All right, let's call the meeting to order at 6:00. Regular board meeting May 18th. Roll call. Scott? >> Here. >> Andrea? >> Here. >> Uh Britney? >> Here. >> John? >> Here. >> Myself are all here. Announcements. We have committee as a whole meeting on June 1st, and the next regular board meeting would be June 15th. Can I get a motion to approve tonight's agenda? >> I'll motion. >> I'll second. >> All those in favor? >> Aye. Any opposed? All right. Approval of minutes from April 27th Board of Education meeting. >> I'll make the motion. >> Second. >> All those in favor? >> Aye. Any opposed? Okay. Treasurer's report. >> Beginning balance was $1,048,486.53. Total deposits were $105,473.24. Total expenses was $438,175.83 for an ending balance of $715,783.94. And the local government pool balance is

$2,581,717.51. >> Can I get a motion to approve treasurer's report? >> I'll motion. >> Second. >> All those in favor? >> Aye. Any opposed? Expenditures. Can I get a motion to approve the expenditures? >> I'll motion. >> And a second? >> Second. >> Any questions on any of the expenditures listed? >> Yep. Uh so, I saw and here we have 12 Acer computers. And I I was wondering kind of getting to the end of the year, so why are we >> he starts to purchase them now because he has to go up there and set up a bunch of stuff during the summer. >> Okay. >> them ready for the school year. >> That That's That's been routine. >> Okay. These are just kind of life cycle replacements. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> All right.

I mean, there's enough of them up there to like probably at least 30-something years. >> Okay. >> Anybody else have any questions at all? Okay. All those in favor? >> Aye. >> Any opposed? All right. Nobody for student council. Committee as a whole report. Um you can look at the agenda. I think we were all here for that one. Yes. >> It's preliminary. >> Yep. May want to discuss anything from that at all? If not, we will move on. All right. Eagle's Eagle's Wings Charter. >> We've got the minutes from that. >> Yep. >> Uh budgeted expenditures. >> So, Christian is our new director or director. >> Um >> What's that? No, she is a Yeah, a new board member. Yeah, sorry. >> Oh, just a board member, not the >> Yeah. >> Oh. >>

Yeah. >> I just saw a new board director in the front there. So, she's just a board member. >> Yes. >> So, um just one thing to kind of think about since there's the there's no longer grant money to be um dealt with um and everything financially comes through the regular board, do do you think we still need a liaison from the regular board for Eagles Wings? >> Uh I would have to take a look at the bylaws. I I would say it's probably wise simply because they have some conversation and and having a liaison there can provide some thoughts and guidance to the board, but also can bring back more information. >> Okay. >> You know, to the regular board, so. But I can check on the bylaws as well. >> but it's just

something to think I've done it over the last year or so and I I'm not sure what the value is continuing or but if it's something we need to do, that's fine. Any other questions on the Eagles Wings? Treasure? Okay. Athletic director, extracurricular. >> All right, so we'll um touch base on all of our spring sports. So, track and field that actually starts their um cool season starting tomorrow. Um they have their conference championships over in Ashland. Uh next week they will have their regional meet and that will also be at Ashland and then sectionals will be a week from Friday Um, the 29th and then state will be 6th of June. Our girls won the indoor uh conference championship uh back in early April. So, they're looking to um repeat in the outdoor champs

as well. And we've got a couple of um runners that will certainly compete at the regional sectional level. And if they move on to the state meet as they did last year. Uh softball, um that record is now out of date cuz they've played a couple times since then. Um but they they keep winning. So, um they are I believe 18 or 19 and two now and they're playing again tonight against Chetek. Uh Clayton, they're currently losing that game in the last update, but they still have time. So. Um but they won at least a share of their sixth straight conference championship. Um they'll try out for an outright conference championship um tomorrow at Flambeau. Um their seeding meeting for them was last night. They actually got a number one seed and they won't play

on the 26th because they have a bye all the way to the championship game. So, they will play the regional championship on May the 28th. And then their sectionals are on two separate days, June 2nd and uh June 4th. And the finals will be at Blair-Taylor. That's where the sectional final game will be to go to state. And the state tournament is in Madison uh June 10th through the 15th. >> How do they get a bye all the way to the championship game? >> They only seed a half section and there aren't as many softball teams. And I don't know if one of them decided that they weren't going to participate in the postseason because I think that that happened last year. They just said >> Yeah. >> to shut it down. So, because they

got the number one, they got the double bye and play the winner of Prairie Farm and Drummond. Those are the That's the team that they will play. >> Okay. >> Um baseball, we're actually now eight and five and six and one in the conference and we're in the same boat as softball. If we win tomorrow night, 8th, will be have our 6-3 conference championship. Um for us, our seeding meeting is Wednesday night, so we'll find out where we are seeded. Um but our regionals are the 28th, June 2nd, and June 3rd. And then sectionals this year is June 9th at Bruce. And then the state tournament is June 15th through 18th, again in Appleton. Um it's hard to believe that we're already at the talking about full season cuz spring sports go so fast, but

here we are. Um just a update on the WIAA annual meeting. There were two amendments that were up for approval. Both of those passed. Um so now the advisory council will go back to being advisory in in nature before uh since 2021, um any amendments had to pass the advisory council first and then go to the board of control. Now that step is kind of taken out of there. Advisory council will advise and um the board of control can go ahead and approve that part before it goes to the membership. So that is streamlining that process a little bit. And then um they did remove that language that applies to new coaching hires, so you could have a coach that had um coaching contact with the players that they will coach before the season started,

like in the summertime, and you could hire that person as a coach. Prior to this, if they had any coaching contact prior to that, they would essentially be ineligible to coach those those athletes. So they took that provision out. Um and then um the board during the um committee of the whole had some questions regarding Bound. Uh I did reach out to Bound and their responses to those questions um are there. So at what threshold we needed to have the the digital ticketing open. Uh essentially the gentleman said we just have to have it open. It doesn't need to be utilized um by all of your customers, but um it has to be an option for those or people to choose it if they want. And then we can certainly still offer those passes as

I mentioned as as one of the ways to be able to use it. Um but then the ticketing fees are down below. So, under $10 which most of our game tickets would be, there'd be a 90 cent surcharge onto that and then anything above that is the 90 cent plus 5% of whatever the total Um I did the rest of the schools in the conference were kind of talking. Right now, there are six schools that are going to go with the ticketing package and try to save the 50% on that. Bayfield is the only one that says that right now they are not going to do that because they have some other software that they use for the facility management piece because again, that's what we get with the pro side of Bound is we

get the facility management piece and we also get the online registration piece um with pro. Bayfield said they weren't going to go that route. Uh Washburn and Hurley are the two other schools that I don't they haven't really tipped their hand as to which way that they were going to go. So, six out of the 10 right now are saying that they're going to go with that as the option. >> So, do we have to buy a reader or is that come with >> Two readers are provided by Bound. So, we're not in any infrastructure that we have to do other than we obviously have to know how the whole system works. So, there will be you know, it's something that we don't there'll be a lot of learning curve that we'll have to figure

out how all this whole process is going to work. It'll be I mean, for me it'll be a new system as well. So, >> Are they going to have a rep or something that'll run somebody through >> As as far as I know, the the gentleman that we're dealing with um has already met with us once as a conference and walked us through some of the pieces. I haven't asked him specifically like are you going to come and show us how to use the meters, but like he is our representative. So, if as a conference that's something that we ask for, my guess is that we'll get him back up here to be able to do something like that. Any other questions or concerns with the bound piece? >> I don't. >> Um the last

two things our awards program is on Wednesday. That starts at 2:00 um and we will go through all of our um athletic awards as well as academic, music, all of those pieces. So, that will start at 2:00. Um and then membership renewal is up as it usually is, although I think Mr. Oakley did you actually approve that and send that in so that is is all good. That is all I have unless you have any other questions. >> Real quick, what why did we go with the 2:00 the thing again? >> Um we were having a a real difficult time with trying to schedule another event in the evening on in the spring time. Okay. And so we talked about trying to do it during the day. That would alleviate one other evening um to

try to fit that in. So, we also did have an issue with we would invite a bunch of students to come and then they they wouldn't show for that event and it was kind of a difficult piece when you try to give awards to kids and staff members would come in the evening and try to give awards to kids and they weren't all there. So, this will be the second year that we've done it. Again, nothing is is set in stone. If it's something that we need to revisit, obviously back in the day we used to do a whole meal involved and you know, that kind of went by the wayside especially after COVID. So, um there's nothing says that we have to do it one particular way um but that's that's where we're going

with it. >> Have we gotten any feedback from the parents? >> Um, uh there were a couple that said that, you know, they wish they would have been able to come, but I didn't it it was like I said, I want to say two people who had had a little frustration that it was during the day, so. >> It wasn't a overwhelming piece like we got to have it in the >> Okay. >> Yeah, I mean, it's a trade-off. You do it in the evening, you lose students. You do it in the day, you know, some parents can't attend, but >> And especially in spring with trying to do co-op sports across two sport across two schools and concerts and all all of those pieces to try to find a night that that works. We

did do it on Wednesday evenings and, you know, we got some feedback that that maybe wasn't the best evening to do it as well. So, what we're, you know, obviously we can't you know, not every party is going to be happy with whenever we do it, so we're just trying to find what what will work, so. >> Sounds good. >> All right. Thank you very much. >> Thank you. >> And you are up. Principal's Report. >> Yeah. Um, well, towards the end of the school year here, we're just kind of wrapping things up, so it's a little on the light end um this time around, but um just some recognitions. We had our sixth grade crew go to Wolf Ridge um this last week. Um heard a lot of positives, so I just wanted to,

you know, thank Mr. Glassmaker, Mr. Tarbox, and Mr. Dickinson for the planning and the supervision um that they they put into the whole trip. Um and then just thanking the high school graduation committee. Um we've been meeting monthly since January and just ensuring that um well, in a in addition with our senior advisors, um just the amount of work and planning that has gone into the upcoming graduation events this week. So, we're in the home stretch for that. Um super excited. Um I just have some upcoming events listed. Uh so again, as uh Mr. Olberg said, we have our athletic and co-curricular awards on Wednesday, which is also the um Wall of Fame induction as well. Um we have our Eagles Academy showcase on Thursday that evening, and then all of the the senior stuff.

So we have our senior breakfast um and graduation rehearsal on Friday, and then ceremony on Saturday. Um and then in June we have our Montessori crossover program happening June 4th. Um then kind of getting into our summer school stuff. Um so just additional some upcoming continuing work. Um in the process of working on our elementary report cards. Um end of year AGR reporting has been completed and that'll be on the next meeting's agenda. Um and just buttoning up some of those items and then with the new superintendent coming in um kind of finalizing some of those things. Um and then staffing updates, we have the special ed teacher position still currently open. >> What time on Saturday are we here again? 11:00 this is Saturday. >> at 11:00. >> Starts at 11:00, so we need

to be here at 10:30. Or earlier? 10:30 should be fine. All right. Thank you, Anne. Pete, you're up. >> All right. So a couple different things we have going on. Outdoor classroom placement so Eagles Academy has done the outdoor classroom fixtures along with the sun shade and I'm reaching out to a few different businesses that can bore 16 16-in diameter holes. Not everyone has that. So anyway, so I'm working on that piece to get it set. Um as Anne mentioned, the uh elementary report card work um really trying to get it uh very consistent across the when we're when we're talking about Montessori, but then also uh our traditional classrooms, you know, based on on standards, and uh the objective is to have that all ready at the start of the 26-27 school year. >>

So, how does standards-based grading compare to letter grade? >> So, with the standards-based grading, it it actually lists out the the standard and how far they are in progression to meeting that standard. Versus a letter grade, it it goes off on percentages. No, it is not. It's it's looking at proficiency in that standard. Versus I mean, letter grades, it works well in middle school, high school, elementary it it's really hard to get that percentage of this is where they're at versus looking at the specific standards and and they're excelling at this standard, but they're not excelling at this standard. >> So, it will it will be like a short narrative or not a percentage or >> Yeah, it'll be a short narrative in there. And like I said, it'll go through are they at the

beginning, are they are they progressing towards that standard or are they mastering it? So, they're they're in the works of that piece. >> Okay. So, when a parent looks at that, they'll I mean >> I That that's the objective is that it's going to be more user-friendly so that parents know exactly what they're working on. >> Okay. >> So. I know. >> you think most parents know what a B is? They almost know what a D is. >> True, but it doesn't necessarily list out what the standard is. Like, what is it that they're that they're not doing well. So. So, that's the objective there. Um so, recent legislation, I know you I know there was a a big announcement about a bi- bipartisan budget package that was was on the 11th, and it was

going to invest over 600 million into uh K-12 schools. And um and it was going to be at the largest increase in state special education reimbursement. However, Wednesday last week, uh the Senate at the last hour decided to not approve that. Um measure that had been worked out. Um I know that um was a Senate message really trying to encourage us to reach out to our senators and push to uh have them come back to the table and try to pass this. It's It's not just for schools, but it's also for tax tax property tax relief. So anyway. >> When does the legislative session normally end? >> Um it's pretty much done now. So this this last session was a special session, and they had that opportunity to do another special session before summer. >>

Okay. >> Um we'll see where that goes. So >> Don't hold your breath. >> Ha. Roger that. So um ACT scores, uh just have a listing there. So um there was a slight concern. ACT sent out an email, uh and I copied it from from their email. So um school districts and superintendents received the following communication from ACT. As a part of our continual evaluation of scores, we have discovered a need to reissue scores for students who took the online test this spring during school day testing. This needs This need relates uh to an update to the process used to ensure all test scores are fair and accurate, regardless of when and how a student tested. So there isn't We We really haven't gotten a good indication as to what caused this. I I know

that this year was the first year that science wasn't included in the composite. So, I I don't know if that was part of this issue, but they're they're trying to reassure everyone that everything's fine. Everything's fine, but I Yeah, so just know that this this is a message that we received and and those test scores were going to be re- reissued, so. Um and there's been no further communication since then, so if anything else comes up, I will for sure let you guys know, so. Um some things that we're working on handbook, trying to get things aligned in our professional support handbook. Um that is up to speed with the recent changes in some of our policies. As I mentioned before the meeting, we had a few policies that went through and we approved I

believe last month and and and it was in regard to Act 57, which is the the new policy regard or the new laws regarding grooming. Since then, we've had the legislature pass further legislation that went further in defining what that looks like and requirements for school districts. One of those requirements is annually we have to provide training for our staff on the requirements for communication with with students. Um and also a requirement that volunteers coming in have to have training on this as well, so. I know DPI is supposed to put out a um templated training plan for districts. I'm not sure when that's going to be, but just know regardless if they get it out on time or not, we're on the hook to to provide that training for our staff and and volunteers.

So, I know that was something that that we were talking about as as a CESA 12 group with uh um a a law firm um in Wisconsin talking about this and it's kind of interesting the the the stuff that we really have to stay on top of. I I think we can manage the training piece when it comes to staff, but when it comes to volunteers, I'm wondering if that's going to be a more challenging piece and I think everyone recognizes that. Um another issue, you know, in a small close district like this is there's a lot of blurred lines and and how, you know, how do you clearly define what what that looks like. So, anyway, so we're going to be working through that piece um as we move forward. So, All right. And

then math essential standards uh that will be uh on the agenda for next month for approval. So, good. >> Thank you, Pete. All right, at this time we will entertain public comment. Anybody? Nope. Okay. Then we will be moving on. Recommendations, personnel recommendations. Two resignations. Did you already Did we already accept one? >> Uh there was one that was accepted, but it's just >> The other one. >> that's it's documented on here. >> just need to accept the second one. >> Right. >> That is correct. Can I get a motion to accept resignation of John Bass as Spanish teacher? >> A motion. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> Aye. >> Any opposed? No donations? >> We did not have any donations listed for this month, so. >> All right, Bound management platform athletic management

path plat Yeah, y'all know what I'm talking about. platform >> We'd need a approval to accept the platform. And whether or not we want to do it with the pay option or not. >> That's a separate determination of if we're going with the basic or if we're going with the >> pay. >> Yeah. >> I'll make a motion to uh uh go with the Bound Pro program. >> I'll second. >> Any discussion? Okay, all in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? All right, then we're done. Uh Dean of Students We kind of went over this on Monday. Um the previous Monday. Just need to have an approval of the job description. >> I'll motion. >> Second. >> Any other discussion on it? All those in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? All right, we're done.

Has everybody had a chance to go through the first readings of policy updates? >> None of these are affected by what you were just talking about before with modifying >> They are not. >> Okay. >> They look There is a lot of changes the communication device personal communication device I'm guessing in regards to the legislation that's coming down but It just looked you know like okay there's all this stuff crossed out and I got it figure that out. >> I had to check. Yeah, no you're you're right. It was it was the passage of of the first bill which was limiting it so it was not allowed during instructional time. But then I I know that we had started a couple years ago that we would not have those devices so anyway but this good

is trying to get it cleared up as far as meaning the intent of of the law and our practice so. >> Okay. Okay. >> And then subsequently that will be clearly defined in the student handbook that we'll discuss at a later meeting. >> Yes, ma'am. Yes, ma'am. That's that's the objective is to have the student handbooks in July. >> July. >> Okay. >> You know what? Thank you. >> All right, do you want to consider a motion to approve these policies? >> I'll make a motion to approve that packet of policies changes. >> Second. >> Any other discussion? Okay. All in favor? >> Aye. >> Any opposed? All right, school support organizations. >> I apologize I won't kick out as many policies after this. It was just a a number of groupings here. Once again,

most of the basically all of these are financial in some fashion. And that's where we and I went through these by the recommendations. >> Yeah, none of these are these are all just kind of minor things, right? >> That's pretty major, I mean. >> And then you have to change from freezing to a single word. All right, could we then may want to consider approval of these policies? >> I'll motion. >> I'll make a motion to approve >> the second packet of policies. >> Second. >> All those in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? >> Okay. >> Open enrollment numbers. >> Jack. >> So, I Um this is just for for your preview here. Uh just where our numbers are. Once again, open enrollment. Um these are the applications. That is not indicative of being

approved by the accepting or gaining uh district for those going out. And for both of them, um it it isn't a locked in they're leaving or going to a different district, if that makes sense. So, these are just applications in and out. Just giving you guys Can I say that? >> Um is is I think I had talked about this before sort of doing an exit interview. I mean, do we know why >> Is there of these You know, a lot of them are look like families why they're out rolling right. They're rolling out. >> Yep. >> And that's um You on on the application there is usually an indication of why they're they're departing. If it's if they already have family there, that's one thing, but if they're departing, that that's that's our priority

to call and and to find out exactly what what the reason is. >> Yeah, I mean if there's something we can address or fix, change, um that's not you know, not too out there. I mean, it might be worth >> Right. >> You know, we usually have a pretty good balance. This doesn't look as balanced as in the past few years. >> Right. >> And once again, it's it's applications. I I I know that some of them on the out applications I've already had conversations with. >> Okay. >> So Um but I I know this has been a practice in a previous life that we would make calls and and talk to people. >> Okay, good. As long as we're making an effort to try to find out why and if there's something we can

alleviate, um >> Mhm. >> it's worth the the effort. >> Sure. >> All right. Moving on, daycare refusal bill. >> Sorry, refuse, refuse. >> Oh, refuse. >> Sorry. >> No, that's okay. >> So, I've already been charging 10% of the garbage bill to the daycare. The um auditors just wanted us to have it in writing to approve it. >> Oh, right. >> Mhm. >> Can we get a motion to approve the garbage bill? >> I'll make a motion. >> Second. >> Any other discussion on it? All in favor? Aye. Aye. Any opposed? All right. Well, can I get a motion to convene in closed session pursuant to the Wisconsin Statutes 19.851c to consider employment, promotion, and compensation performance evaluation data of any public employee over which this governmental body has jurisdiction or exercises responsibilities. >>

I'll make a motion to move in the closed session. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> Aye. >> Any opposed?
