Good. Okay. I'm going to call the meeting to order at 6 o'clock. Uh we'll head into roll call. Scott >> here. >> Caroline >> here. >> Brittany >> here. >> And I'm here. John. Uh we have a quorum. Brad is currently absent. He may join us a bit later. Uh before we do the approval of the meeting agenda and in addition to approving it, um I'm going to do a request a motion to move item J on the current agenda to immediately follow item B. So, can I get a motion for that? I will make a motion to move item J immediately following item B. >> Second. >> Okay. All those in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? Okay. Meeting agenda motion carries. I don't think I I don't see anything on student staff community

recognition. Uh so we'll go under the 30 60 90day planning. any you want to highlight or no. um other than uh getting into um our winter assessment stuff for students through 8th grade um and then becomes then uh steps into uh February and uh getting ready for state testing which starts in March. >> And just a note for myself, the um Eagles Academy has their showcase on the 15th starting at 5 o'lock. if you're available to come in and see what Eagles Academy does. Uh they would I'm sure they'd greatly appreciate that. Uh okay, then let's move into the administrative position formally item J. So the the first thing about this is uh CISA 12 which uh uh McMadison is here to represent CISA 12 uh they're prepared to assist with the superintendent search and

>> they've got some stuff to present to you. >> Yeah. And I'm not sure how much information you want or how much you want to talk tonight before you want to move on nextgen item but I just >> at least give us an overview of >> Yeah. So what I did is I this is just kind of the planning document originally. I'll just um you can take that and pass it around. Um, this kind of just shows you what is involved in the process. And I know that this is the u this one as well. This is kind of just an overview of what everything is that we do. Um, so one is kind of the the process and one is kind of the um the task list with with kind of it's not like

this is a contract, but it kind of is. So what what we I don't know if you've got other bids or not, but if you do, um, there are other SE services out there. Um, we're typically less than half of any other service. So, we try to keep our price quite a bit lower and we make it turn key. So, there's we were we are with you for the whole search process. We will do all the work for the search process um until you get a candidate that you hire and that candidate stays for two years. Candidate leaves after a year, we start over. still part of your same base fee. So, we try to do everything. There's no hidden fees. I can't think of anything that's ever we've done probably a dozen or so

different searches in season 12. I've done a couple some others in some other cases as well. Um, and we've never had an issue with the So, there's no nickel or dimming. It's just turnkey. It's everything. Um, and and also, you know, anything that you might want as well. So, um, the this what I put together is just kind of an overview of the one that has your logo on the top of it. That's just the if we were kind of getting going now. Um, what a timeline would look like and what we would do. Um, so when we say we do everything, that means we take the position, we post it, we advertise it, I recruit candidates. Um I we do a survey to your community and staff to get input on what they would

look for in a superintendent, what they would want. So there's that community engagement. We typically get, you know, a couple hundred people reply to that so that you know you get a pretty wide instead of having like a a meeting like hey come and tell us what you think and 10 people come. We try to cast a much bigger net and really engage the whole community. Um so we do the survey. Um we we do kind of a process that we kind of get everybody in electronically. Once we get all the applicants in um we will I will create a Google Drive and you'll all have access to that and so you can look at the candidates um and and and then we will have a planning meeting where we will review those candidates and

decide who we want to um who who we want to interview. Um and um then we will typically do so we'll kind of screen out. Hopefully we have enough to screen out. Um and then we will do a first round of interviews and that would be with just the board. And so um the board would interview these candidates. We have to interview six at least. We can interview more if we want. Um interview six and from that select finalists who would then interview again um a week later. Uh and that they would that second interview would be with a community and staff group and with the board again. So you kind of get two two times with that finalist group and it's the same process that we use when you hire people. Um I will

do the um I will help you we will facilitate all the interviews. We'll facilit we have we'll bring seats of 12 people in to facilitate that other group as well um and make it very clear what their role is and that they're here to give you input. But really we try to make this whole process um a board decision and a board directive and a board centric you know this is as a board this is your most important decision you'll make um is hiring superintendent. So it's the biggest decision you make and you know all the other hiring you kind of have P oversee it. This one that's kind of what you bring me for is to help oversee the whole thing. So I will I will facilitate your I will, you know, guide you

on all the legal ramifications of then there's quite a bit in fact a group of us just had a a meeting with a an attorney a whole day meeting in Green Bay, three of us that four of us that do um superintendent searches for ceases um just to go over all the legal things. So we spent a day just talking about all the legal ramifications of doing superintendent search. So there's there are there are there are some landmines you got to avoid. Um and that's what we're here for is to make sure that that those are avoided. I'll do an extensive background on every candidate. So, you won't have a hire that is 11 that you didn't know about. Um, it'll be very transparent. Um, I think we're in a good spot that I connect

with the other 11 CE administrators once a month at least. I spend with them in person and they're as in tune with their districts as hopefully I am with mine here in Case 12. And so, we know the candidates. So, you know, if Annie applies in CISA 8, they call me, I can tell them. Yeah, I know Annie. But there's all these connections. So, I mean, I know Annie, I know Pete. Same with other Case administrators. They know their people. And so, that's I can get those connections and I can get the real scoop on people. So, I just I don't think that anybody can slide through the cracks and you'll make a bad hire. So, that's I think a big part of what we what we try to do. um the finalist interviews um

those were that second round with you and the group and then we get their input we'll facilitate it but then that would be the time that you would make the the candidate decisions that you want to go with um you would [clears throat] then then still not done then you would give me some parameters and I would um negotiate that contract with that person um so you you can you can kind of avoid that spot I mean it's within what your parameters are and we can talk about that um and then um hopefully we're good to go. I gave you a timeline if you look at where when that all happens. You know, we have we're here tonight, 5th. Um if we kind of posted it soon, I would post it through about February 11th.

Um we could do the then we could be I believe the 16th is a regular board meeting. You could possibly if you wanted to have that be your screening committee. It doesn't take a ton of time. You're typically trying to get it from like 12 candidates down to six and it's, you know, it's not that hard. You're not making a hiring decision. How long do you usually keep the posting open? >> It depends. I usually It depends on when it is. I think if you just have a straight up like now at this point, we're early. I'd say four weeks is adequate. >> Okay. >> Um if I'm posting in um the end of May, um and I or June, it's, you know, a week, 10 days. Yeah. Two weeks, you know. >> So, our

next regular board meeting is is January 19th. If we decided on that date, would that I mean that doesn't >> Yeah, I can post it whenever you want. I think that might have to look at a calendar. Um I think if we did it the 19th, post it the 20th. Um that's a little tighter timeline, but we could maybe that might be harder to get it posted and then um but we we could probably do can we do that between the 19th of January and then the 16th of February is when the posting would probably >> So yeah, you could just bump your closed date out. I can b the closing date till like the 15th >> and then just bring everybody here. You wouldn't maybe be able to look at them ahead of time,

but >> it's I can walk you through them all if you're okay with that. So that would Yeah, that could still work. And we could still keep the other dates as well. >> And these are all, you know, to be approved. I just wanted to give you a timeline, a general to consider what we would be considering. >> Can we this time also um correspond our benefit package a little bit? you came up with the benefit package la the last time and it did not align what we have for the rest of the school. So it wouldn't it shouldn't necessarily. >> Well, the percentage of of health insurance and things like that I think we should be able to align. >> Well, that's the board has to decide that though. >> Yeah. And I mean

sometimes that go sometimes it doesn't. >> Okay. >> All right. Any questions? >> But that would be at the negotiating the contract stage. I wouldn't really probably negotiate. You wouldn't negotiate benefits or you wouldn't post benefits up. I just know that that was I didn't know what we were offering until the contract was done and it's like it's just handy to have things kind of um meshed across the board the way we've had it in the past. >> Well, that that may or may not happen though, Lean. I mean, you might I think what you have to do is your your superintendent benefit package probably needs to align with what other superintendent benefit packages look like, not necessarily what your staff benefit packages. >> I like to see it align with some >> Yeah. And

if the board agrees with you, it's the board's call. Yeah, for sure. >> Okay. Anything else? >> That's all I have. >> Okay. Any other any questions for Mr. Madison? >> I'm good. >> Okay. It's probably best we just put it on the agenda for the 19th. Um, and then assuming we'll I mean I I don't know if we even going to entertain any other competing. Um, >> I I guess that that's that's the the call because u I guess that's what I need corrective on if if we want to look at other services and get that information and have that available for the 19th. Likewise, if there's more questions for for Miss Madison, send it my direction, we can >> Yeah, we can. But I could if you're if you want to give a

tenative, >> we're looking at this. I could get the posting ready so we could, you know, get ready. >> Yeah, that probably makes sense. We get it ready and by >> the evening of the 19th or 19th, we probably contact you, go from there. >> Okay. All right. >> Yeah, I can do that. We can do a quick pivot at that. Oh, that's a that's that's a school work week, right? >> It is. >> Yeah, it is. Okay. >> But I would be in contact with the other. >> Yeah, I'll I can have it ready. It's not it's not a big deal. >> Okay. >> You know. >> All right. >> That's what your preference is. Yeah. Any questions about the search process or any other thing I could answer? I mean, I I can

tell you about the other, you know, there's a couple other what they do, what they offer. I mean, they are a lot more money. >> Yeah. And for those of you that know, I mean, that's we we used CISA 12 last uh time to hire and it I seemed like it went without any kind of glitches or anything. So, >> yeah, it seems like that's what Brad was thinking to. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Yep. >> Thank you, sir. >> Okay. Okay, the next item on the agenda is athletic social media. Who's taking that? >> I didn't put it on there, but that's why I'm here. >> Yeah, [clears throat] >> sounds [laughter] like fun. >> Let's see. The I I think where where it's getting kind of

um getting tricky is when we have students that um have a social media posting requirement. And I I love the fact that we have community members like Al that are willing to do these posts, but how do we navigate this? Because we al was sharing that information because coaches know that the students that have that. >> Yeah. And I know my understanding it was provided uh with the coaches meeting. I mean, we can go I'm not sure on that piece, but that's what I was instructed. And then where where do we go with Furpa issues? You know, FERPA, that's the the family education privacy u or rights and privacy act. So, it's kind of like HIPPA. You know what? I can't share information on specific students to non-employees or people that don't need to know

if that makes sense. Okay. >> So, it it's how how do we best do this, you know, because I I know you were frustrated on this, Alan. I don't blame you because you put this up and and you want to, you know, provide these posts, but then I'm kind of stuck in a limbo spot and I want to support that, but then on the other hand, you know, we got to look out for the for the district as well. So, >> so are we, we have students that basically don't want any media. >> Their parents >> the parents don't >> parents actively signed off saying they do not want >> Okay. And that's been communicated to the coaching staff >> who are employees, >> right? >> Okay. And we're just not making the ne the

>> it's it's navigating what's the next step. How do how do we best do it, you That's I don't know if you had more thoughts on this >> like Okay, so the no media list, what what does that mean to you guys? What is it? Like how important is that thing? >> Well, if the parent says they don't want their kids picture posted on any social media, I mean that's a pretty clear bright line. >> What do you mean by any social media? >> Facebook. >> What I'm getting at is >> in I don't know. kids on NFHS all over the place. >> That's so so that that is one thing that is >> we we check that piece out. NFHS it's it's a recording but but then it's it's showing everyone and you really

have to dig into it versus social media. >> It's it's there if it's recorded. If it's >> if it's a live stream >> Yeah. >> No issue. Well, and then and like Pete and I already had this had conversations about this, but like other schools say we go, you know, the boys are at Hurley right now. Hurley's really good with her social media presence. They take a picture of little Billy and there's our no social media kid on defense and they post it. We don't we don't have anybody here that is policing that. There is one kid that's on the social media list that's on our district media three times right now in less than a year. He's out there right now. I did one of them that hasn't been taken down. I don't know

why Nate did one of them. I don't think he knew he did it. And another one was back in November. I don't know who put it up. Probably the choir. So, there's that. Now, as far as athletics goes, my take just because I deal with the girls social media quite a bit. Um, they don't have anybody on that team on those teams that are on the the no list. Um, I don't know if there can be a waiver or an agreement or if you join sports. You can't play if you choose to fail all of your classes. You can't play if you have a communicable disease. I I don't know. Is this a thing where if you join sports and your family's got this no media thing, you're going to have to talk about that

as a family because they're going to be on social media. >> I think to a point when it's the parents, but the problem I think that I see more is like foster >> kids that we have, >> they it they're you know, the state is in charge of them and some of them it's for like a protection. >> Yeah. like they could have been taken from their parents for you know safety reason or you know usually it is because of safety reasons >> but I've seen like you know we have we've had them where then you put a star >> or a smiley face and it looks funny >> the rest of the team feel stupid about >> it stays and I can see why they feel silly about it but also >> it's about

the safety of them >> yeah and and maybe That's [clears throat] where I was saying that they need to talk about that as a family. Maybe they can't play sports because this we only can control three sports. Boys basketball, girls basketball, and volleyball. Now, you got all the rest of the co-ops. You got the other side that is other that is also doing all these pictures and postings. >> Okay. Um and and you're you're bringing up a good point and stuff that >> I mean this this is >> the easier piece of it, right? And we we have to figure that piece out before we move on to the next step. >> So, >> right. >> So, >> because I I I will be honest and say that even in my coaching time, >> I

didn't I didn't run across this, right? >> You know, and this is a much different age now. And how how do we best facilitate and manage it because I mean, I I want to promote our district. I want to promote our our activities here, but how how in cow dang, you know, everyone's busy and whatnot, and how do how do you police it and reinforce that, let alone provide >> it was my mistake that I did I didn't even know there was a thing, right? >> You know, and then when I did find out, I I dug further. But I will tell you this, like it's weird that some of this posting has to come down to parents otherwise nothing gets seen I think. But whatever. I did talk to a parent actually today who

um she wanted me to post the Hurly post this morning for the boys which was awesome and I was so excited that somebody was going to jump in and help the boys. She is so frustrated now. She won't do it again. And she has said that I will not host for the boys again. This is the the headache, the frustration. And I'm not somebody who backs off easy. Um and and so there's there's there's parents that want to help and it's really difficult >> for these for sports, right? Um, and >> I think it needs to be bigger than sports, but that's my opinion, right? >> That yes, but but I would say that this came to a head with this piece. >> Yeah, this >> that's where we need to bring it up. So,

>> and that's my recommendation is is I don't know how it comes across if it's a paper they take home or whatever. Just knowing that as a school I think it helped your liabilities to just say if you're going to be in sports or going to be in the media whether it's our school, other schools, everywhere you go. >> Uh yeah, I I don't agree with that. Okay. >> I mean, if a parent want says, "Yeah, my kids play sports and if they live stream or you know, okay, fine. But don't post a picture of them as being player of the week and put it on Facebook or Instagram or where you're doing a photograph. I I think they still retain, you know, so the right to refuse that and I to I don't think

we should hinder, you know, uh a student and parent uh from participating in sports. I mean, we want to encourage that, >> but I think we can fairly accommodate >> as best we can to to keep them off medias. >> And if it's putting a star over a team photo, I mean, we do that in the newsletter. >> Yeah, >> that's true. is part of the issue the sharing the no with like l and so I know it's another step in the chain and probably would be frustrating but if it's the coaches have to do the social media if Al wants to create the thing but the coach has to have final say because they know who can and cannot >> versus having >> that's how it works with the girls >> yeah I make

the post, I send them to Ashley. She puts them out um accordingly. >> Right. >> And that partly because I'm a spelling idiot. So she doesn't. >> So I assume we can't actually tell parents, no, you can't post a picture of so and so. >> So it's more the things that are showing on our site because I'm assuming that legally we can't control it. >> We can't we can't. Well, but we should let them know that, hey, >> they might show up. >> Other parent has requested that their child not be posted on >> so we can >> the parents sign off on that to let other people know also. >> Well, I think we can only control what the school does. >> That's that what the parents can say, hey, I saw that you

pulled this picture up of my kid. I can't have that. or if it's like a foster kid situation. I feel like most people that are in that like more inner circle are aware that they can't do that. >> But a lot of times people don't even know who a foster >> right now that's one kid that I said that's out there right now three times his dad actually provided two of the photos. >> So I don't know what that means. >> Well that >> I don't. >> Right. So then that that's a slightly different. >> And then I also know of the three boys half basketball team, I'm pretty sure two of the parents are fine, >> but they're on the list. >> Yeah. >> And so they're going, "Why is my son not on

that team right now?" Because I I cut them out, >> right? And I and I think that this gets into a bigger topic when when we have those athletic meetings is being very clear, you know, if if if parents have signed off on this, >> this is what this means when it comes to athletics and posting and all that jazz. So just making sure that they're they're very clear on it, you know. So >> yeah. Anyway, >> you know, a question with that form, would there be an opportunity to put on their yes or no for athletics and co-curriculars? >> Well, To me this you it that gets dicey when you have way too many things to check >> and it's and to me this is an all or nothing thing but they have to

understand that piece >> right >> unless the coaches call you know the coaches will have the list and >> could Marcus have called all three of those parents where spots I don't know I don't >> yeah but yeah like you had some just letting know that this was a blanket precaution for everything. >> Yeah. >> Or on that like question in parentheses, this includes all school associated things like sports, extra, >> right? >> Are we able to have some kind of a disclosure on there that this is basically the school media, but we cannot control what pictures other schools are posting or other on some states. >> Well, that's that's it. It's we we have to be very clear in spelling this out because you know, we can't control other districts. >> Well, then I

guess like >> both the girls basketball pages are not district pages. >> Can I post anyone on that? That was partly when we were trying to consolidate the pages, wasn't it? That we did not have those additional >> groups out there. >> Well, >> regarding our our applic. >> Yeah. But also, >> well, I mean, you do it at your own risk of a parent, you know, >> coming after you for >> Yeah. >> Right. >> And I just think we should respect, you know, the parents wishes. It's not, >> you know, do the best we can. That's kind of do the best you can is that there's a difference between a kid in the background during an action shot >> that is on the no list versus posting >> star of the week and

whatever like >> you want to avoid maybe specific names then for those children. >> Yeah. >> Whatever. I don't know how it's I don't know how it's stated but just to not have them stick out. >> Well, yeah. about those those pages and volleyball too it and it's student it's student le pages >> they usually know more than we do though who's on the list and who's not some sometimes some of them might not know that somebody's >> well if a kid >> you know he may he or she may disagree with her parents about being on the list but if they're on it then >> I'd and taking certain pictures to say step aside or have a star over your face. I mean, take your pick. >> And I think that's where the coaches

could kind of step in and say. >> Yeah. They in this case, they didn't know. I did the whole photo shoot, wasn't told anything, and the whole idea for the photo shoot was to get that banner up, right? And um I just thought since it has a banner, I was going to post it because boys need something and um not realizing >> and so then when that went down and I you know you were in the office when I walked in here to pick up Mie and I asked do you know why it went down? No. I reached out to Brad. Do you know why it went down? No. Let me ask Marcus. He got back. No. But I only think it I think that they're still all on Instagram. >> Exactly. >> Just not

on Facebook. >> And it and it I can go take that down. I just just before the meeting I was just like I'm just curious and looking at well there's this kid here and there's this kid over here and oh there's that post I did that got took down off Facebook but not off Instagram. And so again, that was my doing and my fault. Um, and no arms, but but it's this is a work in progress and how do we address it? You know, like I said, in my time of coaching, never had that. So, >> yeah. >> So, it's just a different it's a different beast there. So, >> okay. I would say on the topic of I'm I'm seeing a lot of positive responses by pushing a lot of stuff. Um again, I've

shared this with Pete. In my point of view, um social media is a really easy lipstick on a pig. You can make things look really good. It's my job. I have to do it for our job. Um, sports in particular, so many people create identity in sports and our community. That's the sport that's that's the team that's sitting in their community. Um, you guys have a referendum coming. When I sit there and look in the stands, there are so many non student fans sitting there watching these games. And that that to me for that kind of a referendum situation is a non- studentent taxpayer. We need to figure out how to hit. And social media is free and it's easy. for some and it is too bad that it's just parents trying to make this

work. Um, and again, I will back up. It I think it needs to be more than just sports, but you don't hear at the bar somebody talking about Betsy combined two elements together in science class. They're talking about how Alyssa stole six steels and the fast. So, it's partly why I do it. >> And when you're doing the shoot, the kids >> light up and feel like it's like a huge morale boost at the beginning of the season. >> They love it. >> When they see their stuff on the district page or whatever, they're just >> and getting to have what they're doing. >> Yeah. All right. Anything else on that topic? >> Other than that, we just have to be sensitive to parents wishes. So, >> just coming. >> Okay. All right. Um, next

item is open enrollment seats for 26 27 year. So, just everyone knows I have Brad on the phone here. So, he's >> Hello. All right. So, with the open enrollment seats, uh it's a requirement by law that we provide both uh our overall open enrollment uh numbers and caps um in January and it has to be board approved as well as the special ed um uh seats that we have for open enrollment. This is for the 26 27 school year. Um the open enrollment window begins in February and goes through April. >> Okay. >> Have the caps changed from what we currently have? >> Uh no. >> Okay. >> So we can take action on this next school uh regular school board. >> That is correct. >> Okay. So >> all right. So everybody take

a look at that. So, I know the special ed one, there's a lot of moving parts and numbers, but when it comes right down to it, it's at the very end, it'll show this available seats, right? So, that goes with our early childhood special ed, which is uh three year olds up to grade three fit in that, but it's typically your uh three-year-olds and four year olds that fall within that. um elementary, middle school, high school, and then our two other providers, speech, language, and occupational therapy. So, okay. Any questions, concerns? Okay, let's move to the next item, charter leader teacher statements. All right, so uh this was a a topic that's been on the docket for a while here. Um and And just having a a conversation during the governance board meeting about this

you know I got uh approximate times from from Eagles Academy uh which you see is that 10 hours per month roughly and then public monastery it's one and a half hours per month and if we did strictly fisc or financial compensation that's kind of where I would recommend it but um thinking about this differently and how could we do how could we provide um you know a non-financial compensation um or or figure out different routes that we can go with this and and one idea is you know uh especially for Eagles Academy which has a larger load for that lead teacher is providing a sub for a day or something of that nature. So um just know that the topic's not done yet. So, okay. So, >> is that like a sub for the day

per month? >> Yes. Okay. >> Yeah. So, [clears throat] to help alleviate some of that. So, >> okay. So, school calendar. >> All right. >> Draft. >> Yes. So, uh, what I had is, um, I I know that [clears throat] the leadership team, uh, has previewed this. We've tried to solicit more information or more questions and and whatnot from staff. We're going to talk about it again on Wednesday with the leadership team and just make sure uh that this jives uh but I wanted to get that out in front of the board and see if there are any uh questions that are possible. Um as you look at it, it is eerily similar to uh the pattern for this year. So um so no difference. Uh the only thing that that is going to be

a quandry is if there is a change in law, which there's been some significant discussion at the state level about repealing the September 1st start date. And I just want to make sure that we we have that in the back of our heads. If if that does change, does that change our outlook on what our school calendar looks like? Okay. Do we maintain that start as September 1st as shown here or do we uh look at you know some other option i.e. If we start a week earlier, could we have all students end by Memorial uh weekend? I know Northwoods, they have the benefit of an all charters all charter district. They can do that. It's a traditional side that locks us in with that September first start date. So that makes sense. So, >>

so are we anticipating that they will change that or is it >> I I think it's a m right I think it's a matter of timing because they I I will say the largest proponents of that September 1 date has been the uh tourist the tourism uh industry they really push for having students available to work you know all the way through that time frame. So if school starts sooner, they just lose help sooner. So >> right. >> So it it it sounds like it's gaining some traction, though. So just want to make sure that you're ready. >> Stay tuned. >> Absolutely. >> All right. The next item on the agenda is the board meeting schedule. >> Check. Um, I I know that typically with the board meeting schedule, I I brought that to the

board in that April May time frame. Uh, but I I feel like with the circumstances that we're looking at right now, it's better to get out in front of it so this is approved and out of the way. Um so so the same basic same first weekend uh for committee the whole third weekend for regular board right with changes for holiday and the the the only big one that that is different as always is the October uh time frame because you run that annual meeting along in conjunction with your regular board meeting >> and you want to have that as late as possible. So otherwise it follows very much the same pattern. So >> all right >> and we're good with putting that on the agenda for passing. >> Absolutely. >> Approving next uh regular

board meeting. >> Okay. Hockey co-op. >> All right. Um, I know that Hannah and I have been contacted by a parent and well, one directly and then a couple indirectly about uh starting off with a girls hockey co-op. Um, the the parent feels there's some really good traction in in our community to support that, but it's uh looking at the hurdle at the um at the Superior School District. that's where they want uh to have this uh co-op run through. Their kids are already in in the the programs there and they want to continue into high school. Unfortunately, they've run into a little bit of a roadblock. They they've identified it and they want to pursue moving forward with something here. >> So, what is the roadblock? Superior does not want to or >> uh

it's more of one person in particular. Um and the uh they feel like the the superintendent and the board president are on board with this move. >> Um but it's another person in the admin chain that >> like athletics or something >> potentially. >> Okay. So, >> so is that are they asking >> well >> us as a district to help >> facilitate this or >> so so uh what I have there is is the the message that was sent to me um trying to persuade uh the opening of the door of that uh potential for a co-op but I also need to make sure that the district wants to have that as well Would it have to be boys and girls? >> Not initially. I I would say that you're kind of opening that

door if you go girls and then boys. So, >> it's girls first. If we have more girls sports, we're okay. Then if we have more boys sports, >> not necessarily. Anyway, uh it's at least starting that conversation as far as girls hockey because we we do have students that or we've already had an impact of girls hockey in the district. So, >> so do they have approximate costs and then >> that what would our our transportation requirements be >> right that's the stuff that we would have to figure out and where this would go. If if it's a non-starter here, I mean, I'm not pursuing anything. So, >> and they actually they need the numbers in security. >> Uh, as far as players, >> I will say that uh that's the concern of this parent

and others that the the numbers are going to drop significantly here. So, >> and they're already co-oping with Northwest Western. >> That is correct. >> So, so do they have to qualify up there for hockey? Yes, >> I would think they have a cut. they they they will be running out of numbers to have both your varsity and your university. So, >> I could see the benefit for us to offer more options because we don't have a ton of options and I see why this parent like if they've already been part of the superior league of like that would be an easy one because they continue with those same players. >> But also like we have Hayward and Spooner Right. >> Would that be a better fit for us to cooperate? >> I hear you.

The I think your expense is going to be very much the same. Your travel time is where it's going to get kind of interesting. Um, I I know that um I know a little more about the Hayward uh hockey program and they they've got co-ops with good gracious >> Spooner uh Shell Lake. There was uh students from Baron that were going up to Hayward to participate in that which I don't know how they did that but if we look at travel time alone that Superior is going to be your best bet, right? So anyway, >> I mean, even the city of St. Paul has one hockey team for the whole city. Um, and they basically co-opted with four different high schools. >> It just kind of baffling, but >> So, does it overlap with any

of our other programs where it might affect some of our other >> enrollment in other sports? be girls basketball at the same time right now >> because they start usually from the end of like I want to say the hockey program she starts the end of October beginning of November >> and then runs through state is at the beginning of March >> well we probably need to hear from Nathan too to see what he >> um I've had some preliminary conversations with him and um from my from what I'm gathering the individuals that are involved with this have not necessarily been involved with girls basketball at this point. So, >> well, it sounds like a very specific couple of players. >> So, would it open the door for other kids that are currently in >>

to go? >> It's hard to say. Yeah. >> You know, we kind of had that with the when we decided to do the the track, >> right? >> We were looking at opposite spectrums, but then there was a lot more that were >> Yeah, this pretty specialized sport. I I just can't imagine someone at seventh grade deciding, well, I'm going to be on the hockey team as a good luck. >> I know that I would disappear. There was a handful that did, but it was because at that point, if they didn't, they wouldn't have a girls team. So, it was like friends like, "Hey, I need you to play so I can play." >> Yeah. And I lean more on the side of providing more opportunities for people to >> get a little bit more,

you know, >> I guess for for me it's it's getting that green light to to pursue this to get more information and to really try to push this envelope. So, >> okay. Do you want a motion on that or just a nod of the head? I mean, because we should there's nothing um you know, getting more information is never a bad thing. So, >> so so that is just more of getting a nod because you're not approving anything particular. It's just getting more gathering more information what the expenses are going to be. Is this a possibility? And and making connection with both the suit >> as well as the board president and just feeling where this is going to go. So, anybody have any >> I support getting information. So do I. >> Okay. Agreed,

>> Brad. >> Yeah, I'm okay with that. >> Okay. Uh, middle school math teacher position. I'm assuming by the what you posted, we don't have anybody that applied directly for that position. Um, well, yes. Uh, we did have someone apply about a month and a half ago, two months ago, and then promptly ghosted and and and like fell off the face of the earth. Um, and then we had another one that showed up on Indeed and that person backed out. There was another one that was interviewed and when Ann did reference checks um some serious red flags came up and probably was not a wise idea. >> So no viable candidate >> that would be accurate. So uh we're trying to look at you know what are some other options here. Um, this is something

that Ann ran across. I don't know if you want to talk more about the approximate >> is before you start. Is our middle school uh math teacher on leave now? >> She is. Okay. [snorts] >> Yes, it was vote approved. >> Y >> I just know. >> So, the situation we're running into is not having a consistent person in that role um for the remainder of the school year. And so it's really difficult having a different person every other day stepping into that classroom given the um scope and sequence of the curriculum that Kelsey has outlined for the remainder of the year. And so this came across my desk and you know kind of brought it to Pete's attention and so we did meet with them um before break back in December just to kind

of gain a little bit more information. and you're able to do it by hour um and what your needs are. They are able to use your current curriculum depending on what we want to do as a district um tying them into our student information system. And so this person would be instructing virtually while we have another person in the classroom um helping with that supervision piece. And so that learning would be taking um place virtually with that instructor. And would it be a live virtual, not a recorded? >> It would be live >> less. It would be just live. >> It would be live. Yep. >> Yeah. Um and then we also have the opportunity of providing them a planning period where they could also work with the the rest of the middle school team.

So when they meet as a PLC group, they're able to also be a part of that conversation and just kind of, you know, like they're here and being a part of, okay, what's going on? What are we working on? Um, so that's kind of I don't know if I missed anything, Pete. Um, but >> so do we have the capability to have two-way communication with someone on screen, student has a question? >> So, as you see in the um information provided, they do provide um a setup and just that onboarding and technical support. So, they'll provide us with the the camera, all of the technical pieces that we would need to um to have in our classroom in order for them to have that back and forth. >> Right. I think the biggest thing that

we would have to accommodate is all the students have a uh Chromebook um but they would also need headphones with a mic because it's every student is being funed online. >> So, would we also be looking at hiring another person to be present in the room? >> That that that's what Ann and I were talking about, too. I think I think we will have some capability with their current staff to do that. >> What type of staff are we looking at like for the supervision? Does it have to be a licensed teacher? Is it a >> It would not that Uh see that would be the thing is that uh they would provide a licensed teacher that would fill that bill. So it's just a matter of that classroom management that we have to cover.

So >> So did you say would they be using what Kelsey has set up for >> how do children achieve like supports outside of this? like say they get home and they're like I didn't understand any of this or you know like how we would typically be able to have a student or a teacher on staff that could actually assist them. Is there something involved with this that can do the same thing or >> Yes. So I think part of that planning period students would be able to have that opportunity to connect with that teacher and then also just that back and forth of if they're requesting help they would you know like with any other teacher to reach out and help facilitate some of that. I've just seen it where it's I know with

my daughter's been online in the past and I just know it's been really really tough for her. I mean she's waited 48 hours before being stuck on the same question because there's no there's no They don't have to respond for that time, right? >> And then you can't move forward. I don't know how this works, but you can't move forward in the curriculum because there's no help. You can't move past that point. >> Right. I think this would be a little bit different in that sense. You're right. There >> I know. Yeah. >> Is this setup fee? Does that include those? >> How are we covering it now? >> Right now, it's is available. >> Yeah, Kelse Ryder did a great job of putting everything together. Has great scope and scope and sequence and stuff

to follow. So that's easy, but it's that >> but it's not someone who can be a long term >> consistent. That's that's the piece that we [clears throat] >> as if how long would it take for them to get it set up once if we approve it? >> Yeah. So, the biggest thing is um they're waiting if we do decide to go this route um we would have to give them notification that this was approved and we sign off on it and then they go and start searching for an individual um position. Uh so I know they said what two weeks sometimes less um >> to get an instructor in the first place and then um set up a time and start doing that on boarding. And so in terms of the setup, I guess

I'm not entirely sure how long or >> it could take a month. >> It could be variable. Yeah. So would the the cost vary then if it if it did take them a month to to get someone with that would our cost be reduced? >> Yes it would. It looks like it's a fivemon minimum which would put us >> it's right in that >> end of May it started >> which is tech five months. >> So we will be saving agent. >> Well so when does when does her unpaid leave start >> unpaid or FML? We're talking more LA part because she's required to provide. So that's more like >> but I thought there was a period she was going to be just on unpaid leave, >> right? And so the additional but additional would

be as of April. I can't remember when her paid >> Okay. I mean that would at least offset the this cost. In my opinion, as a parent, I hate it. I didn't sign my kid up for virtual school. have a virtual option and I know like there we're running out of options but I guess we you know I feel like have to be careful what I say but we've tried this before as far as online classes for middle schoolers with I think we were using whatever and that did not work out well and we're not doing that for a reason. I feel like I know that this seems maybe like the only option and like you said we had it posted but when I look at that and I see that number I'm like are

we posting that much for a sub if we're posting a longer club and willing to pay them that I think we have probably better options and you have somebody in the building teacher and you wouldn't have to have the supervision but >> I I understand what you're saying you know >> well presumably beyond a long-term sub could have applied for this temporary position, >> right? >> And I don't know what the [clears throat] pay was, but >> the reason why it's put on here is simply because that we ran out of options. I mean, we've talked to every sub that we have here and yeah, it's not going to be that same daily rate as a, you know, if they're a long-term sub, but >> you know, um, because this I just as a parent

found out about this by reading the board today, too. It's also exciting as a parent to find out that this is considered like knowing and being able to talk to a handful Nobody has liked this idea. >> Well, someone's got a math teacher in their pocket. I mean, now would be the time to bring it out. I I just don't I don't know if there's any other We're certainly open to other possibilities. I just I'd love to see it. I I just don't know what it is. I mean, may this may be the best of our worst options. And we've been posting basically since the beginning of the year. So it's not like we started in November, December posting the position, >> right? We've been in contact with universities as well trying to really promote

this and that. I don't know. I I look at it too. If you go on weekend, there there are a few districts in our area that are looking for the same exact thing. It's been posted just as long, you know. So that's that's what's makes this challenging. So >> can we contract somebody from the neighboring district? [laughter] >> Not not for that amount. Yeah. Yeah. Not amount not for that amount of time. >> Okay. >> Because then I think you'd be writing the same thing that that you're you're talking about. Sarah still be online. situation. So, >> no. And we're are we have they uh done away with that or provided a waiver for retired teachers yet or is that something that's still >> have to >> right that that was the bill that no

one has an idea what the heck is going on? >> Yeah, it's just so that's just not an option for us. >> It's not right now. But but I would say that since we're talking about half a year, uh we wouldn't have to be concerned about it because the limitation is 880 hours. If you look at half a year, >> actually it's a little less than half a year. They wouldn't they wouldn't uh exceed that at time. So we could have a retiree coming. So, >> is there any way to reach out to any I mean I I don't know if they're on a forum or >> we we have tried reaching out. >> Yeah. So, >> wow. Where's the dedication for five months? >> I mean, the one extended her retirement how many times

can't we just >> Yeah. >> So, >> it's like we keep keep trying. >> Yeah. I I mean I think we're we're at that point that if if anyone has some different ideas or some leads or ways to persuade >> Well, since the book's good till January 22nd. So we should try to decide it on the 19th. Um >> is that going to put us in? >> And I don't know if that's going to buy us more time to I mean it's not two weeks. >> Yeah. And then if set up and everything's going to be up like we're looking potentially end of February before it would be up and running if this is the road we have to know. >> Brad's still on the line. >> He's not. >> Yeah, I lost him. Well,

I I'll guess we could entertain a motion to approve this particular method. And if someone wants to support it, we can do it. Time is kind of the essence here, I guess. So, >> yeah, I I I would think that with that quote, uh it goes through the 22nd. It's beyond the 19th. Um I would just caution. I We're we're we're promoting the fact that we can't find any other viable options at this point in time. Maybe this will stimulate some other conversations in the community. So that's all I can hope for. So >> I would also say like if you can make you know I know like it's the same general post all the time. I don't know the legalities of not include but most of the time when we do post anything on

social media like thing that's posted everywhere, you know, public can be very specific like this is for three hours a day, you know, like whatever the, you know, I'm just going off what this person have on the thing, you know, like there is a like very specific >> I think, you know, yes, conversations are happening and people are ghosting things like that, but >> right people understood the dire need of it, it might change things also. I I would say those are left general for a reason simply because that's the position that's been approved by the board in past is that position full full range. If we get someone that's coming in and said I'm willing to do this, it would still require board action, right? If that makes sense. So, not saying that we

won't entertain it. I'd love to hear anyone that could cover three hours >> because then that gives us something to work with. I can figure out coverage on other stuff. So, >> so Sarah, activate your network. >> I've been badgering lots of people. >> Sign did the virtual stuff and it did go well. I know it's student specific, right? So, whoever's sitting in that classroom is gonna be the one that's like, "Hey, pay attention." >> Yeah. So, >> all right. So, we tableabling or doing a motion? >> Table. Okay. >> Harass all your teacher friends. >> Yeah. whatever we can do to get the word out. And >> can you give a little bit more information on the position entails and what the hours and all that? >> Um I think the this proposal >>

we can provide the specific Yeah. With with the schedule. Yes. >> Yeah. >> Send that to you. Yeah. >> Oh, okay. So because it's generally primarily three classes, I know that there's uh some instruction with Eagles Academy that falls in there as well, but that that is easier to absorb than than the three specific classes for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade. So th those are the critical pieces. >> Okay. Well, let's try to double down and see what we can find in the next two weeks. All right. So, we did administrative position and I think at this point we can move into close session. Uh, so convene in close session pursuant to Wisconsin statute 19.851C to consider the employment promotion compensation or performance evaluation data of any public employee over which the governmental body has

jurisdiction or exercises responsibility. And we'll do that at 7:04. >> I'll make a motion. >> I'll second. >> Okay. [clears throat] [snorts] >> Okay. >> Motion. Oh, sorry. All in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. We are now in close session. Do you want me for this one or not?
