And as well, adding a day in November um because we were taking a look at the impact of the um different holidays in November. And by embedding a non-student day um late in November, you can see on uh November 12th, we hope to significantly improve our attendance rate by having that be a non-student day. We can add a student day to the week coming into school. If we didn't do that, school would start on a Friday, which I don't think many people want to do. Um it does allow our staff to come in two or three days before the first day of school after the weekend. And you know, financially, it's definitely a win for us. So, can you tell me um the October day it It looks like it's October 4th. Oh, it is October 4th. Okay. What's the October 25th? That's a district-wide staff development day.
>> I'll second that. All those in favor? Aye. Aye. It becomes 5-0. All right, moving on with I don't know if we need to discuss this. I think we've had it. This was part of a discussion earlier, but I'll bring it up again. Discuss athletic fields transfer to the school department. I think we've already done that, right Michael? Yeah, we did and just uh to clarify to add just a little bit more to that. So, we did uh we've we've started transferring some of um identifying equipment that you know could possibly be transferred along uh with the responsibility to the school department. Uh it looks like we're still there's not much that's going to be able to be transferred, but um we're we're looking at that list which is going to be pretty substantial. And then yes, we're continuing to do the scheduling and everything um up until July 1st.
Out happens at first base. Bring up Quinn Herder and then we can turn it over to the top of the order. I'd love to see Quinn keep this in going here with only one out. >> Here comes the first pitch. Herder smokes it into center field. It is off the base of the wall. It gets by Poles. Creman scores easily and Herder is into second standing up. What a way to celebrate your senior day. It's an RBI double that ties the game in the fourth. >> I couldn't be happier for Quinn. Uh she has been waiting to really put her one all year long. What a tremendous hit. She picked She picked senior day to have her best hit of the year. An absolute poke off the bottom of the fence. And that's a that's an RBI double. And more importantly, she just tied the game up with a major clutch hit uh by the by the senior on senior day.
Um and he said, "I think if if if I have a week um Joe and I can do this ourselves." And so he was able they were able to take one of these sections pictured next to that boiler with those ladder. Um you can see those sections. They're sort of separated. They were able to take one of those sections from boiler number three and put it into boiler number two. That worked at that time. >> This was last year. This was about I think I don't know if it was last year or the year before. Could have been prior to the previous heating season. >> Okay. We were able to do that at that time because boiler number one had zero leaks. It was running you know beautifully at that time. Um and so because we have to take the boiler totally down and off in order to make this repair.
So I would like to be able to read it again. >> One person I need to have second on that. >> I have to accept it. I've got a motion out there right now. >> Someone can motion you. >> No, but when you made a second not to that was my second discussion and we're doing >> so we could vote on the first motion. We can amend a motion to table. >> Does he have to accept in order to amend >> is that someone this is new guys. I know you think we're all professional sometimes the first time ever. So this is a new thing in my experience. law usually when a motion is made second then discussion then there's a vote sounds like it's going to be I don't know how long be two two nos you want to put one yes trusty if it's a two two vote is no action you have to have three you know not majority I think the best thing to do is vote on the current motion if it doesn't pass make a motion to bring it back and have a discussion, give lawyers advice, rewatch it, but I think we should follow the first motion and that's correct.
I see. Okay. It's hard to see. It's so tiny. Yeah. Well, Erica is going to work her magic and make They're going to look great on the website. She's really good at it. But the one The nice thing about the October 4th date is that it's essentially we've got September what, September 6th, October 4th, and then we jump into into November with quite a few holidays, so it's a good balance. Well, I really appreciate the thoughtfulness of having that the 12th off in November because then you have um Veterans Day, 11 11 is a federal holiday, and then I think it's smart to have just go ahead and schedule that in as a non-student day, which allows families to perhaps travel or go visit or just relax. Yeah. So. Any public comment? Okay. Think we're ready to go ahead and make a motion then at this time.
Mhm. And would that transfer? Is there any other discussion or questions concerning this? No, we yeah, we covered a lot of it. I think we're we're talking about building >> have to ask. I want to get the hell out. Okay. We'll move on to the next item. Discuss scholarships. I'm going to hand that over to Claudia. Yes, so the scholarship for the Ashland High School or I should say students um that live in Ashland and the application process was uh finished as of last Friday night uh May 15th. We have 13 applicants at this time. Um so, Makayla and I will be meeting and those are for two $2,000 scholarships, which will then be awarded and on the June uh 5th class day. Morning. Joe, you're not part of the scholarship committee this year? No. Oh, okay. >> they they threw me out. >> [laughter] >> I'm only kidding.
>> Yes, in the top of the lineup of Nico Usaris, who is two for two. She shows Bunt and pulls it back and we spoke it into existence. The Clockers needed a big inning. They needed to get hits with runners in scoring position and they have done that and more here so far in the fourth and they are looking like they're not done yet. Here's the one one. That's outside. Two balls and a strike. >> She brought a little something, little extra mustard on that pitch. That's the hardest I've seen her throw today. Uh she certainly brought higher velocity than we have seen all game long. Uh >> 2-1 is upstairs 3 and one. >> So what a what a pleasure it was to have coach Terrosian join us today. He is he has just signed off. He does have a prior engagement that he had to move on to, but really a true pleasure to get to do the game with him and I hope that we can do it again sometime soon.
The way we are operating now with boiler number one and boiler number two both having serious leaks in the the boiler number two has had a consistent leak that is progressing. Boiler number one is again that boiler that has been um very reliable, has sprung five sections of leaks in the last month, three weeks really even. Um and so so we are not in a position to be able to reliably take any boiler um offline and and know that for we will have um continue to have heat for for a year or for a week. Um and so that that's a real predicament. So, we as you know, we did some research. We said we need to investigate a couple different options, again knowing that the big picture solution to this is is with a full HVAC upgrade plan for the building. Um that RFP, just as an update, that RFP has been released.
So, I called for the motion. Now, we vote. >> So, do we have a vote for Joe's motion? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, all in favor? All right. >> No. So, um, in regarding this topic, I would like Jackie to have her opinion to be able to show proof that she is not a resident. I'm hearing from the public that she's not a resident. Um, but I would like to see some proof. So I would like to say no on this to go ahead with the next motion table. >> So I make a motion to table this and do some more research for the leg of it for ED code and responsibility under ED code. All in favor motion. >> Okay, moving on to 6.8. Appointment of new board president. In the event the current clerk of the board is appointed as board president, the board will discuss and appoint a new clerk of the board.
I will go ahead and approve um the updated 2027 or make a motion to approve the updated 27 28 student calendar. I'll second it. Okay. Motion by member uh President Conklin and a second by Vice President Olson. Um any further discussion? Okay, let's go ahead and vote. All of those in favor signify by saying "Aye". Aye. >> Aye. Opposed? All right, this passes. Thank you. >> Thank you. All right, uh moving along um to agenda item 8D1. This is um informational only. Um we're going to be doing a first reading of the revised updated new board policies and um Superintendent uh Greg Blake will be doing that this time. >> So So, this is the uh we have six that we're bringing forward uh for a first reading. So, you will have these um until we eventually bring them to you for a final vote on June 17th.
Joe. >> new blood. New blood, right, Makayla? New blood. >> you New blood. I wanted to try it. I used to be on the okay. >> Absolutely. I have no problem with that. >> to play with it. I have no problem [laughter] with that. New blood. It's good. It works for everybody. All right. And then just not necessary the scholarship, we've also already also received our invite to both class day and graduation, both happening on the same day. Class day is happening Friday during the day, and then graduation is that night. Yep. Yep. Yeah, on a Friday. Yeah. Yeah. Second year they're doing that. >> Something new. It's the second year they're doing that. >> Yeah. Something new. It's It's actually It's It's good to get it all like in one day. It's It It makes it easy for the parents, too. Mhm. >> want to get on schedule.
>> So then there were two just the two of us now Jacob. And now another runner on base. The third time that Niko Sars has reached. She walks and it seemed like Cahill just really didn't want to pitch to her. >> Yeah, which I don't necessarily blame her in that situation. Don't give her anything good to hit. Make it make her make a bad decision maybe. But Nico's not going to chase. She's not a kid who chases bad balls. is up as that one's popped into right. The catch is made and Herder will stay at second. A nice grab from Rafon there and that is out number two as Beerman flies out and Ava Vanetti will have a chance here. A couple runners on and two outs. Yeah, good good spot here for Ava to be in. A looking for her first hit of the day.
It is on the town website, it's on the state website, so we will, you know, start having, you know, building walk-throughs for that for that project, but that's more long-term. That's, you know, two to three, maybe four heating seasons out. And so what we need is an interim solution to ensure that we have heat beginning, you know, September 15th, October 15th um for the building. And so we looked we got quotes for a boiler rental cuz believe it or not, as as I reported a couple weeks ago, you can rent boilers. The cost of that was about $176,415. That was for the rental, it did not include um site supervision. That would be an additional cost as well as a few additional hookups, engineering hookups. So, all in you're thinking I'm you know, we were estimating maybe 210 to 230 thousand dollars for a seasonal rental of a boiler.
So, first let's address the new board president. >> Motion waits. >> So, all in favor? >> I Oh, boy. All right. So now it's over. Clerk for the board. I'd like to nominate Julia. >> I'll second. Great. >> Okay. All in favor? >> I >> Okay. 69 resolution ordering governing board election and specifications of the election order. >> This is what we have to do every year prior to the election. nothing to do with the agenda tonight. It's just share what we do with the county regard. >> Great. Okay. Do we have a motion? >> A second.
So, plenty of time to take a look at them and ask any questions you might have and we can help you um with whatever you need to uh look at these and determine on the 17th whether or not that we move forward with them. That's it. Thank you.
>> I can imagine. Yep. >> Celebrations and things of the like that. Okay. All right, Michael. Updates on 40B projects. I can turn it over to you or I can turn it over to Catherine. Yeah, I just let me pull this up really quick. Um Okay. Um so right now there's there's still 140B that's undergoing active review before the ZBA. Um and that would be 55 West Union Street. Uh so the deadline to close the hearing was actually in February, but we have received extensions, the latest being April 14th. Um so the hearing and public comment period does does remain open. Um And right now the big issue that is before the ZBA right now is the placement of the sewer line. Um that is still being discussed and still being worked on. Right now the ZBA, the DPW, uh town council, our peer reviewers, and the staff, and the and the applicant.
She's she's put her bat in the ball uh pretty nicely, but hasn't been able to find a gap just yet. This is the time to do it. >> First pitch is popped up into shallow center, who has it. It will drop as Usares rounds third. She'll stay there into second base goes Vendetti. There was about four people who had a chance to make a play and it dropped in between all of them. >> Yeah, that ball was high, but it was in no man's land. That was that was literally in no man's territory. I don't think anybody really took ownership over it um by the Westwood defense. And luckily it it drops in and this this gives us a really good spot right now uh for Caroline Kyra to be in in a clutch situation with two outs in the bottom of the fourth with runners in scoring position.
Exactly. Um and so with that thinking, we said, "Okay, well, what what would the cost be of just replacing one of these boilers? If we have one boiler that we know is, you know, um you know, under warranty, can you know, run efficiently, heat the entire building. So, initially, in speaking with um a contractor and seeing the cost of the rental, we were told, "It'll be about" and I think I we reported this, "It'll be um it'll be about the same cost of a boiler rental, if not maybe even a a little bit less." Well, we got the quote Last week. >> Last week. That cannot be the case. >> That is not the case. No. Um that is not the case and right? So, and it is to replace a one of these steam boilers with a brand new steam boiler that will service the building for the next 30 to 40 years.
Is there any discussion? See none. >> All in favor? >> I. >> 6.10 10 resolution to establish procedure for tie votes. >> Same thing how we handle the process. >> All in favor? Hi. >> Hi. >> 6.11 resolution regarding the cost of candidate statements. >> Again, same thing. The district did not pay for statements. They did it on their own. >> Second. >> All in favor? I >> 612. Review of AR 6115 ceremonies and observances. So if you recall the board um had passed policy district only black and then we were in transition from CSBA policy small policy. They submitted update and I missed it. The board missed it. We just approved the update and we failed to put back in what we about So I want your attention and want to know if you want to add that. That's what would do that. >> Okay.
