And the ED code is very clear that if you work in a day, whether it's an hour as a manager or a 4 hours or 12 hours, it is a day of compensation. And so on those board meeting nights where after midnight we leave this district office, we have just done a day of work and literally they don't have to come to work the next day. But that is not how anybody has operated. They show up every day and um they take whatever the criticism is, factual or not. um most most of the time not. And um I I just I'm I'm going to start speaking up publicly about the things that are made as assumptions and continue to be wrongly stated. So, um again, you have a group of longtime managers in this district and if that is not valued, um that's fine. Um but you won't find uh more committed people than you have sitting at our school sites in our departments and here at this district office sitting at this dis not for what they're being paid.
Uh, board members, you know, three days to digest all that and ask questions like, giving? Uh, board members, you know, three days to digest all that and ask questions like, we're just not. We're not paying know, three days to digest all that and ask questions like, we're just not. We're not paying know, three days to digest all that and ask questions like, we're just not. We're not paying attention to reality. Um, and that and ask questions like, we're just not. We're not paying attention to reality. Um, and that and ask questions like, we're just not. We're not paying attention to reality. Um, and so, the first and most we're just not. We're not paying attention to reality. Um, and so, the first and most we're just not. We're not paying attention to reality. Um, and so, the first and most important strategy in this is attention to reality.
you know each other so well and sometimes you can see each other's superpowers better than even your own. So I'm curious if there are things you admire about one another uh or their schools or how they operate that um you wish you could absorb. >> I can start >> please. >> Um great question. >> I think there's so many things that I could say. I feel like I learned so much from well even sitting here I was like oh office hours for my mental health staff like that that's a really great idea. Um, but I think in terms of the like leadership style or like uh I think Matt is a phenomenal storyteller and I think that's really important in this role and um you know I I think that's that's something that um I would aspire to a little more detail oriented and like get it done and obviously I took my two points and spoke to them and they followed >> I follow I follow really good at following directions.
So um I'll just leave it at that. So um again no cabinet has not had a raise. Um, so I just want to answer real quick, all of our employees are valued. Um, I cannot emphasize enough how much we appreciate all the work you do. Um, every single person that makes this district go, um, from the bottom of my heart, I get it. Being in education, it's a tough job. So, thank you for the work you do. You are valued. Um, I just want to give some reference to the idea of the fact that we are overspending and >> I thought we were voting. >> We were Oh, I'm sorry. She had a chance to talk. Could I have a chance to talk? >> Is that Yes. Is it about that? Is it about this item? >> Absolutely. >> Okay. Um, and so, you know, as far as overspending goes and looking to make cuts, that's an area that I offered up.
Um, and so, the first and most important strategy in this is attention to reality. Um, and so, the first and most important strategy in this is make sure that there's enough so, the first and most important strategy in this is make sure that there's enough so, the first and most important strategy in this is make sure that there's enough time, time right now. How far important strategy in this is make sure that there's enough time, time right now. How far important strategy in this is make sure that there's enough time, time right now. How far meetings do you get your make sure that there's enough time, time right now. How far meetings do you get your make sure that there's enough time, time right now. How far meetings do you get your materials? These seven days. time, time right now. How far meetings do you get your materials?
know what they need to like it. >> But but I think like the storytelling aspect is actually really important in this job and um it's something it's something that I really appreciate and will miss even if it's late and you talk for a long time. >> It's a great question, Drew, and about each of them. I sometimes go from A to B without Laurest sometimes without thinking about all the things in between. Um, and Naomi is great about slowing down and asking all of the important questions in the moment. It's like sometimes, come on, come on, come on. But in the end, >> in the end, it it >> oh boy, >> someone the plan is always better off. The students are always better off as a result of your thoughtfulness. >> Um, and uh and and Matt coming in. um has been such a a tremendous mentor uh every classroom every day.
Um, because in my research and my numbers, it looked like an area that we could look to scale back. That's not communicating value to somebody. That's communicating us being good stewards of our finances. Um, if somebody else has ideas for cuts, feel free to bring those forward. I hope this can be a continued discussion. Um, where I sit as a board member, I am last. I'm a public servant. Um, I stepped up to do this job. As long as, uh, any of our employees are not getting a raise, I will not be voting for a raise. And so, my vote would be no. >> Mr. Ali, I >> Mrs. Tucker, >> I. And Mrs. Buchanan and I. Number four, approve the tenative agreement between Apple Valley Unified School District and the Apple Valley Unified Teachers Association dated May 15, 2026. I'll move it. Second.
These seven days. time, time right now. How far meetings do you get your materials? These seven days. We get. get, so you get the monitoring report two weeks in advance. A week to give questions, and then you get your questions back A week to give questions, and then you get your questions back A week to give questions, and then you get your questions back a few days before the minute. So, the questions and the answers do get posted to the public agenda. So, the answer. So, the questions and the answers do get posted to the public agenda.
>> Um I would echo, you know, uh what I admire um most about Naomi is her humanity. um that um in a complex uh world with lots of needs, she always sees the student and then will will develop an an action plan that is so thoughtful uh with deliverables that she stakes to right and has great success. >> It's a really really nice question. Um, and then Justin is um the just the lifeblood of the school. When you're with him in the building, uh, the staff brighten when he arrives. The kids all know him. Um, he knows the curriculum in and out. Um, he has an effervescence and a positivity that is second to none. So, um, you know, we I think we probably complimented each other and I'm quite confident that, um, Stephanie will jump right in and just be such a great new member of this team.
Any discussion? Okay, we'll take the vote via roll call. Mrs. Longore, I. >> Mr. Raleigh, >> I. >> Mrs. Tucker >> I >> and I vote I number five approve the recommendation of the administrative hearing chairperson effective immediately on hold on I'm sorry I ran out of highlighted uh approve so approving the recommendation of the administrative hearing chairperson effective immediately on AR number 20 2025-26 and AR number 21 2025-26. Um, that will this team will continue to thrive with Stephanie's inclusion as we we say to a great question before and I should have whenever we interview for someone we always say who will make us better >> who will make us better. So to replace me, right, doesn't make the district better. It's to see who where my gaps are and what we need more of. And in Stephanie, now you have someone who fills my gaps and makes this team better. So I'm really excited for her to come and we look forward to uh finishing out the year very strongly. But thanks for your question, T. >> Thank you. >> Yeah, just I will finish it up by saying thank you so much for coming. We really love having you. This is my favorite meeting of the year. Um because we get to see you interact with each other and you know I've been around for a long time and the schools were not always this um cohesive at the elementary level and it was like oh buy a house at this school because your kid will learn to read at this school.
>> Any discussion? We'll take the vote via roll call. Mrs. Longshore. >> I. >> Mr. Raleigh. >> Hi. >> Mrs. Tucker. >> I. >> Uh, Miss Buchanan. I. Number six, adopt resolution 2526-23 and make spending determinations with respect to monies received from the education protection account. I'll move it. >> Second.

What are all the different questions of asked and where responses so? I would. Water on rare occasionally. Honestly, that sometimes the answers, no, no? Now you telling yourself. Um. And we have, like, seven days. Time you get the don't get sent that to ask questions. And we have, like, seven days.
That is no longer the case. So I really appreciate um the collaboration between the three schools and then even you know prek to 12 like watching all of that and the leadership team. I mean, this is something that it's a bird's eye view into our schools every single day. We wish you the best of luck with Teddy, Matt. Congratulations. Enjoy retirement. We welcome Stephanie. >> Thank you, Justin. Naomi, it's really great. >> Thanks, Tracy. >> Thank you all. >> All right. Um, moving on. So, we've got five more things that we want to talk through tonight. So, >> exact session. We got three and a half hours. >> Um, handbook. >> Yeah, I think we can do this at a high level because there's not that many changes. Um, I was going to project, but thank you. Take care. Thanks, guys. Thank you. >> The only thing I'd ask you, and we're not voting tonight, so you have time to look at it.
>> Any discussion? >> Miss Buchanan, uh I I want to apologize this morning. I did notice a typo in the background. It does not affect the uh supporting documents, the resolution or the estimated deposits. The last sentence mentions attached as resolution and a list of the proposed spending determinations for the EPA revenue for the 2526 fiscal year. That should state the 2627 fiscal year. I apologize for that typo, but again, the attachments are correct and the the resolution is correct. Thank you. Is there any other discussion? We'll be taking a vote via roll call. Mrs. Longshore. >> I. >> Mr. Raleigh. >> Hi. >> Mrs. Tucker. >> I. >> And Mrs. Buchanan. I. >> Consent agenda. It's recommended that the board of trustees consider approving a number of agenda items as a consent list. Consent items are routine in nature and can be enacted in one motion without further discussion.
Time you get the don't get sent that to ask questions. And we have, like, seven days. Time you get the report to submit our question? questions. And we have, like, seven days. We tried to really call out what was different logistical stuff that is clear. Um, we have to align the policies that are in here, the ones that are in here that are changing with the DOJ piece next week. So those are just partnered up. And then really the piece to look at is the AI piece which Shelley gets all credit for and the the committee she's been working with that we really wanted some breath and depth to at least a starting point for AI which I don't think I need to go through tonight but um you could see that's one of our major areas of change this coming year. >> Will we be having a sort of in-depth discussion on the changes at our second read or you do that now? Um, were there particular ones that you want to have a in-depth conversation about?
This procedure conserves meeting time for a full discussion of significant issues. Consent items to be approved in one motion 1 through 35. Can I get a motion? >> You could tell it was a busy week last week. It's 28. >> 28. >> Yep. I see it now. >> So moved. >> All right. I'll second. >> All right. We'll go ahead and take the vote via roll call. Mrs. Longshore. >> I. >> Mr. Raleigh. >> Hi. >> Mrs. Tucker. >> I. >> And I vote I. All right. Um, are there any other board comments? Mrs. Longshore? >> No. Okay. Mr. Raleigh, >> no. >> Mrs. Tucker, >> no. >> And I have none. Superintendent Nelson. No. Okay. Um, item M. Closing items. Future items. Do any members of the board have any future items? I do. I would like us to consider adopting a resolution. We all received an email um I think it was last week from CSBA asking us just to support their uh campaign for the SOS for student achievement.
