Those are all approved. We have not done anything with numbers 1 6 8 9 10 12 13 14 18 19 25 and 26 as of right now. >> Okay. I I guess I don't remember having to approve each one before having to talk about each one. Um so >> if you'd like I can make a motion to approve all of the ones you pulled so you can discuss them all at once. >> Um well since I pulled this could I make a motion to amend Uh consent agenda item number one. Um when we make a motion to consider an agenda item and second it, we have a discussion. Any secondary motions that are made and seconded must be voted on before any vote is taken on the original motion. This is general parliamentary procedure. We are a body meant to function as a body. Each representative given equal standing on this dis.
A nice call off there from Sanders. And that is out number one. Two outs away from a win. >> You know, that's a really good play by Maddie Sanders taking charge out there in center field. That's her job to take charge. She calls off Couch who's in right field. The both of them are going for it, but Maddie does do her job and is absolutely her ball. She makes a nice catch to make the first out. Here comes the nine hole hitter, Derry. Lexi Derry picks the ball in the dirt. She is 0 for 1 >> [music] >> with a strikeout so far. So, the top of the lineup in Krzinski on deck. Bases empty, one away here. As Usaurus will deliver the 1-0. That's a line drive into right or left center field. That's down for a base hit in front of Sanders. Wyatt turned around first, but [screaming] a wise decision by Derry to head back.
Um, so I feel that we've we've really stuck with that idea and I'm I'm happy that we still have those DOD teachers going in. It allows um the middle school to be able to do their scheduling changes that they had um brought to curriculum to us and you know, I I think there's some good things about this budget. It's not a it's not all doom and gloom. We did a we did a good job. So, I'm happy to support it. Uh so, with that, if there are no more questions, let's call the vote. Sure. Um it was moved that the Cheshire Board of Education approves an operating budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 of 99 million 849,080 dollars as appropriated by the Town Council, representing a reduction of 300,000 from the Board of Education's recommended budget. And it was seconded by So, all those in favor?
None should be dismissed or silenced. Two secondary motions were made and seconded on two separate agenda items on April 2nd. I called for a vote and was told no by the president of this board. I move that we amend the April 2nd minutes to include both secondary motions and their seconds as well as our president's decision to not facilitate a vote on either of these secondary motions. according to general general parliamentary procedure. >> Trusty Longore, you're out of order. We still don't even have a second. We're still trying to work through this. I understand you've got speeches, but we can't have discussion without this item having a motion and a second. >> Okay. I move that we amend the minutes of April 2nd. >> And I'll go ahead and second. >> Okay. And what is your specific amendment that you would like to make? I move that we amend the April 2nd minutes to include both secondary motions and their seconds as well as our president's decision to not facilitate a vote on either of those secondary motions according to general parliamentary procedure.
Yeah, Manning does a good job getting over to that ball. That would That definitely found a gap. There was no chance they were going to catch it, but Manning does play it really well, gets it in, holds holds the runner to first base. And Krzinski will bat 0 for 1 with a walk at the top of the lineup. Runner on first here. That one upstairs. We'll see if they try to test Dickinson behind the plate. So, we we talked about Ella Dickinson into catch. I failed to mention that that moved Kyra over to first cuz Caroline was catching. She moved over to first base. So, that's another defensive change that was made. As Kazadian not on the field, that's a ball that gets by Dickinson and down to second base goes Derry easily. So, a runner in a scoring position here, but with that 14-run lead, one run will not prevent a mercy here.
It's unanimous. Thank you very much. And thanks everyone for all the hard work and really drilling down in and looking at what was going on with the budget this year. Yeah. So, we're still under finance. Wow. Um Miss Taylor, can you um go over the medical benefits report? Briefly. Yes, I can be so, so brief because it's great news. >> [laughter] >> So, um I will say that our expenditures for April for medical benefits, we had one 1,507,333 dollars in claims, um, which was up from last month, but overall our, um, claims reserve right now is at 2.17, uh, months in reserve, which is significantly up from last year we were at 1.7 in April of 2025. We do have less in claims than, um, last month where we had 2.31 months in claims, uh, claim reserves, but we also had our lowest month of claims in March 2026.
All right, let's call for the vote. Mrs. Longore, item one, I and that's on the amendment. So then Mrs. Tucker >> I, >> Miss Apara, >> hi. >> Uh, and Miss Buchanan, I vote no because we do not vote on a secondary motion. Um, how would that work on amending the notes then? >> I just want to make sure I'm clear. I didn't catch the item number. That's the amendment. I don't know. It was an overall. >> Okay. >> Could you be more specific >> like which which item I I don't >> Yes. So they were the two resolutions. I believe they were number one. Now I'll have to go back and check. >> Okay. Um so currently as it reads um it's I1 it says adopt resolution 2526-15 consideration and possible action concerning March 6 and March 8, 2026 demands to cure or correct board action on March 5, 2026.
Yeah, they they they do need to play the few. Um so, right now they're up 14. So, they're going to have to play three. That one is off the glove of Dickinson. So, Derry will get down to third base. It's now a 3-0 count here to the lead-off Krzinski. Now, what what are the things that Ella does uh bring as a strength behind the plate is she is a very good uh blocker. So, if she can keep the ball in front of her, they should be able to save this runner from scoring. Comes a 3-0. That one popped up. So, Krzizaulski had the green light there on the 3-0, and it's 3 and 1. It'd be nice to see if Nico can get another strikeout here. Yeah, three strikeouts today. That one is fouled away. So, she battles back from 3-0. It's [music] now 3 and 2.
So, um, we're still in a really good position at 2.17. Um, and I'm just looking here because I'm toggling between these two tabs. Um, the claims totaled there was a 22% decrease in claims, um, from in March 2025 to 2026. Um, there was also a sizable increase to our stop-loss reimbursement compared to the prior month. So, we got we have 362,000 in stop-loss reimbursements and that's up from 292,000 in stop-loss. Um, and you know, this is the part of the year where we start seeing more of those, um, claims come in through June 30th. Um, so we're in a strong position with our medical benefits fund. Um, we did have a good month of claims and I will stop there.
Agenda item J1 resolution number 2526-9 on a motion by Mrs. Amanda Buchanan. Seconded by Mr. Rick Raleigh. Vote 31. Amanda Buchanan. I Anita Tucker. No. Maria Aquara. I. Renee Longshore. Did not vote. Rick Raleigh. I adopted resolution 2526-15 consideration and possible action concerning March 6 and March 8, 2026. Demands to cure or correct board action on March 5, 2026. Agenda item J1 resolution number 2526-09. Then underneath that it says, "Trusty Longshore shared a comment during discussion of item I1, adoption, adopt resolution 2526-15, consideration and possible action concerning March 6 and March 8, 2026 demands to cure and correct board action on March 5, 2026, agenda item J1, resolution number 25260. While the above motion and second was on the table for discussion, Trusty Longore made a motion to table the item. Trusty Tucker seconded the motion. The motion to table died due to inaction as the majority of the board took action on the original motion to adopt resolution 2526-15 consideration and possible action concerning March 6 and March 8, 2026.
Yeah, Nico has had a battle a couple times, but absolutely a better performance today than yesterday, especially being around the plate. Limited her walks. So, it'd be great to see if she can get out of this one with a complete game. As that one will be ball four, so Krzizaulski will walk for the second time. But, yesterday she did pitch five full innings and was over 100 pitches. Today, only 64 pitches here with one away in the fifth. Yeah, a completely different outing for her today. As you just saw, Elefante gets a really nice stop there on that ball that was rolling to keep the runner from advancing to third. Shayla Tuskus will take a strike. One for two, has struck out. Now on the mound. After starting in left. >> I'm interested to see what the what the play is here if they try to steal second base.
Any questions for Ms. Taylor? >> [cough] >> Then you may go on to the audit report. Great. Um, so the audit report, this is pretty quick, um, but we, the town council audit committee met on April 21st and accepted the fiscal year 2024-2025 annual comprehensive financial report or audit. Um, we had a clean audit. Um, the auditor opinion was that the town of Cheshire, Connecticut complied in all material respects with the compliance requirements. So, you know, the record The only recommendation we had from the auditors was to have several We have our processes documented, but they wanted them consolidated into one place in the form of an accounting procedures manual. That's something that they recommended the prior year. There's been a lot of transitions with both the town and the Board of Ed's finance and HR teams. And so, you know, it is something we're looking into, but we're also looking to get some You know, we've onboarded a lot of people recently.
Demands to cure or correct board action on March 5, 2026. Agenda item J1 resolution number 2526-09. >> So are you saying that what she just said is wrong? that there was not action taken on the original and that there was a second one that was not voted on because the first one like that's that's what she's written. Oh, um so I I'm more than happy to share my notes with um um whoever needs to see the details of what I've asked for specifically. Um, but I'm looking to make sure that we properly record um my secondary motions that I made on these two um items. Uh and also record the second that was made by Trusty Tucker. And then also record, >> wasn't it? >> Yeah, she said that. >> It's it's written. >> It's there. >> It's in the minutes. >> Um it's not it's not in the minutes.
Coach Sasso has been pretty aggressive with runners [music] on first and third allowing his uh It's not going to matter. That one gets by as Derry will score and down to second base goes Krzizaulski. So, it is a 15 to two game here. And only one away here for the Gators. Yeah, as I was saying, coach has been pretty aggressive allowing his catchers to try to throw runners out with a runner on third base, uh but didn't get to see what was going to happen there with the with the wild pitch. As it's now two balls and a strike here on Tuskus. And the lead has just gone to 13. So, two more runners across and we're going to get to see Lorelei Collette. >> And we will. So, we'll There's some some positives and negatives if a couple more runs scoring as it's now a three ball and one strike out.
So, we're we're, you know, trying to get those processes in one place. But, the bottom line is that we had a great audit. We use CLA. We've used them for a number of years, and the Town Council Audit Committee also appointed CLA as the auditor for the fiscal year 2025-26 budget for the cost of $89,250, which is a $4,250 increase from the prior year. And, you know, there's not a ton of auditor firms, but that's a very reasonable price for the work that they're doing for the town. That's the audit report.
So specifically, we can look in detail about it. Um, I'd be happy to go back um and specifically help uh re preview the uh tape so we could see exactly where I'm talking about it if need be. Um, but I've stated specifically what I was looking to amend and this board voted by consensus to amend it. But you're you're asking to amend the minutes, but you made a motion to amend, but there's no motion to be amended because there was no motion to approve item one. And then discussion. Um I think I've clearly stated exactly what I was concerned about and what wasn't recorded. Um I I you might recall the um conversation uh President Buchanan. Um I made secondary motions on them and um you decided to not call it for a vote even though I specifically said can we vote on it. Um I think it's important that this action and inaction taken by this board is properly recorded in the minutes.
>> Yeah, I know obviously I want this game to end with a with a victory, but I certainly wouldn't mind having the opportunity to see Lorelei come to plate one more time if we could get that wish. As that one is upstairs. Krzcenski will take third and a walk by Tosches. So, runners on the corners here. And that fourth run is on base now to keep this game going with one away as Grace Isherwood, the shortstop, will bat here over two on the afternoon. Yeah, now we we potentially get to see what what coach Sasso decides to do with the runner on first and third. First pitch, that's a ground ball to third base. Collette will throw to the plate, but the runner did not break. >> [cheering and applause] >> So, we'll see how they rule that. It might be an error. Yeah, that So, I I'm not sure exactly how that was going to get Maybe a fielder's fielder's choice, but certainly a bit of a mental lapse there by Lorelei with the runner in front of her throwing home when you can get the easy out at first.
Any questions for Ms. Taylor on the audit? Mr. White. Thank you. Is So, I'm looking at a sheet here, and it basically has one recommendation from the auditor. Yes. About the accounting procedures manual. Did they have any other recommendations that relate to the school board? Nope. >> Or to the schools? >> Wow. Yeah, it was a really It was a really good audit. Yeah. Yeah. Okay, great. Thank you. Okay. Let's move on to um Assistant Superintendent Solano, who will uh report on the grant activity for the the 2024-25 school year. Happy to do that. Um I I all have a copy of the grants report in front of you. So, I will briefly review those item by item to let you know that the Title I Improving Basic Skills Grant in the past has been used um for LSTs, para support, for things like supporting intervention.
Um, I'm happy to sit down and go over the video specifically and aid anybody in seeing exactly where that happened just to make sure that it gets in the minutes. >> I just wanted to provide the board information for the record that um both of these sections were reviewed by legal counsel uh prior to me putting them as a draft item on the agenda. Um, if I would have known that, you know, there was any issue, I possibly could have had time to reach back out to legal to let them know what the intented u or the hoped changes were. Um, that way I could have brought something back. So, I I don't have an answer um beyond what legal had provided me as guidance originally. >> Mrs. Long shore, did you provide any of your proposed amendments to the minutes to the superintendent's office prior to this meeting?
Now, that loads the bases. They do have a force play at the plate. As Piper Bresnehan lines it into left center field. That is down and [screaming] that will get their fourth run in. >> [cheering] >> They'll hold up the runner at third base on a two RBI double from from Piper Bresnehan and it is now 15 to four. Yeah, so we were going to get have to move into the bottom of the fifth inning now. Um good piece of hitting there with the bases loaded for for Grafton with only one out and runners on second and third. You hate to see this happen because they've fallen asleep a little bit here right now. Talkers. They got They got a little I think they got a little complacent being up by so many runs. Um you know misplay there on the ground ball to collect should be two outs right now and the bases are loaded and they get a big hit for the double and now it's second and third with only one out and they can get a couple runs across.
