001cool okay I think so are we officially alive hi everyone thanks for being here tonight um I'd like to start this meeting with roll call to establish that we have a Purim uh John Nicole Jen here Corby Joe Juan Carlos and I'm here as well as well thank you Juan Carlos okay [Music] okay and Could you um read our at the framework for us in Atlanta area school district our mission is that each student will admire the Knowledge and Skills necessary to achieve their personal goals thrive in a diverse Global Society for me to help you solve the building life to meet this Mission the Verona areas will visit their to ensure that every individual has access to the educational social and emotional support it may need to feel valued and affirmed in their unique

002identities and experiences they acknowledge that inequities and power dynamics existence such that some individuals on the basis of their identities face barriers to accessing the opportunities they need to expand success the Verona Area School District is committed to disrupting systems of an effort our mission statement reads from each student will acquire the Knowledge and Skills and necessary to achieve their personal goals thrive in a diverse Global society and leaving novelties thank you has everyone had a chance to take a look at tonight's agenda are there any um changes or is there a motion to approve I move to delay review of the results policy houses these are the second floor in cold motion okay all in favor of approving the agenda as presented with that modification signify with i i any opposed um we have

003a delay so uh our 2.2.3 will be moved to our next agenda so with that we will start with our superintendent report thank you for Parkinson can adjust your team because yeah whatever movies you need to make thank you all right thanks for being here um I'm very proud to celebrate uh the class of 2023 uh which was a phenomenal ceremony that was held here at the at our beautiful High School uh we got to acknowledge and shake hands and I think our 440 plus graduates that came came across our stage and just a great atmosphere um and also very proud that we and then taking some feedback from our community and got it down to an hour 45 and we'll still get it to get it a little bit lower but we want to

004make sure that we acknowledge all of the graduates and am a in a great platform we also took an opportunity to uh thank Miss Pam Hammond for her years of service uh in her last graduation as she's retiring here in the next few few weeks as well as began the inaugural distinguished gifts and that uh honor this year went to Dr Bill casimius who was uh has held on whatever you had in the world Area School District or over the years and you'll probably recognize him for a service service education but first and foremost I want to thank our our graduates for a phenomenal year and take all of a staff that helped them in manufacturing to uh to get across not just get across the stage but we know that they're prepared for the

005next level they're of their Journey so congrats all right next we have a a presentation on our coefficient update uh for our phenomenal athletic director Mr Bill lizema and Deputy superintendent this is Chad Weezy and we're going to turn the show over to them welcome happy Tuesday evening Lord I begin to visit this meeting has been follows around a couple of times uh over the last few more meetings I've had an update uh for all of you um I do have Joel with me tonight and Joel introduce himself uh an email a little bio on you've been with us and so forth that you brought Adam as well and then he uh essentially a kind of a two-part update we wanted to make sure we highlighted all things going on on Athletics the summary of

006all the great work that happened over this school year uh and Joel's going to take care of that we're going to do a little uh connection between our student athletes and results policies uh that I think the board should find interesting that Joel's gonna hand it back to me and we've been kind of working behind the scenes on a proposal we were going to run through the board tonight that we'll have a budget impact I mean looking forward to feedback uh whether or not this was this is uh can assured the needs of our district moving forward and board had for the most part positive feedback or the what we got tonight because I'll actually include that in the annual budget below that will be presented people award here in six or eight weeks ahead

007of the uh if I get a positive control and I need some positive feedback in terms of some of the recommendations uh so that's uh Joel he's a little longer intro and bio and turn the internal Adam appreciate it thanks for having me to see new faces involved too um Joel Simba just finishing up my fourth year now in the district um uh I'm fortunate to now be the District athletic director so we made huge strides compared how it used to be uh we have uh sitting assistant any of these in the middle schools now and there's no schools it's been extremely helpful because it pushes admission forward and it also gets students writing to honestly have different small ways and get a better idea who makes here which is which has been positive because

008you would have individuals that are in the buildings every single day that can relate with the students and you know understand that they're looking but the needs because the needs of the middle school is not the same high school so um that's been an incredible uh Adam Steiner he recently became my assistant Dean during the high school to say he's been helpful with an understatement he's uh you know they've been a shining star in terms of anything that I needed Beyond um he's there for me who really has been uh you know I think it was a mission with us moving into the new high school that we wanted Athletics to be a huge part of a student experience but the reality is with that comes a lot of challenges uh the demand to be

009seated even with the work of Jimmy Hennis who does an incredible job with reservations if that has nothing to do with the demands of a high school season every single year or so but Adam Steiner being able to um take a lot of things off my plate to be able to focus on some higher level initiatives there's a lot of representing to you today has been really really good for us all but I guess that's a nice feel for me wrong let's do it uh Joel give us a little summary Panda where you're at where are you headed everybody um so as I said you know we've had a huge transition in terms of um we've always had a very great history in high school um but I think it was a goal of the

010public board and the community to kind of see the advancements that we've had paid off not only um on the on the on the field and in the water and then all the playing services but also in the classroom and we'll you'll see some of the um great statistics that we've been able to that I honestly didn't even know until we hadn't delve into this a little bit um and I'm pleased to see that uh you know what this really is impacting our students in a positive way not only well during their years within the district but but beyond that as well as congratulation rates things like that um but we just wanted to quickly just put you know we have 26 programs that are still continuing to grow we've added getting two teams such

011as baseball and uh additional soccer teams as well too just giving students more opportunities for truly airport um and then you know you can see what you'll be able to see some of the pictures of the ball too um obviously for a student experience championships is a great thing to have and we've been extremely fortunate and even just in my time here getting multiple state championships which uh is an honor for all students for their coaching staff um and just the school in general uh you know one thing that we implemented that we actually didn't put here is every single time our students do Wednesday Championship we wanted to acknowledge them this on out of a school level so we've actually got a parade essentially business through the halls and that it seems like it's

012gotten pretty good feedback here so that's something that we'll just thinks we need to do um but but you know we're as you can kind of see you'll see in the presentation it's really making a big impact on the student experience um one uh addition so LBI recently probably sent us all the news uh they've added lacrosse as a wi sport now we've always we've had a problem for years um we've actually been extremely successful both programs for example this year our girls program almost made the full run to stay uh difficult difficult ending the end of the season but um they've done extremely well even just as a club and now being able to be a wi sport you know they'll be able to receive funding through US they'll be able to receive not

013a direct oversight through the athletic department too I oversee all the clubs but there's just a difference when you get that the policies everything that goes into play um being a wi remember and more than that now they've been computer championships or NBA championships so um they will their first season will be uh next school year and they're excited to have that uh this is just a quick look at the sports programs that we have you can see the wi Sports on the left there my left and then um the 9wx sports in the right and we'd really just say non-wa sports cheer and dance are just as important as rwi Sports as well too um the difference is the wi just there's a championship of all sports and there's a there's a season kind

014of included okay but um cheers incredible in terms of supporting our football team you probably see them during our football season and trapped everything as well too um our dance team has made huge strides they actually I think it was roughly a year and a half ago started uh Palm group we have a new coach that now she's going to be going into her at least third year with us could be your second sorry I'm wrong there but um she's really made a huge strides in terms of really trying to advance the dance program and we're proud of what you've done they're going to compete in National competitions now as well too um so you know as I said before just because they're certain sports are not does not mean that we value them any

015less and they're just important to the student experience so this is just an example of some of the success that we've had just this past season and you know that's just testing it to our student athletes and our coaches teachers as well too um you know faculty being able to support um like I said that they didn't invade these students want to compete for championships um and you can see some of the stuff every night there we had uh our boys soccer team won a stage championship this past season they won uh another one actually my first year when I started as a bike director um football they were big eight Champions um uh there were 11 qualifiers for for girls swimming there were three qualifiers across the country just that and that's just the

016fall and then on and Windsor Sports um big eight champions for girls basketball WIA State runner-up for boys hockey wi state champions in gymnastics uh wa six qualifiers for boys swimming um for his first state which is absolutely incredible that's just winter and for spring Regional boys track and field Champions uh for the boys big eight Conference champions for girls W.A sectional runner-up for baseball wa sectional runner-off for girls soccer so I mean you can see that our mission is to provide the best experience that we can and our student athletes have truly delivered um and as I said this is just this past school year so you can imagine you know we've had state champions before that um and just the fact that we're just highlighting this one so we already shows the impact

017of their neighborhood um and then this is just another slide that we have uh 60 plus uh All Conference student athletes in respect to sports 20 plus adults reverse t-ball conference 10 plus All State student athletes um and relays in the respect to sports five plus a bill for the first team and we have two all-americans um we also before we talk about 90 academic success uh we we had um one uh voice soccer player who was recently uh named to the Wisconsin gay rate um National player of the year um so essentially you know you couldn't move on to be National period but now he's joined um he's a third the third native Wisconsin period of the year that we've had in the last four years I believe it is we have another one

018and boy soccer and everybody else that running voice tracks so there's a banner and people go downstairs by the field house he's gonna have a banner up it was all over our Twitter account and and um just for this year so been a real honor just to be a part of History uh this next part is just talking about academic success um as you can see so this we are fortunate here we have such a great team at CL that was able to kind of put statistics uh you know to to the eye a little bit and help us understand the true impact of what our cultures do with teachers we talk about um you know that relationship between the reality is there are student athletes and a lot of times if you check our

019Twitter you'll see that uh we we capitalize the suing part and uh because that's the most important part you can't perform if you're not performing in the classroom and long term Athletics is great but it doesn't last forever but what they do beyond that academic baseball matter so you can kind of see here students now participating in that place you know my averages was roughly about 2.96 student athletes happen to three uh 3.46 for attendance um students not participate in place 89.65 and then roughly 94.31 student athletes admin referrals and we see it was way down to 0.05 as athletes versus 0.4 14. um AP Force enrollment you can see just a little bit of jump there for student athletes uh just goes to test them into them challenging themselves um you know in the

020classroom and that's that's that's really what we want them to do um academical Wars big Aid uh uh boys swim and dive you can see they're the highest GPA out of all of our Sports at 3.84 and we hope to highlight that I'm moving forward which is awesome um and then girls basketball highsq and GPA in the same had a 3.95 so we talked about um and they obviously got academic all safe every single member of the team was academic Allstate and this is before we highlighted kind of championships on the field and on the board and water this shows you within the classroom we're still being able to put championships forward there's also at the state level which is awesome so thank you for that and we multiply the time at the end if

021you get the more really that stable back and answer any questions with my dad um I guess as a Segway I certainly wanted to um thank Joel publicly Joel and Adam and the whole team for the work that they do uh and many remarks uh um our Athletic program led by Joel uh many days is like a really good film uh that uh if you go to a baseball game uh and you didn't notice the Umpire was there kids are taking care of their job um and that's the case for Joel for we've hired amazing head coaches Joel none a wonderful job with all of the logistics and Technical work that has to happen behind the scenes and many times his work is also uh and uh Joel and our team went down and absolutely

022outstanding job um and I guess as a segue there uh we're engaging hundreds of students year round in High School athletics and and their engagement on and on and off the court and track does connect closely to our results where I I um I think as a as we uh continue to have a large Comprehensive High School uh it's on us to make sure that we're finding as many things uh either in the classroom or outside of the classroom and they get our 9th through 12th graders out of bed in the morning uh excited to become and some might pop out of that excited or sophomore in English but I think a a higher percentage of them are getting out of bed for arts and theaters and in some cases Athletics meaningful and engaging activity

023when Joel identical job um as a beast of that I'm going to bring forward tonight I um a request from the board um to make uh a phenomenal investment in the overall scheme of a 65 or 70 million dollar budget um and I bring the one that's probably long ordered you know I just thought that Adam on way in how's the summer going uh summer hasn't really started for many of our glitches I've been putting in 60 hour work weeks to make sure that the waiting is open first thing in the morning as I pulled in tonight to the board meeting I looked like we had seven years 85th wrapping up on the track and on the field and those are all of our coaches that are technically paid with salaries but making a dime

024per hour not dollars per hour by the time it's all said that's part of the qualified action tonight uh and that is related to the conversation uh the other piece we're going to talk about is uh work that's likely anyway [Music] and what we've got here will be guidelines that essentially Joel Rochelle and myself uh will uh review on an annual basis and that if the program is growing uh no longer is there kind of the uh behind the scenes or the Joel I'm getting filled here I just picked up 30 extra swimmers and I don't have another image and I please have another vote well let me talk to Chad we really don't have any guidelines I'm not sure he put it in the budget let's see if we can do maybe next year

025uh this starts to take some of that out of uh out of the mix that our coaches will know that as their programs grow incrementally that they'll get extra help to support those student athletes and again in my opinion one of the best bargains in public education is picking up an additional assistant coach at a couple thousand hours a year that's been put in hundreds of hours to engage our kids I don't know uh so this would be the ratios that would be guidelines that have those conversations uh on an annual basis the other thing that would come into play here is part of this project performance on the board body I don't even know what's happening we have programs that have coaches funded by our own uh and that has been one of the

026district workarounds over the decades now that if a program needed another coach and we didn't have it already built into our budget or systematically to review it uh it's been a Wortham hey can you guys on race with broad sales whatever uh to pay for an additional salary um and I'm recommending the board that I'm trying to get out of that business I actually think our booster clubs should be fundraising for lots of nice extras to support our student athletes not the people can work with our kids um I think that's actually the responsibility of our district a team on the field figure out a way that you'll get a budget to refresh our uniforms get into adequate supplies make sure we got adequate some provision adding events make sure we have adults that we

027can put in a spot if there's a safe kind of an adult or student ratio relevant to sporting goodbyes so that's what is available and certainly looking for feedback on the board and I've got uh kind of some costs that we put this was in place so it's really a different step forward understanding one Joel gets some ratios in place and two we're pulling through circle on booster funded coaches out of the mix moving forward in the fall and I think there's an added Domino that off that falls into place here that we have 000 ish being raised on an annual basis by our strip clubs to be people now we paid for the people and our lecture Club can find Athletics in other ways or equipment or team travel or an extra trophy year

028uh that will essentially be kind of a double win for our Athletics for the fund and management foreign [Music] for giving us the revenue authority to do so and give our coaches a long overview raise that can bring us just back to the market in the middle uh in terms of what's going on in game homes and similar size school districts so this is a comparison with where we currently sit relative to similar size school districts in game times um and you can see across the board we're anywhere from 700 to a couple thousand dollars in terms of compensating our approaches whether to be married with other schools uh in line with this the board should know um our salary schedule or Cottages also has other stipended positions in our history an example might be

029a vehicle divisor uh that it's now in our handbook in the salary schedule that we're actually recommending to the Lord we come along on the ride uh with all of this I mentioned uh you know things getting our students out of bed in the morning uh the yearbook does that for some of our kids and we actually believe kind of that makes sense of the yearbook advisor has seen a raise and we have a recommendations before in line with that as well so um we got two recommendations one the one I shared with you relative to coaching ratios and I'll absolutely take feedback and questions on that um and a second will be um the and again our non-closing position we're also getting a salary increase here's what it would look like and what would

030end up in our budget book is I get good forward feedback tonight uh for us to move uh forward with that I'm recommending the school board uh that we do a 12 came to be across the board coaches and our co-curriculars um and that would have a budget impact of 113 000 a year and again uh this hasn't been touched nearly in decade and I I would do this long way to do uh Joel included a couple of examples of what that might look like quite frankly in some cases from many of our head coaches will still be a little bit below the market but we believe this is a good first step to including this year's budget book uh we're also pulling back on all bookstore funding coaches and that will really be a

031net gain for Joel and his coaches as far as that additional forty six thousand dollars that could be fundraised um after that we are also recommending just a kind of a longevity bonus we're going to build into our handle that it accomplishes with us for five years moving forward on their five-year anniversary they've made a 500 bonus and stay with us from our Athletics programs and getting out of the the mix of all of a sudden coming down the steps and wings and the focus or cleaning all of that up that was a lot you guys saw the administrative rule it we put it in our board presentation thank you for hanging with us I have any questions yeah um so just um thank you for sharing all of this information you said there are

03275 coaches how many students total instead of us that we are very experience actually reaching students um but my last question was um satisfying the standard ratios for those should still talk about kind of like what you kind of see from your best practice and it's the idea that every year we would change that if you're like oh it's actually 17 to 1 9 12. well I didn't think that first track of that is so uh we spent uh and Rochelle this text would be 1100 students by this year thank you and so uh related to uh your uh your question on how we came up with these great shapes uh so um and this is really why we ended up in June by Michelle Obama and Adam uh spent the last four months making

033sure we've got these numbers right um and we used a couple of sources one how many student athletes participated which is currently we are supporting those student athletes and then Joel figure out yeah and yeah we've had this coach asked me the last five years for an additional poetry but this justification the other thing we did is we looked at the other ratios of how other um Pro other schools of similar size um how many teams are they putting on the field and uh and what what are the ratios that they hold on and then some some of it just came into student athletes that is conceivable you could run across country and have a hundred Runners with one coach that had a whistle instead of an EV factor in an hour um but that's

034not best practice so we're going to be running around town and a Bunches of kids uh that we'd like to have I make sure that we're also providing the same plan so it took us a while to get there once we got all the way through this um Joel had essentially one-off meetings with all of us head coaches saying here's where we ended up and here's what we're bringing to the board um and you supported this if we bring forward and lastly you all had a couple of coaches it's like I I really want an energy and we had this discussion for next year and Joel said for sure uh this admin will finally give us something kind of concrete equal value to be in recent sessions uh for you building on the equipment I

035think James would allow your students who didn't mean um a difference in to participate in sports for sure or um we might be hanging on to be a bigger jv1 team and you could give even some of the students who already made a team a chance to have having more substantial to play time I didn't miss anything for the last four months ago you know for jv2 some sports don't have cuts for example so then that that also gives you more Mobility there um because there's an impact as we said their own concept of lower level and they're starting main products at higher levels back there so we don't want to release students further obviously they understand that the bar suit is a little bit more competition there but either you want to give them

036an opportunity to find out if they enjoy the sport in the first place and then they know that they have to and there's a little bit of money that holds anything before and then also uh your question about kind of a demographics so we when we originally started the work obviously there was no framework that any of these statistics so um when we were getting them back it would have been too much to present at one time um and it would have made it actually truly just confusing but from you know doing this for a few years now I can say some of our sports for example I mean our our boys soccer team for example one of the most bad horse teams that we have um and we and that was one of the

037first sports that we had about JV since we wanted to make sure that we don't want to lose those students um same thing for you know our cheer team for example if they're going to be now with these ratios being able to add on an additional coach because the numbers we wanted need to grow there's multiple examples of that are you know track our girls tracking and other programs like that as well so so really um what this allowed us to do was make sure we don't lose those so many similar demographics and and that that's kind of the community of the world that everyone so we don't have the statistics there but just you know an overall framework of it all it definitely benefits those vitamins and two more questions one in primary Market

038comparison is that against average or is it a specific school that we're coming against or uh Joel can speak to that I want to say we did a like I wanted to do some prayer the bigger maybe maybe corrective it was it was we wanted comparable with schools that we in reality we need events because that that's where you really kind of see that differentiate HBO and that would attract me that they have extreme real-time coaches and we're bringing them for our team to slice of size uh and my second question is I've had 12 percent is is is that kind of discretionary that you can you can allocate that if you see better as the goal to make all of our coaches of the market theoretically reviewed heading one approach above market and then

039yeah um and this was another reason for this fall on speaker uh Rochelle Illinois had numerous conversations called that uh and uh we think this is a good first step uh that uh 12 got us closer to that market average um and just like the comparisons I had before we see some of them are further off than others uh they're gonna be closer than they were but you'll see that some of the spots have more discrepancy than others in terms of that average um it's also really hard to get this event where there are stories in each district around how people remember the coaching and selling schedule and a few of them were just like that scenes like an outlier and maybe rather than average up but we we did not want to go down

040the road uh at least this year um having to justify you get 8.3 of these you get two uh and we still know again I cannot uh emphasizing our our coaches are meeting their bucks uh they're doing and it would have kind of like taking Advanced uh if you decide that at least addition year uh to try to do a market reset um and made the decision at least this go around continue everyone up um that makes sense thank you I would like to First just address and check the comment you made was that Joel's work goes unsung and I hope we say your name a lot in the states I feel like we do but I just want to be able to say now looking at you thank you for the work that you're

041doing because we do appreciate it a lot and it comes up in the stable frequently enough um yeah so thank you um I have a similar question to Joe so thanks for that question and just providing that flexibility because I think our salary schedule for coaching all I mean there's so many layers to this having been involved in that Batman 20 years ago 15 years ago so thank you for giving us a starting point and I'm I feel optimistic and supportive as a board member on any other dating you feel you want to do to just navigate the the situation that all of that is okay um I'm wondering if this budget also provides some flexibility in terms of co-curricular and I'm highlighting role we can talk about the Middle School level in particular and

042how many applications have you seen to show up at that level that are not athletic in nature but it's still broaden the experience or middle school students and give and write that book to be connected to school and I know from my attention I hope some of that is very flexible right we might have a different Club offering each year sort of based on a teacher or student interest and does this and this administrator will provide you the flexibility to give side hens or kind of those more one-off if you want to get what I'm saying yeah our principals still have some side of these description a extra hours for our salary knows that there's a in-house on experience that might mean a while and certainly you in Spanish like diving deep into that excitement

043if you know um that's the next level we're working but not much potentially the difference here the one thing Joel and I didn't bring up we knew this would be a linear discussion uh was we're um part of the United approaches in this overall budget impact is actually an eventful Athletics um so um the ratios will stick um and we lay Middle School athletics in a little Squad we've like mg and Oregon and we were the only District left in the quad uh that didn't happen to seven paid basketball coaches or two volleyball coaches our approaches were having to actually publish two teams at once um and uh it um it made for I think a less productive uh practice um games I think turned into a little bit of chaos for our coaches to

044actually have to coach two teams in a setting um and I think it made those decisions actually less desirable because the coach to the kid that pretty show was so out of whack so we're actually putting some money into the middle school icon uh [Music] you know encouraging citizens that if you've got one sitting in the room that um our our coaches know our student athletes and tenants and they don't want to embrace um they don't apparently they know what's going on with student athletes lives um and they you get almost a mini academic advisor out of every single person that signs on as a coalition I would expect and I think that's part of the reason you see that I was only kidding about English and giving you a lot of that in the

045morning but um honestly it's part of the reason I'm in this room was a experience I had with a coach in high school that made my high school experience meaningful and I think you asked our 2000 students uh give me a thought for you it also make a difference in their life um you're going to write a bunch of cultures on Netflix and that's all there is to do man I think that's a great Point as well as learning with a good sign they're sitting there I mean a lot of times we'll get emails from teachers that they're saying you know I mean students are always connected to their Sport and they'll reach out to the coach first and say I feel like your students not attending class or their Grace might be falling down

046in one of our expectations for our colleges to make sure they hold their students to a high standard but also they have a relationship that's different I mean these students they're students that will tell them to their face the only reason I'm going to school today because I want to call them practice like that's it and that's just a reality and the cultures are the ones that have that relationship to be able to take that and give feedback in a way that doesn't discourage you from wanting to back off or it actually motivates them to be you know maybe sometimes they say yeah I was that doing too I only do different sports interaction that they have there and as I said I mean when you talk about signer but he's an example of that

047and he does have so many students and our coaching beyond that expensive so they really are advisors they they do a job that I honestly don't think I can do but I tell that to their face all the time I would just like to say I think you do a great job an amazing job and truly we would say it doesn't sound like you're late we really want to highlight what a wonderful job you do because it is touching so many students we see the results here are directly tied to our mission um you're helping build character you're providing the hook for all these kids to come in but you're also supporting families in the program um and so really if you do a huge amount of work that is all behind the scenes so

048truly as a parent and you know been a huge asset to um to your students and families so thank you for that um I also appreciate you your patience and bringing this because I know this has been on your radar since day one that we've really got to be um you know compensating our Sports in a way that they deserve so I'm grateful that they're this is coming up I'm definitely full support of this it's been um for something that is a hook for so many students we have 1100 students um It's Not Just Sports it's a reason to have kids engaged here and that's that's what we're trying to continue to Foster so thank you all right okay thank you very much um just this is just Administration being polite and sharing things yeah

049well I think where is also a little different beyond what you said is the validity of it um as you'll he's uh topics I want to make sure that we're transparent but as we learn more and grow you'll they you'll probably Single part more frequently than you'll see a policy but I also want to make sure that there's nothing that's brought the both of your board doesn't understand and also with our community those don't understand and as you know procedure sayings we learn more we do better than we make adjustments as well and if this will only give me back so I think that's one of the bigger bigger nuances between uh policy and administrative policies according to lead to other outcomes and our results I would say the administrative rules are kind of the

050tools that the administration uses our outcomes and results so when there's budgetary implications I think it's appropriately before losing but we're not voting on that again because these are tools organizations which is where I have such I really appreciate that we see the link um to our results so directly in this I think that helps us understand how well this is tied in it's not just a this is an ask for for a budgetary line item it's this is how we're furthering our results um which is always fantastic to see it's really really appreciate that does that help kind of distinguish where one of the tools so this was information generation back we can make sure that we didn't have a bulk of the road and I just split this into the budget without any

051back and forth so the board will get uh final enrolled vote for the budget book if you had in football and building second final tax by the internet reports all right so moving on to including my mom and working July 1st we enter an employment services foreign [Music] it has more of a general uh overview of compliance more than anything else so what you will see on the screen is we're breaking it into three different sections a lot of us really about uh updating our policy and our handbook to align with laws and more goddesses that would be section 2.02 um foreign and our proposal is to instead narrow it down for one to two sentences for example under equal employment importantly just say we are needed employment opportunity and we refer to the law

052that allows us to stay confident in the logic changes so we do not have to update our handbook throughout the weekend same with number two and the coincident bullying is specifically um administrative rules that we just recently updated so instead of updating both of those which has been for everyone's experience the second section is clarifying ingredients for the students there are two areas that are out of date we want the area in our handbook is identifying days for someone to determine again and accept the responsible is very clear that if you agree during the school year it's a 10 to school day treatment screen so you start that out on day one and even on every school day that we are in session when you are outside of the school over here it is there

053there is no recognition of what a date is so I am opposing that the ad that is a business date you're so Obsession it doesn't have a weakness just like we would not go begins while we are in this group and the second pieces of is a part of the end of our handbook appendix City okay I don't see specifically talks about impressional hearing offices ihos and right now it currently lists three ihos that retired in this class that we would like this and so for us instead of continuing to update that list when someone retires down the road we have clarified it to say that the iho is one that is approved by the wbrc which is where those folks were listed incredible work it allows us to just maintain that our demo is

054up to date and in all honesty when we can get into agreeance we are working with the green e and potentially their return to identify when we both agree upon or that AHL so it really just provides guidance of that list of ihos that we will work on together for identify them it does not benefit the district it does not benefit the breathing any differently by reading removing those things and then finally tying it back a little bit into the presentation you just saw on the third assignments right now for example the football coach Santa's gone a football coach you'll receive pain as a football coach from September through August it is spread over all of their paychecks finally a majority of this season is August to November that works sometimes for a season that

055starts at the beginning of the weekend let's talk about a track a track coach still gets payment from September 1 through August 30 and there might be a period in time in which effect coach says that you want to be a coach in August but by February they say to us life experiences have changed and now we have an overcoming them being a track coach and they haven't even started their lives it becomes really messy for HR to say who have been overpaid 3 000 so for us instead we are looking that we pay our coaches to our engagement coaching the season rather than spreading it over all of their paychecks so we do not get into the point where we've got a spring rolls Thursday [Music] oddly enough the payment has changed every couple

056of years for the last few years so it was during the season then for a short period of time it was they had a choice that they wanted it during the season overall 12 checks or 12 months then two years ago they decided it was just getting easier for HR to start at the work all the checks but it has been inconsistent for a very long period of time if you are good moving forward with this lyrical just but it will be paid differently honestly they don't really recognize and notice the payments on each chat they're usually reaching out to us at the end of the year saying what am I going to get paid so it's really not going to thank you but that those are the Green Bay uh changes that were proposing

057at this point as a reminder very similar to administrative learning controls the handling chains and listen to sharing with you and we will again [Music] okay did you work for these changes with the Ada investor or not just because they were excited about uh sounds good thank you thank you [Music] 2 procedure for non-discrimination related to transgender non-binary and inner transitions absolutely um to proceed in Florida is really related to defending Hindu and non-bienated [Music] what I've done is based on um um the change that I made were to make sure our information is more inclusive so um our previous policies and obviously that time it was really doable you've heard that allowing the federal government foreign [Music] and then we add in a section of dealerships in the overnight trips um some of the

058amazing grammar changes or things about the district leading into a vasd so we made sure that we build one area school district boarding in the year it was interested thank you today I'm going to move one more section of the restroom of accessibility it was a physical education teacher's office there's a lot of places did not do that [Music] no given um given the work that we continue to do the words and support all students um we may use Taylor didn't realize that this under the boy population of students and monitors um I will say that as we know along with anyone as language changes things change this may be one so is it accurate to say looking through the the changes that have been made um but these are really just in keeping with

059like legal developments that have happened in our jurisdictions any questions um first thank you for explaining the change of gender expansive versus gender non-conformity I was like what is that deleted but that makes a lot more sense that I'm not saying there's something um so that's that was really interesting so thank you for sharing that um I had a good question on the restroom and locker room accessibility and point three words as many students have a neater desire for any of these privacy regardless of the underlying so just is this still within this policy of those who identify as transgender non-binary um just thinking about like if there's any student who feels uncomfortable changing when they're around a larger public order do they have access also in July accident on Smart private I would like

060to have a real life privacy for for things like that yes and so number five we asked me to evaluates all requests that we're going to provide from the same material accessories basis we have some new names of the students so the school doesn't it doesn't have that concerned so thank you personally because I think this is also a great example of how when we look at one marginalized communities and building more inclusive structures around them it it also infiltrates positively into other none at those communities outside of that right like as a girl who was changing in dance class in high school I tried to I'm a bit of disorders don't change it right and so that could be making a more comfortable environment for me I'll go ahead and identifies some sugar around

061that and there's some things [Music] and I think one thing that's really key with that is um okay one thing I struggle with a rule like this is it's hard the most important perspective on anything that's in this world is going to come from the children who are living that experience and it's not for me to look at it and say yes this is the right way to approach the school I know this is the wrong person too so I just want to make sure that you know as this rule kind of grows going forward that that feedback is centered and how this lives going forward but I mean in general I'm extremely supportive of all those changes things still I've learned that and also again let me have a better what we talked about

062earlier The Importance of Being able to put this in the broader board space even though this is important policy this isn't the board dictating because it's the scope of the administration and how Administration uses insights feedback you know all all of your tools to come to living room documents like this in the media that have this older dialogue here I appreciate that we're being open and transparent about these pieces that sort of live in administration but obviously comparable statements um while this is an administrative rule there was intentionality of both alignment to operational expectations 10 which is policy as well as the entire Equity framework is important policy and you can't have one window the other and so we can live up to the standard of the equity framework and as until we continue to

063work through administrative rules that support need to get this information right so I appreciate um but also I don't want it to become so separate that you know today we don't see the clear alignment between one or the other as a as a policy that our foreign administrative rules that are informed but um but by informed by our continued Community our students as Joel don't mentioned if that's how everybody was built by the belong to the voice of Lacrosse I say this on how how do we continue to support our I think that's where maybe my perspective is you know again that it's a tool school and furtherance of our this is how you achieve the results and the outcomes that we have put in place and without these levers that you have to work

064with we've inhibited your ability to achieve the results that we have set um but they are directly linked I think that they are anything that's living in the administrative rule is in furtherance of an outcome or a result of the board of set and the equity framework is the overarching I also it is just important to publicly state that while it is grounded in some of the federal guidelines and and quote-unquote rules included by online and so so still lender in court cases especially around access to the different spaces including bathrooms and Library rooms that's great but more importantly than I can believe yeah I think it's important for our district to take a stance that this problem will be safe that we believe in inclusivity and providing providing the safe spaces it is famous

065so there's no doubt there's a history of the policy or because of law is always because of like nothing else or two probably interestingly different things and I want to just probably say where where I believe that let's continue to try to get better have a question so I was going to say a lot of that differently but period but this is very important um so I just want to say it um I'd very much see this presentation of the administrative rule in mind with only 3.3 yeah um [Music] um and I also see it in voting attention as well uh and as far as uh CMOS you always want to remember I'm really interested in that they see the connections in between administrative Rule and operational expectations of the policy level but also how

066this rule then plays out through our social emotional well-being plan and the restorative practices that we continue to try to implement um historical key spots here where I see like I wonder about how our restorative place here instead of um in some of our language there I'm so I'll be real interested to see going forward how has this come into practice and the latest impactful for our students IT addresses some of the statistics that we saw in our climate survey for example that indicated that uh gender identity and sexual identity is one of the most uh bullied things that students identified experiencing at the middle of high school level in particular um and so I see this relationship between policy and the administrative Rule and the social uh well-being plan um and then the statistics

067reflected and you know at one level I want to see how that all works together um to really have an impact on our lives of our students so I think similar what everybody else is saying okay so the next thing we would be moving on to has been held over to our next meeting is there anything else from the superintendent's report that you want to wrap up with um so with that we can move just to board actions the only item that we have in the board action which is the general board updates are there any general board updates unless you're going to season two meeting right now so um just it was a wonderful coach that day um and just doing a celebrity income of Scholars and all the hard work of Staff it's

068us as well um to see you know I know this is a thing that to see all the different part of the boards and the souls all that stuff students like expressing themselves and what they've accomplishments that I don't know I kept looking little died on the silent night it was just so cool all the different things have been here so yeah and sometimes just a bit of shout out to everyone who works on the high school facility team um I'm bringing my five-year-olds basketball game here this week and I showed up and everybody earlier or I served many weeks and so I'm just at a basketball fan so to the point earlier in the presentation did it it's amazing to see how things are still so very live in the community throughout the summer

069night or summer schools are going on so just a huge thing move to everybody who's working during a time where we'll be traditional anything all educators are often enjoying time by the pool some of them are are doing that but a lot of them any other updates um with that we can move on to public comments um we have a couple public comments tonight um just as the general rules we keep public comment to three minutes and we um just ask that you were praying for many any students your staff specifically by name um if your name is called just kind of come on up or you can see from there whichever you're most comfortable with but the first person we have is right in it you can come right up here it's up to

070you yes whatever makes you most comfortable right I'm happy to hear from you [Music] I am doing it because we I'm very excited that we're sort of done hailing around the bathroom the policy updates for more gender Equity um however some of the feedback that I'm going to need to give is I don't know if any of you know that we've been meeting in a gender Equity Council so you asked our program here in this room um so uh with the parents and staff members admin um high school students we have a broad range to feedback on time I mean um discourage a more welcoming place for our students who will learn genders or food um we really we've been trying more part of it uh we were supposed to be remaining more specifically on

071harassment policy and how to make that more across the board or an introducible uh so when we saw their agenda for today we were a little bit thinking about because I think there's something to decide about what we've been working on um so it was sort of like what are we doing here why is leaving to make our Runway to talk for hours or minutes and it hasn't been the movement and I mean I'm sure that's a lot to do with about the board and UH responsibilities however it is a little bit into some nature that I mean we're almost a year at this point and have a major company in business um so when I asked it was a resource summarize what could be things that have been on over and over the students

072I'm sure many of you Mariah they are graduating or they adjustments which is not very division um they have so many wonderful ideas for how to make the schools better for people like about you um [Music] so there are a lot of very basic things that I think you can come from happening specifically but I would really love it if environment here in this building somebody from the world either um it seems like that's probably the only way things will actually start happening physically online from each level so I really appreciate that we have a smart training today that's huge okay sticky call as if I thought out finally we're doing things but I also yeah for the students who have worked really hard to make that happen through the Deliverance thanks right so next

073Wednesday in this room what time it's time for the evening I think three o'clock I think we have different summer hours we'll let you know it's it's not confirmed yet but yeah um we're still working on that it was maybe going to be tomorrow it's kind of an evolving situation we weren't even sure but we didn't get anything done sounds good thank you thank you for your time we appreciate it um the next person that we have is Nakia price okay [Music] um amazing [Music] on a bodies of the identity between Americans [Music] um Educators as a mom um [Music] the response to me is like and when you throw a systems [Music] um that's the worst people watching the emergency [Music] um sorry um [Music] when I started on developing here and I will

074respond um [Music] uh insulin in this situation when it is like three situation with Christina's approaching Mother's Day making the wheel they just wanted that and we really do our best to start with this team will always just want to be cuddling right instead of our familiar let them know even in assistance teaching her to find out that police is killing Nations but not for nothing foreign [Music] um I personally in the situation with my own lifespan so much [Music] that's my immunity with the child never even got a charge so I'm just looking at these different things but are we really get into the people because we're right [Music] and you know find a wrong people I have a respect and just being who they are you know so much that we're going to

075take away right away like that [Music] thank you middle school and Elementary shares the classified [Music] members of my community really [Music] online questions right [Music] um penises [Music] and still um [Music] fewer with your heart your way like one two persons he's always two years nobody in this building um thank you Mr we appreciate you speaking tonight um if we've had any other written comments um I was able to read those and thank you again for public comments tonight um the next event item is the superintendent consent agenda has everyone had a chance to review items under the consent agenda any questions hearing them consent agenda is approved and presented uh next we have the board consent agenda any questions on the board's consent agenda foreign or what Carlos are you muted thank you

076hearing no questions uh board consent agenda is approved as presented uh future agenda items if everyone take can take a look at the upcoming um meeting list and with that um if there's a motion to adjourn a post session under Wisconsin statute 19.85 sub 1 sub e to deliberate or negotiate the purchasing of public properties the investing of public funds or conducting other specified public business whenever competitive or bargaining reasons require a closed session regarding compensation and under Wisconsin 19.85 sub once event consider Financial medical social or personal histories or disciplinary data specific persons preliminary consideration of specific Personnel problems or the investigation of charges against specific persons except for paragraph B applies which if discussed in public would be likely to have a substantial adverse effect upon the reputation of any person referred to
