It did dwindle over time and I'm going to attribute that to the weather and all the sports and all the things that people do in the springtime. Um, but it was wonderful because even if they couldn't make it, they would reach out and say, "Can you please send me the slides so that way I could have the questions?" So, I was grateful for that. So, thank you to the parents that participated in our book study. Um, I also want to thank our teachers and our students. Sometimes, you know, one of the questions that I've heard Julie specifically you ask of how how do we know things are working? What's what's the the result the return on investment so to speak? Um, using your vocabulary. Um, one of those points is data. And so we're looking forward to sharing the data with you in the coming up months.
These are students that just need extra support. Um, it's a five day a week class and then once a week I'll go in and do small groups with the students. I also do um, one-on-one meetings with students at Riverview and Crestview that have like higher mental health needs. Um, and then we have a really great partnership with um, the Bowen Center. So it's actually we are the only high school that this is like working with high school and middle school. Um to the point where they're asking us how are we doing this and how can we get other high schools and middle schools involved. Um so what this looks like if I have a student who I think needs outside referral and needs more therapy I'll do a bowen center referral and it let's say that that student is like I can't get like either I can't have transportation or my parents can't get me there but I could see somebody during school.
Several of them started this morning. All projects that we have going are on schedule at this point. Just a quick update. That's all I have for tonight. There is a project meeting tomorrow morning for the high school HVAC. Yes. So, we've had several meetings with contractors to make sure we're all on the same page with that. And just a reminder, commencement is Sunday the 31st starting at 4:00. So, we and the board will will meet in the high school office approximately 3:15. Kankakee Valley School Corporation's new website is supposed to be live on June the 1st. So, you taken a look at that earlier in the in the academic year. So, we're looking forward to that. Kankakee Valley is hosting the girls softball sectionals and I had emailed provided you an email if you if you wish to attend that. You would approve this, but just a reminder, we did get an invitation as well.
>> Don't get don't do the best exhibition. >> So if no one shows up you're in your time. >> Yeah. That's why time just shines. >> No one shows up you're in. You can't have two studies. >> No, you can't. >> Well, you can. It just depends how many credits you have. >> No, you can't have two studies at once. You have to max. You have to have at least a minimum of six credits. >> Oh, yeah. I thought >> I thought Ari. >> Yeah. Well, because Arian's counselor is stupid. >> Um, >> who's a counselor? >> Oh, then you might be fine. >> Yeah, she told me like >> that's who she let Arian have two studies. >> Yeah, I was the other day. She's like, you can't do that. Someone probably overhead. >> Yeah, >> that was Mitch. >> Good. Oh yeah, >> good serve.
Our goals were 70 and our SLT knew that those were high goals for us to reach. We did not make it. We did have decent growth in our MAP scores in terms of achievement, but we didn't see our growth goals being met. I'll talk a little bit more about the difference between those two on the next two slides. Um, we still did see a lot of positive things happening in MAP. It just doesn't show in the goal that we chose to um, look at. So, I'll explain that in a minute. Um, the second thing on there is our panorama data. We've talked about this percentage as well. So the 70 72nd percent means that we are still in the 90th percentile nationwide for data that we receive for belonging but we were hoping to raise it to 73. Talking to Panorama representatives 73% is really uh moving 1% to 2% is really a big jump for a year.
All right, J. I'm losing the crowd here. Honestly, that was a little boring. These lighting up a little bit. I have 400 parents in the graduation ceremony who are a little nervous to send their kids to graduating high school and they're also wondering why I'm using an AI in this speech. What are the mo two most critical piece of advice we can share? Please don't be too boring here. Add a little humor. Make it meaningful. All right, here we go. Two tips. The skyward security blanket stays but the stakes get real. Parents, I have fantastic news that will save you hours of tech support frustration. Grant Community High School uses Skyward family access just like the new Big Hollow. However, Big Hollow checking scholar might have been making sure that you finish their middle school science worksheet to grant those grades start building a permanent GPA.
Um, but as we start looking at preliminary AR data that was released, we are shifting again in the right direction. The direction that we would want to see us continue to shift, we are still continuing in that direction. I can't give you specifics because, you know, it's preliminary top secret, but once it's officially released, then we'll go ahead and do that. Well, Dr. Burke Meer, we'll go ahead and do that in November. But I'm telling you right now, it's looking good. We also reached I'm going to give you a little sneak peek. We reached a new milestone with access testing. You'll have to stay tuned to next month to get the details from uh Miss Kramer, but we have reached another new accomplishment here in Kerry 26 as it relates to access. Um and then last of all, our 2627 professional development is underway already and they are launching um institute day similar to what we do in January where we uh collect input from our staff to host and facilitate PDS.
Um so they do a program called Better View where they able to see a counselor during the school day. The first year we did this, the whole process we got one student and I was like, we're going to keep going. We're going to try harder. We're going to make this work. Um, and so we doubled our efforts at every school. Um, and we saw four students at the high school, two at Riverview, and two at Crest View. And so my goal is to make it so we can see five to seven students at every school. So, we have a dedicated therapist that's seeing students every single period of the day. So, first through seventh period. Um, and then if we can do that, then we'll make a bigger goal. But that's my goal for next year. Um, so that's been really exciting. Um, so those are all tier 2 interventions that we're doing within the school system.
Uh Amazon data center presentations or open house informational night will be tomorrow at the high school from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. I believe. You're all welcome to attend that. And ISBA conference October 5th and 6th if you wish to go, I will need to know that because they'll have early bird resi- registration here in June if you would like to attend that. So, just let me know. Those are all the items that I have for regular work session. Busy week. Senior awards is also Sunday, so we have a Or excuse me, Thursday. That is Thursday. So, Mike and I will be there I hope presenting. Scholarships for the educational foundation as well as Rotary. Yeah, right. So. All right. Anything else for us? All right.
>> He won by four. >> He served it over his dead ass twice on his own side. >> He does. Oh, this kid on the right just so it sounds twice on his own side. >> How do you do that? Yeah, exactly. >> Of played one match. >> Now you're undefeated. >> No, I'm like I'm like two and six. >> He's defeated. >> Oo is defeated, bro. six real never left. >> No, >> they left the >> playoffs. >> Oh, yeah. >> But I mean, can we do anything about it? That's their coach. >> I think your coach will let us meet against that. exhibition. >> I feel I feel like >> what's going on, bro? >> You ready for the pool party? >> Oh, yeah. >> You think you're going to pull this one out? >> [laughter] >> You don't have to discipline. >> I would I would honestly I scored on He's loaded.
Um but we were hoping to do that. We didn't. We stayed level which is better than dropping but we would love to see those scores go up. The last thing on here is our champs opportunities to respond. So, our SLT team goes into classrooms and watches teachers for about 10 minutes in the classroom and they mark literal tallies on a sheet of how many times students have an opportunity to respond. We have 11.6 in the fall. We were shooting for 14 and we ended up with 11.93 kind of growth um mathematically speaking but not what we would want to see. One thing to consider with this is that the rate that we are expecting or hoping in an ideal classroom is between 10 to 40 opportunities to respond in 10 minutes. Some classes did hit that 40 mark, but there are others that have some room for growth.
My advice, resist the urge to refresh the app every 20 minutes. Give your new Bulldogs the space to fix their own mistakes. Number two, shifting from the warrior shield to a bulldog's leash. Interesting. Throughout their time at Big O, we've been fiercely You've been fiercely protecting these warriors. You've carried their shields, double checked their backpacks, cleared obstacles out of their way. Now they're becoming bulldogs. Bulldogs are incredibly tough in the oil. But it's any dog ever knows if you pulled too hard on the leash, the dog just they just dig their paws in the dirt, refuse to move. High school is the time to start lengthening the leash. Grant places a huge emphasis on student self- advocacy. The next time your child has an issue with a grade, a schedule, or sport, let them email the teacher or coach. Your job is officially shifting from being their day-to-day manager to being their behind thescenes consultant.
They're going to look to do that in August with our staff. And so I really want to say thank you to our teaching and learning department that have been um a big asset in the transition between myself and Dr. Burkemeer. And I also want to say special thank you to Dr. Bergmeer cuz she has hit the ground running and she's spearheading all of that with the professional development for the 2627th school year. So transition is smooth as can be I will say and in the teaching learning department. So thank you to everybody. Um and I'm wishing everybody a safe and warm and fun-filled summer. >> Thank you. Um, last Monday we met for the committee of the whole and we went over the bills, the treasures report as standard and we discussed school student lunch prices. Um, we got a uh update on the summer construction and I think if you anybody's driven by Aldi, it's starting to shape up there.
And then tier three, um, Viking Success is a program here at the high school that's mostly juniors and seniors. And much like Cougar Success, I go into Viking Success and I work with um the two teachers for that program and they'll recommend people that will need to come to be in this small group. And so we meet once a week. We talk about everything from substance abuse to suicide prevention to specific mental health questions and concerns that they have. And that has been one of the most lifegiving things I think that I have done so far in this job. um just meeting with those students and making those um relationships. Uh this year I worked with a student to create something that we're calling the protocol and she helped me develop it. She came to me after I did a presentation on Romeo and Juliet and I explained what my job was and she said, "I am really struggling with nicotine addiction.
>> Yeah. >> Bro, I swear to God, >> dude. [ __ ] It says 31 [ __ ] >> I'm saying all the way through. >> Oh yeah, Eli. >> Yeah, Eli. What I would give Mr. Anderson >> I thought I wish we had Mr. Mr. >> Mr. Anderson >> the only thing Mr. Anderson posting. >> Yeah, exactly. >> And like that too. >> Yeah, for sure. >> Did you see them in the girls? >> Yeah, he would like lock them in his room. >> Yeah, he would like post pictures of him in his >> office. Munchkin flag just him and her >> lock all the hot girls in his room. He doesn't let him out. And then he'd be like I I remember I talked to him. >> No, he's such a he's just a big teddy bear like bro. >> He he he didn't even know what we were talking about.
So, we averaged out to pretty close to what we were in the fall. Our SLT has come up with some goals and some ideas of how we can increase that moving forward. A lot of factors play into that, including when you're going, what time you're going, what classes you go to, but we really want to see those improve. Um, so although our goals were not met, there are some highlights for us to look at. Down at the bottom, if you look, our overall proficiency increased, but students failed to meet growth goals. That'll be on the next two slides. And then students with 504s, their sense of belonging rose on the panorama data three percentage points. Every area of their ratings for 504s increased. Um, and then students with IEPs saw growth in five to of five% in two different breakdown questions. So, those are big percentages to jump in Panorama and we were excited to see that happen in some of our groups that don't always feel like they belong.
I kind of like that. Not bad, Gemini. Not bad. But, you know, all that information I just gave you was from Gemini. pretty decent points. However, it was pretty generic and it wasn't at all for me. So, we live we live in a world where artificial intelligence, whether you like it or not, is becoming incredibly powerful. As you can just see, by the time you all start your careers, a AI will likely play a role in whatever career you choose. It's fast. It's smart. It's becoming more powerful on a daily basis. But I want to tell you this this evening is there are things about you that AI cannot replace. There are special skills, we're going to call them soft skills that only you can possess, only you can develop. These are the traits that are going to set you all apart and make you truly valuable no matter what technology advances happen in your lifetime.
the the uh footings and stuff in the driveway looked like. And we um talked about a district salary study that we'll be voting on tonight. Um we talked about uh the joint conference downtown Chicago in November and we did um a press review and several of those will be in the consent agenda and one will be in for discussion and that was that was it. So, and that takes us to the consent agenda. Um, included are those items that are routine in nature. Should any board member wish to remove an item from the consent agenda, the item will be discussed at the end of section 11? Does anybody wish to remove one of the items? I would like to um take out 10.11 administrative and non-union pay increases for the 2026 2027 school year and move that to the end of section 11. Any other items that Okay.
I don't know how to quit and I don't know how to stop and I need help." And so we created a protocol where she would come into the nurse's office every morning and give like her stress, like where she was for stress. Um, and then every time that she visits the nursing office, she would get a piece of gum. And I know that that seems like a small thing, but having the both a relationship with someone that's listening to you and seeing where your stress is and then getting something that can stop you using um during the school day is a really big deal. Um, so this student was fantastic like helped me create the whole program. Um, and um, she's officially quit right now. So, I'm super proud of her. Um, but I think that there's a lot more work for us to do within substance abuse prevention within the school system.
>> Didn't know what we were talking about. >> It's the first the top 32. If you have a record, >> the world deserves to know. >> What do we say? I mean fairly >> bad. >> Lost a [clears throat] couple matches early. >> Oh, you have a head out. >> Is it just like this? >> Yeah. >> Good maximum. still hasn't. >> Yeah, you've actually got another buddy. Are there like more? >> Oh yes. >> So they go >> this best though. >> Hopefully they win the next one. What was >> now? >> What? >> Second do is >> the second is heated. >> I know. >> We be watching that. >> This is like >> We're not watching yet. >> This is not competitive.
