So, not surprisingly, that number's getting smaller. Nevertheless, Brett left a huge imprint on this campus and all the people that knew him. He had a huge personality. He was my best friend and I'm honored to give this award to two very worthy students tonight. And so, first, um, I spoke with this young lady earlier today asking her what her plans were tonight, and she said she needed to come to the scholarship award ceremony, but she didn't know why, and I knew. Um, and you're probably going to see her more tonight, but um, Abby Herrell uh, introduced herself to me last year as a student of mine, but she refused to go unnoticed. Um, it wasn't long before she hacked into my social media account. Uh, printed out full-size pictures of my face and turned them into memes and hung them on my whiteboard. Those memes are still on my whiteboard.
So, CJAL, some of the players, they could they could probably carry it. A lot of strong kids. >> do, but like we always do, but they asked that was one thing. The other thing I have is I want to have like a little fireside chat with you right now about social media. >> Winston Churchill and the fireside chat. Um this the lights at school they're on late at night. Can you tell us the reason why they're on at night so we can just dispel the the myth? >> So, uh Mrs. Basford, thank you for bringing it to my attention. It was brought to my attention. I I am not on social media other than my my district accounts to, you know, to promote the positive stuff. I I try to stay away from it. Um but people do send me things, and there was a a complaint about the lights being on at school eight at I think 10:00 p.m.
Thank you, Ms. Iannelli. Seeing no other questions Oh, I just need one in that same vein. I just thought about it, but we came up in curriculum that it was the goal, and it was achieved for field trips for K through 5. Next year preschool and the middle school is on the agenda to add field trips back for those grades as well. So, lots more to come on the field trip category. Thanks, Mrs. Noel. Thank you. So, um we still need a roll call for approval for curriculum and instruction. On curriculum and instruction, Mr. DeMarti. Yes. Mr. Fisher. Yes. Ms. Iannelli. Yes. Mr. Conton. Yes. Mr. Masson. Yes. Mr. Pielman. Yes. Mr. Wilson. Yes. Ms. Futrell-Mowatt. Yes. Mrs. Noel. Yes. The motion carries. Thank you. We'll move on to finance and operations. Do I have a motion to approve finance and operations 10.1 all the way, let's see where we go to tonight, 10.27.
You believe [music] and you doubt. You're confused [music] and got it all figured out. Everything that you always wished oh could be yours, should be yours, would be [music] yours if they only knew. You trying to show the world, but no one knows your name yet. You don't know when and where and how you're [music] going to make it. You know you can if you get the chance. In your face and the door keeps slamming. [singing] And you're feeling more and [music] more frustrated, and you're getting all kind of impatient. You're waiting. We live and we learn to take one step [music] at a time. [singing] There's no need to rush. It's like learning to fly or falling [music] in love. It's going to happen. It's supposed to happen, and we find the reasons [music] why. One step at a time. Take one step at a time.

Success never comes from a place of comfort. It comes from pushing yourself past what you thought possible. It comes from having the courage to take even one step into an unknown direction. It's hard to imagine that after this it's all over. We will each go on to create lives outside of one another. But it is that fear of change that acts as the driving force for what we make of the rest of our lives. I'm not asking you to never feel fear again. I'm instead telling you you must push on even when that fear feels all consuming. Allow yourself to live in your fear. Bask in it. Let it make you uncomfortable till you're forced to adapt and grow. Because that is what living is all about. I can promise you that everything you've ever wanted sits on the other side of that fear. So take that leap.
You can also take your children to go celebrate if you feel free and it's still a little bit down the hallway just in a second. Thank you for coming. Thank you. >> [applause] >> Also shout out we have several Eagle View teachers here tonight to educate and support everybody too. So thank you. Thank you. >> [applause] >> Nobody wants to say it. You're all You're all lined up for that door. I see that. Thank you all for coming. So, when we initially did this, we asked each teacher to nominate one student and then from there we went on and we invited people and honestly I didn't expect that many of our students to come. So, I was pleasantly surprised. >> It's amazing. They love visitors. So, anytime you ever want to come do some math or painting or I have actually a couple of adorable photos that Dr.
>> Yes. >> Consistency has got to be >> Yeah. So Mr. Russell, to your point, the accountability model is going to be really important. And so they not only in our instructional minutes, they will have 25 minutes to teach uh science and social studies every day, but now also we're going to embed that content within the reading block as well. The reading and our reading block is also going to contain our writing block as well. So they're going to build that background knowledge in that block and then also then teaching it separately in that 25 minutes as well. And it's really important. So yeah, so we don't have a slide for this, but I just want to and and before we say thank you really big, um I want to make sure that you know that we did follow the the required protocol of posting that our materials were re are downstairs and they are available and today we had a community member come and look at them and that was very reassuring because it doesn't always happen.
Any discussion? All those in favor? 7-0. And any of you excuse me, I haven't had the privilege of being able to meet you in person, but I think I figured out who Mr. Lime is. >> [clears throat] [laughter] >> So, Mr. Lime, our newest um Jennings County High School SPED Teacher is here today. So, if you don't mind, Kyle, could you could you tell us who's with you today? >> Of course. Did you introduce? Hi, thank you for having my family and I. Um this is my wife, Chelsea. I'm Kyle. I don't know what to say to that. >> [clears throat] >> And I have our son, Maddox, here. That's great. And Kyle, we have a tradition here and when someone is joining the family, we ask if you'll go around the table. We like to congratulate you. So, you can start over here with with Mr.
Certainly a tactic that the the Clockers have used all year long. They do show bunt a lot when they are well ahead in the count. Uh Sanders does there and pulls back. Here comes the 2-1. That one's upstairs, so a three ball one strike count here and we'll see if she is told to just take a pitch here. Yeah, obviously this is the the ultimate hitter's count, 3-1. If she loves it, she's got to take a rip at it. Otherwise, take that walk. And she will look at strike two. So the count is full here to Sanders with Lexi Maloney on deck. Yeah, would have liked to see Manny take a hack at that one, but she may have gotten the take sign. You really don't know. Here comes the 3-2 and that one is ball four. As the ball gets to the backstop there, but she'll stay at first as Maloney comes to the dish.
This is a platform where students can go in and kind of click around and see different examples. In some cases, they can see a video and there's also text in there along with some sample problems, etc. So, Julie and Budhan certainly felt that this was valuable. Um, it also happens to be a free online resource and you can order books, and we discussed at length that curriculum that we would be looking at any students who had an IEP that necessitated them having a book, that we would look at any students who had a 504 plan perhaps for a visual issue that needed the book, and if a student wanted a hard copy of the book, which is unlikely, but for students who do, we would certainly have these books available to them in advance of the start of the semester. I had about five follow-up questions, and you answered them all in that one answer, so [laughter] thank you for that.
These communities are kind, they're curious, and they're eager to make an impact. So with that mission, we kind of were wondering, well, how are we going to accomplish this? How are we going to make sure because we we can explain it in ways that high schoolers would understand. That's that's easy for us because that's that's our lives. The hard part was how can we leave these strategies with the elementary students and what we arrived at was the way that we were going to leave them with these strategies is by reading short stories and you know sharing presentations that are kind of grounded in three main things themes. I'm going to take you through those themes. So our first one there's that transition again. Our our first one was share a smile. And this theme was really just centered around sharing kindness with your classmates. How can you acknowledge and make the people in your community feel welcome?
Um, and I think that this one, while an inconvenience, is not as much of a safety concern as the loading dock. So, just picked one. So, those are that's the year one projects and changes that were made. Um, and so the total is 5.879682. Did we talk about the bus depot project? Yeah, so the bus depot is that's not a year one project. I did add that to the year three. So, the bus depot is interesting because we originally had a project allocation of $125,000. You know, um, Datco, or I should say an affiliate of Datco, bought that Marshall building on, you know, where the Yeah, the East Coast Electrical, all of that is. Um, and between that and Sand Bank Road and our bus lot, there's a heavily wooded area um, that we got an easement for, so now it's owned by the town.
um with Jill even in Irvine one time. So um just thank you so much. And then welcome to Michaela, Taylor, and Brenlin. I have to say if I was staring at you, Taylor, I apologize. I looked up and I was like, she looks so familiar. And then I spotted your mom and I was like, that's it. So welcome. It'll be great next year. Um but we will miss the three of you. Well, four with Angelica. Um so thank you guys. All I can say is in 23 years there's been a lot of kids like you that have come through and every year I think there is no way the next group can top the group that we've had and yet somehow you walk in the door and you knock our socks off. And so I just want to say um keep going. I feel like my future is in good hands because I will age out here fairly soon.
Uh Aby's superpower is that she has this magical ability to bring you in and ask you to do things that would be fun. And she keeps saying, "Come on, no, no, no, we should do it. Come on, we should do this. It'd be fun. Let's do this." And it it it really was. She was able to convince me uh to perform alongside my bandmates last year with her uh singing vocals. by the way, staff infection is the name of our band. Uh, and then again this year and it's super fun when you get the opportunity to do that. And so I'm really honored and privileged to award the first threat civil scholarship to Abigail Harold. And our second recipient, um, equally deserving, and this is a young man who, uh, I've had as a student for two years, very bright, very athletic, really well spoken, uh, just a joy to teach.
the other night. So, of course, I looked into it. Spoke to the principal, and the building principal said, "Well, there we do have custodians working till 11:00, and that night they were working in that area where they needed lights." So, um it's not to say there haven't been times where perhaps lights have been left on. I'm sure that that has happened, but the other night there was work going on in the building, and that's why the lights were on. So, um I know it's very easy just to go on social media um and and and and write something, but it just creates more creates more drama than necessary, and you could easily call the school the next morning and say, "Hey, the lights were on last night." And we could say, "Oh, you know, we'll make sure that they're turned off." Oh, or there was work going on, and instead of getting people riled up about electric bills.
Do I have a motion? Mr. Conton. Second, Mr. Pielman. We have quite a lot on here tonight and there's many, many things. So, does anybody have any questions or want to make a comment in any of the finance and operations? Yes. Ms. Thank you. Um I just had a question in regards to 10.15 and if there's any member cabinet which has the answer to this. Um why how come this is going on the agenda to approve this item as far as, you know, replacing the phones in the in the district. I My understanding was that this was being paid for out of the curriculum bucket of of the budget. That was money that was already approved. Um so, if there's any clarification on on why this is being presented to us above the bid threshold, I'd appreciate that. So. Sure. I can comment and then I'll turn it over to Frederick if I'm missing anything.
