Director Konopellski >> present. >> Director Bieber and Director Penny Packer >> here. >> Thank you. All right. And now I'll have

some introductions of staff. So that was Mr. Bishop, our business manager. We have Georgie Fischer, our HR director, Dr. Fina, our assistant superintendent, Kyle Summers, our esteemed council, Dr. Roach, and I think that's everybody. All right. Um, we'll move on to board president's report. Uh, just a couple quick things. Um, a plug for Saturday's holiday bazaar. Let's all hope for good weather. Uh, at the middle school, I believe it's 9:00 to 3:00 and hopefully I see a bunch of board members working. I know I'll be there. um got a chance to attend the National Honor Society ceremony a couple weeks ago and that was really fun and uh that was I guess that was probably my eighth one. So hopefully we'll have four more. And I did get to have a business tour at my

company uh through the perk up program which was a lot of fun and I'll turn it over to Dr. Roach for a superintendent report. All right. Thank you very much. I can back up some of what you said there with some >> some photos. Yes. No, not really. Uh just some updates here. So, um here we are post Thanksgiving and we have that interesting time between uh the Thanksgiving and the winter break. So, looking forward to but sharing some highlights as we go through. So, uh, Mrs. Janowski would say it's a little bit late, but, um, here is the, uh, 2425 annual report. So, that'll be available on our website, and, uh, if you were to click through here to get to the website, we would see a lot of the faces of the people

that are probably in this room. Um, this is interactive, so you can get a chance to see, um, not me, see, uh, kids in action. things. Again, this is focused on on last year and compiling all the information, our students and ethnicity uh and the directors from last year, class of 2025, their overview, information specifically on the class, the Western Center and the information and highlights that are going on uh at the Western Center from our students staff highlights. This kind of reviews our overall teaching staff members, highest degree available, retention rates, those things that highlight our staff. Some other highlights. So, you'll see pictures with numbers there that correspond to some of the highlights that are going on throughout the course uh of the school year. And then community highlights, the bonfire, Special Olympics,

Open Lane, community conversations, and the Arts Fest. I thought I thought we were getting rid of the Rodney picture. Anyway, just kidding. Just kidding. Uh, school safety and and highlights that are um that are included in things that are taking place here across the district and we continue budget and finance, information on revenue and budget, >> but not the step ratio. >> We did not put the step ratio in there. That would need its own book. >> Yes. Comprehensive plan updates. There's a QR code to take you to the plan and the induction plan which and we we know we did a tremendous amount of work last year with lots of stakeholder groups setting the stage for the next couple years. And then uh there's a picture from Marborl from the National Blue Ribbon and

our our revised mission and vision. So that information will be available on the website uh for everyone and uh very proud of the work that's done out of Mr. Chenowsky's office but everyone that contributed to that um annual report. Couple other highlights here. the uh middle school turkey trot. Um students during their perk uh perk period came out and uh participated um in this annual trot was raising the amount of food. Wait to see the pictures of the food that was raised for our community. But this seems to be an annual event that um that the middle school has been highlighting. So we appreciate that. And they really they they're out there. It was a little bit cold that day if I remember properly, but they had a they had a fun time. Uh and

then just recently the middle school career day. Tim Mesa, pitcher that just most recently pitched with the Phillies. Uh he was the keynote speaker and he actually stayed with a relationship with that he has with some teachers stayed he talked to all three grades not just in the uh the eighth grade on this day. Um that was the highlight. He went over his career and ups and downs and I think the kids obviously um just by saying the Phillies and having his picture up there and being drafted by the Blue Jays and playing for the Yankees and the Pirates that they were just in awe right away. But he had a really nice message. He's like, I live my parents still live on Buck Road and everybody knew what was going on. So, he was

he had a nice way about him and the kids really appreciated it. Um, plus he had some giveaways. So, once the kids realize that if you ask a question, you may get a giveaway. The hands were up like crazy. So, um, he he knew what what was going on there. So, that was great. And then the career day in general. So, yeah, we have um over 40 I'm trying to look at Mrs. Dr. Haney overif over 80 people that were there with their careers and uh and sharing and the kids had a great time and uh really good questions. So we appreciated the effort there and it's been a great staple activity for those students. Here's our high school a choir. I believe they were the opening night performance two songs at the at the

Rockett um on in in New York to kick off the first and they sang for over 7,000 uh people that were sitting there waiting for the Rockets and they got the upper perk a choir. So a fantastic opportunity experience for our students and we appreciate Dr. Thomas and all his work and all the teachers all the way through getting our students ready for that type of performance. As I said all the food that was collected um this is just um some of the schools and the coats on the bottom thereford and um so again a lot of giving back around the holidays there and uh we also know that with the way the budget was coming there was a lot more need in in our general area. So, I think our our schools and and

families really stepped up tremendously. We had a career mentorship. You actually will see a picture of Melanie in there. Uh, yep. So, that's proof that that uh they were there. Yep. And, uh, in the upper upper left there, that's um, Perk um, Upper Perk Police Department. I was there with those students there. They were not awake yet, but they uh, it was they were actually that's the show and tell part. They're holding these different things which is pretty neat. But again, the businesses in our area com combined with Perkup and uh really opened the doors for this year our freshman to get out and um the students that I was involved with. We went to Upper Park Police as well as Marorrow Police and uh it was a really good experience um for for the

students to sit in the police cars and and you know get to hear straight from the cops what what what they do and how they do it and their shift work and all that kind of stuff. great experiences all around and our community does a fantastic job opening our doors and supporting our students. We're looking for that relationship to continue. There you go. Supporting the information you shared about the holiday bazaar on the 6th from 9:00 to 3 at the middle school. And uh the the Ed Foundation also has an upcoming alumni event on the 10th 4:30 to 6:30. A holiday meetup at the high school in the lobby there. Um complimentary hot chocolate that may get some people there. You're a big hot chocolate fan. Yeah, I know. >> And then the XLAB tour

and then the Uptones will actually do a performance. So, right from from uh Broadway or New York City to right here in the lobby at the high school. So, if you want to bring a canned food uh a canned uh good for the open link, that would be much appreciated. But any alumni um are welcome to participate. Continue to support that. Uh next week um or two weeks next week, yeah, Christ transportation for the community conversations. So, all are welcome. um anyone from 11 to 12 on that if they have any interest to join us over at first of all Christ they'll give you a great tour of the facility there. Uh one time they actually let me drive a bus around the parking lot which was crazy on their part but it was a

good experience to uh to talk to people there and and really you know have a good conversation and then ironically with the weather this was already in my presentation much much before that just wanted to review the closing and delay information. I know B Boyertown already called a two-hour. I know. And I just got a text that uh Pottstown's calling a two-hour. I guess they called the two-hour so they have a little more time. A lot of the other superintendents right now in the text group are saying they're going to wait till the morning. All that kind of stuff. We'll take a look at it after this meeting. Uh it does not look good on timing wise for for the weather. It's just looks like it's going to be um a lot of muck there

uh in the morning. So um the teachers that are here are already eyeballing. I know Phil's like, "Yeah, look." Yeah. Yeah. Let's let's make let's make the call right now. Make the call. Right. Yeah. I know. Everyone wants to know, but we try to we try to make sure that we're uh we're taking a look at the um the uh information that's coming. But anyway, our options are traditional snow day, emergency day. Uh that's still on the table. I know there's other districts that have gotten rid of those. We haven't. Those are there. This would be a day we would have to make up, but we would say just go enjoy be a kid. Uh and there's too much snow out there to do that. We tried not to use them for, you know, nuisance

days type of thing. But they're still in the they're still there. They're still built into the calendar. So, uh, the good thing is if you don't use them, then you kind of look like you get out three days earlier, and everyone appreciates that at that time. So, we'll see. Uh, this storm does not look like it's going to be one of these days. Um, but, you know, in the event of a of a major power outage, something like that, that would be something this could get intermixed as well. And then we have a flexible instructional day, the FID day. So, that's where we have applied for and have up to five of these days throughout the course. We have a process in place where work is posted by a certain period of time. teachers have

office hours are available via Zoom and and to to follow up and the work is due by the end of the day and um you know these this helps us to keep the calendar moving forward and there there is instruction that gets done. I know messages went out. I sent something to the administration always saying be ready for anything so that whenever the call has to be made we know that it's that that they're ready. I'm pretty sure messages went home or um Chromebooks went home and passwords and all that kind of stuff in the event. I'm sure there's there's people wearing their PJs inside out tonight trying to get something whether it's a full snow day or or a fid day, but um these are the two options that we have available. These really

helped to move forward. Um but we do have a group that that will be on a group chat. There's a group of us here that communicate uh internally as well as with uh Mrs. Malone and transportation. They they drive a lot of the conversation and Herford really drives the Herford Hills in that area drives a lot of the conversation. So, I remember making a call one time and people in um in Green Lane were in shorts and a t-shirt. I'm like, you have to go to Herford. I mean, the that's where the buses go and we have to be mindful of that. This one coming in from 5 to 7 to 9 to 10 doesn't it's a tough call. So, or it may not be, but um we'll see how that shakes out. But the

these slides were already in here to share and typically in December that the options that that we have available to us as well as the delays or the early dismissals, which we don't like to do um you know, when the snow's coming and we're already here type of thing. But um so those are the options and we'll hopefully take a look after the meeting here or maybe in the morning. We'll see. I know everyone wants to know sooner than later. And then finally uh we're ready to officially kick off the uh the innovation fair preserving today planning for tomorrow. It's been talked about and joked about for a while. The information is now on the website. So there'll be a full full push coming in the in the month of December to to uh to

invite staff. I have an email ready to go to to some teachers. I've talked to a couple teachers. I think one's actually here to uh to get into the uh into their classrooms to invite students to participate. I know the board uh is looking forward to participating including the two that just left. We're holding them that to that that commitment. I think the administrators I believe were volunteering to be a part of that conversation as well. So, this is an opportunity for people in the community, everyone that's here tonight is welcome to to attend as well as welcome to put in a board or some or you know plant some ideas of how we can um become more efficient, saving cost savings, revenue generating different ideas. We know there's ideas out there because sometimes you

see them on social media, you see them over here. We should be doing this, we should be doing that. Well, we're asking for people to bring the ideas forward and present them on um in February um in the kind of an old school science fair walkound whether they're boards or whether they're on laptops u sharing information um uh just to kind of generate some ideas. We're not guaranteeing that we're able to do all of them but definitely generating some ideas uh across the district and and hopefully the the community. So hopefully later this week um the town and country will publish uh my letter to the editor which really rolls this out and invites the entire community in that same option. So let me take you to the website real quick. There will be a

popup when you go to the website tomorrow morning to look for snow days. There'll be this pop-up will pop up uh and it'll talk a little bit about this information and then it'll drive you right into the website here to explain a little deeper. So again, I appreciate Mr. Janowski helping and assisting with getting this prepared. It talks about it. It talks about days. Here's how you can register. Here's when signups begin today. Um, there's when we're going to close out signups so we can get prepared for the day itself. We're going to host it at the middle school if there is enough interest. We'll also do tours of the middle school in the evening for anyone that hasn't been through the middle school yet because I know that's always topic conversation. So, you can

learn more here about what is what is kind of a science fair, what's the problem, proposed solution, impact. I know Mr. Bishop was looking forward to people calling him saying, "Hey, what's his numbers and what's this budget and what's that type of thing?" But really, it's about it's about us coming together as a community to try to help um the budget challenges that some of us have and just get better uh um more efficient. Maybe there's some ideas that are not out there. So, you can see the information who can present anyone, students. I'm hoping to to connect with students, staff, teachers, um family organizations, and community partners. So, this is the information that's available. Again, this a little disclaimer here. This is a starting point. We're hoping to take those ideas and bring them

forward um and then continue to move from there that we could we could have ideas for for years here. Who knows? So, that's the idea of this kickoff here officially here in December. Um and it's on the website and we'll begin to publicize that a lot more. And I think that's it. So, hope to get a lot of people to participate. >> Thank you. All right. Uh, our student representatives are not here this evening. Uh, so I will move on to our solicitor's report and Sunshine Act announcements. Mr. Summers. >> Thank you, Madam President. My report tonight is just to announce that there are two uh public comment opportunities at tonight's meeting. The first opportunity is to speak on any item that is being voted upon tonight on the agenda. Um, and then there's another

comment opportunity at the end of the meeting for any other matters of concern that are or may come before the board. There is a three minute per person speaking limit. Um, and if anyone who does wish to speak needs to, as was mentioned earlier, um, fill out a signup sheet. Those are available on the back of the room and just need to be turned in into the box that's located next to the screen prior to the comment period. Um, and as a reminder, uh, comments that are provided are the are those of the speakers alone and do not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of the district or the board of school directors. And that concludes my report. Thank you. All right, we'll move on. We don't have any presentations or discussion this evening and

so we'll move to public comments on action items. And I don't believe I saw anyone come up and put anything in there. So we will move on to the approval of the agenda. >> Motion. >> Second. >> Any discussion hearing? Uh no discussion. All in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? Okay. Agenda approved. Uh, next I'd look for an approval for the November 13th regular school board meeting minutes. >> Motion >> second. >> Any discussion? Hearing none. All in favor? I. Any oppose? All right. I don't have anything under old business. So, we'll move on to new business. >> Madam President, can I make a motion to approve personnel report in its entirety? That's the resignations, the appointments, and leaves of absence. >> You may. Do I have a second? >> Second. All right. Any

discussion? Hearing none. All in favor? I. Any opposed? Okay. We'll move on to action items. >> Madam motion, can I make a motion to approve item A, the 2026 schoolboard meetings and workshop dates? >> Do I have a second? Second. Okay. Any discussion? Hearing none. All in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? Okay. Move on to letter B. Madam Mo, Madame President, since we um need a representative for to be appointed to this for this vote, I would nominate Paige Connusky for filling position down at Western Center. >> A second. Okay. Any discussion? >> Are there any other uh nominations? >> Oh, thank you. >> No hearing. Executive conduct. >> Okay. Hearing no other nominations. Uh so we just have PH Kapowski and so we'll take a a vote for that. Any all in favor?

>> I. >> Any oppose? Okay. Thanks, Paige. >> Now, we have a representative to appoint. Can we um do the appointment for the Western Center for the three-year term to expire in 2028? >> Do I have a second? >> Second. Thank you. Uh any other discussion? Hearing none. All in favor? >> I. Any oppose? Okay. And thank you, Paige. >> Thank you. Congratulations. >> All right. >> You'll like it there. Very cool. >> All right. We'll move on to letter C. >> Madam President, can I make a motion to item C? The motion to notify Burks in IU um that we will not be renewing the contract for the tax software. D. Um between this meeting and the next meeting of the board scheduled for January 8th, the board of directors authorizes the superintendent take

action on behalf of in the name of the district for the following purposes. hiring teachers pay district bills and the over E the overnight excursions. >> Could we take E separately? >> Sure. >> Okay. C and D. >> Second. >> Hold on one second. I thought the was the request to take D separately? >> E. E. I'm sorry. Okay. Thank you. >> Okay. So, we have a motion and a second on letters C and D. Any discussion? Hearing none. All in favor? I. >> I. >> Any oppose? Okay. Motions carry. So we move on to E. Overnight excursions. >> Motion to approve the overnight excursions for the boys wrestling team and the high school girls wrestling team. Two separate trips. >> Yes. >> Okay. Second >> discussion. >> Do we have any discussion? >> Yeah,

these are coming to us late. Um, you know, the boys wrestling is next week, girls a little bit later, but you know, I schedules are made well in advance, athletic schedules, and I think we need to get these requests earlier. Also, do we have a protocol for overnight trips? And do we have protocol for outofstate trips? And by protocol I mean how many kids in a room are kids sharing beds? I how many chap you know how many coaches per kids? Um you know what does that all look like? >> Go ahead Dr. Fina. Thank you. So by protocol we have a policy 121 and 121 does have an AR associated with um it's overnight excursions. Um I would say uh typically what you see in the form of the attachment is what the chaperon

or the coach completes. Um the AR does have a 90day in advance requirement. Um it has a adult to student ratio. Uh I do think it's a little different athletically but yes to answer your question um details related to travel expenses hotel um parents are to be informed about any you know what the hours that kids might be asleep. As for room assignments there's nothing specific in the AR related to that. Uh, so I will say yes, I I mean it I got it last Monday. So, um, but I do know sometimes competitions are not predicted. You have to to make them and so we may not be able to always hit the 90-day. But if it if this is an event that is scheduled annually, yes, typically we would ask for it to be

submitted 90 days in advance of the of the overnight excursion. >> Boys went to Penn Manor last year. >> That seems to be a repeated tournament. Looks like the girls out of state tournaments new obviously. And I will say um the AR doesn't differentiate between in or out of state with the exception of there are questions if it is using a travel agent because it's distant or you might be flying. The the policy and the AR do have very specific guidelines associated with them. >> But as far as getting notice of this earlier, you know, we we went to Pan Manor last year and I think the year before. So that's it. >> The last time we had the conversation to hear about and it was very late coming over um that message in I

believe it was November, early November to the athletic director was that this that we needed to improve on that piece and he contacted the coaches. These did not come in until 11:20 and 11:24 from the coach to the school. It did not come to Dr. Finn and I until 11:24 and 11:20 11:25. So this was the earliest meeting to possibly put it in there as well as sharing the information with the board last week. So the message from the last meeting from the board about getting these sooner was conveyed directly and that information was sent to the athletic director as well as he sent it on to the coaches to get them in ASAP as the information is on the calendar. It is part of the schedule. It's not one of the ones that was

just described. That message was sent and this is when they came in. So the other option for us to do would be would be to say you've not met the requirement. Therefore, we're not going because the information wasn't wasn't shared. But the message that left this table last time was directly and expressly shared through to the athletic director and then back to the coaches to get these in ASAP, if not sooner. This is when they came in. We did not see them, Dr. Fnai, until the 24th and 25th, respectively. I kind of agree with Miss Penny Packer bringing this up. You know, I remember that happening last year and actually when I was reading these requests this past week, I was kind of disappointed that we did not get it earlier because we had mentioned

it. if you could reiterate to the athletic director again and make sure he reiterates it to the coaches that, you know, we don't want to make lastm minute decisions because actually when I was looking at some of the information, some of the information isn't there and, you know, I'm not going to go chasing it down, but I know that you are following up on it, you know, as needed to make sure that our kids are going in in a safe manner and they'll be well cared for. I have no doubt about that. But even if they could provide us with a list of various competitions that they might be interested in going throughout the year because you know that they're they're published out there just like our game schedules. You know, we shouldn't have to

get it 3 weeks before. So, >> and and when do other groups submit their requests? You know, the band goes on band trips, their overnight trips, like how far in advance do they know? I I just I don't know. Do you want me to answer that question? Uh, Dr. Thomas provides me every May all of his field trip requests for the whole year coming. So, it's like clockwork. >> Maybe we need to have them do a timed course for some people. >> Yeah. There you go. >> Yeah. And yet, on the other hand, you don't want the kids to miss out on doing these fun things that they should be doing. >> Well, yeah. And when stuff like this happens, I'm just going to say it. I feel like we get held hostage because we

can't say no. So, I'm just asking for some timing. And, you know, I know how schedules work in athletics. I kind of did that for a couple years.
