So, it's all the Eastern states. I can tell you last year was super super fun. The kids learned a lot. It preps them for the national contest. So, we we went out to Pennsylvania last year, went through Pennsylvania, stopped at Penn State, and toured their ag facilities, Niagara Falls, and then we went into Springfield, Massachusetts and competed. We did pretty well. We had three did [clears throat] went last year, so we were short a kid because of soccer, but I feel like this year we have a pretty good chance of hopefully aiming for top five in the big E. So, we'll roll that and then we are now representing Indiana for the national contest in October. So, one uh team comes from each state, so they'll come from all 50 states and so we're excited. I just gave her her big poultry book this year to learn over summer, so I don't know if that changes anything, but no, [clears throat] it's it's super fun and I don't know if you have anything to add or do, but I just kind of threw her in here.
We have a whole bunch of them, so. Sabina McKecknie with a goal to put the Spartans up 7-4 with 31 seconds to go in the third quarter. I'm not going to lie, I I would have liked to have that at that assist to Mack. That would have been a nice nice uh 1:06 goal. >> Yep. >> But the Spartans turn around not taking anything away from the Kackney and Spartans up on the board 7-4 with 31 seconds left to go in the third quarter. Kackney on the draw. That's the first goal like you pointed out. That's the first goal for either team in this half is is a shootout to begin the beginning of the game. >> Mhm. Definitely has slowed down. >> Well, I think it's been the goalies. McDonald and Gray have just been making save after save. Kackney on the draw against Matthews.
You know, Chris and I have talked in Ridgefield. it was the better part of 20 years to really get to where we are with uh that partnership and and we're already um you know well ahead here um because of the support that we've got and so uh it just makes all the difference in the world. So um you know wanted to show you guys a few pictures here um this is just some recent shots. You know we've been having fun here in Danbury see an ice cream social on spring break. kids all outside uh hanging out. Bike safety program. We have uh been able to connect with uh DPD on a few different um programs already. We want to continue that partnership. You see the kids swim lessons. I think I mentioned in our council meeting um the other the other day um that we had already 61 um club kids uh participate in swim lessons.

She was a livestock judger and poultry is really getting big now. We have three teams this year. I have a lot of younger kids doing alongside with livestock and dairy, but you know, I think we're finally getting the traction in the Massachusetts trip is like a big push and they want to get second or above. FFA funds this trip, so we don't have this will pay for it. We have some donations coming from Indiana poultry and then Keystone and a few other places, but it's about $5,000 it costs for this trip, so the kids definitely need some footwork on this. We rent a Suburban. Last year we tried to get a Suburban, it was a minivan, but we pay for the hotels for the kids, the rental car, some meals I cover, but so the kids can experience some different agriculture related things out in the eastern part of the country.
Matthews comes up with it again. Now Matthews has been really really dominating that uh that draw. And there's a stick check on Mc- Kackney. Looks like she got a little bit too much. She got a hand. Just like the other day against picking on Minnechaug for their fans knowing everything. It seems like the Melrose fans attempting to know everything. So, it looks like right now Daniels No, Daniels kicks it out to Matthews. Matthews turning around met by a bunch of people. Gets the ball over to >> [cheering] >> 28 Arnold. Arnold with her second goal of the game. It seems like whenever Arnold and Matthews have the ball, that's when that's when Melrose is at their most dangerous. >> Those two have been passing the ball back and forth really good to each other. Seems like that's when most of their scoring opportunities happen. Arnold with her second goal.
And the way we kind of look at that is that's 61 kids that otherw otherwise wouldn't to learn how to swim this year. Um, and so there's a lot of opportunity there. Um, and special events, Kristen mentioned some. We've had several team nights, very well attended. Um, couple of special events with with the kids was at Spice City, the soccer club. Uh, we had 50 60 kids attend that game. Um, couple different special visits. Uh, Rep. Huh, Representative Hayes and Mayor Alves came through. Um, so the kids were excited about that. So, you know, right in the backyard you see um big population of of kids and you know, the families are just so appreciative um and and not just appreciative of the club and and and the opportunity, but I think the um you know, the partnership with the public schools, you know, they know that they're they're being uh afforded the opportunity to get to us every day.

It's a good time. So, do you have anything to add? >> Oops, not really. >> [laughter] >> Do you guys have any questions for us? >> [clears throat] >> Awesome. Sounds >> It was really a good trip. I think you know, just experiencing that with kids, I think it was one of those and you guys came to the banquet you and Tim did and so that was like what they kept repeating was that trip and that's one of those iconic things that you have in high school that, you know, going out with your ag teacher out east is I don't know, it's something that I'll remember forever, but it's a good time. So, we appreciate you guys and you You have questions or you to chaperone, let me know. >> [laughter] >> Thank you. I appreciate you. >> Yeah, thank you. Mr. Wilson, another opportunity for you.
Matthews has two goals. Spartans going to have Matthews and McKechnie on the draw with 8 seconds to go. >> Yeah, I think there's been limited movement on both sides in terms of the attackers. Like similar people staying in the game. I That's how it is round of 32. You got to >> Yeah. >> go with your go with your best players, but >> Absolutely. >> Definitely feel like we've been saying the same same names. >> Yep. MacLeod with a nice one-handed grab. Mac has 5 4 3. Gets the ball up to Parsons. Parsons takes a shot. And McDonald with a nice save as uh buzzer sounds. The Spartans having a 7-5 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Stay tuned, everyone. This is going to be a nail-biter right till the end. >> All right, we're back with our fourth quarter action. >> Spartans holding a 7-5 lead.

My eyes are going on me, so I don't know if I can even read the rest of them, but um, you know, you get the idea.

It's really really good. Maybe you can say get your dad to send it to you and you can say it. >> Okay. I'm not recalling even after my extensive >> whole ticket. Or the seat I don't want I can't take it from Steve. That's his punchline and I love it. Yeah, and I probably wouldn't even say it right. So then I'd mess it up and he'd be like, "You're not even saying it right." >> Well, it's all right. >> McKechnie and Matthews on the draw once again. Matthews trolls gets ball up can who can come up with it? Kylie Marino knocks the all the open space.
This is kids, you know, four months into having a place to go every day and already getting those messages um, is pretty special. Um, so wanted to kind of end with that. And again, just thank you for having us. We're really excited. We'd love for you to stop by uh the clubhouse um any afternoon, particularly around 4:00 to just see it in action. Ball goes out of bounds. Melrose with the ball. Matthews turns around and gets the ball up to Daniels. Daniels gets ball over the restraining line loses it temporarily. And she gets the ball over to Matthews. I don't know. Official asking for 20 more seconds to be off the clock. >> We got Steve chiming in. He says, "We'll save you the whole seat, but you'll only need the edge." >> That's it. >> And he said, "Jeff can use it anytime." >> [laughter] >> That's my buddy Steve. He always comes through. Yeah, that was a great thing when the game was good. Hopefully Hopefully that's all you need is the edge of the seat for the rest of this game. >> Mhm. Mhm. >> 7-5 Spartans up. Melrose working the ball around turns around kicks the ball all the way to the top to Matthews. Matthews finds the wide open Arnold.
So, um, thank you for having us and and any questions, you know, um, you have for us, we're we're we're open here. >> I would just like to ask a question. Is there a fee for the students? >> There is a fee, uh, Glattis. Um, it is essentially for for the full fee, those that have the means to pay, um, it's a, uh, $50 a month, uh, membership. >> Okay. um which is uh you know entitles them to come every single day to the Boys and Girls Club. >> Okay. >> So try you know we we really try to keep it low and affordable. What we found um with summer camp is it's it's it's very for for the population that we're serving right now. Um any fee structure that would be similar to a typical summer boys and even Boys and Girls Club summer camp fee is is is tough, you know.
