That was an outstanding update. Appreciate that. Like hearing some more good news. So, thank you. All right, we will uh move on to consent agenda. I'm sorry, subcommittee reports. I apologize. I skipped something. Subcommittee reports starting with policy. >> Okay. Uh, okay. So, the policy committee um continued to review the student discipline policy. This policy has been reviewed over the course of the last 18 months and all feedback was taken into consideration. That is on the consent agenda tonight for a final read and adoption. Um, the PP student privacy policy 6162.51. Um, we have gave you guys the definition and that part of the policy that speaks of non-emergency invasive physical exams. That is what will be in powers school for um, parents to check that they are fully informed. It states that parents may opt out. Um, it will also link to the policy so they can read the entire policy and um, it will indicate that anyone with questions can email the superintendent directly or the board.
Uh we also have a recommendation page which is the next steps. And uh for both uh Birchwood and Cherrywood, our recommendation is essentially to take the properties um to market for lease. doesn't necessarily uh mean that the district would be committed to leasing, but essentially uh go out to the market and and understand and explore what the options uh may be. in our uh recommendation for for Piedmont 1376 Piedmont is to explore options related to zoning and and non-commercial uses and uh more or less essentially have the board um provide direction in terms of what what may be possible. >> Thank you so much for the presentation. Um I have a question about the recommendations for birchwood and cherrywood. So, um, we're taking the properties out for lease, but in your process, would you be just kind of gleaning from the greater community like what the demand is or do you want direction from us to say, "Okay, for Cherrywood, like maybe look at these types of things or what does that process look like for you?" >> Yeah.
And we really look to our seniors this year for leadership and you know what was very, you know, we face a lot of adversity. And these two young men really delivered me. They never backed out. They never lost King Lee. All right? They never quit. They constantly rose to the challenge of leading a very young team and when things got tough right they were always there to be a steady presence. Um that is Xavier Runz and Savio our team who always took it took a chance to lead especially the freshman that were on our varsity team. Right. He kindly showed professionalism and somebody going to do great things in the future. They stand up. Next up is indoor track coach West. Thank you. All right. First off, I want to thank um all the coaches for both indoor, outdoor, and cross country. It uh takes an army to do uh to help with this program.
Uh, typically the schools are are just getting done summer camps. Uh, and there's a lot of cleaning, especially if we're looking at uh a building with air conditioning, etc. Uh, which would be Mendes. Um, they're going to be hosting um some of the, you know, extended summer programming. So, would you prefer I move forward with looking at that for a day? >> What has been the cost of of these more conference center? >> It's probably a couple thousand dollars for sure. Yeah. I mean, that's the one thing I was trying to be cognizant of, too. Like I, you know, I I think we can really do a good job in the Mendes where we do our budget stuff >> and I'd prefer that personally. >> That's what I was going to say because I don't think they use the music room much with >> they don't with that.
And so that was part of of the process on this application. Um, and I I don't remember his response specifically, but >> I'll be honest with you, I don't think he gave you a response because I never saw a response. I read one. That's the reason why I'm bringing it up, Madam Chair. I just >> Yeah, >> it it's because it is impactful to this to this whole project and to this whole area. >> So the question was Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt. >> No, that's okay. >> Yeah, I know the question was asked and my memory is that we did get a response. It might it wasn't an updated traffic report. That was not the response. Okay. >> The response was, I think, in an email saying, "Yes, we're aware of that and here's our thoughts." And so I I do think that exists.
Uh, typically the schools are are just getting done summer camps. Uh, and there's a lot of cleaning, especially if we're looking at uh a building with air conditioning, etc. Uh, which would be Mendes. Um, they're going to be hosting um, some of the, you know, extended summer programming. So, would you prefer I move forward with looking at that for a day? >> What has been the cost of of using a more conference center? >> It's probably a couple thousand dollars for sure. Yeah. I think we'd know about it. >> I know. But what are they doing for the people that they because they have a lot of people in and out of their schools if are they just sending people to Springfield? It's a good job for a tech kid is what I'm saying >> to learn to fingerprint. >> Yeah. Okay. Well, I'm I'll sending an email about that and we'll see if we have anything new by the time we meet again >> that >> so that we can get people in there um to help, >> you know. Because you know, we used to have room parents, but I'm sure it's all different. >> Well, even once they do it, don't they go to the police? It goes straight to the police department. >> I don't I have no idea. >> Yeah, because just not anybody it because it's hooked up to the to make sure you haven't committed a crime.
Um, have the superintendent's email address. Uh so I think we've covered all the concerns of all board members. Um and that was also on the agenda for a final grant adoption tonight. These are both legally required uh policies that we are lacking. Um the committee then talked about uh 1312 public complaints. Excuse me. And this was our second discussion in the course of a meeting. Um we looking if there is a need for a bylaw for public complaints because 1312 is u meant to be a way for members of the public or parents. Um so if we wanted it to apply as we spent the last two years sort of dealing with 132s and as we've gone through our experience we've learned that they don't and there's varied there's varied opinions but legally from or the legal opinion is that if we really wanted them to we wanted to have a process for the public to have a complaint against a board of ed member specifically that it should be a bylaw.
So, I think the recommendation is to keep as broad of a net as you can. um because it would be I think that that it would be in the board's best interest to understand what all the options are and then to make decisions from there rather than to have a narrow kind of uh specific outreach to groups. I think that um it's easier to make the decisions when you know the full story. >> Any other comments questions? So as far as cert as as far as the zoning uh goes, I mean the the u the the zoning and things is is there would it with the current zoning uh from the city would would it potentially discourage um prospective tenants from pursuing this or is that doesn't matter? So I think for birchwood and cherrywood um this would essentially be geared towards uses that would be uh conditionally allowed or permitted or with a special use permit in the general plan zoning.
And I also want to thank uh administration Lori who's always uh answering all of my texts um even out on the weekends. I do appreciate it. Uh the girls team for indoor play second in the leagues, third in counties. Uh they did amazing job. The seniors lead by example and they will be sorely missed. Our girls consist of uh Hillary Batista, Rosanna Bogev, Nicole Florian, Michaela Francisco, Kimberly Moreno, uh Alexis Smith, Valaria Valenc. There's a couple others that uh kind of got mixed in with some of the other sports, but I can't tell you how much uh you guys are going to be missed. and our MVP record setting record-breaking first team all county Michaela Francisco >> and on to the boys. Our boys team for indoor consisted of Settle down children settle down. Uh consisted of Thomas Bowman, Lewis Barriststein, Chris Cavania, Edward Cordoa Marrick, I'm not going to try to pronounce your last name.
So that's that's not impacted by that. >> Correct. Okay. So So we will make sure I just want Gretchen to book it through school dude to make sure that we have it booked. >> Okay. Great. >> Just make sure. Perfect. Well, that that air conditioning is on. You're right. Right. Geothermal stuff. So >> that's the one school we count on. >> Need a little cooler. I know a guy. >> Yeah, we know a guy. >> Um >> and then the last thing I want to, you know, just opine on is that um I want to thank the community. Uh I I sent a letter um you know to the community with regard to the override uh in the conversation um uh that there was good healthy debate along the way and I want to respect that and I want to understand uh and and say to the community that that I I do understand that it's a challenge right now for everybody um to incur additional costs uh in taxes to to get our our budget balance to really set us up, I think, for the next three to five years easily, um, in terms of how we approach budgeting.
And so if it didn't um get circulated or or come to your attention, then something went wrong. And that's something >> which is the reason why I bring it up now. >> Thank you. >> Hi, Attorney Winter. Uh thank you so much for uh putting together this memo. I actually found it very helpful. Um but I do have I do have a couple of questions uh based on on what you've talked about tonight and a question and a clarifying question. So um one thing I'm a little confused about is a kind of a procedural issue. So we were talking about basically you know um the process you know if we had the eligibility letter and all the all these things going through you know doing our due diligence for uh for forbes specifically for 1060. I'm just trying to get my head around when in the process ideally we would have been able to bring up that uh issue the the issue with the deed that's restricting residential housing on that property.
So that's that's not impacted by that. Right. >> Okay. So So we will make sure I just want Gretchen to book it through school dude to make sure that we have it booked. >> Okay. Great. >> Just make sure. Well, that that air conditioning is on. You're right. Right. Geothermal stuff. So >> that's the one school we can count on. >> Get a little cooler. I know a guy. >> Yeah, we know a guy. >> And then the last thing I want to, you know, just opine on is that um I want to thank the community. Uh I I sent a letter um you know to the community with regard to the override uh in the conversation um uh that there was good healthy debate along the way and I want to respect that and I want to understand uh and and say to the community that that I I do understand that it's a challenge right now for everybody um to incur additional costs uh in taxes to to get our our budget balance to really set us up, I think, for the next three to five years easily um in terms of how we approach budgeting.
>> Yeah. Okay. >> Okay. All right. >> Alrighty. Um, >> do we have any other topics? >> Let's see. >> We don't want to have anything on the next agenda. >> Um, >> we can't discuss it, but we can make sure it gets on the next agenda. >> So, I think we should put that back on till that's solved. >> Fingerprint >> and um, >> social media. >> That's great. Very good. >> Anything else? >> Um, and I will text you when I hear what that other date is for the summer eats in case anybody wants to be at that. I'll text Mel and she can because we're not all supposed to talk to each other. I'll tell her and then she can tell you. >> I'll try to get dates from Becky for a calendar. >> Okay. >> Um, and like meetings like for the Greenfield Educational Foundation and then we can decide who does what.
So um typically the complaints come through public comment um through email either to the board or the superintendent directly. That is currently how we receive complaints to be considered or feedback to be considered. Um I did some research and shared with the committee at the last meeting that in talking and in talking to um Superintendent Frey there is no precedent for that necessarily. Um I couldn't find a district that had any kind of uh policy like that. I talked to Cade. They don't have any policy um that exists that typically um has a process for a member of the public to specifically have a complaint against a board member. Because we are elected officials, we cannot be removed from our elected position by a board vote. So really what the conversation was around was what is the end result. So one, what would the process look like and two, what would be the desired end result of that bylaw?
Uh so um I guess the question about should we market to a certain specific I guess in that case yes we it would be geared towards uses that are allowed conditionally or uh or permitted by right it wouldn't be you geared towards uses that would not be um allowed there wouldn't be it just wouldn't be fruitful to to market the property that way but in terms of the zoning no I don't think it would discourage the users that I think it actually would be looked at as positive thing that look there is a pathway to put a a faith-based organization here or there is a pathway to put a a non-public school here whatever it may be I that falls in that bucket I think those are essentially those zoning designations or general plan designations throughout the city are rare um and so we we would like to showcase that as actually a positive thing for >> to know okay good to know okay thank the Birwood campus down the street is a community pool.
Uh, Baron Escalot, Carlos Gonzalez, Johan Lavour, Hussein Menas, Liam Oliveres, Anthony Pardo, Eduardo Rinez, Sergio Salazar, Kaden Sasso, Michael Torres, Isaiah Vez, Joel Vera, and Adrien Wilson King who did outdoor as well. The boys the boys record for counties placed fourth in counties, second place in leagues. And our MVP also first team all county all around Joel Vera. Let me get my stuff before I forget. >> Yeah, this one seems completely This one. >> Thanks, coach. Next up, Coach Tenniso hockey. All right. I just want to first start out by uh thanking our board of education for support and also our administration. Like to thank Mr. Mlehey and Lorie for all they do throughout the season. Could not do it without them. Uh this senior group of ice hockey players Uh these guys they they came in when this team first got merged with two other schools.
And Chris and I have had numerous conversations since the override vote. And, um, we feel really comfortable and confident that that what we asked for is the right amount. Uh, the community was, you know, overwhelmingly supportive, 60 plus%. Um, and I want to say thank you. Uh, and I want to recognize that, uh, we are, and Paul, I think you've said we're stewards of not only the the school finances, but the town finances, right? Uh, and we want to make sure that, um, folks here recognize that. Uh, and I recognize that. Um, we have a lot to do over the next month plus and that includes the fields takeover and I haven't even mentioned that within this report and I'm holding that till next till June 10th uh when we meet because uh we want I want to get through this information uh with regard to the override get our committee reorganized uh and then uh get the searches underway.
It seems like that came pretty late in the process and I would think that that might come earlier like maybe as one of the initial things. I'm just speaking personally. I wasn't aware of that until I think we were further along. I'd just like to get an idea of of in so far as those sort of issues where where should that be, you know, when when we're engaging um developers with this? >> No, I I understand your question. It's a good question. So, there's kind of two levels to that. One is just sort of the site control, being aware of, you know, what restrictions exist on the site and whether the developer um has the the control necessary to do a project. And so and then the second part of that is well do we dispute that or do we have any concerns about that?
