so i appreciate the time for the patients that the team put into this um so hopefully it makes the folks involved with this their jobs a little easier more efficient um but i think i know this is never a fun thing to do with so much going on but thank you any questions yeah no thank you adam for this um i do think it was important to have a review of what is it the what's the what's the total asset balance like a million and a half dollars just to make sure things are happening correctly so thank you related to this i just wanted i i just wanted a refresher i don't know if somebody could give me a quick recap on uh coaching uh coaching permits we did a review on that if i recall correctly where does that stand just to ensure that everybody is properly permitted there's a protocol where in advance of every season chs the athletic department reviews it with dr gad and then sends that to vin and myself uh like i said in advance of every season okay and that's something that was not happening three years ago right okay thank you yep excellent any other questions from the board members on the policy update seeing as they are on then we're going to move onwards and upwards or downwards this agenda uh we have no understanding committees uh up next is approval of minutes uh we do have our minutes in our pockets hopefully i had a chance to review them but something like they make a motion and then we can uh have a discussion so adam you have a motion for us move that the board of education approved the minutes for meetings held on june 9th and june 30th 2022 faith seconds any discussions changes and it's see as there are none uh the motion is that move at the board education approve the minutes from the meetings on june 9th and june 30th 2022 all those in favor it is unanimous thank you madam chair amanda secretary do we have any correspondence i have received no correspondence thank you ah much anticipated superintendent support you can move to the edge of your seats now folks the school modernization update uh this summer our team has been working really diligently uh carol marlene been our administrators to make sure that we are doing everything we can to educate our community about an incredibly important decision that will as a community be making on november 8th more than likely that date has not been established yet but the town council is slated to take that up on august 23rd everything has been put in place and i would just take the opportunity to remind the community that unanimously endorsed by the board by the town council after many years of review and um as i've said you know before to find 16 politicians public servants from the most conservative to the most liberal who can all agree on one path in 2022 is is almost it's really a testament to the amount of work that's been done um to the diligence that's been done by both groups and parties and they firmly believe that this is the best path forward for our community at this time i do want to make one correction and it's a it's a significant correction on information that i've shared previously around the change in reimbursement rate um i had previously indicated that the shift in our reimbursement rate from 36 to 50 percent was the equivalent of a 20 million dollar savings what i failed to calculate in that is the interest on said 20 million and um i was corrected today by sean kimball and jim jascott that the actual savings is 28 million dollars to the cheshire taxpayers again only increasing the urgency uh doing to pass this project now and so that um in the next couple of weeks uh as of the 23rd assuming the town council establishes a referendum date of november 8th that will begin a period where we are no longer uh permitted to advocate as a body or use you know public funds to advocate board members may still independently on their own not as a representative of the board or whatever not using board funds board materials may still endorse this that you're protected but we can't endorse things publicly at that point um and so we're um getting ready to transition and and doing our best to educate the entire community about what is this plan and we'll be sending out information to every household in the end of august early september not advocacy materials just what is this plan because we think it's really important that everybody educates themselves and then gets out and votes regardless of you know where they stand on the project this is a big deal for our community and we're sending something out to every home our attorney uh jeff danafrio has already reviewed the mailer um and given his blessing that is not an advocacy material and we're safe to mail it to everybody um so that's where things stand with respect to school modernization uh on the not so exciting we have a covid19 update i will admit that i was giving a presentation on school modernization um one at 4 15 and one at 5 15 this afternoon and i i did not have the opportunity yet to review the cdc's guidance which was released about that same time i was presenting um and i don't believe that it will necessarily influence our current position but i have reviewed with nancy stanton um with our uh physician dr o'connor with maura esposito what our protocols will be for the fall in barring any significant uh direction that would have been put out by the cdc today again i don't think so um all of our protocols will be similar to what they were last spring you know masks won't be required um you know if somebody's covered positive they'll need to stay home the same way if if you have the flu you have to stay home um and be able to return on on day six with a negative test um day eight with no test uh it at this time but again you know i have to review the cdc guides with those that team um but i imagine it's gonna probably stay the same way it was in the spring which seemed to work pretty well for us that's all i have at the moment and i'm certainly happy to take questions on either topic or anything else um my my questions are with regard to covid and um so and they're i guess they're more suggestions their requests um when i so i reviewed what the state is saying and so now it is they have um transferred authority or responsibility for covert policy to boards of directors as i read it i mean boards of education it's no longer being done at the state level so if we are going to it's now going to be a board by board by board policy the reality is it's kind of been that way for some time where once they in the spring got out of the the business of putting out directives it has been more independent uh amongst districts okay and they've issued recommendations and guidance they have not uh in continuing that you know trend not uh released requirements and so we've reviewed those recommendations uh evaluated where we were with our our health team and you know where we stand as a community with the where the positivity is and all that and we feel pretty confident to move forward in this path so um as as you're going forward i think um there's a great story in the wall street journal today and i'm happy to send it to anyone who wants to read if you haven't read it but why about the um transmissibility of this latest variant and um so i guess my question is we're finding now that most infections tend to happen among vaccinated um people uh we which is and that's what the dph data is showing so um are we what is our what is our policy now on testing t staff all staff in the district so my my first take is given that the majority of the population is vaccinated the likelihood is that transmission would occur amongst vaccinated people the vaccination never guaranteed that you wouldn't become positive it just mitigated the impact of the illness our policy as it relates to our staff is the same as it relates to our students and that if you are symptomatic you should test if you're positive you need to stay home okay okay so we don't test we're not doing weekly tests or anymore not for students or staff okay and then when you this is my ask is that when you would you is it possible to look at your advisory council or your advisory panel and perhaps add um someone who could as they're making medical recommendations be able to weigh in on the academic up implications of say we get a you know a huge burst of positive case there of cases you know before we go to masks or something very dramatic would you consider adding additional representatives who could bring in um non-medical but clearly important um perspectives such as academic impact emotional yeah i think you know as a um education professional with a master's degree in counseling and psychological i'm not trying to i kind of play that role i i'm not trying to suggest no i mean you've got to walk you've got to walk a line and i get it and um but just you know just there's some backup there as well i you know it's just another voice and i i can certainly talk to you know vin marlene nancy about you know any other uh individuals not i'm not suggesting those people but any other individual nancy is already part of that team as our nursing coordinator any other individuals who may uh supplement that faith to be honest my goal is that we don't even have to worry about that right now i think you and i are lips to god's ears right yeah so um but certainly you know i can explore other other uh voices in that process thank you sure absolutely adam thank you um in regards to modernization um i think you touched upon it but i don't know if it was like a firm date when does blackout begin for us so that would kick off on august 24th or i guess is the the the legal definition is when the last condition is met to engage in the referendum so that would technically be i'm assuming august 23rd when the council votes to put that item and other referendum items on the ballot for november so that evening okay um so up until then like um i said someone sent it to me so i saw it figured i just asked like the uh the chamber of commerce sent out like a like a paid promotion i guess it looked like yeah with a letter from you on board of education letterhead yep it's so you can do we can do that now because we're not in the blackout but if we go to blackout once we go to august 24th that sort of thing would be improper entirely accurate yep okay and so like that i could pay after you know we could use district money after that date to send information that's non advocacy related right so that package that you mentioned yeah that is something that the uh that uh the board of education will be paying for right as an informational packet that is non-pro that is non-promotional just informative correct and is that being mailed to everyone or something how's that it is it's being mailed to everybody um and then it's it goes as far as our website so you know we've maintained a school modernization website for multiple years now that has to be the term i've been using is scrubbed to reduce to remove any advocacy related materials so you know this my stance on the on the videos you see is pretty clearly advocating for this project as you know the the community has advocated for it the uh that has to be removed before you know or as of august 23rd so though anything that we put together anything on our website that all has to be just informational and so that informational packet that will have been or had probably has been or will be reviewed before it goes out by our legal yeah so the attorney has already reviewed the mailer that will go home and has said that um the state election enforcement commission would give that the blessing that material is fine things like you know you've probably noticed signs in front of our our schools or or in front of hummuston says please support new schools that was paid for with public funds those have to come down on the 23rd and they will so after the 23rd we can't spend public money on advocacy but only education and so uh that's for you know argument purposes let's say something slipped through that was promotional in nature would that expose the board and any of anyone on the administration to to fines or anything like that according to the law i think that's a good question for attorney dinofrio um you know i think well our goal i mean i i have is it a my own personal mission to avoid avoid being fined um and i think for you guys too it's probably even a bigger mission for me to make sure you don't get fined and so um we tend to run these things through attorney d'onofrio through jeff and that's why you know ben and i met with him yesterday and you know we'll continue to make sure that anything we send out or use to educate the community is indeed just that education and not advocacy and um so just putting my political hat on for a second so aft so on august 24th he said those signs are going to be coming down at the school at that point the the the rules for advocacy size on town property school property would then probably re-engage in a normal election setting where like norma you can't put anything there unless it's on election day or yeah we can't promote candidates or ballot items or anything like that once that last condition is set for the referendum um you you know you're not permitted to put him on uh a candidate sign out there either you know per attorney dinofrio let me say i have his just be like private property yeah election cycle um he had said it uh in sharing with us um that we we shouldn't be putting out a political candidate sign um the the town is prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in a political king campaign of a candidate for elective office obviously this isn't for a candidate this is for a referendum item the state education and excuse me state election enforcement commission um prohibits us from putting out signs again once that last condition is set so we are following the law and the election you know uh commission guidance and um but we are at the same time trying to advocate well we can oh sorry just one last question so if um i wanted to put a vote for school modernization sign on my property am i allowed to do that as a as a person as long as you didn't pay for it with town of cheshire money yes okay all right great thank you sure i i was just going to ask that because where are we with the pack because they're the ones that really need to fuel this beyond the 23rd yeah the pac there is a pack that has formed uh it's called support cps uh the website is on the brink of going live uh that was my next question matt cole hour is um approached me you know he's interested he's the chair of that uh that pack and mike federico um you may know is is the treasurer um and they have worked to they've filed the the paperwork already they they have a website mostly built and are linking in the bank account you know soon any day now thanks tony um so i i support the school modernization sure strongly at the same time i really don't like the idea of spending public funds on those signs or really on any of this stuff right now i think it's a matter of educating people yeah that's my personal view um but i wanted i just wanted to understand this a little bit better with regard to the lawn signs we could put advocacy signs candidate advocacy signs are prohibited right now if i wanted to go put tim white for board of education you we can't have a specific candidate that's prohibited but you can advocate for government spending so i'm just wondering what is the contr what is the controlling authority do you know what the controlling authority is on that i think that seek state education or state election enforcement committee so they prohibit candidate signs but then anything else sort of above and beyond it if you want to put up a little league sign that that means nothing to to seek is is that a way to put it just to try to understand that i'm sorry can you give me the example again means nothing to seek but yeah yeah or pop warner football whatever it might be i mean could they put out signs on the school property yeah but it just doesn't fall under the purview of seek people do that sometimes and we remove them you know if uh we have a protocol where if people want to put out signs or if the people want to um distribute information to our families they send it to carol we approve it um there's a board policy around that and we distribute the information that way okay so i guess then what i'm hearing you say is it's board policy that allows those signs to be there the please support new school signs i don't know that its board policy speaks to that issue uh to be honest with you maybe it's the absence of that policy maybe yeah okay it might be a better way of framing it if there are specific questions tim that you know you have and you want to share them with me i mean maybe vinnie is better because i'll be away for a little bit but not prison just vacation um i'm not going away that bad um if you want to share them with ben you know jeff could probably give you some clarification okay thank you sure um even better i would suggest uh because this is new territory for all of us we need an upcoming policy committee meeting have a discussion on science i think that'd be an excellent idea and then look up that signage so just keep going okay so changing topics um with regard to the covid illness policy of sending kids home last spring so what march 1st forward you had mentioned that it worked well so this is just simply an observation for you to have in mind as you're thinking about the big picture and how to make things work so my daughter got it she was home for a week uh but she ended up getting tested for other reasons um so she comes home and she just wanted to play which i'm simply pointing out it's not your responsibility i don't mean to say that you know i hate that that happens but you know asymptomatic asymptomatic individuals can still spread the virus yeah no and i understand it completely but if we end up in a situation where we have lots of kids who are asymptomatic and going home i mean this ends up having a big impact on the community it's just something to no doubt have in mind as a parent i totally appreciate that yeah yeah um and then especially given that it's you know it's not a day you know several days five years i think i think it was a week because weekends or whatever might help but it's you're not talking about just coming home today for your child yes uh onerous um and then the last thing i just wanted to point out was that i know you had explored electric buses electric school buses i just wanted to say thank you for doing that sure i was caught off guard by the cost associated with it because that had been presented differently in the webinar that vin and i attended but anyway it doesn't sound like it'll happen at this moment in time i do think the technology is going to keep pushing forward costs will continue to fall um so my hope is that in the not so distant future we can do it but i completely understand the cost associated with that also with the focus on school modernization being a huge lift so thank you for i would appreciate your insistence uh often around this topic because it first of all for people who don't know connecticut law is directing all municipalities to have zero emission school busing by 2040 unless you're in a particular some districts have to do it by 2030. and so it's good that it's in the back of our mind it's also valuable in the sense that as we hopefully are designing new buildings to be aware of contemporary technology in direction of technology because if we want to be mindful of that if we're constructing new facilities that's also thanks and one last point on it just that the public understands where i'm coming from on this uh when i was 16 years old i came down with asthma i was diagnosed with asthma it's really from it's not a genetic thing it's from environmental uh factors and a lot of it is the emissions from our power generation from exhaust pipes i think anybody could probably you know you see these exhaust pipes pumping out of the diesel school buses and you know it's not good um but for me and for many others it leads directly to asthma there's a real public health impact and when you can't breathe it's really scary and uh so i just want to do my interest with this that's my first and foremost interest which is um you know improving the health for our kids because that can be a really scary thing when you can't when you feel like you're when you are wheezing and you feel like you can't get a good breath of air tim if i put you on the spot i think you also took a ride on one of the aces electric buses oh yes i did so there are some other positive things you know do you mind sharing i don't want to oh yeah no no sure sure yeah oh sure thank you yeah uh so the czech public schools has a relationship with aces it's a statewide um educational system and they got their first full electric school bus and not a short bus but the full-length bus i don't know is it type 1 or type 2 event type 1.

what's what is it 70 seats or something 77 okay yeah so they got their first electric school bus a year ago they've already gone through some of the learning curve some of the uh the concerns like range anxiety what do you do with what do you do with the bus that has to go to a sporting event that's you know an hour and a half away type of thing and it's already been you know used for the regular school bus routes there's a lot of things to learn in how to use them well one other one other big plus i believe this is a big plus for the school bus the electric school bus is that you don't have and then feel free to jump in here with the with the electric bus you don't have the motor running it's a loud motor and what happens with the loud motor is the school bus drivers often have to yell and that turns into kids yelling and it turns into a bit of a i don't maybe a volatile environment i'm not sure exactly the the best word for it but it ends up in a situation where people are yelling it's not ideal because of the engine and when you switch over to the electric motor it's very quiet and so the school bus drivers will be likely many school bus drivers will likely be yelling a lot less because the kids will be able to hear them and it just brings down the volume on the bus and i think it's i do expect that something like that could have a positive impact on the behavior on the bus right and that was the bus driver that gave us that tour was had driven that bus so that was one of the comments that we heard from the bus driver and since i have the four for a moment my suggestion is that we add this as part of planning because i did get some more information from datco following i actually got it earlier today but i think we need to put this on the agenda because there's a few different things that are happening as as dr sullin said by 2040 we have to be zero emission which presumably means electric by 2035 we have to be either essentially we have to at least be running probably propane buses so we have a deco contract that expires in a couple of years you know if it's worth while having discussions i think the first planning committee we have i would invite dako president and vice president who's his son very well versed on the topic daco also has an electric type one they have six more coming in they'll be using them in middletown you know they are more expensive but it's time to start talking about it because 2040 is a lot of years away as we sit here today but a lot needs to be done between now and 2040 if we go electric not not the least of which is the electrical grid in connecticut is going to need to be upgraded as well as each of our facilities electrical capacity has to be upgraded so i think we put it on the agenda and stopped talking about it all right he's been doing this for the last five minutes i just have to ask are these buses climate controlled and do they have any new um uh safety features for seat belts or anything like that for the students no well the seat belt is a separate thing they can be added but they don't at least in the two models and the models we saw yeah you wouldn't know it's an electric bus or a propane bus if you walked on it except when the engine is running so it looks exactly the same it's not like some sort of future bus it's just not it looks like a yellow school bus it's not it wasn't even that flat front that some towns have it still had the it still had the nose out front okay so the climate control think about you know what uses power well certainly cooling the bus interestingly and they didn't point this out when we went to aces but at datgo there was actually a motor a diesel-powered motor might have been gas doesn't matter to provide the heat on the bus so it's not exactly a hundred percent zero emission if you're running a motor to provide heat but you have to heat the bus for the students when they're on it so that was a interesting little tidbit that you know we we saw on the electric bus that is over at daco sure interesting no but even with that i mean if that's the way they're being designed it it would uh you know they're being designed that way you could maybe even get them just with propane which is going to be cleaner without all the other dirty particulate matter and stuff like that i mean as time progresses i think they'll figure out how to get a bus that'll run the full day including you know a heating element but we know that you know if you're trying to provide heat using battery or electricity that draws a lot of current and so you would run down and you know can't get as much mileage out of the bus yeah just an interesting point that i wanted to add yes thanks tony uh yeah and just you had mentioned about inviting it's don devivo from datgo so the beyond that just something to consider eversource and also department of corrections having a conversation with them we have the property the bus depot butts up to their property they've got 10 acres there but even if it's not that if you wanted some extra space for charging um just something to keep in mind how that might work out and if the conversation whoever the stakeholders are in that conversation thank you yes faith go ahead um i think i've asked this in the past has anyone looked into hybrids i know they're made and they're 35 more efficient than just regular old i know you know what hybrid makes a ton of sense i asked when we met with that go what about hybrid right because you don't have to worry about the electric bus running out of amperage and you know you get not being able to get kids home but i was told that they're not manufacturing them right now oh um yeah it's that was kind of my reaction so that will that will be kind of on the list of options i thought i just read something about it but yeah yeah i um it's not zero emission it's not zero emissions but my little hybrid out there gets 50 miles to the gallon it's really nice i just say huh any any other comments or questions from for jeff so jeff so a couple of things i i uh i'm sure paul is aware you've been given uh presentations pretty much all year i i've heard i've heard it going very well uh very informative i had a couple of folks uh say to me it was a formal scene it seemed more factual than a sales pitch and i i so that's kind of intentional because i don't think we're not i'm sure i speak for all of us we're not trying to sell the public on anything we're just trying to get the right information out there make a decision so the fact that i've heard folks some of the some of the most frivolous penny pinchers i know came away from some of those meetings very impressed didn't feel like they're being sold on and actually heard of facts that was a good uh confidence i appreciate the work you didn't put into that um yeah i don't think i have anything else i think you've answered anything else i know andrew's away he's on a vacation this week but i know he's going to reach out to the board for planning committee topics and he comes back so we'll get this on there and for what's worth any electric uh side of things 10 15 years ago wasn't even thinkable but as tim alluded to this stuff keeps along every year every year so um the fact that there is a mandate out there we start planning ahead but it's just just kind of surprised we're actually going to talk about this at this point i've been a possibility um is a huge step so as it becomes more affordable i'm sure it's going to be a huge win so anyway i don't uh that that concludes the intense report as far as old business i have none really have known you i have no chair chairperson's updater then uh there's a cabe caps convention conference coming up in november that's the big one i have every fall if you're interested in going please let carol know you're signing us up um but beyond that we have some upcoming meetings uh there is a town council meeting the 23rd i don't see any agenda yet but i do know the school monetization referendum the item will be on that so folks are interested have questions please attend or watch that meeting for the town council uh september 1st we have a board of ed opening a school meeting at 7 30.

talk about all kinds of different things uh like I said I asked you for comments and so that we could kind of uh have this go where you want it to go and we could talk about different things Travis I Travis posted it on his on Instagram this morning and Facebook yeah and you know I've always said that uh it's not my way or the highway I'm just trying to show you a way but then he went on to elaborate and he said because there's probably a thousand better ways to do things that's probably true come on no yes a thousand different ways uh I got not necessarily better but not better but also most dads do say it's my way of the highway so that's it's yeah so look at that Russia love it drinking hot chocolate there we go we can read the comments kind of all yeah day good morning from Alabama I think I think we're like sit down with us grab your drink and and because you you've already explained it before jumping on right now yeah yeah yeah so I used to do this with my daughter and from London Toronto Tijuana South Korea see we could just you can just guys you were you were lost in the sauce there for a moment Manila Georgia Texas Texas in the house okay yeah yeah I'm in now up to Compton now there's Morgana with it's coffee but what I'm saying is with you used to do these things this every Saturday morning when she was in like all her life or just in high school every day I'd say get up we're having coffee no it would be uh during school right Christine Christine's kind of behind the scenes over here College uh or high school high school did you get coffee high school that's why I'm so short [Laughter] until I uh introduced her to creamer and then it's like half and half creamer and yeah okay so well I was saying that we could do other things you guys probably really do that but you guys were already telling me you're already telling me I think they just kind of use wet yeah yeah you guys wet with it you guys knew where we were going Middle East okay let's keep this moving Travis okay I'm just kidding yeah so uh is this time good for you guys uh well I guess it's good for you guys I feel like it's probably not good for some some other people so some 2022-08-13 Middlesex County, MA YouTube / Dad, how do I? transcript source: youtube LIVE: Coffee with Dad and Travis · passage 2
[Laughter] so I'm a millennial I do have some coffee dad jokes did you have a dad joke no no okay well I mean I did but you know you knew yours I'm making mine now okay um this is live so what did the coffee addict say to his doctor I don't know I don't have a problem with coffee I have a problem without it oh that's good that's good yeah I think I like that laugh track hit laugh track that's good um my wife is clapping in the background that's good yeah so and then never make fun of a barista they will roast you oh that's good that's good is that all right that's good yeah um if you've listened to our podcast these are good mine are good mine are they're really good but but we'll hold off well I'm gonna hold off on it until later and then I'll really get you with a good one okay yeah okay so we will answer some of the questions that uh we received and ones was I have a pretty long answer to it so I kind of wrote it out because I just wanted to cover all the things that were kind of on my mind uh and do we know who that was from my brothers hey it's 807 and Issaquah So Adam let me talk about Adam real quick so I apologize for not continuing the painting Series so what happened this is a dad faux pas um I try when I tried to record it with Adam uh the third in the series uh the editing is just too too difficult for Dad because I had two cameras going and Adam's heads cut off in one and then I'm cut off in the other and trying to mix those two and I don't have the bandwidth and I'm I'm the editor so as you probably know I'm the editor based on the the editing so uh anyway so there won't be another well maybe maybe there will be but if with the understanding that it may not be the greatest editing So Adam accepts my apology so here is my painting though so that's how my painting came out with Adam uh if you saw the original it wouldn't be so amazing so what we were painting from Adams was way better but I mean for a first time not bad yeah and then this is one I did without Adam that I tried and again if you saw what the Bob Ross original was supposed to look like compared to this now I painted so as long as you don't compare it's amazing I painted this book cover that was mine um blindfold okay so anyway that's why I haven't done the third one it's just uh yeah it would have been just too hard what we don't get to see the painting you get to see the painting right there that was earlier oh I'm sorry I'm sorry yeah looks like a picture thank you very much you win points yeah it was actually it kind of has the same sort of uh feel of a glossy photograph okay sorry I'm on my phone here um like most dads I'm trying to find that uh who said it who said that sorry because I sent it sent it to you oh yeah okay so this was one of the questions and it was from ragad chick r-a-g-a-d underscore s-h-i-k commented do you get bored or disappointed about your YouTube If you don't have as many views so that's my this is my long answer to that so just going to kind of go through this fairly quick so that you that you understand uh you know I think it's important to not dwell on negative stuff I think in your own life right I mean it's good to count your blessings instead because I think all of us can kind of you know mind trip I guess where you're kind of thinking about the bad stuff if you dwell on the good stuff boy there's so much to be thankful for uh so and I do think it's odd though that my my viewership is a little low when my subscriber count continues to grow and so behind the scenes there is uh people are still viewing a lot of my older stuff so I do get the views on that the newer stuff I think it's important to continue to put out stuff that I think is valuable to people so that one day they may need that they might not need it right then but they may need it down the road so like filling up with gas I just did that one recently because people had asked and I understand that's not going to be for everybody but I was trying I'm trying to make my channel for anybody and everybody right so that you can uh come in and learn how to do stuff without feeling stupid right then yeah because I think and I think you know in my life there's times where I haven't asked a question because I was worried about looking stupid and so this is a safe place for anybody to learn how to do just about anything uh so all that to say I have a lot going on besides the YouTube uh I finally have a fantastic manager yay yay not me her name's Brit she's awesome and uh you know I didn't plan on this thing being what it is today and so had to kind of we didn't build a foundation and then have this thing be where it is we were scrambling me and my daughter and she was you know compassionate enough to help me kind of Wade through all this uh so anyway so I have a great manager uh and I've been through a few uh and you know it this was difficult because it wasn't planned uh but I have great sponsors I have Lubriderm you guys have seen Lubriderm truest bank I'm going to be doing some stuff with truest Bank on money because you guys want to know about money truest is has got a good reputation and they got a lot you do get a lot of a lot of questions about money I do you do I do so we're going to be doing more and more of that and then I'll have one coming out with truest um shortly kind of Point me with that visible by Verizon is going to be working with me uh Firestone you know I also have my Instagram right so I have my Instagram I have my Facebook and those continue to grow uh our podcast is doing well I just started a tick tock so because I want to do uh smaller things that uh you know people have been asking me how to tie your shoes for the longest time and I thought how do I put that up on YouTube to show you how to tie your shoes but it's tick tock's the perfect venue yeah right because it's a shorter video and plus I can throw up a dad joke uh with just throwing just the dad joke so you don't have to Wade through the rest of my video to yeah hear the dad joke so uh and there's actually this is unfortunate there's a lot of fake accounts um on Tick Tock of Dad how do I and so it's called the real Dad how do I I had to go there because now do I was taken and then people yeah there's that how do I official that's not me you know so the real dad how do I the real dad I'll do it okay yep uh I'm also um anyway I got other things even besides that plus I'm still working right so I've got uh a talent agency that wants to work with me and they're excited about it too we haven't signed yet but uh I don't think you even knew that so so it's pretty it's a big talent agency so so we might be able to do bigger bigger things um talking about a second book uh we're talking about um there was an unscripted version of my show that was being talked about there's also a scripted version uh like a sitcom uh based Loosely on my life I pulled the plug on both of those myself because I again I didn't know what I was doing and I was trying to figure trying to Wade through all this kind of by myself and again with with the help of my daughter so uh anyway and yeah again like like I said I'm still working uh because I you know my wife and I are 58 we're closing in on retirement don't want to pull up short so trying to navigate that because I didn't plan on switching jobs right so sorry you're having to be quiet through this this is right I just wanted to next time so just so you understand just so you understand just got a lot a lot of good stuff going on so the views Travis is like why am I here I feel like there should be a clock this is like uh I feel like I'm on a fantasy football draft this guy's taking forever trying to figure out I'm just joking that's good this is all good stuff I just want to get you all kept caught up the other the other answers would be a lot shorter that's why I wrote this one out but I just wanted to catch up on everything there's so many things that are happening Morgana says and then Adam goes anything new with the channel oh boy milkshake I get that all the time I get the bird Chrysler thing all the time I do okay so anyway all that to say I just want to say one thing so I appreciate your understanding with me trying to work with these sponsors too because I am trying to transition I am trying to transition out uh my job so I do need to take on sponsorships but I'm going to take on sponsorships that only I would also recommend to my own kids okay done over Travis you take it over yeah here uh little known fact Kenny uh in Irish means um so and you get anybody on the Kenny side they will talk your ear off that was good though thanks for catching us up on that that's pretty a lot of pretty fun things I didn't even know about um a lot of people out there that were saying hi and they have great ideas uh teacher someone said I want to talk teach you or teach your kids how to drive or yeah how do you drive um I just recently had to my teenagers get their licenses this past year and I'm gonna tell you it is scary teaching kids how to drive but you are super for them when they're done I don't know how you would do that um maybe a GoPro and just yeah I would pick them for a live drive a driving lesson you got to do a lot of shouting stop look again it would be difficult I've thought about uh yeah some of the parts of driving though like parallel parking I think I could pull that off with my amazing editing skills yeah so yeah you probably could yeah and yeah uh let's see can you scroll at all on that let's scroll back just a little bit in case we'll answer some questions yeah I think it's uh blowing right fast because I was rambling no you're okay coffee yeah someone coffee is the best I need a coffee how do you feel uh less lonely without interacting with people this is a good place to do it mental or emotional advice yeah yeah you know I did do one on Mental Health it's a little bit difficult um you know without somebody to talk to yeah right I mean if you if you could kind of dig into their lives a little bit and understand a little bit more about what's going on yeah I think we get that believe it or not we get up that question a lot I think that's going to be a new thing uh because of the pandemic of people working from home typically you're kind of forced in areas where you're working side by side with someone or you share a cube with someone um depending if you're in a workplace or an office but if you're working from home it's just pretty much like teams messaging you're not really learning too much from the other person you know about their lives as much as they're sharing from their profile pics so I think I think there's going to be a little bit of some of a loneliness uh thing there that we're we're gonna have to overcome as as a society and uh I think this is a good way of doing it forums chatting you know getting in and having conversations is always good yeah if I could figure out a way I think it would be fun to actually have people on to some of my subscribers yeah maybe I don't know I need help with that to figure out how to yeah how to do do that but I think it would be fun to kind of get to know individuals you know at that level because some things are so hard to to answer somebody will say something is like oh that's such a deep question right I don't know how to how to unpack it without actually sitting down with you and talking about all the details right right exactly yes um any other just keep well I'll interrupt and if we can keep all in our way let's talk that but was there another question that you wanted to I know that you said I sent them to you you sent me a few oh yeah I guess I gotta ask these I thought these were for me whoa okay so um so many people text me I just gonna get through okay here we go so um let me let me share something do you get do you get bored or disappointed about YouTube If you don't have as many views you've already answered that right yeah but you didn't listen to the answer I did tell me that go over here no but I will say this so I also the reason you know he I've been doing podcasting for six and a half years we've had this conversation on the podcast before but he shows up in the pandemic overnight he's got a zillion subscribers and he did something very cool and so for someone like me who's been digging that trench for I crawled so he could walk um I'm just kidding I no I don't know what I'm saying is for people like you know if you're starting something out it's it's stuff like this where people will comment or send a message that always like boosts like all right cool even if it's just one or two people you're just like that's awesome and then and then it goes from there so um I don't think you get bored for mix it's so busy um and I don't think that there's anything disappointing because even even the the friendships you make and the connections you make even if it's just a few I think we're so we we've used success as having a zillion numbers let's say there's like a hundred people in the waiting room waiting for you at that moment before you go live yeah and there's only just maybe like 10.

and then uh and you're looking at that and you go what am I even doing this Saturday morning but then it just bounces up you get a bunch of people but you know so anyway that was my dad joke okay so that was a dad gross dad rose that was a dadro southern Mel says I don't need it but I have a sister who's 15 years younger than me and she said no one ever taught her how to budget or balance a bank account could you do some videos on finance or something like that for future Generations yeah yeah and that's uh my long-winded answer about the yeah about views and stuff um I am going to be doing more money money videos on like I said I have one coming out soon with truest Bank where they have a lot of resources that can help you I think so again trying to work with with things that I would recommend to my own kids uh that I think and you know back in the day there wasn't there weren't great resources uh and now you know there's a lot you just got to be just gotta know where to find it yeah right so um somebody asked about loans too yeah I think that's important I think uh you know understanding how to buy a home how to take out a loan you know got to be careful with loans so um and then people have asked about a Roth Iraq Roth IRA and a regular Ira what's the difference you know I'm not a financial advisor but I can give you um my dad buy ice that I would give to my own kids and hopefully that would help you and then you got to do your own research too but at least it gives you some familiarity with it yeah yeah um a lot of I'm back in the reading maybe maybe a dad do you have any driving tips some people said YouTube shorts maybe you do that just not just the tick tocks yeah um uh what they say uh let's see no it's just a lot of you know in the chances Travis a lot of people crying laughing hahaha but uh hi Dad I'm a son from Spain thank you for everything um they yeah they teach us about trapezoids in high school but not how to balance a checkbook I mean it's things that you just really uh you know balancing the budget is huge right no I think all that's huge and that's you know the whole reason that I started this Channel and uh because I was trying to teach you stuff that maybe you didn't learn in school and trying to make a nice you know I've said this before I thought I was going to have 30 or 40 subscribers because I I just wanted to put together a place a safe place where you could come and learn how to do things um without feeling you know I I try not to waste your time too and yeah so any and all that that I can download from my head that's why the views again I'm not chasing views if I was you know I'd dress up in a chicken suit yeah and do uh the floss you know I could probably should do that's a good one maybe I'll do it okay okay so uh anyway yeah so I'm gonna I'm trying to keep it keep it that way so and then uh one thing that helps budgeting at least for me um is looking at every little small thing that you that you spend I mean they say that you would spend what if you spend like I think 13 dollars I don't know quick we lost Travis no no I'm here uh 13 times 365.

okay you bet thank you i'll be right here you all right uh we'll go ahead and reconvene this meeting uh at 6 56 p.m and uh we'll go ahead and move on to item 4.01 recognition of amigo the alum rock board president i'm sorry we need to report from closed session thank you i'll let you go and take care of that mr rico would you please uh report yes thank you dr barrow in closed session the board approved the employment of three behavior intervention supervisors jose lopez reyes hernandez and alexis anthony pardo and the board also approved the employment of two occupational therapists elizabeth cavetti garza and christina garlit rackad all right is that all we have to report up all right so moving on to item 4.01 recognition of amigo delano rock this item was brought in uh by trustee pham and i'm gonna defer to trustee fam to explain um in and we have a family representative as well okay thank you uh so uh a couple uh over the summer uh you know through through dr bauer i had learned that uh lois moore a uh 28 year teacher of alamo passed away uh you know she lost her uh battle with cancer and you you know her her career was uh a very fruitful one at uh in this district uh a lot of her uh i think she was she i had her as an art teacher when i was at palace school and i believe that that was sort of the play uh where she had the most impact uh she introduced a lot of a lot of young children to uh the world of art many of which went on to become skilled artists in high school and careers in the visual arts and graphic design uh she was uh the yearbook advisor at pala in the years that it won the uh was it uh national association of uh scholastic publication award so paula uh and eastside san jose middle school actually uh won awards with the uh with the best of the middle schools in the country for producing uh a highly regarded yearbook uh during her tenure at pala now of course she moved she also taught at other schools in the area and um [Music] you know someone who certainly made um a huge difference in the lives of many children in allen rock and in east side san jose so uh you know uh upon my recommendation the you know our district would like to present a special award uh in in you know in honor of all her accomplishments uh with the alum rock union elementary school district uh so doc dr bauer do we have the uh the family member yes mr moore you have the floor yes i am here so uh mr uh kurt moore uh uh you know it's strange that we have to do this virtually i i would love to present this uh you know to you at the board room uh you know uh but we the the allen rock union elementary school district board well hereby recognizes lois moore posthumously as a distinguished a friend of alan walker in spanish um her year career uh with our district serving uh many thousands of children over the years from the from grades k through eight and so we you know we want to express our condolences uh for your for your and your family's loss and you know and that uh we you know uh present this token of appreciation for your wife's [Music] accomplishments in our district thank you so much um that's wonderful and it's it's a it's an honor uh to be here for her um it it will be hard for me to get through this um you know she she had choices of school districts and she was tapped by palo alto campbell all kinds of different school districts and um and you know earlier in her career i i was like hey what about you know palo alto you know all these she said no no she said no to every single one of those because she said that her talents would have been better served teaching people on east side and she stuck to that she really stuck to that um she worked so hard not to get anybody in trouble i mean she had she she she had key you know she had keys to every school that she ever worked at because she worked so late that the janitor would say please give her a key so that she said she could leave um she would often walk out with the janitor at night so it kind of gives an idea of what hours she did and she put in um [Music] while she was a teacher she um she never allowed any students to say i can't do that and you mim i guess you said that you were a student and um i think that you probably heard her say that a few times no you can do this you can complete this it's not difficult even though she showed some kind of art piece of art that you guys were going to do and she said you guys are going to accomplish this and they did and she believed she believed in all children across the spectrum no matter what skin color no matter what economic situation they were in she she convinced not just the child but the parent that the child can learn and the child can do it and it was always her biggest goal was to improve the generation she said i want to make that generation better than the next generation and uh she saw that i mean she taught she taught parents of children you know in those times and she saw that okay yeah we're seeing improvement and and that is so important um to any any city any area any anything that you've got to leave the world she always said i got to leave the world better than the way i found it and uh she did so i i thank you so much and she would've been so proud uh to receive what you guys are presenting and thank you you know and thank you for being here with us and you know kind of you know in a way our honoring what what your wife did for our district for so many years yeah thank you so much thank you for being here with us um any comments from members of the board uh or more travis mr moore i want to thank you because all the work she did um you allowed her that time to share with others and i want to thank you and that speaks awesome of you too thank you yeah there were there were a few times when it was like okay yeah i'll make dinner um mr moore thank you so much for uh being here to accept this award on behalf of your wife and your family um you know i didn't get to meet her myself but sounds like a wonderful teacher and i think of all the artists within our community you know i'm sure if i looked in to see if they had her as a teacher i'm sure that i would find that they did sit through her class um so you know i i thank her for um having that ability to um teach beyond the box you know i think teachers are given this box and um there's some teachers i just can teach beyond that box that where our children feel like they can soar um where their spirits just you know um glide and um you know i i feel that through the words you shared through the words that men shared um and you know grateful for for her grateful for her leadership because i'm also i'm also sure that she mentored and coached many teachers and that she taught many teachers um and you know all the ripple effects that that continues to have in our community um i'm grateful for because i know that our children are continuing to benefit from all of those uh teachings that miss moore left so um thank you for supporting her you know working as a team making dinner dinner when you did and um just encouraging you know and listening to her because you know it's not i mean not easy when you could probably make you know so much more money somewhere else and you got to pay bills so i know that it was a team effort you know when you're in a marriage it's like okay well then we'll give and take a little bit over here you know to make this work so um i think that also shows you know the the value of being in a relationship in a marriage where um you know you support one another's passion um to making this world a better place so thank you for doing that as well thank you remember thank you yes i just wanted to offer our condolences um also on behalf of the board and the district and uh mr mario also just thank you for your words uh for those of us who didn't have the opportunity to um be in you know in class with with him it's more you know those words really humanize um for us beyond just the plaque that we see and help us to get a sense of of what we're really talking about here so i want to thank you for sharing those very personal uh memories with us and and so that we can have a true appreciation of of the dedication um that is you know the reason for this recognition so thank you for that thank you okay on behalf of the rock schools we want to thank you uh for being here and sharing with us i want to thank my colleague for bringing forward this recognition is very much well deserved um it's more taught those things that make life worth living i used to work for a city council member who was fighting for uh investment in the arts and he uh he mentioned that there was uh one of the things that we remember of a civilization it's not the best bean counting technique strategies it's the art that's left behind that's what we turn to and so she did her part to pass along that uh generation after generation uh uh practice of passing on art and so thank you uh for being here and thank her for being part of the alum rock family dr bauer thank you for president i also wanted to thank mr moore for being here i know lewis very well um i've been in alamo for 20 years and she has been an amazing amazing colleague in every way and i always um remember her in her chair with her class around her when i will go and visit classrooms so um tons of fun memories with louis and she's dearly missed and i just wanted to share with you that we're gonna be uh making arrangements so that you can receive the plaque okay thank you very much thank you thank you all right we'll be moving on to item 4.02 the recognition of a certificate of gratitude dr barr do you want to introduce a certificate of gratitude yes board president thank you very much this certificate of gratitude is being presented to mr joseph corona for volunteering on the measure i campaign mr corona went above and beyond the call of duty as a volunteer he made phone calls he visited he stopped the envelopes and without his help it would not have been the same so thank you so much mr corona we are hoping to have a lot of volunteers and all the different uh things that we have ahead of us um thank you so much and and also we will send you your certificate i think that he has been promoted so i'm gonna turn it over to you uh board president all right are you here joe yes all right we can hear you thank you very much thank you for allowing me to give me the opportunity to help you guys in this uh measure your eye that was interesting for me to help you all you know it was something it's something to learn more about and i uh like i said before my kids get went to this this district my grandkids go so i'm willing to always support and help you guys when it comes to this district alum rock okay thank you very much thank you for your support okay thank you um hello mr coronado thank you so much for uh taking the time to um make sure that that passed you know i know that the numbers that it passed with um wouldn't have been you know done if it wasn't for you for your time the countless hours the phone calls the effort and in some respects and you know i was impressed by mr corona's dedication that i saw um you know it's people are so busy and we all leave busy lives and it takes something to be able to dedicate oneself consistently towards an effort especially an effort that was as important as this for our district and so for that reason i also would just like to recognize mr corona's dedication and really crucial part in getting this um to where we needed it to go so thank you mr quran thank you thank you guys for watching you know i want to express my my sincere thanks for your efforts mr corona you know i was there i i went and phone bank for measure i myself and you were there along with many of our volunteers and uh it takes a lot of dedication and a lot of faith in our district for uh to be with uh the measure i campaign every step of the way uh you know uh i can say you know uh the allen rock school district owes you a a a debt of gratitude for your efforts and for your continued involvement with our district and your it is a indeed a great honor to be able to recognize your efforts and you know to present to you this token of our sincere uh thanks uh you know so development and instructional materials and visual and performing arts and ethnic studies along with best practices for improving school climate such as training for restorative justice strategies it's also recommended that culturally relevant texts and diverse book collections be developed to support independent reading for students in english and their home languages i respectfully request an expiration of these funds and a report to the public to indicate how they will be utilized on or before the october board meeting and hearing the story about mrs lois moore it just shows and demonstrates the importance of the art she sounds like a wonderful person and a dedicated and inspiring arts educator i want to say my condolences to her husband and just say that the arts matter i kind of goofy um i wasn't going to speak tonight that this has been a very difficult and prime week but since you saw me i will give it a try i do want to one thing i want to do is say good evening board president dr bauer everybody um and to welcome all the new people coming on board i know that we have a lot of new administrators teachers classified staff and welcome those that have come back already and that will be returning come tuesday first day of school it should be a very exciting year um i'm sorry i've been on several committees this year and i know we worked real hard to put some things into place that are just booming and and taking shape so with that um i'm going to say good night and thank you so much for listening to me we have something for syndra sandra floor's yours thank you sorry the mute button was pressed um i'd like to say good evening my name is sandra rivera i'm the area vice president and i would like to start off by offering my condolences to the family of lois moore and also miss stewart who had passed away who is the secretary from mccullum i never had the pleasure of meeting miss stewart but i did have the wonderful pleasure of working with miss moore for many years and it was an awesome collaboration and she was always full of such wonderful energy and brought the i can you can do attitude so she will be missed i'd also like to start off by welcoming everybody back to another great school year so many new and awesome things are in store for us all during the 22-23 school year yesterday the area executive board got the privilege to meet and welcome about 45 new educators to the alum rock family they were all eager and excitedly awaiting their first day of school so to the fellow educators and from your fellow educators welcome i have also had the privilege to visit a few of the campuses so far this year and have loved seeing some of the updates and progress we are making to our sites these improvements will make the students days more comfortable and safer all around new blacktops and shade provide our students with safe and cool playing environments to exercise in the outdoor spaces we are counting down the days till we have ac and heat inside all of our campuses and classrooms as well we would like to thank the it department for working so hard at updating all of our educator laptops over the summer however there have been a few hiccups when educators turn in their laptops some of them that is their only way to have access to their emails so they voice concern that how they are notified to come and pick up their laptops when their devices are done some suggestions that were offered were when we turn in our devices that we could have a sign up then on when we can pick them up or to receive a letter in the mail notifying us when we can pick them up some educators have already been back to their school sites to prepare for the upcoming year while trying to prepare one sometimes needs to print why is it that the network was updated and completed over the summer but the educators printers have not yet been connected many teachers have called me and many of us have had to call it to have our laptops connected to the office printer for us to print having multiple teachers trying to get their classroom set up without the tools needed is difficult not to mention the traffic jam it creates at some school sites when you have 20 plus staff members plus office staff all trying to print from the same office printer our school year will also be filled this year with a lot of activity as we have four seats on the board coming up available area would like to invite members of the community and local business owners living in the area a chance to be part of all the wonderful things happening here in our district and with that i just want to wish all of my colleagues and everybody in alum rock a fantastic school year and a wonderful first day on tuesday thank you uh item 6.05 superintendent thank you so much board president and um ditto to everything that the previous uh speakers have said thank you so much to all of them for having such a wonderful attitude as we open a fantastic new year it's going to be fantastic because i have seen evidence of that in the classrooms in the blacktops everywhere everybody is working very hard to create welcoming environments for each and every one of our children i will be uh doing that last sweep tomorrow of all the sites so um we spent a lot of time this week visiting sites making sure things are addressed and we are listening taking notes and um trying to address as much as we can before tuesday and um parents we are waking we are waiting for your students with open arms ready to have a fantastic new school year thank you all right um 6.06 board of trustees comments communication i'll go ahead and i'll take you to the see you raise your hand if you're interested okay hang on uh or uh uh just a few things you know uh first of all i wanted to uh you know uh note that uh the county has certified the passage of measure i and i want to want to express uh thank you alan rock for your continued faith in our school district uh this parcel tax provides uh four million dollars in annual revenue uh which is certainly needed to uh maintain academic programs and the services that uh the residents of allen rock i want to express you know on behalf of my my gratitude to our community for their continued investment in ellen walk uh second i also wanted to continue to uh express that uh you know we uh reid hugo airport is still a being you know danger to our children a couple weeks ago i after hearing that a plane crashed in the nearby vicinity uh not only did it uh damage the roof of a resident but also damaged the fence at meyer elementary school and you know thank goodness that it was only it was during a saturday during the summer if and now if this were during the school year uh you know uh i could not imagine you know uh the the lives and safety of children and school staff put at risk you know should school have been in session then so i want to uh you know can you know uh i'm glad that our board has taken a position um in support of the closing of a review view as soon as practicable and you know we you know continue to keep keep keep the fight on keeping that closed uh let's see here and lastly i am not no i shouldn't say that thirdly uh great to see russell mcentee and shepherd get their black tops to repave this is the start of uh start of the rebuilding of our district uh you know just a year ago we were you know uh celebrating the delayed 90th anniversary of our district so and you know what a way to kick off the 92nd year our district you know starting with the uh rebuilding and renovations of our facilities for the next 90 years uh the repayment and the replacement you know repayment is just the start of better things that come and i hope that you know our community continues to keep investing so that we can see the big investments come forth uh so uh you know on that note i you know want to wish all of all of us uh you know a very happy start of the new year and i look forward to uh seeing our kids back in class on august the 16th thank you very much right uh we're remembering yes thank you president quintero i also um just wanted to express you know driving around the summer um around some of our campuses seeing some of the progress that we are finally seeing physically to our sites and you know it makes uh makes me very happy to see that happening it's one thing to to talk about changes and plan for changes but when you actually see them physically in front of you um it kind of brings home the that these things are coming to fruition and you know i just remind us all that as a as a board as a district as a community we've for me at least it's been four years of a lot of ups and downs um that a journey that we've traveled together but i think as as vice president fam mentioned this is kind of like the beginnings of a lot more to come there's there's a lot of work that this board is actively um doing and working on and in the middle of that ideally and and what we are planning for is that we'll see a lot more of these improvements and things to help better the experience of our children and our families and alum rocks so i also want to wish our our children and our families a good start to the year i remember you know last year we were talking about these different challenges of dropping off kids and picking up kids and there was a lot of stuff going on in the first few days of school but we kind of weathered that we figured it out as alamoc does and we had a successful year and you know as school starts this year we may see some pickups and bumps but i'm confident that the team and the community together will will have a great start and we'll have a great year and like i said continue as a board and as a district moving towards even more improvements and physical things and not physical things but improvements to our district to move us into what i sometimes like to refer to as as the new alum rock so thank you everyone and and have a great start to the year portfolio thank you um i just want to start off to saying happy new year to everyone the new incoming teachers and staff welcome um also our new families our new students that are coming in to alum rock welcome um all the pre-k tk children um that will you know eventually go through our district you know welcome um enjoy every bit of your school um time here with us um as i get teary-eyed of you know entering my last year as a mother of an 8th grader incoming 8th grader on tuesday um i can't help but to think you know of the um journey that i've gone through um here at elem rock as a parent and then now as uh trustee bahrano mentioned you know where we're at you know just um really i mean um having gone through you know the dark tunnel and now just seeing the light and you know hearing the uh feedback from you know administration administrators saying um that the marquees are up that the um blacktops are seeing them um being able to you know think back when i mean you know it was a danger to walk on some of them um and at the time there was nothing i mean you know we we were kind of tied um our hands were tied and being at a place where our district is so much better um and safer um and just pleasant to be at you know um i i'm just excited um so congratulations to everyone who had a you know part to do with that um from ordering them and making sure that they're in on time you know before school starts um to voting on them right we were here voting on on all those items um so thank you um and then also i want to give a shout out to mr vasquez at meyer for the national night out it was great to see students with backpacks shout outs to council member sylvia arenas for donating those it was great to see the children with ice creams but most importantly it was great to see them and their families out on a tuesday afternoon with smiles and excited to be back on campus you know and excited to start a new school year so thank you for organizing that and having that for our community um and then also just want to invite the community for the uh re-grand opening of the hillview library that's going to happen on august 20th they're at hill view so come out and enjoy you know another positive community event um for the children and families out in our elmrock community thank you well remember trouba is keep it short and sweet since uh a lot of the trustees already covered what i wanted to say but i did want to uh welcome everybody to alan rock and thank you all the teachers and the families and the students sticking with alum rock this year and the future years to come and it was great to go to the csva leadership institute conference and one of the main subjects that they were speaking about especially with everything that's happening was the hazardous preparedness events that they had and they had a lot of people from uh all over the state of texas as well as some from california a lot of police departments and fbi and trying to coordinate and letting the districts know how to better prepare in case of an event should happen so it's always better to be prepared and i'm wondering and gonna ask the follow-up question of dr bauer maybe if there's something that we could do to partner with uh maybe san jose's finest san jose pd and i look forward to maybe uh seeing uh when captain treyer came and he talked about some of the programs that they're doing in other districts as well as the other um i'm sorry i forgot her name right now about the bicycle program that they have rolled out and barius has been doing that for years i'm wondering if we can maybe uh bring that to alumra thank you very much all right um i um i do want to add the uh welcome to everyone back to the this new school year uh the excitement's in the air it's always uh great to you know feel that uh that the sense of a new year than a fresh start so very very excited for that um as my colleague mentioned we had a situation where a plane landed near one of our schools and i am appreciative of those board members who did support our efforts to state our position and put our children first and put the safety of our children first by um by uh moving a forward resolution that's asked for the closure uh reed hill the airport um i was there and i was able to speak to the the family on which uh um you know the airplane hit a light pole simply hit the roof hit their car and slid onto our fence and it was very disheartening to see that um i am appreciative of the public safety personnel from san jose pd firefighters the community service officers that were out there directing traffic ensuring that everything was safe as they were uh cleaning up the site that was under the inve you know was being investigated and first responders were out there responding so thank you all who um were out there to ensure that the site was safe and secure our facility staff that ultimately went out there and had to make sure that uh the fence was repaired so that our kids who are using our facilities there the contango program were able to go back to school and be safe on the site thank you all um as my family and i have been making our way to we uh to hillary library uh we've been able to see it open again and very very exciting to see that uh it's now available um the various times i lose drop by uh the numbers aren't as great and i get it people are clearly still um uh shocked by the events that took place but this is our library this is our community's asset and it needs to be used by us and retaken by us uh these criminals cannot uh take over our facilities and so i'm heartened to see that uh on the day that it was open and reopened uh we had the strong presence of san jose pd welcoming the children back into the library uh there is still security on site and so very appreciative of the efforts have been made by the san jose public library to ensure that it's a welcoming environment and that people feel safe as they make use of their assets this uh library so thank you very much for the city and the support they're providing um with that i'll go ahead and conclude my comments we'll move on to item 7.01 so the discussion consideration approval of resolution number 6-22 forward slash 23 authorizer remote virtual teleconferencing meetings um do i have a motion on this item motion [Music] 7.01 there are currently no speakers present okay on item 7.01 all right um there's no public comment then i'll go ahead and i'll move back to members of the board uh boardroom family i thank you mr president uh you know uh earl in july i asked the administration to uh regarding a road map for the sort of board to return solely just the board and administrative staff to return to the board room so at this time before i ask my question i'd like i mean before i make my comment i'd like to ask dr bauer uh you know what what is the opinion of our technology services about uh the board coming back to the boardroom may i respond board president yes governor um we had a a long conversation with i.t and as the public has seen you know we have uh some glitches with the audio and so the only way for the board to be to have a good audio uh quality during a virtual meeting where the audience is virtual um and the the board needs to be in the boardroom together present and so when we have had that and we have had that in the past when the board has interviewed firms and all board members were inside the ballroom and nobody was connecting from another room or from another place then the audio quality was just fine so respectfully letting the board know that in order for us to continue to have some kind of um safety precautions also for our audience because our ballroom is relatively small in comparison to other board rooms in around the area um we will have to continue with a hybrid way of con conducting the meetings but it would be um better if the board if every board member is in the boardroom together with us members of the staff um in you know conducting the meeting and that that would also alleviate um uh the need during closed session to have multiple um uh people on stem by supporting with the video or the internet or stuff like that because then the board and whoever needs to be in closed session with the board will will be face to face there are further comments okay yes so you know uh you know we've we you know just like uh earlier i mean uh we have you know on we are having see you know serious audio issues where board members are be you know suddenly go silent or uh you know become very difficult to hear we've had board members kick you know kicked out kicked out tonight in the course of meeting online and uh you know uh and you know yeah uh i i regret to inform that you know there there is a possibility of a week in closed session so uh mr president i'd like to amend this this item you know to to specifically state that the board and the staff would return to the boardroom and that uh closed session will be in that closed sessions of the board will be in person going uh effective with the september regular meeting uh will the maker of the motion accept uh the amendment no um you know um you make a substitute motion we'll vote on that if it passes then it is and if not then we go back to the original motion i think mr president we have we have some we have prestige around them all right let's go ahead for more comment um board remember yeah um actually my so my experience um has been actually the opposite i think what has been described when even when and this is was is irrespective of whether or not i have been in the in the physical room because in these instances i was not um but even amongst those that were there the audio on multiple occasions has been even to me at least as an outsider even if i was say observing through youtube or whatever it was more of a challenge when people were in the room with feedback with echoing with hearing people both on the microphone on their own microphone and somebody else's microphone and it's just it's very confusing as an observer and i would imagine as the member a member of the public um so my experience has been a little bit different than what um i think was messaged to us and that's been on multiple occasions and again um my belief is that that is irrespective of whether or not i was in the room physically um or anyone else because that it's kind of like two independent variables what occurred what was occurring with the audio with those who were in the room and then anyone else outside of that is kind of a separate issue so um so that's been in my experience and i think my support for this particular item at this time would um you know be be impacted by or or would that would help to guide my decision on a vote on this at this time so that's it for me right now i just want to clarify in regards to voting we are voting on the resolution to continue to allow virtual meetings correct that's what's on correct it's 7.01 okay so um i i i guess regardless of if things may be changed between now and the next board meeting if we're all here or not um that might be secondary uh but i just wanted to confirm that we are voting on if we are going to continue to have virtual meetings um so thank you for that clarification and yeah i'll continue to support the virtual meetings especially as dr bauer mentioned you know our board meeting our board room is so small um so we definitely need to continue to have this as an option for our public to continue to log on and participate thank you all right um you guys still have your hands up so yes board remember uh board member travis you're muted i agree with what dr bauer said and actually um when i see us here uh we're all pretty much basically at the district i know i'm here the president is here as as well as the other members of the board it just to me makes it a lot easier and as far as closed session goes nobody's in the rooms so there's no problem there and i see that when we were in the boardroom there was problems so that didn't help and i think sometimes it's just an issue of maybe a button gets pressed you know but that might be just at that moment user error but other than that i think that because the public has easier access it's easier to do virtual and i'm going to support that thank you all right for the comments yes you know mr president as i said i am not nothing and we are not going you know off of virtual again i want to make that very clear where i'm just saying propose you know uh uh me uh is dr bauer is uh counsel here is general counsel here yeah uh you know just as a question uh kind you know in reference to what uh you know uh in reference to uh our practice with the interview of the uh of can you know consulting firms and construction firms uh i wanted to ask general counsel is it in the purview of the board president to to have members meet in meet in person in the boardroom so we again we are not you know the audience remains virtual nothing is changing about that community can continue to log in as they have but you know does the board president have the authority to compel uh members to meet in person in the board room and for close session so there's no easy to easy answer to that mostly because this is very much still an unprecedented situation with covid and with the state of emergency declaration still in effect under your board bylaws the uh board the duties of the board president include conducting the meeting and he also acts as a parliamentarian um when he's conducting the meeting but the but it's silent your board bylaws are silent as to whether the board president has the power to control the manner or the the the setting of the meeting under these circumstances so currently you have a resolution in place that allows for virtual meetings if the resolution isn't passed then upon the expiration of that current resolution you have to go back to in-person meetings so i would say given all of those you know all of those points um i don't believe um sitting here right now that the that the board president has the unilateral power to determine whether or not the board has to meet in person especially given the current resolution further questions all right i'm reading the the votes here and it looks like i are going to have it so um if there's no further comments from members of the board i'll go ahead and call you as i see you i called for public comment earlier uh there was one hand up uh east zelda weasel yes there's currently one speaker with the raise time of zelda oh okay um did you did you see the handle when we called the public comment prior uh board vice president i think her hand has been asked for a while oh okay zelda you have please don't meet yourself upon a meeting you have two minutes the time begins when you start speaking so if i called for public comment previously i don't want to make it a practice of reopening public comment uh vice president and so if it was called previously that's i don't know if you recall in the past we've uh people have come in late or presidents of the bargaining groups even haven't been able to get on because we had already gone from public comments so in in order to keep with that practice and we'll go ahead and proceed if that wasn't up before but in this case if they've been called then we'll go ahead and provide them the opportunity yes my hello board my hand was up earlier it just got overlooked um but i appreciate uh being given the chance to address the board real quick before i get into my original statement um i heard one of the board members uh state that because there's a state of emergency still in effect that you guys are going to proceed this way but the state of emergency that's in effect is now for monkey pox not for covid so i just wanted to put that out there for you guys but um my original comment has to do with um the governor and cdc lifting and or changing so many of the restrictions that were put in place for the pandemic i'm disappointed because i was given previous information last year about the mass situation for our children attending uh alum rock school district i've grown up on the east side we currently commute to bring our children to alum rock school district we love the community we chose to commute 15 to 20 minutes to bring our children to that school area we saw many friends and family members over there and it's just that continuing to mask is causing specifically our children we know about other children a real lack of desire for continuing to want to go to school there especially when schools in san jose unified are not masking which would be much easier for our commute i'm very motivated to stay in that school district because it's where i grew up and so it's a great pleasure to have my children attending some of the same schools that i went to uh back then it was called rogers when i was growing up and now it's adelante um i'm curious why um giving the the so many changes in the health regulations and also the scientific knowledge about the virus and how it has mutated uh andres you're on me but hey wait a minute i have a question because uh you know uh question to general counsel wait a minute if uh if the state of emergency was based on covet and now if it's monkey pox then uh you know how valid is this state of emergency so the um the legislation that authorizes the virtual meetings is in the brown act in the government code and there are two conditions two basic conditions towards holding virtual meetings one is that there is a proclaimed state of emergency and then the second that there are um uh recommended social distancing measures at either the state or the local public health uh level the the uh the brown act doesn't say that it has to be a coveted state of emergency it just says it's a state of emergency and then there are recommended social distancing guidelines which there are in santa clara county especially relating to public meetings or public agency meetings um there is still there is still a state of emergency surrounding the governor's original declaration of a state of emergency in in march on march 4 i believe it was march 4th of 2020 the the scope of that state of emergency has been whittled down with subsequent um decrees from the governor but the but the state of emergency itself itself still remains in effect but again it doesn't have to be the state of emergency doesn't have to be specific to cove it it's just a public health state of emergency any more questions now thank you very much uh rogelio all right uh board remember so just to be clear the vote then is on the original motion which is to um accept or support the language on the agenda correct uh there was no second to the amendment uh trustee no you read the amendment oh sorry you're right yeah original you're right and the uh the maker of the motion didn't accept it can we vote okay all right if there's no further questions then i'll go ahead and call for you as i see you since public comment have already been called um uh board member boardwise for their phone now board member travis aye board member remember yes board member uh board clerk hi with my software now the motion passes for one all right moving on to item 7.0 went on to item 7.02 uh approved certification of election uh for june 7th cy direct primary election uh no motion ocean to approve some motion to approve there a second second second by boardroom motion by worker second by board member i don't know is there any comments from the public for president there are no comments all right mr president you're on mute is there any further comments remember i have somebody watching the windows here uh and so therefore i don't want that noise to be transferring over the board me so thank you for letting me know that uh i wasn't muted um is there any further comments from members of the board all right c9 then i'll go ahead and call you as i see you uh 7.02 uh we're voting on 7.02 or vice president actually fam said move to approve he didn't vote yay or no no if if you remember he asked me what item we were on and did you did you vote fam i knew i just said move to approve i you know the board president cut out so i didn't hear that parts all right let's go ahead and redo this so can you hear me board member phone yes now i can hear you all right um how do you how how did you vote on the side all right so motion passes for all right so let's redo this again then obviously if we're having these glitches here motion by board member fam is there a second i i had motion and uh vegeta had second are we redoing it i'm not sure yes at this point there's glitches here that are taking place and i just want to make sure where this certification the election takes place so that uh measure i doesn't get kicked back and yeah certified so now i'm i'm confused and uh so we could probably do it let's redo it again okay because clearly there's been glitches and people can't hear so we're on 7.02 approval certification of the extreme results of june 7 2022 statewide direct primary election measure as stated in the agenda the election took place that we all participated in and that we engaged in a democratic process in our community to approve all right so there's a motion by remembering for a second second second by more restaurants and then hand up by board member yes to your point president just to make sure that it's clean can we just confirm with council that because several of us did vote on a motion in a second that that this redo will trump or or um override that previous vote again just to your point to make it clear i never uh voted and we never finished off the whenever called the the vote as a whole okay so that makes all of our votes that voted nolan voight then just to make sure we do it again to make sure that it's done right all right so we have a motion in a second on the floor and um let's go ahead and move forward as i see you board rights president phone hi board uh member travis no board member all right moving on to item 7.03 so approval contract legal services with santa clara county went ahead and brotto brought this item forward to dr bauer uh because sometimes we need uh the recommendation or the uh the we need the advice the legal advice the county council on on a small number of items every once in a while and so uh it's a relatively small minor contract just to make sure that we have the ability to call on county council in order to get a definitive opinion on some issue um uh so that's the the the item that's before you i'm gonna approve i'm calling for public comment okay board president there is currently no public comment all right all right uh motion by board uh clerk is there a second second all right second by board member but i don't know is there any further comments from members of the board all right um so you know then i'll go ahead and call you as i see you uh board vice president i uh board member uh travis no board member i don't know yes board clerk hi my sophomore night motion passes 4-1 with chavez descenting all right i'm moving on to 8.01 award of bid package and contract for number b2223 dash bonds 1-3 repair and replace play structures uh play mat at san antonio elementary school another one elementary approved second a motion by board member i know second by board member chavez is there any public comments board president there is currently no public comment all right um all right as uh somebody who's seen the mats at uh the schools uh damaged i am thankful to expect that the voters have approved the bond monies to be able to repair the mats unfortunately uh due to some uh vandals uh some of the items do get uh damaged in particular people set fire to the mets and so we're hoping that uh these will last a little longer uh any for the conference members report seeing none then i'll go ahead and call you to see you more vice president i board member chavez board member hi work clerk hi with my sop 49 the motion passes unanimously another 8.02 award of bid package contract number b2223 all right i'm reading these out to ensure that the public is aware that the work is taking place so there's a there's a method to the madness here um thank you to your support uh is there any comments from members of the public president there is currently no public comment all right see no public comment i'll go back to uh back to you dr power to jail we can't hear you you're muted maribel has her hand up and i don't know if it's a a comment on the process oh okay just to alert you um i just wanted to let our interpreter know um juan that he can um leave our meeting um now carlos is going to take over the translation for the spanish and we just want to let him know that all right thank you thank juan juan much appreciated all right um we were at comments from members of the board because there was no full of comments is there any comments members of the board uh board rights prison problem yes so you know kind of you know i since both um both are related i kind of want you know you know this is you know again more progress we have you know we're starting where we've repaid the blacktop we're fixing the playgrounds and we're replacing the signs we're making you know we're making moves with the you know with this first chunk of available bond monies that we have and uh you know this will set us this will set us on the road for uh progressively uh bigger projects down the road pardon me there's a window cleaning in progress there but uh but this points our district in the right direction providing modern facilities for our children so i hope you guys know all right no further comments members of the board all right um we'll go ahead and call you to see you board vice president could you repeat that uh i'm going to go ahead and call you for a vote as i see you hi hi board member travis hi board clerk hi board member hi with my sophomore and i the motion passes unanimously um 8.03 approved contract with studio adobe architects for architectural services who to approve got a motion from foreign president there is currently no public comment all right uh borrowing banana you have come yeah just a quick question or clarification um in the materials it mentions that some of the work that is going to be done is mechanical um and so i was just wanting to see if we can get a little clarification i know it's very clear that roofing is one of the things that will be covered by this particular item but it was the mechanical um classification or mechanical description for some of the sites that i just wanted to see if i can get a clarification i'm not sure if that's hvac or electrical or what that might be ajac falls into the maps which is mechanical trees that would be it but i'm sure that dr bauer can you are correct trustee vegeta you asked me that question in one-on-one and i think this is a fantastic question to clarify for everybody in the audience yes it's it's issues with um the hvac issues with electricity things like that okay so good i mean so then just kind of piggybacking on vice president fam again you know we obviously hvac is one of the issues that we all of us have as parents or board members or whatever it may be have you know had ongoing discussions about and this again is the evidence of continued progress in the right direction and so there's a number of sites here that we're going to be um looking at addressing those issues and so i'm happy to see that and thank you for the clarification on that all right um i'll go ahead and provide my comments as well i think it's important to note that for a while we were stalled in what we could do in the repairs and so if you heard some of us talking with excitement about blacktops and mon and these signs and hvac systems it's because we've been uh unable we've got our hands tied because of a lot of problems that took place previously that we've been able to work through and to fix and resolve and so for the members of the public who are just tuning in and aren't aware why are these clowns so so excited about blacktops well it's because we've been getting the complaints and i've seen the pictures on social media of excited parents that have passed by and have seen this uh fresh new blacktop where the kids can play and have fun uh and without having to be concerned about tripping and falling and so that's the reason why you hear us uh talk with the excitement about all these projects um you know i was passing by fischer i saw the fence down like oh no what happened what turns out is equipment that's been moved in so they can finish up some projects so that that's why you hear such excitement for members of the board uh and as well as some members of the public who have spoken about this it's because we're able to now finally use the resources that we've been entrusted by the public to go ahead and resolve some of those uh issues that have been ongoing for several years so um i'll go ahead and call you as i see you if there's no further comments from members of the of the board uh board vice president farm hi board member travis hi board clerk hi what a member of hanover i myself wouldn't have moisture past university uh moving on to item 9.01 so approval resolution number zero four dash two two four slash two three to accept the cal shape rent the amount of 1.2 million dollars all right uh we have a motion by word vice president this is their second second second by board member chavez do you have comments from members of the public president there is currently no public comment all right um is there further comments from members of the board i'll see you none then i'll go ahead and call you i'll see you wherever your phone aye board member charles hi we're clerking uh moving on to 10.01 approved obsolete materials um some map motion books there uh there's a motion by board member chavez second by board member but i don't know is there comments from members of the public what president there is currently no public comment all right uh further comments members of the board see none that i'll call you as i see you board vice president hi board member travis hi board member 11.01 certificated substitute pay rates effective august 12th 2022 go motion motion and i have a question too okay you have a motion was there a second second second second by board right further than bomb uh comments from members of the public for president there are currently no public comments all right uh there's a question from board member chavez yeah um so when i was on the one-on-one with dr bauer uh one of my questions was that i noted that the elementary and the middle school are both getting the same and then i asked um is it more difficult to get a substitute for the middle school and it is so when when they so what i would ask for is could we consider because it is more challenging uh if the board would consider giving middle schools more uh dr bauer can you explain what you explained to me please i was thank you is it okay board president um trusty chavez brought up to my attention something that we have done in the past during the pandemic we just wanted to make sure we got subs and we brought this to the board with the same amount but i think she has a valid a concern and since these are individuals that are not represented by anybody um sometimes we have to be fair right we as administrators look at the need and things like that so when she asked me is there any way we can bring have a discussion around this this is regarding the daily rate for middle school subs and in the past there was a 50 difference between the elementary daily rate for subs and the middle school daily rate for subs so if the board so desires it might have this um this can be amended right now approved as presented with the amendment of uh allowing us to pay middle school stops 50 dollars more and also can i sorry about that can i also comment the reason why is because um if if i was a teacher and i've heard many subs say this that they would rather go teach in an elementary because it's more difficult to teach to middle schoolers and if you remember if all of you remember when you were middle school some of them were like the word says more challenging and sometimes more challenging means you have to give a little bit more in order to make sure that the subs are in place that's all thank you uh i think andres is frozen you're muted yeah i think he's frozen he's not moving so you can call on yourself trust me vice president fam yeah okay so uh is there any other are there any other questions by other members of the board comments okay hang on uh personally hirono uh yes i mean i think i'm pretty i'm pretty sure i know the answer to this but just for the purposes of i guess the public there would be no um significant impact on our budget um by amending this motion correct oh okay thank you okay and any other questions or comments from members of the board okay trustee chavez i would like to amend the this to say uh 250 for the middle schoolers uh make a motion to amend do is there a second oh hang or hang okay uh i will hold off on that because actually i have a question uh to the board and you know traditionally the presiding officer waits until all other members of board have had their uh say uh question dr bauer uh you know you know this is a certainly an item worthy of consideration i you know it sounds good in principle however uh would it uh would it not be would it not be prudent to to con to at least have consultation with the affected bargaining unit first to ensure that uh we do not have to ensure that we do have buy-in from our all right what i don't know we still on the uh substitute yes i apologize horrible internet connection no no so just just in just two so i acted as presiding officer while you were reconnecting and i asked uh dr bauer questioned about conferring with uh with the appropriate bargain with the appropriate labor union and if i can interrupt i also made a motion but he said wait he wanted to have you inside the meeting all right so um what was talking about i'm gonna respond uh i don't i don't think it's wise to set a precedent because these are non these are not known they're non-members of the unit and i can assure you teachers will be very happy if there are people coming in their rooms subbing for them we have never had any issue with this we bring to the board we've always you know have the support from the board so we have we start school on tuesday and we i can assure you we are going we are we're getting calls for subs so this will be something that will hopefully ease the way um of bringing for us to bring uh enough subs during this the school year all right uh i'm gonna what was the motion that you had made the motion was to add because it's more challenging uh for the middle schools to get the subs that if it would be 250 if the board would consider giving middle schools 50 more in order to ensure that we could have the subs for the middle schools all right doctor so the board may approve the item with the amendment of giving middle school 250 that would be my suggestion and it will be both things both things can be accomplished that way all right you had uh you there was already a motion on the table though so this is a substitute motion that's the same one original motion substitute notion no my original was with the amendment you move to approve item whatever it is i don't i item 11.01 but with the amendment we're going to get to where you want to go okay thanks give me a second sure made a motion it was already on the table however another substitute motion if this prevails then it just it passes and that's it okay we need to go back to 1.01 so there's a substitute motion to the original motion made by the same person is there a second to that which i have the fifty dollars second all right so that's a motion by chavez second round to add uh fifty dollars to the medical teacher substitute pay rate um is there any further discussion you know board vice president yes you know i mean and that's the case uh question to the superintendent couldn't could we do a small increase for the elementary substitutes also knowing that the general environment is uh uh is also difficult for subs at all levels i i believe the point was i'm sorry sorry so there's a motion in a second at this point i just asked the question i'm not touching um all right do you want to make an amendment to this motion to the amendment to the amendment waiting for the superintendent's answer before you know offering them so you know do we have do we have room to offer an increased city elementary subs i think that there should be significant difference trusted fam to be able to attract people to the middle school i nothing will be better for me to say absolutely yes but i don't think that that we will achieve what we want to achieve which is people signing up for the middle school okay all right fair enough thank you all right uh so there's the uh amen there was yes there's already a second so uh but remember oh yeah i just i had noticed that mr toriko had come on so i don't know if he had anything he wanted to contribute here just in case we had a question yeah thank you board member no i was making myself available if there were any questions uh thank you very much for um discussing this it certainly helps us in um attracting new subs and certainly i i appreciate the discussion uh into this because it's something we work on very hard in our department thank you all right so it looks like there's i'm gonna go ahead and call you to see if there's no further comments uh board member travis aye board member uh barclayer guerrero hi uh board member aye board rushed for their phone hi oh with myself we're not motion passes all right um can i ask one question yes when does this go into effect dr bauer says that i think you can answer that it's immediate right tomorrow right yeah right it'll be ready if the question it'll be ready for the first day of school thank you all right uh moving on to item 11.2 resignations is for information only feel free to read it at your leisure is there any members of the public wishes pecan item 11.02 or president there is currently no speakers all right uh moving on to 12.01 this is approve a master contract with tutor work academic service for 2022 2023 school year uh do you have public comment on that item all right move up move for approval by vice president palmer the second by board member chavez uh board member i don't know your comments pretty far you sound like you're really far away boy president there's currently no public comment all right boy remember am i up okay yeah uh sorry i i forgot to mute myself but um quick question um in reading the materials i was just wondering if we have a clarification um or a little more specific information as to how many schools how many sites or how many students we anticipate serving with this um i know it's uh and in talking with dr bauer it is really based on um the needs as they may arise for for students at any given site but i just um was wondering just to get a sense of how this is being allocated as to those proposed number of students or sites that will be served do we have any of that information yeah i call sandra garcia to provide that explanation she um she's joining us because um i ask her to be ready for this thank you trustee vegeta thank you thank you miss garcia you may proceed with the answer am i in my own yes oh okay sorry i wasn't sure if i was on okay um so the 250 000 is not to exceed 250 000 and if you remember a few months back i brought information to the board regarding the elop funds which are intended for extension of support during our after-school programs and uh part of that program is to provide enrichment programs for students but also um intervention type support like tutoring homework centers and things like that so tutorworks has been a partner of ours for i want to say about eight years uh eight or nine years they have provided um tutoring at several of our schools after school tutoring um and also district programs like for our foster youth migrant youth they have summer programs in person and virtually over the past few summers they've been a great partner and so the intent of this contract is to provide services at the school sites in coordination with our extension of after school programs this year and also to open it up part of it as an opportunity for any other schools that have additional site fundings and one um i'm sorry site funding and want to um participate in the contract so so then there's not really been um how do i ask uh what i'm what i'm trying to get it you get an idea of here is just roughly you know how much we where the district spends per student or per group or per site on these types of things um and so i'm i i'm not sure because usually when i see these i try to do that math and just get a rough sense of you know is this a service that is you know in the same ballpark as what we paid per student or per school or is this for some reason way low or way high and it's so why um and so i don't hear that that we have any of those specifics ms garcia um i do hear that it will be open to other schools that are not currently receiving tutoring but i guess then am i correct to assume that we do not have any more specific information as to um specifically what or how we intend to spend these funds driver sandra let me just i don't know if you have in front the the contract the contract states that the hourly rate per student is 42 dollars and cents so if you divide uh the total amount of the contract because it's up to we don't know we're gonna use them right it will provide about 5952 hours of tutoring across the district however those are gonna be divided you know how how who's gonna get what but that gives you a sense about you know about 6 hours worth of tutoring for the kids in alum rock since we have about 7 900 um enrolled students right now it's almost almost an hour per kid across the district i don't know if that helps it does yes and thank you i i must have missed that 42 or whatever you mentioned because that's the number i was looking forward to so somehow i missed it so thank you for that and it is great to hear that you know theoretically that that covers a a great deal of our students who will need those services so thank you and uh dr powell and santa knife you're still there yeah the tudor works is one of the partners that we have correct yes we have still maine and other services that we've contracted with so they're part of a portfolio that's available to our schools to provide that extra support of the children needed yes you are correct all right uh board member travis you had a hundred so how was it determined how you get on the list if there's only a limited number we've done a lot of research and outreach to several organizations and and i want to say that a lot of organizations now are only doing virtual tutoring and um so these are those that are willing to come on campus and do in-person tutoring the virtual tutoring wasn't very popular anymore this past year parents really were looking for on-site tutoring for kids to be on i mean for tutors to be on-site working with their students so these are the tutoring companies that are able to offer that for our kids so um i'm sorry that my i think my question was how do you sign up to receive the services correct who takes pri who's you know is there a priority list oh got it so there's different ways um one of the things we do first is uh look at data look at school data and so we have recently um we'll be getting a report of each site to see you know what grade levels are in most need of support um which schools and then we'll kind of look at that area but then i also um offer it up to uh principals that if they have a particular need then they reach out and then we are able to provide that date that service at their school as well but as they set up here my intent is for all schools to have some type of tutoring support in coordination with the expansion of the after-school programs so would it be incorrect for me to say whoever needs it the most is is priority or what would you say miss sandra i would say that we do prioritize certain groups of students as you know in our lcap you know our foster youth our english learners and our low-income students they are the um the most high-need students that we are obligated to serve first but of course we're not going to leave other students out if they need the support and we will have those conversations with principals thank you miss sandra thank you um and then just i know it says any school interested in participating and i heard you say too that if a principal says i really need this that you know then you would look into it um so i think that was part of my questions um trustee because thank you for asking that because it was just very important for me to understand like is it available for everybody is it um you know is it not um [Music] and i know sandra that you know if if it's not this one that any of our students that needs tutoring um you know that maybe is not connected to this one that they would get it um so i'm confident about that but on this one in particular um i did have those questions so thank you for that um and you know i like i think for me the fact that you said you know that if a principal like i said um calls and says i need this program that then um you would also look into connecting that so yeah okay thank you for answering all the questions and being here absolutely is it safe to say that every site has access to some sort of service of tutoring support or after school support for the kids yes all right that was my understanding and so it's usually in the letter that's sent home to the parents at the bottom or somewhere there saying if you need extra support make sure to call this number that type of language is usually what takes place correct yes and then i want to remind you that last year i did allocate 30 000 to each site to use for this purpose for tutoring for developing a tutoring and or homework center at every site er principals had to submit a plan of how they were going to implement the tutoring and homework services at their site so that's something that we're also going to um provide this year in addition to what we're doing and so that's why when it says that uh any school can can participate in this contract they can also use their additional site funds to add additional support at their school all right thank you for bringing the services that bring the in-person support i know that if uh some of the public library in particular provides online tutoring services and so we're in competition with them if we go to an online sort of uh only approach so um thank you for bringing it back in person for the questions seeing none then i'll go ahead and call you as i see you we've called already for public comment uh do you have your hand up is there any um i just wanted to say that um there was no motion and no second so um i made the motion [Music] um i have um sabrina here who's shouting me today and she's she didn't hear emotion either motion i i heard a motion in a second because i was waiting to ask my question until those occurred yeah i got him recorded but i heard him trusty fan motion and i second yeah yeah border travis and best president of fun were competing with each other to see who made the motion first no i let him go first you beat you all right uh motion by vice president bomb second by board member chavez correct correct all right um we've called for public um for a public comment and i'll go ahead and call you to see you or members hi board vice president hi board member travis hi not in motion passes anonymously we're into item 13.01 you have uh public comment on 13.01 but before i move towards oh this is consent calendar starting with approved the entire balance of the consent calendar from 13 um any uh comments from the public please indicate by raising your hand board president there is currently no public comments all right um for the comments for members of the board see now i'll call you as i see you blur clerk hi board member hi [Music] i'm board rights president board remember travis hi myself 49 motion passes all right um i think that uh mr toriko already reported what happened in closed session previously so we don't need to do that um future agenda requests please uh reach out to the superintendent and uh they will go ahead and deal with those uh board member travis do you have a hand up uh i'll just re send them to dr bauer thank you sounds good all right at this point uh we've made a record no 8 43 i'll go ahead and adjourn this meeting at 8 43. have a good night everyone good night good night

yeah that was it I was right uh around five thousand dollars Morgana around five thousand dollars a year wow what I just say I don't know exactly you're all about you're just making fun of me bringing them back in high school but what I'm saying is this 13 a day that's what what is that that's like that's like a McDonald's meal you're like oh I'm gonna go to McDonald's it's easy do that 300 65 days a thousand dollars in McDonald's that's five thousand dollars away so You're Gonna Save five thousand if you just save 13 a day okay sorry uh go back to what you tell me about how dumb that was because that was pretty smart I use numbers two copies yes and you get two coffees a day yeah right I mean that's that is that is important and so I think uh budgeting is is huge and I'll talk about this in that upcoming video budgeting you know I think a lot of people are scared to budget because you might be scared of what you might find but I think it's also it's similar to counting calories you know if you count calories and you realize how much you're consuming each day and you wonder why you're putting on weight well just kind of calories and go oh that's maybe that's why it's kind of similar to budgeting yeah you know where if you what is it not right no no I think I think people are in the the studio audience is like hey Travis let's put on some power so let's uh let's calm down over here on that or perhaps you just say some things and you don't really budget what's coming out of your mouth and you could be driving a deficit in somebody's heart where they're going to consume more calories later that's pretty funny thank you that's pretty clever uh so budgeting is important though it you know it gets a bad rap but all it is is you're just kind of taking care of this it took you a lot to earn it you know you should take care of where it's going yeah right it takes effort either way there's a Dave Ramsey quote about that that says it's telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went yeah right and so I think it's I think that's important so I think you kind of start there and then you kind of work from there and then there's just so many different things that you need to set up and pay yourself first is a huge thing that I didn't learn until I was much older um and it doesn't it doesn't mean buying a pair of shoes it means paying yourself so you're setting that money aside right maybe feeding everyone else at the table first is probably the opposite of that so that you you have you didn't take less calories is what they say okay you were funny before I think yeah I think look at those look at those laughs anyway uh yep people say okay I'm 23 and married never anyone teach me about my money and how to save it's hard in my opinion I want to start my own business one day again you need to do a series at this point maybe a summer short series or some fall series or some or money Series yeah um no I plan to I plan to talk more more and more about money the dad had your face on a um Photoshop that on a money that's your on it that's good that's clickbait just spitballing yeah that's good write that down drop that down yeah um so that was our script that was it we just answered some questions here uh yeah yeah hey that's a great idea yeah what's your favorite go ahead I was gonna say so so this is the mug that I've been using on my uh reels and it's actually from the Great Smoky Mountains so you just don't get to see that there you go that's facing me and this is the coffee mug that I'm using it's Grand Canyon which is very close to Las Vegas uh so uh peppermint peppermint mocha creamer is my creamer of choice I like pumpkin spice but they only have it for limited time that was my joke that was the joke I couldn't remember my joke remember my joke okay okay uh what did uh one gourd who was in love with another gourd say don't know hey pumpkin laughs that's it she liked it wow that's good okay fine how about this what did one gourd fine all right wanna enough spice sit up pumpkin spice anyway uh what's what's so what do you guys like to put in your like a fresh dose of humor in the morning uh can you do this out of 10 to a small garden yes most grocery stores have a small guard pumpkin spice or chocolate caramel Christina and another Christina and I'm your age dad and still need money advice can you include money info for rh2 yeah I I I'll try to you know it's obvious a little difficult to yeah everybody's at different stages but um yep so Morgana what type of tea are you drinking though is it just regular tea I don't know I don't know coffee out the nomadic movement coffee coffee right now check out the nomadic coffee chocolate caramel I'm drinking tea Earl Gray would you have any advice on men and finding love to a daughter please it's a little difficult to know exactly where people because his daughter and son-in-law's in the room doesn't really want to say anything that might be offended I think I think a big I would say a big thing and this is why I told my son and uh because he was single for a while and I just said you know take it slow and be best friends I think it's so important to be friends before you get into all the other complicated stuff you know look for somebody that you can hang out with and be buddies with yeah so yeah you know Uncle uh Rob he's my uncle I say it weird but uh he told me when I was like 15.

I was probably my son's age and I'm like wanting to work wanting money I wanted to have a girlfriend and he he came alongside me and he said hey you got you got your whole life to worry about the two W's and that's work and women so just enjoy what you got right now I was wise he was he said I said put that on a t-shirt but he didn't say that and I was like yeah you know I guess that's true and then that's like I don't know a day I was like yeah that's right and then I was like worrying about money and women again um I've got you know here's me my my daughter is 18. I got another daughter I was 17 and my 18 year old she's got a boyfriend you know it's uh for what I've what I have come to learn is it's it's better for me to have just be the listener in to my daughter and have her just kind of like when anytime it's good or bad or whatever and I'm just listening and listening but then I can also help like her kind of understand a a man's brain because I think there's a point where she's also coming to me she's trying to figure out like why why is he wanting to hang out with his friends all the time you know and it's like well he's not rejecting you he's just a guy and guys sometimes just like to go and you know throw the ball at the park and stuff like that so um anyway I just I yeah I would say too I think it's important to not try to find somebody to fill a void in your in your own life I think it's so important to learn how to enjoy enjoy yourself and be good to yourself and treat yourself well and be your own best friend start there um instead of hoping that you can find somebody to fill that void and then you're in a really good place that reminds me the MOG from Spaceballs where he's like I'm a log half man and half dog I'm My Own best friend so somebody said I saw and I was trying to read but you were rambling actually 0.5 seconds so it says I feel so old at 28 but I've always wanted to go to med school I just hope it's not too late I don't think it's too late no I mean at 28 is no yeah no you think pretty young and you know I think a lot of people in their 20s you're still trying to figure out you know especially if you haven't had a whole lot of guidance maybe um or maybe you were trying to live what your parents wanted you to wanted you to do you know and then you broke free from that so now this is what I've always wanted to do they wanted me to do something else I just think yeah 28's young um and I've always told my kids too is you know I Christine moved to Knoxville and she was there for two years two years went by like that and then she's back and now she's gonna go do something else you know so time just flies you you think you know four years oh or eight years it'll go by you know and so if you if it's something you really want to do I would encourage you to do it I would just be careful with taking out a whole bunch of loans uh because you know you don't want to bury yourself and then maybe med school doesn't work out and then you then you have all these loans and you didn't finish um because you see people do that right and I think also what you do all you know as you're trying as you're kicking that around is just go you know read about it look at you know look it up get more interested in it and or maybe just figure out what is it that you why is it that med school is or or you know is there something else that you could do that would not be maybe that same long path that you're looking at um but you can still get the same fulfillment and still contribute in a way that you feel feel good about it yeah so what happens if you don't pay back your loans I think uh all kinds of things that happen but I you know uh I would say if you took out loans you should pay back your payback and you know I think that's the the right thing to do although I think you know so I remember when my daughter went to school and we we looked for financial aid and they came back and said um we'll give you this Grant and all these loans what you know it was kind of it was presented in such a way that it was a little bit sneaky oh just signed these papers the next thing you know you're taking out these loans I said we're not taking out loans we're going to do whatever we can to to power through this and thankfully my wife went back to work and then we were able to kind of make the sacrifices to get there but just be careful with that I think I I thought it was a little bit sneaky I was looking for the grants I wasn't looking for oh yeah this loan and that loan and this loan and that loan and you know you know pretty soon you yeah have a lot of loans so and they don't leave you alone but oh we've got it we we've got a delay here I know that would look like a delay there there's a delay here um what do you saying what um uh so they'll go after your bank accounts hi Army for life yeah hey look do we want to read the the what are we wanting to talk about that on the podcast or here what are the emails that you that sent from the man that was uh working out listening to us yeah we'll save that for the podcast yeah thanks yeah so that's a little tease for you guys but we're getting emails from people that we will read on the podcast that comes out every Tuesday podcast every Tuesday you have it on Spotify I Heart Radio uh Apple podcasts and we read the email so the email if you want to email I know you guys are writing the questions out here but go to dadpodqs gmail.com gmail.com and uh we will read them and answer them okay so I this is perfect to adjust this we talked about this on uh on the podcast so it says Dear Rob please unblock the channel where your videos are translated into Russian I'm glad you're here so you can understand the predicament that I I was in so when my channel went viral um my uh a guy in Russia started using my my stuff and he was dubbing it over in Russian I have a problem with it honestly but uh I reached out to him and said hey you know um what's going on here again didn't know what I was doing just thought it was the right thing for he he didn't go through the proper channel so I I wrote him and said hey you know um I'm gonna I'm blocking it I need to hear from you so he writes me back and when he writes me back it's his uh you know on your on your email on Gmail it has a picture it was a picture of me and so I felt like he's pretending to be me and he writes me back and he says hey why'd you block the channel you didn't go through the proper channels here and so I went proper channels but so I ended up saying I'm I'm happy to unblock it but what I need from you is you're not going to make money on it and uh what did I say and if I ever see that you are making money on it I'll block it again just to see where's real motives were is it because he's trying to help the Russian people or is it because he's trying to take advantage and he never heard he never wrote me back after that so there you are that's that's the reason why not trying to be a jerk about it he just didn't he didn't ask me and he just ran with it and then he was pretending to be me and so I said well you know it's it the ball's in his court he never wrote me back there you go and then uh Morgana knew she's like oh it's the guy uh Keyshawn hey Keyshawn I like your I like the dab and uh the how do I figure out what my oil my car needs uh if you're if you look in your glove compartment you should find the manual in your about your car it's usually in there there's a lot of I mean it's not gonna teach you how to fix everything but it should tell you what your what oil your card needs uh what type of gas is the best I want to say that and also some other things that are you know how to how to refill your windshield wipers kind of basic things there too yeah also I I think oil um so I uh on mine I know um it's on the cap it even says it right on the cap what the what the oil is and I think actually it's also where the tire pressure is when you open up your door and there's a sticker there I think the oil is there too it says what oil it is but also you can Google it you know just Google your car and say what the oil does this take oh Adam's already on and Alexander your car manual hey Adam yeah listen do we come into your area and talk about how to do art show you how to paint yeah come on we get it here by the way Adam did you see this amazing painting yeah just making sure you saw it okay that was without you yeah that's not a picture either uh as far as you know uh you can search by Ben oh that's good there's and there's uh websites that you can look you can search bins on and get some information on that uh yeah how do I figure oh my God okay yeah yeah yeah he was misrepresenting you absolutely thank you for understanding you know again not trying to be right not trying to be a tough guy about it I was just like let's just make sure ah okay bro I need more vids on how to fix appliances I was 16 trying to help my mama figure out how to put a new belt on the dryer Adam how to fix appliances yeah I died when I was a newborn I'm so sorry uh so I looked on your channel for stuff thanks some things are difficult to do uh on my channel because there's you know there's a bunch of different dryers there's a bunch of different washers there's a bunch of different you know and so if there's a bunch of different cars how to change a blinker you know how to change a a light bulb or whatever um each One's Gonna Be a little bit different too so some of those things and plus it is difficult to um kind of share this with Travis I think before to record yeah everything yeah because and it I I compare it to actually when my kids were growing up and it's I could go do that and do it myself and do it quick or I could include my kids which is the right thing to do right so that they know how to do it and kind of walk through it it just slows down the process and some things I have so many things that I need done around around my house after the remodel that I just need to get done and so and it's hard to actually take the time to to record it and then edit it and then yeah so you know the the good thing is so my dad did that a lot he would take me outside and show me okay so we're gonna do breaks and then um any all right get down here and this is how you take the caliper and I'm and and then it turned into where I was you know we have a limited amount of time and so he kind of took it over I learned that so as a pro tip if you're a son just go slow and then your dad will take it over and he'll do it for you you hold the light though and you're part of it and he may get a wrench uh Kane my son he I taught him how to mow about like two years ago I would say about two years ago he is dynamite at it right now though so there are some things that you're that you can teach your kid and it it's it is so fulfilling to see he get him getting up with it he looks at it it looks good and I like it so um yeah so some of those things you can teach yeah it is rewarding you know I yeah don't get me wrong I'm just trying to explain yeah how it works a little bit because it's it is it's hard to set up a camera angle so you can see it and then talk about it while I'm doing it when really I I need to get it done yeah I just got things I got to get done and then somebody you you you're a cooker you like to cook yeah and someone said uh let's see where that more cooking videos neem croissant I will I will do that uh yep so I'm planning to do more cooking I mean I'm not they're gonna is there down the road if there's enough appetite for it yeah Dad joke um a dad uh Dad how do I cookbook we'll see I don't know I don't know that I have uh enough of my own recipes that are amazing so I burn water uh and then just so people are kind of jumping in this explanation of what this is again like what why are we doing a live what's this Saturday you know I want to do more lives I do we just uh you know been busy I think it's fun to connect with all of you and to see where all you're from and you know I think it it's fun and so I want to do it more um and you know we'll probably do some on Facebook and someone and I may even do it on Tick Tock we'll see so and how long are they relatively we're at 45 minutes how long do you really want to we're about 45 minutes yeah so can we probably be wrapping up here is there anything else that we missed so yep get a lot of attention yep traveling I do want to do some traveling um show you how to how I travel so I'm from Chicago we love you guys from Raleigh thanks for the live good day yeah we won't keep you yeah more so it's been great hanging out with you guys thank you so much for your support thanks for your encouragement hopefully this was fun for all of you and we'll uh we'll do some more so yeah is there anything else you want to add traps you know uh just please continue to do what you guys have been doing commenting liking subscribing sharing and uh and then just being a part of of the growth of Dad how do I and it's been a lot of fun to just sit back and be an observer uh for a bit and then I'll also kind of be a part of it here and it's been been a lot of fun yeah so thank you for inviting me yeah yeah of course thanks everybody and yeah we do have our podcast so a reminder you know this is It's kind of got a little bit of a similar Vibe so remember to check that out if you got time and if you don't that's fine too uh so thank you guys love you and we'll see you again thank you take care foreign

yes please join the united us of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice thank everyone for coming out after a probably a hectic day dr stewart you'd like to recognize anyone individually it was a very rewarding day so we're very excited we were actually out in buildings today watching the students come back and get off the buses and enter the schools administration been working hard teachers have been working hard tonight we have some of our administration with us some that will be giving reports and we have president vice president of the cea joining us tonight thank you for being here normally going to public comment we don't have any deceiving so we'll go on to action reports i need a motion second to discuss and approve the consent agenda so moved second in your board packet you have your revenue and expenditure summary reports revenues are currently at 2.36 compared to 3.04 a year ago expenditures are at 6.26 percent compared to 5.79 a year ago this month the district received 215 312 dollars and 61 cents for 25 new home starts in impact fees and no transition fees came in the bills payable for both northern kane and central are typical for the month of august pretty light and then our annual audit started this week or last week they were here for a week and they were here today it's going pretty well so it's going fast and i talked to them last thursday i think maybe yeah i got a call from him forget his name brian yeah warner yep well everything looks like it's coming up they're cruising um they've got i've got a list of things to kind of pull some details for they they've done all the field audits so they don't feel they're coming back onto property anymore we can do it digitally so as long as i can keep getting the stuff done by the end of the week then they hopefully will have it on time so we don't have to file an extension but they're under a tight schedule too so any hold up could delay us but right now everything seems to be clean so good job dicker you all right bulk yes yes melon yes rave yes yes yes next we need a motion second to re-designate great schools a hazardous bus route so move second the illinois department of transportation in 2017 designated prairie view is a hazardous bus route because there's no like walkway over nestler road there's no safe way for people citizens in the community children to walk to school safely so that designation stands but every year the board of education still has to reapprove that it's still a hazardous route that would allow us to be reimbursed for the busing for those students to discuss and improve the veterinary science affiliation agreements so move second so these are affiliation agreements uh we have three of them that are coming forward this allows for our students to have their field experience and our agreements for this month include animal medical clinic of saint charles and then the dundee animal hospital of dundee and the dundee animal hospital of elgin are these re-ups from annual last year yes these are all which we've worked with before all right nolan yes grape yes yes yes gorman yes next motion second to discuss and approve the bid proposals for the construction of the new maintenance and transportation office so moved second so you in your board packet you have numerous bid proposals to go out to the various trades they're included in there you have a bid summary for the total amount and then you have a bid breakdown of the various companies that submitted bids and um the recommendation for awards the lowest responsible bidders we worked with our construction management firm charles mcnutt and our architect larson and derby on the project is there anything surprising dan and the overall like what the numbers came in at based on what you had anticipated we budgeted yeah material costs obviously are up in just about everything transportation costs yeah so it is slightly higher than we anticipated budgetarily but it's kind of the nature of the times where we're living in so like five percent ten percent yeah it's about two hundred thousand more than wow twenty-five just the structure itself went up fifty thousand dollars in two years all right it's crazy yeah but now we're locked in yes well if we would accept yeah once you approve it yep thief yes bulk yes fanfield yes nolan yes gorman yes last item uh motion second are needed to discuss and approve the tentative budget for the northern king county regional vocational system so second so while this is loading up tonight we're presenting the fy 23 tenant of the budget for northern kane asking you to formally approve this tentative budget public notice is going to go in the daily herald tomorrow and that will be on display for the 30 days that it needs to be this slide did not change from last year but just to kind of give an overview the northern kane county regional vocational system efe-110 it's a organization consisting of these four schools listed here and basically it's just trying to bring more offerings and opportunities to the students and gives us more collaborative efforts to pool their resources and give better things for the schools to offer oops this slide kind of shows same thing nothing new has been changed from last year but these are all the different offerings throughout the region they're just kind of alphabetical they're all offered at different schools and then the focus last year and then continuing into this years is kind of strengthening and enhancing the programs that are here um and yeah like i said nothing new has been added so or removed how many of these do we have kids from chs in uh so we have them in automotive servers and welding in the manufacturing right now we do not have them in the other ones across the way video production is one of the ones we want to offer from a regional perspective so terry's consistently working with our partners to try to is that south elgin is where isn't that where the production like broadcasting isn't isn't that the broadcasting but we off we also offer video production matt billings so one of the ones we would like to offer where we could do it here as well and the reason i mean one we have a great teacher here in the district and then south elgin's program they have students transfer to south belgium as that program right and they have to start their freshman year throughout their entire high school for that program so these are the reasons right now you're just ahead aside but you said that as far as this list that the other was we don't have students that already know these different why is that they just some of these we we've got regional agreements that we just need staffing foreign and interest these are ones we've agreed to to begin with not to say we can't expand and terry's consistently working on expansion also works with the alignment group that works with business partners so as we continue to look at opportunities across regionally for job markets he's working with those partners as well then we would add a regional uh commitment but this is where we're committed right now got it okay it's a busting um it's challenging for busting of course as you can imagine because we bust off to hampshire to different schools and u46 u46 buses to us uh same thing for d300 so it's always that maneuvering of school buses as well larkin will be a cna program i'm assuming that's what the allied healthcare is one of those would be the cna program correct and that is isn't that already offered or not is not offered at this time it's only offered for you 46 students right now at the current outreach okay in last year's budget i had that it was coming in the fall of 23.

yep [Music] thank you mr president members board dr smith yeah demo we keep tearing down and rebuilding at lc and uh the two-story is almost down lc new edition we're in it and uh fully occupied uh all three floors you see their front entrance office space hallways that was at about 10 30 when i took that uh picture in the hallway not a student in the hallway that's pretty awesome uh the gym nearing completion we're getting ready to turn that back over to them for their use ln new pool is really coming along still have again we almost have a little over a year left in finishing up that new pool a lot to be done roof continues on as you can see there as well inside locker rooms and also just a quick update on rjb if you recall we had eight nine open positions those uh are off field now with our de rjb employees and in those schools working so we continue to work together we again met today and uh we continue to fine-tune that and move that forward one question for roger roger can you share for the board what are you doing with furniture for the two high schools because that's a question that will come up how are we handling that the uh most of the furniture for both the high schools have been i've lost the sound by the way scene one two can you hear me you can't hear roger speaking to your mic roger yeah can you hear me now uh the two high schools we have both most of the furniture has been purchased however they're on a schedule uh we have uh equipped the three three-story with new furniture and as we move on over the next couple of months we'll put in new furniture in the new areas that have been renovated and we'll conti continue to do so as the building finishes furniture at ln will start coming in november for their three story that will be moving them into by the first of the year and we'll follow that same schedule with them so when their new furniture for example performing arts and arts we'll also replace their furniture at that time as well mr president members board dr smith again we're finalizing phase three at the high schools the site improvement plan and this scope of work is for both high schools so a lot of the athletic improvements the hard surface the plaza area signage basically everything that we're going to see and touch on the outside of that building is pretty much in this bid we did have 17 different bids and we have six bids that have totaled 24 million 536 dollars for these two sites and we are nearing permitting especially with the new land north of lc so we will again moving along the schedule there hopefully have all the permits and actually get some site work done yet this fall so upon the approval from the board we would recommend these six bids and we'll discuss those in action items yep i can mr president dr smith members of the board earlier this summer we were looking at needing let me back up on the referendum bonds we did it in phases so we weren't paying more interest than we needed to we had planned on two more bond issuances but with the rates going up like they were talking to our financial advisors they felt it best if we do both the next two phases in one bond issue so we went out and saw what the estimated market rate was and then they also said if you can do a private sale you might get a better rate the estimated market rate at the time was just under 4.2 percent and we were able to secure a 3.82 percent on the remaining bonds that we sold for the referendum and 3.82 sounds like a lot compared to what we paid the last time about 1.9 but if you compare that to what it was 10 15 years ago those are great rates so we just got spoiled by low rates so we decided to go ahead and pull the trigger on that for the 58 million that was remaining on the referendum bonds and as you can recall from a couple meetings ago we'll be coming back next month for a hearing on the issuance of the bonds to cover the athletic site locations and that that amount would be 25 million when we issued that after the september board meeting just for the community mr street when you say private offering what does that mean to us what it amounts to is there's financial institutions that'll come and say we'll take the full amount of your bond issue because normally when you sell it the underwriter buys it and they already have multiple sellers or mult multiple people to invest in it sometimes you have a institution in this case it was webster bank that said we'll take the whole thing and we'll give you this at this rate so it takes any risk we have of not being able to sell some of the bonds and they take that and we end up getting a better rate and move on down the road thank you any other questions for mr shrees regarding our bond sale thank you transfer updates mr trees yes this you gave me permission to do at the end of june and i said i'd report back so you know what the dollar amounts were the net amount of transfer that we did at the end of june was seven million four hundred fifty thousand five forty 548 dollars there's a little asterisk on that that a little over 700 000 of that we received money in the education fund but from a grant by being able to move some salaries over to our grant and we had performing arts instruments we needed to purchase so we transferred those to the operation fund to purchase those so that's what that little asterisk means so we're still under the 15 percent that the state says we should shoot to be under factoring that in we're at 13.78 if you take those out we're at 12 and a half so we're still doing well there and then at the end of the year we'll have another transfer for the last six months of the year questions pertaining to our transfer good job tonight we did get a lot of notes requests for permission to advertise the 2023 budget yes and i apologize you didn't get the packet prior to tonight but with the three board meet three months having one board meeting each trying to compact everything in there we need to present and get permission this evening what i'm asking for is permission to advertise a budget with a tax rate of a dollar 44.

so that's where you might have gotten it it's been kind of postponed because um we're waiting to ensure the dual credit um with the ecc so that we kind of hope on that until then so this slide same as last year nothing changed um we get our funding sources from these three different grants perkins five grant is a federal grant um it's based on the number of students enrolled in each district and then with some poverty numbers the cte grant incentive grant is a state grant that is based on the number of programs being offered within the district and the number of students that complete one or more of those programs and then the cte education career pathway is a state grant that one we were awarded a four-year grant and that was used to expand the educator pathways at d300 and u-46 and then last year we had a continuing education grant and that one was a one year and that one's done so that was the only thing that fell off of here so this is our projected breakdown for the revenues expenditures the budget's balanced in both revenues and expenditures you can see that um perkins five well you'll see it on the next slide that remained flat they gave us no more money in the actual budget and then the ctei had a slight increase and then the perk [Music] the other one had a slight decrease so you can see here we started right now on audited fund balance at 540 000 and then you have your revenues in and out and you're gonna end at that amount a lot of it's the timing of payments since we're cash basis if it's like some of the stuff that was paid in june might hit in july so when i come back with the the final budget i might shift these numbers to more actuals that what happened in july and august to reflect here but then next june and july is going to be in the following year so it's kind of it's going to be similar to this may not be exact so this is the cti grant just kind of show you show you last year's versus this year um this grant stayed flat but if you look at within it the budget numbers kind of changed it all kind of flows into the student enrollment and the poverty level so that's why i like you 46 kind of went up a little bit and then it kind of just shifted throughout all the other buckets so not much change but and then perkins this is our federal one this one went up just a little bit you can see 22 and 23.

is it going to end up at a dollar 44 no we project it to end up just over a dollar one thing that's to our advantage is our assessed valuation went up 15 from last year so that allows for the rate to come down a little bit it doesn't necessarily mean individual taxpayers are going to pay less it's just the rate is less because it all depends on their assessed value in the total of our budget that we're advertising is 249 million as you know the state when they do their work in december they will lower those numbers but we have to advertise high to protect ourselves so i'd be happy to answer any questions anybody has on that and if not i'll ask permission later to advertise the budget and we'll have the hearing on our september meeting and the adoption in october correct questions on the 2023 advertisement of the budget any questions or concerns or comments i just had a question oh sorry go ahead we've been quiet and now we got both talking oh yes um thank you and just for clarification for the public where can they go to access that information after tomorrow on our website there will be a link that they can look at it plus the state has a website we have to supply it to that have the same link and that's the indiana gateway website okay thank you sir that was a little bit more difficult to get to though so yeah yeah it can get buried so yeah so we'll have it available on our website yes it'll be in the budget section of the business department or financial section correct any other questions or comments our teacher appreciation grant policy ms johnson mr president dr smith and members of the board this evening we bring to you the teacher appreciation grant policy the the policy is not being revised it's just being presented for information and that neola requires a date update so that it'll be revised to say niola 2022 but there's not a revision on the policy but the teacher appreciation grant is what awards a fee towards teachers that are highly effective and effective that takes place annually any questions for ms johnson on our tag right thank you thank you neola policy updates second reading dr harshbarger mr mr president members of board dr smith in july at the board meeting i brought forward to you volume 34 number two revision package for first reading tonight i bring that per policy back for second reading happy to answer any questions this time any questions for dr harshbarger second reading of the neoliberal policies thank you dr harshbarter data analytics software bid updates excuse net good evening mr president dr smith members of the board as a reminder recently the district retired the use of decision ed our data warehouse solution and that meant it was time for us to select and implement a new reporting and analytics software solution back in march you gave us permission to send out a rfp for a new data reporting and analytics solution with a comprehensive team comprised of people from curriculum student services human resources exceptional learners technology as well as building level administration we interview the top four vendors later this evening i'll be bringing to you the recommendation to move forward with in zeta as our recommended uh vendor and zeta provides a number of significant benefits including but not limited to an unlimited source data integration and dashboard no custom development requirements a strong public facing dashboard which was an important piece to this and and these benefits will allow our district to develop and implement reporting and dashboard tools efficiently and modify them quickly as needed questions regarding the data and analytics software bid updates i have a question so it's not going to change like the usage of these because i love skyward it is useful um so it's not going to change any of that it's just more of my monitoring and making sure that things are moving slow abs absolutely doesn't change skyward or anything like that it changes decision ed which you may not have used it was something that we use mainly in-house to use our data-driven decisions okay thank you yep any other questions or comments thank you miss puckett our proposed war goals i would like to table this topic when we have our board members in person at our work session with dick being in virtual wendy's not here when he had a couple questions i think it'd do better if we just kind of discussed that and and while we're discussing our board goals we'll also make sure the community understand or hear our conversation around why this is important to us how we hope to achieve those goals and really just make sure they fully understand that they're not they're not just a check in the box but it's something that really set the strategy for us as a district so i like to have that live conversation at the work session okay thank you i'm pleased i'm pleased please to hear that because that gives me time to do a short dissertation about they give us a little bit more not a whole lot of change there and then all of the expenditures will become will be covered by these three grants and then you have um in your packet after this you have let's see so you'll have your actual budget here this one's not a slide so this one goes through um kind of shows you your revenues and expenditures that i've already talked about kind of the flow where it starts it is being flows through all the different the regional vocational and then you got your four schools and then same same numbers just in a different style so you have your education fund these numbers are the same and then and then you have your details so it kind of breaks it out by the guidance supply salary benefits services supplies and then a subtotal so it goes through each grant you have your ctei and then your next page will break down into your perkins and then you'll have the career pathway that's all i got any other questions questions for terry very good terry thank you for your leadership in the program definitely thank you rave assistant yes athletic director just here with the athletics and activities update good evening uh long time listener first time caller i guess in this situation so uh first of all i just want to thank everybody for the uh welcome to the district i know working with chris and a lot of staff there we had day one but the first five weeks officially in about a month plus unofficially been great and uh really really excited the direction things are going so a little bit of an update first and foremost this saturday we have the 301 back to the hill foundation event uh things will kick off around the high school at 10 10 30 with the marching band football kind of leading in all the festivities so bring some excitement in your appetite because it sounds like we got a lot of great food trucks there too so we're looking forward to that in terms of where we are at the high school athletically we had about 425 kids register for fall events we did have to make some reduction reductions in some of the rosters for golf volleyball cheer and dance but that's kind of normal across the board due to ihsa guidelines and then obviously with golf due to course issues but as it stands we got about 37 out for cheer another 52 for boys and girls cross country we got 40 girls dancers 109 football players 20 boys golfers 13 girls golfers 50 girls playing volleyball in about 56 with soccer and you know coming here looking the outside in this is we're going to support three levels of boys soccer which we've kind of been on that cusp so as everybody says we're the smallest we're ever going to be so it's nice to see those numbers come up and have those opportunities for those kids and then we're in the process i know too of uh had a lot of great conversations with a lot of activity sponsors trying to finalize what signals look like and just trying to do a better job of making some of those activities and clubs more visible to public students and and make them aware of all the great opportunities that this district offers so we'll hope to have some more information coming out with that soon and then uh you know outside of that great first official week of fall sports at the high school and you know obviously just with having kids in the building kind of having that cherry on top today so that's been nice so do we have coaches for all the different sports now like are we so our fall coaches are done i know that was kind of a kind of a challenge coming in we had some different things happen but fall were fully staffed across the board with some of the new sports we're offering we're looking to fill some bowling spots uh some lacrosse coaches coming up as well and then we do still have a couple spring sports that we're looking to fill but for right now we got the important ones with the fall season coming up and then we're going to turn our attention to some of those spring and winter sports that are emerging we've always had but still trying to find some quality people same thing on the activity side too there's uh we're still looking at some of those as well trying to fill plug some holes there much like with the activities in clubs as much as you try to get a hold of some of those people who are in those positions over summer you know until they're back in the building is when they really you really get a chance to sit down and talk with them so that's kind of where we're at with that i i have a chance to go to the um the fall sports orientation or whatever for the parents you did a really good job with the setting that tone um uh you know i've been here for a long time uh going to that meeting and um i really liked the way you presented information and um that whole uh like leadership and like representing central and uh i haven't heard that level of presentation before and it was great i liked it thank you appreciate it and just to add to that i heard some from the students that i guess you kind of like go through some of the practices and kind of walk through and that was something else you hadn't just seen before so you're obviously very visual uh or visible i should say and they really like that yeah that bill for that shoulder surgery might i'm just kidding yeah throwing some passes some football kids and walking through volleyball and dance so like i said you know it's the best part of the day is watching those student athletes compete and we're hoping to do the same thing with a lot of those clubs and activities as well and while we've had some ihsa tournaments where students were going to the state tournaments now that we're kind of coming out of that that covet we now have other types of overnight trips coming up correct yeah there's two in particular coming up uh cross country and again i apologize that we got to you kind of late but cross country is hoping to go back to uh del weiler park if you're unfamiliar dentwell park is where they host the ihsa state meet they do a regular meet throughout the year so kids can kind of preview the course they've typically always done it prior to covet hitting that put a pause on a lot of it but uh coach neal vince neil does a great job getting kids down there you know it's it's a business trip but it still allows them to kind of bond and and get that state feel experience for that to kind of chase that goal and and explore that and then uh with the activities that the i apologize across countries in september that'll be september 9th and 10th and then we do have an faa one that's going to be an faa national convention that'll be october 26 through the 29th we'll want to put that on your radar again another great opportunity for faa kids to experience a national convention and then just really represent central high school in the school district at that level i think it's an awesome opportunity good thank you so much thank you appreciate it all right thanks director is here with the update on capital projects i'd like to begin before dan starts to speak just to thank you and your custodians your buildings and ground staff i know everyone's been working so hard over the summer months working on numerous projects to get our buildings ready and they looked great today when when we're out there and welcoming kids back so thank you for your hard work and dedication and that of all of the staff and the buildings and grounds department no we appreciate it our staff's worked hard it's been a every summer is a challenging summer but this one for some reason kind of seemed a little bit different and a little bit tougher a little bit more strenuous but no we appreciate it our staff worked hard to get our buildings where they are so yep we're pleased i thought i had this clarified that i talked before the athletics not afterwards i always got to be after that's right we'll work on that so kind of update where things are at uh prairie knolls and country trails cafeterias the interior parts of those projects are completed 100 kids are in there eating lunch today and enjoying those spaces a couple odds and ends of things in there but those projects went uh very well the exteriors on at country trails is lagging behind we had a few hiccups in the tail end of that project to get it wrapped up so we're probably a couple weeks behind but our contractors are working hard to get that wrapped up we've got it all fenced off if anybody's been out that way you know to make sure it's safe for students and parents to get in and out of there and we're helping direct traffic and everything so it's it'll be good it'll be well worth it when it's done so that's a little lagging behind the uh our building and transportation's building that you approve tonight's gonna start probably in september uh will break ground with intents of getting that under roof over the winter um so that'll be a winter project that's why we got a lot of bidders a lot of contractors are interested in getting some work on the books for this winter so that worked out well so that'll start soon and then on the docket we still have the elementary building generator project that we've been working on so those generators will be ordered here shortly and there's still a long lead time item but probably next month we'll bring and be bringing to the board approval for the electrical work for that so that'll be work we'll do on days off over the winter and spring break trying to get our contractor in to get all the infrastructure in place so as soon as that equipment arrives we can just place those generators and tie them in and we'll be ready to roll um so those are the couple of things still on the docket to wrap up the year questions parking lot expansion that's all over you've finished all that parking lot yeah like uh yep prairie views yep yep that that one's completed yeah yeah and ct that's the one that's still in in the works yep yep yep and our staff's looking forward to next saturday we'll be out in full force yeah this coming saturday this back to the little event yes it's the next saturday to us we're here a lot of saturdays yeah from the animals any questions about anything we're good thank you all right let's go on to ap music theory textbooks adoption good evening um so we have a new textbook that's coming in for our advanced uh ap music theory course this is a new course that's being offered at the high school the course has already been approved but we need the approval specific to the textbook that goes along with it so the one that's being presented is the one that aligns with ap college board recommendations for the material that's being taught uh again this focus is on an ap level class so it is focused on let me see your book sorry secret thank you just i was just waiting for just uh i know i believe that all of you know stephen books but stephen brooks is our director of curriculum instruction 612.

so let's just jump right in go ahead you're excited you're excited about ap he's excited about amy yeah music theory i like this so uh on the ap side of it um textbooks is chosen because right this class is aligned for college level so it is focused on your music majors and or music minors uh at that context in that level uh going into you know techniques uh presented for uh you know skill development in terms of sight reading uh the music minors of uh scales all the different kind of minut things that are behind the scenes and so this in a complimentary set of other resources will support our students in a strong way in our ap music theory course any questions about the text itself or like is this in conjunction with like band because obviously it's like or is it so some of our students who are contemplating maybe going down that pathway of going music whether that be teaching performing those types of things now we have an option where students can go to that next level beyond our specific performance-based only kind of curriculum now they're going to be able to dive into some of those enhancements on the kind of study side of what's behind all that we already do some obviously competitions where kids last year were very successful in the composing and that side of it but this is going to enhance their knowledge base of music across the board that way maybe a student who is a specific instrument or it could be also coral right so vocal they're able to work on some of those things because the the tonal practice that is enhanced within this curriculum really focuses on that experience so that they go to the next level of understanding and some of those ensembles and groups and those types of things can be understood at a higher level very thorough yeah any other questions i i gotta thank jordan and jim obviously they do a fantastic job at the high school and they put a lot of research into which book you know based off the list that was there that would meet the needs of our students so they provide a lot of context for me to be able to share here tonight very good thank you very much thank you next we'll move on to an overnight cross-country trip so this is the um trip that vince neil would take the cross-country team on traditionally were run against um other high performing schools and it's actually on on the course that they run the state meet on so we apologize about bringing this to the board uh late because the trip is september 10th and we'll bring it back for action in september so unless there's any reason why the board would not approve it we'll just move forward with that at the ffa convention trip the ffa convention trip occurs in late october and um something that i know our students are very excited about where they get to participate in the national convention and we we traditionally do very well all right let's move on to foia we received the foia from smart procure um it's commercial foia it's one that we received quarterly and we were able to just uh we were able to respond very quickly to it all right that concludes our open session portion of the meeting thanks again for coming out uh we need a motion second to adjourn into executive session yes take a little break be back

before that time he served neighboring districts as an assistant principal english teacher and coach according to dr smith i'm proud of mr white's leadership and commitment to the lawrence township these past seven years i'm confident in his ability to transition into this new leadership role while maintaining the excellence that our students and families deserve and expect mr white shares that lawrence township is a wonderful community and he's proud to lead such an integral division and look forward to serving students and families in this new role a fort wayne native white earned his bachelor's degree in secondary education at indiana university bloomington in 1997 he holds a master's degree in education and principal licensure through indiana westland 2007 and is a doctoral student at ball state university congratulations mr white [Applause] i will okay thank you very much mr president i'm getting this down mr president dr smith members of the board thank you for this opportunity i would like to introduce a few folks that i brought with me first of all my lovely wife elizabeth she puts up with me and my parents uh i'm gonna introduce mom first jettison please give her a hand please and my dad who you may know dr eugene white i'm a man of few words so i'm not going to speak very long but i just appreciate this opportunity and uh you know we're going to take transportation to where it needs to go thank you congratulations congratulations okay mr president if i can add in uh before we tradition is is that when we make these announcements internally i visit the school or the division to let the staff know what we're doing and on friday roger smith joined me to a rock concert at transportation we had a packed house matt and reggie and it was a beautiful atmosphere rooting both of you on over 200 plus people that were at that meeting and uh obviously celebrating the boss there mr miles but also this chance started to roar reggie reggie reggie so mr white you're well on your way okay it's a beautiful thing and i i share that with the board on friday i've done a lot of these but this one was really special so congratulations both of you thank you [Applause] on behalf of the board we are actually fortunate and blessed to have the talent in this district we thank you for accepting these appointments we look forward to hearing good things from you and thank you families for lending them to us they are enrolled they do serve some long hours but we embrace them and we also remind them the importance of families so thank you and i cannot say thank you dr eugene white a legendary in his own right thank you for being here with us as well tonight sir thank you or comment miss amy well congratulations again to mr miles and mr white um on that note i have a kudos to mr white on his excellent customer service the first day of school we had a busing question and my husband called and he said a nice man named reggie white helped him greatly and walked him through the process for our daughter's busing so excellent customer service we're in great hands with both of you to go along with that too i was flipping through radio stations the other day and i think it was 106.7 had an advertisement for the msd of lawrence township to join the staff here and so it was it was really nice to hear that on the radio and also see it in other outlets but one of the things that i've done with my sales and marketing background is i feel like i should recruit too so i feel that whenever we know somebody who's talented in our families or our communities spread the word absolutely and finally thank you for a good start to school everyone thank you miss norman mr freezey so um just uh sorry i didn't be uh remote today for the meetings particularly not getting a chance to congratulate mr miles and mr white in person but here's my virtual uh congratulations to you and look forward to seeing you at future meetings and in and around the township thank you sir my turn um yes did i what everybody said congratulations gentlemen thank you so much and i want to add too that there is an app called my stop that parents can download and it's been an amazing tool that literally tell you tells you step by step where your bus is to help so it has been an amazing tool for us so yes my stop it's been helpful and i do want to ask this this was a concern not a concern but are the applications for free and reduced lunch still open and i ask that because with the prices of gas raising and a food the typical cost for breakfast and lunch weekly would be about what nine dollars a week for a student i know we have a family of three so it can a couple hundred dollars a month can add up easily so i just wanted to ask if the applications for that were open and those for the families that may not qualify for that are there any other resources that families can look into and i will say this too i was happy to hear um i have a child that is a complete care bear and she let me know that there were some concerns for kids that may not have she was observing some things within the lunch line and she said that the lunch people she said treated everybody kindly um and so i want to say thank you for that but her concern was just making sure that everybody has a baby alas mr roger smith is our chief of operations you oversee those areas would you speak to that on behalf of the board and i [Music] it is still open i believe october 1.
