We've had that before. Um, that the students elected a different trade school than Willox. >> Thank you. Just one last comment about alternative pathways. What I heard tonight, our saludiatoran, Andrew Fang, >> is not going right to college. He's going to take a gap year. Going to be doing some work in AI, if I heard that correctly. And >> Colombia. >> Yeah, Colombia. My simple point is just, you know, to just adding to the public discourse that, you know, when I went to Cheshure High and I believe still today, a typical pathway for kids is to graduate and go to college. And there's lots of different pathways that could be right for the kids. I've talked about the trades, the military, a gap year might be what's right for any particular kid. So, I just wanted to highlight that for people. And you could do all sorts of great stuff with a gap year, >> including working on AI.
And of course, the governor must sign by June 30th. One of the biggest whatifs in that is the Prop 98 maneuver. I'm calling it maneuver number two. I think Kevin Gordon might have called it maneuver number two. In governor's January budget proposal, he proposed to underfund the 2526 fiscal year, underfund the Prop 98 minimum guarantee um by close to $6 billion. With the additional revenue flowing into the state, he has recognized the Prop 98 guarantee for 2526 has gone up because of the revenue, but he is still proposing to underfund it by 3.9 billion. Um, and according to Kevin Gordon, as you heard, there may actually be more money in 2526 and 2627 um, as the state works through their budget. Uh, but this is a concern and I would also like to point out that the Senate and assembly in their budget packages both rejected his proposal to underfund Prop 98 in the current year.
And so, I want very much alike, but they're trying to accomplish three very different things. And so, I want very much alike, but they're trying to accomplish three very different things. >> Um so dual enrollment we have no measure of because we've never done dual enrollment. >> Okay. >> Um so there's that. >> Um I think that we've made >> Can you explain dual enrollment for the committee? >> So I guess I should call it concurrent enrollment because that's really what it's called. So dual enrollment would be if our students went to Middle Sex and took courses at Middle Sex during the day. Concurrent enrollment will be students will receive CC but also Middle Sex credit but the course is taught by a CC teacher >> at CC. So you could have kids in I don't know like >> psychology and Katie could be taking it for concurrent enrollment credit and I'm I'm not or vice versa. Um, I think that we right now we have made a lot of progress recently about just getting these marginalized students into honors and AP courses and we've really started with 9th grade.
It might be a little scary, but >> probably salving. >> Yeah. Go, >> cancer or something. >> Anyway, thank you. >> Thank you. Any other comments for Dr. Solen? Questions? >> Um, just a couple questions. This might be a VIN question. I did receive inquiry about what the plan is for that little white house they're using right now for the holding or landing workshop. >> Yeah, that'll be demolished. >> Is the demolition happening before we open or are we reserving that >> for later? Somebody was concerned that if we're demolishing it later, it would obviously impact students coming >> much later. >> I don't have the schedule with me. It will be demolished sometime over the summer. Okay. Will be fully demolished before school begins. I'll just I'll let Jeff know. >> Okay. Thank you. Any way we could outsource the adventure playground to the PTA somehow?
um which means they are they're proposing to allocate those funds out of course to certain programs either funding current programs or coming up with new programs. Um we'll make adjustments here in August and I imagine we will have some material adjustments on the revenue side depending on how the state budget comes together and of course we'll make adjustments on our expenditure side as appropriate. But also in that, I want to point out a couple things that are not in our budget. You may have heard about the proposed significant increase to our special education allocation. They had proposed it up to 999 per student, but the governor proposed, I believe, up to over,300 per student, which is a big increase. We have not included any of that revenue because that revenue really flows to our SULPA and is distributed out based on the SULPA allocation plan.

So, it's hard to say we started 2 or 3 years ago with younger students. It's too it's really hard to just start with your 12th graders and say all of a sudden you're going to take the student is not really setting up a student for success. So I think this is the first year that we actually have a substantial number of students taking it. So it's hard for me to really give that data exactly but I think it's >> yes for sure. >> Um on a on a similar line right the enrollment in upper class courses by 10%. Is that the goal over the next year or few years? I think that that is our goal for next if for this coming year like sort of when kids have registered for courses in a year from now. Okay. >> 10% more than a baseline right now.
>> Vin and I were at Barnum today looking at that playground and looking at the woods and, you know, trying to figure out what we were going to do there. uh Norton because there's so much site work to be done still. >> Yeah. >> It's hard to get a handle on what we want to do there. But we, you know, certainly the um boy boy scouts um I've had conversations with them before the um schools were even built about what role they could have in that end. >> I just figured there's going to be an expenditure. Yeah. So hopefully the community can kind of support us in that respect especially our friends at CF you know >> looking at you Heather. >> Thank you. Um looks like there are no old business unless any board members have old business. No. Um next item is new business.
So as that hashes out and becomes more clear in the fall, we will certainly adjust as appropriate in working with the SULPA and how that's going to be allocated to the member districts. So that's something that's not in the budget currently. So that will work in our favor in theory because that's going to have more revenue will come in to support our special education program which will then reduce our contribution to the special ed program which will then actually it reduces the expenditures on the unrestricted side of the budget which then would possibly allow us to enhance our ending fund balance a little bit. Again, more to come on that when that gets hashed out with the SLPA. One thing that is not in our budget on the expenditure side are any expenditures related to paid pregnancy disability leave. Um, we need to mine a little data, look back over years, see what our trend has been and really kind of take a look at what that may cost us.

>> 10% more than now. Yeah. >> Let's just ask questions of a few more asking. >> But didn't you also have students that opted to enroll in some of your English electives versus like AP English? So you can have the goal, but some they might say, "Gee, I really want to take, I don't know, I'll make it up French literature instead of taking AP L and so that's going to happen, right? But you can still take it for honors credit." Okay. >> Yeah. And there's so many I mean, I'm sure you've seen the course catalog. There's so many amazing courses for students to choose. So, so it's really about, you know, preference and what they want to study and what they want to spend their time on. >> And I had somebody ask me like literally today, they're like, "Well, does it matter if you take AP or honors?
You know I think Mr. cola or dodge this one. But typically, you know, we initiate new members by having them give us kind of a rundown on how their first year went. >> Um, but thank you. >> Only since December. Were you just kidding? Is that what you just said? >> It was great. I loved it. All of it was not a full year. Just a little bit of time. It was awesome. Thank you. It was wild because of the redistricting and then right into budget and so I don't know if that's normal but that was that was a lot >> I think but really thank you to all for um supporting me as I figure stuff out and transition into this role and then you know learn from teachers all the people I've talked to and then but you guys have been fantastic and helping me figure it out.
And that's just not something we were able to do yet. But that's something that we will do in the fall and of course bring that back as an adjustment on the expenditure side depending on how the state determines that how they're going to fund the paid pregnancy disability leave program.

like is there any difference? Like and people always worry about what colleges think of taking AP class versus an honors class and I was like personally I'm like it doesn't really matter like like take what you want to take and take what you're prepared for. >> Yeah. I think it's all about fit for a student and thinking about like their their balance as a whole and their course load as a whole and what makes sense for them especially in their junior and senior years >> when they have more flexibility to choose classes that they want to be in. Um, I did have a question. I noticed um it said um grade 6 to 12 department chairs meeting to to collaborate. Um, and you probably know where I'm going with this. Where are the opportunities um for for Carlile if any? >> Yeah. So, we did so we've done this this year as well.
So thank you. Thank you, Miss Fitzgerald, for your insight. >> Um, I do not have any comments except for congratulations. Thank you for a very short but great year again, Dr. Solen >> and crew. It's I thought we have more time, but we don't. We really don't. So, um, on to graduation and and upcoming meeting dates. So, we do have uh the Monday we have a curriculum meeting still for 7 o'clock at Human and I think we need to add June 29th, Carol, to this calendar because >> unless this is a typo because I thought our meeting was on the >> Yes. So, we have the a personnel committee meeting of the whole on the 29th of June. We had originally been looking at that date as a potential date for a retreat. Um, however, you know, we decided to just hold basically what amounts to my evaluation meeting that night.
Before I switch out of my slide deck and go to the questions that trustee Longshore submitted, um any questions on any of the slides for clarification? Yes, I was sorry. Uh I was looking it's on page 14. I don't know which slide it was, but it was 2026 27 budget assumptions, expenditures. Uh, it's not really a question. I just um was really excited to see us getting closer to 5%. And I was really happy to see, and I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but we're only one um point uh 1,360,000 um $867 away from making our 5%. So, thank you for all your hard work with that and I appreciate it. >> Yeah. And again, depending on how the revenue picture pans out with that special education revenue, we may be able to enhance that ending fund balance a little more. >> I was really happy to see that.

>> It's uh Carlilele has absolutely been included. they don't have maybe it's less a department chair but there's certainly like a liaison from carile that they've been included >> in the discussions um >> so I think our goal is just to we started it this year and how I think we maybe did two or three >> our chairs love it they love you know streamlining and talking about the you know the vertical alignment so that's been exciting >> for sure >> so I think we're just looking to expand on that and just at least have it happen once a quarter. >> No, that's great. And especially as we're finishing our strategic plan where vertical and horizontal alignment from preK to 8 is going to be something we start on next year. >> Yeah, >> I think just great to hear. >> Did you go back to the dual?
