So, I I give him a lot of credit, but he comes back, he and Jonathan come back and um they uh report back to the board. Throughout the year, he's keeped us informed on what was happening inside our school from academics to uh activities to athletics to music and so on and so forth. But he's always been wellprepared and a real asset. As board members, we spent a lot of time talking about students, but Lucas reminds us it meant what it meant to hear directly from a student. Next Friday, Lucas will graduate from Canton Canton High School, class of 2026. And like many of his classmates, he's preparing for the next exciting new chapter in his life. And that is going to take him to Bentley University where I know have no doubt he'll be a leader and contribute there. Also, Lucas, thank you for your service, your professionalism, and your commitment to Canton Public Schools.
And last but not least, we have the US Coast Guard logo on here. And that's basically our helicopter. >> Thanks for that interview. Recently, the boys volleyball team held a senior night. They honor the players and the managers of the team who will be graduating with the class of 2026. Let's take a look. >> All right, we're gonna start with the managers. All right, first up, we have a new manager this year. She's running the scoreboard most of the time. Gianna's been in it the entire season and done a great job. So, Giana Hart, come on down. Giana's favorite memory is when I and when coach Wanker myself had to do the book for a day. It was a terrible thing. manager Sammy Zuvo. Sammy has stuck it out the entire season, for the last three seasons. All right. Her best position that she wishes she could play if she played was benchwarmer.
A very special woman who goes by Marge, but Margaret Beisel will be had will have been crossing kids right here outside of CHS for over 50 years. And she's reaching her retirement. So, FIRST OF ALL, CONGRATULATIONS. >> [applause] >> THIS [applause] AWARD IS ESPECIALLY PERSONAL TO ME because I remember being a student here at Clifton High School when my mom would drop me off at Manhattan, and and I would always have to cross. And um you know, you were just so passionate about your duty. And it's something that really goes unnoticed, right? The the amount of kids that you cross every day that you keep safe. Um again, it goes unnoticed, but we're so appreciative to you. Although crossing guards are under the the city, you know, you really protected our students especially. I know when I was part of the Clifton Student Union, we made an effort to every Christmas we give you a nice gift just again really to recognize you for what I think often goes unnoticed.
Anyways, continue on. >> [clears throat] >> President Wade, I don't know if I can speak. Go ahead. Someone else. Okay. So, um, board member, uh, German, I agree with a lot of what you said. I do have a question. Um, because many of the questions that are sent each week are things we've already covered in board meetings or things we've already shared that I have notes on. So, I don't need to know these things. If I'm I'm wondering if you're asking the questions as um because you don't remember the things or as a recollection or if you're trying for the public to remember them. I'm just trying to come from where understand from where you're coming from if that's if it's for the public because we never did this before. um this is a new thing and I wonder how many boards put out their questions like this because I mean if I have a question and it's a simple something that I've forgotten then I don't you know that I can call the superintendent or Christine and just ask her a quick question but I don't know that everybody on the board doesn't remember that from a conversation or from a board meeting.
I've been on the film committee for eight years. We'll be going into my ninth year. I have good connections with people throughout the community. And this coming year is a time when we're going to need that because of the things that are happening with Pelum in the community and the school. Um, >> thank you. Rachel, >> are you able to hear me? It seemed like you weren't. >> Yeah. >> Um, I would be happy to step in as chair or vice chair. Um, my background is really in finances and facilitation and managing a team and my understanding of the chair's role is primarily those three areas. Um, I also think there is a lot of value in having a direct connection to the elementary school, which I have currently and will have for the next 12 years. Um, and I think those are all big pieces of of both being able to do the work and being able to have um buy in and trust from the community.
I'm just going to share my screen. Um if I can see I was just going to go through a little bit of who we are. So it just says introduction. Um and then um we're definitely going to talk about the community baby shower that will be happening in Ashlin. Um so this is Metro West Shared Public Health Services. Ashlin has been part of it since uh the beginning of 2021. Um we are composed of nine communities. I think the town of NIC is a little wed out at the bottom, but um we are um a weirdly shaped figure here in Metro West. Uh but definitely uh the all these towns have worked together in various programs or various grants. Um and this is uh the public health excellence grant uh given by the state. Um so a little bit about who what we're doing. Um, so again, we was established back in 2021 during the CO 19.
In college, I'm going into animal science studies. um where I'll be going into agricultural education teaching and um majoring in animal science, large animal science. Um I'm going to MCC for my first two years and then I'm going to Yukon for the next four to study education. >> Thank you.
You've represented your fellow students with class, integrity, and pride, and this award is better because of your contributions. Please join me in congratulating Lucas Manville. Christmas. >> Great. I also have the pleasure tonight of um welcoming our new board member. Finley Lazard is now our new board member. She's our junior representative and Jonathan moves on to the senior leadership position for next year, Jonathan Ho. So, thank you all. So, you would think one of the best parts about being a board of education member is to go through a budget cycle. >> No, it's it's being here with all of you and seeing all the smiling faces of our children, especially our kids that come from Cherry Brook Primary School. We love seeing you. We love having you. And tonight we are going to celebrate you and all the all that you've accomplished and send you off hopefully to a great summer and then hopefully we'll see you again in the fall.
And uh the thing that's favorite to her for this season was chaotic bus rides. We had a lot of people and we had a lot of travel and it did get chaotic. Our last and final senior manager, Ray Hunter. Let's go, Ray. Ray is also stucking out for most seasons. Ray has been like a key leader. Ray and Sammy have led the managers this year. If you didn't know, we had like 12 managers at the beginning of the season and they have organized all of that. All right. Her favorite memory is her and Sammy being chaotic on the bus. She doesn't love she doesn't hate anything for the season. Um, her advice that she would give is always be ready to duck out of the way when you hear Jude yell, "Had up. Heat. Heat. Now it's time for question of the week. What is your summer job?
Whether it was rain, snow, in the heat, in the cold, you were out there and you've had that incredible lasting impact. So again, just we want to thank you, congratulate you, um and good luck on your next chapter. We have a little gift for you, so you're welcome to come up and let's give her a ROUND OF APPLAUSE. >> [applause] >> FROM THE BOARD OF EDUCATION WITH SINCERE congratulations on your meritorious achievement with recognition by resolution of the Board of Education. The desire to excel is the formula to a lifetime of success. Your efforts have brought distinction to you, your family, and the Clifton Public Schools. One more round of applause. >> [applause] >> I JUST WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE WHO passes I'd like to thank everyone who passes me during the days and when I'm out there and waves and blows their horn and says hi.
Hopefully that all came through and made sense. >> [snorts] >> Um, so I'm going to address a few things. So first, um, you said in my format. It's not in my format. I submit my questions in my format. If anybody submits their questions, it's in their own format. So I don't even understand what you mean by in format. And then as far as open meeting law violation, um, I'd like you to explain to me what your understanding of open meeting law violation is. Can you explain that to me? >> Well, I will rest on >> I'm sorry. I'm talking to me. >> Board members, German. >> Oh, sorry. >> Board members, I I did some background work on this topic. If if you'd like me to jump in. >> Yes, please. That would be delightful. >> Okay. All right. Um, >> well, can I ask can I finish asking my questions before you explain, please?
>> Thank you. All right. So we will we will vote and I guess I will call each person and then I would have to call each person to see who I don't know the best way to say who you vote for and also the easiest one. >> I think the name of the person >> and then let everyone vote. >> No, like Jenny, who do you vote for? >> Thank you. That's how I was. All right. Okay. So, I will start um virtually if I want to make sure I give him the time to speak. Um and so you got the thumbs up. William, who do you vote for? >> Best. >> All right. Um Rachel, who you vote for? >> I vote for myself. >> Okay. You said yourself, right? Cuz it's frozen. Okay. Jenny, who do you vote for? Margaret. Margaret, what do you forg Okay.
Um, and it's really the spirit of the grant is to really um, help municipalities and the health departments increase their capacities. And we'll go over how we're doing that. Um, and this is coming from our report for FY25. We're ending our FY26 at the end of June. And so we will put that new report out and share with Raj who I'm sure will share it with you guys as well. Um this is our team. It's very small right now. Uh we were a little larger. Um I am the shared services coordinator. I am managing the grants and also applying for new grants or looking at new initiatives and programming that we can do to help our Metro West um health departments. We have uh Laney who is our regional community health worker. Uh we have Puja who is our epidemiologist um who also helps uh all our nurses um with Maven which is our disease surveillance.
>> Anybody have any questions for Avery? >> Thanks so much for coming tonight and sharing that with us. >> Best of luck to you. >> Congratulations. You don't believe All right. Who in the judgment of the school facility and or student body best exemplifies the qualities of honor, service, courage, leadership, and patriotism. Throughout the past two years, my students have been working on analyzing different historical events through perspective, historical context, and casualty. During this time, I've watched many students grow academically and personally. However, one student in particular has distinguished herself in remarkable ways. She has developed and honed these skills at an exceptional pace, inspiring others to discuss, contribute, and take risks within our classroom.
So I'm going to turn this over to Dr. Gman and he will introduce uh Principal Hammer. Super. Thank you, Mr. Daniels. It's great to see everyone. I also want to thank this is probably the most staff that I have seen at a board of education meeting and this is the the staff that it gets to school really early and they leave really late. So to see them all here tonight, I definitely want to thank those staff friends. I I promise you, you won't forget the names of those teachers 15 years from now, 20 years from now, 30 years from now, and if you're getting old like me, maybe 50 or six, close to 60 years, you'll remember your teachers. So please make sure tonight that you give your teacher a big thank you. and families, please make sure you give your teachers a big thank you because they probably don't get it enough.
>> Uh my summer job is going to be bed rotting. >> Uh my I'm working on Morris Pier. >> My summer job I work at an aquarium. >> I'm going to be working at Jersey Mike's. >> I work at a marina. >> My summer job is beach tagging. My summer job is dishwashing. >> My summer job is working with aerial banner planes. >> Summer job is beach jagging. >> My summer job is uh first mate acne security. >> I work at a restaurant. >> All right. My summer job is I work landscaping with my dad. >> So my summer job is I work at a flower shop in Karehouse cleaning flowers. I am working at my family's farm stand this summer. >> I'm working as a lifeguard and as an oyster farmer at the same time. >> My summer job as an ice cream scooper at a campground.
And to all the kids, I'm going to miss you the most. And I just want to tell you that Elias was one of my students and so was Mr. Brunziak. >> [laughter] >> From From St. Cyril's many, many, many years ago. >> [laughter] [applause] >> So as you can see, Danny, you're up next and our athletic director, Mr. Malahey, is he here? So for the board members, you will go to the next person and just call them up. We will call We will get it done. >> Good evening and thank you uh to the superintendent, his office, and the board for acknowledging our athletes and their accomplishments. Tonight we're going to acknowledge half of the winter because their meetings were a little bit later than the last meeting in February and our spring all county teams as well, plus our state and national champion cheerleading team.
Um, I mean, you you throw away open meeting law violation, but I'm not sure you even understand what that violation is. Uh, Vice President German, >> point of order. >> You can't call a point of order because you don't like what I'm saying. Um, and as far as extra oversight, uh, it's our job. that that's what our job is is oversight. Um, and I'm not I'm not sure that you even understand what the expectations are um for you to even say that. Uh, but questions are going to be asked and answers are going to be expected. And again, when they are on a consent agenda, we can't discuss consent agenda items at meetings unless they're pulled from consent. We can't pull I I had an I had a question about almost every item on consent. Um I can't pull every item off of consent. Do you understand that?
All right. So, now we're going to go back and vote and narrow this down. We're between Sarah and Margaret cuz they both have two votes and so second round of votes. Um, William, who do you vote for? Service or Margaret? Sorry, I couldn't unmute. Um, I vote for Sarah Bess. >> Thank you, Rachel. >> I vote for Sarah. >> Thanks, Jenny. Margaret. Margaret, >> I will vote for myself. >> Sarah, Sarah, Sarah. Okay. Um, Sarah has three votes and so now I hand the vote over to you Sarah vote. >> Thank you. I will nomin for vice chair. >> Nominate Rachel. >> Rachel, do you accept? >> Yes. And I'll second that because we need a second. Um, I don't want to do this. Okay. Are there any other nominations? Okay. Uh, Williams, how do you vote? >> Yes. >> Rachel, >> yes. >> Sarah, yes.
Uh she can cover. So if your nurse Ann is sick or she's going on vacation um Raj is always able to tap into Puja and Puja can take over um our maven. Well your maven. And then we have Tita who is our regional health communication specialist um and also is a helps me run the U maternal initiative which is new um and we'll go over it a little bit. And then we have two openings right now. We have a part-time um health inspector. Um, a lot of times our health inspectors are regional who uh are able to help with food establishment inspections, pools, just help out with some of the the daily tasks that sometimes can can clog our health departments, too. Um, so they're there and then we have a part-time uh nurse um and that can be utilized for vaccine clinics. Um they can also cover Maven um and also run additional programming like uh blood pressure clinics etc.
