Brian German I'm alongside Dave Toller for this one and Dave this is a pretty even matchup if you look at it on paper it really is Brian you look at the record to start with Doherty comes in eight and four overall Liberty of course eight and six very early on and this Colorado Springs Metro League season the Lancers are one - no comment coming off a win over Coronado earlier in the week and you look at the slate there the Lancers ahead in almost every statistical category hitting percentage better at 195 averaging seven aces per game doubling up Doherty in blocks almost nine per game for the Lancers averaging 29 kills per game the digs about the only thing that are even about 39 per game for each team it certainly looks like the Doherty Spartans will have their hands full the Spartans coming in here and they their coach gave us some keys to this game saying that they have to play to the best of their ability but mostly they want to try and be a team a cohesive unit yeah and they will have to do that they've got they're going up against the Liberty team that's got eight seniors they've got great chemistry so both of these teams it should be a great battle tonight yeah and on the Liberty side coach Jamie Adams told us she is really proud of these these eight seniors and that's that's a heavy senior Laden team so you'd expect them to be pretty good and they feel like they will be they got off to a great start earlier in this week they opened up against Coronado a five-set victory for liberty so they are off to a good start in league play we'll see how they do in league teams you want to get off to a great start when you start off to a conference season we talked about that Liberty win on Tuesday night they beat Coronado what a great win that was for Amy Adams in this program prior to that game they had lost five straight games and 10 of the last 11 to Coronado but on Tuesday night they won a five Center went back and forth that was a big conference win for that Liberty team Doherty yet to play in conference but this has been a good series between these two teams they have a long history against each other and if my memory serves me correctly that may be the one and only Liberty win over Coronado in league play was you know outside of league play yes yeah a tournament so that's it that's a great win they've got to be feeling pretty good about themselves Dorothy they've been for a while they haven't played since since last week so we'll see how they react to to have it a little bit of time off a little bit more practice time but not having that game experience since a week ago and just watching the team's warmup I think impressively on the Liberty side definitely watching Karina flora just warm up out there she can sky and hit it hard she can they have got some hitters on this team and when you look at the the stats we'll talk about that a little more throughout the broadcast but the ball was very well distributed among this Liberty team you look at Karina Florence you look at the way that Sasha Elsner has been hitting the ball their leader their leader in kills his Caitlin has a bunch of kills so the game goes on and see how well they can distribute the ball as far as Doherty is concerned just a few of the names Leilani Washington of course her sister went to Penn State is now playing a European volleyball getting paid for it and Leilani Washington that's Haley Washington who's playing pro ball now and it'll be interesting to see to watch her play I haven't seen her play coming from those good bloodlines Haley Washington and all-american at Penn State not just an all-american on the volleyball court was an academic all-american as well was the Colorado Player of the Year 2012 that she led the Dority Spartans for the state title that season and that was back when miss dougherty team they were flying high at one point but since that 2012 season they have yet to have a winning record five straight years while four not counting this one that they haven't had a winning season so they're looking to get back to that that place that they once were before one of the best teams in the state and have a winning season right now yes they do however they have yet to play a conference game there's a good look at Amy Adams Liberty Lancers one last hurrah and we'll get it going here [Music] always interesting when you play that first conference game you know if you bring a different level do you bring it with you and we'll have to see if the Spartans can be ready for that and if the Lancers feel good about themselves here at home in that first conference game well as we talked a little bit in the pregame show about those stats I mean all the stats had favored this Liberty team that kills the blocks the assists that digs everything was in favor of Liberty but they are this season the teams that they played the common opponents they have been dead even both of these teams have beat Vista Ridge this season both have lost two air Academy and the one common opponent they split with Doherty beat Cheyenne Mountain three-to-one Liberty however lost to Cheyenne Mountain three-to-one so if there is a difference in the way the stats slide one way the common opponents the other way Brian I think we're gonna see a great one tonight should be fun Allison wolf one of the two captains on were set up nice tight blocked to the middle and a point for liberty and this time it's the Spartans that want a timeout as the Lancers have taken a 14 to 11 lead there's a good look at Amy Adams the next point it was six to one but since then Liberty's done a great job and again they're moving the ball around Sophie Lewis has been dominant in the middle two kills and one block and then the lot of them and they've just been waiting for the Lancers to get back on top they didn't didn't get there in the third set but they started it starting to get pretty loud here with the Lancers taking the lead here at set number four well they are and we talked about all the kills coming from Luis and look more and everybody up front but the doing a great job in the back girl babbling to keep balls alive until they can get the attack they want so if Luis sends it over mission plays it Hines has to play it over so P Luis is there running on rice to makhmour nice little take play by Caitlin Coronado in five and we're deep into the fourth one right here Andres McDonald flat overpass and yep they're gonna get peachy with the to hit up front trying to keep that one going for her team 1715 tough plays that pass was into the nest she had to go up and get it and tough to make that play while not touching the nip so it goes over to the Spartans Liberty by two Lauren Andrus is back I serve it Donald is there peachie sets it up to fork and I swing on that one Spartans come back Hines who PC Imani got her hand underneath that I hit the floor 1716 hope is just getting it done tonight for far back for Sasha great hit by Ellesmere but it was Erin McDonald there she is in the middle of your screen made a great diving dig to keep that ball alive and it allowed Sasha Elsner on the far side to set up and get that kill timeout Dottie down 20 to 17 there's Amy Adams and can't say enough about the job she's done bringing her team back into this game because they literally had nothing going they were up 12 to 2 and just rolled and like we said it would have been easy to pack it in but coach amy adams her first season with this Liberty Lancer team a great job getting them back into it and we talked about all those those attackers and those killers on the front row but how about the play behind them kita al's they're doing a much better job of returning those serves and we had a good look at one Erin McDonald the senior a diving dig to keep it alive those are the plays that keep runs alive they keep the momentum going they get the crowd back into it the student section for liberty they're into it as well in the lantern up three a good look at Keita Elsner with the serve the senior Elsner sister the sophomore who's backed by Daugherty nice job I hope Hines and that's the way you want to come out of the timeout if you're Aaron stone start with the past great pass great set right up and the kill right through the middle there's McDonald and Elsner both trying to get down to tough spot to be and everything I mean that that ball comes at your quickly point who's gonna be awarded over to Liberty the officials said it was in they're gonna trust your people they're closer to the line yeah right on the corner Ally rice irons handles it now get it back to Hines in the middle blocked it out and Dougherty gets the point 23:19 if your Liberty you got a little bit of a point cushion here you got to get the next two yeah peachy and Lewis were both set up and they got it but it goes out of play he's just served by graves back to Sasha Ellison that one's out you got to be careful you're playing with points now three-point lead for liberty and Amy Adams asked if she had a timeout she does she takes it she's got two left in this set 23:20 Lancers but like I said Davy you really want to you can't let door to come back too much we the more they get back into this game if they tie this up a 23 it's it's a brand new ball game I like what both of these coaches have done with their timeouts and and they have a lot of them to use but boy when you have an opportunity and there's a momentum swing three or four points in in any direction you got to call that timeout you have to stop it well at this point in the game 23 20 Liberty you don't have three or four points to wait when when Dorothy comes out they get the serve they get the point hey we got to take a timeout we got to stop the bleeding a little bit and get a point twenty three twenty you get a side out and all of a sudden it's that point yeah it's it's this is a big match and naturally - I know it's Daugherty's first but if Liberty can win against the team they typically don't want to get to Coronado and then beat Dougherty and be two-and-oh which there you go had a huge service error for jority president for 20 quid at that point to coach amy adams calling that time-out changed the momentum great job and now going back with the serve sasha Elsner the ball in her hand and makhmour back in
