right now whether it is at our open meetings that we allow anyone and everyone to join on those zooms um whether it's through contributions like our shine on postcard campaign that we've been doing for over four years with over 24 000 postcards that have gone out free to our young people in the community for united nations international youth day or when we talk about the work that we're doing with bcse with spark week and throughout the county and that's coming up during suicide prevention month in september we know that working together with our young people the schools our community that that we can really provide the best environment for all young people to thrive so i think i'll end with that um and hopefully made it within my time limit dr robert but i bet you have some questions there may be some questions questions yeah i have one and forgive me if this is a dumb one because i know there are dumb questions but on the um i guess it's the the big the strategic maps yeah yeah under professionals yeah the community certificate program yes d.a and dr what does it say well sorry and those are developmental assets and developmental relationships and mr grimes you went straight to the thing that we talked about did we need to make sure that we had written out everything so developmental assets and development relationship frameworks actually came from originally the counseling council initiative and what we recognized was the developmental asset profile survey that our students took in bcsc the initiatives could go with the research and the support and the frameworks and so our community organizations are also doing onboarding their new staff in those two social motion well-being frameworks so that there is quality service and supports that are happening in the community that echo what's happening in the classrooms so it's really to have a common language a common approach not just in bcse but also in the community so where our young people go when they leave school at the end of the day that they're getting some of those same quality of experience and quality of support outside of bcsc thank you yeah great thank you other questions go ahead sure i i love that so much of the master plan deals with uh it gets right to the end with outcomes measures indicators so that we'll know how we're doing and where we need to focus more attention perhaps in the future could you also give us a story maybe about a person or people um sure so there's so many things that have been connected even to bcse over the years with council for youth development i would say one of our proudest is we piloted the youth ambassadors so you may have seen those in the newspaper or you may have seen it in some of the work that's happening those youth ambassadors there were 19 that we piloted this year those high school students from across the county most of them from bcsc and those students over the course of the year actually built their skills and built their experience around service learning so as an example they actually helped put on and design the youth empowerment summit where other high schools were a part of so our students are really applying all these principles in these frameworks in a really easy way for them to to give back to the community and also really have them um increase their own kind of self-confidence and personal identity as well so lots of different examples but that is probably one of my favorites we have quite a few youth ambassadors that have decided to stay when they graduate and go to school at ivy tech and iupuc and i think that's a really marvelous thing that we're going to be able to even as alumni for youth ambassadors will be able to continue to give back in the community so that's pretty special thank you awesome so so i'm curious um 2025 is really pretty close yes so so i'm i'm curious as to that you have baseline data and you're and you've got goals for three years i mean i'm imagining a lot of this would continue and or expand a past but but you've you've set a pretty um ambitious ambitious that's a good word um so could you elaborate sure i think for us it it really hasn't been it's been a journey from the beginning so this truly started in 2017 so we see that we many of the things that that you see here actually are pretty realistic we are already in the process of working towards these goals so this isn't pie in the sky many of these things as even dr roberts was on the vision 2025 task team we were very realistic of saying these strategic objectives where are they going to fit best in the work that's happening right now and if you if you go in a little bit deeper here you're going to see that some of this has to be the responsibility of the coalition and kind of the leadership but much of this is also lifting up our community partners that are already doing great work including bcse so for us we see this as a realistic um timeline to get us it's still ambitious but really we think that because we have the operational plan to go with it we know that what infrastructures do we need to create to make sure that we get as close as we can in 2025 and really for us you know thinking if we really are this moonshot in 2030 um with kind of equity in general we have to get there we have to start somewhere and that is mapping out as best we can right so i imagine you'll be working closely with the two coordinators that we now have on our team yes i tried to contain myself to make sure i wasn't like whooping it up when but this is this is really actually it's an excellent investment i would say that regardless to me it's really thinking forward-facing for a school district to say yes we're going to commit and invest in a wellness director and multicultural director to me this is exactly what every school district should be doing so i applaud the leadership that made this decision and boy i think we've got two amazing people so thank you yeah so i this may not be a question for you heather but can you give examples of how bcsc is a part or sharing data or working collaboratively on projects do we put not 20.

these are seven standards so in front of you you have a folder and in that folder there's actually three different sections that i'll be talking about tonight as well so you can even open it up early if you'd like to in terms of our coalition it is collective impact and how we do that really is through kind of a primary roles of youth empowerment family engagement professional development and community partner mobilization and what we realize is that we can do things better and how are we going to do it better together from school community partnerships but also cross-sector across the community so in the folder you have the guiding principles so you can do a deeper dive that goes with that also our theory of change that we developed with our strategic plan test you

so it's always fun when we get to start our meetings with human resources recommendations and probably get to invite new people to be a part of our bcsc community so I'll turn to Dr pleek I request approval of the HR recommendations as presented this evening thank you thank you all right thank you very much so is there a motion to approve those recommendations as we have them in our packet SoMo thank you Mr Hofstra wire is there a second are there any particular questions individuals have it was a wonderfully long list all right without any questions all those in favor of our human resource recommendations as presented to us if you'd signify by saying I I those opposed then there you go they have passed unanimously thank you we have two more so thank you Doctor let's go right and wonderfully long is much better than awfully long right yeah in terms of that descriptor um we do have two positions that I want to place in front of you tonight for approval and I will start with Multicultural coordinator um with both of these positions both these individuals are here so once we approve them hopefully based on my recommendation we can have them say order two for us my first recommendation is the Multicultural coordinator position and we are recommending Mrs Angie Kirkham for that position Angie received her BS degree from in elementary education from iupuc in 2009 she has 13 years of teaching experience three years for greater Clark County Schools a year for Jennings County and nine years for bcsc at Clifty Creek Elementary School in 2018 Angie was named the ark teacher of the year a very prestigious recognition here in our community and in 2021 just last year she was Clifty Creek's teacher of the year through our recognition program Andrew will bring great experience to us both from the classroom as well as her her background that includes two years of service as the chairperson of the minorities Affairs committee for ISTA and she has also developed a skill set directly for this position through conversations on advocating for racial equity advocating for students with disabilities mentoring teachers as they face challenges with students and families from various backgrounds so her passion to serve the underserved and underrepresented populations of our Corporation was evident when we took her through the interview process we are glad to recommend Angie for this very important position for bcsc all right so we have a recommendation before us or if I may have a motion to accept this recommendation for Angie Kirkham so move thank you Miss day off try or Sarah II second thank you Mr Grimes are there any particular questions among my board members colleagues all right all those in favor of having Angie join our team as a multicultural coordinator if you'd signify by saying I all right as opposed there you are congratulations thank you if I could have Angie perhaps come to the podium thank you Angie congratulations so microphone right in front of you there Auntie awesome thank you can't use my teacher voice all right first I want to say thank you so very much for this opportunity I have enjoyed working at bcsc and representing all of the underserved students and underrepresented students that have come across my classroom and I'm glad to be able to do this at a greater level I was asked what were some of my top priorities so first and foremost as an educator I know I need to develop relationships so I need to meet with the various groups that serve our students our underrepresented students and as well as the families and the students themselves and staff members I'd also like to get in touch with the for guide team the guide teams that have been in place and also with the diversity Council so um I want to get again say thank you for this opportunity and I'm super excited I can't lie I'm a little bit nervous as well and I think that's normal so thank you again thank you thank you all right thank you for that approval sure the next one is director of Wellness another really important position for us and actually a new one that we are putting in place in in many ways we'll take the place of Dr Moore and help us move the counseling Council initiative forward but it is also more than that if we as we again we've established this this new position to help our school corporation in many ways the recommendation is for Kristen Beck Kristen received her bachelor's degree from IU in special education in 1997.

in your board packet you also have your bills payable reports for a final june payout um and then july july's bills are in there as well for both northern cain and central and then we're starting to get ready for our audit that starts august 8th so they went fully digital so now we're scanning and uploading files to them so i have a feeling someday they may not even be out here to review stuff but um so it's it's it's interesting because we get to upload it it's done getting things we're getting things checked off faster but then it's also more time to scan it where before we just hand it to them so um it'll be interesting they don't bug you during the day because they're not on site right um right now they're not but we can start sending them stuff in that in that system right now so we're already loading i mean trs stuff's in there it's like normally it's we get it the day or two before they come so then it's a lot and then they're here but now just kind of as it comes it's like just upload and be done so it's kind of nice so move it up in the world all right yes nolan yes yes rabe yes a thief yes gorman yes next we need a motion second to discuss and improve the proposed changes to the elementary school handbook so moved second so principal ingle is not with us tonight but he did provide an updated memo for the board packet uh the the change that occurred between last month when it came as information this month for action is a new law went into effect in illinois that requires us to include suicide prevention contact information in the handbooks so the handbooks have been updated at all levels uh to reflect that change and that's ease and student ids has to be reflected as well all right and phil yes nolan yes yes rabe yes yes fog yes gorman yes the next week in motion and second to discuss and improve the proposed changes to the high school handbook again though the changes would be exactly what we talked about with the elementary to include that information related to the national suicide prevention lifeline and that the information would be printed on our student id badges and we'll work with interstate photography who does the student pictures provides the ids to to make that possible principal testing anything else [Music] garmin yes all right next in motion second to discuss and approve the release of closed session items so moved second so issues addressed in executive session from january to june include items related to personnel student records negotiations and litigation personal reports are subject to release but issues pertaining to student records other matters pertaining to individual students along with any ongoing negotiations information will not be released at this time the agendas and personal reports are included in the board packet any questions from anyone regarding those all right yes rabe yes a thief yes bulk yes campfield yes nolan yes gorman yes move out of information items now we only have one thing tonight the tentative budget so do you want me to write here don't matter okay so as i mentioned earlier um with closed session minutes we still have ongoing negotiations and typically we would come in from the board um in august with a tentative budget then that budget has to be displayed for 30 days for public review and then we would act on that budget in september but um as we get close to concluding negotiations our concern is that we would put all this work into budget and then there would be potential changes quite a few changes to attend the budget between tentative and final action so what we're proposing is that we would move uh the tenant to budget hearing in in the tenant budget review until the september meeting and then have um the meeting in october to approve that budget the issue that we face is that as i mentioned there has to be 30 days for review between the september meeting and the october meeting and there's only 29 days so um the question for the board is if the board would be able and then we would publicize it to move the october meeting from that monday to the tuesday which i believe is october 18th board members would be available that would give us the 30 days for review and it would give us enough time to publicize the change on the board meeting it's the 18th that's fine by me so far i'm good three go here fourth yes okay then what we'll do is we'll publicize the change that we're moving the october board meeting from the monday to the tuesday and then that allows us the the 30 days from the attendance budget proposal to the final election in october and then we'll share that information with the regional office of education as well so that they know that it'll be coming following that meeting do we act on that next month good uh next we have move on to foia so we had a couple foia requests we received two foia requests one from michelle diversity requesting payroll records for last year for steve deversky and one from the illinois retired teachers association by requesting a list of contact information for all retiring staff for the 21 22 school year we were able to respond to those foias and provide them the information requested all right well in my 13 years i was the fastest i think this i think this may have been our fastest or shortest board meeting what are you doing next month yeah

no it's okay i just don't know if we put mr jensen and mr edwards on the spot mr edwards is on our side it seems like you just did mr jensen i love putting you on the spot [Music] okay and like the developmental assets and growth in those areas absolutely awesome and i will just brag too that you know what's really exciting is that we have bcsc faculty administrators that are willing to do professional development training like mr edwards did a implicit bias training with indiana youth institute locally he didn't have to do that but he was already committed to this mr jensen as just another example when we started really this ambitious idea of doing onboarding new staff and community organizations with a certificate program mr jensen was a part of making sure that those trainings were not only tested but that we were we really vetted the resources that would go with it so those are just two but like dr hack and miss pleek and everybody that's that's a part of this it's it's it's pretty deep in terms of the commitment with bcsc and that's on purpose because really for us the idea is that we want to help push bcsc wherever they need to go from a community and kind of support and aligning the work as opposed to dictating what needs to happen or say that a particular type of program needs to happen the idea is that we can work together using the resources that we have to help our kids wonderful thank you are there other questions no question just make maybe uh bringing our attention back to this slide heather uh the three items at the top the concerns that are stated from a data standpoint i'm not sure how well our public understands you know some of the challenges that we have across our school district across our county in terms of neighborhood neighborhood or whatever and so if you wouldn't mind maybe just reading those again and sure and these are you know for us the youth development index really highlights this as well so on our website you can get directly to really these data indicators but these three are probably three of the most concerning that that really for many of us it's a call to action so when we look at this first one that dr roberts is pointing out i'll just read these since some of you it might be difficult to see that neighborhoods where a child is born may have a poverty rate that is 42 percent higher than the neighborhood next door and we're talking about just bartholomew county so this isn't where you know for us it is absolutely our boundaries what are our young people and what are our families experiencing so can you imagine just based on where you are the situation that you're in that that big of a difference in terms of your financial stability the second one is the medium household income in one neighborhood maybe as much as 66 000 higher than another and those are households with children so for us that is just incredulous it is not where we want to be and we're not satisfied with that and then finally the last one really is probably the most disturbing and that has to do with um 17 through 17.3 years difference on an average for a child in terms of life expectancy so we are we are not ready to give up on any of this we think we are finding creative and innovative ways to solve this and we're solving it with young people and with parenting adults and with professionals so the idea is we're going to need all of us to be working on this and not pointing fingers but instead helping each other out with a couple good things happening thank you yes very nice thank you very much thank you all right we are at that point on our agenda to afford my colleagues sharing board commendations so i'm ready i know mr grimes well thanks dr chet well i've actually got the shortest list that i've ever had and dr roberts covered a bulk of it but um in the intro regarding the bcsc alumni but be too weird for me to not say something so i'll probably repeat a little what he said and maybe add some new so and i think they're worthy of mentioning again jennifer rumsey columbus east purdue mit graduate on being appointed the first woman to ever serve as the ceo of commons and the other that i wanted to mention i happened to go to school with lee bridges north grad who won state track state titles in 84 and 85 in the 400 went on to become an all-american at the university of illinois and just about a week ago i think as dr roberts mentioned uh in finland won the world championships in the 400 for his age group and lee a super nice guy and an incredibly humble guy has a goal of setting the world record in his age group for both the 400 and the 200 within the next year is there a couple events coming up through united states track and field will where he'll have the opportunity to do that so cool stuff for some bcsc alumni there awesome thank you are there others yes well the presentation we had tonight i'd i'd like for heather to carry back to the council uh the board's commendations for the work that the council and all the partner agencies and organizations that are participating in this important work but then also and heather probably won't mention this at the meeting but we're very lucky as a community to have heather in the position that she's in the skills skills experience and persistence that heather brings to the physician has really helped make a difference at the council and in the community at large wonderful thank you i'm not hearing any others and no one has signed up for public comments so we get to move on so i'm turning to my colleagues if you have any reports from committees or work that you've done that you'd like to share please go ahead please thanks dr shan uh just a couple things to the the school foundation school foundation is currently about midway through their annual campaign giving hearts for growing minds a lot of donations coming in white river dental has just signed on as a sponsor for events through the 22-23 school year and the director of the foundation nicole cunningham has has a number of other sponsorship meetings scheduled uh in the near future with several other local companies um the school foundation's also recently refreshed their advertising through through white river broadcasting and also a plug for august 13th to be celebrated perhaps is kind of a close to get back to the beginning of school event brighter futures for all 5k at the soccer complex saturday august 13th 8 30 and walk or run and we hope to have a lot of people there as proceeds will go to the unrestricted fund of the school foundation and you can register at bcsfstars.org awesome thank you for that anyone else i'm not forgetting you pat all the way down there okay just checking all right next we have cabinet reports and it appears the first one is from dr bozeman good evening thank you for giving us a few minutes to about this time of year every year to review some of our projects that we have been working on and continue to work on i will before i do this i will introduce and reintroduce some of our staff greg ferguson is our project manager he's working with primarily parkside and the north and east athletic project now paul garland is our manager of maintenance he is retiring effective friday so we we thank paul for his time in bcsc in several different roles and transitioning to drew mynet who is our new manager of maintenance we're excited to have drew join our team he comes to us from brown county he's a columbus resident and we're happy to happy to have him here so i just want to thank those guys and and introduce you to drew as we talk about some of our improvements that we've we've done here so whenever we talk about our facilities we always remind folks of our guiding values and principles that we that you have helped us develop through strategic planning and otherwise when we we meet with the building principles and leadership each summer and go through needs that exist and and these are not necessarily in particular order but there is special attention to the safe and welcoming we we believe quite firmly that if if students don't feel safe and welcome in our schools and it's it's more challenging to to learn and achieve academic success so so we do use those filters as we look for input from building administrators on how to make improvements to our buildings and how do we budget accordingly i'll talk about a few projects here and certainly leave questions at the end if you have if you have questions or time for questions at the end rather the most of these should not be news to you we've discussed them several times but we are in the midst of a parkside elementary renovation interior renovation to that building somewhere in the neighborhood of about 12 million dollars everything that i'll discuss here tonight are all tax neutral projects i'll remind you of that also at the at the very end but some of these items that are included in parkside would be the inclusion of dedicated stem labs for students emotional wellness centers that i'll show an example here flexible learning spaces technology enhancements and then some exterior site improvements this project as i mentioned is around 12 million dollars and it is on the street as we say for bid right now maxwell is our construction manager as constructor partner with this um and there's been a tremendous amount of time and energy spent on this project to get it out there we're all a little anxious and nervous and et cetera given the current circumstances in the industry but it is on the street and we have several groups that are very interested in this project i'll share a few photos and renderings here with you this is just a photo of a of a current state of a classroom and then the this in this case is a primary classroom so not a tremendous amount of difference in the design and the layout of the classroom so in this case you'll see the windows will be replaced if they haven't been already most of the windows there are due for replacement some have already been done but the cabinetry will be updated the furniture the the flooring you'll notice in this example um the exposed beams are there now and they will remain so there's several items of architectural significance with this building that are very important and that will remain with the project so as you as you look at parkside from the outside you may not notice anything different the barrel roofs are there all the architectural significances that are that are present will remain but many interior innovations the the second example is is a little more obvious with changes so this is looking outside of that same classroom that's the harrison room on the right there which is a large group space on the inside of that wall to the left are boys and girls gang style restrooms and this what this will look like here under renovation from that same view is basically that wall is gone and this is an expanded flexible learning space so in this case this would be maybe a second grade example to where you're looking at two other second grade classrooms across the atrium there and then behind that green wall in the middle would be a small group room so featuring a lot of glass a lot of clean lab type space in here for students students can come out here and learn at the tables while the instructor is inside they can see and kids can move a little more freely between classrooms for instruction in in this example the um the restrooms are behind that small group room so if you picture if you walk through that classroom and turn left there's a coat area there and then two individual restrooms there so the gender neutral and the elimination of those gang style restrooms that that you saw in the in the previous example here so something else of note here the beams the the beams there are beams there but they're behind that drop ceiling so they'll be um exposed again and then you can see the natural light use of the natural light in the space there as well so the i won't get into too much of this but this is a a two-year project that will happen with students in the building of course uh this is too large of a project to just be done over the course of several summers uh parkside and mr smith and miss bodart have been great with working with us on this but they'll utilize uh temporary classrooms to make this happen so they've freed up some space and those temporary classrooms are in a position now to where they're they're ready for students in the four rooms to the bottom right but then once matters are ready to go they'll utilize the gym for additional temporary classroom space and then they basically rotate classrooms through the temporary classrooms in each of the phases which are about nine weeks long each so in this model this has this the first phase completing around christmas of this year which is phase two on your map here the pink color i only know primary color so we'll call that pink and then each of the phases nine weeks in duration through february of of 24.

i mentioned a couple of of particular items that we'll highlight here so these wellness centers which we will include here at parkside elementary goes well in line with with with heather's presentation earlier these are things that we in bcsc value and now we're designing our buildings to reflect that value so in this case if you're a student walking near the office you may turn left for physical wellness to see the clinic and see the nurse or you may turn right to seek emotional wellness where where counselors are and and have dedicated spaces for these these type of services similarly there's a dedicated uh purposeful stem lab in the building uh this is on the west side of the building at parks elementary so in the past you know we've been fortunate with with dr pleek and dr hack and mr phillips to dedicate time and resources and staff for stem instruction at the elementary level and our facilities will start to reflect that as we as we dedicate and build these specific stem labs as we seek to reflect the needs of the community as we've heard loud and clear that this is a priority in columbus athletic improvements this is currently put out to bid scheduled here in early fall or so and the items i have listed there you've seen this before but this will be the construction of a new softball field at east high school baseball field improvements also at east high school a new concession and locker room building field lighting and visitor football bleacher renovations and then the addition of lighting at the baseball and softball fields at north high school serving north high school at south elementary so this project is is going to be broken up into a few different uh bid releases but early falls when we'll put this out on the street so to speak again tax neutral and just as a reminder this is the location where that new softball diamond will be at east high school it's currently a parks and rec uh baseball field that you see that we work really closely with parks and rec with the city for that project so we're excited we're excited to get that out to bid here also soon as well other esser and federal dollar projects that we have that are upcoming hvac hvac improvements at schmidt elementary and then building control projects north and east are already underway we are expecting those to be done by the end of december of 22 and then some cliff some excuse me some hvac control replacements of the the other buildings that are listed and then boiler replacement at northside middle school which is already complete we also have 2.1 million dollars budgeted in 2020 for capital project funds cpf uh this is i don't know how many projects we have 115 or so 112 smaller type projects usually under 100 000 or so at all the buildings including this one so it's a sampling of some of those projects that i have listed here security camera upgrades and art renovation at fadria we have a lot of buildings that are in need of restroom renovations so we we tackle those and then other flooring needs i have a few photos to show with you show of these items here it's a new renovated gym floor at richards elementary that's that's drew looking over like a proud father of the gym floor there he seems very happy with the way it looks uh rock creek elementary had some elevation um issues to address there and made some improvements there rock creek this is the bus slot at north high school that's been seal coated and painted but more importantly the installation of the safety bollards here if you've been by there in the afternoons you'll see a lot of kiddos out there transitioning between buses so under that safety category of our guiding values and principles this was a need identified a lot of flooring changes that's north high school athletic training center that's a two-year project that's complete now on the right and as i mentioned a lot of bathroom renovations i won't i won't share with you all the bathroom photos but there's a sample there for you some cabinetry at rock creek elementary some other interior improvements at taylorsville elementary then the final photo i have here for you carpet replacement third floor at east high school that carpet was due for replacement after it was end of life from the from the renovation in in 2009 or so so that's a that's the second phase of a three-phase project there at east high school so just a sampling of some of the cpf projects that we have i've been working on throughout the calendar year and continue to do so and i am happy to and the team is happy to answer any questions that you may have thanks so much day hofdwyer is dying to ask a question go ahead yes i am columbus north athletic room so what how i'm trying to choose my words wisely here um so i know as a past student there and other students there is some art behind the wall that was done in the athletic office area there's a wall that's only so big that they could put the skinniest kid through and actually see this art so and then i also know seniors have signed the ceiling tiles and done stuff on the wall is there any way that we could preserve that somehow some way whether it's taking photographs it's doing something because i know when i was there i know of the the big mural that a student did that's behind the hidden mall because i actually got to see it when it was done so it's part of history as we talk about history and there's we just have is there any way we can save any of that we will do our best i'm i'm glad you said hidden wall because i was going to because i don't know what that is but now you have me intrigued and i'll go look at it before i go into the office first thing in the morning i'm looking greg he's shrugging his shoulders so without giving empty promise we will look at it and do our best and i'm going to find the hidden wall myself okay well if you need some assistance there's someone in the audience that also knows about the hidden wall because when mr souter before he left we all talked about the hidden wall and elizabeth dwyer can assist you in locating the hidden wall noted thank you who knew all right are there other questions anyone has for dr bozeman all right there is a lot going on thank you so much and thank the whole team thank you for everything you're doing for our students and our staff now it's dr please turn good evening here to give an update on our pathway to teacher licensure last year if you recall we came to your approval to use user funds to help recruit and retain teachers and look for creative ways so we launched a paraeducator pathway and we hired we currently have seven individuals hired in full-time positions going to school to obtain their bachelor's degree for us so that is working very successfully it's a four-year commitment from us and we're excited for that and so an update is we are continually asked what else we're going to do what other approaches staff members are asking the doe is also asking corporations to be as creative as possible with recruiting and retaining teachers there are a lot of articles going across the state about the over 2 400 jobs posted in education across our state and i figured you might ask so we have a 19.5 openings currently for our positions for teachers but our next two opportunities that we launched last monday we started met with jana from the republic had an interview there we launched recordings on qmix we sent emails to all of our building lists as well as community agencies sharing our new announcement we had on qmix i have to mention we had stacey dao our teacher of the year record it so it's great hearing her she did a great job but the two that we have that we are going to do this year and track and monitor is a transition to teaching pathway paraeducator and it is for educators that have bachelor's degrees currently that are interested in becoming teachers but they don't feel that they're ready for a classroom yet they want to gain some experience um forefront in the classrooms because at this time currently people with bachelor's degrees not in education can apply for education or teaching positions go back to school and work at that time but last year we kept hearing from a lot of them that were interested but they weren't ready for the teaching position yet so we launched two initiatives last week one is for to hire is people with bachelor degrees that want to become teachers as instructional tas in the areas whether it's elementary or secondary and in the content area that they choose for them to apply for the position the position was posted last monday we have information sessions one was tonight and the other one is wednesday night we had 30 attend this evening we have 62 signed up to learn more that have bachelor's degrees so we're excited the other thing that we mentioned is we currently do have teachers in our classrooms on emergency permits or transition to teaching permits and we will probably hire some that will need to do that as well before school starts so that we're looking at a tuition reimbursement for teachers up to six credits each semester there will be an mou memorandum of understanding that both groups will sign for both of these initiatives but it's just trying to be as creative with esther dollars as possible and to maximize the funding to help meet our strategic plan our vision of being the choice to learn work and play and also in our focus area of excellence and high expectations to attract and retain a diverse high quality staff and part of that is implementing an educator development and recruitment program so these are the new next two steps we will be taking um to do our best to attract and retain the best educators in front of our students so i wanted to give you the update there a lot going on any questions with that right any questions yeah miss friends yeah dr pleek um i've actually got i think three former students who have bachelor's degrees they currently do not like their their profession and have expressed an interest to me in becoming teach in becoming teachers so i told them i would investigate and get back to them so um who would be the would you or someone else here be the best contact person for me to recommend them to come to here give them my email address please bcsc yeah yes me send it to me very good thank you absolutely and so with that i will mention that when we get into it they have to apply for the position we are going to interview but we will have elementary and secondary principals serving on the interview teams because i told them this is a very important thing that we were doing and these people could actually be sitting as teachers next year in our classroom so we need to hire the best ones this year so they're ready next year awesome awesome other questions all right thank you so much i appreciate the initiatives mr phillips good evening dr shed board members thank you this is the second quarter financial report go over each quarter i'll go relatively quickly because there's not a lot of uh variants to point out to you from a revenue perspective education fund up about six and a half percent which is expected with the adm growth and per pupil tuition support operations fund and operating fund both up about five and a half little more than five and a half percent with mainly due to assessed value growth in the last year an expenditure side the the biggest variance here it looks like we're spending less on salaries and benefits this is an awkward year because there are only for bcsc anyway there were only 12 pays in the first six months of this year there's usually 13 and 13.

thank you mr president members of the board and dr smith we are on part six of student achievement this will close out our 21-22 school year in terms of data related to board goals um this uh first report is around ilearn so last week the ilearn scores were unembargoed so we now are able to talk about specific numbers so just to review from our last meeting our island is reported in four different categories above above proficiency at approaching and below and so we'll talk about it in that context this evening your board goal is about increasing uh by 10 percent the number of students designated at the top three categories so really that means decreasing below proficiency by ten percent so this is the data that i shared with you last time that was just um general data about the subgroups and grade levels that met the board goal 12 of 13 schools had individual subgroups that met the 10 percent growth in ela for grade levels we had five of six grade levels that improved proficiency rates we had five of six cohorts that also improved proficiency rates so now here's the specific numbers that now we're able to to share so the way that this chart is laid out you can see by grade level the number of testers the total percent passing and that includes the above category as well as the at category and the percentage of students in the approaching category as well as below and so if the box is coded as green that means that we showed improvement either in the grade level or in the cohort from 2021.

always balances out for the most part this is just an awkward year both of the three pay months for us this year are in in the second half of the year so the variance there is entirely due to the fact that in the first half of last year we paid covet stipends and because we only had 12 pays in the first six months of this year i'll also point out that um just to remind you we did a two-year teacher contract last year when we gratified that negotiating and the deal with the teachers and so that starts in august and will also take effect in the second half of this year just to refresh your memory that was about 6.1 increase for teachers and changed the minimum salary for starting salary to 44 600 and the maximum to ninety thousand dollars with the operating referendum in there i thought i'd refresh your memories about that there's no other reason for us to talk about that at this point uh in the year unless we're negotiating um on the operation side expenditures the salaries and benefits look more balanced there mainly because folks get paid for the work they do by hour in those months regardless of how many pays there were as well as the nine percent increase that we put into effect for all support staff in july of last year had already taken effect in the first half of this year this does not reflect the more recent increases that you approved last month on operating referendum no notable variances there teacher salaries higher than what they were in the last year and we expect that to continue to creep up as more and more teachers are retained and hit those those experience increases that are part of that operating referendum as far as a fund cash balances point at this point in the year this is with any tax anticipation warrants that we had we did not borrow any tax anticipation warrant money this year in the operations fund again due to the large cash balance we didn't need it and uh also in the debt service funds and so you can see those look lower than they were before um i know dr shed you usually ask questions about the health and dental trust because we've all experienced some pain in there in the prior years the decline there is about seven hundred thousand dollars over um last year so the cash balance between health and dental combined is about seven hundred thousand dollars less than it was last year thankfully that represents about one paycheck that's how much money comes out of between bcsc's contributions and the employees contributions um that is about one paycheck and so that's exactly what's missing in the 12 pays we had in the first year so had we had 13 pays in the first six months of this year that would be a we would have about the same exact cash balance that we had last year at this time awesome thank you when you take algae [Laughter] do these enough you anticipate the questions when you take the taxi anticipation warrant money out of the picture this is the actual cash balances at the uh projected i guess if you projected this six months through the end of the year after we pay back any of the tax anticipation warrants and you can see in most cases the balances are healthy and a little bit higher than what they were last year happy to answer any questions you might have thanks well mine's taken care of any other questions that you all have well it's great news thank you for sharing great news with us all right it's your turn dr roberts all right i have a number of approval requests as is typical i'll start off with letter a through e being ones that we typically have i guess letter e is a little bit of a change um minutes of regular school board meeting from june 13th supplemental contracts um school fundraisers claims and payroll then we have slipped in that letter e 2022-2023 reopening plan and we have a statement there and i'll need to clarify that just for you for a little bit if you recall the last couple of years our reopening plan has been pretty detailed we've had a lot of conversation on that um it's it's a little bit more simple this year but things that uh that revolve around safety aren't always the most simple there will be some complications i'll talk about here just a second but the statement that we have on our website that is required for esser funding so this is a requirement to continue to receive esser funds as you have to have something basically saying you're going to have a reopening plan to go back to school and so that statement says that we plan to return to in-person full-day instruction with no covet 19 restrictions for the upcoming school year pending approval by you all now that no covert 19 restrictions i don't want that to be too confusing what we are trying to say here is that we're basically starting next year as we ended the last year so so masks and specific social distancing all those kind of very specific things that we put in place are not necessarily a part of the plan however you know we still will stress the hand washing pieces and we have all the the sanitation areas available for washing hands and all the things that we put in place over a couple of years period of time to be more safe than we were before will continue as a normal part now of our processes and procedures but we have no specific recommendations to you to start the school year differently for this next one than we ended the last school year so that's still continuing the virtual pathway yes correct yes so as a really just a new pathway for us right is our columbus virtual pathway a real quick aside or note on that is that uh and i said i think all of you know regarding this we did ask for a waiver for this year for that that pathway not to yet be considered a school because there are things that come along with being at school different reporting requirements and other other stuff and so we did ask for a waiver for a year to make sure we understand what that enrollment is going to look like longer term and we were granted that waiver in addition we may have had to come to you with a calendar revision if uh our waiver for the calendar had not been granted which does still allow us to have the professional development day so just a quick aside uh somewhat related to the reopening plan well i'm on this topic and i said that you know safety anything related to safety is is not always a simple covet 19 we're going to start the year as we ended the last school year but other things from a safety standpoint we are having to pay close attention to yesterday was kind of an interesting day from a reflection standpoint in in a bad way really and that the investigative report on the uvalde tragedy came out and i don't know if you've had a chance to see that but there's some stuff that we'll we'll learn from but a lot of a lot of issues challenges problems and then there was a tragic incident that occurred at the greenwood park mall and i think that everybody is now aware that the citizen involved with interrupting the shooting at the mall was a student of ours a 2018 csa new tech graduate eli dicken is is that individual's name i think eli now lives in seymour but was a bartholomew county kid and graduated from our school system and we were certainly grateful that that eli was able to distract the shooter from taking more lives in that that situation but we're also sorry that eli had to be involved in such a tragic incident and certainly offer our condolences to the families who did still lose loved ones um as as we reflect on those things it i just want to let you remind you that the norm for us uh regardless of the stuff that's happening and we certainly acknowledge them pay attention to them and try to learn them but we we use the time that we're given like this summer to review all of our structures buildings facilities all our processes protocols that we have in place to still to try to provide the safest learning environment for our kids so whether it's talking about covet 19 and whatever it takes to to to try to protect kids from any virus or spread of disease we're also looking at all those other things that are on fresh in our mind right now unfortunately we know the safety and we've talked a lot with again kind of an amazing night in terms of my coincidence to some degree having a couple of approvals and heather being here to talk about the plan that we know that it's safety is a priority and it's necessary to achieve the key purpose of our existence which is to have kids learn and students who feel safe both emotionally and physically are going to learn is very difficult to do so if they don't so we will continue to have discussions with you in regards to stuff that we're doing we have ideas thoughts uh some things we'll share with our administrative council as we get ready some of them are reminders what we learned that sometimes over time even though we have processes and protocols in place maybe those aren't always followed to the degree that they should be a door open perhaps or left open perhaps so so we'll remind and also talk about improvements uh we do have a strategic planning session with you all on friday the 29th in safety and what we're doing to start the school year will be a topic that we'll discuss further with you so i want to build that into this conversation that covered 19 is a safety related thing and we've done things with coven 19 and closing school and never really closing school we had school but it was just a very different way kids maybe not in person all the time they will be in person parents for full day instruction to begin the 22-23 school year we're not asking for mass and that doesn't there are not mass on the bus so those kinds of things so we're trying to be clear with that statement make sure people understand if you go to our website because it is under our cover 19 tab so that's the way we've chosen to word it hopefully you'll accept that wording and understand what we're referring to there letter f that i have is just that neola policy second reading 5330 that is on use of medication in our school buildings and just a little bit different times perhaps whereas things change we note those legislative changes and what's now allowed and that was the low thc hemp where there are prescriptions being given to students and if that is the case there's a way for that to be handled within our schools as our other prescribed medications we just wanted to point that out you had the first reading on that one back in june so those are i believe each of my approvals let me see here just making sure to clarify the claims we did from a claims and payroll standpoint have um a total of almost three million dollars for july 18th today and then we had a pre-run of june 1st june 30th a little over 13 million dollars um the payroll for june 4th to or a set of payrolls through june 4th july 1st is a little over 5 million dollars um you see the information there about how that works out so those are the items that i have for your approval this evening all right thanks so i'll um entertain a motion to approve items a through f as dr roberts has presented them to us thank you miss brian in a second second thank you mr grimes are there questions individuals have about any of the a through f stuff all right hearing none all those in favor of items a through f as they've been presented to us if you'd signify by saying i i those opposed not a soul so they are passed unanimously thank you very much all right we do choose to end each of our meetings with the opportunity for individuals to offer input or comment based on all the information that we've heard so i'll start with mr grimes um just want to say thank you to mrs carson for taking the time to be here this evening and sharing all the current work going on at cyd and the master plan for the future so thank you thank you miss dan congratulations to you ladies for getting voted in and we look forward to seeing your great work thank you mr stenner uh just you know my colleagues have started the work that we've talked about tonight council for youth development our multicultural coordinator and our director of wellness very important work wonderful thank you mr stenner mr bryant way down there [Laughter] yes i did and what chair were you thinking of chairs you were just helping a person across the gymnasium just one more reference to the couple hires we had tonight i should have mentioned this earlier but just a reminder that angie is replacing kimberly easton um and kimberly had done a great job of moving several things forward for us and angie did mention those guiding teams and trying to move it forward but as we as we learned this thing's kind of moving and kathy mentioned history and and remembering history and then trying to figure out how we get better as we move forward i know that angie will do that and kristin is replacing an individual who did a great job getting our counseling counts things started i mentioned dr moore but just want to make sure that he has has some credit there a big team and we kind of reference that again with the the hel the uh council fee development work and so forth but a lot of effort over what has it been five five years six years now five um six yeah so 16 i guess so very much looking forward to kristin taking that moving that forward as well as all the other things to work with heather and others in this community to take care of some of the needs we have like that data though it took a few minutes to talk about so congratulations to them once again sure well i do want to give credit to our leadership thank you for thinking about needing a wellness coordinator and finding the funds to do that because it is incredibly important work and i'm glad that we are great partners with the council for youth development our next meeting is until august 8th school will have started by then i know everyone has lots of work to do to get there i know you're excited about that but just know ahead of time how much we appreciate and honor the work that it takes to get us ready for school to start on august 4th right it is thursday the 4th correct we do have a strategic planning session a week from friday here it will be here in the administration building and then we will be here after school has started and we'll all be so pumped and families will be so thrilled i've heard this from our colleague miss wilden she'll be so thrilled that her children are back in school so we wish everybody enjoying a very safe end of their summer um get those last minute things that you love to do and so that you will be excited and ready to go for august 4th so with that i'll call this meeting adjourned thank you thank you oh man

if the box is labeled red then we did not show growth or improvement and so you can see for these subgroups overall black hispanic and white particularly in grades three through six all green cells so tremendous growth in our elementary schools in ela the most growth coming at third grade um start really surpassing uh significantly surpassing the growth of the state of indiana in third grade in every subgroup and so we're pleased with our youngest learners for sure um you can tell in seventh grade we have some some transition issues that we need to continue to work with our middle school middle schools on they did show an overall increase in both grade levels but we've got some red cells in that seventh grade that will be an area of focus for us and for our middle schools this slide is the the remaining subgroups multi-racial sped el and free and reduced launch and as i've shared with you before our el subgroup is our fastest growing subgroup i'm 312 more test takers in 2022 than in 2021 so with that significant of an increase in that subgroup we're pleased to see the amount of green that we have there math laid out similarly but we did see more significant growth in math in um more subgroups and you know in our district in order to really really move the needle significantly we've got to have our black subgroup growing and we've got to have our hispanic subgroup growing and we do see some of that in mathematics all schools had individual subgroups that met the 10 growth goals so across the district every single school and the number beside each subgroup is the number of subgroups that grew by the 10 percent growth goal and that that 10 percent growth goal is significant um highly significant and highly accelerated that is well beyond what typical expectation would be um and we do have a significant number of subgroups that met that goal six of six grade levels improved proficiency in mathematics all of our cohorts showed improvement in the elementary school middle school again is where our issue is for mathematics with a decrease in both cohorts even though they improved at the grade level the cohort did not improve so as we look at our specific numbers very similar to ela in terms of our trend where we've got significant growth in our elementary schools again third grade far surpassing the state of indiana for surpassing indiana or at marion county in terms of growth we've got one cell in sixth grade that we do need to to pay attention to with our black subgroup and then again seventh and eighth grade is where our focus needs to be and these are the remaining subgroups for mathematics again el um pleased to see the green that we have there given the considerable number of increased test takers that we have so in terms of our next step i've given you a big picture district overview the story really is told at each school and working with each school leadership team to analyze their data to develop their very specific action plan and it's different school by school because the results are different school by school i mean and it's important as we begin that analysis with our building level teams that we celebrate the 2022 wins our buildings have been working hard our principals and our teachers have been working hard and every school has something to celebrate and so beginning with that celebration beginning with what is working in buildings then helps us focus on those areas that that need particular attention culturally responsive instruction to move the needle in our district we must have our black and hispanic subgroups growing at the highest levels they grew this year but we want to see more and so we kicked off our lawrence learning summit this morning we're pleased with the attendance that we have and the entire four days of professional development is geared around every session that we have around equitable student outcomes and having that be the focus of learning for the entire district this week um we continue to see in bullet point four we continue to see the correlation between our rigor diagnostic scores when those grow test scores grow and that's been true with every single test that we've had in the state of indiana over the last several years so as our instructional framework gets stronger and we see growth in that leading indicator that translates to higher proficiency and higher growth on our state testing we also have some curricular updates that we're doing that you've already approved for next school year 22-23 and we're doing that training this week and then we're continuing our math program review for next school year the next one's really important this is our research-based interventions and supports and much of the growth that we're seeing in our sped subgroups we did outpace the state in sped as well and the el subgroups is because of the research-based programmatic focused interventions and supports and you've heard me talk about them before we've got many going on during the school day we also have our cadre of retired teachers who are coming in and serving many of these students as well as jumpstart and so that's all wrapped up into to that bullet point and then we've got to continue to work with our middle schools around that transition from sixth grade to seventh grade and mr harsher was leading a professional development this afternoon for our team leaders at the middle school of really creating that small environment for our students as they're transitioning from their elementary school into the their middle school and being focused on that that support and that's a reset that we've had to do from pre pandemic to now moving out of the pandemic so would be happy to entertain any questions or discussion questions comments for mr notre on our student achievement you very much for the hard work that you and your team have done and all of our teaching staff and our building leaders to make this possible can i have a couple of um questions one how does lawrence township look versus the statewide growth rate i know that a lot of times what's reported in the paper is the achievement rate and i would like to know how we are doing with our growth rate first of all so the the state hasn't reported growth rate yet um but i can tell in the proficiency rates that in some grade levels we in in subgroups were outperforming the state third grade is one that i can tell right off the top even though we don't have growth data from the state yet i can just tell from the proficiency rates were so much higher our growth was so much higher than the state average that were well above the average the other place surprisingly was eighth grade um we we even though we're struggling a little bit with our eighth grade and in terms of our own internal data so is the rest of the state and and i guess our students particularly in ela had higher proficiency rates than the rest of the state the other place that we're seeing it is in sixth grade so sixth grade at the state level actually had a decline in ela so lost ground across the state where we showed an increase and so um you know the rest of our subgroups are pretty much in line with the the rest of the the state of indiana but um third grade far surpasses the the growth at the state level that is fabulous and um and you touched on this in the notes but it seems to me that you know we have been doing rigor now for several years in our at our elementary level and we see this continued growth um we've not been doing the rigor as long as at our middle schools so we we have a lot of room to improve that rigor piece at our middle schools correct absolutely in our secondary schools were most impacted by the pandemic in terms of the the momentum of our instructional framework you're right they started two years later in the elementary we're just getting going and then the pandemic hit so we have lots of resetting to do and not in our second year those that attended our middle school this year they were all new students they didn't have any any models absolutely ahead of them so you know kudos to the staff thank you very much any other questions or comments mine was just going to be a comment but you you guys have touched on it that's what i was reading over my multiple cups of joe today was uh statewide that six and eighth had a decrease and so it was awesome to see just where we have excelled in other areas so that was encouraging as well as having the layout as to what our next steps are so again thank you second any other questions or comments thank you mr noah so mr president we do have a second uh report for you on student achievement if you want to entertain that so this is our internal assessment so we've talked about ilearn which is the statewide test our internal assessment is fast bridge reading and math and you also have a board goal around that a growth of 10 percent in the number of students meeting grade level proficiency and in some ways this data point is even more important than the state data point states once a year um we administer fast bridge up to five times a year and so this really allows us to to know where our kids are and so for your uh review we administer in may at the end of the year so this is after i learn this is nationally normed so this is a nationwide assessment that and the cut scores change throughout the year as students get older the cut score goes up and this year-to-year comparison is really important in the analysis of are we accelerating our unfinished learning um are do we have more proficiency in 2022 than we had in 2021 and so we'll quickly just take a look at each grade level this is reading for kindergarten you can see in that last column the percentage of growth of students at proficiency in kindergarten and we know this is where it begins so this foundation is important first grade you can see grade level growth which is the the growth in grade level from year to year and then the cohort growth the growth that they showed from kindergarten second grade very similar third grade again as i've said third grade has been a strong point for us because of all of the early literacy work that we've done over the last several years fourth grade this matches some of the ilearn data that we saw there's a little bit of a concern in fourth grade that we're digging into school by school double-digit growth in fifth grade sixth grade this seventh grade data is different than the ilearn data and in some ways um really speaks to the instructional framework change that we've made at the middle schools and that we are seeing that growth from 2021 to 2022 even within the cohort so the the cohort means that they grew from when they were in sixth grade to now where they are in seventh grade so this is encouraging data for us that is a little bit more at a micro level compared to ilearn and then very very strong growth in eighth grade which matches our ilearn growth as well switch over to math double digit growth in kindergarten as well as in first grade a little bit of a cohort issue in second grade and this is a great level we've been paying close attention to because all three years of their education have been impacted by the pandemic kindergarten first grade and second grade nice growth in third grade fourth this should say math data i didn't change the title on this but it's math data for fifth grade sixth grade again seeing that growth in seventh grade as well as eighth grade so our analysis points here are very similar to what i've already shared with you for i ilearn the higher the rigor diagnostic data the higher the the school growth data is and this really does indicate that our students are growing at accelerated rates and that we are recovering unfinished learning from the the pandemic and we are beginning to see that transfer over into our i learn scores we still have a significant racial disparity in this data and so that matches i learn and that really is our focus as i said this week for our equitable student outcomes professional development so the next steps are very similar to what i just shared with ilearn questions comments fast bridge david when it's good reports troy we are quiet i'm glad to be able to bring you good reports thank you for all the hard work absolutely for the focus on the errors that we need to focus on continue to highlight celebrate our achievements but we still know there's a lot of work to be done absolutely thank you so much i've been on this board for 10 years and along with carol i think every year but we don't see the achievement improving we don't see improvement we don't see improvement and this this is a great deal of improvement and a very difficult time and it's very nice to see this thank you thank you viola policy updates our first reading dr harshbarger mr president dr smith members of the board good evening tonight i bring thank you rjb for coming down from chicago to be with us um and then finally i just um am thinking of the district as i know you guys get ready for the new school year my mom was a principal so i know that this is kind of high gear time so um again appreciate all you do and as a parent thank you okay that's all i have sorry thank you mr freezey so since we're running you know a little bit early here [Laughter] i as some of you know from uh last year we were the first time gardeners with a large garden in our yard and this is connected to the school because we provide our kids hopefully with fresh food and many of our families have gardens and the city of lawrence has a farmer's market every thursday from four to seven check it out if you haven't already however this is like a safety tip that i'm bringing to you all tonight we do have abundant peppers we have abundant radishes we thought our squash was behind and so we saw these green sort of things coming out and then we let them get yellow and they were starting up and we thought oh good well unfortunately some of our more expert gardeners were out of town for a couple weeks namely our kids who follow this more closely sometimes than brenda and i but brenda and i had mistaken what we thought were squash plants they were really cucumber plants and we took those nice yellow orange things they were overrun however however we have a directed course now and now we have abundant green cucumbers oh i just want to report the state thank you for those uh wonderful tips mr freezey no problem did someone have a question pertaining to the tip to them y'all will miss me in another session ms mustard well and yes good good luck our best wishes are with everyone as the years begins um thank you mr president for beginning our meeting with happy new year it is a happy new year it's a fresh start and fresh starts are pretty wonderful and as for the parks department um i i will report that the lawrence bark park at lee road park is doing splendidly we enjoy that almost every day that's it thank you miss mustard yes miss crystal three quick bulleted points first one being mr friji i'm a novice gardener myself and realized yesterday that i thought i was growing snap peas and they were tomatoes i feel that one second point that's the whole experience that was a whole journal journal entry there um summer servings oh my gosh thank you so much for our food service summer servings was awesome and i also went to different sites just to get the experience they always had a smile and they were always kind and that means a lot and so just seeing even the the kids react so that's why i had to ask about my summer servings so they are much um appreciated and thank you for serving our kiddos and lastly you know i got to add this for one of my favorites brene brown says that the wholehearted rest in play i know they were gearing up in high gear but i'm hopeful that in these nuggets of time that you're able to find some rest find some play time to kind of woosah before the school year really takes off so i sincerely mean that prayers that you all have that time to rest and play somewhere in there and thank you i thank you so much for all that you do that's it for me your vocabulary is uh wusa yes that keeps it real yeah [Laughter] expressing how i felt i'm very expressive yeah thank you for expressing yourself in an enduring way miss crystal well thank you sir let me talk a little bit about the new year for us as a board education as a district as we are going into our election season for the public there will be two seats on the ballot for our school board and we encourage all those who are eligible to look into if you're eligible to look into becoming members of the school board i said that person's like why would you say that register if you might run again because this is a duty an honor and it's rewarding and we're not here forever and it makes sense for us as citizens to become more involved in our communities than ever before we've learned some things in terms of how we are not as effective when we are divisive now is the time for us to come together be together show strength and continue to get the numbers we see based on the leadership from this school board so encourage those two who are eligible to look into that also on the minds of our community as sad as it may sound for some of us and for others there's a concern around the safety of our schools i want the community to know as a school board the leadership administration that we have a strategy in place to keep our students safe not just our students and faculty but at all our events as well so my ask dr smith and i was august the september meeting just to give us a highlight of what we're doing to make sure that our families know that the safety of our students and our faculty and all those who come to our schools that is a priority for us so it's a high level where we are in terms of keeping people and our students our precious students safe also as a school board going into this year we know there are some external factors affecting our families inflation is real for our families the cost of fuel is real for our families the cost of you for our district is real for our families these even the war not knowing what's going to happen with the war how it uh affect our supply chain trickles down to lawrence township i want the community to know that as a board we are looking at everything we can to ensure that we continue to operate efficiently in the school district even the decision that was made tonight for our employees the beta offered in better services than what we can offer and to also make sure that we have a better quality of doing the things that we are not the best at doing most of us in this room your job is to make sure we can educate our kids now everybody that's employee that works in this district is part of our family it doesn't matter what uniform you wear you're part of lawrence township and you're part of our family i want our community to know that we don't make decisions and silo and i'll be the first to admit yes i had a lot of questions about the decisions being made and yes i was on the bubble but i am convinced and proud to say as a board and as administration that we're making the right decisions for our employees in addition to that we know the pandemic is not over we know that and there's talk conversation that this fall we might go back to them as there might be some mandates we have learned as a board making decisions with our families and students in at the forefront of what we do that's not going to change the mask is a choice that we embrace whatever the case may be we will continue to focus on the safety from the health side of our employees and students and last but not least let's go on to when said we know that the mental illness in this country is real social emotional learning crises are real in all demographics all zip codes all ages and i'm glad to say that we have some things in place to address those one thing we always say at our company while work if there's something you see that need to be addressed bring it up to somebody so we can address it do not make the assumption that somebody got that if you see something that needs to be changed and you can change it please change it if you have questions maintaining to the safety of a child please do something about that it starts with all of us in this school district i'm proud to serve in lawrence township i'm proud of this brand new year that we're going to start off from a financial standpoint we're in good shape mr street and then most that we can do the things we're doing as people look at the buildings that's going up keep in mind the building's just one piece of it but it's the people inside those buildings that make us the city make us the district of destination so we salute all our teachers principals custodial workers our maintenance staff our bus drivers our cafeteria workers everybody that touched a family in this school district and now rjb that includes you we want you to know that they are family first for us so board let's get ready for a happy new year important new year and one that is going to record us to take care of some business so we look forward to serving thank you dr smith greg you got the team ready to run out of the tunnel we're ready to get on you sound like coach lombardi here didn't it all right thank you mr president well and to build on that we need to give thank you because this past weekend was a week was a week of celebrations and so dana i want to thank you and sean bush for your efforts with indiana black expo as we pushed out into the community both being very important events dana was in charge of our expo and exhibits and then sean and troy and troy kudos also we participated in the black expo education conference and so it was a privilege for our people to be there and be well represented and supporting a major part of our community as we do in lawrence township mr president i heard you loud and clear mr smith myself along with jim paris we will be addressing safety and security in an upcoming newsletter that we'll send out to families and remind them of the commitment that we make to safety and security in this community we do some things in this district that other districts don't we have some very heartened things that we do when we require people to enter our buildings and attend our major events but in light of what's going on around the country and in particular yesterday in the city of indianapolis greenwood next indianapolis we are definitely concerned and so with us having 16 000 students and thousands of people entering our buildings and around we just send a message to them that we need your help as a community to assure that these young people have a bright future and our staff is well taken care of so we need the entire community to join us we'll remind the community some of the things we do are very confidential and private but on the other side of it we want our community to know that we do have armed officers that we have safety and security around us during the day and the evening at our events and we're certainly going to review our practices work closely with our partners in the city of lawrence and city of indianapolis to get even better roger and jim so we thank you and that's all i have mr president thank you dr smith board i will next weekend we'll have a meeting a joint meeting uh august 15th it will begin at 5 30.

states of america and to the republic for which it god stands with liberty and justice okay for agenda item 1.4 resolve that the brownbrook board of education designates rasha nasser as the acting board secretary for the july 18 2022 board of education meeting can i have a motion thank you mr foster a second second thank you mr fowle uh all in paper all right any opposed any abstentions okay russia the floor is yours can you do a roll call please yes here miss deposia here mr dawson mr [Music] here thank you all right um for my president's comments just a few brief updates uh it's been the better part of the month since we all got together made it through graduations i hope you're all enjoying the first part of your summer as is everybody at home um the primary activity i think we've been engaged as a board really has been negotiations with the uh bbea we're continuing to meet regularly with them and working through our combined proposals we have another meeting i think as a negotiations committee tomorrow tentatively and then a regroup meeting with the ea on wednesday so just continuing to try and make progress there with the goal continuing to be to have a contract mutually agreeable contract in place before the school year starts um in addition to that i think we need to try and plan a board retreat as we've been talking about for the last couple of meetings um uh after speaking with dr freeman late last week we're thinking about reaching out to school boards association to have gwen potentially come in and do a facilitated session with us go through where we are in our strategic plan help us set some goals for the coming school year maybe do a board evaluation so expect an invitation or at least a request for your availability um within the next week or so so that we can start to target some dates and get that on i think that's all i will offer for my president's comments this evening do we want to move on to the superintendent's report or dr mormont's presentation at first correct yes hello everybody you guys are welcome okay more crazy [Music] hello everybody so as you guys know the state of new jersey requires uh school districts to report out twice to the board of hiv numbers as well as violence and analysis uh numbers for the school year so you heard from me last in early winter with the mid-year report and now this is the full-year report uh for hiv violence okay so first our district totals um we're in person all year so that's reflected in the difference between this year and last year we're getting more towards our our numbers pre-pandemic and as i said um the last time we had a professional in front psa principals and supervisors association to train myself our administrators and all of our hiv specialists on on protocol procedures how to interpret the law et cetera training so that was very helpful okay so now we're going to break them down school by school bambrook had 19 investigations 11 were confirmed getting close to the 1920 numbers community had 31 investigations with 10 confirmed hivs smallie grades 336 as you know 23 investigations 11 confirmed hivs and pre-k through grade 2 we did not have any investigations this year although i did just get something across my desk so so you guys will be seeing that soon but you saw overall our numbers were down uh from from two years ago um with hiv overall any questions on hiv before i move on to violence and vandalism so the first one the relative percentage of cases that seem to be confirmed oddly is almost identical between 2019 and 20 and 21 22 is that indicative of how that relationship has been historically is it stabilizing or does that not tell us my opinion on that would be that's how it is historically yeah okay so that's good to know and then my other question is are there since we have to obviously publish information to the state are there any available resources that we could compare the the categorizations of the hips are they ever crossed over is there ever like a vandalism and substance weapons and substance where it would be two two hits for the same um one hit at a time okay if if something else develops during the investigation okay what we found that it's cleanest to begin another separate investigation on what came up okay okay because too many blurred lines when you try to do it all at once so if a student falls into two of these then it would be two separate hips yeah for that same student yes okay thank you sure okay uh on some violence and vandalism so district-wide um we had 19 incidents total uh violence and vandalism and then now i don't know why i have 19 incidents total it's more it's more than that sorry about that um but this uh this uh listing also includes the confirmed uh hips wait a minute oh i'm sorry i'm in i'm in high school i thought it was district wide okay all right so that's the high school but still 19 incidents total is still off yeah all right sorry about that that's okay we'll ignore the totals yeah um this was pre-vacation where i put this together all right so community community we had six incidents of violence um two incidents of vandalism two incidents of substances um the ten confirmed hips also a community we had 36 other incidents that led to removal from school yes that didn't uh 36 of those incidents that led to suspension that didn't fall into those above categories um so when you say like seven incidents is that the total number of violence vandalism because it should it should have been left is this in case then when there's a crossover like two of those like the vandalism interceptions went with the violence so that was all one incident is that those were all separate those were all separate incidents okay so there were six total of violence two total of vandalism and so on and there were 36 at the middle school that that led to suspension through expulsion yeah um so we took a look at that today um because it's a it's a significant number yeah um the first one is um improper combat during a fire drill to a significant level something that the teacher or the administrator could not put out right away um so so it led to that um yeah so they were all uh they were all um i guess acts of uh insubordination that didn't fit into one of those categories i thought we had asked a while ago correctly from reports when people were getting suspended that we were supposed to get that information so that we could you know because because at one point the board felt that they were relying too heavily on removing kids from school because that was not something we wanted to see so i don't know what happened to that it's something that we're going to we're actually starting to talk today when using these numbers that's a lot of dates we're going to we're going to put something in place where we report out and we're going to work on the actual length of suspensions number of suspensions and interventions we can put in place right because if we call ourselves restorative justice and that doesn't look very restorative right you know we talk today we're going to put a plan in place where we start to put interventions in place so we can be more restorative rather than putting kids out of school because we know what that does right behind i know and if you if you do it repeatedly you're not really changing any behavior you know so we're gonna have to they have to change look at it and change what we're doing and put some more uh interventions i think it would be helpful too on the verge of removal of how that's identified right so if it's mixed just so you know the expulsion piece that it isn't exposing it would be suspended because it's supposed to means that they couldn't come back right and that would have come forward okay okay so that's not included in that number okay i don't think ever i don't spell it you really can't that doesn't fit under those another one um inappropriate touching um soon filled up a rubber glove with water and threw it at another student i believe in the hallway so this led to an out-of-school suspension all right i mean we get the idea just things that but we definitely need to address it okay so moving on smalley grades 336 did not have any incidents of violence vandalism or substances they just had the confirmed hivs and lafayette had five incidents of violence two of the uh two of those same other incidents that led to removal what were they i [Music] um [Music] no fights being a sixth grade teacher that's a problem i'll work with dr freeman on putting some something together for you guys to look at would it i don't know if this is too much to ask but if you know this is happening at the elementary level is there a way to track if the same student is committing the same types of acts we're able to do that yeah the genesis uh does that okay uh for the principle so the principles have that right you know right in front okay so i also put something together and hiv procedures so uh i put together this is what yes perfect thank you so this is i just want to go through this briefly this is um what we use to train our teachers in hp another step so um we talked about uh the definition and we we focus on what's underlined sorry that it's so small we really focus in on when we're doing these investigations any actual or perceived characteristics such as race color religion etc or a mental physical sensory disability or any other distinguishing characteristic so we try to focus in on that we found this not to be an easy thing how to classify um hivs found that are unfounded the principal may have one opinion the specialist the other i might have a different one but but at the end of the day we'll talk about it and come to uh to a resolution [Music] okay here's our here's your policy of reporting so this basically says any employee has uh has to report it right away you see something that you think is an hiv you report it right away um you call the office you go see the principal and then you have two days to follow up with the written with the written report then we say no emails no messages we talk we're clear with the teachers let them know let the administrators know okay this is what the written report looks like um by the end of the reporting day the principal gets in touch with the parents to say that your child may have been in an act of each other no more information investigation is completed but we make them aware um because we'll be interviewing their their children okay as you guys know each school has an anti-bullying specialist they're the chief investigator interviewer i'm the anti-bullying coordinator i get to see the consistency across the board all schools the school safety climate team meets twice a year to talk about trends in hiv but it doesn't just end at hiv they talk about violence and vandalism they talk about what the trouble spots are in the school and what remedies uh to to make things safer for everybody is there representation from each building or those conducted buildings those are conducted building by building um with a parent administrator teacher a student counselor uh administrator i think i said and then um as far as hiv goes we need monthly um the hiv coordinator and the hiv specialists to talk about all hiv trends okay the proto-quality investigation the timeline the big number is um the specialist has 10 days to come conclusions finish the investigation and come to a conclusion 10 school days not including weekends so we we adhere to that we make we make the conclusion and then you guys hear that at the next board meeting and just in terms of that timeline from in terms of parent contact they would have been contacted at the outset of the investigation and they would not be contacted again until the board has overviewed and approved the recommendation yes okay so it's pretty it's an extended period of time between their first contact and their final year correct correct okay and you guys know that we do the week of respect school violence awareness week these are all initiatives to be proactive have you noticing the numbers actually coming down during the month of october because of those initiatives uh i think it slowly ramps up september um october gets a little bit more and then [Music] yeah so but i think they're i think they're good things i think the students appreciate them they got involved you know best practices to get them involved with with these so awesome all right i thank you for your time appreciate it sorry about those numbers to uh i um know what it's called bullet points to uh bullet points [Music] all right we are up to committee reports and i think our committee meeting schedule has been a little bit disrupted by the end of the year though i imagine we'll want to get those back on the meeting so committee chair back on the calendar so committee chairs just please work with your committee members and our administrators to make sure that we can get something on the books in the very near future i do think we had an operations committee meeting earlier this evening yes roger do you think you feel comfortable going through some of those highlights absolutely first of all i want to thank all of our participants dr freeman i want to say i'm doing this so that really means a lot thank you uh we talked um some of the as all of you know on the board i harp on you know our support our agreements and how wonderful our police are and how we like to have them uh involved into the districts and discuss uh so i was really happy to hear that we updated some projects uh uh as well as a couple different positions uh one uh being the interim va and uh you know one uh um very very uh thorough which i was very happy to hear about um before i end my comments [Music] that's great you roger any questions from the members about operations committee the only thing that i would add is as roger mentioned you'll see information about the interim ba as well as the shared service agreement with the boers to the sleo3 those were both discussed in detail during operations and i think our conclusion from the operations committee was uh in favor of including absolutely [Music] they're not easy to come by so that's why i said it's a partner um that's right we had an immediate need there starting on july one while the administration looks for a permanent replacement which at are expecting to begin this week is that correct yes any other questions or comments from operations okay we are up to item number four this is open to the public for agenda items only any questions from the room no uh do we have any questions online do i you do you've been knighted yeah c probably to the public i went back to my email from when tom sent it to me there are no questions for open to the problem no i have the forms here just so if you open one of the forms and then you click on responses it'll show you if anybody's actually yeah i'm just trying to figure out the best way to figure out which for which form i'm supposed to find that's what i want to make the title is cut off before the date let's put the date first yeah okay so we're done item number four we are up to 5.1 approval of minutes so resolve that the bamboo board of education approves the minutes for the following meetings regular and executive meeting minutes for june 20th 2022.

i have a motion motion thank you mrs defazio a second second thank you mr zipko any discussion questions or amendments abstentions or abstentions [Music] okay hearing none can we have a roll call please mr vaughn yes mr pogba yes [Music] mrs yes miss lima yes mr minmas uh how to say yes okay the motion carries we are up to item 6.1 resolve that the superintendent recommends for approval resolutions as outlined in personnel resolutions under district and high school this is 6.2 through 6.29 wow [Music] you guys have been busy can we have a motion motion thank you mrs defazio ii second thank you mrs cuzino any discussion yeah um obviously there are a lot of people leaving a lot of do how are we as far as people who have left are we still looking how's that going pretty [Music] eight remaining positions out of all those that left between uh the end of the year and now we only have eight open positions and how many of those are classroom teachers most of them yes and then we have fraternities so they'll win long term plus maternity leaves are tricky because it depends on the amount of time that they're gone so we're working to coordinate um overlapping with some leads and he's feeling some things right but um they're gonna be the hardest ones to fill because nobody wants to work for just a small amount of time i know at one point uh taran would report to us like when there are a lot of people that we were able to ask our questions as to you know the exit interviews and stuff like that i know we don't read but she would kind of can we still continue with that because yes yes putting all that together now so we'll have something for you [Music] uh probably for um it's supposed to the school psychologists start in july first yes any other questions so yes what is what's the job what is that job description um i can provide that for you but it's um basically due to the increased number of students registering um marisol needs an additional pair of hands so you know she oversees um all registration in the district so it's just you know verifying their paperwork um contacting the previous schools making sure that their residents in bamboo we needed someone who's bi-labeled to also assist because the number of binaural patterns that we have how are our numbers are we going up again are we kind of consistent well we're just entering into august which is where we usually go up drastically um they have been enrolling students pretty much every day though so yeah i don't have an exact count of numbers but i would say it's consistent with how it has been i don't we haven't seen a dramatic increase um the numbers that we have been watching have been preschool in kindergarten our preschool numbers are starting to climb um kindergarten hasn't been um as hard hit this year yet um but august is the big time it's usually like you know mid-august until the start of school is when we really hit and last year we went into october so it's it's probably going to increase but we'll um we'll start you know taking a closer look at those numbers and letting everybody know we did add a couple of sections you know at the elementary specifically at smalley and at community middle school so that was the increase more space for like you know what i'm saying like that's what it always is like well we're we're we're fun so all those classrooms are being used as classes yes are we still doing like art on the car they don't have like um however we do have you know for example somali will have two art classes going on at a time so one will be um all the other ones in our room vice versa so but we do not have as far as i'm aware besides at the annex we might have one or two open classrooms but now have been taken over for special education therapies and things like that we don't have any classrooms currently i'm impressed 6.18 um that's the spanish national honor society that's a siphon correct and then on 6.21 for the people on here one may have experience um all right so it's a shared position i'm sorry um the top candidate and the bottom candidate if you look at what they're doing one is filling the position seven tenths of the time the other one is three tenths of a time so it's a division of the um it took me a minute to pull it up on the screen any other questions or comments hearing note can we do a roll call please mr bell yes mr moswell yes ms casino yes miss lima yes yes so the motion carries we are up to number 7.1 resolve that the superintendent recommends for approval the resolutions as outlined in personnel resolutions under middle and elementary schools this is 7.2 through 7.18.

i have a motion thank you mrs defazio a second second thank you mr zuckerberg discussion i i guess it's going back to personal like ev every year we always said are we losing this is it the same percentage of teachers that are leaving each time like how does this compare to you know previous years um you know like we can keep track of that kind of because we've one of our role was retention you know um and we are keeping track of that we do that yes um it's comparable to years past i mean the difficult situation right now is you can go to the school district right next to us and make more money so they're they're shopping around for jobs um you know and a lot of the people who are leaving are fantastic additions to our staff it's just that they can find something closer to home for a little bit more money so it's um you know we're it's it's not just us it's it's everywhere um you know because we've had a lot of conversation in our assistant superintendent's roundtable about that it's very hard and even we're finding with interviewing for every candidate that we interview um you know they're not letting us know right away they're going on six seven other interviews and they're taking the best offer on the table so it's gonna be harder and harder to retain people um you know there's everything i know someone said something about commuting and stuff like that that you know so commuting um closer distance to home right correct some are um we have a couple that are uh you know child care so the cost of child care has increased so if they can work closer to home or in the district that their child's going to everybody has their different reasons i don't see it as an alarming rate as you know we're sitting here saying gosh we're much higher than we've ever been um all right yeah and it was expected i mean you know like i said it's everywhere unfortunately yeah and by everywhere not just teaching so in the broader economy i mean you hear the great resignation in the newspapers but i can tell you at my own job trying to hire people at this point it's so difficult you get a limited number of resumes by the time you make a selection on the candidate they've already gotten six other offers so it's a generally very competitive labor market that we're working into here and on your other point about reporting i do think this is something that we talked about early on in our hr committee but i would ask that in committee we come up with a vision of what we think the board should be seeing on a monthly or by monthly basis whenever we're meeting and then work with the administration to fulfill that yeah i mean i think this is more of like an end of the year you know like this time of year okay how many people have left the district chosen to go somewhere else um and like i said what are some of the reasons if it if it is monetary then that's obviously something that we have to consider you know in a negotiation right and and how the how the salary schedule is done you know does are we losing it at a certain time because by that time whereas we're so much further behind other you know to look at those like comparing salary schedules to see how they're organized okay other questions on section seven all right hearing none can we have a roll call please mr bell yes mr posio yes mrs yes miss leemonk mr williams yes so the motion carries we are up to item 8.1 resolved at the boundary board of education approved resolutions as outlined in education resolutions under the district and high school this is eight point two three point seven motion thank you mrs defazio a second second thank you mr bell discussion just glad to see robotics continuing to chug along i mean they already have a trip for next year greatness so basically as i explained explain to me uh it's a phys ed teacher whose role is they talk about uh walking uh safely to and across school different activities so that this person goes out and gets trained she comes back she trains high school students who then go down and mentor students at the elementary school or teach them about the same types of talent yeah there's so many activities per month oh okay so they go to the elementary the school from the high school worked at elementary school and i there was an attachment to the agenda that kind of outlines it for you the agreement that um we had signed for them to be able to go through the training as a test that kind of breaks it out by money for you okay yes i did see that i just wasn't sure presentations other questions observations comments hearing none can we have a roll call please [Music] yes motion carries item number 9.1 resolve the foundry board of education approves the resolutions as outlined in education resolutions under middle and elementary schools this is 9.2 and 9.3 have a motion motion thank you mrs defazio a second second please you win lisa this is guzzino discussion it might seem obvious but on 9.2 we do that in spanish as well we do any other comments or questions okay can we have a roll call please mr bound yes mr ponzio yes ms casino yes miss lima yes up to item number 10.1 resolve the boundary board of education approves the resolutions as outlined in policy resolutions under district and high school this is just 10.2 i have a motion thank you mrs defazio a second second thank you mr minhats any discussion it always goes to the right i just have a point on this um everything like it looks good to me but i would love to learn a little bit more and i know that you guys went through this at the operations meeting um but i also think that um you know for the next coming school year to just see what other you know what our options are what other school districts do what the staffing situations look like it would just be um it would just be good for educational purposes agreed and i think part of the pragmatic approach here what was on the last agenda it was for two sleo3 officers what we have now is just for one and we want the opportunity to still provide the support that we need in district while we buy ourselves a little bit of time to reassess how all this fits in our plan absolutely any other comments or questions do we have the right to um determining the agreement if we are not happy yes and then i know it says hourly is 37.50 number 11 over time [Music] so we would be billed a total of 61 840.

for the year uh this one 840 is for the one steal for the year right now now the total they break it down yes so again just to reiterate this is a staff of the police department this person does not report into the to the border bed or is not a staff correct right okay when we said that the contract can be terminated but it hasn't finished the thing here right should say 30 days in that country 30 days is it net pay on one big seed of the 30 days or okay within 30 days okay but it's it's paid 30 days after we see the of the time or after working so they would be getting a check from the burrow correct and we'd be rehearsing okay any other questions all right can we have a roll call please yes motion carries we are up to item 11.1 resolved at the boundary board of education approves the resolutions as outlined in special services resolutions this is 11.2 and 11.3 have a motion motion thank you mrs defazio a second second thank you mr minhas any questions or discussion actually i have a question on 11 too thank you that's good keep the streak as far as the services does that take place in our district in our schools somebody come in or do the students go out to um a different location or the education mr demarco for the um uh the visual vision of blind and visually impaired students that um rate is that for the people coming into the district or is okay so it's not like a classroom type setting it's just a resource type okay thank you okay can we have a roll call please yes motion carries we are up to 12.1 resolve that the boundary board of education approves the resolutions as outlined in financial resolutions this is 12.2 through 12.13.

you have a motion thank you mr mrs defazio a second stephen thank you mr bao any discussion uh i'd like to thank phoenix 2 company for quite a sizable donation i think that's awesome i think it really underscores the value and the benefit of the program that mr laporte has really put together the fact that these are recurring you know donations and grants just seem to keep coming you know it looks that way very convenient on paper but it's a lot of hard work you know to make that actually happen so just making sure that we that came into the process as well it's a huge number yeah and i had a question on 12 2 on the um secretary treasury report and i noticed some um line items in red and i was wondering if the secretary of mine just explaining to me like non-math what the red highlight items were that looked like we were off track on fun funds that didn't align to totals foreign is because we noticed early on that there were some areas uh on both sides of the budget that didn't match he was brought in he found those discrepancies and he's correcting it he couldn't tell whether it was uh you know what have you so what he did was he uh balanced both sides and sent it to the student information through the financial information system okay and make sure it's budgeted there and everything will be in place so we can move forward okay perfect thank you mr jr [Music] how many ld's are we talking about is it's one one so is that is the position still uh like open like are you still looking and this is just you know correct any other questions or comments or is it right good okay let's have a look please yes yes miss lima yes yes miss massen yes mr zoe yes yes we are up to section 13 other matters to come before the board and new business is there anything that any of the members would like to raise at this small time i just happen to be walking around town i happen to hit a lot of playgrounds in town and i noticed a couple of things um over at smalling they have like that jets thing going on it's falling apart and also there's one point uh it's kind of like i guess you're looking to basket to the right inside the three-point line where it dips down like definite ankle break situation gonna happen it's like it's like a pop underneath it and the other one is um at lafayette the mulch is becoming pretty sparse you could definitely use a refill like at the bottom of the slides and stuff actually uh the director of buildings and grounds is actually working on pretty much all schools so that will be done we'll take a look at the other two letters thank you any other comments from your business all right we are open to the public for discussion i do have to have a few comments online this time so i will read okay anything else from the room no no good okay all right so four comments from the public uh the first one i'm just going to read them verbatim i noticed in agenda item 6.26 that another new position in this district was created the sac bound brook high school the addition of new positions has been happening on a regular basis in the past few years another example would be the creation of another system superintendent in our small school district who creates these new positions what criteria is this new position based on instead of creating these new positions we should be focusing on teacher salaries so that we can retain good teachers and staff that was comment number one comment number two i noticed that the new ba is on the agenda for approval but his salary is not voted comment number three in the may 9th boe agenda item section 6.7 david lapointman will receive the salary of 72 299 for the 22-23 school year in the agenda for tonight his salary is amended to 80 000 for the same school year this is a very large increase from his increase in the may 9th agenda is this fair do our boundary teachers and staff salary increase at the same rate many of our teachers and staff have been here for many years and to my knowledge i've never received a salary increase of that magnitude and finally in agenda item 6.6 the previous position's 10-month salary for the 22-23 school year was 80 000 i believe that's a 14 increase over the previous year approximately ten thousand dollar freeze what is the basis for this increase what are the responsibilities of this position and due to the amount of the increase of additional responsibilities been added and if so what are those responsibilities so those were the comments from online does anyone want to say anything in response that was a simple question correct that's in the agenda and i think the comments regarding uh mr lavoie events position when we got further along in the agenda acknowledging the significant contributions that have come in associated with the program the significant progress that has been made as well as the increases in the scope of that position i think they tend to speak for themselves as well so it's more that he's gotten more there's there's more things that have been put on his plate and and that's what and he's brought in he's brought in giant amounts of money as a result of his uh efforts with his um his resources so he was brought into the school i think i believe it was 138 thousand yeah i was just this one just for this one so it's all over i think so considering that and the fact that we might lose him it was it only made sense to make that salary increase because to be quite frank with you he uh he pays for himself with the contributions he makes you know so maybe you can explain what an sac does so that they understand why it was necessary the student assistance coordinator so it was originally put in the original budget that was proposed and passed by the board of education um we had a person at the high school who was serving as the district sac she is bilingual um with the no sac as i said it was approved in the original budget um the increase in the number of port of entry students we wrote a plan for the state in which we are starting a newcomers program at the high school being that the district sac is bilingual she is going to be moving into the high school sac position that was created to coordinate services for our newcomers but also helped to increase the services that we're providing for our high school students therefore her position was left open as a district sack we hired the district sac who will be at uh community school and who will increase the services that we provide for our um k-8 population if that makes sense it was originally proposed and then it was um it was a conversation about you know moving the position around right and that's what we were able to do because the high school person the district person was bilingual and we needed those services more intensely at the high school um you know so that we have the other person who took over that district position and we'll be focusing more on the elementary grades hopefully that answers this person's questions let's get an email from a district employee that did under the that squad card is a sewer grade apparently there you go not going to be easy to make flat more investigation required but just for clarity those were four different questions that came in before different submitters i just happened okay we are up to item number 16.1 results board of education enter executive session as allowed by njsk104-11 uh under items i believe one and three i have a motion thank you mrs defazio a second second thank you mr president in favor you so you are unmuted great so we are back in session uh resolved this is 17.1 i apologize yeah resolve that the boundary board of education approves the resolutions as outlined in hiv cases under middle and elementary schools this is 17.2 and seven i'm sorry 17.2 through 17.4 you have a motion i'm going to go with mrs defazio as the motion mr bal as the second can we have a roll call nice yes mr chin yes this time i'll entertain a motion to adjourn motion thank you mr powell second thank you mrs christina all right all in favor
