Okay, I'll call the meeting of board education meeting January 19th to order with roll call. Scott >> here. >> Uh Carolyn >> here. >> Britney >> here. >> John >> here. Myself. Brad is here. >> All right. Announcements. Next committee as a whole meeting will be February 2nd and our next regular board meeting will be February 6th. >> Sorry, 16. It's been a long day. Sorry. All right. Um, can we get approval of the agenda? I'll make a motion to approve. >> I'll second. >> All those in favor? >> Any opposed? >> All right. Uh, can I get a motion to approve the minutes from the December 15th board of education meeting? >> I'll make a motion. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> Any oppose? >> Treasures report. Okay. Beginning balance $5,51048. Total deposits
$638,166.35. Total expenses $556,378.77 for an ending balance of $87,2986. Local government pool balance is 2,24,818.15. >> Can I get a motion to approve treasur report? >> All motion. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> Any opposed? Expenditures. Can I get a motion to approve the expenditures as presented? >> I have a motion. Anybody need any questions answered on it? >> I just had one cell phone for that for a year or six months. >> Any other? >> All in favor? I >> I any opposed to the council report committee as a whole minutes? Anybody have anything else on that they want to discuss? Eagles charter update meeting minutes. here on Nathan, you're athletic director. Just have several small things uh here in my report. Uh so we've got three seasons going on right now. High
school girls basketball, they're at a 9 and2 record. They're in first place um in the Northern Lights Conference. Um high school boys basketball is five and six. in the conference right about in the middle of the pack in the Northern Lights. And then middle school volleyball started at the beginning of the month. Um they had their first game postponed on Friday due to the snow that we got. Um but there's a lot of girls registered to play. So 23 girls across sixth, seventh, and eighth grade. So that's where we're at with our our current winter sports. Um we did have a coaching reg resignation. McAdams resigned from his positions as assistant track coach and um middle school and middle school cross country high school assistant coach. Um so we thank him for his um years
of service to our district. Um as far as the leftover coaching positions for this year, um we do have now a head track and field position and an assistant track and field position to fill. I did get a um an applicant for the head track coach late last week. hoping that um we'll be able to approve that um at the February meeting because that track season starts right away March. So I'm glad that we have somebody I hope that we can get an assistant coach um to be able to fill in um as well. Um but then the positions for um the cross country position and also that that football position are also posted currently um hopefully be filled in fall. Um just an update from the uh sportsmanship summit uh s club. We met
at the beginning of January and the one thing that the S club wants to work on is improving the attendance of our own students at games. Um so they are working right now on a plan as to what type of reward system we can get for students to um kind of check into the game um and maybe a drawing or something that you know just a little reward for kids that are are coming to our game. So they're working on that. Um our next meeting is we we meet the first Wednesday of every month. So our our plan is to have something in place that we can execute for the rest of February and then um see how that transfers over into our spring seasons. So how critical is it uh the the u game
fees that we get from students? How critical is that to the athletic overall athletic budget? >> I would have to defer to Leanne on that. >> Goes back to the general fund. It's not our admissions the last couple years has been general. >> I I don't know if the test club or whatever is considering making any recommendations on what we charge students. Um but maybe that's something it's not a big impact financially on the general fund or whatever. >> Sure. >> Yeah. We we haven't really talked about that because that's you know that part is kind of out of our realm of you know can we offer free admission you know that's you know but I understand where you're coming from >> your decision or athletic department or is that WA regulated >> just for
playoffs is >> yeah WIA regulates for the playoff games that we host here >> we've not increased ours what other schools are charging? >> Well, it it varies. Like, uh I know LCO and Southshore, they don't charge any [clears throat] admission to any of their games. I would say we're in the couple of bucks no matter where we end up going. Um and I think the I think from the students perspective, and I'm not I don't want to speak totally for them, but like we've had students come in the past, so I don't think money has been an object in the past. So, what things can we maybe try to entice people to come that have maybe come in in years past. >> Yeah. >> And I know some of it has has to do
when we've had good teams, we get more people, but I think this is an effort to, hey, if let's reward the people that are always coming and maybe we'll some kids will say, oh, you know, maybe that will entice me to show up more and support the peers. So, this is again, this is coming from our students so that they acknowledge like it's not really play a game with, you know, three of your peers in the stands cheering you on. And so this is the the direction that they want to go and try to encourage that. So >> So we're we're supporting that, but I I understand your point of if >> Yeah, I don't know if that's an impediment for kids coming or not. >> I would say based on the concession stand, it's
probably not an impediment for uh you know, they spend two bucks to get in and then they go buy some candy and are adults as well also. >> Yeah. And I think some of that again goes into the the the quality of the teams that we we have on on the floor. Um you know, better teams. We we get those outside people that say, "I just want I want to come and see this team that plays." Um you know, and obviously that's difficult. We've got a really good girls team right now and we tend to have better fans, better fan support for those games. Boys games are still fairly well attended, but you think back to a couple years ago when we had a team that went to state, >> it was at times really
hard to find a seat. And I mean, that's just going to be fairly natural. >> Um, we did approve a while ago medbag purchases. Those were hand u stock med bag bags were um distributed to our active coaches right now. So they all have those for um anything that happen during practice and then when they're on the road when we don't have our our trader there. So um we we put five bags together. So three are in use right now and we got two spares in case we need them. And I know some seasons we're going to have more of those being used. I don't know if we'll get to all five of them being used at once, but we've got we've got some backups. >> So, any feedback either from yourself or other coaches
on having the trainer present? >> Um, I haven't excuse me. I haven't heard a lot from our current coaches or the coaches that we had um you know, in the fall. They haven't given me a whole ton as to pros and cons. I mean, I know when our boys played here last week, kid went crashing into um the mats at the end of the gym. It was great to have a trainer here. He ran out, said, "You got to come off, assess him." Yeah. He had to come out of the game. He was a kid from Melon. You know, he got had to get assessed >> and in 5 to 10 minutes, you returned him to the bench and he was ready to go, you know. And I think that that's helpful because You know,
coaches have their job to do. Obviously, we have our players combined, but our trainer can handle that part while >> coaches are doing their jobs. So, >> so I was at one of the girls games and one of the opposing team >> girl whacked her head pretty good. So, he came out and checked her out. So, >> it's good to have, you know, someone there. >> I can't think of any negative feedback at all. Yeah, I I like I said, I I haven't heard heard anything from our coaches. I know in our conference at least, it's a pretty rare sighting. Um LCO and Northwood and us, we all share the same trainer. So now there's two schools in our conference that have has a trainer. The rest of the schools do not. So, um I'm
glad that we have one. Um I know you go to the south and there's that's pretty standard for a lot of schools, but even I was talking with Lakeland, they said, "Yeah, we had a trainer for a time, but then, you know, the clinic closed or the agreement didn't work out and they were struggling to find it." So, I think it's one of those things that I'm once we have it, it's great that we got it. And um fortunately, I don't think we've had many students that have been like, I got to go see the trainer. He's usually here by 2:30 um most days, so that um any kids that need to get assessed or checked out or taped up or whatever it is that they can go and at that time. Um, and I
know that one of our concerns earlier was um, you know, if a kid's injured, then they got to go to a doctor, they got to go somewhere outside and, you know, Christian provides kind of that first level of support for us so that a kid doesn't always have to, you know, leave and go to the doctor necessarily for some of these things. So, >> um, just a couple of other things. Um, our trophy case, um, we've been working to try to, um, tidy that up a little bit more. Um, we actually pulled out, I think my aid counted today, over 40 plaques from the trophy case and, uh, Mark's been working on it. We're going to start putting them along actually this wall that's right here. Um, and try to put all of the the
things that can go on a wall on a wall and that leaves us more room for trophies inside of our actual trophy case because there's so many that haven't been um, displayed because we simply have not had room to display those. So, um, Mark's got the first step up and now it's just a matter of getting those up on the wall and there's some updating that we have to do on some of the more recent plaques with um engraving and pictures and stuff. But um that process is well underway. So thanks to Mark for um taking care of that. Um the last thing is just an update on Arbiter. I mentioned before that our school today, which has housed our athletic stuff for the last number of years, has been bought out by Arbiter. And
we're in this transition phase of moving our stuff from um our school today over into Arbiter. Um in November, I um set up all of our teams in Arbiter. Um which the the big bonus is that all of our co-op teams are now physically linked together in Arbiter. Meaning that when we add a game, it adds it both our calendar and Northwood calendar. So with all of the co-op support that we have um in the past if Jason added something at Northwood I would physically have to see it and add it and you know add that and he would have to do the same for ours. Now that will save us both a bunch of time and just the accuracy of not entering in things incorrectly. Uh and so that will be a big change.
Um I mentioned previously that Arbiter has a activity registration student registration piece for sports. Um you mentioned you wanted some um some more details on that here in January. So these are the things that I got from from our So one of the benefits is that it is paperless. Um so right now I've got a giant file cabinet that has all of our registration papers in it. Um all of the registration will be paperless. people can upload their forms and digitally sign all those eligibility forms so that we do away um with that part. Um all of the medical information will be accessible to our trainer and our coaches. Um so they can see all of that information um on the mobile app that goes along with it and any sort of injury history. Um
so if a kid is in concussion protocol um we all know what steps they're at because those can be listed right in the app. They can entered in and everyone knows what stage everyone um all of those athletes are at. So, a little bit more transparency when it comes to um potential athletes with injury. So, that will be that would be a benefit um for us. Um, one of the big things would be very much a streamlining of our registration process. What it is right now when we have um, this happened, everyone's got to bring their physical forms, whether it's the full physical form that's on the full sheet of paper or the third sheet um, alternate year card. And then they have one document that needs to get signed that signs off on concussion
education and our handbook and the WIA handbook. And [clears throat] invariably when I go through all those forms, signatures are miss missing and the dates are wrong and all those things. And so um one thing that would be um better with this is that one registration signs you up for one sport or all the sports. So you can simply check the boxes that you are going to participate in. It will automatically register you in those sports and then it will start to populate those rosters in whatever those athletes choose and you can't submit things that would be incorrect about the only thing that I would need to look at is the physical forms just to make sure that the what the dates are on those and that the correct form has been subar. Um the
other benefit to this is um we can use this for other registrations within our building. So if it's summer school registration or if it's after school tutoring registration um we can just set up a piece for other registrations within that same system. So and I know we had talked you know just about some of the facility scheduling pieces that's a whole different avenue. Um but it's another thing that when I talk to our coaches they sometimes struggle with knowing well what parts of the building are open when they're open how can I sign up for those pieces and then the you know as our building is used by external groups, you know, they kind of struggle with the same thing, knowing how can I sign up, what times are available. So, those are just some
of the things that arbiter has. Um, the student registration piece would be an additional um fee. Uh, and so would the activity scheduleuler. And I didn't get a whole lot of information on that, but that was a recent conversation that we had with our coaches. >> But do you think there's enough protections built I mean, we're loading a lot of personal information in there now, >> right? >> Yeah. As you know, it would be something that we would have to really communicate with our coaches like, you know, they would have a mobile app that they would be able to access this information. Um, and and obviously they they have, you know, they are required to make sure that they protect that that information. And so, it would just have to be one of those new
protocols that we would have to go under like, you know, you have to be with with that information. >> So are the are the student or athletes that are they're enrolling in this somehow too or >> so yeah so when they you know presume you know this wouldn't the earliest we would do with this is in the fall. So this would be for athletes to register for whatever sports that they want to participate in for up to a full calendar you know a full school year. And so yeah, they would uh between them and their parents, they would sign they would have the ability to digitally sign off that they agree to our handbook. Our handbook will be posted um within the the app. Our WIA forms would be posted within the website so that
they would just essentially click yes, I agree. Yes, I agree and initial or sign, however it looks on that form. And then um they just have to upload the physical form which they would do um I I believe they said just a snap of a picture um and then upload it and then that form is there >> but a a student couldn't access somebody else's >> No no it would be secure that you'd only be able to access yours. I mean obviously on on our end we'd be able to see everything. Um but I guess one of the things right now is like our coaches unless they really need to see something with a physical form. You know, they really rarely see those pieces. Um, so this would give them a little bit more information
on that side. And then again with the trainer notes, if Christian sees somebody, then he can document that as to what they've been working on um in those trainer notes. >> You guys have anything? >> Okay. Thank you. >> All right. Thank you. >> And you're up. Yeah. Um, so a little bit of a short month compared to December as well. So it's just some updates and recognitions. We had our Eagles Academy project showcase last week. Really successful. It was a lot of fun talking with the students and getting to learn a little bit more about their projects. Uh, so just, you know, want to thank Miss Hager, Mr. Glass Maker, and Miss Shepard for putting the work into um that event for our students and families. It was really great. I know John was
able to make it as well and we got to sample some some of their projects. So, um so it was fun. Uh and then forensics, uh that has been reestablished and their first competition is February 5th in Ashland. And so sounds like we have a pretty good middle school crew um that's involved. And so Mrs. Rey kind of spearheaded that, getting that back into working order again. And Miss Johnson is also helping with that um cocurricular too. So just another great experience and opportunity for our students to be a part of. Um one thing I did fail to mention, we had our stalling be Mrs. Egan put that on and so we'll have a few students moving on to Ashlin February 3rd um to compete against other students from our schools. So very excited for
that. Um just a few updates from our overall PLC team. So, we reviewed and discussed um the PLC continuing data report. It's a fidelity measure just to kind of see what areas of strengths are and areas of improvement um that we can continuously grow on and then just kind of how does that um stream into our other PLC collaborative teams and how can we ensure that we are all sharing the same vision and shared mission and then just a few upcoming events. So, right now, um January is going to be it's a pretty heavy assessment time for our students with fast bridge and as web that's happening. Um we are in the process of finalizing our proctors and rosters for our ACT and preac and forward administration in um March. So, we're doing that. Uh
the end of the quarter is this Friday, next week. middle school and high school is having a spirit week. We will have I think it's to be posted our spirit days on on all sides of the district and then our parent teacher conferences coming up in February. So, and then just some continuing work and upcoming um this Friday we have professional development where we'll keep diving into our math essential standards. Um we are training our staff on being proctors for our state assessments and then continuing some of that conversation with our universal design for learning. Um, our midyear review for AGR goals is coming up for next month and then we'll be having a district at the end of this month which I believe Mr. talk a little bit more about. Um, and then training
conferences as we know AI is becoming a thing and so just being proactive and what that looks like within our school building. And then lastly, staffing updates. My apologies, I missed um one of our positions. Um later tonight hopefully to have an answer on our middle schoolm. >> Thank you. >> I have one. >> So on the showcase they do that in their classroom. Is there any particular reason why they do them there as opposed to a much larger easier space? I mean, you got, you know, a showcase, boom, boom, and they're all kind of in a circle and it it's kind of chaotic in there, I thought, >> because you got so many kids talking at the same time. Um, can we use the cafeteria or or what about just going down the hall
like >> Yeah, I'm not sure how much preparation goes in ahead of time and if there's, you know, a way they transition over a good midway because there's a 10inut break. >> So, I mean that's definitely >> yeah, >> it's just too crowded. It was previous years that they used the library and then that center room that used to be the high school >> like it was spread out a little bit more >> right I think just working with Britney I think we can try to figure something else >> Pete you are up >> all right promise to keep it short and to the point uh first things first concept design devel velment uh got a meeting scheduled next week, January 28th at 5:00 pm. Uh it's with market and Johnson and RPA. Uh they
will be conducting by teams, but take a look at Got a few people that would like to come together as a group. So they have the library open with teams here so we can uh entertain people here. It's going to be once again with some staff members uh some community members and board members that attend this team just virtual >> Microsoft version of Zoom. >> Uh next one. Yeah, data dig. We're have district data dig on the 29th. That's truly our time to to dig into our academic and behavioral data just to see some strengths uh areas that we need to grow and uh trying to identify root causes for start it's been very helpful in our planning and addressing needs. Uh, next item, bear training event. Uh, Lea and I are attending uh, virtual
training on February 5th. Um, just give us a little better understanding of how to utilize that budget model. Um, and I've got a few bills here that are just kind of out there. I know the first one, uh, I don't there's no anticipation that will be passed um, or signed by the governor. It's regarding uh, conditions in which the change of people's legal name or legal name and pronouns records. Um, I know this was a a a push by by Republicans to to solidify this piece, but I don't see that getting traction. Um another one right up uh Brad's area trying to remove some of the uh interesting chemicals and foods like bromated vegetable potassium bromate and the infamous red dye 3. So that that might actually take um and another one just taking a
look at it. Um I I know that uh with our younger kids there is not a specific time set for recess but uh Bill that is being considered and looked at is extending it to at least 60 minutes of recess time. What do we do now for >> uh typically we have a 30 minute uh that correlates with lunch and then we have uh gym and time in the morning. usually end a little bit like if they're done with other stuff. >> It depends on the group, >> right? >> Kind of a type thing, >> right? But this would make a requirement there. So, and then one that uh did not make it to this list, but I just got an email on it today. Uh it's regarding Act 57. If you guys have been
following this, it's uh it's really been a hot topic and it's regarding um the notification of parents uh from uh let me just read here. Effective December 10th, the state of Wisconsin acted uh Wisconsin Act 57 placing additional parent notification requirements on school boards, private schools, and charter school operators upon receipt of a report that raises reasonable cause to suspect that of the following three categories of conduct occur. A staff member has engaged in sexual misconduct as defined. U staff member or volunteer has been uh convicted of a serious child sex offense and worked primarily and directly with children in a matter that would be a felony. And then the last one, a registered sex offender is intentionally captured a representation of a minor pupil without the written consent of their parent or guardian. Um,
so that was passed. We should have a policy up for consideration either next month or in March. So, okay, thank you very much. Moving on, uh, public comment. So, Jim James, you want to come on up? Good evening. Thanks for listening or taking time to listen to me. My name is Jim James. >> One second. Do you want to >> We just got a time for >> Yep. No problem. >> All right. >> Um my name is Jim James. I live here in the village. I'm at 1514 South Lakeside Street. Um Let's see. I've owned the property since 99. So, I've been a taxpayer since then in the school district and I believe in public school system. My kids went to school in Superior. I graduated from Maple. I'm a lifelong resident of Douglas County.
But when I got my tax bill this time and I seen that the school district had an increase of 24.7%. I just want to know why and what is going to happen with that. Two years ago, I was at Maple High School District when their tax rate went up 18 something%. Um, just to give you an idea, um, I do own properties in these other school districts. Um, you know, Superior went up 9.6 this year, 2.7 last year. Maple had gone up 18% the year before. [clears throat] Actually went down a minus 14% this year. you guys went up. I didn't have the stat, but I think it was like 2.7% last year and then this year at 24% 24.7%. And for me, um, that's an increase of almost $900 for my taxes annually. That's
unsustainable in my mind. So, I'm I'm here to hear an explanation from somebody why it went up so much. Um, or maybe not. I don't know. Um, and then, like I said, I think the school board has to look for other other ideas. Whether it's a 4 day school week, whether it's cutting administration, whether it's putting two schools together. I don't know. I don't know the answer. I'm not here. I'm just here as a citizen to that 24% is not sustainable for a lot of tax players, including yourselves, I'm sure. So, why did it go up so high? >> Has to do with our tax assessment and everybody got jacked up on it a lot, >> including me. >> Yep. So, what that does is it kills our state aid. >> Kills your state aid.
>> Yeah. Our state aid went down quite a bit. So which in turn puts it back on the taxpayer when we don't get the state aid as high as it was. >> So three three4 of the state the schools state aid went down because the state was not they set the amount that we can can basically charge. So there's a bucket that's part taxes property taxes part state aid. So they tell us this is exactly how much we can get per student. So they do the increase each year. So when we build our budget, we build it out that much. We have it's our three-year average of students for the last three years times the amount that we can that they tell us we can get. And then the state tells us how much they're
going to give us towards that and the rest goes to the property tax. So that had a big impact on it besides the fact that we were have a big assessment in our in our area. >> What's going to happen beyond here next year? What's what's what is the board projecting? Where is it going from here? Any idea? >> That's how we have budgets every year. >> You guys you guys I'm not taking anything away from you. I'm not blaming you, but I'm just saying that something that's 24% is just not sustainable, you know, for a community on a whole. Um, you know, state, you know, state representatives and so forth and so on. Um, yeah, they all have to be contacted for that reason. I understand that totally. and they have so my um
so I appreciate your time um but I just wanted to uh I can't believe I'm the only one standing here complaining about this but again I appreciate your time I appreciate your effort um because it is a unforgiving I know I've been on a number of boards and committ so I understand that totally so come up with an answer. I'd like to hear from it. I'd like to hear about it. So, all right. Um, one other note that with Nathan there, uh, some of the other schools do have fill the gym night. They do a marketing. They find a sponsor for the night and then they they, you know, they promote it through either their schedule or through other marketing, but it's called fill the gym and they don't charge anybody anything because a sponsor
has helped with that. So, I don't know if that's something that they can do. Okay. >> Thank you very much, sir. >> Thank you. >> The state requires that reassess every so often. this year. >> All right, let's see here. Moving on. Personal personnel recommendations. So, we have a couple resations that aware of and that I know that has a couple recommendations. We have Lindsay Shepard for our Eagles Academy professional who and then Curtis as our elementary special ed professional background and how they worked with children >> and then did you did you have their actual applications or bio again we're going back to got a name and recommendation, but we don't know anything about >> Yeah. I mean, refresh my memory. Did we have that conversation? Yes. >> Okay. My apologies. It was like
earlier this fall. >> Okay. My apologies. Um, yes. So, Lindsay has worked in different areas um in customer service. So, dealing with multiple individuals and just dealing with general. She comes from a family background and working with kids and Isabella Rebella, she's a recent graduate and it was a great opportunity to kind of grow our own. Um, so she has come back to the district and has really she's also had experience um as a student working with our elementary students and kind of already has a relationship with a lot of our elementary staff and so it's just a really good fit. Um, and then she's also in the process of working on getting her special edition. Can >> I get a motion to accept the resations and prior recommendations as presented? >> Motion second. >>
Any more discussion? >> All those in favor? >> Any opposed? All right. Uh, no donations. Superintendent Search. Uh, so where was left off, we had Nick Madison here, uh, during the committee the whole presentation on their services. Um, and just said we'd want to get more information or get things set and have this discussion here. That was the selection. or the choice that you have. So, I looked up WB's hiring process just for comparison's sake and and they don't, you know, they have to shoot you a specific number based on criteria, but there it does say on their website that their range is between 10 and 15,000. So, certainly CC 12 Nothing against WSB. I think they do a great job. They put out a good product. Um, and I know the uh the fellow
that helps with that service. So, does a real good job. He was a former superintendent in a small district kind of like ours. So, that cost is a little >> Yeah. And so, and that's my main I just wanted something to compare it to. >> Right. Did we discuss salary arrangement on this or is this >> No. >> Okay. >> No, this was just uh in order to get get the position posted. >> Okay. >> And start the process. >> Um what are you guys thinking about that salary range? >> Well, we probably need to discuss that before I assume that's the part of the posting will be here is our salary, >> right? I would I would one one thing that I would ask uh Nick to do is to make sure that we
get things laid out as to where where things sit uh countywise, you know, as far as what's the average for salaries and just get a lay of the land, so to speak, as we get into this process. So, but I know he was actually looking to post it as early as last week. So I think the timeline he laid out we need to nail this down because right he he uh he has not posted yet. He was waiting for the results of this. He was getting it ready but has not posted. >> Yeah. My understanding was he was going to have it ready and then we approved it like in the next day or two. >> Yeah. We contact him either tonight or tomorrow. So package. You guys probably got my email today. The last
time they didn't ask us what we did, they just put their own and I don't even believe that talking to Frank last time as to what our norm is. I think that Nick just came up with that. So, I would really appreciate it if you could somewhat align that with, you know, the percentages of things that that we do, >> right? And I I will say that the posting will probably not have that range on it. >> It would not. >> Okay. I mean, >> yeah, because I mean, from my experience, it was not. >> Sorry. Because like Yeah, I'd rather not have the range on there because I mean, it depends on if somebody has experience or not experience. I mean, that's a huge difference. and just looking at like that planning that he
put out. It's like posting and going through some of those and then the salaries after that on his kind of like timeline. >> Yeah, >> I think that gives us a little bit of time for discussion, but yeah. >> Yeah. As long as long as the post doesn't have the salary and we can figure out the whole benefits package to later. >> Yes. >> Um I mean could be that should be all part of the you know final we offer back and forth that is correct if I remember correctly that's how it it um I know someone that went through that process that that is accurate very much so >> all right so do we need We need motion to approve the superintendent search. >> Okay. I'll make the motion that start the superintendent search.
>> I'll second. >> Any more discussion? All in favor? >> Any opposed? >> All right. Moving on. >> Will you contact who will contact? >> I will. Okay. I will not. >> All right. Open enrollment seats for 2627. Once again, uh we have both the uh regular open enrollment which does begin next month in a couple weeks uh which then runs through the end of April. And then the other one listed is the special special education open enrollment requirements and recommendations. Uh just a reminder when we pass the special ed open enrollment process that limits the students that have IEPs based on our spacing all the way through the third count in September. So what we set now is what we have to live by until that time. Um are we are we maxed out
this year? >> Um I would there are some spaces. Okay. So >> do we want to put a limit on what if we bring in versus inhouse? >> I don't do house. >> No not in house. But I mean >> what is our max for enrollment. >> I think it it depends on the grade. >> So, and that's that's what that breakout is. >> Yeah. I just would like to almost hold spots available more for, you know, in house if somebody moves into the district versus >> Well, no, I I I hear you >> and I know I Yeah, I know we're going to supply them no matter what, >> right? >> But I I'd rather not do the no matter what. have the availability, you know, instead of stressing the whole >> No, that
that makes sense. Um that that does make sense. But then on the other hand, I having an open spot that's not being used. >> That's it. Okay. I want to make a motion to accept the open enroll 26 27. I'll make a motion. >> Any more discussion? >> All in favor? >> I opposed calendar 2026 2027 calendar school calendar. All right. So, I thought we had things kind of locked up with with teachers and staff, but then we got some feedback um which then produced option two, which changes it up a little bit. The only thing is it creates a little more risk uh to um having to find more time if we have a number of snow days or adverse weather days. Uh that would be the only major issue to that. Um so,
What I I guess I'm going to recommend here is that we postpone it. Take a look at both of them. We'll come back in February and try to hash out and hopefully I can we can have a better product. Everybody okay with table >> until February? >> Correct. Yes, ma'am. Board meeting schedule for 2026 2027. Once again, this follows the same that we have established. Now that superintendent has it all set that one or >> Yeah. Okay. I'll make the motion to approve the board. >> All in favor? >> Any opposed? Moving on. >> State archives field experience. So, there's some good discussion about uh either attending this or trying to get some individuals in from uh WMadison, which they do have a great department. The only thing that uh I would add to this
and maybe in support of it is the fact that you're actually going into a facility to do research and um I know it can be intimidating. I use this facilities when I was going to school. Um has a lot of great information in there and a lot of different resources whether it's in microfich or uh digital or whatnot. I mean, it's it's a different experience that I don't necessarily think you'll get here. Um, would I recommend this all the time? Probably not. I think you trying to utilize the the uh traveling crew from WMadison would be wise. Uh, but on the other hand, having this experience just to have a different environment to see the research. >> So, did they not allow it to Wisconsin? Is that what it is or does Wisconsin not have
this? It's in Madison, so it a lot, right? You couldn't get there back in the day >> to to have onsite. And it is it's a little more challenging in the fact that it's >> it's centered right in in the center of UW. >> Yeah. So, it's it's a little more challenging. Uh this is is located more towards downtown St. Paul, but it's easy to access and it's a pretty large facility. So, something like every three years. >> Um I think that's something that we should really have a good discussion on. Um I I think we haven't explored the WMadison enough >> to say that. Um my suggestion if it's if it's something that's approved at this time and then we'll So, we're approving this trip. Is that what this is? Yes, want to give
an action. I will make a motion to approve second. All those in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? Hockey co-op. All right. Uh, so once again, just bringing up the possibility of girls hockey co-op. Uh, what I have attached for you is a for you is a copy of an email that I received back from uh the superintendent from Superior um pretty much stating that she does not support co-op at all. Even though they co-op now. That is correct. That I read that it doesn't make any sense. Well, we only co-op if we don't have enough students. So, obviously that's probably the case because they're co-oping with Northwest. That's with girls. I know boy hockey is a little more >> Yeah. >> stringent to Yeah, she basically wants to >> we can do about it.
But >> that that is correct. I mean I I I can try to approach the board president but just know that that I don't see that being tremendously fruitful either. And for a one or two off thing, that'll probably never happen another 20 years. I don't know. >> Absolutely. >> So, do we really need to do anything? >> All right. Math teacher position. >> Yeah. I'm not sure how much you like to share. >> No, just something good. Yeah. So, we we do have >> [laughter] >> Uh no, we we did have an applicant was interviewed I think as as the capability of doing this uh and was recommended by an employee of the district. Um however we we need to go into specifics and that's what we will discuss uh during our sessions. Okay.
So we'll take action athlete social media emergency sheet. >> Yeah. So, uh part of our discussion a couple weeks ago, one thing that that came up was uh how how we are getting the no media, no social media um and no pictures signed off. And I think what what I discovered is on the emergency sheet that we utilize now for every year it's it can be slightly confusing in the fact that you sign it to to grant permission which I I yeah I think is a little bit confusing uh sending stuff off to just uh to legal advisor and just trying to get some feedback. Um what they suggested is to take it off from that emergency contact uh sheet that we do every fall and have it listed um or have a a spot
on our website where people can go saying this is what you need to do if you do not want that. So, it's making it more of an active approval or I should say not active approval but active denying of that. Um, I know Dave has already put one piece onto the website so it's viewable to go under families. It's the bottom. Uh, and he I think one thing that we'll do too is to actually attach a form that people can just uh write off versus sending a letter. Just more streamlined because I think that was part of the confusion and part of the discussion that came up saying, "Oh, they can take my their kids picture or whatever, you know." So, there was some discrepancy as to >> I mean, is it something where you
would put a line underneath this saying yes or no to it to add it on to this versus a whole separate form? >> Um, no. It was more of the recommendation to have a full separate sign. That's exactly right. Can we because just like when we do like the sports forms too like just have like a reminder in there >> that if you do not want your >> I mean just like another layer of reminder of the fall we have all athletes meeting >> that right if they haven't already done it that' be the time to present decision, >> right? No, it certainly can be added on to that. I know with with the sheet that update, one thing that uh Sven recommended is that we put a statement on there. If you want to
do this, go here. >> Yeah. >> And do that. >> What's that? >> That statement be on this. >> It it is uh if you look at the uh the sheet, >> it is uh Last page, student image use and opt out. >> Just giving a more information as to this was on here previously. Um, if you want to do this, go through that. >> Oh, so it was on here before, but this is the new one. >> That is correct. >> Okay. >> All right. That's what I was confused. >> Yeah. Change. >> No. So, so where it was, it was it was located I think right after the med use or whatever and and just you know [clears throat] if you want how do I say anyway if you do not want your
kid in there sign but I could see where it get >> yeah wrapped up pretty easily when you sign your kids right I did >> just sign with what is being posted. I know some emails were received as far as how much information we're putting out about students. And then I kind of looked at some of the other area school districts that are doing it really well. >> They're not putting a lot of like full names unless it's like they're getting, you know, like athlete of the year or different things like that. and they're not doing full team photos because then that's when it looks funny when you're eliminating one. They're just >> right >> doing like a quick picture with no >> heavy identifiers I guess >> right and you know that's the other
piece of this discussion too is you know when we opened this up uh we didn't necessarily have a single person that we could identify saying you're going to monitor this and do this or that leaving it to the coaches but then presents that issue that uh how do you effectively monitor and control this PS? So that that's one thing that that we're going to be trying to work through is how can we do this better? So who currently has permission to post pictures or anything to the school? >> So that is primarily controlled um to Christine Megan. I think I have control that now as well. There's it's a If I wanted to post a picture, I could go through one of the three. You would say, "Can you maybe [clears throat] post this or
whatever?" But I wouldn't be able to do it directly. That's pretty limited. Who has control or who has access to that piece? >> So, we need a motion on this. Um, >> is it changing the form or >> it's it's changing the form, but I guess you certainly can, but I don't it's more of an administrative thing, more of your knowledge versus having that need for pass. Yeah. >> So, >> all right, moving on. >> Ah, can I get a motion to convene in close session pursuit to Wisconsin statute 19.851 C to consider employment promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data of any public employee over which this governmental body has jurisdiction or exercises responsibility. >> I'll make a motion. >> Second. All in favor? >> I close. >> Anybody need a break? 701. Anybody need
a break?
