good afternoon everyone I'd like to call this meeting to order please join us for the flag salute I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all thank you all right on behalf of the board I welcome all members of the audience to this afternoon's meeting this meeting is a working session of the board to conduct the business of the district the agenda for today's meeting has been published and the agenda items to be discussed and/or voted on have been studied by the board members I would like to introduce the people participating in this meeting interim recording secretary Jane pride Prine superintendent dr. Michelle Reed board members Jacqueline McGirt E Amy cast David Cogan and Sandi

Hayes I'm Bob Swain I currently serve as board president agendas for this meeting as well as minutes from our previous meeting are available online at board Doc's comm so now our first order of business is approval of the agenda with the board like to make any changes to the agenda as it is published all right thank you is there a motion to approve so moved thank you there's worked right the Jenna's proved five to zero thanks Jane it worked awesome all right we're moving on to programs and special presentations this week is Pride Month and we have Governor enslie's proclamation designating June 2020 as lesbian gay bisexual transgender queer two-spirit and intersex Pride Month and director Hayes is volunteered to read the proclamation for us right whereas the state of Washington recognizes that one of

its greatest strengths is the diversity of its people and whereas Washington State has a long-standing tradition of upholding the dignity of the individual supporting leaked legal equality and faith treatment for all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity and ensuring that the acts of discrimination and hatred will not be tolerated and whereas members of the lesbian gay bisexual transgender queer two-spirit and intersex communities LGB cutey contribute to our state success and strength and a great number of immeasurable ways and whereas the LGBTQ community continues to be a target of violence harassment and discrimination by many and yet continues to thrive through the support of the LGBTQ affirming spaces agencies and individual allies and whereas lesbian gay bisexual transgender or queer two-spirit and intersex Washingtonians invite all people to join them during the month of

June in celebrating the resiliency and contributions of the community in safe and responsible ways such as virtual or other alternatives to in-person gatherings during these challenging times now therefore I James Lee governor of the state of Washington do hereby proclaim June 2020 as lesbian gay bisexual transgender queer two-spirit and intersex Pride Month in Washington and I encourage all people in our state to join in celebrating diversity and promoting inclusion and equal protection under the law and I further encourage people to join me in eliminating discriminatory policies and practices toward any culture race or group Thank You director Hayes appreciate that now dr. Reid superintendence reporter Thank You president Swain excuse me I choked on some water I'd like to share that we are in the middle of graduation season and we've the filming of two

of our excuse me for comprehensive virtual graduations done and the remaining two will be filmed this week we've also filmed our North Shore networks and SAS proceedings as well as our adult transition program events so excitement looking forward to having a chance to view those online and their finished form I know a lot of effort has gone into those on the parts of our high school principals teachers counselors support staff and families and also just want to congratulate all of our graduates because the next time we meet they will have all graduated so I hope you felt the love of our entire community in this most unusual of Springs want to mention that on Friday our lottery was drawn for the 27 spots in our Chinese language program we did have over 50 applicants and

those young 1st graders that were selected by lottery were notified last Friday morning so that'll be our first group of Chinese language program students in the first grade classroom at sunrise Elementary so we're looking forward to that program starting in the fall I want to mention that a Wednesday evening June 10th at 5 o'clock we're gonna have an open forum for the Innovation Lab High School and we had several of their scheduled Parrott evenings as you might remember in march and then the pandemic hit so we sort of had to abruptly shift gears so we're gonna be hosting that event on Wednesday evening at 5 o'clock and are excited about that I will say I was somewhat I was so looking forward to getting the OSPI guidance today I know it was the target date

but we did receive an email from our OSPI superintendent indicating that they're working hard but are not quite ready to release recommendations or directives yet but then hopefully they'll have something out by the end of the week so we'll be patient a little longer as we look forward to reviewing those parameters let's say that in the coming probably tomorrow we're hoping I'll be making my if you will contemplations about the fall live on our website including the articles i've received and those things that I'm reading as I'm thoughtful about our fall planning so that the community can look at all the range of articles and perspectives that we each have received are reviewing and it's a pretty comprehensive look at data and we're going to continue to update that as the community members provide us

articles and I even encourage community members to peruse the articles and read them as well I think the more perspectives we take into account as we plan forward the more robust our decision-making will be and finally I had an opportunity to meet with our PTSA Council North Shore Council leadership this afternoon as we contemplated what robust survey for parents might look like that would capture what's gone well this spring and areas maybe we could work on to improve and just maybe capture our concerns and ideas for the Fall so we're working on that and hope to have something put together that we'll be able to get out to families if not by the end of the week early next week we want to be really thoughtful about framing how we choose to get feedback because

it's really important that we not constrict feedback to just options because that might limit our thinking but rather what our ideas and wonders worries concerns excitements that we can factor in with all of our stakeholder groups and come up with the best possible solution for North Shore within the Oh spi guidelines when we receive them so finally I do want to share that as part of my report this evening I've heard from a number of community members and staff and students as well as I know you as a board have regarding school resource officers and given our current social justice initiatives and our nation's focus really right now on black lives matter and police conduct particularly hasn't emanated in Minneapolis with the killing of George Floyd I think is we think forward to the fall

and the role of school resource officers and where that fits within our strategic plan I think it would be wise at a future meeting to have a conversation like we would about all programs moving forward both their impact and how well they support our move towards achieving our five ambitious goals for our strategic plan and I know perhaps a new business some of you might mention that as well since it's not technically on our agenda it's not something we can necessarily discuss tonight but I think it's some it's part of a bigger conversation that I know we want to have so that's my report president Swain thank you thank you dr. Reid any questions for dr. Reid anyone Hey thank you again all right we will move on to the consent agenda is there a

motion to approve moved thank you any discussion changes I will call vote motion carries 5-0 thank you we'll move on to action items first on our action item list is resolution number eight one eight affirming black lives matter and dr. dr. Maggard II was so nice to volunteer to read this for us must be said that director Cogan had a large part in drafting this resolution with help from staff also so thank you director Cogan go ahead doctor agree okay thank you my privilege North Shore School District for one seven resolution number eight one eight a resolution of the board of directors of North Shore School District number four one seven King and Snohomish counties Washington affirming black lives matter whereas the School District Board of Directors is accountable to oversee and to ensure the

highest quality education and school community for our students and staff and whereas the board acknowledges that it is impossible for us to fully understand the injustice that our black neighbors friends and loved ones experience and have endured and whereas our black students staff and families continue to suffer through inequities in education health care employment housing and liberty and whereas systemic and institutional racial inequities are a pervasive injustice which prevents this country from living up to its ideals of liberty and justice for all and whereas the board strongly once our black students staff and families to know that we see you we hear you we care deeply about you and about your future and whereas bigotry hate fear and violence must be overcome with compassion love education and justice and whereas the time for equality and

justice in our society is long overdue now there for the board of directors of North Shore School District resolves one black lives matter too we will learn from and partner with our black community members to which help achieve equality across our nation three we endorse black lives matter at school week of action adopted by the Board of Directors on North North Shore School District number four one seven kings de hamish counties Washington at its regular meeting on June 8th 2020 Thank You director McCready else have anything to say or at this time Big Mike um well I would first of all like to thank David for a beautiful framing of this I think he did an amazing job and I'm so grateful for him doing that and taking the initiative I'm I'm wondering so this

is a resolution and back in November of 2016 and the composition of the board at that time did a proclamation and I apologize I don't I can't articulate the difference between a population and the resolution the proclamation wasn't as specific as this targeted but it was in that frame and so I'm wondering if there's a way to hold those two together to demonstrate that this isn't about the five individuals that currently sit on the North Shore board that this is a value held by the North Shore school board that has rung true for four years I think that's a great idea director Hayes I'm sure we can we can get that resolution out and it's it's actually it's a perfect example you bring up about how as a body the school board is as does

artwork as a whole even if the members differ and since 2015 we have been working very hard on this and and it it is a tire conversation especially when you bring into context the equity policy as well the seven goals and the equity policy and all the listed responsibilities and accountability features of that policy as well that we should all think of this as a whole I think that's a great idea and we I don't have it at my fingertips but I think we could get that back up did you get it yeah can you remind us the title of it it just says proclamation respectful and inclusive environment and it was approved on December 13th of 2016 what is your proposal director Hayes to somehow merged these two or reference them with respect to

each other yeah I think it's just that they're they're held together in the same space this one is it's very specific to black lives matter and I don't want to anyway dilute that that one was a broader being respectful and inclusive of all people so but it was just it was I just think it's a really good opportunity for us to remember this isn't about us as individuals this is a value for North Shore and our house and so just somehow that we keep those together that this is ongoing work and we will continue moving forward with it so no so we're not taking action right we're not we're just gonna keep the record straight okay and comprehensive perfect okay we will make sure we do that [Music] you see her do you know yeah

I do actually I'm not yeah was this friend of thank you motion I can make them marry me the motion to approve I will be happy to make a motion to approve thank you all right thank you all right motions been approved in second in seconded any further discussion all right I'll call director Cogan yes yes thanks to you yeah you did a great job dr. Cogan that's lovely thank you everyone can you still hear me yeah yeah okay thank you [Music] did we skip over the consent agenda no [Music] okay very good I am paying very close attention I just wanna know all right the motion carries five to zero thank you very much again David Cogan that was an excellent statement all right action item number F 2 is the 20 22 through

0182023 superintendent contract and I guess dr. Reid Wayne I think you really have two items there one is I believe my annual evaluation or action and then essentially that contract rolls a third year over with a commensurate percentage salary increase at other administrative staff received I believe it's the implicit price deflator the 1.6 percent but they're really two items they're one the evaluation and the contract which you're addressing together I believe yeah the contract was the only thing listed here isn't I think that's the only actual action item knows where do we have to approve the evaluation but I believe the evaluation is a document supporting you know as reference as we discuss the contract so we discussed evaluation at our last meeting which you've summarized mmm document right right we met as an executive

session to discuss the performance of a public employee and actually that was just a quick conversation to summarize all the evaluation we've been doing throughout the year right and so that quick executive session just provided an opportunity to just discuss the performance and then that conversation I think you did a great job summarizing in this document president Swain in terms of not only the monitoring reports during a year but then your concluding paragraphs on the second page in terms of documenting some of the overarching work that's been done this year thank you would it be would you like me to read that piece or or we don't have to it's already been published though I think it's I think it's great if people want to read it and understand yeah it's it's really helpful for

the general public to understand what criteria the board uses when we evaluate the superintendent it's it's one of the largest portions of our job performance of the district's visa fee the superintendent's performance and so the summary and if people want to actually look up every single monitoring reports that we base this off of that's all been published on the website as well we try to make this as transparent as possible so the general summary is that we've found that the superintendent to be doing an excellent job and pursuing the goals in passions and wishes of the district according to the strategic plan and it's not an easy job and it hasn't gone it doesn't always go perfect but I would say that the effort and the overall results have been outstanding so we'd like to

thank you we formally find you basically in compliance with almost everything and we appreciate you being here and we want to keep you as long as we can we do have good thank you I was talking to some colleagues earlier this morning I'll be starting my fortieth year and we were talking about what a difference sometimes experience makes you know you know and keeping that strong steady hand on the rudder so I appreciate your desire to keep me in the role at this time are you very welcome I'm glad you want to stick around a little bit longer [Laughter] so what do you have so we're adding another year to the contract but I'm gonna send out correctly to make it another full three-year term moving forward starting with next year the changes to the

contractor fairly minimal compared to the overall contract we're increasing your salary basically based on the same schedule as other principles on a competitive basis to be competitive with top performing districts around our region and then also I believe includes a camera of the percentage now it's a 1.6 percent increase on top of the competitive sliding scale right the mid-year adjustment that's in all administrative contracts was five point one eight percent this year five point one eight percent and then moving forward the implicit price deflator the one point six percent from the state is what we're just passing through exactly thank you for summarizing that for me for getting written down well let's start with a motion is there a motion to approve the contract second second any other questions further comments I'll continue to be

grateful for the service 40 years of serving children dr. Reed I mean we're lucky to benefit from that in our community directly but that is just a testament to your dedication to serving children all over our state in our country frankly with all the work that you've done so thank you for continuing to do that it's a pleasure to work with you thank you well yeah echo that's so grateful that you're sticking on it sticking around if you talk to anybody right now that's going through a change of leadership right now it's they're feeling quite rudderless and so you are already we're an amazing leader and and so wise and thoughtful as we go through the completely overused word of unprecedented times your your wisdom and guidance have been we're just so grateful for it

I go the same thing if you know we could have put an extension there for 10 years I think we all would have done it I don't know what 50 years would look like we all appreciate also not only just your talent and your input and your guidance is just being being willing to stick with us continually here you know before you got here the great change started to occur with structural change with a strategic plan and of course in policy governor governance you know we're still in the middle of moving that you know turning the ship and moving things forward it would it would be frightful if we had to start again with a different person at the helm I think so we appreciate that just the continuity for sure thank you all right

there's no further comments I will call for the right motion carries 5-0 thank you okay we'll move on to information items g1 district budget budget status report for April of 2020 doctor eat yeah Thank You president Swain Jane if you could bring up the memo the first page I know I received a question about the thank you oh dear if we could make that thank you so again our enrollment stayed steady our general fund continued to match what we believed we should see are as you recall this is an April financial report so taxes come in April and we did place our April taxes in our you know our unrestricted I believe reserve kind of think what we call an aside an aside and I know I met with budget this morning and that's there

temporarily there are some bills that come in and out of that at this time but right now our budget all major buds budgets are trending as we would expect and even with the delay in property tax collections we're on we're on track so if you don't mind doctor we don't have a quick question so it in terms this is the first report where we had a full month of dealing with remote learning and how that starts to impact our financials so you know the collection of the property taxes aside and that two million dollar delay that of label C resolved in July but in terms of expenses you know it's trying to get an understanding of how remote learnings impacted our expenses it would seem that it has but I don't know if that was

just an anomaly anomaly in April things got set up or if we could expect the expense line items to start to look a little different us in June as well so I think the expense line items I think we did some tech purchasing right as we transitioned maybe some different I'm not sure that we're going to see a tremendous amount I think it's more of the larger ticket items the insurance and some of our larger annual expenditures that are yet to move forward because we have business staff also work remotely so your transition time so some of the annual bills may be off cycle a little bit but it wouldn't be much so I don't think we're gonna see a dramatically different pattern we may in some budgets transportation for example might look different because

we have we've been doing the food and nutrition deliveries rather than necessarily delivering students we might see some fuel savings though if we're going to be in buildings in the fall if we're gonna try to make that work and if OSPI recommends that our understanding from the CDC guidelines it would be that a lot of fans we're going to need to have a very high level of ventilation and so some of the utility costs we may be saving now we'll certainly be spent later I also want to remind the board that 85 percent of our budget is personnel and so really we're talking about 15 percent of the budget that maybe an EM Sox or discretionary much of which had been purchased for the year so we're tracking all of those pieces and hopefully she'll

have some will have some comparative results and reports for the next board meeting that's great thank you yeah that I'll just build off the director cast we know that the legislature is looking for ways to cut their budget and so starting to hear a narrative that we're saving all this money because we're not in in brick-and-mortar school so maybe and I'm just thinking out loud what would be helpful to the board is some documents that demonstrate 85 percent of our budget didn't change the 15% we just swapped out costs we swapped out gas and you know heating and so forth for purchasing a fans and technology and so forth and so something that we can take to our legislators and say no we're really not saving money in this new environment the the costs are

very similar if not more right and we're also sort of I don't know how else to put it but kind of delaying some educational services for some students which we're still going to have to make up with no new money's coming so the offset of fuel for example is not going to be sufficient to support you know services that are in some ways going to need to be made up and then we don't know really what the summer recommendations from OSPI are going to be because they're not out yet and traditionally OSP heís not OSPI is not funded summer programs we're kind of waiting to find out what that means no but I agree with director Hayes even if it's a quick paragraph or a couple sentences something with a little bit of specificity to

it at least that we can bring some numbers to the legislators that would be I have it and just I had mentioned it last board meeting I was going to send an email to our legislators I ended up not director Hayes and I were talking it's you know sometimes just blanket updates aren't necessarily helpful to our legislators so that usually you want on very specific point to them or a request to them and I didn't want to just annoy them for lack of a better term but you know a financial update I think would be really helpful especially with you know both the county in the state still toying with ideas of adjusting property tax collections in some way another the fact that you know we took in two million dollars less in April if

that's gonna be extended past July that's something that we can get very specific with in an update well and I think to your point both director Hayes and director cast our financial impact is still ahead of us try to reopen school the amount of PPE the personal protective equipment for staff and students likely needing to be disposable face masks thermometers plastic shields you start to look at the CDC recommendations the ability to only transport perhaps 10 to 12 students on a large bus at any one time the need to disinfect buildings at a different level and buses in a different way those expenses really we've never budgeted for that level of extraordinary expense and as I mentioned in our last meeting we received a very small amount of care as money which will not cover

even the number of face masks what we would need for a couple months so I think anything we might be saving in fuel is gonna be used up very quickly and trying to prepare to in a safe and healthy way open schools in the fall so it's almost the budget forward worries that are really of greater concern yeah great you know something with some speaking points if you will when we have a chance to speak to current and/or potential future legislators in the coming months would be really useful I think and and impactful I'll ask chief financial officer Tracy Patterson and deputy superintendent Dugan Harmon chief operations officer Joe Paperman I think and put together a paragraph or two and we're really blessed to have legislators they get it in our within our district and

really count on them for collaborative support and I know we're all grateful for the work they try to do on our behalf yeah this gives them the ammunition also on the same topic at the county level I read an article just came out the other day and I don't know if it I can't remember it's a proposal or they're actually gonna do it but the county assessor was potentially going to defer property taxes for the second half of this year for commercial businesses if they can show that they have not been able to collect a certain amount of rent on their investment properties so you look at like the Woodinville the retail sector there might be that'll impact us somehow I don't know what the level of impact will be but we might want to

have someone follow up with the county both counties maybe on that topic to see if something like that might impact us or you know sooner than later well yeah the good news is it's actually gonna work to our advantage is that we have a very small amount of commercial real estate in our district that's kind of always been a challenge for us is that other districts have much larger ones but I read the same article and the percentage is pretty small of commercial real estate that has non paying renters they anticipate it being a pretty small hit and for us the good news is we we don't have a whole lot in our district so it shouldn't but it is would be good to have some idea what we're talking dollar-wise know is there any

any further questions on the district budget okay we'll move on to capital projects budget fund allocation for April 2029 yeah Thank You president Swain Jane if you could bring this report up please what I would say is that I think that again the memo the update is as we would have expected it it's trending there are no surprises here each project is working forward and to be honest there hasn't there wasn't a true you know a tremendous amount of capital work occurring as this is the report for April so things are just rolling forward the loc project I know we're making more progress on than we previously thought we might so that's ahead of schedule but all other topics and projects are trending as we would expect that's good to hear just a quickie I

just keep seeing the Boathouse partnership the 250 grand that we've set aside for the crew house is that the status of that project with the city of Ken Malloy my understanding it's in permitting and if you recall the source of that financing came from selling a three foot strip of property near North Creek High School as part of the finalization I believe of the laying of utilities so we were able to sell that at quite a substantial benefit to the district and then turn around and use it to support the the crew boathouse I know that the city of Kenmore received a grant from the state as well as some other funding and my understanding is I've looked at diagrams but our Jo Paperman Dugan Harmon Rob Carr Lindsay staff are all working on that

and I believe they are hoping to have something ready to go by next spring season thanks for the update all right not seeing any further discussion there will move to discussion items North Shore innovates North Shore loans 2.0 dr. Reed yeah Thank You president Swain I was talking here to talk a little bit about the OSP recommendations which we don't have and for us it'll be Northshore learns 3.0 in the fall because we're already in 2.0 and just I guess what I would say is we're excited to look forward to Innovation Lab High School's open forum Wednesday evening at 5 o'clock looking forward to collecting stakeholder feedback concerns idea for both what we want to carry forward from what we've been doing and how we anticipate the fall rolling out and we're in this I

think William bridges calls it a neutral zone right where we're leaving something we've known and we're not yet clear and where we're headed so it's a time for creativity right now but I don't have the report that I would have liked to have had because it's not out yet from OSPI and today was supposed to be the day mm-hmm all right well maybe for our next meeting we'll have something hopefully by the end of the week as they say but they did say hopefully and say on Friday today program recommendations summer is fast upon us so for be fabulous to have an idea of what those will be it would be any other thoughts why we have you dr. Reid here on this section of anything no just look for that website presence of sort

of the contemplations on you know returning to or contemplations on starting again for a North Shore okay thank you all right word reports and communications I'll start with new business anyone have any new business I do so kind of as a follow toward the conversation we just had when we were going over the budget status report would it make sense for us to make our legislative priorities a little early you know usually we think about that in the fall as we're doing meetings before sessions and the legislature starts in January maybe we should have a discussion item on the agenda next meeting and then we can kind of query us all and then I can write up a draft it might be an idea to do it sooner rather than later and it's a great

idea okay so then yeah so dot so president Swain if you don't mind if we can have under four reports if we can just have a little agenda item to talk about a legislative priority draft and we can just brainstorm a little bit together in terms of what board directors might want to see on that and then that also gives a great period of time to take the feedback from our finance team in terms of what we'd like to include in that for our legislators and there might be you know I don't think we just have to stick with finances we might want to talk about you know any sort of instructional flexibility as we're looking at any sort of transportation issues I think we should think pretty broad my suggestion put it on an

agenda for next next week we're in exciting right now we already have a slate of legislative priorities is that worth you know what maybe we could we could post it we could post it as just a reference point yeah so we can see that we always try to keep it just on one side of one page only constraining thing and then and it's usually been guided sometimes by specific specific legislation that's dropping but more it's usually more topical but we could we could just obviously focus on what North sure learns 3.0 just looking like and what we might be support with yeah I think that's a great idea because our existing one we created eight months ago in a different world yeah I think would and then that's that sound good I have two other

two other things I was gonna say before we move on I think that's a great idea and actually we you know we might want to think about doing this on a regular basis it's nice to get to the legislators before they are rush of other interest group stimulated with you know in the fall prior to session so it doesn't hurt to have maybe a little summer time with legislators they might we might have some more face time with them and yeah so this is going to be our little beta you know yeah what else do you have and just as you you kind of alluded to this earlier Superintendent Reed but as you start pulling together thinking about how SROs are implemented in our schools right now um you know I was wondering if you

can just add a piece of information to that and that's around the training I know there's legislative requirements in terms of what kind of training Aceros are required to have and just in terms of how sometimes I know that what is put in law sometimes of basements right and so in terms of how it's actually doing implemented as we've partnered with our our police agencies in the region I just was one at asked specifically for you to add that so that was my second my second thing and then my third item even though we don't see her face right now the fact that this is Cindy Benson's last meeting supporting us which I found out just about 60 minutes ago I had not put that together this is the last meeting with her supporting us

I just wanted to make sure that we had an opportunity to thank her for all her support I don't know if a lot of people who see her as the recording secretary you know and we we will be back at the dice again luckily but when she's been there and you know she's just this calm gentle presence and I don't know if it's really known by people how much she supports the work of this district and how much she supports students through and it's been what 25 years of service in in North Shore that she's done and so just with her gentle strength and she keeps us moving forward not because we will go crazy if people let us but you know in terms of being unorganized which way are we going but she not

only keeps us like on the right organizational path but she just is has such a way of always being having a positive way of helping us and supporting us and anyone who's you know who's interacted with her who needed to get a hold of us or get a hold of you dr. Reid so I just wanted to publicly thank her for her service to the district and wish her all the best in her retirement and you know with her grandkids like your cast we're gonna miss her terribly yeah she made my entry in the district something special I know she's on the phone in the background I know she can hear us those are my items thank you get her to cast anyone else on the board have any new business I could just follow

up on to that - as dr. Reid said for me as well making my entry into the this district would have been impossible without Cindy Benson so I can't thank her enough for everything that she's done thank you [Music] reports Legree was first okay we're here well I managed to miss I'm afraid almost disrupted the this last week's was the networking call but I was able to attend the last PTSA Council meeting of the year on June 1st so I got to see all these wonderful wonderful people receiving all of their year-end rewards in particular uh principal Gary Keeler who won the outstanding educator of the Year award from the PTSA so that was that was just a wonderful wonderful meeting to attend the Sun and then this morning I got to at least see

a part of the engl more High School commencement activities and that was just so very exciting aside from district work I had the opportunity to attend a march in Woodinville on Sunday that was organized by the Woodinville social justice connection within a number of of players who we would all know and love and recognize we've heard from a number of state and city legislators as well as a large number of community members after the March which was just terribly inspiring and hopeful so I wanted to pass that along my reports pretty quick this week so I just offered that since the last board meeting I was able to attend to with the wasta networking calls and looking forward I think maybe wooden bills last tomorrow in terms of recording their graduation so mm that'll be

that'll be tomorrow but that's that's my report thanks George cast director Cogan was because computer kitchen or not I don't think he was able to move on he comes back on Thank You president Swain I'm sorry for the delay difficulties thank you yeah my report basically I just wanted to share what a nice experience it was to attend the virtual graduation taping for both the high school last week it was really lovely to see staff there to greet the students that I saw come through and what a nice way for the community to make the extra effort for these seniors in this difficult time of their high school graduation and then also wanted to mention that I had the pleasure of walking downtown Bothell for Friday for the black lives matter NSEA event and it

was lovely I heard about 600 people were there and it was lovely to see so many staff members and neighbors that we haven't been able to see in quite some time so thank you Kogan director hey this is next time thank you very similar activities went to the taping first as North Shore networks very well done but different it was difficult giving a speech to an empty room that I struggled with don't don't need to do that again anytime in a hurry but thanks to all their staff for doing such a lovely job making sure we're safe and everybody was in there mass so forth I did monitor one of our launch day presentations the Schools Foundation did moved launch day to a virtual went over about three weeks so I was the host for

one of the presentations and wasn't super well attended but I think just the word needs to get out so we'll continue to work on it but really great presentations and they're all on the web if you want to watch Patsy Treece describe what fluid should look like when they come out of your body and when you should call the doctor it is a great presentation but there's also some really good ones John Daly did one on household emergencies and what you should have in your house and how you handle them I think every graduating senior should watch before they move out on their own and then in in my role as was chair of the ledge committee I got spent two days eight hours for two days in a row so 16 total running committee

of 30 people as they debate all the serious topics that we're facing so that that was and I grew a lot and those two days exercise those skills but good good conversations and just to give our board a heads up the General Assembly which will be a combining of the delegate assembly and legislative assembly is going to be all virtual in September and everybody will be invited to attend so you can watch from the safety of your office or spare bedroom or wherever and participate in it so we're still working on the fine details but everybody will be able to attend and it will be free and so the new new ways of doing things and I just want to wrap up by thanking Cindy for all her service she had to follow in Janet's

footsteps which had to be so intimidating and did not miss a beat it was just absolutely seamless her coming in and just so supportive and patience with us director cast points as we would forget things or not know what to do she was always so kind and gracious when we'd say what I was doing her oh my gosh I forgot can you quickly add this in and she's been just a delight to work with and I'm heartbroken that she's leaving but wish her so much joy with her grandchildren and and her in her future hmm that's nice thank you director Hayes similar to me I was assigned to North Creek High School for my speech and taping in the empty room was in the only positive is that you can start over if you mess

up so I ripped over my words a little bit my very first few lines I was able to but I was I did stick around for quite a while and to watch the students come in their robes and caps gowns and pick up their their their stuff and and just I want us to give a shout out to principal McDowell and his staff it was such a joyful event Eric was out there you know organizing his traffic cop keeping the cars flow and making sure the parents parked their car the right spot so I could get the photo of the students and it was really well done there was a lot of staff out there their mascot and there was just a lot of big smiles on everybody's faces was nice for parents to be

able to do some some kind of a kind of in person graduation ceremony so it was really well done and I heard that the other schools did a fantastic job also so I want to thank dr. Reed and her staff and all the administrators our were involved with putting on those events because they weren't they weren't they weren't easy to do and easy to coordinate and then also Cindy thank you so much for bringing on especially dr. Maggard he and I as newbies to this whole thing and I'll just reiterate what everybody else has said you having your professionalism is amazing you're so good at what you do at the district and you're joyful spirit is is another thing I mean your smile it was always an uplifting presence especially when some of us were

a little panicked about what we should do or shouldn't do or do we lose this document in that document you know is this like essence my land and help us out so I really really appreciate that and will be truly missed come by and visit sometime though alright I think that is it this meeting is adjourned and we'll have one more my guest official meeting well we have more than one official me one more official meeting this month and then we'll keep going for a bit but we'll see you later
