I think they meet once a month. Um and okay so I think we're moving right along and the other um topic we were asked to talk about was social media or to address and I know that member um god why am I just web I'm liking her first member web has like done massive amounts of um investigation into our social media and according to her I'm the only person on Facebook who likes our um posts. She says I'm the only person who ever responds to them and I'm the only one following them. Um so she is concerned about the cost the $3,000. >> So I guess I you know how do we want to handle this? I know that um from the subcommittee for budget and finance, we're concerned about the money invested in something we don't seem to feel like we're getting our money's worth out of.
So I really appreciate your patience. Um we are going to start at CLES with uh Katherine Roberson. Next up, we have Jackie Whiting from Whiskey Middle School. And next up we have Jason Dustaceio. Give it up. Give it UP TO YOU. AND AND I'm going to ask Jason to stay up here for just a moment. Um because not only is Jason our Brookfield High School teacher of the year, but he's also the district-wide teacher of the year. school throughout the state of Connecticut and we're just so honored to have him. He's a fantastic educator among all the other wonderful educators that we have. So, thank you for being uh someone who will represent us well throughout the state. Moving on with our recognitions, uh the board would like to recognize the following staff members of the year throughout the district. For BHS, we have Justin Dennis Davis from W.
if you looked at the market today and to say what is on the market in terms of another asset like this and I'm not speaking specifically about San Jose. I'm talking about the probably the greater you know Silicon Valley uh maybe from Fremont you know and then up the peninsula I can probably you know there's probably just a handful of potential sites that are um on the market coming to market in the near term. Um so I would say it's rare in that aspect >> but in you know there is obviously a lot of you know uh news about school closures and potential opportunities coming up. Um there's I think there's operators who are tracking those opportunities but I think that you know depending on a whole different you know array of items uh it would be hard to say someone's holding out for X Y or Z.
I was here for our live stream crew. The best in New Jersey, possibly the best in the country. They show up, they show up at everything, all or all weather, any day, anytime. So, we really appreciate that. Um, one of the very important pieces of that puzzle is Vinnie. Come on up, Vinnie. I gave you a microphone, but we got to be out of here by 10. All right, we're going to start with our team presentations. We're going to go along with what we've got in the program. I'm going to ask coach Sinku to come up to talk about the football team.
>> So it's I think we can do that as one motion. Is there such a motion? >> So move. >> Second. >> Any further discussion? >> All in favor? >> I please do prepare. Thanks. >> Yeah, 100% we will. Of course. Fantastic. >> And Mr. chair. Uh on a subsequent meeting, we probably need to uh appoint a member of the policy subcommittee. >> Yes. >> I lost my uh >> my uh >> your cohort. Yeah. >> Yeah. I think um >> those are the kind of things we'll talk about probably during summer retreat. >> Yeah. As long as as long as Jim doesn't want to want to meet before. >> No. No. Okay. We're good. >> I don't think Jim wants to do anything except get through the rest of the school year. Everybody else we got a few things. I >> was just going to say I got a few hire a few.
And the zoning board is unique in that this is the comprehensive part of the comprehensive permit, right? They sit in the shoes of every other town board and body and that's all on the zoning board 100%. They're the only entity in town that has the jurisdiction to perform that function. And so in order for them to do it, they get the application and the first thing that happens is the application goes out to everybody. It goes to the departments, it goes to this board, it goes to everybody. Here's what we've got. We're going to need comments. We're going to need feedback. We need to know how to do our jobs. And so I'll just use conservation as an example because in most cases zoning boards aren't particularly equipped to do conservation work or board of health work or a great deal of other things. And so how are they going to know how to do that?
>> So it's I think we can do that as one motion. Is there such a motion? >> So move. >> Second. >> Any further discussion? All in favor? >> I please do better. Thank >> 100% we will. >> Fantastic. >> Mr. chair. Uh on a subsequent meeting, we probably need to uh appoint a member of the policy subcommittee. >> Yes, >> I lost my uh >> my uh >> your cohort. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Those are the kind of things we'll talk about probably during summer retreat. >> Yeah. As long as as long as Jim doesn't want to want to meet before. >> No. No. Okay. We're good. >> I don't think Jim wants to do anything except get through the rest of the school year. Everybody else >> we got a few things to do. >> I was just going to say I have a few hire.
We'll be doing it. We'll solicit three quotes, but we're going to improve the documentation to show you know, Mike He talked about M core. He said, "Yeah, he's like they they were the cheapest." And then it's okay. That's fine, you know, but he didn't use the TRD contract. He just used that as the what it is to to get quotes from others. >> And okay. >> So, just because he didn't get three written or even two were required by the TRD, we met the requirements of three. >> Because you posted >> You don't even need to put on a flyer. You don't even need take close You can pick up a phone call. >> And I'm guessing we document when we do the phone calls. >> Well, I I don't, but honestly, I'm going to say probably not to the level that, you know, some people might like, but I'm going to say it's not even required.
>> But what would we like to see happen from a community engagement perspective? And who do we feel should be responsible for that? Um is the other question. >> Okay. Yeah, that's a tricky question because uh it it can be very difficult to gain traction as uh I any kind of public entity if if you don't have exciting posts that I mean and by exciting I mean controversial you know it's it's so easy for stuff that is you know perfectly interesting and perfectly valid announcements to just get completely ignored on social media. Uh I see this with the publishers that I work with all the time. Very good publishers announcing things about good books and just getting no attention. So it clearly uh the person who's doing the social media um is not giving us bang for our buck. I don't know if anyone would be able to.
We have Lori HASKINS from CLS. WE HAVE DONNA CRANE. AND FROM TSO, WE HAVE Betty Wagner. A very welldeserved recognition for everyone. Thank you all very much. Really appreciate what you do. Student Representative Emily. Good evening, Emily. >> Hi, Emily. So, I'll let you finish first in the moment. See? >> Perfect. Um, first I just want to congratulate um sorry, everyone that received Latin honors today from the class of 2026. We have such an amazing class and I just feel like um they all deserve just another congratulations. And I'd like to give another shout out to teacher of the year um Mr. Dasio. I have him I have him right now for BC calculus and he was the only I actually got through that class. It's a really difficult curriculum, but he really taught it well and he's just an amazing person just to talk to personally um just in terms of just everything.
We can talk I think about just really what's made it to market because a lot of times the schools close but school districts don't necessarily put them out on the market. Correct. Yeah. It's a board prerogative at the end of the day. >> That's right. Uh but yeah, I mean I yeah it'll be it'll be good to be that first market, you know, just to get ourselves out there and uh move quickly because these processes take a long time. We don't want potential u tenants to change their minds that >> Yeah, sure. And I think another thing I would add um from what I've seen, especially with our um ability to get some new tenants recently, is I I think besides looking for available facilities, I think potential tenants are also just looking for a good stable partner. And so that's where I think your uh your district reputation and how you've worked with previous you know tenants um uh your community engagement uh you know just that general stability and and having uh a good relationship.
All right, good evening everyone. I can't do that microphone. I don't want to hear your feedback any longer. All right, so first and foremost, it's so nice to see you guys out here tonight. Tonight, the fact that this night is solely about you is one of those traditions that I'm so glad that we never broke, right? And I'm not always let's do it because that's the way we used to do things. Um there's a lot of coaches in this room who were once in your seats sitting uh sitting sitting here listening to you guys the coaches speak and everybody else. So I'm going to keep it really short. Um the gentlemen that are here tonight, my football guys that uh came tonight are um Thomas Bowman uh Mic. I'm sorry Mrick, I'm not going to do it. I'm just not going to say it. Joseph Demand, Gideon Hussy, Jonath Jonathan Oligerio, Michael Torres, Bruce Valdder, Joel Vera, Chris and Christopher Voy.
We'll get to that in the super report. Uh, next item on the agenda, appoint the superintendent to the board of directors for the accept collaborative. >> Um, I think real quickly, this is something we do every year. Jim along with superintendents, I think it's all superintendents from the other member >> members um continues to serve. We just have to make the annual reappoint.
And that's through communication and outreach. They're going to have to ask for that feedback, receive that feedback, discuss it, vet it, um, and so on and so forth. And that's what the public hearing process is about. The zoning board did in in all of these cases and should in every case um hire outside services, professional services, because um town council is not an expert in civil engineering or storm water design and and usually board members are not either. Uh occasionally you'll have professionals that are are staffing boards and they have a lot of input on those those subjects that are in their sort of uh professional universe as well, but that's that's fairly unusual. and and even if they do have that expertise, well, they're not here in their professional capacity. They're here as a board member. Uh and so peer review is a really big part of that public hearing phase.
We'll get to that in the super report. Uh, next item on the agenda, appoint the superintendent to the board of directors for the except collaborative. >> Um, I think real quickly, this is something we do every year. Jim along with superintendent. I think it's all superintendents from the other member >> members um continues to serve. We just have to make the annual reappoint.
You know, when you're when you read 30B, it says, you need to solicit quotes. How do you choose to soliciting quotes could be pulling up a catalog and you're looking there and saying, I'm going to look at I want to get poster paper. I'm going to go and look at the Staples website. >> to have evidence that you solicited those quotes for somebody? >> There's a level of surety that is provided to an entity as far as if you're an MCPPO certified and holder, you're a CPPO officer, granting authority or, you know, there's that's a level of I want to say trust that I don't get me wrong. >> No, I understand what you're saying. Because the license a person carries, it's assumed that that person will carry out this procedure. Okay. So, what was that Somebody write that down. What What am I looking up?
I mean >> if you look at other districts, you know, you would probably see similar numbers for a lot of those things. Um, which makes me think, you know, uh, that's probably not a great use of money. >> I don't know. Mayor, you have a pretty good social media footprint. You got any advice? >> We do. And they look at >> It's not something that I do though. I know >> Jonathan does it and they do all of the things and the numbers and I would say he has a little gift for making things interesting. >> Okay. >> Um I don't know exactly. He'll take like pictures from things and be like a little animated something or other. Um but >> recycling interesting. >> Oh, he did. I'm telling you I >> we all stopped to watch >> like Jonathan I said you're like the star of stage and screen and I think that was interesting because it was a different um methodology of showing something that was happening in Greenfield and I actually had comments from people I had a private message from somebody you know like wow so um but I don't look at the school ones much I I ask somebody to tell me when there's important things that I should be at like a school card or something.
So I just give him another round of applause. He's so amazing. All right. And so in terms of student updates, so we had field day. It was on Friday, May 22nd. It was so much fun. So many students went. I'd like to say like a good portion of the whole student body went and we all had such a good time. The food was delicious. There was so many games available. Pickle ball gets up were up. All the fields. It was just it was a really fun way just to be kids again. Like I felt like we were back in elementary school and the weather was absolutely beautiful. What? Oh, it did not rain. We were so happy about that. We were really nervous but the weather was very was perfect. And so I'm a part of the CC empowerment board and we had our final presentation on May 27th to try to make schools a better environment for students mental health.
I have found those things also significantly matter. >> Great. Um we can move on to uh Cherrywood Elementary. So the similarities between uh I should say Cherrywood is is very similar to Birwood uh from a a zoning uh and general plan um perspective. Uh the property is a little bit different in size. We've got uh 9.6 6 acres on uncherry wood and uh 44,000 square ft of improvements, 35,000 being permanent and about 8600 being uh portables. And so uh we can go to the next slide. the uh the general plan as I mentioned and the current zoning designation is the exact same as Birchwood uh in terms of and that again relates to uh uh the uses or potential uses for for the property. Uh we can go to the next slide. Uh we do anticipate uh if this property were brought to market uh a shorter um marketing time.
Um, obviously some of them are here, some of them are not here. Not a great season for us. Not very successful, but that is okay. It's not my dare. This is your dare. Um, our MVP, as I said to Mr. Malay, he was still not here yet. I'm sure he'll be here any minute. Um, I met this young man, me from the seventh grade. It was the spring of 21 and we did spring football in uh the city of Clifton cuz we didn't have it in the fall and we thought that'd be really relevant. He was a seventh grader at the time. Really good kid, really good family and I was just hoping that we didn't lose him and we didn't. And fortunately for us, he was a three-year starter, a two-time all all county all league player. And next year, he's taking his talents to Southern Connecticut State University.
