001Let's get through a couple other things. Um, can I get a motion to approve our meeting minutes from last uh February? >> Motion second. >> Okay. All those in favor? >> Any opposed? Okay. Motion carries to accept the approved meeting minutes expenditures. Lean's not here. So really I guess if there's any question on expenditures, we can save it for the next uh regular board meeting or committee as a whole. Um same with treasures report. So we'll move on from that and let's go into our first item on the agenda is legislative update from Representative Green. >> Hello. How are we today? >> Good. How are you? >> Good. So, I wish I had a little more news to tell you. Um, but tell you what I know. So, we are currently negotiating with the governor
002on a property tax relief package. We're hoping to have it wrapped up about three weeks ago. Um, we tried to draw the end to our session in the assembly by and and with that trying to force everybody to the table to negotiate. We call our ball. Here we are. So, We've been in negotiation with the governor the last three weeks. Uh we're working on a package. We have a $2.5 billion surplus in the state right now. Um of course the biggest concern was a lot of people after uh December when they received their property tax uh information. Uh everything went up. So we've been hearing a lot about what are you going to do about my property tax related with governor? We have a proposed $1.3 billion property tax relief package put together. Uh currently
003200 million of that would go towards special education fund. Uh 450 million this is where the property taxes would kind of help lower property taxes. 450 million would go into general school aid to lower levy request and 550 million would go into the school levy tax credit. So that would help uh again that would alleviate property tax, you know, when it comes to everybody who's paying at this time and it will also make schools self-sufficient when it comes to special education funding. Um, I apologize, I don't remember the number, but I want to say we're shooting for 45% this year. >> Yeah, that was 4 42 this year and I think 45 next year. So, of course, when we did those numbers last spring, >> those were based on the numbers we had prior to
004the year. Now we come to this cycle and we're oh here we're only shooting at 38% I think we're at. So the governor's request in this negotiation is that we make that some sufficient. So again that's why the 200 I think 200 million in special education uh would be going to the school district. So that is what we're working on now. I have a 7:00 phone call to discuss all these things with my caucus. So uh we are still in negotiations. Um, we will, from what I understand, have a special floor day coming up. I was thought, I was told it's going to be tomorrow. Um, so I might be headed to Madison shortly. I don't know more after seven, but that's currently what's going on right now. But I said it will help you
005guys a lot. Especially with people calling complaining about property tax, complaining. This would alleviate a lot of that. Plus, it would make us sufficient special education. A lot of help in the long run. Yeah, that's kind of a little update there. I don't have all the information on other school funding, but if you have any questions, feel free. I'm here to answer. So, on any other legislation that's coming up or passed or maybe in limbo, >> right? >> I I think the the only other one that's that's really being considered is is uh mobile device use uh during the school day. because I know it was passed that during instruction time, but now we're looking at the bell to bell. Correct. >> Correct. And of course, it probably won't happen this session. We had a
006uh oh, I forget the author's name. He wrote the anxious generation. We had a caucus with him. He came and spoke to us and he uh he educated. We had it was joint caucus, senate and assembly. He was very he's written a handful of books that um but these these are our problem right here and getting them out of kids hands so they can focus more on education in class. Um it was very telling and very convincing. Um I have been on board with that since the beginning like I didn't have I'm old enough to not have I didn't have a cell phone in school. So but uh nonetheless uh yes we will be looking at that legislation. There's some push back again there's some my colleagues that definitely believe you know that but the
007end of the day we want kids focusing on school so that that legislation will be coming next session what it look like is time will tell but I don't I don't question that we will be pursuing it recommended by a lot of people who have studied it >> yeah I'm a believer yeah that'll be coming down the road So the property tax relief is that to relieve the I mean is that directly affect the portion that goes to a school district or or is it just general property tax relief? How does that >> so it'll buy down property tax relief and it'll be ongoing so that'll continue going forward which will alleviate it'll make more room for referendums and things like that. Um when it comes to allow more allow more room for uh lower
008request that just buys property tax. >> So that'll like it'll alleviate some of the burden that's on taxpayers right now which again will make referendums and things like that if you need to go to referendum. If you need more money go we'll be buying down property tax which Yeah. >> Special education. >> Yeah. I did pass a piece of legislation this session just to make people aware of it because I learned about it in Solen Springs. I was knocking on a door two years ago and I ran into a family that had valictorians that graduated from here and they weren't eligible for a $2,500 grant for validator. Most class sizes over 70, you automatically receive that if you're validictorian. If you're under 70, you got put into a 10 school draw. We just simply remove
009that. So any validator now is eligible as long as you apply for them which is previous practice anyways >> and that's the state scholarship >> correct merit scholarship. So yep that they can use it towards any school uh in the state of Wisconsin tech schools whatever they want to do with it but >> so that's in effect now >> that has passed. Yeah, that uh it should go into effect. >> Okay. >> Awesome. Awesome. I know that that was a big that was a concern of us, you know. Um you know, we have students that perform very well and >> yeah, having having to get into that dilemma if we don't have the numbers. So, >> well, and day $2,500 make where you're going, but it definitely is some reason to stay just as equally
010somebody in a school size of 80 or 150 or whatever it is down state. system all the schools came >> well like I said I will know more >> probably in an hour but uh as things progress I can We can definitely keep you in the loop as things move forward so we can spread the word and be aware. But yeah, hopefully we will come to some type of agreement in the next few days actually and get that done because the Senate I know is wrapping up this week. So we are hoping to have one issue that we have ran into is the Senate would like to see some type of tax re but it's a one time thing. that I kind of know reuring which would yeah go on continue to keep the property
011taxes low. So those are some of the things that we're working on but hopefully leadership has been negotiating the governor and the senate the last couple weeks. So hopefully they come to terms I will know more. So, I apologize. I didn't have all the information today, but we didn't expect to be going, >> right? No, it's it's gone on much longer than than anticipated. So, >> you know, time, you know, makes better suit. >> Yeah. you know, that that makes sense because and it's good to hear that that we're looking at trying to keep that recurring thing because I I think uh the the school districts that take the hardest hit are the small districts where where we've seen that property tax increase jump, you know, and it's just harder for us to to manage
012that. So, >> absolutely. So >> all right questions, concerns, comments, Carson will direct you to me and hopefully I'll >> Thank you. Thank you. Appreciate it. >> Okay, next item is committee of the whole report. So since since we didn't have a committee the whole report rule. >> Yeah. So we'll skip that one. >> Um Eagle's Wings Charter School update. I don't see anything on there. >> Just had the the minutes uh from from the meeting. >> Okay. >> Um not nothing tremendously significant to report there. So All right. >> Athletic Director Nate All right, so just kind of wrapping up our our winter. Um, girls won um their second straight conference title, second straight regional title um before falling to Webster in the sectional semi-finals. So another great season for them. The awesome thing
013for them is that they will return everyone next year. So we um continue to expect good things from from their team. A great season, but we're again we're hoping to um get over them next year. So um boys basketball. They finished um their season in the middle of the road in the in the conference. Um they had a home playoff game where they lost to Pure Lake who ended up being the regional finalist um in a close game and they only lose one player from their team as well. So Isaiah is senior. So we should return a lot of our our basketball players next year. So that'll be nice to see the development on both of those teams. And then uh middle school volleyball other winter sport that's going on. They finished with six and
014two and four and four records. And so now we're already in spring. Track and field. They had their first week of practice in last week. Um we've got I think there's 10 athletes and I think that's up to six Northwood athletes. I guess there was a kid that showed up on the first day that they weren't expecting from Northwood, but it's all good. So um so they're up to 16 and then their first meet is this Saturday up at St. Class. They've got a couple of individ um softball, they started practice today. Um and there's about 16 girls, 17 year olds participating on the softball side and their first game is scheduled right now for April 2nd. And for baseball, pitchers and catchers practice started today. Um and we've got about 24 um people participating
015in baseball. and our first meeting is scheduled for April 2nd as well. Of course, >> um I don't believe that those um positions were confirmed at the last board meeting. That's correct. Um on that front, >> um and then from the sportsmanship summit, we worked during February on having a QR code for um kids to kind of check in and try to boost attendance. Um we did have um that went fairly well. Um, I think some of the kids ended up saying, "Oh, yeah, we kind of forgot about it." So, at our last meeting, we brainstormed ways to kind of remind people to to scan in and check in. Um, and we're going to continue that once we get outside. So, we're going to have some codes on the dugout and remind kids to scan
016to come to those games and encourage that participation. >> So, what do they do? They scan the QR code and that just automatically will do what? >> Yeah. Yeah. So, they get a form to fill out that says, you know, who is playing in that game. We put in what are the uniforms of the team that they're playing because the the QR code is active all the time. So, we tried to put some small things in there to um date stamp it and have someone have to kind of prove that they were were at the game other than just walking by the hall and scanning the code and, you know, adding their name to the list without actually being to the game. Um, and when I looked at it, all of the there didn't look
017like there was any extra scans that were that were in there. Um, so we we had it was a good start to this process and I'm hoping that with springtime we'll be able to kind of encourage more people to come to games and >> and then and what happens when they when you tally up QR codes. >> So what we did was we decided that we were going to give away a couple of gift cards. We gave away three gift cards to three of the people that ended up coming. That was kind of the number that we decided as a test club. Um, and so we picked those winners at our March meeting right before spring break. And so I got the gift cards and I have to hand them out today or tomorrow. And
018just a way to kind of encourage people to to show up. So, >> um, is that it? Um the only other thing on my report is the high school awards program and that's scheduled for May 20th and last year we did it during um the afternoon and that seemed to go okay so that's what we're planning on. >> Okay. So can you tell us about what happened with the WIAA looking at you know the merch rookie thing h how that all unfolded and I because it just seemed to me that I I didn't see the violation. Maybe I'm missing something, but if you can kind of >> Yeah. So, I was contacted by WIA's communication director um that um the post that was made would be in violation. Um it was sent to them by
019somebody. I don't I don't I don't have any, you know, they just forwarded me the message. I didn't I didn't know who the message was from, but they expressed concerns that this was um an issue that we we've talked about before with you have a private business which has our students in uniform and the business is posting it. And then the connection would be that because it's our students and our uniforms that the business that's posting it is getting benefiting from having our kids in uniform connected to their post. >> Okay. So that's why the it was brought to our attention that it needed. >> So do does the telegram and the local news stations get a pass on that because they're businesses too. >> That's a media thing. So I I mean I it's
020specifically I mean the the constitution of a private business can't benefit. >> I mean the only reason I subscribe to the telegram is to see the soul and some of the coverage. So if they didn't you know that's you know they're a commercial entity too right? So I I don't know why what the difference between them and >> yeah I I don't I mean I I can't speak for the WIA bylaws and why why it's okay for for media but not okay for this entity. I don't I guess I don't I don't know specific. >> Yeah because our students weren't benefiting. No, but their concern was that our students were being used as a possible benefit for any company that would have them essentially they're linking those two entities together. >> Yeah. >> In uniform
021and that um they could benefit. This came up uh when our boys went to state because uh National Bank of Commerce donated a whole bunch of stuff and I said so we would like to do a post thanking them but because it was National Bank of Commerce would get the >> goodwill benefit of hey we're posting this and now we we posted a thank you but didn't have any of our players in uniform. That's really the >> difference from the brand. We thank them but not connected to our actual team inform. >> So there's a local business that posts pictures of our students sometimes in soul and gear or in the building with a product from their business they've given and that's okay. >> Probably not. And and that's I mean it it's the hard
022world of social media because I don't think any of the companies that are doing that are doing so because They're like, "Oh, I'm want to profit off of this." >> Right? >> But >> whether whether that's I mean WIA doesn't look at whether whether the business makes any money off of it or not. I mean, they they have to make it kind of black and white. So, >> well, so since the WIA only exists because of its schools membership, I maybe I don't know that we need to be in the vanguard, but somebody needs to I would think do a little push back or clearing this policy up because it just it didn't make a lot of sense to me. And to have them tell us, well, you're if you don't get that down immediately,
023uh, all your players are ineligible. I mean, we didn't need that like the day before a game or >> No, but imagine if we would have if they would have got it a day late. >> Yeah. >> You know, and then it's out there and then we end up for having to forfeit because our you know, so yeah, I mean, did I want to deal with it? Did anyone want to deal with it when it happened? Of course not. >> Yeah. >> But I >> to me it was easier to fix it then >> than to go to the team and say, "By the way, turn your uniforms in. We're done for the season." >> Yeah. and because of a of a social media post. >> Yeah. Well, maybe next time you go to a
024WIA meeting, you know. >> Yeah. And and I know because I I have conversations with coaches all the time like it's just so gray because one thing seems like it would be a absolute no and they're like, "Oh yeah, you can do that because of this part of it." And yeah, >> I I know just in my years of doing this WIA, >> I think it's making an effort to make things a little bit more clear that because you there's 400 and some schools in the WIA and obviously many of them are part-time athletic records like myself and we don't have all the rules, you know, memorized inside and out and how, oh, well, this picture looks like this, so that's okay, but this picture looks like this and that's not okay. like >> it's
025a lot to try to navigate and and that's why I mean I give W some credit too because they're like you can fix it then fix it and we're not going to we're not they're not >> advocating for to punish people right >> but you know they have to also play by the rules that are set I mean they don't make the rules the membership >> right the membership does so >> they're but they're also in the capacity of like well if there's a violation then they have to address it >> yeah Okay. Any other questions or for me? All right. >> All right. >> Thanks. >> Thank you. >> Good luck with baseball this year. >> Okay. Uh principal report do >> Yeah, I mean it's just a few things on there. The the
026big thing um March 6th, that was Friday right before break, we had the uh elementary math and reading event. Um, great way to cap off or to cap Dr. Seuss week and reading and whatnot. Um, 65 parents and guardians and 14 sessions or activities and uh, no, it was a it was a great event. So, um, looking to continue that and have it as a yearly thing. It's just any anything that can bring families in and, uh, have that collaboration cooperation is awesome. So anyway, so just a hats off to to Shannon and Karen for really working on putting this back together. So uh another thing uh is the CT continuous improvement planning. Um, one thing that we're trying to get better at is capturing some of our our career and technical education pathways a
027courses because all of that uh could benefit our uh our students as far as credentials or uh dual purpose credits as well as those pathways. Anytime you have kids that are taking courses that are pathways, it's money that comes back to the district. So that's that's what we're trying to increase and keep working at. So um and then upcoming events uh the the season for statewide testing is now awesome. Yay. Um so that's going on. Uh next week we have the preACT and the ACT on Thursday. Uh and then the the forward testing that's scheduled by the teachers to get through all those testing uh units. So, um what else? That's that's a lot of what we have going on here. I know we're trying to wrap up uh the uh the essential standards for
028math so we can get that uh knocked off our list as far as getting it to the board for approval. Um and then um also work working or continuing to work in our um multilevel systems of supports uh for academic and behavior. So that's what we've got. >> Our enrollment total is that down slightly from I thought we were up over 308. >> Yeah, there's Yeah, there there's uh always some movement that occurs. I know we've had a couple that have gone homeschooling or homeschool recent and then I don't know for much for transfers. Couple. Yeah. >> Yeah. So just a couple. Yeah. So >> okay then next item is superintendent report. >> Outstanding. So, just getting into this. Uh, so the concept design development, we're continuing to work on that. I think we've we've
029really gotten to a good spot as far as potential uh updates and and whatnot as far as uh the concept is looking at. Now, it's it's really trying to discern, you know, what what is it that that uh we can move forward with and trying to put numbers and costs to uh the different options. I know we're going to be meeting again on the 31st to go over some of that stuff. Uh we've got some different worksheets uh through bar. We've got that product. So, just plugging in some numbers to get some projection on on uh overall revenue and what that's going to do going to referendum, what that will do to our uh to our uh student expenses and and our our overall budget, but then also taking a look at the numbers from
030RVA and Market and Johnson and see what these different options are going to cost. Um so, so we have an idea. Um >> are they putting an op three options together or how is that how is that >> right? They they are not they're they're taking our lead. So coming together and having a discussion on what makes sense as far as the three are concerned and and taking a look at different components maybe you know maybe we don't need that um you know because it's a more of a want than a need you know so that that's the the next step that we have to really start looking at. So >> okay and that so that's the 31st at 3. >> Yep. And they will be uh present here at the school too. How how
031much time are we budgeting for that do you think? >> I would say an hour, an hour and a half. >> Okay. >> Tops. So, >> because we might be back >> I don't think we decided specifically on a date with Nick again, but >> Roger that. So, >> 31st or the first. So, but that'll be a little bit more in the evening. >> Okay. And and we we can certainly work through that stuff, too. So, >> Okay. All right. Um other things that we have going on on April 1, we've got uh Nancy Linman coming back in providing specific training for our special educators on monastery and how to work with our monastery team. So looking forward to that uh component. So I know that's been expressed by a number of staff members understanding
032how does special ed fit into the monitory program and work effectively. So that's that. Uh, as mentioned previously, statewide testing. Yeah, we're in it to win it. So, um, so all the way through April, we'll be getting testing done. Okay. Um, and wowers school board election that is on April 7th, coming up very quickly. One thing I definitely need to make sure is um we had a couple individuals that expressed uh withdrawing. Uh but unfortunately your your name is on the ballot, right? So there there has to be some kind of communication out you know as far as you know your intent so people know that you can vote for me but I'm gonna turn this down. So >> long, >> right? I know she did reach out to me and I said I I
033wanted to wait until after this meeting to give her a little more information or whatnot. So in case there was any change in verbage. So >> would the dis would the district put anything out or I I don't know if that would be >> it. I mean, we we can have some just saying this is what's going on, but uh it I would I would hesitate from getting too involved. >> Yeah. No, I I I agree. It's probably not an area that we need to touch, I guess. I don't know. >> Right. And that's all I'm doing is giving the facts and that's truly it. So, >> yeah. Okay. Anyway, and then just a reminder also with with the elections, um we come back to the regular board meeting and that's when we have to
034do our realignment of the board as far as Yeah. positions and whatnot. So, >> Okay. Uh next item is public comments. Are you here for public comment? Come on up. You take it, Linda. Or >> Yeah. >> Um >> Okay. Um before you get started, uh Beth, >> so generally you have about you have three minutes. >> Okay. >> You can say whatever you want. Um try to keep names out of uh out of it. Um and then it's not a question and answer thing or anything like that. It's just your opportunity to um state your piece for three minutes. >> Okay, good. >> So um I have um started to sub a little bit here and when I'm out on the I noticed when I first came like three weeks ago, the gate was
035wide open. I think I mentioned it to and anybody could come. That's a, you know, safety. >> The road gate. >> No, for the parking lot. >> Okay. >> Was wide open and I I mentioned it to somebody and then it was closed because I was thinking of security and anybody driving in and um and so I am curious of what security is and have to be revealed to me. But I have purchased a device called a burner B Y R N A which is a non-lethal defense weapon and um it can go like 60 ft. It's very powerful and police departments are getting these so that they they can stop somebody but they don't kill them. And so I just am presenting that as I don't know what is if anybody's armed here or
036not. That's not none of my business. But and I didn't bring my burner in because it's a device, you know, I get in the car and um but so anyway, it's good. It cost me $600 by ya. Anybody can go on and research these. It's a good alternative to a lethal device. And so that's was my introduction because I don't the school has. But if that were I would think that that would be more um conducive rather than having a lethal device. The pellets are just plastic and it's so powerful it can go 60 feet and it causes it hurts. Really hurts when somebody gets hit and they're out of it for about 30 minutes and and so that's time to you know stop somebody and and it can be carried um you can just
037carry you don't have a have to have a license. Um I found out I called the guardian gun place in superior and it's re it's not required for people who have the burner to be trained but it's recommended so that um I would have to go through a 4hour training just like to conceal and carry training but I think it's a wonderful option you don't have to kill anybody and if some kid gets a hold of it um somebody will be hurt but not killed And it won't go through walls when you shoot. It just falls back. So that means you don't have a I mean it's it's it's safer. I don't know about guns myself. But anyway, I'm just presenting that for somebody to research and say, you know, we can get like three
038or four of these and have one and and and I've got a little holster. Oops. And it's easy to carry. >> That's fine. >> Okay. Thank you for coming. >> Yeah. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Okay. The next item on the agenda is personnel recommendations. Yeah. So, the the two recommendations are the the coaches that we had seen previously, but uh noticed that we didn't take official action on it. So, >> I'll make a motion. Second. >> All those in favor of the hiring. >> Any opposed? Okay. Motion carries to hire the two people on there. We're track. >> Okay. Acceptance of donations. We had uh one from Michelle. Um yeah, I'm not gonna try to pronounce that. right off hand. So, sorry. >> Anyway, so yeah, just the material, yarn, and sewing items.
039So, >> okay, great. We just it's we don't need to officially accept it. It's just >> um it is an acceptance of those. So, a motion second. >> All those in favor? >> Any opposed? Okay. Motion carries to accept the donations. Early college credit start college now. Have a few applications on there. Already had a chance to look through those. You'd >> be surprised if they give you credit for that. >> That's concerned. Yeah. So now that's where I would say we probably not do that because we offer PE credits. So we would not be covering that component. So >> okay. the other three credit uh intro to academic writing. We would approve that recommend that. >> Yeah. Okay. Okay. Any questions on any of the other items in that first packet? And if there's
040some question, we can come back to this in April. I know that the big thing is trying to get these applications to us in a timely fashion, which is indicated by laws March 1st, but then um the schools don't need it right away. So everybody's getting an intro to psych. Any questions on the second packet? Go third. Start college now at Wisconsin Technical. encourage some of these kids to work on their handwriting to better help the board read. The last lady actually typed hers out. Very nice. Okay. Okay. Can I get a motion to approve the applications minus the one class that we had discussed? >> I'll make a motion to approve applications. >> All those in favor? >> Any opposed? Okay. applications are approved as discussed. Uh board of canvasers for the April election.
041>> Uh just putting that on there just knowing that we have to identify uh board of canvasers. I know that Linda manages that piece. So >> um just want to make sure that we have that covered. Yeah. So >> So I've done it a couple times, but I won't be this time because I'm on the ballot. So anybody wants to step forward. They can coordinate that with >> Linda. All right. >> All right. First reading of a lot of policies. Hopefully everybody's had a chance to take a look at those. And I was figuring that uh we I know there's there are quite a few here. Um, and I would say that the 35.1 policy updates, not as concerned, but more so with the act 57 policies. That is a an extremely hot button in
042Wisconsin right now. Um, and that we we need to have some priority on on those um on those policies there. So uh and what that's referring to is the uh um 1213 uh 3213 4213 and then 8462. Those are the four that go along with the act 57 which uh to spell it out. Act 57 is the uh law regarding um uh grooming students for um yeah exploitation. So we'll have those for approval in our next regular board meeting. >> Absolutely. >> Okay. So, so yeah, if if no action is taken tonight, next step. Yeah. Okay. Uh so we'll Yeah, we'll get those on the agenda for next meeting. um fitness and weight room usage policy >> check. So, taking a look at it, I honestly I was not able to locate something in writing
043on our fitness and weight room use. And um a staff member and coach came to me and saying, "Hey, my kids are being told this, but that's from this person and they're being told this from someone else." and there's nothing consistent about how students and athletes and community members can access this and what are some of the parameters for it. So, this is my first draft at at this component uh trying to come up with an idea of how this can operate um so it's it's very clear black and white. So, So the only thing I'm concerned with and this is based on past practice uh is access by community members. >> I know that's been curtailed and what I mean where are we with that now? >> Right. So, so, um, this goes back
044to a couple years ago when when it brought the walking the hallways thing, just saying that it has to be after hours. And so, uh, in my mind here, if if we have teams that are utilizing that facility, community members would not be present there. But, you know, I I would say that they would still have to come in, sign an agreement that they can use it and uh would it be able to access it when the doors are open, the front doors are open? >> So, generally like when our our custodial staff is here in the evening, but when they're not, if they're done at 9:00 at night, >> that's it. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. So, because we we do have a way of of the FOBs being um programmed, so it'll open
045the fitness center, but it will not open any of the exterior doors. So, >> okay. >> Anybody have any questions, concerns on the proposal kind of? And once again, it's it's not that we need an approval right away, but yeah, we I feel like we need to have something in place. So >> So this is saying that it doesn't necessarily need to be super like staff supervisor. They can go with a buddy system. Am I reading that? >> They No, but what with the buddy system is they need to have a person there with them. So >> yeah. students. That's correct. Okay. It's somewhat dangerous to do some of those lifts by themselves. So, that's that's what it's referring to. All right. If anybody has any concerns or wants to add or question anything, um,
046we can take a look at it. I mean, does anybody have anything now or >> I think we might just language on that. under the supervision and access in the future. Okay. >> Okay. But yeah, everything everything else on there makes sense. We don't want kids going in there with or anybody going in there with sandals or okay consider passage of that. Next board meeting, right? Okay. Next item is school trip distance restrictions and approval. I think this was to we're looking to clean up some things or Yes. So, >> um I I know that we did have a discussion previously about um stuff that was in our handbook. Um in our handbook, it had mentioned going out of state and that that's where I was really questioning this and the fact that out of
047state is an extremely short distance relatively speaking. And it's probably better for us to look at more of a radius um and how it pertains to like a school day. In in my my thought process here, if if a bus leaves with a group uh at the beginning of the day, goes in route to their location, do their thing, and then get back by the end of the day, that that should be fine, right? But if it goes beyond that, that's where I'm thinking you need a little more approval because there there's more at stake with this. So anyway, so just trying to think of different uh things with this and then also clearing up in in the handbook were talked about overnight stuff in the senior trip, but it didn't talk about overnight in
048the regular field trips. So just trying to clear up all of these pieces. Um, I I think one of my recommendation is wasn't necessarily by miles because if if you're on 53, which you can travel at a higher rate of speed, you know, you you could technically go further in the same amount of time that you travel on something else. So, I was considering maybe we should look at like a time, how long does it take us to get from this point to this point? just create that radius. >> Yeah. >> But I mean not saying we have to do that. We can we can curtail it to mileage if we want but >> to earn >> or like outside the normal school day hours, >> right? >> So I mean Deloo out of state
049but it >> there's so much there and you can see there and back with no problem. Right. And I guess that's my thoughts. >> Right. I Yeah. And it's just my recommendation. Any any overnight stuff would have to come through the board. So Okay. So, I don't know. It's something that we want to take a think about a little more just as far as location duration. I mean, however we want to spell it out, we can. >> Yeah. I I Yeah, I think if we just any overnight trip >> is going to require board approval. It really doesn't matter how far out they're going or anything. I mean, there might be some event, you know, in Spooner. I I can't imagine why you'd want to stay overnight there, but you know, something not far that
050you could get there and back, but but for whatever reason, you know, maybe it's a a evening and then a morning event or something, a competition or whatever it is, >> um that that makes sense to uh require an approval for overnight regardless of distance. But >> I think you're saying over administration >> for some of those smaller ones that might be a little bit wonky. >> But yeah, if if it's I guess my my my concern is the those trips that are not overnight, you know, what kind of limitations we want to have. Is it simply that if it's out if any component of it is outside of the regular school day, do we want approval here? If that makes sense. So >> well other than a sporting event I mean what >> right
051sport sporting events it has its own separate thing >> I think if they're going down to the cities and back I mean some of those times are going to be after school hours what age is that >> yeah check and that's that's why I put some of these locations on there just to give an idea of mileage what that looks like uh because then and that's what I was saying with with some of your access corridors you can go at higher rate of speed. So it's >> but I mean because everybody's every parent's going to have to do a permission slip for something like this right anyway I don't know but we need to tack >> um board approval on top of that as well. Well, just just for the I guess that's why I
052just wanted to get an idea of what what the board wants on this and and that approval level. So >> So once again, I mean there's nothing pressing this instant. I know we did have that event a few weeks back that >> raised some of these concerns. to administration first. >> That if it's super concerning, it'll be >> sure and that's however we want to handle it and and put it into a good handbook. >> Yeah. >> Well, yeah. Because then there I mean there is more to it than that because then it's we're paying shaper rounds and paying boss. So yeah, I I think the overnights probably should get border approval, but >> yeah. >> So, okay. Well, we can put that on our next uh one as well if it's not pressing. Okay.
053Next item is nomination and appointment resolution of NWSA and NSDT. >> All right. So, u the these are definitely pressing. Um I know that Leanne has been the res the representative and the delegate for this uh for these entities for a number of years. Um excuse me. And it would be the recommendation that she continue in that capacity. >> Okay. Where are they meeting or is it >> uh generally these meetings are online. >> Oh, okay. So >> um yes, there would have to be a nomination approval. >> That is Oh yeah. Okay. I get a motion to approve Leanne as the representative for those two entities. All in favor? >> All in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? Okay, motion carries. And Gary will be our rep on both of those events. Okay. Next
054item is superintendent job description. Okay. So, uh, just, um, I know that one of the last things that I'm working on here are some of the job descriptions, um, that we have for a number of positions. And one of them that came up was was my position. And it took a little bit to find it, but then I found it, and it's definitely not the same as the policy that we have stating the superintendent job description. So I guess what I've produced here is is paper form of what that job description is uh so that we can utilize it and send out and it matches up with actual policy. Okay. >> What was there anything in particular that that conflicted or >> uh it was just a number of different things? Yeah. A lot of
055wording um >> and other things that didn't quite align. So >> Okay. >> Right. Can I get a motion to approve the newly drafted uh job description? >> Second. >> All in favor? >> Any opposed? Okay. Motion carries to approve the superintendent job description. All right. No further open session business. We can move into close session. Can I get a motion to go back into close session? >> Motion. >> Second. >> Those in favor? Okay. >> Any opposed? Okay, we are in close session.
