um is there anybody else okay all right evelyn you're you're our first in person good afternoon everyone my name is evelyn rivas gutierrez i started working for the bachelor island school district in 2005 i am bilingual in spanish in english a number of staff have spanish as their first language i am familiar with all the buildings and their staff i have knowledge of cleaning schedules and requirements i have expertise in the use of custodial equipment i have experience in ordering cleaning supplies i have experience in training new staff i am the sei union leader experiencing and negotiating the contract organizing meetings and representing co-workers in disputes i understand the contract and what the union role is in the district i was the lead custodian at manchester high school until the position was eliminated i have
previous office experience working for the catholic church on the island as administrator assistant for seven years finally i am a parent with two children attending to a school district my elder son is graduating later this year i am invested in the district for both as an employee as a parent i am here tonight to say when the position for facilities manager was posted i sent in my application after not getting a response i email it a letter of interest for the facilities director in november 2 2020 it wasn't until january the 20th when i got a response for my letter of interest a thank you a promise for an interview as of march 24 2021 i still having had an interview and find out that the position was fill it as of too nice and
tonight it's on the agenda for approval i understand the district has the right to make this decision that's not my issue my concern is when i was told by my supervisor that i was going to be interviewed i had that expectation i felt i unqualified applicant and deserve to be interviewed the district states on a website that it's an equal employ opportunity employer i feel marginalized why was my application dismissed this raises a lot of questions in my mind if i am told by my supervisor that i will be interviewed and then fails to follow through this may suggest that there is a problem with integrity or his part or the district after 60 years working for the district i have realized that management is not interested in promoting from waiting there is no pathway
upwards for staff in the custodial department why doesn't the district support its custodial employees to move up to management so they can use their experience and skills if they fall short in some areas why not give them the training to become well-rounded value staff as far as i'm concerned the best facilities director supervisor we ever had came from within many times over the years i have seen a discrepancy in the way that some staff are undervalued underappreciated as opposed to others to enjoy privileges that are not available for everyone i am standing up to ask the question it is time for the district to evaluate the co its culture when it comes to giving opportunities to those who already have proven their commitment to the district by promoting within finally i would like to ask
the board and administrators why i was not granted an interview okay thank you very much remember we don't respond yeah so it's hard it's very hard for the five of us to sit here and yeah and um but thank you very much yeah thank you for your time absolutely absolutely absolutely yeah thank you okay no other public comments okay uh so moving on to the superintendent report thank you board chair it's official okay tonight i would like to read a statement of support for aapi community and a new mask and let's see if i can keep my glasses from fogging i'm told i'm or just not breathe okay dear vashon island community like many in our community and in communities across the nation i was saddened and shocked by the violent attacks in atlanta on
march 16th it has been almost two weeks since the incident however it is not too late to speak out six of the eight individuals who lost their lives in atlanta were working class women of asian descent thereby reminding us of the dangers of stereotypical rhetoric associated with race gender socio socio-economic status and sexual identities these events come in the context of a wide deeply disturbing trend of anti-asian racism and violence that we've seen around the country while the plague of anti-asian racism is not new there has been a disconcerting increase in violent and xenophobic acts since the pandemic began to our asian asian american and pacific islander students scholars staff and community i want to reaffirm our steadfast support you are an essential part of our vashon family with the rich and varied history and
we stand with you in your grief and alarm over the recent attacks and against the racist acts that are on the rise racism and hatred have no place on vashon island these terrible incidents reinforce the actions we are taking to advance diversity equity and inclusion in our school district our strength comes from embracing our diversity and all that our varied perspectives backgrounds and exceptionalities bring to our community tonight and in tonight's board meeting we will recommit ourselves to these ideals and to supporting our asian asian american and pacific islander community here on vashon and in communities across the nation we have a guest tonight from the secondary schools that is greg allison danny rock and assistant principal andrew gus who goes by gus they've prepared a presentation this evening about our returned in person learning
scheduled the week of the 12th but before that before they get on i'll just give a quick update covet activity today was at 104 for 100 and at our last board meeting it was at 84. and so there has been an increase depending on who you are you might call it slight or medium some may find even the 24 points alarming as well but that is where we are we are still in phase three um and uh so that being said uh i don't have any other updates in terms of covet activity um i will say the board that we are sarah day and i are still exploring some surveillance testing opportunities so we do feel positioned to take advantage of some of the programs and services that department of health is offering we probably
will have information for you at the april 22nd board meeting on that i think we might actually be be a little bit further along right now it's a matter of vendors um who's piloting some programs and whether or not they're going to get contracts with doh so that it's reimbursed we do not want to um incur any costs because doh is uh is kind of putting footing the bill for many programs this is not the kind of program that we want at this point in time so it's so we we want to do pulled surveillance testing and i'll share more about that with you once we get further along all right thank you very much uh greg danny and gus for coming this evening do we have enough mics for you i know we have
a mic over there we have a couple other mics if you want to probably make it easier to report i'll stay over here and interrupt greg while he's up there talking awesome great great yeah thanks for being on the hot seat dan uh thanks a lot uh we appreciate you uh looking hopefully you can see the uh the presentation a little bit on it good we can't if we click it on board docs yeah yeah just a little update uh it seems like we've been planning uh probably for the last six years but it's really only been about the last six weeks i suppose that we've been full-on uh planning for secondary hybrid and reopening right after spring break kind of forward ahead essential in our planning was really getting to the bottom of how
many kids were really going to come back to our schools in person and then really how many staff we really we really needed to to work with and accommodate and so we had a fantastic uh survey uh response um i think we're at 8 33 or something like that today uh including both vhs and mcmurray and what really drove the the planning from there was that looked like 80 percent uh were wanting to come back to hybrid learning and so what that meant was that we were going to need to create an a b cohort model uh which we'll talk about here in a minute looks like about 40 percent uh choosing transportation by bus which is really really strong and staff surveys staff surveys came back and and really it's looking like the vast
majority of our staff are coming back we don't we have to accommodate a couple folks but we're in the process of supervision supervising and coming up with a plan on that uh we're going to be planning on uh the cohort where the last names from a through k are going to be cohort a and they're going to attend monday and wednesday students the last name l through z are going to be cohort b and then we have a distance only model as well we'll be communicating that out to families actually tomorrow anything more you guys want to add on that you're doing great gus right there is the master of uh create like graphic oriented uh scheduling so let's give a big shout out to gus the next couple slides are really the what it
looks what the schedule is going to look like and so you see a little bit of slight difference between vashon high school and mcmurray vhs the facility is going to is better able to accommodate more students so they're going to go with two lunches and mcmurray is going to go with three lunches that's the essential difference that you see there [Music] anything you guys want to stay on the schedule we have we have 200 students coming in on each of the cohort days yeah and we're at about 135 per per day cohort so that's kind of number we're dealing with so that means about 100 kids per lunch for us okay next slide jody i have a question about the the schedules that because there's some students that attend classes and some teachers that go
back and forth between the buildings and i haven't aligned a bit do they align so that provides for that flexibility yeah good good question um one of the teachers doesn't have a class at vhs fourth quarter so that worked out really well oh nice okay it does um and they'll they'll be able to have like uh the smart home room time in between so so that'll allow them some flexibility to be able to travel so it works out actually pretty it's like tetris yeah exactly and it actually works out we do have students that that will be traveling to vhs for honors geometry and for french class and so the gaps line up really well so the lunch hour where we staggered the lunch allows them the flexibility to travel as well so that worked
out really well it's nice uh coordinating a lot of moving pieces with uh with these guys and so it's helpful chime in anytime if you guys wanna go for it okay this was probably information you've seen before but really um you know explains the cohort model and a little bit about what learning will look like for students both on the in-person days and on the remote days and so so we'll we'll talk a little bit more about that but you know the goal is that we're really working on students making appropriate and kind of comparable progress whether they're remote learners full-time remote or or hybrid learners on any given day and i i will just say a little bit i know there's a lot of questions about that one of the things that we're talking
with our staff a lot about and i'm hearing is they really want to be focused on equity with our both our remote learners and our in-person learners so i think i think we're going to see teachers really on this new model really help help our students in a in a new and different way so looking forward to that next slide jody again these are all gus and his graphic genius here so thanks for looking at instructional model options our teachers are working on planning how they're going to structure their hybrid classrooms and these are some best practice models that we've put together put in front of our teachers as they're putting their individual classroom uh planning together and these are just some some ideas of of what what it would look like for students and
how a teacher might plan those 80-minute blocks of class time it will speak a little bit to this because for the 20 of our students who are choosing to stay distant there is a reasonable concern around what will that experience look like particularly as so much enthusiasm and excitement is behind the students coming in and we um we talked a lot about our distant learners as a staff we've had several teachers bring up that same concern from their perspective of wanting to make sure the distant learner has a good experience and so we're uh what i've seen is that um by saying back up just for a sec as we as we tried to make this transition one that was going to be setting our teachers up for success we created a lot of flexibility
in how they could think about meeting the needs of distant learners and in-person learners at the same time and we really gave we gave a lot of latitude to our teachers frankly like we do all the time around helping their students meet the end objective that is very much the culture of of this instructional environment is that teachers have a lot of autonomy while they have a lot of accountability towards the end the end point for student learning and and so it kind of fit in in our culture to have that same posture in this in this instance what i've seen our teachers do is actually come together around at the high school i can't speak to what the mcmurray teacher's plan is but at the high school virtually all of our teachers are electing
to have um uh what do they concurrent thank you um concurrent learning for distant and in-person learners in other words every student is going to well the vast majority of students are going to have the same experience whether they're at home or in person and they're going to have the same pace and so in other words there is not going to be some lesser different experience for distance learners apart from just what distance itself has on them as i was uh i was really glad to see our teachers think through and and come to some kind of internal agreements among themselves around how this could best play out yeah and i'll just echo that i i think it became more real you know as teachers move into the classroom and and they actually received a
training from andy james who's a teacher at both of our schools and he demonstrated some technology tools that i think is going to make it really really more it's going to be much easier and much more straightforward for them to be able to have that concurrent type of instruction and so i know andy's going to come over to high school tomorrow and a lot of teachers have been piloting and doing some work uh to make the modifications to make that work for for all learners in the classroom so would you describe the uh what we watched when we did our walkthroughs as concurrent so we we did our yeah we did our our walk-throughs uh on monday our admin instructional walks and it was interesting because um for myself i visited uh sarah powell's classroom
and so she had like seven students in there seven or eight students uh in her spanish four class they're all seniors and they're sitting there and actually they weren't when i walked in they were all moving around you know doing some total physical response experiences in spanish and there was a camera on her and so she's being filmed and being projected out to the distance learners and so what was interesting is that rebecca and john they were on her meet as students to understand what the student experience would be like and then i was in the classroom to understand what the in-person experience would be like and we reported out that it was uh in terms of levels of engagement who was speaking you know the conversations they were kind of equal across what was
happening in person and also what we were hearing from you know the kids in the meet so so can the students at home looking on their in their on their computer can they hear those two the student in person questions it you know i would say yes and no right because how close they are to it depends on how well positioned that that computer microphone is and and how well the students in the classroom project the students in the classroom can hear the students at home because the computer is connected to the sound system so we don't i think if there was one thing that we would we're going to try and tweak and pay better attention to is giving that in person the giving at home kid access to what the students in the
classroom are saying that's great that's great though anyway yeah i would just say like on option number three you know it's that's an interesting one you know how do you do a lab uh with both remote and and in-person learners and i actually saw a teacher today doing uh kind of experimenting with the science lab and they had in-person students actually paired up with remote students and they were actually demoing and consulting together and so it was an interesting framework i i thought it was kind of cool to watch and i think as teachers innovate and as they explore we're just going to see the best creativity and commitment to all their learners that's going to come out and all this i really think so i think we're on to the next one jody we
did add i i added a slide it probably didn't get in there we have a lot of communications uh going out just so you have a sense of of that we've all really tried to coordinate our communication out to families really well and that started back really in february and early march we had an initial parent q a session uh march march 11th or 12th um and then we've each had we're planning like friday communications really with families we had one last week i talked about the transition timeline we're going to be communicating out our cohorts to families tomorrow and just kind of a general handbook and overview for families and then we'll get more specific with the communications that we lead into right before spring break and right after spring break i believe we're
also planning next week a i didn't put it in there but a non-resident question and answer session with the washington state ferries and that's on next wednesday thursday thursday sorry about that um and uh we're planning another uh q a session the week before actually hybrid officially begins on the 19th so so i feel like we have we've had pretty good communication home with families and good responses a lot of questions not well actually not a lot of questions but but some questions and really trying to think about not you know piling on too much information for families but doling it out in in chunks so to be able to digest that uh timeline for transition you kind of get a sense uh here for the way we are are planning for mcmurray um teachers
are using their friday sessions to really prepare and train and then on the week we come back from spring break that's really going to be an all remote week for us we're going to bring one classroom per day in for an orientation i know that was a key question from parents and how will we orient students to the the buildings um given the circumstance and given that some of our students have never been in our building right um i don't know if that's the case for vhs i think our eighth graders may have come over once but that was it not much right so so we're we're really investing and trying to orient well and get our students uh trained up and and working on entering the building well do you want to go through
the vhs transition next slide yeah so there is a difference in the two building schedule and it's maybe worth highlighting and it really what i can say is they they reflect the needs of the students and of the staff in both buildings and and greg and i both have worked and gus actually quite a bit has have worked to make sure that the difference in these schedules works for our shared staff and and students so we are going to have the first two days after break are going to be non-student days and dedicated teacher prep days what the students will be doing because these will still be school days is that on monday the 12th they're going to take an interim assessment related to smarter balance so this is a kind of a dipstick test
on how they're doing with reading and writing and math and that'll be for ninth through 11th graders and then on the next day um the ninth graders are actually going to get an orientation to the building um and we're we we're coming up with some potential uh plans for that actually last weekend this week so we're still not sure um if we're going to have them physically come into the building that day or if we're going to do a creative video tutorial for them and then orient them additionally when they come in on their cohort day so we're still finalizing what that looks like and the 10th through 12th graders are going to get an asynchronous lesson on that on that day so those first two days are really focused on teachers preparing doing their
final preparations in their space and then making sure that the teachers feel really good about what the protocols look like so we're going to spend part of that day orienting the staff to how each of the transitions will work how lunch will work how student entry and exit from the building will work and walk through our space together we you know a lot of our staff have been in the building but we've actually had staff who've not been in the building for a year either and so there's there's going to be just a need to get ourselves refamiliarized with with how that's going to work and so then our first student day will be wednesday the 14th and we're going to run our normal schedule it's going to be a normal 9 15 a.m is
the start time and running through our three classes uh including smart and then doing our two lunches and then dismissing at 2 30 and that'll be cohort a on wednesday and what we're going to do is we're going to spend chunks of the day when the new or novel routine happens we're going to spend time orienting the students to that routine so we're going to take extra time in the morning to walk everyone through the entry process and take extra time right before lunch to walk everyone through the lunch process so that's going to be the way in which we orient students is a little bit more while they're experiencing the thing that they're orienting them to and then friday like every friday will be a remote day for everyone and then we think of
that that monday the 19th and we'll then be on a consistent schedule of the rest of the so um danny i'm going to ask the question that i know mead and ella are just dying to know april 12th i see that seniors just run free there are times in this in the schedule in the school year when a particular grade level may have much less responsibility than other grade levels and so it is possible the seniors will have minimal expectations on monday the 12th i'm so sorry to hear that yep college entry prep it has it hasn't happened it has been really happening okay what was the thinking about having uh eighth grade students return first as opposed to sixth grade yeah yeah we we really wanted to bring our our eighth graders in first
uh really as our leaders as our our you know our students that have gone through our system they are they know our school well and uh we want to bring them in space first so that we can engage them as leaders uh in the school and then um kind of progressively you know seventh grade and then and then sixth graders really being new to the building and and we may harness some of those leaders to help us walk the sixth graders through no it's cool like we normally do yeah it just included this this is just a few guiding questions we've really kind of prompted our teachers around you know how how they're going to rethink their hybrid classrooms in terms of classroom expectations you know teaching really explicitly you know how this new reality
is going to be for us and being thoughtful about that relationships and social emotional learning are going to be really really important given our kids are going to be many different places as they come back into hybrid learning and so how are we welcoming how are we connecting with our kids how are we sharpening our equity lens um within their classroom and building those trauma informed best practices in their classroom and then you know like we've been talking about how will they structure their classroom to make sure their remote learners and their in-person learners are moving along at that same pace and both being engaged in a way that's meaningful and making good progress for our students i think that's do you want to say anything more about that piece danny just that we're also
talking um with our staff tomorrow and and the friday after around how to how to help students transition back into the space together and how to help them start to begin to process what their you know this new reality for them has looked like and and integrating that into into their now changing reality so um in other words how will we support the social emotional learning for our students as they re-enter into this learning environment and it's it's going to be you know there's no handbook on this one so we're going to be doing some things initially but then i i i know we're going to continue to flush it out with our students and with our staff around what what do we see as needs and how can we respond but also how can
we do some preventative work on the front end around building some routines for sharing and for processing together and for giving students a space to be able to say or or do things that they need to while they're working this out themselves yeah i know at both schools i i know that we're working to get student voice and to student student involvement to make that new space a reality and give give life i guess to hybrid learning so uh i think that's about yeah it's speaking of handbooks um we there there isn't a handbook but we've tried to create every known possible handbook uh that there is and so this is just a few documents if you're if you're interested in some light reading you can certainly click on those documents and see some of
the work that's been going into this i know at both buildings you know we've got a safety team with made up of teachers and office staff and and paraprofessionals and and custodial staff and and we're working hard to to pull our planning around safety at its at its foremost at the foremost and you know really really doing that deliberately so anything more on that i just would highlight that our safety team is actually the main team that's helping to develop all of our protocols so it has all of our labor leaders from every single labor group on it as well as teacher office staff and admin representatives and and so it's where we're taking all of our like we're planning everything that we've planned about how we're moving students through the building and how we're
cohorting and creating that's all being done on that with that committee and i think that that's i think that's the right way to do it it's been really good and those notes are notes that are shared with staff every week every time we meet weekly we share the notes out with staff and so if you want to get a good snapshot into what the planning processes look like that would be the place to look for for our teams right questions for greg and danny no i have a question the um so it's about 80 percent of the students want to come back in person across the two buildings what's our flexibility around that if there's greater enthusiasm part way through do we have the capacity the appetite to bring in more folks what are the
constraints there yeah um i won't speak for both of us but i know that we're going to be pretty constrained um when when we uh so when we went through even though we had 80 we're going to cohort it doesn't perfectly match in every single classroom and so you know we have some classrooms that we're pushing up against you know where we we view as kind of a you know a number that we don't want to go past and so by and large we're gonna have to say you're locked in uh to to either in person or or remote so do you wanna say more about that yeah it is it is really funky we spent a lot of time balancing the the classes and we have moved some students to the opposite cohort so
there are a few students who are not in the alpha split because we had classes that that cohorted out you know for 20 kids and one cohort and three kids in the other stuff like that so we had to move some people around but it is really challenging and remember we have to keep siblings on the same cohort and we have to make sure that any shared students between the buildings are on the same court and that any move we make doesn't mess up a move in his building and we have to do it across all three of their classes in other words i might balance class a but it messes up class b and so it's just a really interlocked puzzle and so similarly we would say no sorry we can't we can't accommodate
however i know that we would behind the scenes take a look to see if it just you know serendipitously did work and so if we can't say yes then then i think we would uh we would work to to say yes when we can but definitely the answer that the default response is going to be your this is this is it and you can't change cohorts and you can't decide later um because that is definitely going to be the case for the vast majority of folks yeah yeah no that all makes sense thanks for walking through the thought process i mean 80 percent of people wanting to come back is really strong that's really fantastic yeah and frankly we have you know we're blessed with good resources and the ability to open doors and go
outside and there's lots of flexibility to maximize what our capacity is going to be yeah the weather's only going to get better that's correct all right well anybody else have questions before we move on thank you so much for reporting this back and thank you for all your work this is thank you this monumental work so uh that just brings us up to wiaa phase three um i'll just share a couple particulars this obviously has to do with our athletics and um essentially the the physical distance of six feet is the same but in terms of facilities we're able to um to have a capacity of 400 people now in our facilities it doesn't mean we're probably going to see that capacity um but it it does allow us for some increased capacity there the
also the because we're in phase three we can now proceed with indoor sports so wrestling and basketball will happen now when we get to season three and our sports and so with the again the same the same kind of distancing and um let's see yes indoor activities in phase 3 may have up to 400 individuals at an event or 50 capacity whichever is fewer so i don't actually know our capacity for the for the gym i'm trying to think if we've ever had you know that many people you know we probably have between kids and so uh but danny is still going to require our test stations and folks to come you know when they when they come now the hard part is when we have uh competitions like at our baseball field right now
you know when you don't have any you know a particular egress ingress egress now that's not a requirement so right now we're not going to require that kind of attestation at the at the fields but we are still asking for it at the you know at our at our where you have to come through a door so um any questions about that i didn't want andy to come share you know it's it's pretty straightforward that they just increase capacity and and allow for the indoor sports there's still no competitions though for indoor sports um in terms of tournaments those kinds of things i didn't just hear that they're allowed to when they compete outdoors they can compete without masks right yes they compete with their out their mouths very exciting news brand new brand new
guidance about mass came out a couple days ago um let's see uh bob and i attended the island district leadership meeting not too long ago where we had park district cemetery fire and hospital uh bob do you have any out anything that stood out to you about that meeting no nothing really it was just nice i think we all agreed it was nice to have the representatives of the districts all in the same place and talking about our plans and i do fear very deeply for the park district because they are with new levees coming online potentially from king county um they are going to be in a very very bad shape so um we're all um praying for them i guess wishing good things and there's a bill in the legislature to uh sort
of uh deal with the levy issues that they're dealing with so um we're hoping for its passage as well but right i don't know what were your impressions no it was great to hear from everybody we really didn't say too much because we're outside at 590. like bob said at the meeting we were mostly there to listen and have and be available for for folks to ask questions there was a consensus at the end of the meeting that we would be coming back together once we understood where a house bill 1034 was gonna you know was going to land right now it's in the uh ways and means or appropriations in the senate i forget which oh so that's good that it's gone ways and means it's in the ways and means right now in
the senate so it's great that it's gotten that far exactly so um that bill was initially introduced by fitzfitsy hey way to go yep incidentally i bumped into a community member yesterday who attended the meeting virtually okay and was so supportive he's like that is great cooperation and as a you know stakeholders in the community um he really appreciated that the planning and the opportunity for the different groups to plan together and eric eric krein did a really nice job facilitating that night yeah um so thanks for doing that you guys that's the first time that that's i mean that i know of that something like that's ever happened is that right bob that is correct thank you yeah so good yeah and i think i'm not mistaken but i think bob may have originally
planted that that seed and uh so and then tried to walk away from it right and try to walk away from it good luck okay and then a racial equity consultants update right now that we have the the parents and friends or our district ratio equity team that's going to meet on friday we have nikampan and then keisha palmer who's going to come present and to our basically our team and get some stakeholder input and some feedback and then uh spring stephanie and i will we'll make some hopefully some final decisions after getting some feedback i will say that spring stephanie and i how long have we been engaged in screening process how long um losing track of time i don't know months it's been a while so so it'll be nice once you know
once we can actually take some some steps forward and and uh and and make some moves so anyway uh that's that's exciting news uh coming up and then uh just a little bit of maintenance it wasn't in my initial docks but we did have some folks out maybe you saw some trucks some some excavation happening over by mcmurray there was some seepage and i'll let you guys share if you want but essentially there was some root balls and i don't think i'm exaggerating some root balls uh in our in our system the pipes still seem to be okay but they you know the reason why when there's low volumes of water they can go through that root ball and when there's high volumes of water they you know we get seepage out and then into
those uh into that into those bathrooms and you know over by the gym area so uh but good progress has been made i i understand and you know taking it one old building at a time so but uh i'll put you on the spot if there's any questions you want to ask our gentleman over here about that situation uh but because it just came up i didn't put we didn't get into the board docs bob is that a question is that age or design [Music] with a storm drain the the connected the storm drains right outside the mcmurray parking lot are plumbed in there correct del it's a devil's triangle or whatever we call it yeah uh is this all original mcmurray piping is this all the original mcmurray piping my house piping lasts that
long yes exactly that's not bad all right thanks thanks kevin thanks matt uh in terms of upcoming events uh we have fourth and fifth graders back on monday so that will that will conclude kind of welcoming back our pre-k through five uh i know uh we're gonna hear more about our our visit later this this evening so that was a lot of fun but we'll have fourth fifth graders back and then uh then we break for spring break and i will be taking some time with my family during that time but i'll still be available i won't be in the woods somewhere without cell phone i should i should be around and then uh april 22nd board meeting at 7 pm it is our only board meeting in april so i anticipate a pretty full
agenda that night so any other questions for your secretary all right okay okay uh board member remarks spring spring you want to start you down there it's so nice to be back together even with the darth vader syndrome i feel like i'm catching like 95 of what everyone's saying hopefully we can all hear each other but um i imagine you've all read the riptide articles right the kids are not all right three parts that it's being republished in the beachcomber and i guess that's what's really weighing on me right now as we're thinking about returning to school i'm i'm worrying about our students and i think what that really excellent journalistic piece was revealing to us that you know it's not gonna solve a lot of those mental health issues just because we're getting the
kids back in the buildings i think it's it's really exciting but it's also um we don't have many months with them but i was really i think encouraged to hear danny and greg talking tonight about the emphasis on social emotional trauma sensitive and i love that you're thinking about how to engage the eighth graders as leaders and peers to peer support that's so key with adolescents as we all know and the teen site council so and we all had the privilege of hearing the great uh presentation from our our counseling department and what excellent staff and team we have in place but i think i'm feeling this responsibility that there's more to be doing that there's more that we could do as board directors as a community it takes a village and there's a feeling
a little bit of helplessness like what is that um so i don't know i hope that we can really continue the conversation and respond to that article um that those those young people wrote and there's not any easy answers but i feel like you know our island has we've seen what can happen when people are struggling with their mental health and right now oh there was a young girl who died of a fentanyl overdose just two days ago in west seattle one of many so i just don't ever want to see that happening here on our island and so i know that's a big heavy topic that i'm bringing up but um i just want to keep that in our sites together agreed i don't really have any thoughts tonight and i don't even have
a poem so i'm just gonna i just want to express gratitude for all the planning that's going into the secondary schools reopening um as a follow-on to the elementary school reopening and i think we're going to be successful there as well and looking forward to being able to offer that to kids who are ready for it uh i just it's just really lovely to see this place starting to look like a campus again i spend some time walking my dogs here um and then to see kids running around screaming at each other and uh the sports kids it's just really um satisfying and i wanted to you know i wanted to recognize uh the big guy who's driving the ship slade because i know we give lots of deserved recognition to all the staff everybody
who makes it possible but uh you're the guy who's on point and um if it goes bad you know success has many fathers and failures an orphan all right and so um just i just really want to appreciate how i know it's too early to do a victory lap but um just wanted to say thanks for all your hard work and i i hope you enjoy your time off yeah thank you that's appreciated nice uh thanks slade for your comments on support of the asian american pacific islander community tonight that was on my mind coming up to this meeting so appreciate that that's it we'll talk about ces soon yeah uh i don't have anything that anybody has already like i echo my esteemed colleagues um okay so speaking of esteemed colleagues this will be
the last night you're in chairs by the way we will find a way we'll force you to sit up here with us um so did you guys do rock paper scissors and who's going to go first and it'll it'll help us i notice when greg was talking uh if you get a little closer to that mic it'll help us okay um so i just wanted to comment on the student advisory board meeting that we had um ella yeah get closer we can adjust we can we can bring it up too it's called eating the mic yeah i feel like i'm not gonna try that but um all right so at the student advisory board meeting we talked a lot about uh hybrid the hybrid learning and how people are reacting to coming back and i
think it's generally very exciting um i know i've been in one in person class and the level of engagement is just like so much noticeably higher just like how willing people are to ask questions and participate um i know there are some concerns about like uh procedural hiccups like having to wear a mask all day or uh just like general questions but i think everybody's generally confident about them just like working itself out you know the first week will probably be a little rough but after that people will get the hang of it and there will be a scheduled disruption but then it'll calm down and then our my other update is about graduation i know the senior class is planning a prom um i think it's on a boat and there's also like plans
for a graduation parade uh similar to last year um let's see oh yeah my final update is a sports update uh madeleine yorkin who's a freshman i just won the nisqually league championship [Music] that is so exciting it's in the family well done um yeah all right um i think uh what i want to update the board with now is i'm sure many of you have heard um but if not uh ella and i had the opportunity to um meet with a couple state reps um along with dr mcsheehy and tibet and mr allison um and you know we focused a lot on discussing student well-being and student mental health especially during the pandemic and just ways that it can be improved not only now but years in the future and with that meeting we
we discussed a lot but particularly we shouted out the riptide articles that spring was talking about um and i had a i had a significant part in editing those and i i just know the amount of work that the writers put into it um the survey questions that were put out there and it just means a lot to have that article shared not only with our community but even sent out and spoken about to the state government and i think that elle and i both really appreciated being able to speak directly to such a high level of communication or whatever um so with that uh that was amazing um uh uh on top of that with that article um like spring said it's it's been uh published in the beach glomer the the first part
came out last week the second part came out this wednesday and the third part is being published front page next week on wednesday um and so that's really exciting if if anyone hasn't taken a look at that i'm sure all of you have but if anyone has it it's amazing the writers are amazing um so yeah that's what i have to say on that um i had one more observation it was more something that i observed and picked up and i i know a lot of other athletes picked up on it too but um i'm on the track team this year um and with um entering phase three there's been some regulation regulations lifted about when you have to wear a mask now um athletes are able to or they're permitted to take off their
masks when they're practicing or like actually doing physical um activities and they put them back on when they're standing and you know coaches have really been like making that clear to athletes like hey like you can take your mask off during when you're actually like physically exerting yourself um but what i've noticed is a lot of track athletes at least um have been even with that put in place they've kept the masks on and i think if anything it shows that as much as um cobid progress is being made i think the student body is still being very cautious and i think of anything that mindset is going to translate really well into in-person learning and in person school so yeah that's all i have to say yeah good leadership yeah yes um i really
want to echo me what you're saying about you guys that we went to you know we had our in-person meetings with our with the state reps and meet and ella you could not ask for better student reps you guys you were so spot on with your stories about your own personal experiences and then also what you see in the schools i mean everyone always says at wazda and mazza osbo like you know bring your student lead teachers as student leaders in because they're you know they're so much more eloquent and level or whatever i like i wish we could like keep you forever i mean you do have to graduate and you do have to have like your own lives and move on but you guys were so fantastic and it and you were so
genuine it was like you were just like talking to like anybody you were just like yeah so senator nguyen this is what it's like this is what the deal is this is you know and and they really really regret and we really did focus on mental health we only had 15 minutes right yeah and it was quick it was like you know hi how are you nice to meet you here we go and and really we i just i'm so i don't you know i just you guys did the thing yeah so thank you so much on that um anybody have questions any questions for our reps appreciations all right all right thank you well thanks for staying um you can stay as long as you want right or go home or you can go
do homework yes okay yeah thank you okay um a board side visits toby you want to start uh zabet and i visited chautauqua uh earlier this week and that was a really special thing to do you know it's just fabulous to see kids in class engaged and even with the awkward things that were happening uh you know it's hard to to hear every word and the you know the teacher and the kids spread out i could see that they're getting used to it and it was working fine but it it's taking practice and it was kind of cool to see it actually happening in in real life um kids seemed like they're having fun and they're all so serious about what was going on it just was great and we got quite a lot of
insight from john and rebecca and what is working well with you know where there's things to continue to improve and i mean nothing nothing profound that we haven't been talking about but i love the site visits and thank goodness slade texted me about 15 minutes beforehand because i was prepared to just jump on zoom never you know i mean i knew we were going to do it in person but i had totally forgotten so uh that was great thank you yeah it was uh it it was great actually and then i ended up watching the the um i don't know if any of you guys watched the um teachers meeting about what's been working what hasn't been working and it was just fascinating to hear what has been working and how i know amanda long
was talking about how the kids um are more much more that patient and like letting each other finish because that's how they have to have to have been on zoom or on you know on on whatever meets yeah and and i just think that's so funny that you get these kindergarteners who are now you know i'm sure it won't last long but who are just very sort of like you know like i see i know like a seed to my you know to my esteemed colleague on my um left so that was kind of interesting to hear and then like kindergarten i mean um the playground and how because you know how they're doing it in zones so it's become like this thing of like oh tomorrow we're at the basketball court it's like that's
super exciting and like just it becomes much more novel and then um ashley christopherson was talking about how she because they get to go out with them actually risty gill was talking about this too because they get to go out they get to like actually teach the kids like okay this is actually how you play foursquare like this is this is this is how it's played and so now they're like oh my god this is so fun like let's do that again so they're all these little little onions you know unintended not consequences but just sort of unintended things that are like oh that's an interesting benefit or whatever they've yeah and some pleasant surprises where uh staff was concerned about how long certain activities would take transitions you know to to recess and back
and forth and a lot of those things just locked locked down really fast and have been pretty smooth and of course the teachers were extolling the virtues of having only a few kids in the classroom at a time how wonderful that is and eventually we'll be back to crowded classrooms um so it'll be interesting to hear when you have that staff meeting it'll be interesting to hear what you know what mcmurray in the high school end up saying oh those teachers end up you know with their own reflections of like wow they didn't think about that and this is an interesting thing so another uh interesting thing that came up and and one of the questions i asked i i had been reflecting that the chautauqua had this cadence where they brought in the preschool
and then kindergarten first to third and fourth through six or fourth and fifth and how you know is this kind of prolonged runway and at mcmurray and at the high school is going to be you know all all go and uh and rebecca said actually you know in retrospect they probably could have done it much faster they didn't need as much runway as they had built in uh and you know there's so much preparation and and just some of the things that seemed like they're gonna be so hard weren't as hard as they as they were so that was a good lesson yeah yeah meeting and yeah seeing them in person can't wait for you guys to go and have your right there yeah it beats uh google meets it really does it really it
really does yeah anything you want to add on that one no just uh i will yes the the systems like everything is a system and you know and so rebecca's constantly and john are constantly building system after system after system and you think that there's a small procedure that you might just you know kind of flick the switch on but you don't realize you actually need to go back and build a spreadsheet to do you know like so the distribution of lunches was right way harder than expected right right four lunches that's much harder than when you have like 400 yeah anyway because of that it was just it was just kind of interesting to hear uh but not not out of the ordinary um you know they have the minds to do it yeah
but i think it's one of those that kind of on the outside you don't understand you know you have this picture kids come into the school but you know just like we saw in there in your slideshow you know how many handbooks and guidelines and protocols it just goes layer after layer after layer player so it's it's mind-boggling love seeing the kids though they look awesome yeah and watching uh miss calhoun uh you know play play the jump rope play the jump rope game yeah um okay so uh moving on matt sullivan thanks a bet um provided to you is our regularly scheduled uh monthly financials through february or we're at 50 of our year we'll take a look at the dashboard first then we'll go into enrollment through the first part of march specifically
we see expenditures at about 43.9 percent because obviously we're in a pandemic and we stopped kind of normal operations as of march last year i took a look at where we were the expenditures for last year and we were 48.6 so 43.9 this year the same time last year we were at 48.6 so you kind of see the lag in regard to expenditures and as we know we've been discussing for months with revenues we're at 43.3 percent and of course this is 50 percent of the year so overall we are moving along as we have been discussing uh throughout the last year to six months overall looks pretty good any questions on that all right we'll move on to enrollment through the first part of march and i like to take a look at the
enrollment data school the middle table and we compare looking at our schools february to march um overall we're down by two fte and specifically at chautauqua they actually gained to fte and specifically those two games were from a family that moved up from california that's a good thing mcmurray stayed the same at 345.7 ft so no change there the high school we saw a loss of 2.62 fde from february to march and in regard to where they went as we're tracking that as much as we can there was one early graduation we had a student move to port angeles and then one with drew and as being homeschooled and then lastly link had a loss of 1.38 and that was due to early withdrawals is what the explanation was from thomas so like i said
overall a loss of 2 fte and from february to march so before one thousand four hundred and twelve to one thousand four hundred and ten the overall average um we're down 32.14 fte any questions on that so not great but not bad so the i'm sorry the 32 revenue loss um we got revenue yeah about ten thousand percent you're looking at 320 000 but we have other revenues coming in from the correct cares act and and so could you uh overall give me the snapshot of what where you see as being year-end uh we'll be uh year-end roughly we'll discuss that um later in the meeting but we're estimating around a little over seven percent of fund balance about 1.8 ish million which is not bad and we're seeing that because of yes there's there's
losses like in food service but savings in other areas such as utilities etc but also the esser funds that are coming in the federal funds we had the first round last year 121 000. this year it just opened up a few weeks ago round two is 470 000 that we have access to and we will scratch and claw for every dollar there and we just got a heads up that there's around three coming thanks this most recent approval from the federal government of the estimate is a little over 1 million for us as a district i don't think we'll see that i think the state will take their share of that but i think probably 700 600 700 000 is a safe guess for that okay anything else i know matt you're not going far
because you'll be here talking again soon but for this round of the matt sullivan show do we anybody else have questions you're good good okay thank you matt for that thank you first part um okay moving on to discussions uh resolution 791 this is just for discussion this is not for we're we're not going to approve it but first rate right this is the first read the second read will be in april uh this waiver is very similar resolution 791 is a resolution as a waiver very similar to last year last year the waiver allowed uh us to work with students in a good faith effort to help them meet all the graduation requirements however we were able to provide different avenues to waive the testing requirements and we were also able to waive two
electives so taking the 24 credit uh diploma down to 22 and this is again last year and then those who weren't able to meet the sba requirements there were several pathways for them to to meet those what this waiver does it expands on that it maintains the two electives it also maintains the graduation the testing pathways the way the waiver for those but also expands it to include two core electives the core electors can't be in one subject so you can't you can't wait two english or two math but you could weigh one english and one math credit or science credit or social studies credit and uh again this isn't something that we are essentially we're not advertising it you know we're not asking students to try to meet the bar here we're still holding
the bar here but through weekly conversations and i mean weekly that counselors and admin are having they come together as a team and look at you know all their students but focusing with the seniors and they will work with them and their families to ensure that they're in position to to graduate this year this does end august 31st of this year and so it is just for this year i don't know what the waiver situation will look like for next year i don't know how many students we're going to have this year but danny said that you know they're actually they're using the same uh forms and everything and so they're beginning the process and i'm going to say beginning the process even though the board has not approved it yet but we are right
now you know we know who the students who could benefit from this we're still going to support them and try to you know get them uh to pass their credits uh you know as as as we would like them to do to get a 24 credit you know diploma but we have a little bit more flexibility this year because of those core because those core credits so and once we know how many i'll probably uh update the board probably sometime maybe in late june or july in terms of how many you know participated in that waiver process we had this uh last year too right we had the last year except it was uh it didn't include the core credits but essentially uh the the laws are the same in terms of electives and testing
requirements okay any any discussion questions at this point this is just a first read all good i'll ask the board to take action on it in april okay okay great uh so moving on to the salary review matrix i know you don't get to see matrix that often in your in your board documents i get to say it out loud so um this actually the matrix actually applies to to um the classified salary minister administrator's schedule but it also applies to all the all the groups on the uh including myself actually added myself uh it was requested that you know i think was that you spring who would request it yes so i'm not sure i don't think we have maybe updated it in here essentially it's it's providing some stability and and financial planning
around how we we move through salary adjustments and so the idea is that we would uh calibrate the our non-represented groups on a three-year on a three-year cycle and so this year is our classified administrators and i believe i sent out a doc earlier um and i think uh yeah i think i said it earlier it showed you kind of i originally believed that adjustments were made in 1617 and it was actually michael made the adjustments right before i got here in in 1718. um so that would still that still keeps us on a on a three-year cycle so next year would then uh be guess i could pull it up i'm so reluctant to put on my glasses right now because i can't see in a couple seconds but it won't be hard so
then actually next year we we do the whole host of of all of our bargaining units and the admin and then after that we go to district office staff and then back to classified administrators so it does provide again some some stability and planning and then employees understand like okay here's here's when my you know my uh when i'm when i'm gonna my salary is gonna be reviewed in the in the comps et cetera so using the same process um but and then with that you can see um these last salary schedule that the class of an admin were on and the this year's um and i can tell you that one of the one of the things that we see different in the classified administrator salary is that we had two program directors or
directors of programs that were originally in our district office staffing schedule and so i pulled them out the food services director and the alternative learning director pulled out and placed into this schedule it is more appropriate that they would be in this schedule rather than in the district office staff schedule and so what you see is a seven percent increase for the director of technology the director of facilities the director of human resources and the director of business and operations because the move to the salary schedule for our director of food services that position is a 15 gain and then the position from the uh the alternative learning is a 10 percent gain and then the business the business director is a finance yes finance director uh when we approved her uh that position uh
her move is is just 2.7 percent so i'd book a mini i'm just giving you the the straight so all this all all these percentage increases were driven by uh analysis of comps you know so um and we're still probably a little below average on all of these uh comps so um but i think um did i describe it as fair i think that's what i did describe fair so um they're they're a very valuable um you know asset to us and i'm gonna be this is a first read and i'll be asking the board to take action on it in april okay any discussion about this or comments or thoughts i guess i'm interested in understanding more about and this is long term not now um the comps the process how we arrived at
the comps um and and you and i can talk about it offline i just i don't unders i just want to understand sure sure absolutely and i can meet with you or we can yeah uh toby you got anything i'm good there's a so i just wanna do one more prank sorry please yeah so i forgot to lead with um you know as as as we've seen over the last couple years um with mccleary and teacher salaries and besp salaries and seiu salaries the guiding principle has been to attract and retain you know the most talented staff that we can that we can have supporting our kids and and supporting our systems and so i've applied that philosophy to to all the all the groups and so that's i just think that's important to note
and so and then applying the same comps process hopefully this the same level of communication and consistency and reliability the other the other philosophy is that what we what we need to do as a as a district and what i recommend doing is taking small steps every year rather than you know really tiny steps and then all of a sudden you have to make a big step and so um you know if you take a look back in that in the document that i sent you earlier to the board you know sometimes you'll see like big steps and big steps and big step and what that's telling me is that what we weren't doing was trying to you know take care of you know those comparisons and bringing people along how they how they should
be brought along so um just let you know that um you know i think we will see larger well fewer what we should if we're doing what we should be doing i think they're in the correct way is seeing fewer you know in this third year we want to we don't want to see you know big big steps we want to see that we're taking care of folks so that when we have to make a move it's not a oh my gosh you know because i think publicly that can look a little disconcerting and when you're trying to you know you're trying to bring salaries up to you know comparables um but because of what's been happening in the past you know you have to you had to make a significant move and last year
i mean when we made seven percent with our certificate at m team um that still did not get them to average so it was you know kind of um but but i think you know we are are making progress and that's what i want to continue doing all right i appreciate the uh the the goal to make it smooth to to support planning the long-term both the cadence of when they happen but the process and using similar processes across the groups it makes it uh way more predictable for longer term planning and in retrospect uh yeah you don't want you don't want to be facing those big hiccups in the system because they're hard to plan for they're difficult to explain people are left you know with a bad taste in their mouth so this
is definitely the right process right and i and i and i think i mean i just feel i feel like this word is used a lot but i think this makes it much more transparent like especially the matrix is very like this is when everybody's you know and obviously that may change depending on how the negotiations go right with those cbas right but i think this is this is this strikes me as very healthy so i appreciate it yeah okay and of course before i move make any decisions i always run it past our business folks to see you know what what are the impacts going to be so yeah so yeah yeah what could you what what are the dollars and cents fifty one thousand dollars you confirm that i don't trust him [Music]
i'm not sure he's done the math oh really well i i didn't i should i trust you then i did the math and asked him so it's 51 000 okay and also i would also want to add that we have an amazing team we have a phenomenal team yeah we want them to know that they're valued and compensation is a really effective important way there's other ways to reflect that but i think behind that is what to me it's the message by creating this i think people really prove their value when they're in when we're in faced with a crisis and i think this team has really carried us through the most challenging year public school has ever seen in this country so in our little corner of the world while that was definitely a
bumpy ride like it has been for everyone i think this team did an excellent job of allowing us to have school and have it be meaningful experience and be cohesive and so you should definitely reward people who can deliver in that under those circumstances as well as under the normal circumstances so which uh gets us beautifully into 3c the 2021 superintendent contract addendum so the the timeline on this is that the board will take action on any addendums to my contract at the april meeting so after my evaluation uh in the last meeting bet and i then worked together on the addendum um and actually toby as well because of our meetings and so what i'm presenting is an addendum that has an increase of one percent into the 403 portion of the contract and
raising my base salary by 3 percent and then i am asking and would like to extend the contract one more year and keep this rolling keep the three-year contract rolling okay um i know that we've all talked about this and you know we've all we've all had a chance to look at this and think about it so are there any comments about this now again this is a first read okay all right and i echo that what we said about the admin classified and certified goes for you we've been very lucky to have this team this year um okay 3d uh matt sullivan slade did you want to touch on any of this it's you and i but i have the two documents from the budget just you and i uh i don't think that
the singing is appropriate at this moment thank you doctor that's the jukebox uh no matt all right um so as we move along our budget journey and calendar here we have two pages from our budget uh specifically a page most likely page 24 and that's our summary of our 2021 2022 operational reserves or our beginning and ending fund balances this is kind of our first crack our first look at any numbers from our budget mind you the legislature is still in session they will be in session until mid end of april april 22nd or something like that and so we won't have really hard numbers revenue data from the state until that april hopefully 22nd meeting or at least the first one in in may may 13th but we can get a pretty good estimate
of ending fund balance so in specifically uh the numbers in bold for 20 and 21 is actual beginning fund balance for general capital debt service asp and transportation and then you know myself and k we go back and forth and back and forth and we do our best estimate for ending fund balance for 2021. once again there are no revenue and expenditures or transfers for the 21 22 because we don't have those numbers yet from the state but we do have a pretty good look at the ending fund balances and to your question bob in the general fund we're looking at a 1.88 million ending fund balance and that's roughly about 7.3 percent that's what we estimate the cap madam chair may i ask a question oh yeah yeah yeah thank you for your process
um capital yes capital projects fund 8 20. could you this is that's money that is not left over from the previous bonds could you could you walk me through the yeah capital like we started here without 2.4 million to finish off you know basically the maintenance building that was the money there to pay for that you know revenues and expenditures as you look through 2021 the only actual obviously is their beginning balance this isn't a mathematical equation that is to say beginning plus revenues minus expenditures and or operating transfers doesn't give us the ending fund balance because those revenue and expenditures numbers are just budget estimates at this point um that said you see like there's expenditures of 4 million that's our estimate you know almost geez a year ago when this number was produced
for the previous budget uh we were taking a guess as how much would we need to finish off the maintenance building any other capital projects and we need to have a little bit of you know capacity cushion if you will just in case that said we have our operating transfers of 1.4 million that is our cap tech dollars going from capital to general and then we have an ending fund balance of 820 000 that will be remainder reserves but that being said we won't know that number that that reality that actual for seven months until next october we have our kind of year-end actuals and budget report in front of you so these numbers are are there's capacity there they are a best guess if you will okay don't like using a best estimate if
you will uh but that's that's how it works out how it shakes out so the transfer from general fund was um planned and expected and not unusual bob what did you say i'm sorry that the plan from from capital to general was yeah business as usual yeah yeah exactly that's right thank you matt you're welcome and then kind of the fun page we put this and developed this page these probably five six years ago and it's evolved and we've added things to it um it goes topically with your island district leadership meeting this is our vatican island property tax rates for 2021. i received this data from the assessor's office of king county and um the first there's three sections to it the first section is the breakdown of kind of where your tax dollars
go to on vashon island um i was taking a look at last year this year last year we had 11.59 per thousand of assessed valuation for a total rate this year we have obviously 12 dollars and 40 cents and kind of the largest as we all know on vashon increased was due to our hospital district at 59 cents secondly is us due to our cap tech levy increase and that was roughly as i'm looking at my data here to it we went from 30 cents to 46 cents on our cap tech levy most everything else roughly stayed the same state schools went up by about six cents and then sadly due to prorationing or erosion is another common term the park district has dropped by four cents because they are a junior district and then
the middle section historical and current levy rates um from 2014 to 2021 we have our bond our cap tech our epno or enrichment or formerly our m o levy um and from 20 to we see our epno go from a dollar seventeen to a dollar twenty we see our cap tech 30 cents to 46 cents that's an obvious in regard to our increase in our cap tech levy and voter approval and our bond uh you know has the amateurization schedule that piper sanders put together they try to keep it as level as possible a dollar 23 to 1.22 to keep that fairly steady as the course of you know the 20-year period that we pay off our bonds and then lastly at the bottom is our historical actual collections and just a good picture of
how much we collect year-end actual for each of those the bond the captec and the epno i do enjoy this document and i want to throw that in there it's a great great piece any questions that amy can answer [Music] it's a work of art it's a work of art it does make me sad for the parks district i gotta say that's just and that'll be page 19 in the budget okay okay how many questions thank you no questions at this time excellent okay thank you matt that's a lot of work and we appreciate all that that goes into it you're welcome um okay the consent agenda uh do i have a motion to approve it moved do i have a second second okay i'm gonna abstain because my spouse is part of it so
um true uh good call all those in favor aye all right sorry sorry we don't do we get to make comments because i can't i just i wanted to announce i'm officially getting old when my youngest sons two of his classmates are now coaching i know i just saw the the two rivas boys and kaylin cunningham so you're not getting old congratulations i'm getting old this is my youngest kid by the way okay uh besides bob getting older all those in favor aye aye aye all right uh it passes uh any new business i have something that i'd like to introduce as a question or a comment the um we got an email and it was probably a email that went to every board director in the world but it talked about sensitivity cultural sensitivity
relating to our school calendar yeah and and i think that we've been pretty good about looking at the calendar and seeing where it falls against different cultural holidays or celebrations i think that's probably a wise thing to to do either to i don't know how what our current process is but it seems to me that's a smart thing to do so we could if people want we could talk about it later board meetings as well don't schedule board meetings on yom kippur we have done that in the past we haven't been careful in the past no we've been terrible so anyways board meetings as well yeah so this calendar it was helpful and um and jody and i have done some analysis on it and for next year and um it doesn't look like we
have any well we haven't set the board meetings for next year so that's good but our calendar there's a few things that we have some questions about to work with the principals but nothing significant right now um but the it was nice to get to have that resource yeah good reminder i know we're not going to be able to hit every right now things don't always line up perfectly but when they don't then we can acknowledge it and you know recognize it instead of yeah be like oops that was a surprise so yeah absolutely um okay yeah thanks so much for bringing that up anybody else got new business okay well uh do you have a motion to adjourn a movie adjourn segundo oh you didn't vote oh i don't want to vote okay sorry
oh all those in favor of your journey i don't feel like you're worried no i never do this i'm not sure you take motions either i can't remember otherwise the meeting would go on forever why would you not have an option that's true okay i think we voted right yeah you do need a motion to adjourn otherwise the meeting would go on for all right we did all right all those in favor why are you arguing what i think okay we've got lots of things to find all your jokes are so funny they're not nearly as inappropriate
