Um but with all that being said, is um I just go back to say that, you know, if I look at a if I look at a solid three-day school, um there's certain parameters of where the insurance premium should be. And what we run into a lot is that's not the case. You know, so it's just a matter of, you know, sharing that information and basically doing it, I feel like I'm pretty anal, but I feel like that, you know, we do it a little bit more in depth uh and we do it a little bit better than than most of them than most of our competitors. Sorry, my allergies have been killing me lately. >> [clears throat] >> You understand. And then some come out and they flare up. I don't know. Um but anyway, that's um that's maybe the best answer I can give you.
That's How is that I I'm going to be a Mac, good stick hands nevertheless, gets the ball back. Mac Whitwer goes in and out. Whitwer still with the ball, turns around, and takes a takes a shot, and this is just just high as Lucy Parsons there? Spartans should be probably another 30 seconds and Kylie will Kylie Marino will jump back in. Pellegrino with the ball. Pellegrino goes in and out of a couple of defenders, gets hit to the body, to the face, you pick it. Pellegrino >> What's coming out? >> Then Pellegrino ends up I don't even know what the call was. >> know. It might have been something with a screen. I don't know cuz >> Oh, illegal screen. Yeah, we're good for that. We tend to always move the move the body. >> Same with me, so I was >> were always good at doing that.
Um, so off to a obviously a great start. I think the transportation being provided um, from most of our public schools is really what has led us to this early success. I can't thank the board of ed cara and her team enough. I mean, great leadership. As soon as we we met early on in this, um she wanted to get behind it. Uh and and has made things happen in so many ways. And so, um you know, we're fortunate to be in this community. Um we're fortunate to be able to work with such a great group of of leaders at at this level. Um and it's really made all the difference in the world. So, um we know the demand is here. Um as I said, we are supporting families who need financial assistance. Um, and we'll continue to do so as as we look to uh run summer camp and open summer camp.
My mother was a very beautiful lady, kind, generous, internally driven to make the best of every family situation as most of you mothers are. Glenn had integrity, was trustworthy, believed in his that his word was his bond, and in a handshake. That's pretty basic. It gives me great pleasure to ask Ansley Harris to come to [snorts] the stage to accept this award. [applause] Congratulations. You guys are going to think I have multiple personalities because I'm not any of the people this thing says I am. Um, I would like to invite Ethan Smith to come forward. Ethan is going to be receiving the On Eagle's Wing scholarship that was put together by the Heran family. As you'll notice as people tell their stories, a lot of the gifts that you're receiving today are because somebody lost somebody that was very important that was much loved. So, you're being a recipient of these people's generosity and desire to remember somebody so that their name is always out there long after they're gone.
Um but it's but it's an honest answer. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Yeah. >> I've got one more. >> Yes, sir. Are there schools in the state that combined joint forces and enter some sort of consortium to go out and get better deals? >> Yeah, so uh 15 years ago or so we we kind of put one of those together. Um and uh yeah, here's what it is. It do you get a better deal? I think there are for a while we were getting a discount. And and I don't really know what the discount was. It varied, but maybe we were getting somewhere between 5% and and maybe 7%. Now, that's a sizable amount. Um but like we did all the Howard County schools for a long time. And had them with Liberty Mutual. And um that included Kokomo uh Kokomo schools. And and it worked for about 3 years.
>> Yeah, so I can't can't say too much about that, but >> Defender Good gets the ball up to the other side and Kylie Marino joins the rest of the Spartans as we're now even. Matthews turns around, gets the ball in front. Misses just wide. It's McNeely behind the net. McNeely to Daniels. Daniels turn to be behind the cage. Daniels looks to go around, nothing there. Oh. >> So that's an 8-meter here? >> Yeah, that'll be an 8-meter at 10. It looks like Mary Devoy got a little too close on that and Daniels getting an 8-meter attempt. Looks like she's a lining up to run it in. A lot of times they'll cut back. >> Mhm. Some issues with the goal down there, I guess. They're moving it. Guess it's fine now. >> Yes, yeah. Just reps are thorough when they want. Daniels pulls back out, gets the ball over to Arnold.
Uh, which I would say wasn't in the initial plan for year 1 2026, but but the need is there. The families uh need us open and so we're in the process of getting that licensed. Um, it won't be to the extent of of the Ridgefield camp, but we do believe we'll serve about 200 kids a day. Um, and uh and and hopefully be able to grow from there. you know, Ridgefield. Um, our Ridgefield camp is actually the largest statelicicensed camp in in Connecticut. Um, in terms of number of kids a day. Um, and we obviously anticipate um the Danbury Club really being able to grow. Um, and so very excited to uh to share that. Um, very excited for the the first summer to kick off. Um, and you know, why Danbury, why now? Um, you know, I think we all know that, uh, that there's a lot of, you know, kids in the city.
So, Ethan is receiving on Eagle's Wings and it's $8,844. So, congratulations [applause] I'm presenting on behalf of Tree County Players and I would like to award the Terresa Zins Memorial Scholarship to Chloe Dick. [applause] Good morning. My name is Dick Glasser and as a member of the Greensburg Optimus Club, I'm proud to award the William H. Gray scholarship to the student whose values most clearly are in line with the Optimus Creed. Uh we reviewed applications from a number of students who was very difficult decision as your class is outstanding. The winner of the 2026 William H. Gravy scholarship is Carmen Riper. [applause] >> [snorts] >> Good morning and congratulations to the class of 2026. My name is Elena Na'vi and I'm here with my mom Jennifer and my sister Jenna to award the Brian Na'vi Memorial Scholarship in honor of my dad. My dad was the life of every gathering.
And then Liberty Mutual basically started saying, "Oh, we want to make all these changes." Well, here's here's the thing. If you have a 5A school, you know, they look at things financially uh from a financial standpoint a whole lot different than than an A or 2A school, you know. And so it just really kind of got out of sorts. Across across the state um there are a few small groups that they've kind of put together, but you can't combine one coverage that you can't combine is the workers' compensation. Each individual risk has to have that on their own. Um what's happened though is that you know, and again and I'm not I'm not picking, I'm telling you the truth on when you look at a trust program and and there is one that that you know that Craig's talking to, and they've been around for a while.
Arnold up top to Healey. Healey Don't know who that is. The other Daniels, maybe? >> Is it Matthews, 22? >> 22 Matthews, yep. Matthews. Good eyes, Matt. Good eyes, Bo. Matthews behind the the cage to Healey. Not Healey. Arnold. Arnold to Daniels. Daniels good good defense by Mac Whitworth. Or good good defense by Mary DeVoy. And good job by Gianna Byron to come in and get that stick check and pop it loose. Mac Whitworth breaking ankles out there. That's one for the highlight reel. >> Yes. >> Mac Whitworth over the 50s. She's a little bit of daylight. Gets the ball over the restraining line. Gets the ball to Parsons. Parsons runs it in turns around takes a shot. Save by McDonald. Good save by McDonald. She gets behind the net looking to start their offense. Parsons stops that. Good job by Lucy. Now it's just her and the goalie.
Um, just heard heard some great examples come through here tonight. Um, but nearly one in five Danbury residents is under 18, which means there's a lot of children in Danbury, as you all know very well. Um, and 24% of of children in Danbury live below the poverty line. um more than half uh of the Danbury public school students qualify for free and reduced meals which I know is 100% but based on the numbers which you you guys know all of this information um but really these aren't statistics I mean we are seeing these kids come through the club doors every single day and we're able to meet that need so um I you know I want to take this opportunity to you know thank you and I'll thank you later after Kristen runs through some more programming but um without your support, we would not be, you know, where we are.
He knew no stranger and would help anyone, even if it meant giving the shirt off his back. He graduated in 1987 and worked at a local factory for over 25 years. In 2018, he took his dream job as a maintenance worker for Greensburg Community Schools. Just over two years later, we learned about the illness that would take his life. If he could do it all over, he said that he would have joined the military or gone into a a trade after high school. That is why we created this scholarship to give back to our community and help students who want to continue their education in a trade technical program or a career path instead of a 4-year college. We are happy to announce the winner of the Brian Na'vi Memorial Scholarship is Lacy Durham for $1,000. [applause] It's me again. I would like Tyson Bover to please come forward.
The problem is is that they've had significant changes, and so the schools that have been able not all of them, but the numbers are dwindling, so they've been able to get out, and they they have. So, then you're left with what we call adverse selection. So, you've got the schools that have no place to go that are staying in it, and that's your experience. You know, and that's what that's where your rates and and and all the actual rates come from. So, it's just kind of one of those things, and I'm not saying that it's always not a good thing, but it really comes down to I like to have that individual choice. We feel like that we can do more when we've got a school, and we prepare the information right, you know, the right narrative, the right the right data, and then we're working with, you know, the right underwriters to at least try to get, you know, three quotations.
Gets the ball stick checked. Good job by Lucy to get a piece of that. Lucy Parsons trying to feather it into Pelletier. Pellegrino picks it up, takes a shot, misses just wide. Parsons there to back it up. >> Great pressure there by the Spartans, though. >> that. Yeah, it all started good save by McDonald and Parson Parsons stayed with that and forced the turnover. Get to keep the ball in the Spartans zone. Finds Parsons finds the open Kylie Marino, good save by McDonald. Melrose looking to restart. Melrose having a little bit of a tough time beating the ride. That ball's thrown up. Good job finding the open Healy and Healy has a little bit of daylight. Mary DeVoy tries to get [music] a stick check. Good job by Hannah Eddy to come in at the last minute. Hannah Eddy, good job running that down. >> Spartans Another turnover from the Spartans.
And, uh, you know, there's a lot more work to do. But I think it's nice to celebrate, uh, you know, four months in, we're we're uh, you know, we're beyond where we thought we would be thanks to the support of the school. So, um, with that, I want to just touch on and get a little bit more into club programming. Um, just to give you a little bit deeper dive. Um, and I'd like to call Kristen up to kind of walk us through um a little bit more on the the club programs, uh, the impact that the club has and a little deeper dive on things. >> Thanks again for having us here. I see a lot of familiar faces around the room. I was born and raised in Danbury. Um, I'm pretty sure Mrs. Cooper taught me how to um, stitch a pillow in Brav Middle School if I'm correct.
Um, Tyson will be receiving the Robert E. Simmons Memorial Scholarship. [applause] Congratulations. I'm Linda V and I'm giving the James A. Vulk scholarship award today. Jim was my husband and he died at the age of 50 with cancer and that's been a few years ago but uh we still like to be remembered and uh the James engineering scholarship this year is $2,250 and it's for Ashley Kalvowski. [applause] Good morning students, faculty, administrators, and guests. My name is Rob Eversol and this is Tammy Winning. And on behalf of the board of directors and employees of the Decar County Community Foundation, it is our pleasure to recognize, celebrate, and celebrate the accomplishments of this year's graduating seniors. We are proud as a foundation to award approximately $300,000 in scholarships to our three county graduating classes this year. Today is [snorts and clears throat] an opportunity to honor not only academic achievement but also the character, leadership, determination, and service demonstrated by these students by you students throughout their high school years.
And then we put them against each other. And and you know, I assure you that there's probably, you know, there's probably there's a plan in place, but it probably may be a little bit of I'm going to have softly say manipulation because we we don't work for them. We work for the customer. You know, and so we we were using them against each other to try to beat them down on pricing. You know, and it's just part of the it's just part of the process anyway. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Yeah. >> [clears throat] >> Any other questions? >> Thank you. >> Well, thank you thank you for the information. >> All right, thanks. >> Thank you. >> [clears throat] >> Okay. Moves up the item 8.4, overnight field trip request, girls basketball. [clears throat] >> I'm sorry. >> [laughter] >> We wake up here.
As Daniels turns around. Daniels turns around, throws it away. And Hannah Eddy turns around and says, "Thank you very much." And she turns around, turns the ball over to Matthews. Now, Matthews is off. If she can get by one, it'll just be her and Gray as she goes around the cage. And she'll set up Melrose's offense kicking the ball over to Healy. Healy over to Daniels. Daniels to the other side of the cage. The other Healy over to Matthews. Matthews seems to be Oh, no, that's not Matthews. That was Daniels. Melrose kicking the ball all the way back out to Healy. Healy with just Gianna Byron. Getting backed up. Good Good job by Burns. Now, he's stopped by Gray. Ball's popped loose. Spartans come up with that one. Some type of turnover. Call it somebody hitting back in the head again. She's used to it.
And I may still have it. No. Okay. Okay. Sorry. Close. Close. Um. Okay. So, um club programming and these are across all boys and girls clubs as Mike mentioned. Um we have access to that national um boys and girls club programming. Um and so I'm not I'm not going to go into too much detail, but just wanted to touch about the four um core areas that we have. Um and all our programs are centered around those. Um, and what makes our programs different is not just we off what we offer, but how we offer it and why we offer it. So, our programs are rooted in the formula for impact. Um, every program we run is guided by this. It's a researchbased theory of change refined over um decades. It identifies five key elements which you could see there. um a safe, positive environment, supportive relationships, a sense of belonging, high expectations, and opportunities for meaningful um belonging.
