Where's his life? earlier than >> that he would, but I don't know. >> Welcome to our school board meeting tonight. Will you please join me in the pledge of allegiance? I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you for joining us tonight. Do we have any needs for translation? None. Okay, we will move on. And at this time, I will accept a motion to approve tonight's agenda. I'll make a motion to approve the agenda. >> I'll second it. >> I have a motion and a second. All in favor? >> I I Any opposed? Motion passes 40. >> We'll throw it over to our student rep. Do you guys have anything?

>> No, nothing. >> Nothing. >> We've had a week off, so nothing's happened. >> I know where you spent that week. >> Yep. >> Um, okay. We'll move into our board member discussion, starting with our legislative report from Director Gerber. >> Okay. Okay, I do have a little bit for legislative report. Marissa, do you have that thing to pull? Okay. So, usually I focus on Washington legislative priorities, but since we just got back from our our conference with the National School Boards Association, I thought I would um run through their priorities for this cycle, what they're working on right now. So, this is just a flyer that they've sent out that has that talks about the things that they're focused on that they're lobbying for over in Washington for the federal side of things. The

first one being fully funding and modernizing the individuals with disabilities education act. And you can see right there it says that the ID the IDA mandates the federal government cover 40% of special education costs. Currently, the funding it's only being funded around 14%. So, this is something they're pushing for to get more funding for, you know, special education and for this act. Um, the second one talks about expanding, strengthening, and retaining the educated workforce. There's teacher shortages um all over and so they are pushing for um things that Congress can do to help with those teacher shortages. Their third point is strengthening investments in title one and career and technical education which are both um important programs that the federal government um should be supporting. They're wanting more support for on those things. Their fourth

point is promoting digital access, dig digital literacy and cyber security. And then the fifth one is prioritizing student health, wellness and safety. And then the their last point is to oppose school vouchers in all their forms which um they feel that takes away um funding that should be directed for public education. Um and so they don't want that funding to go away from public education into these voucher programs. So the thing that really stands out to me is that a lot of these things are, you know, the exact same things that we're dealing with here that these are problems everywhere. And so NSBA is doing their legislative work to um push for these points on the federal side of things as well. Um, any questions about any of these things? >> Yeah. What what's the

voucher program? Would that mean like if you homeschool you your money? >> You can explain it better than I can. >> Yeah. I think the primary concern around it is that um communities that have private school options um mo mostly faith faith-based in our in our part of the world. um that you could take your the contribution that the state or feds give to school districts per child that we can calculate a cost per student, revenue per student, the family will then get that that money to be able to use for these private options. So you'd be the concern is that you pull funding from public schools and then families can then turn around and use that money for tuition. >> Okay. So those vouchers aren't aren't happening now, but there are groups that want

that to be a thing and NSBA opposes that. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Any other questions? >> Okay. Um, moving into a little bit of our calendar in our board member discussion. I wanted to talk to you guys about scholarship night. That's on May 5th. Marisa should be sending us an email with a list of applicants pretty soon
