They do an outstanding job. Now, here's the other thing I'd like to address. Listen, I had 5 minutes, and then I saw your agenda, and I only get a couple, so bear [laughter] with me. I knocked I knocked two things off. Okay. Um now, I'd like to address substitute pay. I know, as a former teacher myself, I taught school over Middle School, that many teachers are reluctant to or simply don't take the days they're entitled to because they know there's a shortage of subs. And they deserve to take the time off that they've earned uh without feeling guilty. I have now worked in three school corporations and Maconaquah's substitute pay is the lowest. As a substitute teacher, I do much more than just take attendance. I lead students in class lessons, I manage the classroom environment, I build relationships with the students and the teachers and the staff.
Mac turns around. Good job by Mac Whitmer to turn around scoop one past the goalie for her third goal of the game. What do you think about that one, Bo? >> I That was great. I was like I liked that little action with Macney and Whitmer. So, hopefully they can keep working on that throughout the night and I think there'll be some success with that certainly. So, >> Absolutely. As when I was driving over here, Bo, I was thinking about something. Thinking about you and I turned around I was always call you Bo knows. Your dad knows about the whole Bo That shirt. And I was thinking about it. If you combine your nickname Bo along with the end of your last name Bo knows. >> Bo knows. There it was. >> It was there the entire It was there the entire time. >> the entire time.
Looking at these two dayto day in the hallways, getting off the buses, in the cafeteria, friendly with everybody. And what made what stood out for these two students is their ability. You see the gears going. Are they going to make the right decision or are they going to make a mistake? and they always make that right decision. When everybody was going left, they chose to go right. So Casey and Ricky aren't here today. Ricky, >> one thing, um, you know, since Ricky's here, um, always does the right thing at Brav, part of our leadership community at Bravio. One thing that stood out that Ricky did is when the hurricane hit Jamaica, Ricky came to me and said, "I would like to support this co cause." He teamed up with students, families, and uh and teachers within the broad community and earned a lot of money and a lot of resources to send down to um uh Jamaica.
[applause] I apologize. I got us out of order. Thank you, Mrs. Hurt, for getting me back on the right page. We had one student in the senior class who completed all the requirements for the Indiana State Board of Cosmetology license. That student is Ella Stroberg. [applause] and I was supposed to read this before the the list of students prior. As we continue to celebrate the class of 2026, we will be recognizing several students and many awards and have more than one recipient. We do ask that you hold your applause until all recipients for the award have been called, as you just did. We do have one more individual before we get into those list of students. We want to recognize our Indiana academic regional all-star recipient this year, Ashley Kalinowski. [applause] The following student has enlisted into the United States military into the United States Air Force.
I provide encouragement and I fully support student success. I believe many other substitutes approach the job with the same level of commitment. Yet Maconaquah's sub pay is the lowest in the county and in surrounding counties. And I am distributing to the board members tonight um what the pay is. I provide I provide you something to compare to. Now, these rates are based on a bachelor's degree and most schools pay $10 less for um substitutes less than a bachelor's degree. Um I appreciate your time. I know you allow 30 minutes. I have more to say, but my time is up. So, thank you very much for your time and I appreciate it. >> Thank you. >> [clears throat] >> Okay. And nobody else on the list? >> Correct. >> Thank you, Mrs. Worland. Okay. That brings us down to item 6.1, 6.2, 6.13 and personnel reform.
Nine years have gone by and I never thought about it until I was coming over here. >> Here we are. >> And here we are. Last game. Congratulations. She is often willing participant in the classroom. Shows both diplomacy and genuine concern for those around her. Congratulations, Kirstston. Okay. And then if we can have Principal Mike Flynn again of Westside Middle School. Well, it wasn't planned this way before. I had two young men. Now I have two young ladies coming up for this award. Like I said before, all four show leadership. I can't thank them enough when I need help for and many school activities including the staff uh versus student basketball game. Marin was there for that helping out uh many activities. Uh when we have sixth grade orientation and kids need to be shown around, we use the NJHS kids to help out with those activities and they show their leadership and and giving tours and helping parents during conferences, but they they show leadership in different styles and but both gets them to the point of collaboration, teamwork, and and they both have great great hearts.
