My child has three classes that happen outside. Um elementary school kids are outside a lot all day. Um and this data, while we say won't be used for facial recognition, the fact that that had to be taken off the table in the first place seems upsetting. Um will be stored somewhere. These images of our children, the gait in which they walk, the choices that they make of where to go on campus, who to interact with, that will be stored somewhere. That company might be shuttered and go somewhere else. We might have a 23andMe situation on our hands where we don't have control over that data that's happening with our students. Right now, many families in this district are familiar with the program I-Ready because our children use it in school. Right now, there's an ongoing federal lawsuit against this company, I-Ready, involving allegations about the collection and handling of student data and behavioral information.
Was that clear? Yeah, I I understand it, but I just I wonder if the developer if it's if it's on them that they haven't moved it along and yet we could fall out of safe harbor? Yeah. Which has happened to us already. I it's very frustrating. I I And when you look at 501 Pond or not 301. Which was uh Excuse me, 501 Pond. I'm sorry. I'm getting my pond streets mixed up. >> Yeah, 501, you're right. If Well, we uh So, that wasn't done as a comprehensive permit. That's called under the local initiative program. And so, to get qualified for that, you have to issue a building permit. You don't get the safe harbor until Excuse me, an occupancy permit. And so, those occupancy permits are issued. So, it's a little different than the 40B comprehensive permit. But, it's still part of the housing production plan.
>> Yes. Down to second went Rafon. >> So, like a sack bunt there. >> Yeah, sacrifice punt by by uh by uh Poles >> that just misses. And it's two balls and no strikes. this pitcher on pitcher battle. Nico really wants this one. Be nice to be able to get two outs before we get to the top. You don't want to turn the top over with one out and two on. >> Here comes the two swing and a miss. >> Little off speed pitch there by Ustar. She's she's she's worked that off speed pitch pretty well for swinging strikes today. Um love to see her continue to pound the strike zone here against Cahill. two and one is upstairs. >> You wonder if you know she's trying to work the strikeouts and sometimes that that can up your pitch count and and lead to walks.
And they're just swelling and then and then just sort of like oozing through the the membranes that are that are thinning thinning out. So um So yeah, great question Aaron cuz you're right that that that's a Sorry but does need to be addressed. Yeah. But we accounted for All right. Does that company make electric boilers too or not? >> [laughter] >> That's pretty good though. No, I know it's no such thing. No, it's no such thing. But that I just want to say real quick shout out to Dan and his crew for the amount of work. I remember when he was um when I was on facilities and he was making mixing and matching and I was highly impressed then. I'm even more impressed now seeing the pictures. So shout out to the the team for that. So thank you for that. Um is there anything else on that topic for now?
So even though we're not part of that grant, we could take the back five if you use your money cost. I think about $10,000,000 reduction if uses their grand if they use their grant funds, we still would be in. >> We are not in it. >> We're just using a company that isn't Yeah, I actually have a written statement from how great it's going. >> She was going to stay and read it but kind of got session. She talked about how um specific students including a student who lost her home to a fire was positively impacted by having school. She talked about how she's seen an increase in specific students attendance that we've noticed for a long time or students who had very high behaviors downhall. through this culture. They're super helpful. Even if there's um not necessarily students or the other day we had to move a bunch of chairs from one classroom to another one.
Things that I'm sure we were not thinking would happen when we originally purchased I-Ready, but that lawsuit is still going on while the company denies that any any wrongdoings. That case is still going on and from what I read is very concerning. But, that's exactly the point. Parents are increasingly being asked to trust larger education technology systems with huge amounts of information about our children before we really understand the long-term implications, safeguards, and future risks. I ask us to pause and not be on the bleeding edge of AI surveillance on our campuses. Let other districts with less concerned parents stumble across these thresholds and see what the ramifications of those choices are and then make different choices as a as a board and as a district. I ask that we pause and wait to make a decision based upon what we see evolving in AI technology in the future.
Correct. Yeah, and that that developer ended up just delaying. Correct. During >> 501. 501. So, which would have also moved us into That would put us in the safe harbor. And quality, you're starting to ar- articulate it some of the frustrations that we've experienced just with these 40Bs, knowing that we have plans um and we have put in place we did put in place things that we could do. We we took the action that we could to uh plan and prevent 40Bs from happening. It's just the private sector didn't go along with us. We can do the approvals, we can do all of that stuff, but if a developer decides not to build or decides not to move forward, we're hamstrung. Um which doesn't seem fair. No, and I think you know, as we look to advocate now in the coming months and and years potentially to with our legislature and uh um you know, I think that that's an area that we definitely need to be advocating about and and um the whole 40B process and um you know, that along with funding for communities versus how much the state currently funds us.
So sometimes you just have to let the defense work and this is a good defense behind her. So, you know, don't give them like something great to hit, but let him put the ball in play as that one misses for ball four. >> Yeah, just missed outside a little bit. I think Nico wanted that one, but that did look like it missed to me. Uh so, uh now now we've got runners on first and second with one out uh in the top of the order up. Probably a really good spot here um to to try to get a double play if at all possible for the Clockers. Yeah, French has been good at the top of the lineup. One for two, a walk and a double. Also scored a run for the Wolverines. And she takes ball one. >> Ground ball would be huge. >> That's a shot into left field.
Casey, you have anything else? Not Anything on the boilers, Jen? All right. All right. Yeah. Sweet. Mhm. Um I do motion for that? No, we can just go back to it. No, we can just go back to it. Hi Joy, welcome back. Congratulations to your son. Thank you. That's awesome. Really is. That really is awesome. Thank you. Um yeah, so we will go we are going to we are going to go back to the agenda item that we were discussing when you weren't here in regards to new business my agenda Yeah, it's 11. Thank you. I don't know what I'm doing with my agenda. It's supposed to be 11 at the bottom. Yes, about business and operations. So, Wendy brought up a good point that we should probably wait for you because you're on them. >> Yes. Did you guys have a discussion at all or not?
>> Second. >> All in favor? Can I get some clarification on that motion? >> This approval basically say that we're going to cover the entire cost. >> Do you want me to have Megan's got the funds to cover it? She has to That's not a problem. We can cover it, but we could maybe have her spend that money elsewhere if you guys authorize money back. Give us a new bid. You guys pay your share. >> An amended motion. I say and then the motion we have five weeks see if they can cover and then Megan can use her funds that defer. >> Okay. All in favor. >> Thank you for clarifying. >> He just said >> okay 618 with Shasta County Office of Education for the Learning Community for Native Success Program. I wanted to have a discussion on this um because there are some things in here that I didn't agree with.
Thank you. Thank you. We have time remaining if there were any members from the public. And I see you also, so you'll be next to follow. Hello, everyone. Um First, I'd like to make a suggestion that if you want more parents involved in these kind of meetings, uh it would be a good idea to offer some kind of child care because we have kids. Excuse me, do you mind introducing yourself? Yes, sorry. I'm Jackie. Jackie? Yes. Parent? Yes, parent uh two kids uh teachers. And I want to ask you to think about how much you know about AI and what it's really capable of before you even vote for this, which you already did. But, it's probably not too much. Um and I would try to um ask you to please reconsider because this is just being imposed on these kids and that's just not fair to them.
I think those are a couple of areas that need um some aggressive effort on our part and um you know, I think uh I think most of the the community feels that way, that right? That um everybody's a little fed up with some of this um you know, with some of the 40B stuff and then the other piece is really funding coming down from the state just isn't making it. You know, we are we living that right now. We're living it as are so many other communities. And um it's time for our tax dollars to come back to us and and in particular I think education is you know a huge piece of that puzzle because it's a huge piece of our budget as it should be and two and a half percent over and over and over again year after year it does not is it not enough to fund education and and our municipal needs it's just isn't no matter how well you manage your budget and so I do think that that's an area that we need to put some energy into in this coming year at least for me anyways Yeah to to your point Claudia um you know I think a while ago uh many years ago a number of uh select boards in the area would meet together um ready that might have happened even before you you started on the board Joe and you all I think you both I think I think a lot of it was being so I don't know 10 years ago the casinos there was a casino That was one thing yeah that sort of started the conversation they wanted to put a casino in Milford and the surrounding communities started meeting all together and Ashland even though we were not an a direct neighbor or we would be impacted because Hopkinton would be impacted Holliston would be impacted and even though it was in Milford and yeah we would meet once a quarter with select board members from Milford Holliston Hopkinton Medway Ashland maybe it was those five and and we kept going pretty well until COVID uh and then as we know once we couldn't meet in person and and things like that so if that's something people are interested in I'd actually be willing to take that initiative back on.
Creggsman to her right. WHAT A CATCH by Rebecca Creggsman. >> Almost like a little bucket catch and she does corral it for out number two. >> Creman comes in with the Willie Maze Hayes. She she comes in. I I don't know if you're old enough to get that reference, but she does make the the basket catch. I'll Willie Maze Hayes from major league fame and uh we get out number the really important out number two with runners on first and second. >> Abby Johnson will take outside 0 for two with a walk. >> Yeah, that's a big out. Leia French played well leading off. So one count here. Runners did not advance either. That one's up and in. So, it's two balls in those strikes. That was pitch 99. >> And she has had a battle all day long. Not not a lot of first pitch strikes for Nico.
Very minimal. We were in alignment with thinking that this is a good idea given everything. But, we didn't want to assume that you were in that space as well. Yeah, I think I'm not really sure how I feel about it. I mean, I guess it makes sense. Um, kind of streamline finance and Yeah. I guess that would be the part that Were you on that board when they were combined originally? Cuz we had gone Okay, so we had gone back and they were combined and then we found out that they were separated because of the new school. Which made sense at that time. Yeah. to focus on a lot of the facilities piece of it. Yes. Yeah. And Casey had talked a little bit about how the agendas and Steven had talked about how the agendas overlap. Did you have a sample Yeah, Casey dropped off >> Oh, do you have the sample agendas?
Well, this looking public speaker you want to recognize. >> Oh, I'm sorry. Yes. Let's go ahead and hear from the public. Well, >> um, so I I do want to bring to your attention just a area of caution. I'm always leerary of grants andus. Um especially when you're talking about that kind of money. Um I'm not questioning the program itself. Um uh the and I have to say that sometimes that um multi- whatever it's called um can actually involve a lot of social services. Um, so I I I would like to um I mean I didn't read the board packet or anything like that, but I would like to just express my concerns about some of this stuff um quickly making these decisions about taking on a grant or involving anou. Um because a lot of the times when the company might be an outside company taking on MLUS, their requirement when dispersing that money is to also tie you into some of the agreements that they personally have agreed on, which means that you would just be avoiding one situation where you didn't take the grant over here, but then took it from a third party.
Children deserve privacy in school and everywhere they go, but we're talking about school. And those $2 million could go to a much better use to support our teachers and our students in the classroom. So, I just ask you to please reconsider and nullify this contract. Thank you. Thank you. Well, thank you for this opportunity. My name is Kelly Marie Lavin. I'm an instructor at Chico State and I have a teaching credential. I taught high school previously and I'm also a parent. So, um I'm also really concerned about this. I want to say hear, hear to the the idea that the kids deserve privacy. I feel like as someone who grew up in a time where my image was not perpetually recorded as a young person, um I feel protected from a lot of the things that kids are not going to have that kind of privacy if we're not careful.
And um I mean certainly through the work that we do that I do as part of the MetroWest Regional Collaborative I could I could just reach out to those nine communities, right? If I select boards we want to get together, something to think about. And then if there's other boards or other organizations, strength in numbers. Yeah, I'd certainly like to see that. I think that it it's something that we could probably get some traction on with the number of overrides that are out there. And and then perhaps we could even get the school committee and and you know, their association and or their local members local local communities um to work on that with us as well. That it could be bigger than just the select board. Oh, yeah. I think that makes a lot of sense, Claudia. And and I'll I think that makes a lot of sense.
She's been behind a bunch of counts and and that that that puts a lot of pressure on a pitcher as well. >> Um she she certainly has battled hard >> as that one popped up to second. But dives and makes the catch. >> That one just knuckled to her. >> A really nice defensive play. I think she got a slow jump on that because she had to avoid the runner coming past her. Haley makes a huge play to get out of a potential jam. Um and and we we go into the bottom of the fifth now up three with a ton of confidence, which is huge. >> It is huge. Had a huge bottom of the fourth inning and you get a scoreless top of the fifth. So you're just you're riding those that energy from the last inning batting and pitching. Yeah, I I I think that if they can put a couple across here, um they could potentially put this thing away.
Oh, okay. And the idea was that the current board members, so you, Aaron, and um, Caroline would be on this new committee with Rob being an ex-officio member attending. Uh, does not create a quorum under Robert's Rules if he and no voting. Um, he just wouldn't have a vote. Okay. He'd be able to contribute, but not vote. Not vote, right. So, we didn't want to make a motion to approve that. Oh, and then the with draft two is the schedule it would have to follow because it has to be in the second week of the month. So, the meetings would be the agenda or the um, schedule we would adopt is draft two with that new committee meeting the second Tuesday of the month. Okay. That's fine. Oh, okay. Yeah. Yeah, I don't have a strong opinion either way, but it seems to make sense.
you know, instead of Skoey, it's this other program, but you're still signing up for the same strings that you opted out of in the beginning. So, that is my concern right here in this. I um I know it's expensive, but I do like the idea of you maintaining your autonomy and your power in that capacity. So, I just wanted to have a second to say that. And I'm sorry that I didn't read up on this particular thing before Thank you. >> Yeah. So, um, in looking into this, it's a new program that's not the >> correct. We've had education as long as I've been a district. Matter of fact, I believe in the Indian education coordinator district office when I first start here. We've had that for a long time. This is a new program. is a county program. Many counties have and all program.
