I'm going to ask Dr. Solon can give us some information on her. Absolutely. Um First of all, uh Christina Sherwood, our incumbent PPS director, is here in the audience and um she's certainly big shoes to fill in the role of elementary special education supervisor and I want to thank her and Marlene uh and Emily for taking a lot of time to go through the 70 applicants that we had for this position. Um there were a number of interviews that were conducted. Uh there was a talent show um where our candidates had to evaluate testing and and IEPs and uh provide feedback in a small group with Robin and Carrie and Marie Broadway. Uh I think that hiring is probably the most important thing that we do uh and getting the right people on the bus and that's why, you know, I never say that we're lucky to have the administrative team that we do or the teaching team that we do.
Okay. Um, maybe you should extend the same decorum you're asking. >> Um, the questions I had I did send in already and I got them answered before the meeting. >> Your decorum towards me is inappropriate. >> I apologize. I am so sorry that you're offended. >> That didn't work. >> We do not need a second closed. The next board meeting will be Thursday, May No, that's today. It will be Thursday, June 4th. There being no further business to come before the board of trustees, it's recommended that the meeting be adjourned. I'll make the motion. Can I get a second? >> I call for the vote. Mrs. Longore, >> I. >> Mrs. Tucker. >> Hi, >> Miss Apara. >> Hi, >> Miss Buchanan. I will close this meeting at 8:33.
Yeah, we will we will play a a full sixth inning. This thing is going to go at least six because the Clockers have an eight-run lead, and Grafton is looking to see if they can, you know, cause a little damage here. But good news that in the bottom of the sixth inning, we will get to see we potentially get to see Lorelei Collett. She is due up fourth, so one base runner would give her her fifth at bat. And maybe a three-home run game? Is that too much to ask for? >> what? That would be absolutely incredible. I I I I would love to see it happen, and what would be really fun is if Butermann, Vendetti, and Kyra could all get on base for her because what a what a sensational way to top off the season for her to end maybe with a four-bagger with three on for the old grand slam.
Uh that group is a product of a lot of hard work uh and so we're looking for people who have a tremendous attitude, uh who are really bright, um >> [clears throat] >> coachable, team players, uh and uh the problem solvers but above all else, you know, student-centered. And in the process of interviewing uh Beata Salejewski, um and I put that phonetically in the press release as well. Um Celayeski. She said something that just resonated with me and a lot of people in our group and that was uh that you know, we don't plug students into programs, we design programs around students. And um that certainly resonated with our team among you know, many other things. Uh Miss Celayeski is uh a school psychologist by by training. Um she's nationally certified in that respect, uh licensed professional counselor. Uh she spent the last 6 years in the Excuse me, I guess I should pass out I do have her um Yeah, thank you.
It is a walk-off in it it's own way. You know, not to to mercy. A walk-off to mercy. That would be so pretty cool for her. >> Yeah, that would be that would be great. And if we can manifest that to happen, because they right now have an eight-run lead. They It looks like we got a substitution coming in. At first Caroline Kyra is going out. Ava Vendetti is going in for her, uh, is interesting. Now, Cairo will still have her fourth spot in the lineup, correct? Is that how that works or >> so. I I do I do think so. I think that she will still be allowed to hit, but that's why I was saying that's interesting because Ava is also batting. So, Yeah, but oh, Ava's the designated player. She's the designated player. Yes, Ava's the designated player. That So, it is Yeah, so Cairo still will be able to hit.
Her resume. Um She spent the last 6 years with the Avon Public Schools uh at Pine Grove School, an elementary school in Avon uh as a school psychologist, also a PPT chair. Uh she has um served in two other communities, Manchester and Hebron uh for a total of about 13 years in those different roles uh and uh meets the profile that I outlined about having demonstrated tremendous attitude and uh student-centeredness, uh collaboration with colleagues, parents, uh consideration of students and we think that she will fit exceptionally well uh not only from a professional perspective, but a cultural perspective into our school community. Um so it's my pleasure to introduce and put forward Beata Salayeski to the position of elementary special education supervisor. Ann Marie would like that phonetic spelling. >> Phonetic spelling, please. >> Yes. Salayeski. Thank you, Deputy Solan. Okay. I also want to mention that I was one of, I think, 15 participants um who interviewed her.
As Holly Cashin throws ball one to begin the sixth inning facing Grace Isherwood, who's one for three so far this afternoon. As Cashin looks for a scoreless inning here. Here comes the 1-0. It's a ground ball to shortstop and it gets off the foot there of Ustaris and in the center field. So, most likely an error there for the Clockers. That's only their first error today if it goes down as one. >> You know what, Jacob? I'm not sure if that's going to be an error. That ball was hit hard. That that thing came right shot out at her. The official score may give that a single. I I would really think about that. I think that that ball was It did. Tough tough score today. I'm not sure who that is, but that You know, it could have gone either way. As that one's grounded to the third.
Um it was quite lengthy, and she did come out on top of the three um people that we did interview. So, I'm very happy tonight to uh put her name. We just need a motion. Yep. That the Cheshire Board of Education appoint Beata What did I do with it? Salayeski. Is that correct? Thank you. As supervisor of elementary special education effective July 1, 2026, to be compensated based upon the collective bargaining agreement between the Cheshire Board of Education and the Cheshire administrative personnel.
Collette gets one. Buttermans throw to first is not in time, but a great job by Collette to get the lead runner for out number one. Yeah, that's her fourth assist of the day, uh, for Lorelei. And again, I mean, she she might be sweeping the awards today. Uh, she might be sweeping the awards with with the offensive and defensive player of the game, uh, as she makes a really nice play to get the lead runner at second. Just can't turn it in time for [music] the double play. This one away. That's a good off-speed for strike one as the number five hitter Ava Welch, who started on the mound is now in center, will bat. She is one for one, has walked twice and scored twice. So, here comes the 0-1. That's a swing and a miss and a good stop behind the plate by Kazanjian on a ball that could have got by.
Any discussion? Matt? I would just like to know what you plan to have your students call you because if we can't pronounce it >> [laughter] >> You don't need to answer that yet. Any other discussion? Um I just want to say I went over the uh resume when when Dr. Solan first put it out to us. Um and it's very comprehensive. So, I don't know the qualifications at you know, at this level in the public schools, but my, it was impressive. So, um very happy to vote to bring you on board. Thank you. Okay, any other discussion or questions? Okay, all in favor? Thank you and congratulations. >> Congratulations, Biada. >> [applause] >> You're welcome to come to the mic if you like to make a couple comments prior to us moving to the next item. Good evening. Is it on? Mike's probably just firing it up now.
>> Yeah, really nice scoop there by Ruby being able to save that one from going by. Keep that runner on first base. Got got down on that low. Makes a really nice stop on the on a low pitch. Here comes the 0-2 from Cashin. That is strike three looking. Good morning, good afternoon, and good night. That's a really nice pitch. She had her fooled all the way. Holly puts that right by her for a a strikeout and the second out of the inning. Uh and the Clockers look like they've refound themselves a little bit this inning. Certainly looks a lot cleaner as Crystal Martinez will bat. She's two for three. And she'll take one low. That one bounces in front of Kazanjian. The runner takes off. It's a good throw. A hard one, but it will not get Breslohan Breslohan. So, that is a runner in the scoring position with two outs here for the Gators.
That's okay. Okay, here we go. Um, I'm honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve as Cheshire's next elementary supervisor of special education. I know that I have big shoes to fill um, and I look forward to partnering partnering with Ms. Sherwood to maintain the foundation that she's built during her years in the position. I also look forward to collaborating with families and educators as we provide a continuum of supports and services for our students. Thank you again. Thank you. >> [applause] >> Congratulations, Biada. Welcome to the board. Congratulations and thank you for waiting through this whole long day. >> [laughter] >> She's got to stay till the end. >> [applause] >> Thank you. Now Christina can take you out to breakfast. >> [laughter] >> Very nice. Nice. Thank you, Ms. Cullinan. I think that's the only item for personnel. Committee, we're moving to planning.
>> Yeah, Ruby had no shot at her at second base there. Good good block keep in front of her, but absolutely no chance even with uh a really strong arm. That's a big wave and a miss there by Martinez. >> She saw Laura Lies' father walk by. He He He He can't believe it either. This is just an unbelievable showing by her. Uh we can't wait to see her get up again. That one is low. Two balls and a strike. So, two balls and one strike on Martinez. That one is grounded there to third base. Collette charges. Here's the throw and it's in time to first base. A nice stretch by Vendetti to get out number three in the top of the sixth. And we will head to the bottom of the sixth. The Clockers need four runs for a mercy here in the final game of the regular season and we'll get to see a good part of their lineup as it's Butera man, Vendetti and Kyra and if any of those batters reach we will get to see Lorelei Collette for the fifth time today.
Mr. Rocky. Well, seems like a long time ago we had a meeting. >> [laughter] >> So, uh we're bringing forward tonight, uh the uh capital budget plan. Um Ms. Taylor is going to go over some of the details, but I the things I wanted to point out is uh very little going to referendum, I believe. We have one item going to referendum. Potentially. What's that? Potentially. Just the tax Potentially, if the council approves. Um and that is something that uh we've talked about extensively with the the loading dock at the high school, with the parking lot on the side, and not in the opposite order as it was presented last year, you know, in the the uh For those that want to take the tour down there, it's it's kind of a scary sight to see the uh the loading dock held up with scaffolding and uh rebar crumbling uh around the concrete.
A chance for her third home run this afternoon. But a good inning from Cashin on the mound and Tosches will pitch another inning here for Grafton. Five runs given up in two innings here for Tosches but only one of them earned. Hasn't walked anyone and doesn't have a strikeout either. Six hits for Ashland against her and they would need four runs to try to win this in six innings and finish the season at 15 and five. Butera man on the afternoon is two for four. Couple runs scored has also driven in a run. Has made a couple nice plays at second base as well. And she'll look to get this inning going here. So what a treat it would be if we would get a walk-off grand slam for the mercy if the bases can be loaded for Lorelei Collette. But it's up to the three in front of her.
Um I think that's that's a priority. Uh I'm filling time while Ms. Taylor uh organizes her her PowerPoint that she's going to present uh to talk about the specifics of what we're proposing tonight. I'm good. Great job. Perfect timing. >> Yep. All right. Um this is a brief PowerPoint, I promise. Um but if you have not been through the capital budget cycle yet, wanted to make sure to get you up to speed on some of the items. You have a folder in front of you. It has this presentation in it. It also has um our five-year capital plan outlay and our year one asks. So, how our capital plan works is we present a five-year plan. We approve one year at a at a time. So, when you're looking at the five-year plan, what you commit to tonight is not the five-year plan, it's just year one of that plan that we would then recommend to the town council for approval.
Butera man digs in. >> Here comes the first pitch. That one is outside for ball one. Butermann ahead in the count here is the 1-0. That one is popped up back behind the plate and giving a look is Martinez, but it is out of play. And it's one ball and one strike. Mr. Mr. Cairo will return to the broadcast shortly. Here's the 1-1. Butermann grounds that one past the dive of the third baseman. That was a sliding stop at short. Butermann will get back to first base and that's an infield single. It wasn't a dive by the third baseman. It was actually the slide at shortstop by Grace Isherwood. It was a nice play and she got up and threw as quick as she could. But it was not in time. It's a three-hit afternoon for Butermann. As Vendetti will take one low. Good job from Haley.
Here we go. All right, just as an update about our school building profiles, so in next school year we have the two new buildings coming online, they will be zero years old. You can see Barnum at about 115,000 square feet and the new Norton at 96,000 square feet. We have our five active buildings, Doolittle, Highland, the Cheshire High School and the Humiston School, and then we're retiring three buildings. So, next year the average age of our buildings will shift from 75 to 53 years old. So. Just a little bit about the history of our capital expenditure approvals. This is small, but what you see is that blue line at the top is the Board of Ed requested. There's an orange line, which is after referendum. I didn't have a lot of older data on this, but if you look to the right of this graph, you can see last year where we the town the Board of Ed recommended $5.04 The town council actually approved $3.3 million, but after after referendum two items failed, each valued at $800,000, the turf and the loading dock.
Now on at first base, Vendetti's one for four so far this afternoon. Cairo on deck. Here comes the 1-0 pitch. That's a ground ball. Shortstop Isherwood will go to first base in time. Down to third base goes Butermann and good base running again from the Clockers. Butermann takes an extra base and she is now at third with one away. And Caroline Cairo will dig in next. Cairo's one for three, couple RBIs and a walk so far this afternoon. Butermann's at third with one away. Cairo takes one low. Good stop from Martinez. So Butermann led off the inning with an infield single. And then the ground out from Vendetti. Butera with good base running gets down to third. Here's the 1-0 to Kyra. That one is smoked. It would have touched at third base and the dive back to the bag by Bresnahan will end the sixth inning.
So, we were actually realized $1.7 million dollars of capital expenditures. To the right you can see our approvals throughout the years. Our average BOE request since 20, that should say 2013-2014, was about $3 million with the town council approving about $2.2 million. And like I said last year we requested $5.04 million, but ultimately after referendum saw $1.7 million. So, I will go over this more extensively, but for year one we have 27 recommended projects across the district. Um I would say the bulk it's a where it's about $5.8 million dollars we're recommending in year one for the capital plan high school and I will go over those projects and then there are some projects at Dodd Middle School, um Cheshire High School the facility services which is called the maintenance garage um and some district-wide projects. Um our five-year outlay outlook outlay outlook by category, we're asking for about $31 million dollars across five years.
