issued. >> Oh, okay. What do we need to do? >> I already sent them an email. >> Oh, come here. >> Thank you. I just want >> that also the started about 7:30. So, let's uh >> hold up your side of the table here. >> I will hopefully weather clean up all the frozen oranges down next year. Yeah, it was every night someone quite big. just can't trust the system. >> Where's the supposed to be down there. >> Supposed to be 40 I think >> Capri weather. >> I'd like to see him in Capri. >> Yeah, >> me too. Yeah, that's >> I think the police, too. >> Don't you for >> I just wear my binoculars spring break down there. Truly 25th 19th April seven weeks to be a mermaid. I just sent you

an attachment which will be the only handout that we'll have tonight. So, it's in your email. >> Thank you. Okay, 5:30 or close enough that uh like to call the Call to order the school board meeting. Please stand for the pledge of >> allegiance. I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Okay. Roll call, please, please. >> Yep. Black >> Calhoun >> here. >> Hinrich >> here. >> Kersh >> here. >> Cassandra Wolf >> here. >> Long >> here. >> Swinty >> here. >> Beloo >> here. >> Z >> here. >> We have a quorum. Uh I entertain a motion to adopt the agenda as presented. >> I'll make the motion

to adopt the agenda. >> Second. >> Motion a second to adopt the agenda as presented. Any deletions, changes, additions hearing. None. All those in favor signify by saying I >> opposed. >> Thanks. Motion carries. Thank you. Staff recognition. Uh on behalf of the Tomok Board of Education, we would like to take a moment to recognize Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Evans for their outstanding leadership and dedication to strengthening our school community. And I would like to thank everyone and its names I can pronounce. Typically I can't. Beginning in November during parent teacher conferences, they invited families to participate in a parent book study centered on middle school superpowers raising resilient tween in turbulent times. That's a book. I didn't know that. Uh interested parents signed up and received a copy of the book and Mrs. Hall

and Mrs. Evans thoughtfully planned an evening of dinner and discussion focused on its key themes. The night was filled with meaningful conversation, shared perspectives, stories, advice, and even a few laughs as families explor explored both the joys and challenges of raising middle school students. We are incred incredibly proud of these seventh grade team members for taking the initiative to lead this experience and for generously giving their time and energy to help make our school community stronger. So, if you would please come forward. >> If you knew we had to come, >> let's congratulate. >> Thank you very much. >> Thank you. >> Appreciate. >> Well, this is really nice. Yes. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> We didn't expect this. just >> thank you. >> Yes, we couldn't have done it without your support. It

was really fun to talk to parents about something that had nothing to do with it. Was there any one major thing that came up, you know, like one theme that kept coming up or >> um I would say we spent quite a bit of time talking about the influence of social media. >> Um that would be one thing that definitely came up like just challenges they feel at home, things we see at school, how it impacts relationships. I It was a positive conversation. Um, and then we did talk about in a future book. Um, what's that one? >> Yes, the ancient generation. >> Um, they seemed they seemed like willing to entertain the idea. I mean, I think everybody went into it not really knowing and there was a moment like after the first hour,

hour and a half, there was like this lull and I was like, you guys don't have to stay here. Like, we don't And then all of a sudden the parents just started interacting and we were there for like another 45 minutes. Like it was just I mean it was really truly there was tears, there was laughter, there was like it just felt good to talk to people that understood what they were going through and seventh grade's a hard year. So it was it was just kind of nice to get a chance to interact with them. >> How many did you have? >> We had 12 people that signed up and took the books and we had 10 that followed through and came on that evening. Two were ended up being out of town. So, and

I we um we advertised it at the first round of conferences. Any of the parents came in, we just kind of told them by word of mouth and then we sent it out through um an email, our parent contact email. Um and so we thought for the first time ever doing it that that was pretty good participation. We also have a very involved group of parents in this class. So, it was a good year to try it. So, >> great. Excellent. and do it again. >> You know, it truly let itself after, you know, we initially got it started. The parents >> just did the talking and talked about hardships and things that they had in common and it was it was really cool to see. So >> great. >> Yeah, we would do it

again with the anxious generations. It's our book study plan for the next year. >> But it was it was very nice because we did apply for a grant that got denied. Um and I believe it was denied because the kids didn't benefit like they didn't see that the kids were directly getting the stuff even though my theory was that the kids are benefiting if their parents are getting the information. So we'll try again next year. Um but then Mrs. Boulder did come through and like it really to make this happen. Um, and I think it did benefit to have the book right there on the night of conferences and say, "Hey, if you're interested, like we want you to have the book whether you come back and talk to us or not, like here's a

copy and um then it was nice to actually see how many of them really followed through and and actually showed up. So, it was good." >> Yeah, I think that's probably too much detail. I talk too much to thank you for recognizing it. So, >> thank you. >> Not necessary, but thank you. >> I see it as an opportunity to give them hope, too. That there's more than just them struggling with something. We all went through it with our kids or, you know, >> so very nice. Thank you. >> Thank you. And that and that was cool to hear. And that's what brought the tears I think is that they related all the parents did. So it was it was very motivational and positive talk and yeah and lasted a couple hours. I mean longer

than normal like like what a normal book talk would last. So that was kind of neat because it was emotional. We weren't expecting that but it was really good. >> It was nice. see the parents raising them. Like in a lot of times if it's your oldest child, you don't know like what your kid turns into in seventh grade. You feel like, you know, it's not normal. And to sit with people who deal with 75 of them every day and assure you this is normal. Like you know, like we even high like double highlighted in the book that your kids lie. Like >> like it's just normal. like, you know, how do you respond to it is the really important part, but all of this stuff is and I think sometimes for them to hear

like I'm still doing okay and is my kids going to get through this and get the perspective of us having to deal with them like all day and like see that was was good, too. So, it was a it was kind of a win-win. So yeah, and it would have been neat. Um, you know, not every parent comes to conferences, but I mean it would have been cool to I guess somehow got it out, you know, to even more people because not every parent is there. But it was I mean, we tried our best and it was good how it worked out. >> Yeah, >> we said more people probably would have showed up. more parents come to conferences. But yeah, we did what we could. So >> I think we would have been quieter

in too big of a group. We talked about that too. We might have had to split into two groups if it would have been too much bigger. >> It was a comfortable number. >> It was just right. >> Great. Thanks again. >> We don't have to stay. take me with you. >> Okay, district administrator report. >> So, just a few things tonight, but I want to start out with um first in the consent agenda and in the next item here, agenda item, you're going to see we had four retirees that have turned in their letters. So, want to honor them and recognize them. Caroline Hansman, who's a current fourth grade teacher. She's completing her 26th year in our district and will be retiring at the end of the year. Linda Van Stridon is currently our

elementary de students. She's got 29 years in our district. She's a longtime elementary teacher and last couple years, is it three years now? Two years. I think it's her third year, right? Third year. Yeah, third year as a dean of students. Doing a great job there. >> Um Diane Langberg, long time elementary secretary. So she's finishing up her 25th year. And then Dave Guthier, who is uh has been in our district for 42 years. So he will be retiring um is in the process of retiring now, but um but Dave has served both as a custodian and as a spent par professional as well. So long time Dave's been in our district a super long time. So >> that's 122. >> It's a long time. Yeah, there's a lot of years there. So >> a

lot of wisdom. >> So yeah. and two of them I taught. >> That's how old I am. >> Well, take the W. I wasn't going to go in there, but >> and u you know with retirements, it's always exciting to welcome new faces to our district as well. And we recently uh had a candidate that we interviewed for our high school counselor position. Um so really excited about this individual. She had an excellent interview. She's got great credentials. She's finishing up her uh her degree. she was done in May and she's actually agreed to uh start a little bit early with us so that she can get uh finish up that last little bit of her practicum but then hit the ground running and be familiar with our district going into the next year. Um,

one of the key points that we were looking for in Canon is some knowledge around ACP. And um, not only is that an interest of her, but she also has worked with Lexi Allen and Rylander who when she was going through the practice and she actually had a lot of really fresh and good ideas, especially for a school like ours, it's adopting more of a team approach to this. So, we're excited to bring her in. We're excited to get her acclimated to our district and get her started. I know Kayla Helt and um Jennifer Bumir and Jennifer Bulmier is our guidance secretary and Kayla's currently a lone wolf in that department. So traditionally we've had two counselors so this is just it's been a difficult one to build but we're really excited to have really

high quality candidate come in and they're both really excited to work with it as well. So um so that'll be highlighted on there as well. Uh reminder that we have parent teacher conferences this Thursday and it's paired again with our annual showcase. Our principles, our teachers, uh Mark has taken taking the lead on this showcase idea that um is is growing by the year, right? So it's bigger than it was last year, bigger and better included. You have a handout here with a with a guide. This is obviously geared towards families of course, but it's open to the public. It's followed by our the spring concert or the pops concert. required. It will begin at 7 p.m. So, um, we're hoping to get a great turnout for this event. A lot of teachers have put

a lot of work into it and as you'll see, you know, especially in the upper grades and, uh, it's more of a it's more of a studentled conference, which is something we've been trying to get to gain traction for a long time and we're starting to really see some movement in that direction. So, we're hoping that it adds a little something to conferences. It gets more people involved in conferences and coming, especially at those upper levels. Uh, but there's also a lot more to showcase around here than just a meeting with your kids teacher. And we want to make sure that, you know, a lot of the great things that are going on here are on showcase at least, you know, one time a year where we can get people in our building. >> And

and that was the handout that I uh sent over to you. So, if it didn't go through, >> I saw it. >> Okay. >> Um, just a a couple other just quick updates. I did attend the broadband coalition. They had a public information meeting. Um that group has done a really really good job of making sure that there's broadband access across Lincoln County. They have the vast majority of the county has access to cable uh internet at this point and fiber optic inter uh internet at this point and only just a couple of small areas that are very remote have to rely on um on help me out. So hotspots. Thank you. Not the hotspots, but the Starlink. >> Starling >> with the Starlink. So, just a very small portion. What they're shifting their gear

towards right now is focusing on what people are using broadband for across our county and how they could better service that, provide resources to, you know, help bolster certain things. And so, they're having a few of these um public information meetings try to gather as much information as they could. So, it was a pretty robust conversation. Um, actually, Dean Alderton will be heading to the room tomorrow to follow up and give a little more perspective from a tech director standpoint. And um but that's that's some good work that's happening there. We're happy to be a part of it. Um and then the last thing we just a quick update. So Ryan Flynn and I will be meeting next week. We do have our some of the promotional materials that we have been developing and working

with Dacttronics to develop for the video board in our uh fieldhouse. So, we'll be putting together a strategy very soon to start reaching out to potential donors in that and lining some things up. So, we're excited to start that up as well. That is all I had on my list. >> Okay. Any questions for Window. >> Okay. Thank you. Okay. Then I entertain a motion to approve the uh consent agenda as uh presented and discussed. >> So, second >> second. Motion a second to approve the uh consent agenda as presented. Any further discussion on anything? Hearing none, all those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. >> Opposed. >> Motion carries. Uh nine, strategic planning spotlight. >> Yes. >> Anything with that? >> Well, just the the updated card is there for you uh

to review. And um I saw a couple of requests come through. So I hope hopefully everybody could get access to it. And um so you'll you'll see on there we just updated it with our midyear data. Um and you'll also see in the reports in some of the reports there's some information that pertains to some of the uh action strategies that are taking place to to meet some of those numbers. So if you have any questions about this or the progress uh thus far, myself be happy to address it. >> Any questions? Okay, 10 is the uh staff reports. Any questions for any of the staff members on the reports? No. >> Okay. Appreciate providing though. I think everybody enjoys reading them and what you have to offer. Appreciate a lot. Thank you. >> I'm

particularly pleased to see the increase in their reading in their math scores at our elementary school level which obviously will raise things as it moves through the system. >> At least hopefully, right? Ideally, >> really smiling. >> That's that's a good sign. >> Okay. Item 11 is to approve the quarter 2 finance report. Uh any comments on anything from the finance committee or anyone on that? just basically an update on the on the capital 146 list for capital projects and rip repair schedule right that's basically the main updates that's things that we covered so >> okay where we should be at this point >> and I assume this is a recommendation the finance committee to approve >> okay so I'd entertain a motion to approve the quarter two finance report >> so move >> second

>> motion is second to approve quarter two finance reported. Any further discussion? >> I have a question on the I didn't know if Harland would address this or not, but on the roof replacement schedule, it um it said that those that were done in the summer or there's like a duplicate of 115. Um >> Oh, it's got chain >> if Yep. If you're >> It's not that already. >> When did we Okay. And then did you get >> Well, darn you. I I try to be so careful and um And did you replace one maintenance truck or two? >> Just one so far. >> Okay. That was on there twice, I guess. >> Well, >> you changed that too, right? >> There. No, there is another There's another. >> Yeah, we've got another 24 year

old that's actually because you had two as completed projects from 2022 to 2025. Well, >> okay. All right. >> There might be a duplicate there. Maybe you did catch a step. >> There's two replace maintenance trucks that it was done. >> Okay. >> Just one of them. Just one was done. >> Okay. All right. >> And I have no further questions. >> Okay. Thanks, De. Okay. I have a motion and a second to approve the quarter 2 finance report. Any further discussion? >> All those in favor signify by saying I. I >> opposed. Motion carries. Uh capital projects list update. Anything on that? >> That's what we >> Oh, that's right. Okay. And Arlland, you're going to give us a report now on the building grounds priority. >> Leads into our funfilled summer. And if

anybody's got spare time, come on down and join us. Um, one of the things that we're taking care of, and this is going to actually be more spring break time, is uh the rerouting, retiling of the pool. Um, it's just it's that time. Uh, if you might remember those that were here when we redid the the pump system for the pool, >> one of the things that I had changed out of that point was the type of chlorine that we use. So, the new type that we switched over to not attack the the grout, the concrete like the other one did. So, that'll also help extend our life once we get this back in shape. Looking forward to that. As usual, we're taking care of the fieldhouse and gym floors. You know, the resurfacing, it's

uh prolongs their life and it's also a safety factor for the athletes that are on those Um the roofs want to say more about that or no we've got the roofs in there and we have a long-term schedule now that's been put together. Uh that was something the board requested a year or two ago um to make sure that we don't end up where we had a while back. So and now also with the changes with the insurance companies and all that. We we have those now positioned out there so we know what to expect and on what years we're looking to do those. >> Um the uh playgrounds uh we're going to be replenishing the wood chips. Um especially with the newer, we've got a lot of settling and we need to make sure

they're back up to the legal limit for safety and show you guys. There's actually a mark on the poles now of the newer equipment that shows you where we need to be for that safety factor is just getting those back in. I'm sure we're getting a lot of compression with all the extra snow this year, but it's nice to have snow. Uh sixth grade lockers. Um we're looking to replace the section there that is a really old section. it uh it's already been getting uh scavenged to keep the seventh and eighth grade going, but they're so old there's there's no parts available. So, our plan is is we replace that section. We're going to take out everything that's still functional that we can. That'll buy us more time for the the seventh and eighth grade

lockers. We keep those going until we need to make that change as well. Um We've been going through the board's already seen this and approved this. Our long-term plan of updating, you know, our bathrooms, getting them uh, you know, handicap accessible and just up to date. Our last ones, we're looking to do the across from the base room, part of the high school. That's still part of the build of 1959. They held up a long long time. It's it's impressive, but they're they're tires. The other thing that uh we have on our list, uh we're looking to possibly break this into two pieces, is continuing to just upgrade our water lines in the building. Uh mostly our main feeds. um just they're showing their age and uh we're getting you know before we have a

major problem we need to get that taken care of uh this year this summer we're going to also make sure that we get the high school parking lot cleared out from the dirt it'll be nice to have that leave that uh we're also looking to bring on a paint crew with our normal just annual changing of classrooms and all that, the upgrades that we do on a regular basis. We've got any needs there, but I'm sure you guys have blocked this school. It's a huge building and there's always stuff that needs to be kept up before it gets away from us. It's just there's a lot here. So, we're going to be taking care of more of that this year. Um the shot foot and discus area want to get that um updated a little

more. It's it needs some help. It's it's been too many years and I've neglected and just you know the grass is making its way under the sand and all that. So just working with the coaches that'll probably be more late summer, early spring when we get the coaches input too and make sure we're we're getting them what they need and get that looking good for our school. Uh we're also looking to you know time allowing uh we want to start repairing some of the sheds the sport sheds that are out here. Um we managed to get our some building materials sighting materials that we have actually installed right now that we're looking to repair those and then get them repainted. Get those back up. the um Rapid Perry school building. I think most of you

have have had the pleasure of going out there. Uh we need to replace the electrical for that. Um because of its age, the last fire inspector is requesting that that part of that be changed out. We got that on schedule and that pretty quick. The skylights project uh for those who don't know, they're extremely old. They're leaking gaskets and everything just giving out the plastic that's showing it age and just UV feeding on it. And we've looked at the prices of just replacing them and that it's it's steep. So, what we're looking to do is as we replace the roofs, start replacing those too. Some of them we might need to cap a little early, but just get those removed and then get the lighting correct inside the building where those are coming out. You

know, the natural lighting is nice in most areas, but in those hallways, the one problem you have is, you know, when the cloud moves in front of the sun, all of a sudden you get a shadow and it just makes it look like the lights just in there. So once we get a good steady light level, it'll it'll be much more mentally satisfying for the students. U I've been working with the the DNR still and also with the uh Steven's Point um the director of the LEAF program and that we're looking to be you know, harvesting some wood that's overdue. A lot of that got popped into on hold when we hit CO and still trying to get all that straightened out, but that uh that needs to happen and also we have a possibility

of working with uh Le and Stevens Point and actually them having a class potentially to come out and watch the harvest if they can get all their steps in a row for that. That would be nice to bring people into our school and some >> um curb and some of the parking repainting. That's the uh the yellow stripe that we have in front where the kids are getting off the bus. There's actually aggregate that's put into that paint to make it non slip. And so we need to just keep that refreshed every few years so that you know the kids aren something that's as slick as the ice that we've been fighting this year. Uh the other thing that we have on there is working on tunnel ventilation. For those of you who don't know,

we actually have a tunnel system under the old mer of the school. Uh it is an open earth type tunnel and so it leads back to where our file rooms are and so we're always fighting a moisture level issue in there and gives us a interesting aroma. So, we're looking to see if we can find a cost effective way to deal with that. And that's uh pretty much it I have on the list. Any questions? >> Any questions? >> Just a couple left. >> One, where do you get your chips from? >> Uh we get them from Crescent. They have to be certified playground wood chips. >> Okay. So you can't just like go to the mill and use those on the playground. >> Can't do that anymore. >> They have to come with a

certificate that says that they are >> Yeah. >> So they're wood chips. >> They are wood chips, but they are humbled and treated. So they don't have the sharp jagged >> those slivers. Oh jeez. >> Then the other thing you you said something about the school forest bringing in students. Is that students from W Stevens Point? That would be a Stevens Point run program, but it wouldn't be just Steven's Point. They would be putting it out in the state. I don't have a lot of details on that. That was just something that the Stevens point and the individual that runs that program up there for the state was asking the possibility. I was just thinking if that might be something, you know, find out what it's more about. Might be something for our students to

see that might have an interest in forestry or going along those lines to go, you know, spend some time out there and see that. >> So, you checking the school forest out in Wilson and those are up there or which school are you looking at? >> Most well, we need to harvest from the Ncomomas plot. >> Okay. and also from the zenith or >> there's a couple >> our biggest forest sections out there. >> Yeah, there's a couple up in the com >> there's well there's some very rapid one. >> Yeah, >> that one is has not been tagged that's needing to be harvested yet. But there's some of the hardwoods in the one that's more of that as well as quite a bit in the Wilson school. Yeah, that needs to be taken care

of. It's doing well. down that >> does the Prairie Rapid School get used at all or future thoughts or I know the last time out there there was a an aroma out there but has it been used or any thought curriculum wise that it's going to be used? >> No, nobody's going. We just need to >> we'll take a filter. >> I hope I'm not speaking out of place here, but you know, part of it too is, you know, with the travel time with the way the class are shorter classes than they used to be once you get kids loaded on the bus, get them out there. I mean, it really means you're taking up multiple classes in a day. Um, I my personal opinion is I think it would be great if we could

actually use our own force that we have on property. >> You know, we're already using it for some of the bad stuff, but you know, we have Sandy Point Hill that we can look at putting a learning center up there possibly. You know, and the other thing that is when we harvest the wood that that generates funds for maintaining and improving on our school forest. >> You think the high ropes course is still feasible to upgrade or utilize? It's not certifiable right now. >> Yeah, I know it needs work. It's been quite a few years since that's been utilized, >> but I think you know before we stick money in it, are we looking to have a program and and willing to support that otherwise? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I have one more question

on the um >> the fieldhouse floor. I know there was talk last year I thought about we're getting down kind of to the end of it and the amount of times we can sand it down. Is that right? Or is this how long do you think we have left on that? >> That's more of the high school. >> Okay. How how long you estimate on either? >> We might be looking at one more uh full sanding that's probably five, six years out. >> Just something I want to hear from you and the rest of the board here at some point that's going to be coming up. you know, something we need to plan for the capital project was also further out, but it's gonna need to happen. >> The way the gym floors is built,

there's a top wood. That's the part you're seeing. Usually, it's like a maple and then there's a supporting fiber structure underneath that. But once we sanded so much down off of that, that gym's been around good long time. When it served us well, they start to get fragile and then we have to about them starting to snap and creat. >> Sure. >> Okay. Any other questions? >> Thanks for the updates. >> Thank you. It's quite a list. >> Like I said, your sleeves come join us and respond. >> Thank you. >> All right. >> Okay. Okay, next item 13 is to approve the first reading in the following new policies. Uh any comments uh from the policy group on the new policies? Anything that you should be aware of? >> Um no, there were just

some that were added from NEOA and reference to some of these things and updating them because of just the changings like so there's three new policies and you get a list of policies that we've revised. That's two separate motions. So, and um there is one other thing. I started doing a little homework. You know, it's winter. Not much else to do. I found 52 policies that haven't been looked at since 2015. >> So, we're looking at just some of these don't need any revision, but I hate to see something sitting out there for 10 years not being looked at. So, we've looked into let's read through them, see if they need any changes, and we'll just put a review date on them. So, we've acknowledged it. So, we all have a pack of them. The

policy committee has a pack of stuff. >> Better you than me. >> And you do have the policies that will be reviewed for March. You have the access to those too. So, you can look at those split. >> Just warning you. >> Thanks. Okay. and entertain a motion to uh approve the first reading of the three new policies. >> So >> second long >> motion a second to approve the first reading of the three new policies. Any further discussion? >> Hearing none. All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I motion carries. >> Okay. Next item 14 is the revision of the following policies. Uh any anything on that? Okay. No, Colleen gets all our packets together for us and we're all >> okay. >> So, nothing special. >> So, I uh entertain a

motion to approve the revisions to the following policies that are listed. >> I so move the move. >> Second. >> I'll second. >> Okay. Motion to second to approve the revisions to the following policies that are listed. All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. opposed. Motion carries. Okay. 15. Approve the academic technical excellent scholarship recommendations and alternates. Anything there we need to >> Nope. Those are just the lists there. They're the confidential list. They're attached. >> Okay. Any questions on on that? Then I'd entertain a motion to approve the academic and technical excellence scholarship. >> Some move. Second. >> Second. >> A motion, a second to approve the academic and technical excellence scholarship recommendations and alternatives. All those in favor signify by saying I. >> Opposed.
