>> Yeah, that should be really unfortunate if she if she gets a walk here. 3-2, swinging a miss. Brought the heater upstairs and daughter to swing through it. A few swings and misses in that at-bat and there's one away. >> Yeah, that felt like a ball don't lie moment right there. She was able to come back and and get the strikeout that she deserved. Nico fights back in a in a tough spot and gets that swinging strikeout around the horn and we're ready for the next batter. That's her third strikeout today. She had only three strikeout yesterday in her five innings of work. As that one is grounded third base. Nice play there from Collette and the throw is accurate to Gazadian at first and there's two outs. >> Yeah, Lorelei flashing a little leather over there at third base. Gets the ball out of her glove really quickly.
Um but, some financial highlights, I just wanted to share an update on school meal pricing. Last year this time, we did actually increase our school meal pricing. Um we approved the Board of Ed approved meal price increases meal price increases, got it. Um for this year, for a 25 cent increase for elementary, middle school, and high school breakfast, and a 50 cent increase for elementary, middle, and high school lunch meals. We are not increasing the prices for next year. As you know, there was some there was legislation for free breakfast for all, as well as um no payments for reduced price meals for students. That's not a that reduced price is not a very large part of our population, but it's just something that's going into effect for next year. Um and another piece of the school I would say this isn't school meal pricing, but is related to our school uh school nutrition program, is we met with the town sustainability committee last night to talk about our composting.
There was nobody that I knew, nobody that I could talk to and I remember one person, Grace, who came up to me was just very friendly and very welcoming and I am still friends with her to this day. we are very close and it just sort of started that community and started that group of friends that I now rely on just as people that I know and people that I can talk to every day. And I think that's one of the reasons that like being aware of somebody's situation and being aware that you can go talk to them is so like important in building a community. So now I'm going to hand it back to Connor to move on to the next one. >> Great. Well, thank you very much. You both did a great job. I'm going to talk about the last theme last theme and get ready.
and the buses towards the back. >> Because it would still be I'm I'm just looking at the logistics of fencing further Yes. Right. >> Because we want the Yeah. Um and what I would say too is this came up in the planning and zoning committee is like, "Okay, are you going to use that entrance as an entrance or exit on Highland Avenue, like that parking lot?" And that is not the intention. It's still to use Sandburg. That still has a lot of traffic problems, but like it's not creating another means of egress for buses. Um cuz that would probably create I actually don't know if it'd be better or worse cuz you can make right turns, but that's not the plan. Like let's use Sandburg. Okay. Um I think that was it. So, I guess my my one thought on this is just uh no, a couple of thoughts.
And so for the 2025 fair, first place in showmanship and then a second place market hog. She was also part of this year's 4x 100 girls varsity relay team that broke the school record and is number one in the section this season. She has committed to uh Chico State for track and field in long jump and heptathlon. Congratulations. Sorry for not handing things off in order. Sorry about that. Uh so I also serve on the Marshall Family Foundation and uh that foundation was created by Wall-E and Susan Marshall to encourage a strong work ethic in young people and to help create opportunities for those willing to put forth an effort to excel. This year's recipient is someone who has demonstrated that work ethic by being involved with student government and link crew, taking three years of American Sign Language. He's a four-year swimmer and homecoming king. He's committed to attend American River College in the fall. And I'm excited to present this award for $3,000 scholarship from the Marshall Family Foundation to Dane Chamber.
Roll Any discussion? Roll call. Mr. Bronzino. Yes. Mr. Canova. >> Yes. Mr. Esto Florenz. Yes. Mr. Parris. >> Yes. Mr. Siano. Yes, abstaining on P50, my name only. Ms. Suarez. Yes, are we on B or C? We're on the EAB, yeah. Okay, then then yes. Vice President Santiago. >> Yes. President Baskerville. Yes. Thank you. It's okay, John. We're It's We're moving faster than we usually are. Can I have a motion for C personnel 1 through 54? Motion. Motion. >> Motion by Commissioner Brzeziak, second by Commissioner Santiago. Siano Siano. >> Siano. >> [clears throat] >> It's all right.
Yes, so we would use the phones uh extra phones hopefully um that would use uh network uh our network to to make calls to classrooms. So, then we can actually uh have better control over the sound it plays in every room and every large area. So, um it it would cost us less money to to do that than to again rewire every every every speaker and and uh that we have in every classroom and every large area. And I would just add to that just having seen and had different demos. Um obviously, the old system that we have is a Telecenter system which is very very outdated um and replacement parts aren't even available anymore. Uh Um, but this is very I would say we were impressed as a technology team when we looked at it as supervisors, when we looked at it as board tech, um, because it is not just going to be like the what traditionally now is a speaker up on the wall that you would see.
Do not let their limited view of you become your view of yourself. You know yourself better than anyone. You know what you are capable of, and even if you do not know yet, give yourself the chance to find out. My journey has taken me places I never expected. I have competed in adaptive golf tournaments around the world and around the country. I have represented the United States. I've played in the US Adaptive Opens. I became the 20 25 world champion of blind golf. I graduated from the University of Richmond with a degree in business administration, and now I am getting my master's at the University of Arizona, where I am a part of the adaptive golf team and studying sports recreation and leadership. Thank you. But, I do not say any of that to brag. I say it because when I was younger and losing my vision, I could not have pictured any of that.
I would um propose that we approve it with the um addition that we will be getting as-builts. That sounds like a motion to me. Yeah, I'll make that motion. I'm sorry, any other discussion first and then any other questions, discussion? All right. Adam has a motion, do we have a second? All right. Roll call, please. Lawyer? Yes. Simkin? Yes. Reading? Yes. Corey? Yes. Search? Yes. Schumacher? Yes. Myer? Yes. All right. Next item is D, approval of a resolution to appoint MISBIC employee benefits and/or property and casualty board members. Yeah, this is a yearly time where you um appoint who will be sitting on the board for the property casualty and for the health insurance for our our employee insurance. Uh the recommendation is that you appoint the superintendent, Dr. Amanda Ganie, as the representative for the board.
Um, this would result in a change for the first day of students. They would be in attendance now on Wednesday, August 5th. That's the official first day of school for students. Um, these days would be used for staff professional development, all staff meetings, and classroom preparation for the school year. We know how valuable that time is for our teachers. Historically, we've used one waiver day to begin each semester. And this year, we will actually just use two to start, recommend using two to start the first semester and not starting the second semester with a waiver day. We will still have a built-in teacher work day before the second semester, but we will not use a waiver day. And so for 2026, both waiver days will be used to to start the school year beginning beginning and none in the second semester. This does maintain um 178 student instructional days and due to the performance waiver that we did receive notice we received again this year.
Any discussion? All those in favor? Seven uh Thank you. Anything else? Yes. Hearing nothing else to come before the board, we'll entertain a motion to adjourn. Motion by Chelsea, do I have a second? Second by Pat. All those in favor? Seven uh Meeting adjourned. >> Mhm.
Fires over to Gazadian and we get the second out of the inning. So, Krzinski is retired at the top of the lineup and it's back to Shayla Tosches. Who is 0 for 1. She struck out her first time up. Comes the first pitch. That was a early swing. Flail at it and it's nothing in one. Again, getting ahead is the key, right? Getting ahead of these batters is going to be critical for Nico's success. She's ahead 0 and 1 here. And that one just missed upstairs. One ball, one strike. Yeah, a little high little high there by Nico. Um one and one count here. To Who's this? The number two batter? Number two batter, Shayla Tosches. Here comes the 1-1. That's strike. Little bit of a late call there. Again, uh I think he just had to wait to see if it landed heads or tails and that's why it took him so long.
You know, we have composting happening at Chapman, at Doolittle, and at Dodd. Um and so next year we are just thinking of ways that we can potentially sustain or increase the amount of composting that we're doing. We've had some challenges this year just with who is willing to accept all components of our composting program, including trays that are compostable but have to be driven to Massachusetts because Blue Earth in Southington doesn't accept them. Um and so Erica, our director of food service, has been really thoughtful about ways to increase uh composting, but at the very least we'd like to just sustain our program. We currently have about $16,000 remaining in um an appropriate inappropriate funds from the town to do so. So, she's been very uh thoughtful in in the way that she's been running the program and engaging our students, um and hopeful that we can continue that.
I still have the same exact transition. Um, our last theme was be involved. So, like our mission, we want to create kind, curious communities that are eager to make an impact. With this theme, we were really focused on trying to get students to start thinking about their school as their school. It's and not just a school that is theirs, but it's everybody's. And kind of this idea of, you know, whatever school we're in. So, say we're in Highland. We were trying to tell them that like listen, Highland is your school. And in in saying that, it's all your responsibilities to try and make the school as best as you can do that or make the school as strong as of a community as you can. And a great way to do that, at least what we found at the high school, is by getting involved in things and by sharing your ideas.
Uh so, for something in like Doolittle, I think Dodd might have stage renovations as well. Mhm. Um I totally understood the point you made about say the Dodd stage and it has like the uh the splinters are like the splinters are almost like weapons coming off of there. >> Yes. Um [snorts] so, I completely understand that, but I just um without getting into the details right now, I just want to highlight that for the council that uh I guess my question is you mentioned that, but then are the drapery, the lights, the sound system I understand the idea of going in and getting one project done all at once, but if they're not necessary when the council's concerned about the total capital budget spend, >> just to uh give them more uh details if they ask about it. They may not ask, but I want to make sure that you're prepared for that because are the other items here, say for the Dodd stage, in your opinion, are they necessary safety issues for this year?
A team of two, Marley Fick and Macy Gibson in the area of welding local competition held at Victor Valley College. the first place team and I'll read the names and make it very difficult for the those handing out awards to get them there. But um this team um continues a a trend of excellence. I don't know that any other team has come close. They're just dominant. They are from the Apple Valley High School welding program. Damian Adams, Jose Alcala, Aiden Black, Drake Carlson, Justin Enos, Brandon Fischer, William Fudge, William Langley, Riley Latrace, Kingston Monson, Jackson Perry, and Addison Wright. There's also an individual welding competition. As that team makes their way up, there's an individual competition and so chosen from all the students who go um for their individual skill. We also had a first place winner for the whole competition and that was also Drake Carlson.
All right, it's my turn now. Good evening. My name is Nicole Wed representing the Ethan McCoy Memorial Scholarship Committee. This scholarship serves to support B County High School graduates pursuing a career in nursing. In the last four years, $29,000 in scholarships have been awarded, and this year, another 16,000 will be awarded to 10 students from five high schools. Much of these funds come from local donations in honor of Ethan and the McCoy family of Durham. Ethan's life was a short 10 years, but it was full of faith, family, friends, and an entrepreneurial spirit that included a nursery business selling succulents and homemade bird prices. Tonight, we are pleased to award three PD students with scholarships. The first recipient wants to be a labor and delivery nurse. She wrote, "As a nurse, you must show compassion to everyone you assist, have outstanding communication skills, adapt quickly because anything can happen, and remain emotionally stable throughout the whole process.
Any any discussion? Roll call, please. Mr. Brzeziak. Yes. Mr. Canova. Yes. >> Ms. Esterly-Barnes. >> Yes. Mr. Parris. >> Yes. Mr. Siano. Yes, noting my previous abstention. Ms. Suarez. Abstain on C1 and C50 for my name only. Vice President Santiago. Yes, abstain on P30. President Baskerville. >> Yes. Motions carry. Okay, so looking for a motion to approve under finance facilities D1 through Sorry, got to get the screen up. D1 through 12. Motion. Motion by Commissioner Brzeziak. Second. Second by Commissioner Canova. Discussion. >> Yes, I Oh, sorry. Go ahead. I'd like I'd like to make a motion to uh pull item number five for some executive session discussion. So, I'm ask for changes and then the motion. Amend the motion to pull five. Amending the motion to approving the one through 11 Right. with the exception of item five to go to executive session discussion. Motion.
It's actually, um, a monitor that's going to go above every active panel in the district for all the classrooms that will give you a visual signal as well as being able to hear with the speakers. So, it really does enhance and you'll have more from a PA system than we've ever had before. Um, some of the different features that can go up there would be like, you know, if there's fire drill, if it was truly a lockdown. So, you'll have a sound, you'll have a visual that everybody can see and alert when there is going to be a visual. Um, and I feel like there's one other thing. Oh, and then in large group areas, same thing. So, in a gym, you have the amplification speakers so that you'll actually be able to hear it. Um, and different features like that. Hallways and the ability to zone different, um, different messages or announcements.
