up against any cuts to the music program or any or the theater as parents. Thank you for your time and I hope you have a good end of the year and I appreciate you listening to my comments. Okay. >> If you if you'd like to comment how that's fine. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. I uh I didn't want to jump in and insert myself into the other earlier speeches. I know Ed's gone, but that's okay because he already knows how I feel about him. Um but I did want it to be recorded in the minutes that I wished him well and congratulated him personally and professionally myself. Uh it's somebody that I've worked with every day almost every other day for eight years the entirety of the first sevenear stretch and then the intern period and of the five superintendents that I've worked with and I'm just getting to work with Dr.
But, I do want to be clear about something. The the need for buildings and grounds um and that department was not established for one particular person to move over to that. >> aware of that. I And I And I And I understand that. >> We would hope not, right? Right. And right. We would hope not. >> I was just making sure. I just wanted to make sure that that was the >> I mean, it is something you've chatted about before, and you you know, we've looked at it you know, it was This wasn't a brand new thing. But, part of the reasons it was coming around this time was because of some personnel. So, I just think >> Yeah, it was a it was it was going to be a perfect match. >> Right. So. And then Michael, when you I also just had, you know, a couple of general questions about the utilities expenses line and the contracted services line cuz they both saw substantial increase, right?
A few fans that don't normally get here came as well. So nice to support these three seniors in their second to last uh regular season game. It's certainly not their last game as they will be playing in postseason play. Yeah, I feel like it's a lot easier to come out when it's this type of weather rather than earlier in the season when it's 40° >> as that is ball four that just missed. So, Vapoles will walk to lead off. >> So, I'm tapping the helmet on that one. Love to see where that missed. I want to see the ABS, but I I I I just, you know, it's tough when you when you are not throwing consistent strikes. You're not going to get those close calls because she has been missing a lot. So unfortunate recipient of getting squeezed just a tiny bit there I think for Ustaris.
So, All right. Good job. >> have much. They're looking for people though, I do know that and they are extending, um I believe, a message that's going to go to Dean because we have expressed interest in trying to get some of our younger students involved, like maybe at the seventh, eighth grade level. So, we um we were >> [clears throat] >> engaged in those uh communications earlier this morning, uh Principal Beland uh Rend and myself. And so, I know Principal Beland, I saw his come out. I think Dean was getting it situated to go out. So, I'm hoping it goes out within the next day or so, yeah. Yep, definitely. And uh yeah, thank Liam. He's uh he's been, you know, advocating for trying to get that going. So, he's great. Excellent. All right, thank you. All right, that's the subcommittee reports. As for the student representative, as you Sorry, Chair.
Is thisformational? Anybody have anything like that? I'd like to um I'd like to say I was the one of the two that did not submit evaluation because I do not I want you to make sure you can quote me as one who did not submit it. do not blame Julia or Mana or Jackie or Joe or whoever else you would like to blame. I was one who did not submit it. So, make sure you quoted me that I was one or why. That was my comment. Thank you. That was my comment. Okay. So, moving on to 6.5. The selection of student board member for the 202627 school year. We had three candidates. Ryan Goldberg Well, all the information there for you resume you guys make decision. I don't want to give any >> I'll make a motion for Michaela from a second. >> I'll second it.
And it's in the amount of $686,550 and 61 cents. The reason we do this resolution is because there is a labor code provision that um no no single change order should be awarded that exceeds 10% of contract without this uh resolution. So, that's why you're seeing that tonight. Thank you.
at Bella. Now, um you know, he he's really special. Um everybody's special. You develop friendships with people. Um you know, work in friendships. And I just wanted to mention a couple things. The two things I recall the most about him is how accessible he was in addition to the stability of his leadership and the ability to always make everyone feel they were heard. And the second thing is um you know, how he was never afraid to give it to anybody straight and be straightforward even if the answer was nobody. especially with the public. It feels like yesterday when I was telling this board, you know, God, it's a fiscal calamity. But if there's anybody prepared to give it to the public straight no chaser, it's Dr. Fortoer. And uh he should get credit. I think somebody should mention that he was here for the beginning year, the first year in a lot of ways, the most difficult year of that pandemic.
>> I would I would echo those questions as well. And the and the final one actually in terms of the fields if if the Stone Park is going to be managed and so we're going to rent that similarly to what we do with some of our other fields. Is that true or Correct. And we currently rent rent it. Yeah, no, I know, but now it's it's going to become it so that that part of money, anything that gets rented from Stone Park goes to the town side and the schools rent they they receive those funds. That's correct. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Well, this this is good and this is helpful and this gives me some good feedback in order and I can put something together and and work with our team and answer some of those specific questions that you have some specific concerns. Thank you for the >> And I can have that for us at the next meeting.
Another free pass >> as that is a swing and a miss by Alexis Cahill. The throw back to first on the back pick is not in time. >> Got to make sure we're moving on the outfield on there. We, you know, throw down to first base. We got to get the movement from that right field just in case there's a there's a missed play. I think he might have caught the right fielder by mistake by by surprise. >> That one's outside. >> Looking better. >> Kahill's 0 for one. She did walk. Six walks for that. That does include the intentional walk. >> A one-1 count here. That just missed again. Two and one. Seems like she's just flirting with the zone here. Yeah, she's she's been closer. She's she's missing smaller than she's been missing, but still unfortunately um not finding that strike zone. >> Here comes the 2-1.
There isn't one more. Can I make a motion that would to give an update from the Brookfield Cares Committee, please? Sure. I'll second that. Thank you. That's yeah, okay. All those in favor, please indicate by saying aye. Aye. All right, take it away. I'm just going to uh Marnie actually shared an update. We had, um, a Narcan and QPR training that happened today. Uh, so this is hot off the press. So, I'm just going to read some of her notes here. Um, so we had 11 students attend the training today. Uh, youth officer Heller did the Narcan training and Western Connecticut Coalition did the QPR training. Students will receive certificates for completing the training as well as community service hours. Uh, overall, we are so happy with how it went and we'll be talking with the school again about doing a similar program in the fall with the inclusion of a presentation on sports betting, which we learned, um, was, uh, a topic of conversation in in the Search Institute survey, um, that Brookfield did.
>> Okay. Do we have any other motion to entertain? Seeing none, all in favor? Hi. 6.6. Consideration of transitioning from trustee area elections to at large elections for governing board members. This is a discussion item. It was submitted by Jackie. Do we have any other board members that would like to discuss or should we >> I was part of that study. >> Okay. And I thought that study was very good. I like the fact it breaks it out so different areas get to vote and we spent a lot of money to do that and I think we're complying with the law that we for like >> I don't like it. Um I don't think it gives everybody the right to vote. I think it segregates people um in certain areas. Um, when you're out in the country, it limits how many people are out there.
I'll answer any questions you might have. Do any board members have any questions? I'm assuming that the term so that declaring the futility is it like a legal term that that comes up? Is that Is that true? Yeah, I assume so. Any public comment? Okay, this is a action item. Is there a board member who has a motion regarding this agenda item? I move that resolution 1726-26 is passed. I'll second. I'll second that motion. We have a motion by member Hayes and a second by member Robinson. Any further discussion? Let's go ahead and vote at this time. All of those in favor of um business item 8 B 1 signify by saying I. I. >> I. Opposed? All right, this passes 4 to 0. Thank you. Thank you. Okay, moving along 8 B 2. This is public hearing discussion action item a fee justification study and adoption of resolution number 1725-26 change in statutory school fees.
Um and that was a once in a hundred year thing. And between that and fiscal crisis, you know, there's not too many things that a school district has confronted that are more difficult than that. There's a few, I'm not going, we never had those. But, um, you know, Ed was a great professional, great friend. I just want to record it in the minutes that, uh, I said so long as we have to. Um, so for whatever, thank you, Miss. Okay. Seeing no further public comment, we will move on to agenda item two, board comments. And I will open the floor to any board members. >> So, I will try to go It's been a busy couple weeks. Um, first and foremost, I wanted to take a moment to recognize and congratulate the Bordontown Regional High School History Club. Um, I'm not sure if everyone is aware, but they did partner with the Bordontown Historical Society and unveiled a banner celebrating revolutionary era figures connected to our community.
Thanks for the discussions. Any other questions or comments? On this on this topic? Okay. Thank you, Michael. Appreciate that. Thank you, Rebecca. Appreciate it as well. Uh next on next on the agenda is um town council evaluation and the timeline to get this evaluation completed. Um it's my understanding we're going to use the same eval form. Yeah, but I believe Susan and already sent it out I think today or yesterday. It's yep, it's in the Google Doc. Um and then so is the timeline cuz we have to Do we have We have to make a decision before July 1st? That's correct. So, when do you want them I'm sorry, Brandy, when would you like them returned? >> [laughter] >> Oh man, I was not prepared for a Um okay, let me look at a calendar. Brandy, do you want me to give you the timeline that was suggested?
That's a ground ball back to the mound. Us will get it to second for one. Merl's throw to first is late. So, a fieldielder's choice for Cahill, but that's a big big out getting the lead runner. >> Yeah, important to get the lead runner there. I think they made a good choice. Uh, Nico feels the ball well, gets it over to Lexi. Just, you know, Lexi hasn't played a ton of short stop this season. I don't think she was going to get her even with a with a perfect relay anyways, but like to see them go for it. Um, but, you know, getting that lead runner is huge. And we get the courtesy runner for the pitcher as well. >> In the top of the lineup, Mia French 0 for one. She has walked. >> So, now back to the top as that one's upstairs.
So, just a big thank you to Brookfield Cares, uh, and Principal Belanger and all the folks that were involved in pulling that together today. Excellent. Thank you. I would just second that. Principal Belanger spoke, um, highly of that and and thought it was just a great opportunity for our kids to be a part of. So, that was great. >> Yeah. Excellent. Thank you. >> Thank you. Absolutely. Thank you. Um, all right. So, as for student representative, uh, Emily, she's running a little bit late. Congratulations to her as well. She is being inducted into the National Honor Society. Uh, so I we did speak to Russell where we can always she can come in whenever she said and make her announcements. Shouldn't be any issues. So, um, on that note, we'll move to the consent agenda. I move that the board approve the items on the consent agenda as follows: transfers, resignations, retirements, reduction in force, April financials and budget transfers.
