Any other >> any other questions? >> Do I have a motion? >> No motion. >> This is this is first reading. I'm sorry. First reading. >> Okay, that's the last of our action items. Uh on the back, the announcements we have May 31st is the Sen Grove High School graduation at the Race Gilman Stadium. Hopefully the rain will not make an appearance. June 18th is the public works session at 4 pm at the ITC learning hub. June 18th is the executive session immediately following the public work session. And June 18th is the regular board meeting which is here. The other two are over at the ITC. Any comments? Mrs. Counts? >> I think none for me. >> Okay. Um Mrs. Reiko, do we are all the books digitized now? >> No, not yet. >> Yeah, the second half has already since been sent, right? Yeah.
They really need to win this game by five. >> As that one by Herder is popped up down the right field line and is foul. Seemed like it curved there at the last moment, but it luckily was not caught. She'll get another opportunity. Yeah, as I was saying Jacob, the the goal today is to win this game by five. You can only get points for five runs or more. Um, that's the maximum. Any more than that doesn't matter. So, if they win by five or they win by 15, it doesn't make a difference. But, right now the Clockers do have that five-run lead, and they need to do that against a team that doesn't have a really strong strength of schedule to hopefully not hurt their power ranking. They do lead by five now, looking to score another here. Tsutsui to Herder. Swing and a miss.
And so we'll we'll walk through all of that, but you know, I'm I'm feeling a lot better about where that is at $15,000. And you know now that you've increased the snow removal budget, we're going to have a mild winter next year, right? I would love [laughter] that. Thank you. Mr. White. Thank you. How often do we get the How often do you know how often the actuary updates our uh the pension guidance that we follow? Is it annual or bi- every 2 years? I know that the town does an annual like pension report, so I'll I'll need to look into it. I I just don't have it pulled up, but Okay. I can look that up. And basically what we do is they come up with their guidance, generally we go along with it. Pension retirement board, whoever they provide the guidance, council adopts it, we go along with it.
in one of the classrooms that we went to, I think it was at Highland, they said that like they've sat on like the buddy bench at the playground if they didn't have anyone to play with. And I feel like them like knowing that there are like resources for them to go to and like now they have all these like tools in the back of their pocket. So if they ever see anyone sitting there, they know what to do. So yeah, >> um they all had great takeaways that I agree with. But not only did the takeaways like this experience um impact the students, it impacted us too. Um we learned so like how to present in front of elementary kids who I've never really presented in front of before. So this is my first time. But I learned as we went to every single school how they truly do look up to you and um you're such a ro role model to them and that um every like you can just like go like on the flow and just they don't really know where you're going with it.
Yeah, I think the message is pretty loud and clear though. Um that I think we stuck with that last time and and obviously it wasn't effective and so their conversations are going to have to stand around like what do we move forward? Are the Have you had those conversations with council members on like I don't really care who it is? Informally. Okay. I think that the message has been received for sure. Okay. How many was it last year? Do you happen to recall? There was a bunch but The thing is the one thing that I feel like I've noticed and I haven't Was it 10? It was. Yeah, it was something very similar but yeah, it was it was a lot. I haven't I haven't looked at it compared year on year but I definitely feel like there just have been more referendum items cuz I think everything is just more expensive.

Can I get a motion to go into close session? >> So move. >> Second. >> We will be taking a vote via roll call. Mrs. Longore I. >> Mrs. Tucker I. >> Ms. Apara >> I. >> Mrs. Buchanan I. and we will go into close at 6:14 and be back no sooner than 7:30 PM.
The purpose of this event was twofold. To serve as a social gathering for dentists and their staff, but more importantly to raise funds for scholarships like the ones we're giving out tonight. After his untimely passing in 1993, the Chico Area dentist established an endowment in his name to continue his legacy of supporting the higher education of our local high school graduating students who are interested in and demonstrate pursuing a career in dentistry. That endowment supported by the dentists of Chico has grown over the years and this year we are poised to award nearly $30,000 in dental scholarships to these deserving students. This truly is a whole dental community collaboration. Chances are that all of your local dentists has contributed funds to these scholarships. The applicants interested in pursuing a career in dentistry were outstanding and very numerous this year. The committee was extremely impressed with all of these young people.
So, congratulations, and thank you. Um happy Memorial Day. Thank you to the families of people who made the ultimate sacrifice for us to live as a free country, as well as our current military and armed forces. And that's all I have. Thank you. Good night. Thank you, Commissioner Canova. Commissioner Paris. Thank you, President Basford. Uh condolences to the Gibson, Shideler, and DeJaio families. Uh thank you to Kim and Power of One for your uh back-to-school outreach and helping take care of some of our most needful families and students. Greatly appreciated. Um just a commercial to sign up for our integrated summer enrichment experience. It's getting close to full. Uh for those of you who don't know what that is, it's for students that are in grades 1 through 8, and it's an academic enrichment in art, math, science, music technology, band, strings, and theater. It runs from July 6th through the 30th.
So, it's a it's a big win for the community. It's a big win for the district to generate alternative revenue sources, and it simply puts solar array structures in our parking lots, which I can tell you our facilities department was super thrilled about. So, um that's a you know, that's a triple threat for us. Thank you, Mr. Yates. Thank you for um that explanation. So, seeing no more questions or comments, I need a roll call now, Mr. Yates, to approve finance items 10.1 through 10.27. Roll call, please. Roll call on finance and operations, Mr. DeMarcey. Yes. Mr. Fisher. Yes. Ms. Ainelli. Yes. Mr. Compton. Yes. Mr. Masson. Yes. Mr. Kielman. Yes. Mr. Wilson. Yes. Ms. Buchermoeit. Yes. Mrs. Knoll. Yes. The motion carries. Thank you. We're going to move on to personnel now. I would like to a motion to approve items 11.1 through 11.11 personnel items.
If we've been to the moon, we can certainly create a sports program for them, right? I walk out of that meeting, and this is honest-to-God the honest truth, I walk out of that meeting I get a phone call from a gentleman that says, "My son is going blind. Can you help me create a blind golf team?" And I said, "No, I cannot. But I can start an adaptive golf team because then I can help cerebral palsy people, amputees, people that don't push wheelchairs, and blind people, right? Tyler Cashman is here because of ASDB. He's at Arizona because of ASDB, and I don't think you knew that. So, when you volunteered, it was like, "Wow, that's a big circle coming back around." It's amazing. So, my friends, I don't want to take too much time. I know there's celebrations to be had, right? What I'm going to tell the graduates is that I I'm going to treat you like you're my own athletes, right?
And we are working on the um hall of fame situation for alumni. Um Mr. Alexander, >> no comments. >> Mr. Russell, I would like to acknowledge Mrs. Sierra Hunter before she leaves this evening. She's um not a new us, but she is joining the elementary team as the new assistant principal at Pleasant Grove Elementary. So, I did want to make sure that she was here. >> You were at you were at North, right? >> Yes, >> you were at North. Yeah, >> are you doing a tour of the buildings? >> We'll see what we could do. Anyway, well, welcome. Good good luck in your new position on that one. >> So, as I see nothing else, meeting Jim >> and we have signing to do. Oh, well, >> well, he'd like to talk to
She was out in front of the off-speed, and that is out number one. That nifty little pitch there. She got her fooled, and and and did get She did get Quinn reaching way ahead of that one on the off-speed pitch. And that's that's a tough thing to do. That's a good pitch there. It's Maddie Sanders will line one into right field for a base hit, just out of the reach of Sullivan. Kazadi and scores from third in a first-pitch RBI single from Maddie Sanders. >> Yeah, love to see that out of Maddie. She hasn't had a whole lot of bats this year. I believe that's what, hit number four or five for her on the season. Yeah, number three. Hit number three. Hit number three for Maddie in the season, knocks in an RBI, getting her confidence up if in case she's getting called up for the postseason play.
Yes. And then we fund accordingly, which could typically go up, but it could go down, it could go in any direction I suppose, depending on the market and how whether it's up or down. Yeah. Uh and what I will say is like our pension is not uh fully funded. I'm not sure at what percentage it is, and I'm talking about like town um you know, cuz most of our our staff is on TRB. Um so our you know, we're talking about like non-certified staff that would be part of the town pension system. TRB being state teachers pension, just so people yeah. Okay. Yes. Um so for people that are on our pension that are not certified, not on the teachers pension system, um, it's not a fully funded plan. So, you know, like us choosing to dip into that as a as a source is not something we can do.
So as long as like you um you like take your um ideas and your experiences, they truly stick on to them. Uh, my biggest takeaway honestly was going off of Mave was learning how to present really well. At first when I first found out that it was we're presenting to elementary schoolers, I was a little bit nervous. I'm like, "Oh, they're going to make fun of me if I mess up or something." But then I really got with like the other high schoolers and we went over the presentation and I'm like, "Oh, this actually might flow together." And then when we started putting our own uh personal uh thoughts to it, it just it was beautiful. It went all together and I felt a lot more comfortable presenting as we went to more schools going through the like the journey of this building communities idea.
>> Yeah, and the need is greater too. >> And the yeah, stuff gets older. >> Yeah. Um and so I I'm not convinced that I believe that reason it is entirely possible that, you know, five reasonable council members look at it and say, "We really really do want to send all this out." And that's that's And And so it's not to say that we shouldn't do it, but I think it's I feel like if we the board are asking for it, it's incumbent on us to make a better case for it. >> Right. That's >> But I do I am sensitive to the public's information overload, too. And And 10 referendums is an overload. >> Oh, totally, but we don't control that. That's what the council We're just saying if we >> should influence that. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. And if we only limit it to one, I think that's I think that's pretty good.
Go ahead and take role. Um, Amanda Buchanan, I'm here. Maria Akara, >> I'm here. >> Anita Tucker, here. >> Mr. Raleigh is not here. Renee Longshore here. All right. Uh, Anita, can you lead us in the pledge of allegiance, please? >> Put your right hand over your heart. Ready? Again. I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you. >> At this time, we would like to pause in a moment of silence to remember retired ABUSD family member George Filkins. All right. The clerk will read out any action taken in close session. In close session, the board of trustees took action in support of the following recommendations from the superintendent conference on litigation government code section 54954.4 4 subsection D and 54956.95 N Garrett versus AB Avusd.
I'm very excited to hopefully welcome them as colleagues to our profession one day. They not only have stated that they're interested in becoming becoming dentists, but they've supported this by spending hours volunteering, shadowing, learning in all local dental offices, including our own. The future is bright with these driven, kind, and communityminded students. So, the first recipient of the balon dental committee scholarship is Grayson Christie. Advocate office for many hours and maintain strong academics and activities. The second recipient is Lucas Jimenez. Academics and shadowing a local dentist was also very impressive. The third recipient is Paige Kennedy, who spent over 100 hours of her own time shadowing and learning in our local dental offices. The fourth recipient is Kayla Mendoza Montes De Osa. She maintains an impressive academic record in school while learning a new language. Oh, this is impressive. And has demonstrated her commitment to become an orthodontist.
It's held at Woodrow Wilson Middle School, and it's between the hours 8:30 and 12:30. Uh it's a wonderful experience that you can provide your child uh to get some additional training and education in some very interesting areas. Um just a reminder about the Memorial Parade. It is on May 20th at 9:00 a.m. Uh the stepping off point is St. Andrews Boulevard where it intersects Clifton Avenue. It'll then go down Clifton Avenue to City Hall where there will be a uh Memorial uh Day service. That's all I have, President Basford. Thank you, Commissioner Paris. Commissioner Estrict Bonds. Thank you. Um again, condolences to the Gibson, Scheideman, and DeJean family. Um and I also want to recognize Power of One. I got a little choked up while you were speaking, too, and just I, you know, started a career in foster care and treatment homes specific to IDD and, you know, children just out of home placements, and so that really touched me.
Do I have a motion? Ms. Buchermoeit, and seconded, Mr. Wilson. Thank you. Does anybody have questions or comments on any of the personnel items? You do? I do, because she's here tonight um as well as some other friends from MES, but I want to congratulate Ms. Tracy Bowles on her I guess reassignment to supervisor curriculum position. Obviously, we know MES is near and dear to my heart and I've worked with Tracy in the PTA capacity and as a parent and she took over for Mr. Feldman, which was big shoes to fill and you did a great job and we're going to miss you for sure, but we know you're not going far. So, congratulations and we're excited for what comes next. Mrs. Noel, if I may. Yes, go right ahead. >> On the agenda tonight is Leah Perlmutter. She will be transferring to payroll specialist role in my office.
There are two things I need you to do once you walk out these doors. You must seek opportunities without fear of failure, because failure's coming. It's coming and it's it's going to come hard, but it's okay, cuz that's part of the journey and you'll learn from that. Seek those opportunities. They might be here in Tucson, they might be in Uganda, they might be who knows where they are. Seek them and don't worry about them and make sure that you get the team that you already had plus more to help you along the way. Right? Then then you must also provide opportunities for others. Right? So, I'm going to say something that I hope you guys take to heart. If you can't see, I don't care. Make sure you're seen. Make sure you're seen. If you can't hear, if you can't hear, make sure your voices are heard and you are listened to.
