They will go to the plate. Lurai gets the out at the plate. A great job and a nice throw. She had to get it there quickly. >> That's a good play by Colette at third base. That that ball wasn't as hot as she probably wanted it to be, so she had to get it out of her glove quickly. A good throw over to Vendetti, who stretches a little bit uh to to get the play. Not fast enough to be able to get the 523 double play, but I think that's more because the the the ball just didn't have enough juice on it off the bat. as Isabelle Walsh will ground one up to Lexi Merlone and the throw to first is not in time. >> So the run does score and the game is tied. >> Yeah, that's unfortunate. That's unfortunate. You got to come you got to attack that ball.
>> And that was a longer conversation we were going to have anyway about the whole process, right? >> I I think I yeah, I think that yeah, I think that needs a lot more discussion and exploration, but you know, that we'll just have to see how that fits in, right, when when we're, you know, when we combine these committees together. Mhm. Okay. And I I can actually one add one little other piece of context. I had reached out to somebody that was part of the board when they separated out the facilities and the finance, and it was really driven because they were planning for the new elementary school about 10 years ago. I see some people, okay, shaking their head. So, I mean, that made sense at the time, right? You want that focus in. But now that we've come to a point where a lot of it is pretty standard business.
She's an elected official. It is a board policy of ours, not a government. >> Thank you. again. >> So you don't want to follow the rules is what you're saying. >> It doesn't make it doesn't matter if it makes sense. >> I think this is our meeting. >> You work for us. >> Excuse me. Excuse me. This is a board meeting held in public. >> It's not a public meeting with board after this gentleman. >> Let me point something out. Let me point something out. This is just not a board policy. This is a government code, California code. It is the attorney general of California wrote this policy. It's not just us. It's the state of California. >> Technically, we don't have to >> be like us having bring in a senator from from Oklahoma to be on our on our Senate. They don't represent us.
Any further discussion? Let's go ahead and vote. All of those in favor if I may say "I". I. I. Opposed? Okay, this passes 4 to 0. Thank you. All right. Um we are moving along to 8 B3. Um discussion action. Um this is regarding the 2026 summer projects presented by um Eric German. So thank you once again for allowing me to come up here and just present these projects to you. And you know, I always like to give a shout out to our CCEA employees. Um the amount of work they get done over the course of the year and especially over the summer. Um our expectations are always high on them and with the increase in summer programs that we're running, those expectations increase even more. You know, we look at our summers now as really starting in July with the amount of students we're having on campus.
Um, so now just a few housekeeping items. um reminders for the board mostly, but just also so the community knows what's going on and the work that the board is doing. Um one of the board goals that we set back in um December or January, I can't remember, they all blend together, was to um focus on board development and one of the goals was a board retreat. So, we will be doing that on Saturday the 30th. Um our start time is 10 a.m. And I promise you, we'll have an email uh with a start time and an agenda from me um later tonight or no later than tomorrow morning. Um, so we look forward to that as well as our next board meeting will be on June 10th where we already had talked about an executive session. We now know that there are two items that we need to address um in executive session.
We don't have to dance around it. Um you know, I I know there's some board members that are not exactly pleased with the way some of the things with 1060 have been handled. Um and uh I I probably would reserve some of my comments about that to exact session. Um but I will say um that everything that I have seen out of our attorneys they have acted on the board's direction, not necessarily individuals. So, Michael, I know that you're that's directed at me and my making requests and asking town council >> Not not just not just you, Glynis. Okay, well, I know that I'm at least one of the people that that's being directed towards. Um and I think that in many cases when I happen to to be around the building when town council was was here for meetings um and might ask a question or whatever or sometimes um if I reached out it would be copied to you and then often when town council didn't respond to those questions for me, I would then talk to you or um other board members.
I don't know if Lexi has played enough innings this year at shortstop. Would have loved to have seen her really attack that ball and maybe even try to get the out at second base. Instead, she let it come to her. Um, no chance at that point. The ball just wasn't coming fast enough for her to even have uh the opportunity to make the play at first. Uh, and a a good decision there by by Kyrie to not go over to third base on the throw. We saw her thinking about it as the runner got off, but she made a good decision to just run her back and keep the bases loaded here with two outs. It looks like there's a conversation maybe about a potential runner obstruction. Yeah, it looks like Lexi Maloney fell back after she made the throw. I don't know if the runner heading to third base.
Um I think it makes sense to reassess the focus. I fully support that. I think having been on facilities and then then subsequently part of conversations around finance and board updates or subcommittee updates at the board meetings, I think that makes a lot of sense. I think it um functions them functioning independently creates an overlap as you were saying, and there's a lot of double reporting. So, I think that's a really great idea. I think um considering the membership on both committees, it seems to work to just seamlessly integrate. So, Aaron, Joy, and Caroline with Rob being an ex-officio member. So, I looked into Robert's Rules, um the committee chair can be an ex-officio member of any subcommittee without creating a quorum. Um you just don't have a vote. >> The board chair, not committee chair. Sorry, the board chair. Yes, the Board of Ed chair can um be an ex-officio member at any unless our policy states otherwise, and our policy does not We don't have a bylaws.
So, she can't be on our board. Well, she's done a good job. I'm not arguing that that she's we're not following the rules and we should have been. >> Thank you. I I um I disagree because you have been aware of this or whatever. >> It was brought to us by the by the >> you knew about it. And we we also have the ability to um to choose not to vote for >> technically speaking the rules. >> This is why people have no respect for you guys. Like you're wondering why we're speaking over you. It's stuff like this. Like if you can't follow your own bylaws, then how are we supposed to have any faith in the >> decision? You're going to speak. >> I know. I'm waiting. Okay. Let's go ahead and hear from the public >> and then we'll return to board.
So we're kind of condensing the amount of work we're expecting out of them to get done and you know it's amazing how much they can accomplish and what they still get done for us. Um can't can't really praise them enough for what they do. Um summer projects, you guys have the list that we have submitted to you. Um every year we try to do things that just kind of help our schools the longevity of them. Things like the asphalt repair, the overhang repairs, roofing projects, um just kind of general maintenance items that are just kind of routine things we have to do to keep keep the schools functioning, keep them running. Um and those are kind of what we're submitting to you. And then on top of these projects, we also have our work order system where we get a lot of projects or work orders submitted to us throughout the year that just aren't practical to do when the students are on campus.
So we will have another early start 5:30 again on uh June 10th, but that should position us well to uh um to finish out and get into July. So I believe that is every everything. Is there anything else from any members of the board before I ask any close? Okay, we'll ask for a motion to close. >> Thank you, uh, Miss Nikk. Thank you very much. All in favor? >> I You're closed. Thank you everyone for being here tonight.
So, um you know, I may have stepped out of line a little bit on that. Um but ultimately then then town council I believe should have um you know, offered me some kind advice. But regardless, um it isn't just about 1060. I think that I mean, I know for one I have concerns about um some of the other advice that that we've been given, especially um in relationship to town meeting last week. Yeah. And Claudia, I I I I want to um questions and everything uh of of council um on an individual basis are certainly fine. I I Please don't don't take it to mean that. Um just in terms of of their stance on certain things and um maybe how they've approached certain things um would be based on uh board action. But but please don't uh don't take what I said as um as meaning board members shouldn't feel like they can ask questions on an individual basis.
Uh that was Abby Johnson may have ran into her in the base path. >> I didn't see any contact. >> Yeah, I I didn't I didn't see any interference. I I think it never hurts to ask and have the question. Obviously, a good conversation to have if you can steal one, but nonetheless, the run comes across and uh it's three to three and we're we're in >> as Clinton flies it to right. Cotch goes back and it's over her head. One run scores, two run scores. Here comes the third and it's a bases clearing double for Eve Clinton. And Westwood takes a 63 lead in the fourth. Yeah, I'm not sure if maybe Taylor watched that one in the sun a little bit. First, I thought she had a I thought she had a uh line on it, but then it just snuck over her head and unfortunately there was some speed on the base paths and it's a threerun double.
>> No, so if our bylaws dictate something specific about subcommittees and attendance and the chair, then we um we uh conform to our bylaws. Our bylaws simply state that subcommittees are formed, and they report to the Board of Ed. So, um Rob being an integral part of the Finance Committee, obviously it would still be, you know, I think I personally my in thinking about it, you would still attend. Um and then the three of you would continue to do the business that you've been doing just joint. Mhm. >> So, that I I think that would be and then as the new member comes on, we can re-evaluate once we, you know, have more information, but >> person. >> Yeah. But it would seem like that would make sense if everyone's >> Yeah. I agree. I I like the efficiency of it and um it's really just about being more efficient really is what it is.
>> I'll be I'll be quick. Um, first thing is just a couple points. I've only been to the last like five board meetings and Jackie's been here two of them. It's like I've seen so many issues get kicked down the road because everyone wants to hear what Jackie has to say, but she doesn't show up. And the other thing is this is a great opportunity to get to test drive a person in that seat. If we get someone for a few months, we get to take a look how they are and then you can vote for them in the election. So >> I'm asking you to ultimately I know you guys don't want to hear from me. I've said a lot. It's ultimately comes down to like the integrity of the board itself. You guys were appointed by the public. You said that she's done a great job.
So we spend a lot of our summers with the work orders that we consider summer projects as well that our crews will be working on whether that's replacing lighting in classrooms to carpeting to flooring to wall repairs and you name it our guys uh jump in there and and take care of it. Um So, just love to ask if there's any comments you guys had or questions you had on some of the projects. I think Good evening, Eric. Thank you. Um you already know what one of mine is the uh the first [clears throat] thing on the list for this year was one of the same things that was on the list for last year. And um that's putting lights on the flagpoles at our sites. >> Yes. And in inquiring to you, thank you for the response, um that work has begun. Yes, we have started some of them.
I didn't mean it that way. We're good? Okay. Thank you. Next on the agenda is discuss, review, and vote on the donated beach uh bench policy. I wish it was a beach. Yeah, I was about to say. I'm in favor of the beach policy, so. >> [laughter] >> So, it's slip of tongue, but it's okay. Did this Was this discussed at a previous meeting and then this is the follow-up to it? Okay, I have not had a chance to watch that. Um Um, I have one question on this. I'm noticing that it's going through that the town manager is deciding on the bench policy. And I just want to find out how that came to be. Well, I I think it's it should be the enforcement of of um of the policy. Of of the policy. So, I I had a couple questions about it.
Uh and now it's a six-3 lead on a double to right field. >> Yeah, that's a tough first uh you know, the first action you get out there in right field is a fly ball, you know, deep that you have to go back on. >> And there and it is a tough sun out here. We're looking at it. So, I can imagine that Taylor is fighting it bad because anytime I look up, it is directly in my eyes. So, I don't know if that one uh was one that she may have lost for a moment right in the sun. >> So, Katherine Granada will bat next. She's 0 for two so far this afternoon. Now, Eve Clinton sits at second base. They are one out away from getting out of this inning as that one does bounce in front of Vendetti. The throw to third gets by into shallow left field, but Clinton will stay at third.
I like, you know, just speaking about overlapping and whatnot, so >> Mhm. Mrs. Diar, thank you. This is really helpful. Just just to I don't see it. You don't mind either way? I don't mind either way. There were two >> It doesn't matter to me. I mean, I do need somebody from facilities to attend municipal building cuz I'm still listed and they keep asking where I am and I told them that. Oh. The municipal facilities. Yeah, yeah, there's somebody supposed to be a representative and I did it and then it was supposed to be then Sarah took it over and no one's been there. So, >> We attended We attended >> [laughter] >> the last meeting but not last night, right? But at last night was the We would We attended the meeting because >> usually it's usually the day before and sometimes I can make it work, but I don't want to say that I can if I >> like you're still listed as the >> I saw that.
We disagree. So, that's part of it, too. Naturally, you may have your own bias, but we have our opinions. We don't feel like Jackie's done a great job. In fact, like he mentioned, I've been coming to every single board meeting since you guys denied my dad's reinstatement in February, and I've not seen Jackie once, not once since that meeting. Somehow I have two toddlers at home and somehow I'm making it every month. So no, she's I disagree that she actually is not doing a good job. I don't think she's doing a good job at all and she's violating the bylaws that are set in place for a reason. So I understand that you're saying it doesn't make sense. That's a very convenient copout, but there's bylaws for a reason. So it may not make sense to you, but you you swore you were sworn in on these bylaws.
