>> So, do the classrooms still have a classroom set of books from long >> when we need those paper resources? The same answer as I gave you before, Mr. Russell. it it's going to be that we make sure that we have the paper resource if we need it in the classroom. The the types of um again you're going to see that we're still investing in hardcover novels. So there are key texts that we're going to need to have paper for but we we believe that we have the resources that we need in paper already and we'll be able to do well with the digital. >> We all know get them in a book. >> Yep. No. So true. I love that you are on to the SO stuff. I'm pretty sure that this lady appreciates that too. So, I've given you a little bit already about the curricular materials.
Well, we also see the idea that we've talked about it here before, the struggle with some kids who can't stay after school for clubs, for activities, to be involved. And we know the importance of having kids involved. We're going to put a lot of those club activities during that flex period as well, where those where transportation is no longer an issue for those kids. Again, if you want to be a part of that club, if you want to be involved, you got to have your grades first. So, you then you then you get those opportunities. We're also looking at what we what we're calling Fun Fridays, but what Fun Fridays would be is a micro course. Um allowing our teachers to show some things in a in a smaller setting to help build interest in some of those electives. So, for instance, let's say ceramics class.
So, the both runners do advance on the wild pitch. And again, that was something that was a potential problem yesterday. Uh really making the catchers work. Got to Got to make sure that they can get down and keep the ball in front of them, at least. >> Sullivan will attempt a bunt and foul it back. So, it's two balls and two strikes. And now that tying run is at second base in scoring position. So, Usariz, like uh several innings yesterday, will have to play with runners on. Yeah, and she was getting herself out of some jams early yesterday. Let's see if she can do the same thing today. >> And that one's popped up to shortstop, and Herder is there for it. And that's out number two. >> Yeah, just what the doctor ordered ordered right there. A nice little easy pop up. And now you've got the force play to first base.
I only have this. Do you want me to run through it? No, it's okay. Okay. Um Um our [clears throat] next meeting um we spent a good deal of time on textbook review and the um Cheshire High School staff presented textbook OSX. It's physics for high school and in accordance with board policy the that textbook will be made available for public viewing in the Cheshire Public Library, the Cheshire High School Library and the Office of Curriculum and Instruction at 29 Main Street from Thursday, May 21st through Thursday, June 4th and slated for approval and adoption at the Board of Ed meeting on Thursday, June 4th, 2026. I'll turn it over to you for your report on that meeting. >> Sure, I just wanted the board to know and we'll certainly talk about this after the two-week review period, but the textbook is actually an online book through OpenStax.
So to create our CHS ambassadors that we sent to all these elementary schools, we also leaned on the faculty to ask who they saw as leaders in their classroom but might not be the most extroverted and outgoing. And we talked to counselors to see who they felt were really important to include in this group. Um, when we talked to all of the students, we got interest and then we ran two days of training before we reached out to elementary schools to get a schedule for when we could go visit them. >> Perfect. >> And here's Dan Lee to talk about the rest. [snorts] I >> think I'm probably gonna have to adjust this a bit. Well, we'll make it work. Well, good evening. Um, I'm going to kind of highlight the next step in in the process that um we've already talked about unfolding. Once we uh established the uh the the group of students, which probably I think was probably about 35 or 40 students, we tapped into the resources of the peer health educator program.
Yes. Okay. And what's the plan with the 240 that you have right here? It's the 10 Yeah, it's between Highland and Doolittle or what? Yes, so it's divided up between the two. Highland has the north side of the playground that runs along the the campus. It's a very old playground. It's not ADA accessible. So well, it it technically meets the ADA threshold, but I would say the actual accessibility is another another question. So that would be potentially update the Highland playground. It is old. I think it's 20 years old. So. Okay. It's holding up well. Yes. Yes. Yeah, and I think For 20 years old. Yes. Yeah. And I think our facilities team has done a really great job of like trying to maintain things as as pieces uh you know have kind of broken off or um needed repair, but um we did have someone from Kompan, which is the playground construction firm that is doing the Norton and Barnum playgrounds that kind of looked at it and was like this is this is definitely time for a replacement.
Yeah. Maximiliano Martinez >> Paige Martinez >> [screaming] [cheering] >> No, I think this is Oh, Tim. It's not here. Just say it now for Dr. Perez. And now Dr. Perez. Perez Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Please welcome to the podium board member Dr. Jose Paula Magcalas who will now certify the class. Rebels, are you ready? >> [screaming] >> AH, DR. FIDEL, I DON'T THINK I SAID, "REBELS, ARE YOU READY?" >> [screaming] [cheering] >> AS A TRUSTEE FOR THE ANAHEIM UNION High School District it is my greatest honor and privilege to officially certify that these students present here today from the class of 2026 have all duly met the requirements of the state of California and have completed the prescribed course of study established by the Anaheim Union High School District.
Thank you for your leadership, your support, and your commitment to making schools better for all of us. And yeah, even you three over there on the end. You may not say much, but love you too. Now, I have the honor of introducing someone very special. Binland Shidik will serve as ASV line president for the upcoming school year. Bin Yep. Brin has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Our friendship started back in middle school through Vanguard's ASB and from the beginning I always felt protective over her. That only grew during years during our years together at AVHS. Brin is one of the most unapologetically herself people I have ever met. She's the definition of a leader. She leads with kindness, authenticity, and positivity. Every single day, she walks in ASB and proudly announces, "Hello, ASBers," and somehow manages to make everyone smile.
For two years, they have participated in Emerald's House Junior Volunteer Program, which offers students the opportunity to assist our community in a healthcare environment. They're both being presented with scholarships tonight for her service and commitment as a junior volunteer. We wish you the best in your studies and your journey in the healthcare field. And we believe a key element in fulfilling our mission is through scholarship investment in our communities. Uh this year we have invested over $110,000 in our local communities through the bank's footprint. Uh our first award winner is Noah Alon uh for his academic performance and values.

Roll call. Mr. Brzezniak. Yes. Mr. Canova. >> Yes. Ms. Estric-Barnes. >> Yes. Mr. Paris. >> Yes. Mr. Siano. Yes. Ms. Suarez. Abstain on minutes number two, but otherwise yes. Vice President Santiago. Yes. President Basford. Yes. Motion carries. That leads us to your portion. We're going We're rolling along here. >> and I will be pretty brief tonight. I just want to publicly thank I heard that, Mr. Siano. I want to publicly thank the board, um, the faculty and staff, and and those community members who came out and supported the, uh, annual superintendent scholarship dinner, which was held on May 8th. Um, a really big thank you. This entire Board of Education was there. And, um, Kim, saw you there.
>> [snorts] >> Hi. At this point in time, we are going to be moving into public comment. Just in case anyone is not aware, we have two public comment periods. One now on agenda items only, and one which happens later on any items of interest. The meeting will now be open to the public referencing agenda items. However, if your questions pertain to student or personnel items or negotiations, we ask that you see the superintendent after the meeting since we do not discuss these matters in public. We ask that you limit your comments to 3 minutes per person. Also, please when you step to the microphone, state your name and your address. Is anyone who wants to comment on agenda items tonight? Okay. Seeing none. Okay, we'll close um public comment now and we're going to move forward with the approval of Let me say, I'm sorry guys.

Congratulations. Bamos is bu I just have one thing left to say before I go back and sit down. One final thing left to say for our Aaho High School graduating class of 2026. How about them Red Raiders? How about >> Thank you, Dr. At this time, I am honored to officially present the graduating class of 2026.
We supported each other through difficult times. These friendships helped shape me into the person I am today. Looking back, I never imagined that I would one day be standing on this stage giving a speech as valedictorian. And if someone had told me years ago that this would happen, I probably would have laughed because it seemed impossible at the time. But life has a funny way of surprising us. Sometimes the people who struggle the most are also the people who learn how to rise the strongest. Senior year itself has felt like a journey for all of us. We experienced moments of stress, exhaustion, laughter, success, disappointments. We had days where we felt confident and days where we doubted ourselves. We made memories together that we will probably laugh about for years to come. Whether it was joking around with friends or struggling through assignments, trying to stay up in the early morning classes, or simply just surviving the chaos of our senior year.
Growth happens when you adapt, when you rebuild, and when you keep going anyway. And that is what I will remember most about you. Not just what you accomplished, but who you became in the process. So, as you leave Mountain View, continue building. Build lives that reflect your values. Build relationships that matter. Build communities that make people feel seen. And build futures that make you proud. On behalf of the entire Mountain View High School staff and administration, congratulations, Class of 2026. It is now time to present our graduates. As we begin announcing names, I ask that we honor each graduate by allowing their name to be heard clearly. Please celebrate with respectful applause so every student has their moment to shine. The students' names will be read by the Mountain View staff members selected by the senior class. We will begin with the top 10 graduates read by Ms.

Search? I'll abstain. Foyers? Yes. Foyers? Corey? Yes. Simpkins? Yes. And Frieda? Yes. All right. We've done dark communications, reports, and presentations. We've done enrollment reports. We've got the enrollment report. Yeah, and we didn't have our building presentation listed, and I apologize for that. However, it is Eagle View. I brought some friends tonight. Awesome. Let's get to the best part of the show. So, um beginning of the school year to tell you all the cool things we're doing, and so I'm always hesitant. I've always wanted to bring my friends along, but it's a school night. This is the last school night of the year, so we're cool with it. We want to highlight some of the work we're going to do a grade level parade at Eagle View.
I want to point out you have this in your board packet and for those that are watching online, the board docs does include the list of actual materials. I will you can't read it right now so I'm not going to bother having it up on the screen long but you will see HMH again is the recommended resource for middle school that is on the Indiana highquality u curricular materials list which we are required to adopt from um for um language arts adoptions at this point at the middle school level and again I already talked about some of the things that we're doing to pull back in in our in uh costs The other thing English at the high school I also talked about that again you have a link and you received it in your board materials. This has multiple departments on it. So you'll see if you look on the left there there are many pages.
I I don't know that I want to jump into the full ceramics class, but Barry Hovious may offer a Fun Friday micro lesson during that flex period for two or three weeks that a kid can come in and try ceramics, see if it's something they like, and then hopefully sign up. So, we can build some of that that student body actually being involved in those courses, those elective courses, and giving them a sample size to try. Mrs. Ebbing brought up the the software that we're looking at. Um it's called Enriching Students, um and it is designed directly for flex periods in high school. Um it's got some pretty amazing features. It will actually allow all of our staff to set up office hours during those flex periods. So, maybe for a math teacher, maybe their algebra office hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Their geometry, if they're teaching that, too, is Tuesday, Thursday.
Hopefully, you can get out of the inning uh because obviously losing the force all around uh on that wild pitch hurts, but the pop up is what you want in that situation. Let's see if she can get this last out. As Leah Calderon will bat eighth here and swing and miss at the first pitch. And it's nothing and one. I'd be interested to see if Kyra might try to get a little back pick on the over there at third base. Uh she would definitely give her a peek. That runner is taking a decent secondary lead over at third. The 01 is a called strike and it's nothing in two here. Situationally right now, I wouldn't mind her trying so you can so you can face this batter again to start the third inning. But let's see what happens. Comes the 02. That one's bounced in there.
And so, we talked a little bit about how would we get public comments on an online textbook. So, our practice is that this is the the textbook that is up for review is posted at the public library, at the library at Cheshire High School, and at at the curriculum office. So, for those of you who are wondering, it looks like this. There's a QR code where this can be accessed, and then next to all of these, there is a form that folks can fill out and make their comments. We'll also be communicating that out to families so that they have access as well and can provide any feedback that's necessary. Marlene, is there are there specific questions in that review notice that are being asked or is it just to look at the the book itself? >> It's open. >> Okay, got it. Open. We also talked about um an out-of-state overnight field trip for first robotics championship that was held in Houston, Texas, where the team finished 68th out of 75 teams and there were 597 teams there from across the world.
