Um, and the way I see it is we are replacing an older system with a more current system that's going to, um, be more effective for our staff and hope hopefully provide them a safer environment for our community. Um, I think we could always go down the the path of, um, what if and what if it gets into the hands of the wrong people and I understand that and I hear that concern. Um, I also believe that we have the best interest of our community, um, in mind as parents, as grandparents and we wouldn't ask the community, um, to trust a system that we ourselves didn't feel comfortable with. Uh, so to answer your question, as a parent, um, I feel comfortable moving forward with this this choice knowing that we have the full capability, um, and to turn off any facial recognition or, rather, we have the capability to turn on facial recognition if if we chose to do that.
Michael has been, you know, sort of trying to push it along. And so I'm hoping it's within a month that it's going to be approved. Um Yeah. So, unfortunately. It's okay. >> Just I haven't attended any meetings, but I've been seeing the stuff go back and forth. I've been copied on it. So I'm hoping we very soon have a finalized open space and rec plan that can be submitted to the state. What's nice it does tie a lot to the comp plan. Mhm. Right. So, but yeah. Yeah. Just just from a a process perspective, so that open space and recreation plan I believe goes to it would first go to the select board and I believe the planning board for your review. And then you would need to sign letters of review before it would be submitted formally to the state. So, just that from a process perspective I just wanted to >> Yeah, so I would say maybe our first meeting in July.
But you, you know, you can't get a hit every time you're up and you know, Nico pops up. She's been hot all day. Just gets underneath one. Haley's not able to, you know, put her bat on the wall solid. She she also pops up. But still a 9 to6 lead here going into the sixth. So, I I think that the girls can settle down, play some good defense, and and see if they can put a couple across in the bottom of the six with Vendetti, Kyra, and Colette up. Um, there's still potential damage to be done. >> Yeah, New Stars will continue on the mound here. She has thrown 101 pitches and faced 29 batters through five innings. But coach Larry Sasso is going to give her give her a chance here and we'll see if she can finish off another clean inning. >> Yeah, the the the key here again, I've been saying this all game long, got to limit walks.
Thursday, tomorrow is Adam Sandler day, and Friday is blue and gold. Adam Sandler day is always a good one. It's the That's great. And so, Friday the high school has field day, which I think is new to this like new to this like year and it's like so exciting. And so, it's for all grades. We were thinking just seniors, but why not open it up to everyone. And so, after a shortened school day, everyone's going outside to the fields and you can go into the gym. There's like other activities in the gym if you want. And you just play games. There's going to be like cornhole, whiffle ball, frisbee, you name it, they're doing it outside. So, >> That's awesome. Um and there's also like barbecue like food and good stuff going on and like we rotate stations with the groups. So, I'm really excited for that.
>> But that was on the last item, the MTSS thing. >> Um it was >> Oh, well that was that was my mistake. I'm sorry. But just just to wrap this up to let you know that um they they do believe that by being white you are a white racist and and you're perpetuating white supremacy. Um, so that is fundamentally racist in my opinion. Um, and so if you you're sending your people to be trained in that way of thought and I just I say decline. >> Uh, we're not denying that there's curriculum they're promoting. >> Yes. >> What Richard Mar is saying >> I went to that training though. I attended it. >> I'm not denying what you're saying. What I'm saying is there's no avenue. There's no venue for that person to get in our classrooms. We don't have ethnic studies. Our title service coordinator is not a teacher.
And I think we stand before you or sit before you in good faith, um, saying that that's not our intention. Uh, we don't plan to do that. Um, we hear the community and we we want to do what the community, um, has asked us to do. Well, and in fact, this board voted unanimously to make sure that AI features were not used. And I think we all spent, um, considerable [clears throat] time digging deep into what that actually meant, um, on our on our own. Any? I I would say more, but you guys have um covered everything that that I would say as well. Um and I just want to reiterate and we have put in countless hours on this. Um and and we have a huge community to answer to. And so, you know, sadly I I we understand that we're not going to um make everyone happy, but I feel that what we have done is um made the the best decision um for our community.
I that I that's a good good target. Thank you. Roadway traffic safety committee. We had a meeting on the 12th and it was a very good meeting. A lot of great uh conversation and dialogue between the police and uh and the DPW and some of the the issues and concerns that residents have sending us requests and emails with stop signs sidewalks. Basically, you know, it's it's the same issues that we've been dealing with for the last three or four years. And you know, it's people are wanting to see the plan in motion and and and working to get those sidewalks and stuff done. I did find out and and I don't know Michael, I don't know if you made aware of it, but the state was planning on putting a new bridge in at at Court of the Road replacing that bridge. I guess there's some structural issues with that.
Right now, Nico has nine walks on the day. Um so if if we can if we can somehow limit those and and make the Westwood Wolverines swing the bat here. Um we got to make defensive plays behind them. They're not striking out a ton. They've only got three strikeouts, but the nine the nine walks have hurt us a little bit. So, if Nico can just throw strikes right now, we can hopefully get out of this with another score of >> she will get three, four, and fives. So, the heart of the lineup, Brook Benjer, Isabelle Walsh, and Eve Clinton. Benjer made a couple nice catches at second to prevent the clockers from getting on the board last inning. And she lines that one past Merloney on a slide. And it is a first pitch single. >> Believe it or not, Jacob, that's only the fifth hit of the day for Westwood.
And then next Friday, the 29th, um an AP chemist the AP chemistry class are going on a field trip to a chocolate factory in Connecticut to learn how to make chocolate. I'm really excited. I'm a part of that group and we get to we get to go and taste it, although we are learning about like the chemistry behind it and stuff like that, but tasting the chocolate. So, um without I I I got to interrupt for a minute. When I signed off on that, I was so excited. I thought I The first thing I said to my administrative assistant was, "Can I go on that? Like, can we add a number?" It seemed really cool. Oh, my gosh. Yeah, it's like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I hope I don't fall in the chocolate river, but Um so, June 4th is the senior trip to Six Flags, and June 8th and 9th is field day for the other schools, and we have high school students going there to help set up and run it for them.
>> Then I'm just saying that's why I would not approve this. I attended the training. It's worthless. Why would we sign on for it? It's in fact it's harmful. Those numbers will get worse if we continue to victimize these children and turn them into victims instead of empowering them. I want a program like what you're talking about where kids are empowered and love who they are. I appreciate that. Thank you. So I think the current motion on the floor is to table. >> Correct. >> I believe table it and see if I can get an amendment to have the option to opt out anytime. I think that's correct. >> And we had a second. Okay. So, let's go ahead and have a vote for the tableing of this topic. >> All in favor? >> I 619 renewal contract with Presence Learning Center for Speech and Language Services for Special Education for the 2627 school year.
Um the safest decision for our community in this case, which I know um not everybody agrees with that, but um Yeah. I I'll also say that at the um at the forum, uh the public was invited to come and voice its opinion. And um the opinion what what we're coming to tonight isn't just the board's opinion. These were These were thoughts that were voiced by the public at that at that meeting. And um for example, when um Vice President Olsen um motioned that the AWS um be used for storage, that was based upon conversations there where um where it was outlined that if data was stored at Chico Unified, there would be um perhaps eight or nine entry points for for a hacker to get to stored information. Um and we don't have as I'll just be clear. Um AWS has a more robust um ability to defend against hackers than than Chico Unified does.
You've talked about that for a while, right? Yeah, we we talked about that one for a while. It's been on the state's list for a while. We've had, you know, funding in place in case we needed to do like some temporary you know, transitional type of work. Uh But but yes, it's it's So, the one where Pleasant turns into Cordaville, right right by the Fish and Game and by Nick O'Hare's place, that bridge, right? Yeah, that's been talked about for years. >> So, I think probably the state plan is when it no longer [clears throat] is safe, then action happens. If we go by the creation of the High Street bridge and the House Street bridge that [clears throat] is what happened when when they became impassable for safety reasons, then [snorts] the state they were closed and the state stepped in. They've also been discussing this one as to what the best way is, right?
Um, and and that's what I said that it's been. Let let them swing the bat, right? You know, Lexi couldn't quite get her hand glove on that one. She made a diving attempt. Would have been a heck of a play if she could, but hits are going to happen. Uh, but limit the walks and let's just make plays behind her. >> Walsh takes ball one. She's been on base all three times. >> She has a single two walks. She's driven home a run and scored a run. That one is low. It's off the umpire. And that'll allow the runner Benjer to advance to second base. And it's a two- count here to Isabelle Walsh. >> Yeah. We got a running scoring position now uh for for Walsh who does have one hit today. >> Another big spot for Nico Star. That one's fouled away and it's a two ball, one strike count here.
And so, then we have finals and then graduation June 20th. And I just want to say thank you all for having me as your representative. I feel like I've learned a lot being with you guys, and I'm so honored to have experienced this, and I really hope to see you all again just around North Reading in the town. So, thank Absolutely. Yeah, Emily, thank you so much. You're going to be at the next meeting, right? >> I'm at June 3rd. YOU'RE NOT GETTING OFF THAT EASY. WE'RE NOT DONE WITH YOU. AT THAT MEETING, WE'LL CHANGE SPEECH SPEECH SO YOU CAN WELL, thank you so much. You have anything else? No, that's all. All right.
Second. >> All in favor? >> I 6.2. Oh, Golden State Pathway Program implementation grant for the 26 27 school year. very excited for our construction pathway. Um we, as you know, with the planning grant, the Golden State Pathways Planning Grant, uh that really we made tremendous pro progress in getting that up and going. Uh we've got a long ways to go. Uh we put in just recently for the uh Golden State implementation grant, which super excited because we got $44,000 uh just just a little over 404 um targeted for that pathway for the next three years uh to be spent over the next three years. So, super excited. Um I know I know Mr. Jones is as well. And uh we're just wrapping up a few more elements to it and be done. >> So we were awarded 404 for four years or we applied for 44 years.
Uh so, the fact that And this this was what the public felt. This that it was a safer choice than than having it stored locally. So, we we did listen to to the public. Um also, I wanted to comment that it's been brought up that staff uh would be recorded. And to the extent that they're outside their classroom, that's I think that's true. Um and I'll say that having taught school um as a high school teacher in Oroville um where also uh there were security cameras in place. Um there were times where it was imperative that uh we look at at camera images to see what actually transpired because when a fight breaks out or when there's um a student being bullied um or there's an allegation of a student being bullied, uh it's important to be able to look at the evidence to say does it does it look like what uh we're being told as a teacher or as an administrator is um verified by the video.
Cuz there's really no place to put a temporary bridge next to it. Yeah. That's what they were talking So, it's getting traffic around and what We're referring to straightening out the road a bit instead of having that that sharp turn. Just making the road a little bit more straight. And if they if that's what they plan on doing, then that second bridge or the the bridge that will not be able to they won't be able to put that other bridge in, which means so that that whole intersection will be shut down completely. Which means unfortunately, the neighborhoods in and around that area they'll be looking for, you know, additional traffic flow for that vehicle. My concern is the tractor trailer units because that is the truck route to Route 9 in Mass Pike. And they're going up Myrtle Street. So, you'll be seeing all these tractor trailers coming through neighborhoods.
>> Walsh wanted that one. Walsh wanted that one bad. That That was a big cut and she just missed it. >> Yeah, we haven't seen a lot of Like you said, a lot of hits from Westwood because they've walked so many times with the nine walks >> over the plate now. Come on. >> It seems like it's been a few innings since we saw a hit until the hit there from Benjer. >> Yeah, and it might be time to get Holly cashing up in the bullpen. We we saw her early. I haven't seen her taking any pitches since. I'm a little bit surprised by that. I I would think that this could be a a good time for her to start taking some warm-up pitches over there. Nico might be tiring a bit. It's been a long day. She's thrown a lot of pitches. Hasn't thrown really any all year long.
Any questions for Emily? All right. Excellent. Thank you, Emily. Congratulations again. Um I think it's three main points. All [snorts] right. Obviously, the budget. Budget passing one. The budget. Probably the boiler. Um I think the combination of committees and the fact that everyone can be aware. Yeah. Budget, boiler, and committees. >> Yeah. Everybody's in agreement with that? >> Yeah. Sounds good to me. We need another bait. What's the BBC? So, it's the same as Okay. Yeah. Uh upcoming events. >> Yep. All right. I'm going to overlap. I'm going to try and not say some of the ones Emily said, but um obviously um May 25th, there's no school for Memorial Day. Um we'll start with uh CLES Career Day um is on May 28th and they have a kindergarten spring concert at 5:00 p.m. Um June 2nd um third grade is going doing their end of the year party at Kids Kingdom.
>> It's No, it's it's what they granted us uh was $44,000 to be spent over over three years. >> Over three years. So we got likeund like 100,000. >> Yeah. >> So will that cover his salary roughly his expenses each year? Yes, it will cover his salary plus about say 20,000 at each site for instructional materials. >> So then he'll be covered for the next three years. >> That's correct. >> Congratulations. >> I make a motion to approve second. >> All in favor? 621 correspondence from Shassa County Office of Education regarding the district's second interim budget information. So then 622 proposal for sewage lift station liner repair at West Valley High School led by French sh >> questions. Pretty straightforward. >> Can we do an updated um >> coming next month >> projection? You mean what I >> Yeah. You wanted the facility master plan.
