001Okay, board members, if you're having difficulty accessing the agenda, you'll either have to log out and view it as a member of the public and not have access to executive content or print to the PDF within In the board version, there's an issue with board docs. Do you want to begin? Okay, we'll start with roll call. Mr. Antonio, >> Mr. Badger, >> Mr. Golson >> here, >> Miss Keranikis >> here. >> Mr. Kelly >> here. >> Dr. Morris >> here. >> Mr. Strauss >> here. >> Mr. Walker >> here. >> Mrs. Ginsburg >> here. Reed Harris >> here. >> All right. Thank you. All right. Let me Sorry, it's a different screen to look at. All right. We'll now do our pledge of allegiance. And I did have some helpers. We're going to come up

002from lower pointed Thank you for your help and uh welcome everyone to our first meeting here of April. And um taking a look at our agenda, you'll see our prior meetings listed out and then our upcoming meetings. I typically would read them, but unfortunately uh the version of the agenda I am looking at does not have them. Um, so we'll jump right in then to our presentation this evening which is uh Lorwinit Elementary and I'd like to welcome our uh uh new principal uh Dr. C. I heard you're going by. >> Yes. Good evening. I am Misha Kito, the new principal at Lower Gwyned, and I am very pleased to be here with uh Miss Germa and Miss Leighton and our fifth fifth grade reporters. Just making sure they're all in fifth grade. Our student

003reporters who are doing a wonderful job and I believe they helped with my video today as well a little bit. Were some of you in it? Yes. So, it was great. So, now I'm going to turn it over to Miss Leightton. >> All right. Good evening. Uh, my name is Tori Leighton and this is Erica Gama. And here are some of our awesome, awesome fifth grade students from Lower Gwenn. And we are excited to share with you about the Leopard Spot. The Leopard Spot is a student-ledd news team open to all fifth graders at Lower Glended Elementary. Students apply, complete a video audition, and commit to giving up recess three days during our encore cycle to participate. So students actually work independently or in small groups to write their own news stories which are then

004submitted for editing and approval. And while the segment topics are usually selected by us to ensure some sort of consistency and relevance, the students really have ownership over their writing and the collaboration and delivery of their segments. Students also love going on Canva to create their backgrounds um that are used for their segments. And here is a real live sample breaking news story about our um breakfast with a buddy at lowered. Um we did not serve waffles but >> we it was very creative nonetheless. So student created content right there. So throughout the process um students build strong communication skills. They learn to collaborate with their peers. They manage their time um which can definitely be a little tricky in the timeline that we have. They accept feedback and present themselves confidently to an authentic

005audience which is really you know our school, our families, teachers. So, it's very very exciting >> and the most important thing is that the leopard spot gives all of these students plus 13 others, believe it or not, we have 23 this year. It gives them a voice and a sense of pride in contributing to our school community in a very meaningful way. So, we have our Leopard Spot studio set up in our lower Gwenned music classroom. Our generous HSA purchased a video camera, microphones, a green screen, a lighting kit, and a teleprompter, which have all been put to excellent use by our news team. They're invaluable. The teleprompter is actually something that we've been able to use this year um that has been such a gamecher for us. So, Mrs. Leighton is the queen of

006Microsoft Teams. She is the person who is assigning the stories and they're all being submitted to her. She's approving them. Um, and then I come in with all of the filming. So, we wanted to put together a little presentation tonight, a little taste of how our program works. And we have a special behind the scenes episode for you this evening that was actually filmed back in January, but we were snowed out. So, um, we hope you enjoy it. Do I need to press this off or anything? >> Reporting from the LGI studio, it's the Leopard Spot. >> Hello, my name is Owen >> and I'm Connor. We are both members of the Lower Gwen newscast, the Leopard Spot. We are honored to be able to share about our program and we wanted to give you

007a behindthescenes tour of how the Leopard Spot works. As Miss Leighton mentioned, we are here because we want to be. Sometimes we actually want to be here more than we can be. We sometimes forget that our adviserss, Miss Kyama and Miss Leighton, have classes to teach, other work to do, etc. Yes. And while we technically meet during our recess on encors days 3, 7, and 11, we often come at other times to film our segments or just say hi. right now. >> All right, everybody needs to go to lunch. It's lunch time. Go eat. >> For the most part, we are in charge of writing our own stories. For each episode, we are given all of the story assignments and volunteer for one. >> Let's take a look at some assignments. First, we have our

008two anchors who begin each episode. >> What's sleeping, LG? My name is Olivia. >> And my name is Abby. On this episode, we are excited to be sharing our newscast with our board of educations and what's taking community at large. >> From here, we usually leap into our LEAP updates. Get it? Leap into LEAP. >> Yes, nice one. >> LEAP is our lower Gwen PBS acronym. L lead by example. >> E, expect respect. >> A, act responsibly. >> P, play and work safely. >> This segment requires working closely with our vice principal, Mrs. Espinosa, who always lets us know what topics our school might benefit from reviewing. If we have a school event, you'll hear about it on the leopard spot. While we share about very special cultural celebrations such as Hanukkah, Luna New Year,

009we also support on fun holidays such as >> International Sweatpants Day. >> This holiday started around 2010 in Graz, Australia. This holiday was inspired by the kids who wore sweatpants to school, becoming a fun, unofficial holiday to celebrate comfort. You can celebrate this day by eating pickles. Maybe we should get some pickles. Now, >> the next one holiday is National Brownie Day on December 8th. And yes, it is exactly what it sounds like. This holiday was organized by all the pizza lovers that don't like anchovies on their pizzas. >> An important segment is called Staff Spotlight where we highlight various members of our staff. This year we've interviewed Miss Brenda for from the cafeteria, Miss Brooks from the office, Mr. Jackson and Mr. Rossi, our PE teachers, Miss Kopaka, our acting principal, Mr. Rashan, bus

010driver 130, who not only drives Whissa Hicken, but is a volunteer firefighter that saved lives back in December. >> We have a new opinion poll each every episode, too. One of our recent ones, hot cocoa versus s'mores. >> Flowers is a way to share some pretty sophisticated vocabulary with our school community. Mrs. Leighton provides us with a script, but we definitely need to spend time practicing these words. >> What's a word that begins with the letter C and means very polite? Cordal. Cordal. Cordial. Cord. Cordial. Cordial. Uh, cordial. >> Wait, sorry. >> Like a days ago. >> We also have a leopard kindness challenge. Each episode, our news reporters challenge our audience members to do something kind. For our newly released episode 5, our reporters had not one, not two, three, or even four challenges,

011but five. >> Whiz Nation, do you think you can accept these challenges? Option one, high five at five people. Hold the door for two people is option two. Comp compliment at least three people. A fourth option tells someone to have a good day. And finally, smile at someone every day. >> Our episodes end with our anchorers closing things out with a nice final message and our catchphrase. It goes a little something like this. We hope you've enjoy enjoyed learning about the leopard spot. On behalf of the entire lowered news team, we'd like to thank you for having us tonight. >> From our spots to yours, >> keep learning, keep leading, and keep weaving out. Oh my god, that was awesome. So, I have to say, Miss Gama, I saw that setup in your classroom when

012I came for ReadAcross America and I just like popped into your classroom myself and I thought it was for when you do like your music videos. You always make these amazing like music videos. So, I thought you got like the green screen to do music videos, but this is so awesome. Now, I know what you use it for. >> It's a little bit of everything. So, multi-use. Um, so I have questions for the kids. Um, what made you decide to I guess I should back up like how did you um get chosen to do this? >> Yeah, I know. >> Well, what we did was um uh this this is >> um so yeah. Yeah, we made videos about like a special holiday that we wanted to have more people to know about. And uh

013I did National Video Games Day and >> Yeah. >> And then uh if our thing was good, uh Mrs. Yama accepted us to the leopard spot. >> Yes. And what made some of you like interested in applying for this role? >> Oh, um I was just interested because um I like wanted to feel more involved in school. >> I kind of wanted to be famous. There we go. >> I just wanted to I just Oh, I just wanted to join so I can spread news to the whole school. I want to I wanted to spread information throughout our whole entire school. >> I watched the um like when I was in fourth grade, I watched the other fifth grade doing it and I had fun watching it and I wanted to join. >> Um same

014with Ellie and but als but also I kind of hated recess in fourth grade. like like I also liked watching fifth grade like when I was in fourth grade like do the news team. So it it like actually seemed fun. So like I decided to join and like spread the news along with the other answers they given along with saying the previous one. But I also was excited to make Canva backgrounds my own story and get to like learn about all these new things I didn't know before. And do you take turns being the like anchor and taking on different like special stories or do you all have like special roles on the on the news team? want to start. >> So, um yeah, we all take turns with like the different roles. Although some

015people really like keeping the same role all the time. That's mighty. >> And some people like keeping the same partner all the time. >> That might be me. >> And how do you guys come up with your stories? Do you collaborate like work together? Do you have meetings for that? >> Well, we sometimes have meetings and usually we work during them, but if we have a partner, we usually only work with them. But when we turn our story in, Miss Leighton and Miss Gama can like look over it and make improvements. >> Awesome. Well, who else on the board has questions? Dian, >> I was going to ask, what's your favorite part about being on the news team? And is it hard to give up recess? Because this is your last year for recess. Sorry.

016>> It's not that hard to give up recess. I think it's kind of a fun new opportunity that we got this year cuz he asked me >> cuz I have Connor. >> Your What's your favorite part about it? My favorite part is that I get to do cool share cool holidays, interview people and just share news with the school and just do it with different kinds of people that I didn't know before or like haven't been like talking to them kind of like Maddie said, but like I like collaborating with others and like exploring new topics. I like doing stuff with like other people and showing people like what I like to do with like but still like I don't really know. I just like new steam because I do because it's fun. Same. I

017like to have fun and like I like to write the stories and get to share like new topics with the whole school. Um, same. Cuz I really like it. Like it's just good, but also like we don't like have like a pre-written script, so like we're not going to say something we hate. >> Um, like it's like really fun and like like it's fun to make like write our own stories and make Canva backgrounds and Yeah. I think I'm going to go with my favorite part being just the behind the scenes in general and being able to see like how it works, the teleprompter, green screen and all of that and not just having to watch it like digitally. >> Did you want to answer, Bren, because I didn't even get a chance to. So,

018I really like sharing my opinions with the other people in the school and I um Oh, yeah. I uh I forget it. It doesn't matter. But yeah, giving up recess can be hard sometimes, especially now that we don't have it next year. >> Oh, I didn't think about it. >> Other board questions or comments? >> Dr. Dwan, >> just a quick maybe poll question for the room. One of the prompts was hot chocolate or s'mores, and I'm sitting on the edge of my seat. I'm so curious which one. S'mores. Oh, >> s'mores. >> I don't know. >> Okay. And could we do maybe a poll in the room? Some audience engagement. Raise your hand. Everyone in the room. Who's for hot chocolate versus s'mores? Who's for hot chocolate? Hands up. >> And who's for s'mores?

019Oh, I think the s'mores win in this room, too. Great job. Thank you so much. Other questions? Sephy, >> not a question. I just wanted to thank you all for coming in and sharing this creativity with us. You guys are rock stars and famous. You're WIS famous for sure. Thank you for sharing. This was amazing. >> Yeah, my my kids were involved in this last year and they loved it. But it looks like you stepped up your game and you have a space which is amazing. So, thank you Mrs. Gama and Mrs. Leighton for continuing to do this. It looks like it's a great experience for these kids as well. And thank you kids for being here. Really appreciate it. >> And has this inspired any of you to go into a future career in

020in newscasting? >> Um, yeah, I think it has. It was really fun. >> If I could be famous. Yes. Maybe not doing the news and reporting on weather, but doing like starring in a movie. >> Maybe not like school topics, like other things. >> Like not just doing this, but it got me like just more interested into it. >> Yeah. Along with Owens, I just want to be famous and have a movie. Yeah, probably a movie cuz I think the news is boring, but also like with Owen like I want to be famous like maybe not like doing news but like like but like but it was like fun. >> Sure. Doing it for school is one thing, but I don't really think I would want to pursue it as a career. It's fun, but

021I'm not really one to like go out and report on stories. >> Kind of I kind of agree agree with Charlotte. Um, I really I I like doing it for school, but I still want to be an author. >> He's smart. >> I am. >> He is. He is. >> Great. Thank you again, guys. This was an amazing presentation. I loved the news segment and I look forward to seeing your faces in the future when you guys become famous and saying I knew you when you were fifth graders. Um um so our tradition is to get a picture with you and then I I will have proof that I knew you as fifth graders and uh since Deian is a former LG mom, we'll have her come join me. And just a little shameless plug,

022all of these students will be famous and you're all invited. May 21st is the Lower Gwenned musical, The Grunch. And you are looking at many of the stars of The Grunch. So you're all invited. May 21st at lowerwenned You're certainly welcome to stay. The rest of the meeting will be just as exciting. Um, but if you are leaving, please grab some cookies on the way out. Yes. Okay. There are cookies out there. They weren't all eaten already. Thank you. >> I'm sorry. There's a lot of kids here. I was just waiting till we cleared the room. All right. All right. So um that was our presentation and now I do have a copy that has the dates of our meetings. So I do just want to note um we had prior meetings on March 2nd

023that was our regular public board meeting. March 10th which was our facilities and transportation as well as finance committee meeting. March 17th was board education equity oversight committee community conversation. March 23rd was a work session. And our upcoming meetings on April 13th, we will have a finance committee meeting as well as health, wellness, and safety. April 20th will be board education equity oversight committee meeting. April 27th is our next work session. And May 4th will be our next regular public board meeting. Um, and now getting into our first public comment period. I don't have anybody registered in person and there are no hands raised online. >> All right. So, we will move on then past our first public comment period. to the board president report. And uh this evening I have um for approval the

02426 27 board meeting schedule. Um so do I have a motion? >> So moved. >> There's been a motion. It's been seconded. Are there any comments or questions regarding the schedule? >> Right. Seeing none. All those in favor? I. >> Anyone opposed? Right. Motion passes. All right. We'll move on now to our superintendent report. >> Thank you. Good evening. Um I have one item for board review and approval uh this evening. During our communications committee meeting earlier this evening, we had some conversation about our intention to partner with the Donovan Group for communications audit. The board also previous previously received a memo from me on this topic to explain our efforts, our rationale, the context and our purpose. Um, more information can be found in the communications committee presentation which will be made available on

025the website on board docs. But for this evening, I'm hopeful that the board will approve for us to partner with the Donovan Group. Our intention, as we know, is always to improve in communications. It's been a targeted intention for our efforts this year and we've done some work and had some progress. um around developing communication safety protocols um as well as implementation of some new um communication tools that are on the horizon. Um and while we have made some progress, we know that there's an area, this is an area for continued growth. And so um we're looking to partner with the Donovan Group. They'll do some work to get input from stakeholders through a survey. They'll work with our communications um lead communications um individuals at the school levels and at the district level um

026to really see where we um have areas that are working successfully and where we can improve. And they'll then provide to us a 12-month action plan for some steps that we can take to improve with our district-wide efforts around communication. So this this evening I'm hopeful for a motion uh to approve action item 8.1. >> So moved. >> Second. >> A motion's been made and seconded. Are there any comments or questions? >> I think when Dr. Dwan had um met with several stakeholder groups over the summer um when she was just starting as superintendent. One of the themes that kept coming up um from the feedback was improving communication um from the administration to the district. And so I think this is an important step. I mean you've already made progress, but I think this

027is an important step to further that um goal and make sure that um we're doing the best job we can um to communicate things to the families. So thank you. And I I echo that and I also appreciate that we are looking externally um and from a third party who may not be wearing the same kind of glasses that we're all wearing to give us really some great feedback on you know what's going well but also like where can we further improve. So, I do I'm looking forward to see how this engagement works and how we continue to work on our efforts and communication. So, thank you. Any other comments or questions? All right, seeing none, all those in favor? >> Oh, I >> Anyone opposed? All right, motion passes. And sorry, I thought Stephie

028was raising her hand for a moment. Sorry for that confusion. All right. And we'll move on now to our assistant superintendent report. >> There is no report tonight. Thank you. >> Thank you. Board solicitor report. >> Uh tonight we just have approval of a settlement agreement by and between family A and the Wahhicken School District. Um, and this is a settlement agreement uh not to exceed $765. Is there a motion? Do do you want me to call it? Is there a motion to approve the settlement agreement? >> So moved. >> Second. Any questions or comments? All those in favor? >> I >> thank you very much. So it's passed. Thank you. All right, we'll move on now to board secretary report. Tim, >> uh this month for approval, we have agenda items 11.1 11.6, which

029are six minutes from the committee meetings and public meetings. >> Great. Thank you. Do we have a motion to approve? >> So moved. >> A motion's been made and seconded. Are there any comments or questions? Right. Seeing none. All those in favor? >> I. >> Anyone opposed? Motion passes for treasur report. Tim, >> there's one item for approval, which is the February 28th treasures report. >> Thank you. Is there a motion? A motion's been made and seconded to approve. Are there any comments or questions? Right. Seeing none, all those in favor? >> I. >> Anyone opposed? Motion passes. Thank you. All right. Uh HR report. >> Good evening. Uh changes from last week's agenda are marked with an asterct and can be found in bold in the details. Item 13.1 includes additional retirements, resignations, appointments,

030and changes of status. Item 13.6 is for the approval of a classroom assistant on special assignment. Uh this is in addition to the other two uh from last time. Item 13.7 is for the approval of a contra contracted services for temporary counseling service to cover an unexpected absence and 13.8 is for the approval of a release and separation agreement. These details were shared in a confidential memo to the board prior to the break. All other items were reviewed at last week's work session and have no other changes. So this evening, I'm seeking approval for action items 13.1 through 13.8. Thank you. Very great. Do I have a motion? >> So moved. >> A motion's been made. Seconded. Um, are there any comments or questions? >> All right, seeing none. All those in favor? >> I.

031>> Anyone opposed? Right. Motion passes. Thank you, Danielle. All right. Communications committee report. We did have a meeting prior to um this meeting, but I will prepare notes for that in our next meeting. Um I have no other items for this evening. Thank you. >> Thank you. Uh curriculum and technology. >> Thanks, Amy. Um there are no new are no changes from last week. We're just seeking approval for items 15.1 to 15.3. All right. Is there a motion? >> So moved. >> A motion's been made and seconded. Are there any comments or questions? >> Seeing none, all those in favor? >> I. >> Anyone opposed? Motion passes. Thank you. All right, we'll move on to our facilities and transportation report. Could someone take that? Joe's not here. Tim. >> Yeah. Tonight for approval, we have

032items 16.1 through 16.5 with no changes from last week. Just since Joe is not here, I'll read them. They're the Bureau of Veraritoss facilities conditions report. They accept a five-year capital improvement plan. The approval of the Breerlin uh facility feasibility studies at Shady Grove and the high school. The approval of administration to engage in professional services for the Blue Bell Elementary roofing project. And then finally, the administration to engage in professional service to develop specifications for the Sunni Creek Elementary, sorry, um, roofing project. >> Great. Thank you. Do we have a motion to approve these items? >> Is there a second? >> Second. >> Right. A motion's been made and seconded. Are there any comments or questions? >> I have one. Oh, I'm so sorry. I had one comment and I realize that um Mr.

033Antonio is not here but maybe I can address this with Tim because there are some kind of bigger projects coming up. Would it make sense for us to have maybe a more regular cadence for facilities um moving forward, especially with the review of uh Shady and the high school because um th those probably will be much more robust conversations and we probably need to kind of peacemeal through them. So, not something I expect. I I know I'm giving I literally just thought of this on my drive here and I apologize for not thinking in advance, but uh maybe something you can kind of put in the consideration set because I do think these are going to be kind of big things to tackle. And I think everybody would benefit from additional opportunities to kind of

034think through all of these things. That's all. Sorry, Deianne, for cutting in. >> I just had a question on 16.3. Can you just clarify for like the high school master plan? I know. I'm pretty sure that like in 2017 when we did the I wasn't here for that, but the pool and the plant mask. What is it called? What's the plant called? The central >> auditorium and the central >> and a central whatever that is. Okay. Very official terms being used here. Um there were plans for like additional phases for a high school. I think >> that's correct. So is this like feasibility study to see if those would still work or like or what our next steps would be with it? Can you just explain that briefly, please? >> So the Shady Grove one

035would be to figure out whether or not to do any construction, any additions, any repairs, build a new school, which which direction we should go with that. It's also going to look at what uh statutes we have we have to be able to comply with regard to any construction we do. Same thing with the high school except it's a much larger project obviously. So it's going to have to be done in phases. Um they'll also have to update you know building codes have changed. So all that stuff what we may have had on paper before may not work anymore. So we're going to give that a whole thing. There's also a it's going to be a long it's going to be several months. This is not going to be anything quick. There's programming choices that

036we have to look at and consider and provide. There's all kinds of different things that we want to talk to them about and have input from the stakeholders on how we want to do this. So, it's not going to be a quick one, but it will be a overall comprehensive plan for the high school, too. But I think to Deian's question, it you gave us the impression at the facilities committee uh meeting that the architect is the same architect that put together the prior plan and so they will obviously refer to that plan. I would imagine >> that's correct. It's same same company. So they're just going to be building off of that plan to begin with, but also updating based on the changes we may be wanting to add to that. So, so Tim,

037I don't remember this from the facilities meeting, so forgive me. Um, are are we going in a direction of of green energy and solar and all of those other things in these new buildings? >> So, they're not new buildings yet. I'm not going to jump in. >> I'm sorry, I misspoke. These major renovations. >> So, the major So, yes. So, part of the major some part of the feasibility study that we've asked them to conclude would be solar over parking, stuff like that we could look at. Um, Mr. Russell is already looking at doing a preliminary electric study over at the uh, Shady, I'm sorry, Stony Creek, and that's going to be like our guinea pig to see how this works for us. And based on the feedback we get from there, they're going to

038measure out our electric use. And then from there, they'll give us recommendations to cut our electric use. And after we get that done, we'll look and see if we can apply that to the other buildings out there. Some of it would potentially include solar. >> And I think Tim, please correct me if I'm wrong, but Wade had said that the central plant the high school is compatible for solar. Didn't we ask this before? >> Do you know that off the top of your head? I'm almost positive Wade had said that at one point. >> I do not know the answer to that. >> All right. I thought I remember him saying that because like in the future when that becomes more feasible like we hope >> Yeah. have a philosophy around >> Yeah. Okay. And

039this is probably more of a facilities conversation, but um at North Monco um we do look at Steve, what's the acronym? Use users the like um there is a whole kind of um kind of pathway you could take that helps with energy efficiency. Yeah, I'm not going to give you the right acronym, but I think that's what uh Mr. Bricker is talking about with the energy >> Okay. >> assessment. >> Okay, perfect. >> And I'm sorry, one last comment. Uh just to note, we did note this at the meeting two weeks ago, making sure everybody knows it wasn't last week because hopefully everyone was enjoying themselves last week. Um that uh 16.2 to uh acceptance of the capital improvement projects plan does uh assume that we will be increasing our budget line item for debt

040service. So just uh adding that commentary in there. >> Thank you. Anyone else comments before we vote or questions? All right then. Um all those in favor? >> I. >> Anyone opposed? Right. Motion passes. Thank you. All right. Um then we are up to finance committee report. Steve, >> yeah, there are no changes from two weeks ago. Um we're looking for approval of the normal financial reports and the list of payments uh ending in February. Uh we're also looking for approval um for the retainer for MCNE, Wallace, and NERK for legal services. um and approval to wave policy 707 uh in the amount of $300 to allow uh the Kuanas Club to use the fields during the our uh Fourth of July carnival. >> A motion's been made and seconded. Are there any comments or

041questions? Right. All those in favor? >> I. >> Anyone opposed? Right. Motion passes. Thank you. Right. We'll move on now to our uh policy committee. Null. >> Thank you, Amy. Um so tonight we're looking for approval on items 18.1 through 1810. Um these represent the 10 board policies presented for second and final reading. Uh these policies were first reviewed in detail at the February 9th board policy committee meeting with all supporting materials available in board docs, including an overview of the policy review process. Um the policies were then brought forward to to the full board for discussion and approval for first reading at the March 2nd public board meeting. Since that time there's been no revisions have been made. Um this reflects a thorough and multi-step review process across the committees and full board engagement.

042So tonight we're looking for approval a motion to approve the for the board approval between for items 18.1 through 1810 as presented. >> And um I'm sorry you said 18. You did pull out. >> I did not. 1810 is the one on policy 9. >> Okay. So, let's get a motion on 18.1 through 18.9. >> Yeah, that's what I would like to do. >> Yeah, >> please. >> All right. Uh, the motion's been um made and seconded. Are there any comments or questions on 18.1 through 18.9? All right. Seeing none, all those in favor? >> I. >> Anyone opposed? All right. That motion passes. Um, can I get a motion on 18.10? >> Second. All >> right. A motion's been made. Seconded. Comments or questions? >> All right. Not seeing any comments or questions. We'll

043do a roll call vote on that one. >> Mr. Goolson. >> Yes. >> Miss Kanikis. >> No. Mr. Kelly, >> no. >> Dr. Morris, >> yes. >> Mr. Strauss, >> yes. >> Mr. Walker, >> no. >> Mrs. Ginsburg, >> yes. >> Okay, that is four. Yes. And two no. >> Three no. >> So, it was four three. >> Yes. Okay. All right. So, motion passes. Thank you. All right, we will now move on to um board education equity oversight committee and we don't have a report for that actually. So I guess we can move on from there. Health, wellness and safety. Jean, >> uh there's nothing to report at this time. >> All right, then we'll move on to report of board representatives extracurricular. Dan, >> I do have a report. I got a note

044from Mr. Karens, our athletic director, letting me know that Wish Haken was approved to add unified botchi. So, we will now have two programs in the unified sports program, track and field and botchi ball. >> Awesome. Thanks for sharing that. It's great news. All right. Um, MCIU, I do have just a couple things to report. Um one we had a job fair and we had um an overwhelming response 250 candidates. So that was great. Um at our meeting it was also announced um I don't know if you remember from last year but our math sharks um which is um our deaf and hearing impaired students. Um it's our math team. Uh last year they had competed and again this year they competed at nationals and they got first place. At the time of the meeting,

045it was just announced that they were going to be competing, but since the meeting, we have learned that they got first place. So, that's really awesome. And um in light of the news concerning um the expenses for travel that have come out that you've probably seen in the news, we have formed um as a board and ad hoc committee that will be um investigating this as well as looking going forward and setting some policies concerning these issues. So, those were some of the things that came out of that meeting. All right. Any um comments, questions? >> All right. We'll move on to North Monaco. >> Nothing to represent yet. >> No report. Okay. Uh PSBA. >> Um so, reminder that Advocacy Day in Harrisburg is Monday, May 4th. I just found out I'm going to

046be traveling that day, so I can't go. But maybe someone else wants to go. But here's something else exciting. Um, this PSBA invites school boards to submit um proposals for legislative platforms for the 26 27 school year um to help guide advocacy efforts. So that submission deadline is Friday, June 26. So if anyone comes up with anything, maybe we can talk about it at the next meeting. we can think about it and see if there's any see if there's any um Zafy just whispered start times and I did have a conversation with the PSBA lison about that um a while back and she basically said we serve 500 school districts and this one served them all. So that's my frustration with PSBA because of the wide I guess like basically breadth of school districts that

047are across Pennsylvania. It's um it's hard to have specific platforms that serve everyone. I think sometimes, but we can still advocate for what we would like. So maybe we can think about that and see if there's any ideas at the next board meeting. >> Yeah, I would agree. Like when we go to those advocacy days, sometimes the topics that we're given to advocate on, like suggested topics, aren't necessarily topics that affect our district. >> That's my frustration as well. Yeah. I and while I want to serve every student in Pennsylvania, there's also needs in this specific area and in this specific district that I think um you know we can try to advocate for. So yeah, >> well thanks Dion. >> Sorry, can can I just throw a plug? I mean the one thing that

048I think across the board all of PA schools are struggling with is funding. So, I mean, we should just probably put a lot of energy behind that because everybody's kind of like feeling that right now. >> And I think specifically funding for um building projects and upkeeps of buildings would be a huge I think I know the superintendent North Penn had mentioned that with all of the things they have to do. Um, and I think that's a a theme across Pennsylvania. So, that's a good one. >> A couple couple of us went to the um >> legislative breakfast >> for the legislative breakfast. It was two Fridays ago now and there was a few state county legislators there, but the theme across all of the presentations were was about buildings and aging infrastructures and things

049like that and how are we going to fund it. So, I do think at least those legislators in the room were sympathetic, but how we amplify that is probably how we should be thinking about it. I think the other thing to think about, um, if other people agree with me, is advocating for other avenues for revenue for school districts. When you have these big projects that are coming up and they're millions and millions of dollars, all of that falling on the local taxpayers seems very unfair. Um, like WISH gets relatively few federal and state dollars and so all that we have to do fall back on the local taxpayer and we can't control that. And so, you know, I wish there were other ways we could get funding through the state or federal government for

050school districts. I don't know if that's an area to Yeah. >> And I and I think something else we I think we've talked about in the past because a lot of times when we go up there, we meet with our local representatives. I think it might be nice also at some point for us to actually invite them here to walk through maybe the facilities with us and see our buildings and the condition so they can actually and I'm sure they've done this before with you but maybe as with Yeah. Yeah. So, actually walking through with board members also since we'd be like advocating for this money to come to the district so that we can show them our aging buildings and why we need this money. So, that might be something to consider. All right.

051Anything else on PSBA? All right. Then we'll move on to our second public comment period. Um, nobody in person. No, >> No one online. All right. We'll close our second public comment period and we'll move on to board comments. May you >> Okay. Well, I'm not going to talk though. I'm going to ask Reed Harris to tell us about his state meet, please. >> So, it was really exciting. I obviously went to states for swimming. Um, so going in I was seated first for both my events, the 200 and 500 free, but it was definitely close. I was not seated first by a lot. Um, and going in the first day I made it back for finals and won the 200 free. So that was really exciting. And we also finaled in the relay. So

052it was also nice to be there with other members of the of the team um to swim. And then the next day I swam the 500 and final and won that also. And then with those two wins because I got first place in both I won the PIAA state swimmer of the meet. not only on place but also on how good your times were. And I think some people um it's hard to understand this if you're not in the swimming community but Pennsylvania is one of the fastest swimming states in the nation maybe along with California, Florida, Texas, Indiana. But truly this um it is an amazing feat. I mean you just your performances really did blow me away. So, I'm so proud of you. And Breed is going to swim at Brown next year,

053and I'm looking forward to following him next year as well. So, congratulations. >> Thank you. >> That is incredible. Um, anyone else, any other board comments this evening? No. All right. Well, seeing none, um, do I have a motion to adjourn this evening? All right. All in favor? >> I. >> All right, we are ajourned.
