So, they would be able to lock other vendors out. Right now, it is with it is with McGriff. I'm sorry. No, Marsh. They change their name four times. It's all good. It's with Marsh. Um and so, they So, he wouldn't even be able to give me a bid if if we keep it where it's at. >> Yeah. >> So, all right. >> So, you can you can name the vendor. >> Correct. >> All right. >> Correct. >> Does the state require us to open for all state? >> They do not. So, at that point, you name your vendor and they go out to the carriers and they get quotes for you. I also have been working with the trust as well >> [clears throat] >> because that gives us another edge, right? So, we hope we have multiple carriers who say, "Hey, we want to bid this." And we hope we have the trust.
>> I I think so. We'll see. We'll see what they do when they come up with the money. The ball pops out. Matthews comes up with it again. Matthews getting the ball over to Arnold. Intercepted by Mac Whitworth and this is where the Spartans are always tough in transition. Look for Mac Whitworth to find a seam. If not, she'll find Illingsworth or Pelletier or Good job Good job by Mac Whitworth for her sixth goal of the game. And that goal there, she ties the Spartans season season sec- season record for goals scored in a season with 105 goals beating Addie Jordan set that record two or three years ago. Good congratulations to Mack Whitwer on that. And I And not taking anything away, not to cut you off, but I just wanted to turn around and say that that goal started and finished because Pelletier and Illingsworth did an incredible job starting off bringing the girls close to the cage and then pulling the girls away and creating that scene for Mack Whitwer.
Um, and the need is is real. As many of you know, um, three and four, three of four children in America, uh, lack access to after school programs. Um, and and that is kind of what we exist to change here, um, in the community. Um, our impact in Ridgefield, we've been in the community for 90 years. 1936, um, the then boys club was opened. Um and over those years obviously have earned the trust of our families, our schools and our community. Uh currently today we serve more than 3,500 kids. Um those are regular users of the club in Ridgefield. So that uh encompasses summer camp, after school program, before school program, teen programming. Um but kids that are club members, active kids in in the clubhouse. Um so it is a a large um you know large membership. Um and we have provided over $1.5 million in financial assistance since 2019 um which is about 38% um of our members um to access our programs which are already set to be low and affordable.
She won several dog grooming competitions. And she had a very long list of very satisfied clients, both K-9 and human, who loved her and her work. So the lesson we learned was that Colleen's potential was never measured on a credit on a report card. Her true value was her impeccable work ethic, her patience, nurturing, and her creativity. She had passion and potential. It just wasn't in math, English, and history. Her story tells us that every person has a talent that needs to be shared with the world. You just have to find it. One day, Colleen said to me, "Mom, can you believe I get to play with dogs all day and I get paid to do it?" It was in that moment that I realized that her short 21 years, she figured out what it takes most of us a lifetime to figure out. She found her passion and she found a way to get paid to do it.
I mean, when it all comes down to it, we look at what's the premium, what's the deductible, what's our coverage, what's the best option for the mechanical. The same thing we've done. We just haven't had There's not been a whole lot of appetite um to get bids. >> Does the >> [clears throat] >> Does our I think it's 40 acres of agricultural land that we use that advantage, disadvantage, or just no factor in >> It's It's It's not really It's not really a factor at all. Um in a lot of the rural schools. You know, I mean we There's There's There's always There's always different exposures. And but that's not one that's of concern. Yeah. >> Yep. Thank you. You mentioned the deductible a little bit. >> Mhm. >> I know the the deductible we have now just seems enormous. >> It is. >> Um what's your plan on on looking at that?
So, an all-around team effort on that. Yes, absolutely. >> People don't see that when you taking those defenders away or if they stay, now Mack can get an eight an eight-meter attempt for shooting space. >> Certainly. >> Good job on the Spartans this time. Marino Matthews comes up with it once again. The Cagney with an empty check. Matthews turning around gets the ball over. Restraining line will set up Melrose's offense. Kick the ball over to Healey. Over to Arnold. Who has behind the cage now? Ball's thrown away. Lucy Parsons can't come up with it. At 16 Spartans swarming. Good job by the offense. The offense attackers are swarming it. Illingsworth comes up with a temporary lot of empty stick checks and Illingsworth comes up with the ball. Good job by Julia. She turns around, gets the ball up to Parsons. Spartans have the numbers. You'd like to see Lucy with her speed try to go in.
Um so that is another arm of the Boys and Girls Club. We've already um begun to do that and helping a lot of our families that are at the club um that need that support um and uh you know we'll continue to do so. So that is a large part of what Boys and Girls Clubs do uh does. Um and our club we've we've been you know recognized um as a top performing club. Our organization um as some of you that were I know Dr. Casemiro Michael were at the the ribbon cutting in Danbury. We did have Jim Clark the national president and CEO there to speak about um how important this is for um Boys and Girls Club to come into the community. Um we are uh very active, you know, kind of nationally to make sure our voices are heard and um we've been the beneficiary of of numerous, you know, recognitions over the years and and national awards.
Because of her path, Colleen's scholarship is a little different than most. It does not include any academic requirements. We wanted to be able to invest in people like Colleen who just didn't necessarily excel in academics, but had so much to offer the world. With that said, this scholarship is open to anyone who resides in Decar County. Anyone who's willing to give their God-given talents to help animals in some way that shares Colleen's genuine and unconditional love for animals. Students and adults alike are eligible to apply for the scholarship. Colleen scholarships managed by the Decar County Community Foundation. So, our applicants range from students pursuing a doctorate in veterinary medicine, bachelor's degrees in animal science to vocational students learning vette tech, dog grooming, dog trainers, and even animal behavioralists. We also have adults who apply for this scholarship who haven't figured out by the time they graduate high school what they wanted to do, but then decided to go into an animal welfare business or trade.
>> Yeah, I'm really glad you asked. I mean, I didn't know how detailed you want me to get. But but the truth of it is is So So you guys are sitting with a very large deductible for a school, you know, in comparison to the risk, the total property risk. So basically, um you know, that same carrier uh that you're with um that you were with when when when I left and and and made an ownership transition. Um they will actually do a much lower deductible for us. Now, I don't know why I don't know why that you still have or you had a much higher deductible. >> I have neither. >> I can only I can only I can only assure you that um a lot of it comes down to persistence and and you know, the right communication. Um so basically, let's just assume that there's a I still think a hundred thousand is large.
Ball gets knocked away. Pelletier comes up with it. Pelletier pulls back, gets the ball over to Marino. She's over the line. Over the line on that. I don't know how they couldn't have saw that. Stepped >> That was Yeah, I >> She stepped over the line. That was offsides. Kylie Marino gets a card. Kylie Marino will be getting a uh I don't know what the card was for, but Marino is sitting out the rest of the half. There's 13 seconds left. Spartans up 6-4. Plenty of time for Melrose to to score. Spartans almost want to let them sit back a little bit and eat up the clock. Yeah. >> Did you see Grace Howard telling the girls get back? >> Yep. >> Ball's loose. And if anybody can get it and score, that'll end up the clock. I'd like to see Parsons if she came up with it.
Um and you know, so that's our organization and that's sort of what we're bringing in here to Danbury, you know, um and very excited to um you know, have this opportunity um in the city and and to to meet many of you tonight. Um, you know, when school is out, the club is in. So, people often think of the Boys and Girls Club as an after-school program. We kind of get lumped into that. Um, and we are an afterchool program. Uh, but the club, I think, is really so much more than that. Um, we are open before school, not yet in Danbury, but you know, if there's a need, we'll certainly look at that. Um, we're opened um during all school vacations, whether it be spring break days off, professional development days, anything that's not a major holiday. Uh the club is open all day long and as I said throughout the summer months.
Before we announce the this um this winners of this scholarship, Colleen's friend Molly, who when she went to high school, would like to to share a few words. When I think about Colleen, my mind goes many different ways. There's not a single bad memory I can think of with her. However, there's so many that I love so much. From fighting our toughest battle together to attending every national FFA convention to giving our all out on the brick dust, everything she did, she did with her entire heart. She wasn't one to fight with her friends and family often, but even if she did, she was still there to support them when they needed her. Colleen was someone was truly someone we should all look up to and strive to be like. Her overly full heart made sure everyone in her life knew how deeply she cared for them.
All right? So let's just say there's a hundred thousand dollar, you know, deductible on your property for claim. We've got this We've got this program that we've developed um that basically we call it a buy down. So we can actually we can actually price a twenty-five thousand dollar deductible um and anywhere in between where you're where you're at. It's just rated appropriately. And then there's a there's a there's a a factor for the property valuation. Okay, but with that being said, it presents options that have been much more attractive, you know, than not. >> Exactly. >> Right? So that when you have it there's always an element of risk when you're when you're a public school, especially when you look at the buildings and everything else. If you have a catastrophic event, it's not like you have to spend everything that is um unappropriated. Um you know, just to cover the deductible.
And that's dangerous throw with no time left. Spartans going into halftime up 6-4. Stay tuned, everyone. >> Mhm. >> Add it to when you're done. >> Are we back? Okay, we're back. >> Welcome back to second half action. What do you think we need to do? What do you What do you think both teams need to do, Bo? >> Like we were talking about for Melrose, I think you said sure sticks, and I think that's totally what they have. I mean, they're definitely consistent. Everyone They've worked it around a lot, and I think they've just been coming short in like the finishing aspect, but I'd like the spar- I'd like to see a little bit more of that maybe from the Spartans moving it around, getting some more getting some more people involved. I think >> A lot more movement. >> Yep. If so if some other attackers demand attention, then I think that'll open things up for the Spartans on the offensive end, so >> I think that's a good good little strategy.
Um we partner with Richville public schools during the day uh to host a transition program for the 18 to 22. Um we also partner with the alternative high school program and actually run their fizzed classes. Um this is all in Richfield. Um and partner with the ESY summer services program. So just some things that we've developed um over the many years. um working with the schools specifically. Um and really the stat that that kind of drives everything that we do is 20% of a young person's waking hours are spent in school. Um and the club is really here for that other 80%. Right? And and how do we put our arms around these kids and families that need us? Um Danbury families have been uh have been with us uh for many years. I would say probably the last 15 or so years as our club has grown um and become more regional um you know the need uh for summer camp specifically um has has led a lot of Danbury uh families to attend.
Seeing the community come together to support her family has been so amazing to me and I know she definitely would have loved it. So, I just want to thank each of our sponsors and everyone that has given to this scholarship fund. This scholarship was formed in hopes of helping someone that possesses all of the amazing characteristics Colleen had. To this year's scholarship winners, I hope you are inspired by the person Colleen Bray was and honor her memory throughout your career. Thank you, Molly. That one got me. Okay. All right. With that being said, um it is much pleasure for us to be able to present three students with $1,250 scholarships to students who embody calling embody Colleen's love and of animals by pursuing an education and a career in animal welfare. We're proud to award these scholarships to Jonah Helm. Elizabeth Balszer and Ryan Rutherford.
I would never want to put one of our schools in that position. >> Okay. Good answer. Very good answer. >> In schools our size, um what type of are you seeing more than one bid? >> Yeah, so so the answer is yes. Um yes. And there's a lot of there's a lot of variables. Um there's a um the variables such as what's the prior claims history. And again, I'm going to try to talk like an underwriter. All right? I'm not an underwriter. You know, we deal with them. Um and and some are better than others. Um but you try to talk like, you know, what they look Like they look at your claims history. They look at the condition of the property, specifically the roofs. Okay? It's been a big big deal of late. Um and then, you know, you look at you look at the other things, you know, what's what's the you know, property losses, auto losses, you know, what's the internal management characteristics.
Spartans going into second half with a two-goal lead, 6 to 4. Mac Mac Whitwer with all four all six of the Spartans' goals, tying Addie Jordan for the Spartan lead all time. And Arnold Matthews with two goals and Daniels with a goal for Melrose. Spartans still down a player for >> Oh, I forgot about that. >> minute 40. As Daniels comes up with the ball, the ball bouncing up. Good grab by Matthews. Matthews takes a shot, saved by Julia Gray. McEachnie with the ball. She has open room. McEachnie gets the ball over the restraining line. Hopefully, she pulls back, and this is when the Red Raiders should really kind of double-team whoever has the ball because we're down a player. Pellegrino with the ball. She turns around and gets the ball back to McEachnie. McEachnie gets the ball to Whitwer. Whitwer turns around, finds a seam.
Um and you know we we understood that need you know pretty much right away when we started to look at um areas around us that could really benefit from the club. Danbury was certainly the very top of our list and it just took some time to kind of get a foothold I think in the last year or so. Uh a space finally became available um that made sense for us and we were we were ready. Um, so since opening in January, uh, the Danbury Clubhouse, thanks to the support of Danbury public schools, um, has, uh, already registered 330 members and we are now averaging 215 kids a day walking through the doors. Um, another thing to note is out of that 215 a day, 50 of those uh, students are teens and tween, so middle school and high school, which is a big stat in terms of Boys and Girls Club, looking at, you know, kids that can connect and and connect in those formative years.
[applause] Congratulations. Good morning. I'm David Springer. This is my wife Renee. We're here to represent to present the Bonnie Springer Nursing Scholarship. This scholarship was started to honor all the caring nurses who took care of Bonnie when she was sick many years ago. The scholarship this year is for $1,280 and this year it goes to Tava Wedding. [applause] Good morning once again. My name is Larry Moore and my lovely wife Beverly is mentioned to me. We are here to present the Glenn and Joanne Moore scholarship award. My parents were child childhood sweethearts and they moved to Greensburg in 1955 and they purchased their first retail store. They raised us four kids and we all attended the Greensburg school system and we all went on to post-secary education. They were prominent merchants from 1955 to 2013 and they had the mortgage true value store and the nearest department stores here in town as well as others.
