and gentlemen i am pleased to introduce you to liberty's class of 2021 valedictorian amanda clark before amanda gives her valedictorian address i'd like to tell you a little about her amanda is also a district 20 lifer spending her education career at ranch creek elementary school timberview middle school and finishing at liberty amanda is a member of the national honor society and latin club and is also on the sween swim team for the lancer nation outside of school amanda serves as a math tutor in the fall amanda will attend florida state university and plans to major in mathematics she has future aspirations of being a pilot like her father amanda in recognition of your valiant efforts at liberty high school i hereby award you with this valedictorian medal all right here's amanda clarke hello lancers i am appreciative of the opportunity to speak to the class of 2021 and i would like to start out by thanking three teachers who have been especially helpful to me throughout my years in high school miss alicio who is an exceptional math teacher and always goes above and beyond to help her students mr croaker who helped me to greatly improve my essays and do a lot better than i expected to on the ap lang exam and miss weber who was an amazing science teacher and helped me to get through and understand ap chemistry i am thankful that i was in your classes and i would not have traded this high school experience for anything throughout our time in high school we have been taught many important lessons by our teachers friends families along with through playing sports and participating in clubs whether you learned how to work with a team how to study productively how to get projects done at 3am or any other skills you might have picked up these lessons have helped to shape us into the people we are today and they will continue to be valuable to us as we've moved forward after today we will all be going our separate ways many of us will go to college others will go to trade school some of us will go right into getting jobs or joining the military and some are unsure of what they want to do i know most of us do not know where we will be in five years which is a bit scary but also kind of cool as eleanor roosevelt said if life were predictable it would cease to be life and be without flavor it is exciting to know that there are many career opportunities that we could choose from and that we still have time to figure out what we want to do with our lives i wish everyone good luck and although it is a bit scary and exciting to think about i cannot wait to see where everyone is 10 years from now at our class reunion in 2031.

this resulted in an additional 14 million dollar annually to the school district gregory joined the academy district 20 staff in 1991 as a middle school math teacher at challenger middle school shortly after he transferred to rampart high school where he served for 11 years as a math teacher math department co-chair football coach softball coach baseball coach and finally as the rhs assistant principal and athletic director for four of those 11 years gregory earned his master's degree in educational leadership and his principal licensure from the university of colorado springs he earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics and his secondary school degree licensure from the university of southern colorado he is a member and actively participates in the colorado association of school executives association of school business officials international colorado association of school business officials pikes peak school business officials national association of federally impacted schools board of directors for nafis federal lands impacted association pikes peak area educational alliance and national interscholastic we would like to thank mr gregory for all that he has done from rampart high school students and staff mr gregory thank you mitchell i don't know who that guy is but that's not me i'd like to take just a few minutes to introduce to you the elected volunteers of our school board starting with president miss karen reynolds vice president mr doug lundberg treasurer mr tom lavallee director mrs heather cloninger and board liaison to rampart high school and proud rampart dad mr will tembe not with us today is the united our liaison from the united states united states air force academy to the board colonel andre johnson and lastly i'll speak a little bit about this gentleman a little bit later but i want everybody to know assistant superintendent dr jim smith thank you mr alvarez thank you at this time i'd like to introduce you to the rampart administrative team you know these folks back here mrs tracy cormany assistant principal mr chamberlain assistant principal miss dear dramastica assistant principal and fresh off a championship win in the state in volleyball mr andy parks assistant principal and athletic director i gotta hold on to these papers this ceremony is over so um before i start i i would just like to say it is one of the pleasures of my life to be on this stage with these folks these students these leaders and to be principal of rampart high school the best best high school in the state of colorado students think of the stories you will be able to tell your kids about yuri's senior year of high school i once spent 12 hours straight on ms teams has replaced i had to walk to school in the snow as the official measure of educational hardship stories are powerful they are teaching tools and they serve a multitude of purposes but maybe most importantly they are key to our survival as a species one of my favorite native american stories is about an old cherokee teaching his grandson about life he says to his grandson a fight is going on inside of me it is a terrible fight and is between two wolves one is evil he is anger envy regret greed arrogance self-pity resentment lies superiority and ego he continued the other is good he is joy peace love hope humility kindness empathy truth compassion and faith the same fight is going on in you he says to his grandson and inside of every other person on this planet the grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather which wolf will win the old cherokee simply replied the one you feed the temptation this past year to feed the evil wolf strong the pandemic racial unrest socioeconomic challenges political differences and medical disagreements tested and continued to test us as a nation and a people we watched cities burned the capital breached restaurants and businesses closed questioned faxed and we argued over masks what cleaning protocols would keep us safe and how much distance we needed between each other the healthy debates and protests that have always defined us as a nation dissolved into contempt and hate on a level not seen in our lifetimes making the pain caused by the daily county public health dial update all the worse uncertainty ruled the day as we started the year with virtual assemblies hybrid classroom synchronous learning all online educational options and cancellation of most sports and extracurricular events a smorgasbord of non-human interaction followed that felt wonky at best even for an introvert like myself trying to sustain the spirit of our school community was hard at times it was a smoldering ember under a pile of ash but if you looked close enough it was there it never went away by the time november rolled around i had turned into a professional crier eating bon bons on my couch watching netflix and to combat the melancholy i turned to music friday night pool games at mrs alvarez and a lot of long conversations and adventures out in nature with steve my black lab the things served these things served as an elixir to wash away the reality of the times when i was able to disconnect from ms teams social media the internet and cable news i could pretend for a fleeting moment that things were normal but those things in those times were rare one thing that did not change during my year was my sunday phone call my mother the sunday call usually starts with her asking me if i went to church it's her way of gauging my level of vulnerability in the conversation to come see my mom is straight old school and she don't play however during the pandemic she's been trying to live her new life new school the best that she can she thinks mark zuckerberg is one of her facebook friends doing a zoom call with her is like an snl comedy skit and she started texting me which i really wish that she hadn't because her meme game is not strong and is super awkward sometimes my mom is from a different time a different generation she has a different type of moxie attained by living through struggles that test the human condition in ways i never understood i asked her sometimes to tell me stories about her life some of them lead to long deep laughter some will lead to new small details previously left out like the fact that she has a goat named stella others will leave you unable to look her in the eye because the tears may never stop because the story is so sad sunday she called and didn't immediately ask me if i'd been to church she was stoic in all business the purpose of her call was let me know that she lost her last living sister my last living aunt zia victoria dakova 19.

as few restrictions as possible dr smith and mrs back on behalf of the district 20 community thank you for making this day of celebration possible since miss back did not do this i will do it for her she recognized retirees earlier miss back is also graduating with the class of 2021 after a long career all spent in district 20 she is leaving with you and we want to say thank you miss back for your participating on my student advisory council this past year lena not only did you represent the pine creek high school student voice with honor and pride your perspective regarding many topics such as the effectiveness effectiveness of our website online learning covet frustrations equity and inclusion graduation ceremonies and many other topics was valued and constructive thank you lena well class of 2021 congratulations you've made it you navigated some of the most difficult circumstances faced by students in decades you sacrificed the end of your junior year and continued that sacrifice through your senior year and your senior year has been like no other remote learning in-person learning online learning and hybrid learning that's a lot of learning and all that learning include a host of new norms such as mask breaks cohorting social distancing quarantines hand sanitizer more quarantines more hand sanitizer and more quarantines you endured shortened athletic seasons online concert and employees outdoor proms numerous cancellations [Music] and dare i say it not one single snow day this was not all your senior year was by was marked by some of the most contentious social and political events in history your senior year has been one of historical proportions you made history in 10 20 and even 50 years students and teachers will read about your journey in history classes but through it all you persevered you were patient flexible and you showed grit in short you demonstrated resilience resilience is described as the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties or the ability of a substance or object to spring back into shape or simply put being elastic resilience is now a part of your dna and frankly that is a good thing because resilience is a characteristic you will need to lean on throughout your life i wish i could tell you things will get easier and resilience is a trait only needed in 2020 and 2021 but the truth is whether through your job education or your relationships you will face challenges you overcame the challenges of your senior year and you will continue to overcome future challenges because you are adaptable you are persistent you are resilient and you are creative problem solvers an article in the journal in the journal of medical science from 2016 states resilience is an individual's ability to adaptively respond to hardship stress and adversity it is the ability to bounce back that describes each of you that same article also reads individuals who report high levels of resilience typically portray an optimistic outlook positive emotionality curiosity and openness to new experiences they are able to emerge from a challenge stronger wiser and more powerful resilience correlates strongly with success interpersonal satisfaction happiness and hope as you leave here today prepare to make your mark on this world i ask that you use the events of the last 16 months to propel you forward no matter how much the world tries to hold you back challenge you or knock you down always continue with the belief that what you want to achieve is possible don't lose hope stay confident believe in the possibilities channel your curiosity seek solutions to problems that others can't see you can find your hope through many means hope can arise from simply taking in new information or gaining new knowledge sometimes it may be just the smile of a trusted friend the friend who trusts in you or in your ability to find a creative solution to a new problem as described in the story of the lone shark and the daughter the story goes in a small italian town many years ago a small business owner owed a large sum of money to a loan shark the long shark was an old rough looking guy that just so happened to fancy the business owner's daughter the loan shark offered the businessman a deal that would dissolve the business man's debt however there was a catch the catch was that he would only forgive the debt if he could marry the businessman's daughter needless to say this proposal was met with disgust but as the story goes the loan shark proposed that he would place two pebbles into a bag one white and one red the daughter would then have to reach into the bag and pick a pebble if the pebble was red the debt would be forgiven and the loan shark would have to marry would get to marry the daughter if the stone selective was white the debt would still be forgiven but the daughter would not marry the loan shark so standing on a path strewn with red and white pebbles in the businessman's garden the loan shark bent over and picked up two pebbles as he was picking them up the daughter noticed that he'd pick up two red pebbles and placed them both into the bag he then asked the daughter to reach in the bag and pick one naturally the daughter had three choices as to what she could do one refused to pick a pebble from the bag which would not help her father two take both pebbles out of the bag and expose the loan shark for a cheater which also would not help her father or three pick a pebble from the bag full well knowing it was gonna be red and sacrifice herself for her father's financial freedom so she reluctantly drew a pebble from the bag and before the color was discovered she appeared to accidentally drop it to the ground undetectable amid the other pebbles she had quickly engineered a fourth option after a short pause she said to the loan shark oh how clumsy of me but if you look into the bag the pebble that is left you will be able to tell which pebble i dropped the pebble left in the bag is obviously red and knowing the loan shark didn't want to be exposed he had to play along as if the pebble the daughter dropped was white her father's debt was cleared and a loan shark defeated her creative solution saved the situation in an instant the father and daughter went from feeling hopeless to feeling hopeful as a result of a short moment in time when she saw solutions others did not as martin luther king jr stated we must accept finite disappointment but never lose infinite hope you are graduating today from a great school in a fabulous district in a terrific community in a wonderful state in the greatest country in the world you have every reason to be hopeful and optimistic as you reflect and celebrate on your time in high school we've already spoken with the weather folks and they said it's going to be a nice cool delta brief day so we'll be fine but along with that we're also doing a backpack drive so the idea is get as much of a community out get families um backpacks whatever materials they may need for school but also they're partnering with some different places like one for example is through a local clinic where families who maybe can't get to the doctor to get some immunizations to start school they can come here get connected uh with that so anything doing with coming back to school this fair is going to try to help so we have partners in the local neighborhood already like schwab dragon tea cafe firestone a whole bunch of smud a lot of people are coming out to help us out so um more to come i'll hand you a copy of this on on your way out um the other is i wanted to start by didn't forget but i couldn't find a place to interject this but just acknowledge that the board did tonight approve the appointment of uh miss erica holmstead as the principal of spinelli elementary and so welcome and congratulations to erica and then also another i know there are a lot of transitions in there but also just to say mr barassi's transition to replace mr jackson uh i'm looking forward i actually just sent him a text saying sorry we forgot to mention it early but i want to make sure that we acknowledge those two transitions for administrative staff the end of the year activities are are coming i cannot believe we're a week away from the graduations and just hoping that everyone remains safe uh dr lee to your point i just want to reiterate the kova test we do have a family a family needs them stop buying in our offices see mr jordan we have some extra take homes and then also just to to think positively we do have some staff members who are currently suffering from covet so any thoughts of hope and health will go a long way with them so it is it is alive and well and it's impacting us still on a smaller scale but still as dramatic for the individual families that are going through that um appreciations for our district advisory council and district english language arts council was able to attend both those meetings and and see and obviously we want to keep getting more and more families involved but it's nice to see our folks as part of that and then uh finally uh i wanted to share i got this email yesterday and i printed out right away an acknowledgement for uh central high school uh pltw is project lead the way we've been involved with this for quite some time now uh mr clatt who has been involved with it probably since the beginning might have brought it i know he was a master teacher correct probably the way but it says dear ben we're excited and privileged to recognize your school center high school as a 21 22 project lead the way distinguished high school wow so congratulations to them for that i know uh them and uh mr clatt and scalloway and i know others are involved with that so i thank them for their efforts to bring that about it's a lot of work but it's a great great program for for our students and does bring some great recognition for that program along with with other programs so with that i just tell everyone be safe graduation time summer's coming up let's hang in there okay no way they putting my gender weight loss back to where it was um okay dance planning um future meeting dates we have a meeting coming up on june 8th at 6 00 p.m and our regular meeting june 15th at 6 00 pm um i do not believe that i will be attending the june 15th meeting um but i will be here for the june 8th so june 8th and what was the second date june 15th so just procedurally just for the board of others obviously i think i share with you we'll have an extended closed session at the june 8 meeting we'll make sure that materials are provided and then also we just keep that meeting specifically for our public hearing on our budget and our lcap so typically we spend some time going through that so we'll have so it's an abbreviated meeting it'll probably end up being the same amount of times we've spent here a lot of questions okay are there any other suggested agenda items for any of our upcoming meetings okay so with that uh there was no continuation of closed session tonight so do i have a motion for adjournment i will motion to adjourn trustee kelly hi trustee lee hi hi jose anderson she said no

combined okay yes okay thank you i already knew the answer so okay so uh cuta and a tentative agreement okay so we're in our seventh year of um interest-based bargaining which have been very successful where we're just completing our first year of our second three year agreement on wage and benefits which are not included in this tentative agreement so i sent to the board over a week ago a copy of the tentative agreement with all of the talking points which was fairly complete so unless you have specific questions in addition to those um i'm recommending approval of the tentative agreement with cota they they approved it with their membership last week with over 98 percent voting for in favor of any questions i was gonna have a question just to comment that that's a lot of good work yeah i was gonna see if kevin had a comment but i can't because i can't see if he's here [Laughter] he's not here that tells me that everything's fine on their end so yeah he knew it was coming obviously tonight before the board yeah okay um i'm i move approval of the tentative agreement with cuta do we have no public comment we can ask for public comment sure thank you yeah public comment all right not yet no it's only only on this topic all right so i have a motion i'll second that a second any questions or discussions by the board all right with that robinson i landed i kaiser i don't be a all right five to nothing okay all right so with that we're moving to um are we at the first reading of the board policies correct oh my god okay so um just as a informational thing these are typically legal changes uh that are brought to us by the state and so and we don't normally we can certainly take questions or discussions about any of them but we don't normally vote on them when we first get them i've read them all and there were some that i thought were very interesting but does anybody have a particular question or discussion item on these dr kaiser i feel the same way you'd i've read them all and and some are obvious responses to things that we've needed to respond to over the last few years that have become critical in the way of updating so that we are compliant i did have a couple of questions and i have submitted them to administration through superintendents daily i'll wait for those responses before deciding whether or not i want to suggest changes at the next meeting and one of them that question of what does this mean there must have been a mental block or something but i read and re-read and read that statement again and so when you find that one please forgive me for but that's why we're here we will explain yep anybody else have a particular clarification they would like again we won't vote on them tonight we will be voting on them at our next meeting you'll note that the preschool early childhood education and transitional kindergarten are both yeah included in this it was on those provisions that i had that what does that mean a question yes so as dr kaiser mentioned much of these updates are a result of either court cases or changes in legislation so if you have questions by all means reach out and if you have suggestions for changes in wording by all means reach out with that as well and then we'll bring these back forward to the board for any changes to be discussed and approved by the board all right with that um we did have the supposition that since we weren't we thought we did go through all the speakers that were on the list but if someone stayed because they were trying to speak that's what your suggestion was so is there anyone who was waiting to speak i'm waiting okay again same thing three minutes no one can respond to you hi good evening my name is lupita arum law and i didn't plan on speaking i came tonight to kind of evaluate and see what was going on at rosedale my kids are i have older kids 27 21 and soon to be 20.

thank you [Applause] thank you kaden great job congratulations class of 2021. you made it your accomplishments in academics activities leadership the arts and athletics are too numerous to count on behalf of the staff at discovery canyon campus congratulations job well done you the class of 2021 successfully navigated the pandemic school year you were resilient patient understanding and strong you were hashtag thunderstrong that was trendy i pondered how best to address the obvious to everyone in attendance today the pandemic school year was full of challenges for all of us yet for me to talk about the school year in general related to the pandemic would certainly not adequately address each of your individual stories from the past year in addition today should not all be focused on the pandemic it's a celebration it's a celebration of each of you in the celebration of the class of 2021 and your amazing accomplishments during the pre-k 12 journey let's give them a round of applause what i would ask each of you related to the pandemic is this pay your individual pandemic experience forward future students will learn about the covid19 pandemic in their history and science classes when one of your future children grandchildren nieces nephews and even a child next door approaches you and says i'm doing a report in history class on the coveted 19 pandemic can i interview you about what you went through during the pandemic you should respond with a resounding yes and share your story and your experience doing this honors your individual story and honors the next generation of children who will read and learn about what you experienced during the pandemic the past four years you've had many lessons both academic lessons and life lessons your teachers mentors coaches directors and staff at discovery canyon have helped guide you and direct you i have the honor for the next few minutes to share with you some final thoughts i'm truly humbled to have the opportunity to be part of closing this chapter of your life and help in turning the page to the next chapter of your life there are two quotes and one set of music lyrics i would like to share with you as you turn the page to the next chapter these quotes and song lyrics don't need long explanations but i found that each of them has clearly captured how best to approach life learning work and relationships the first quote is from dr donald clifton a pioneer in science of positive psychology dr clifton was a researcher at the university of nebraska studying psychology at the time he was deeply involved in doing a review of literature related to the study of psychology and what he found was much of the study of psychology at the time was focused on what was wrong with people dr clifton reflected and pondered the question quote what would happen if we studied what was right with people versus what's wrong with people with that dr clifton kicked off a long-standing pursuit of focusing on people's strengths rather than their weaknesses focusing on your own strengths and the strengths of others will serve you well in life learning work and relationships the next quote is attributed to ian mclaren who stated quote be kind for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle we generally only have a small glimpse into the overall lives of other people with only a small picture of the challenges of each of us face on a daily basis being kind is an easy way to care for others without necessarily knowing why being so kind to someone is so important in any given moment lastly country music star tim mcgraw performed a great song called humble and kind the lyrics provide great guidance on the importance of being humble and kind as part of being successful in life learning work and relationships hold the door say please say thank you don't steal don't cheat and don't lie i know you got mountains to climb but always stay humble and kind when those dreams your dreaming come to you when the work you put in is realized let yourself feel the pride but always stay humble and kind when it's hot eat a root beer popsicle shut off the ac roll the windows down let that summer sunshine always stay humble and kind don't take for granted the love this life gives you when when you're get where you're going don't forget turn back around and help the next one in line always say humble and kind luckily i'm not tim mcgraw congratulations class of 2021 and as always go thunder next i'd like to present the class of 2021.

she explained how she placed one hand on the glass outside her sister's hospital room and waved goodbye with the other her only regret was her inability to hold and comfort her sister in those final moments she ended that sunday call by telling me don't worry mijo it will all be okay we go on and life is beautiful those final words that she spoke to me on that call were her feeding her good wolf and in turn as she often does she feeds my good wolf she challenged me to abandon any anger resentment self-pity to let go of the dislocation and desolation that was feeding my bad wolf i realized that we only have so many minutes on this planet and i'd rather spend them rolling with steve and mrs alvarez and leave the hate into somebody else living life as if only love and hope matter is a good thing it is empowering and something i want to strive for from here on out shortly after that call things began to happen rampart held a prom and a kindness angel paid the dinner tab for a group of our students with the caveat that they pay it forward by doing something nice for somebody else i have no doubt that a rampart student will always pay their debt and then some bald for bucks happened reminding us that a collaboration between teachers students and the community matters and really can change the world we had a senior walk a student and staff basketball game by the way students won in spite of mr perry's mvp performance a senior barbecue rpo did a drawing with incredible prizes and mr remiss's rampart all in one day slash night and it was awesome it was exhausting from mrs lucero mrs cooper mrs wiest mr chamberlain senior sponsors a multitude of other staff members and parents but it was that good exhaustion you feel when you pull off something that people say cannot be done this whole school year was a thing that people say could not be done and we did it then 12 young women come along to seal the deal on a state championship with more grace class poise smiles hugs and love than i knew it still existed in the world i have never been more proud not just of a team but of an entire school community that chose to cloak itself in something that was good and pure and well earned in the darkest of times as i look out from the stage today i celebrate each and every one of you i celebrate our entire school school community that chose to to look forward and not backwards but most importantly i celebrate you the students of rampart high school that have gathered here today the students going to princeton duke the university of north carolina university of chicago southern california cu csu uccs unc and a multitude of other colleges and universities throughout this country i celebrate those of you with military appointments and those of you enlisted in branches of the military and i celebrate those of you who are the first in your family to graduate from high school i celebrate hin al-ghamandi who is graduating with us today in spirit from saudi arabia she is the first student i have ever had in my 26 years of education who was able to graduate high school while living in another country and she did it at rampart who does this i ask you really who who does these things and i tell you rampart does because we are a good kind smart and important community and as we celebrate this day students as you venture out into life i ask no i beg of you feed your good wolf it is important thing for you to do in life and it will make the world a better place i have nothing for love for you rampart and i thank you for this year and now it is my pleasure to introduce you to aaron rubin rampardo high school's class of 2021 student speaker at large you know i had a few weeks to write this speech so i wrote it at midnight the night before that's high school rampart class of 2021 it is my great honor and privilege to be on this stage speaking to all of you my friends my peers and fellow graduates you know i gotta say this we made it we are here today not as icons or some background chatter created by our unmuted mics but as ourselves as graduates it's been a journey getting here one that has taken four long years and countless angry visits through the morning drop off it's time we say goodbye to those days and say hello to the future and even longer car lines at the coveted vaccination centers i know you've heard it a million times that were the covet class of 21 and how our year was impacted by the pandemic countless hours of eye watering and battery draining online classes riddled with technical difficulties jokes left unlaughed at and those awkward periods of silence after a question is asked where you know somebody is asleep am i right just like that we've sat through recorded assemblies and watched countless crash course videos but we've been the only class in ramparts history that's gotten to wear mass at school during halloween yet covent only marks one and a half years of our high school experience how about the other two and a half the year is filled with sweaty adrenaline-filled mosh pits at school dances half days to enjoy and spend the afternoon with your buddies and sneaking off campus for lunch as an underclassmen only to watch yourself be caught on video in the next week's kram episode grilled cheese thursdays at the church next door and constantly hearing about the chicken in the backpack story from the class of were just a few of the amazing experiences we've all shared throughout our years at rampart high school the memories that we have made since we first stepped foot in ramparts halls will stick with us forever as well the lip dub video together we have raised thousands of dollars to support research for balfour bucks in the process donating and shaving countless pounds of hair we have founded new clubs and participated in state and national competitions for fbla deca and world quest to name a few we have dominated in sports triumphing in tournaments and season competitions and we've all had to sit in the most ridiculous positions for school photos as i sit out and look across this field at a sea of eyes and foreheads i'm reminded of the laughs friendships handshakes elbow bumps study sessions cry sessions and after-school hangouts each and every one of us have experienced high school has marked four years of our lives and now here we are ready to move on to bigger and better things nobody knows what the future holds but whatever it may be just know that it can't be worse than trying to squeeze all your gym courses into the last semester of senior year thank you all for the hard work and dedication you have exhibited over the years because of you the class of 2021's legacy will forever be known at rampart high school thank you teachers for sharing your passions with us allowing all of us to explore interests and adapting so well to online schooling thank you administration for all the work you have done to keep rampart running and for always being a smiling face to welcome up to the building even on the coldest of days and finally thank you parents for your continued support and for graciously adapting to our pandemic learning this year rams as we move on to the next chapter of our lives let's remember the good times we've had in high school and never forget the friendships we've forged over the past four years look to your left and now to your right do you feel that that's the feeling of no summer reading homework enjoy it good luck in all your future endeavors rams you can leave the meeting now at this time i would like to welcome the rampart high school sensations as they perform may the road rise to meet you by victor c johnson so [Music] the me be always at your back may the sun upon your fears [Music] is [Music] others [Music] may the sun upon your face [Music] may the sun [Music] is [Music] oh [Music] of his wife [Music] ah and now it is my pleasure to reinvite to the podium the academic school district 20 superintendent mr tom gregory thank you aaron i'd like to start by acknowledging dr dr jim smith and all of our high school principals for their continued efforts to plan re-plan and plan again our graduation ceremonies over the last few months keeping up with ever-changing guidance their focus was always centered on developing a traditional graduation ceremony with as few restrictions as possible dr smith and mr alvarez on behalf of the district 20 community thank you for making this day of celebration possible i also want to recognize and thank class of 2021 student atharva vispute for participating on my student advisory council this past year atharva not only did you represent the rampart high school student voice with honor and pride your perspective regarding issues such as our website effectiveness online learning coveted frustrations equity and inclusion graduation ceremonies and many other topics was valued and constructive thank you atharva well class of 2021 congratulations you've made it you navigated some of the most difficult circumstances faced by students in decades you sacrificed the end of your junior year and continued that sacrifice through your senior year and your senior year has been like no other remote learning in-person learning online learning and hybrid learning that is a lot of learning and all that learning included a host of new norms such as mask breaks cohorting social distancing quarantines hand sanitizer more quarantines more hand sanitizer and more quarantines you endure shortened athletic seasons online concerts and plays outdoor proms numerous cancellations an era and dare i say it not one single snow day this was not all your senior year was marked by some of the most contentious social and political events in history your senior year has been one of historical proportions you made history in 10 20 and even 50 years students and teachers will read about your journey in history classes but through it all you persevered you were patient flexible and you showed grit in short you demonstrated resilience resilience is described as the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties or the ability of a substance or object to spring back into shape or most simply put being elastic resilience is now part of your dna and frankly that is a good thing because resilience is a characteristic characteristic you will need to lean on throughout the rest of your life i wish i could tell you life will get easier and resilience is a trait only needed in and 2021 but the truth is whether through your job your education or future relationships you will face challenges you overcame the challenges of your senior year and you will continue to overcome future challenges because you are adaptable you are persistent you are resilient and you are creative problem solvers an article in the journal of medical science from 2016 reads resilience is an individual's ability to adaptively respond to hardship stress and adversity it is the ability to bounce back that describes each of you that same article reads individuals who report high levels of resilience typically portray an optimistic outlook positive emotionality curiosity and openness to new experiences they are able to emerge from a challenge stronger wiser and more powerful resilience correlates strongly with success interpersonal satisfaction happiness and hope as you leave here today prepare to make your mark on this world i ask that you use the events of the last 16 months to propel you forward no matter how much the world tries to hold you back challenge you or knock you down always continue with the belief that what you want to achieve is possible do not lose hope stay confident believe in the possibilities channel your curiosity seek solutions to problems that others do not see you can find your hope through many means hope can arise from simply taking in new information or gaining new knowledge sometimes it may be just the smile of a trusted friend the friend who trusts in you or in your ability to find a creative solution to a new problem as described in the story of the lone shark and the daughter the story goes in a small italian town many years ago a small business owner owed a large sum of money to a loan shark the loan shark was an old rough looking guy that just so happened to fancy the business owner's daughter the loan shark offered the businessman a deal that would dissolve the businessman's debt however there was a catch the catch was that he would only forgive the debt if he could marry the businessman's daughter needless to say this proposal was met with disgust however as the story goes the lone shark proposed that he would place two pebbles into a bag one white pebble and one red pebble the daughter would then have to reach into the bag and pick out a pebble if it was red the debt would be forgiven and the lone shark would marry the daughter if the stone's selected was white the debt would still be forgiven but the daughter would not have to marry the loan shark so standing on a path strewn with red and white pebbles in a businessman's garden the lone shark bent over and picked up two pebbles as he was picking them up the daughter noticed that he picked up two red pebbles and placed them both into the bag he then asked the daughter to reach into the bag and pick one naturally the daughter had three options one refused to pick a pebble from the bag which would not help her father two take both pebbles out of the bag and expose the lone shark for a cheater which again would not help her father or three pick a pebble from the bag full well knowing it was going to be red and sacrifice herself for her father's financial freedom so she reluctantly drew a pebble from the bag but before the color was discovered she appeared to accidentally drop it to the ground undetectable from the other pebbles on the ground she had quickly engineered a fourth option after a short pause she said to the loan shark oh how clumsy of me but sir if you look into the bag for the pebble that is left you will be able to tell which pebble i dropped the pebble left in the bag is obviously red and knowing the lone shark did not want to be exposed he had to play along as if the pebble the daughter dropped was in fact white her father's debt was cleared and the loan shark defeated her creative solution saved the situation in an instant the father and daughter went from feeling hopeless to hopeful as a result of a short moment in time when she saw solutions others did not as martin luther king jr stated we must accept finite disappointment but never lose infinite hope you are graduating today from a great school in a fabulous district in a terrific community in a wonderful state in the greatest country in the world you have every reason to be hopeful and optimistic as you reflect and celebrate on your time in high school remember you did not make this journey alone please at some point in the near future take time to thank the friends teachers parents grandparents and or anyone else who pushed or even had to pull you to this day congratulations rampart high school class of 2021 i wish you a successful hopeful and fulfilling future be well and be safe thank you at this point i'd like to welcome assistant principal deirdre and i um we had we went to rosedale we did parkview it was great the immersion on bilingual and it's been a great experience i've been part of the chico community for 22 years so what was my impression tonight my impression was discomfort i was uncomfortable with what happened at rosedale hi kelly and i was what was really important what really impressed me was this group of and i know joanne from from parkview group of of leaders uh from from rosedale and they huddled in that corner and none of them looked like me and none of them looked like my children i don't know joanna very well i met her a couple of times she seems like a competent lovely well-spoken woman and the aesthetics here are really not very good for us as a community we need women like joanna because she is young she's beautiful she's articulate she's passionate and she stimulates us that's what education does that's why you're here because you want stimulation you want and change is difficult and it's uncomfortable and it sounds to me like what she's causing over a part of you is rosedale is discomfort and that's a good thing because we grow from it i don't know the way the structure is at schools or who hires whom or or who has power to do what keep joanna for the sake of aesthetics i heard something about bullying and somebody and one per a parent and the third person couldn't come in i don't know but it doesn't sound very good so i challenge you all to get to the bottom of it hang on to her hang on to her for aesthetics for our community and then let's see what happens but you need people like me that look like me that speak like me that speak like joanna to stand up and push back none of us are perfect and we all need nurturing we talked a lot about equity diversity inclusion let's do it let's put let's put action behind these words we're not going to like everybody but let's do it thank you all right thank you uh good evening my name is omar pena i am a parent at rosedale and i have a fifth grader there i had an eighth i have a soon-to-be freshman who went to rosedale and i don't think this is intentional i think there's there's good intention here by these people that spoke but there's an underlying message here that there isn't dignity respect and celebration of our cultura of our language at rosedale and in the last six years i have not experienced that quite the opposite the reason i sent my kids there and i advocate for rosedale is because the men and women who work there the staff the teachers they want to be there and teach our kids kids that look like me and that matters whether they're brown or white those people care about our kids and there's a big difference when you go to a school like that i'll tell you those teachers are why i'm here speaking on their behalf i've talked to many of them admittedly as my kids got older i'm not as much of a volunteer but i have relationships and have connections and just like i in my own organization it's not easy to come out and be public somebody has to speak and they're good people there now this brings me to another point they're not here i'm a middle manager in my organization i don't know what a principle or vice principle specific roles are but i would assume that it's not just pushing equity which is the value of du jour of the day but in my organization we're responsible for budgets scheduling motivating people and the marine corps we had a saying good initiative bad judgment when you want to change a culture as a leader you have to be careful you have to motivate people you have to move people to that side you push too hard you can break an organization you can break a school those teachers could go somewhere else and that's not what i want for this community for the other kids that are going to come that look like my children that look like me they need to have those teachers there that staff there i don't know this vice principal i'm not here to speak to that but clearly as a middle manager i see something here there's good intention there's nothing wrong with pushing equity but with any change if you do it incorrectly you can break an organization and lastly i hear what this last speaker said and as as a man of color it's important for me to that i see that my kids see people that look like me but i want people who are successful who can do it don't push people in positions just because of our color we fail those kids that come before us and if they don't succeed we break that individual too thank you all right i appreciate that that you waited and you stayed and i helped very good they've already spoke so um with that is there we're at the end of our meeting so is there your your thing was over three minutes um is there a sense of the board i don't have a problem with letting her finish i didn't hear he said i don't have a problem with letting her finish i totally wouldn't mind hearing all right they say you can finish the best compliment he gave me was that this ted that he admired how self-reflective i was he said he was certain that i'd be the leader of a school one day like ted said i am a chingona that means badass i've worked hard to be where i am i deserve to be here my community deserves me rosedale is the elementary school that supports the largest latineckis latina latino hispanic student population in the district i am the leader rosedale needs in order to move forward with much needed equity work as a first generation us latina who worked hard to achieve what she did with a master's degree i share similar lived experiences with both the students and the teachers i want to stay i want to learn i want to grow and to positively influence the rosedale community i want to challenge you to reflect what went wrong here you can learn from this we can learn from this we can make it right i will forgive you we will forgive you we will support you through the work i'm not afraid of the pain grief anger that this equity journey might bring up i'm excited to grow as a leader and to continue strengthening the only di program in butte county i'm here to join all of you in supporting this imperative journey towards a more equitable schooling system i want to be back at rosedale gracias por su tiempo i also want to say i personally went to school with a lot of the rosedale teachers a lot of the teachers there i've supervised through cll grant they're personal friends of mine they haven't spoken to me and the gentleman talked about middle management teachers have privately texted me silently spoken to me they will not stand up because there's been a record of what happens when you stand up and i'm a reflection of that and so not all of the teachers there support me that's every admin knows that you're not going to have all of your teachers support especially when you're pushing them to do something a little bit differently because change is hard we all know that but i would say a majority of the teachers there had they heard what parents said what we've said um would be excited about it to have their di school finally be supported in the way that it needs to be supported they'd be thrilled and that's all i have to say thank you thank you all right [Applause] okay that was our last speaker so is there a board member who wants to agendize an item yes okay i would like um to have a information and with possible action on the situation with the third proposed homeless camp by marsh junior high school i'm thinking possibly an amicus brief to the if that might possibly be wise from the standpoint of our council and and us or maybe a message to the city council i believe the city council put that one on hold last night is that correct they yes they did and they also set a a process in place to bring the issue back in june um and they um they have a a plan for continuing discussion on meeting the requirements of the decision as well as recognizing that there has to be a way to uh provide community input in the process so i need a clarification here are you anticipating that we would agenda is drafting a memo i mean there's already been communication what what are you sure i mean i'm i'm i think we need to be vigilant in protecting the children who are in our care at marsh junior high maybe to a lesser extent little chico creek and whatever we need to do as a public body to try to be on top of that situation and be providing input to the powers that be whether it be the city council or the judge then i think we should be prepared to do that i drove this distance yesterday and it's about a quarter of a mile one of the things if if one of the things that one of the council members reported last night because they're they're feeling the same frustration in trying to meet the the terms of their agreement was that there isn't anywhere within the city limits that there isn't a school within a quarter to a half a mile there are no it doesn't exist because our schools um you know are all in neighborhoods they're they're looking at um many things it's complicated oh my gosh um i think our our um point of order i'm sorry go ahead um there is a motion on the floor without a second until we have a second we shouldn't be discussing this because if no one's going to talk want to bring it up there's no reason to be talking about so i also would just caution that when we do discuss we have to be careful about discussing because it's not agendized yet so it's hard to right now this can only be about whether we want to agendize this item and it does not yet have a second i think i'm a little unclear on what what matt's asking i'm sorry mr tennis is asking for also um it would we how how would we get the information from the city you know i think we would need to know what it looks like from there and i just i think that's why we would put it on the agenda and have staff give us that information uh the fact of the matter is you know we're talking about people who didn't fit in at the shelter so we're talking about heavy drug use we're talking about sex offenders and they're a quarter mile away from this time you need to stop so we're not discussing that right now so i'm just going to no no i'm just explaining the value of having it you're being inappropriate at this point and you're making me not want to set your item just because you went there so i i was seriously considering at least seconding it so we can have the discussion about what what does school safety look like in terms of the proposed the proposal right point of order i'm sorry there's a motion on the floor is anybody seconded it not yet can we just put motion diet then with that we can give a second can i make a real quick motion okay thanks um i would like to motion that in the event that the city of chico decides to move forward within such an encampment then we put it on the next available agenda just a discussion of our proximity and responsibilities in that regard so you would make it that if the city which i didn't realize they had stopped at last night yeah they did moves forward then we would agendize this yeah then it should automatically pop up on our next agenda okay do i have a second for that can i ask a question of clarification is it specifically for the one of the three that they propose that is within a certain proximity to a school which we know is we're talking about the marsh junior high school spot or is it in general within a certain proximity to any school or it's a good question i don't know um i guess i will clarify my own motion let's say within a half a mile of one of our campuses okay i'll second that okay so do i have a second on that yeah just like in the day okay wasn't it clear you're it's muffled sorry i'm have a sinus infection so not only do i have a mask but also i'm stuck so the motion now is that if the city council moves to establish a homeless camp within a half mile of one of our schools we will bring this back as an item to a board meeting okay any discussion of that yes yes thank you um i i actually think that's a a good idea for several reasons one it gives us a chance to take a look at mitigation of impacts because we don't have there isn't a property that doesn't meet that criteria so there will be a camp designated within a half mile of a school because that's the only anyway um there's also the issue of um there's not going to be my opinion any comfortable acceptance of that by our parent groups and if we can assist in getting them information on why the decision was made by the city council and how to communicate with the city council on um you know there's stuff it's just it's such it's such a complicated thing because of the federal court order and if we can assist our parents in understanding what's happening and put into place any mitigations we can to make to and from school safer for our students then i think that would be a good use of our agenda time we're not going to stop it but at least we can act to keep our kids as as okay and as part of that i would i would like to have some kind of reporting from the city about what you know types of security measures they may have in place especially during school hours or during those hours where students will be walking or biking to and from school just for the increased traffic of pedestrians in those areas okay so we cannot flesh out the the whole context of this but i think it's clear that it would be the board would look to the administration to get us as much updated information as we can and that would include whatever motions the city has to make to meet the judge requirement so okay so that's what's been a motion to agendize that if the city council clarifies that they are going to put something on there and any other yes dr kaiser my expectation is that during this process that our administration is communicating with the city council [Music] and being a part of the process i think that would be to our advantage and um i think that the city council and and the new city manager are agreeable to involving the district in working through solutions to a problem that doesn't have one all right so if that's a clear clear motion and we have a second um any comments from the public we'll see anything yeah okay all those in favor signify by saying aye robinson and i land away all right guys right all right so five passes five to nothing and then president kaiser i will need a clear direction from you as to what we are communicating with the city uh because i don't believe that our board has had a discussion as to where they land on that issue so certainly i will always advocate for the safety of our students and i'm happy to continue to do that i think the context of this is where they're actually going to do it and the issue of what kinds of measures are being taken the what got revealed was pretty scant okay all right so with that are there any other items that somebody wants to agendize yes i shared with the board [Music] the school services overview of what constitutes cola and how that impacts different in different ways on our funding and finances and things and i found so much information about cola and its application to our funding that i did not know and had a hard time understanding and i wondered did you all get it yeah and do you have any interest in more detail on how cola impacts our funding just wondered if i was the only one curious okay yes the what what it means cola oh cost of living adjustment it's the state responding to federal government setting the standard of how much things have gone up and how that's applied to different ways that the funding for schools is calculated and it it was interesting and not confusing but it was interesting and i felt as a board member it was important for me to understand that process so i'll do i'll do more reading on my own and board members that have any questions or want to understand anything in further depth by all means um make an appointment in this particular case with jacqueline but yeah any of us with that i'm going to adjourn them oh wait a second hold on no what i'm sorry i would like to put something on oh and also i got two things and i hate to do this to you guys i'll try and make it fast first of all uh given everything that transpired today i would move a uh to add a discussion item to a future agenda so we can actually go over exactly what our equity policies are so everyone has a good idea of what we're talking about and making being able to make sure they're being applied equally in all cases or evenly in all cases and i would say i would welcome that we've been doing a lot of work in that area and i think it would be a great workshop when the board meets in july to set their schedule and we find a time to do that i appreciate that can i oh good i'll second that motion i too am interested so the motion is to uh have a workshop uh on our equity approaches i don't think that it's a workshop i think what we're asking for is maybe more of a snapshot up like sooner than because we're talking about setting the work because we don't set workshops until july so we don't that's how we do it june is yeah apology what no it's mandatory i didn't say anything about okay when do we set our workshops thank you we set our workshops in july for the following year so what i'm what i'm saying is that i feel like maybe we should be asking for a sooner snapshot about our progress so far in equity yeah our next regular meeting is um what's the date of the june meeting anybody 22nd um 22nd is the regular meeting for the month but that's el cap and the next meeting is is the lcap going to take up the entire meeting i mean because that's not a workshop that's a regular meeting right yeah it's uh normally takes up an entire meeting because people can come and participate in the past we've had food and people bring their kids or you know so we can do this one or two ways you know clearly equity is a part of the lcap and so we can highlight our efforts within the lcap agenda or if you want a very you know separate item we can do that as well but i think what makes sense is since the board did ask us to include equity and make sure it was defined in our lcap that we address the actions we've taken as a as a direct result of the board direction we can do that through the the lcap discussion well i would um since we're still kind of writing this there's motion on the fly my motion would be that it is a separate item so that we can have clear discussion and feedback from the public on specifically that portion of it so i guess my motion is to have an independent agenda item on the june regular meeting agenda to go over our equity policies and how they are being implemented that's the motion so well yeah i'm i'm i'm confused tom because it we have said it shall be part of the all cap and it is it is embedded in there and how in every site yeah at every site at every you know so that's gonna happen if we want to somehow rather advertise that i mean that's been part of the discussion as the lcap meetings have happened that's it has been but i think that um given our current situation and the speakers we've heard we should probably pull just the equity piece out and look at that separately from the lcap as a whole i'm in a second this for one and say that yes our lcap meetings are complex and long and tedious but i think this is a very very important the most important topic that we're trying to move forward with it would be a great item to have before we deep dive into the lcap so that we can segue from talking about equity specifically and our progress on our equity program so far and then get into the elk cap after we have the equity discussion and then we can see where it falls into the current el cap process so that aligns with what you're asking for right okay so there's a there's a second on the floor any other discussion i'm concerned that it will drag it out excuse me drag it out so much that we will lose our parent participation i'm i'm not worried about that case in point we don't have any parent participation right now and hopefully we will have some more input but we've had great parent participation in the process up until this point anyway um so i'm not concerned about the end product not having so much so much participation but the people who have something to say will be here and it may work the other way as well that people who come because they want to speak specifically on the equity piece and stick around and learn something about the lcap and engage in that process any other comments all right we can take a vote so to vote yes votes to separate the discussion and the suggestion was at the meeting prior to the lcap discussion but all of the same meeting province and i land away kaiser nay dolby tennis name okay pass is three to two i do i'm so sorry i'm not really sorry um as we are taking on tk um i made this clarification from staff for do we have any plans regarding an administrative position to oversee ece credentialed staff members i believe we have one we already have a preschool coordinator oh see this kind of thing i just need to know yeah we have a close close we do have a preschool director on staff who oversees our four state preschool c program i didn't even think on the notion i just need to know what heck is going on that's exciting thank you and so if this plan moves forward to pull our pull our preschools to the loma vista site that director would would go along with that program right correct and we've actually applied for a fifth expansion site for state preschool as well and we're hoping to know by the end of the month if we get that but that would be operable for next school year well i feel silly but that's not unusual so no no item to agendize all right okay then i motion for adjournment what we needed

since the beginning of the pandemic in our class hasn't faced incredible uncertainty until recently we did not know if we would be able to attend our graduation in person thankfully today we are able to share this important milestone with each other and with our loved ones i would like for i would first like to thank our teachers friends families and administrators all of whom have been incredibly important and supportive during these past four years i would also like to recognize the ib program which has created a close intellectual community for so many students including me i will be forever grateful for the amazing education rampart has provided me five years ago i remember attending my sister's graduation at the air force academy i remember the large arena with metal bleachers the neat arrays of blue chairs down below the large flag black drop on the stage i remember the frequent cheers being echoed off the walls the proud faces of my parents the glee mixed with the deep finality after the ceremony and the frequent flashes of cameras and for me i realized throughout that day how happy i would be to one day be one of those blue robe seniors i want to achieve that same maturity and a community that could only be achieved through going to school for over 12 years in particular through the final four years of high school never would i have imagined how drastically different our high school experiences would be throughout this year i'm sure we have all had the pandemic looming in the back of our minds and we've all constantly asked ourselves what if our school year was normal it's sad to think out that we missed out on so much of the so-called high school experience but at the same time i think the pandemic hasn't been as intrinsic to our own individual high school experience as other in-person events would have been in any other regular school year for instance we have had to step up and help our peers navigate each teacher's different organization system on schoology optimize our morning routines from rolling out of bed to our nearby desk so we can be an exactly on on microsoft teams at exactly 70 45 and even pursue friendships solely online with nightly face times that can continue until unhealthy hours on the surface these experiences may not be traditional high school struggles but we've all had to change gain flexibility and try new things which are integral in any high school experience although life may have had the illusion of stagnation our experiences have had an unlikely degree of dynamicity so although it is normal to grieve the loss of many benefits of a normal senior year we have forged our own collective experiences and memories that we can someday still tenderly reflect upon perhaps in future high school reunions we will have the we will be able to reminisce on the real ones who told us we were unmuted the awkwardness of the initial unmuting of breakout rooms and the glee on teachers faces when we all turned our cameras on the pandemic has all affected us in vastly different ways but there is no doubt that we have all personally changed and grown from our experiences over these past four years while i have not had the same experiences as the class of 2016 i look out and still see the same maturity community and pride that i saw five years ago at my sister's graduation to all my to all my fellow graduates take all you have learned during the pandemic the good and the bad with you as you move forward in life during these unprecedented times we've had to develop incredible mental flexibility and a deep compassion with others both of which will serve us well as we move successfully forward in our lives i for one i'm excited about what everyone will accomplish in the future thank you good afternoon faculty members family friends and of course the class of 2021.

today is a day to acknowledge the accomplishment of over a decade of education and to celebrate the perseverance demonstrated not only in the trials of this year but of the trials set before us and the years leading up to this moment and in the life laid out before us i hope that you all carry the words of me and my peers up on this stage with you after you leave today the class of 2021 is unlike any before it we're lucky enough to be here today sitting shoulder to shoulder to walk the stage to receive our diplomas to turn our tassels as one because at the beginning of this year that possibility was one of many questions we all had would we have school in person will we have our senior prom our senior walk would we be able to continue on with life would we be able to graduate in front of our families among our classmates that we have grown up with without the barrier of a screen this year pulled us apart as we went our separate ways half of us took all of our classes online trying to learn through the obstacle of our screen as we did everything we could to find solutions to the pandemic many of us felt unfulfilled and anticlimactic and to our educational journey our journey to grow up our years of hard work friendship and memories were left unfinished until today we won't get the opportunity to make up for the losses of the last year but we can move on stronger than we were before we adapted to the challenges before us and still kept going where do we go from here this question is what defines the path ahead of us each of us has to ask this question and each has a different answer than the person at your right shoulder at your left this question will set you on your journey into the life ahead of you where do we go from here we can sit and watch the world around us hoping for change in despair about the state of the world it's uncruel unfairness where do we go from here we can go from here looking forward only to the end of the day not enjoying the little things throughout it waiting for the distant future to be happy because you can be happy once you get there right where do we go from here we can surround ourselves with individuals who don't have the same goals the same values as us never moving forward never reaching our potential as they limit us confine us no this is where we will go from here we'll stand up walk off this stage off this field away from the school that has been our home for the past four years and we will move forward we're the class that will take the lessons learned from this past year and apply them through the rest of our lives this is where we will go from here we meet those that have the same goals as us who push us to be our best selves we have goals and dreams that align with ours we surround ourselves with individuals who want the best for us just as we want the best for them all of us together we've supported each other supported ourselves through this year we've learned the strength in numbers unbreakable when together working towards the same goal we move forward together that we may take separate paths we won't forget what we've done here we've experienced firsthand tragedy struggle sacrifice and we're better for it the bonds that we've built over years of playful competition friendship and hurt have demonstrated that have demonstrated what we can accomplish not even a global pandemic prevented us from getting here today to this stage where we take what we've done the past decade and make it into an accomplishment a milestone our bonds got us to this point through a global pandemic to where we now have the strength to part ways to share the lessons we've learned with others as they share theirs with us this is not a tragedy this is not the loss of truck loss of childhood you will go from here carrying all of that with you it's a part of you that makes you who you are nothing can rip that from you unless you wish to part with it it's up to you you get to choose your path the journey that you will take when you walk off the stage flip your tassel and become not a student but a graduate don't dwell on the past but choose to move forward continue to push past what slows you down never let others define your limits because then they define you instead find those in your life who will pick you up when you fall won't let you idle in comfort but rather push you let you find your worth without making you sacrifice your dreams and values together we will move forward we are the class that persevered the class that found strength in each other and our community we are the class that moves forward from here not letting the past drag us down we are the class of 2021.
