BMS student also any other special days to celebrate like teacher appreciation week and etc. So now for their meetings and PTO we meet every one to two. So every officer we meet every Oh yeah know. So uh every time every month we meet one to two days each month to talk about new dance ideas, fundraisers, weeks and other events. Officers we normally meet uh every week to plan our next meetings and further discuss more about events that we'll discuss with our reps later in other meetings. And we also give uh a student council report at the PTO meetings. The PTO helps us with chaperon dances and we help them with their fun fundraisers like delivering candy cane grams and cookie grams. So now for the dances. Uh after our fall dance, we had a hot
haunted hallways uh a cotton candy machine. Uh a movie room. uh the V uh VIP zone and uh and and we added a new uh game room. Uh I I hear some feedback we had from our survey. Uh the haunted hallways like they were like like good enough like I don't know >> scary. >> The haunted hallways basically didn't go very well. >> Yeah. It's just >> counterproof. >> Yeah. Uh, so the cotton cotton candy machine broke. So it'd be nice to have to like uh like fix it or like Yeah. So like a lot of people were like mad. So I was sad about that. And after that uh the movie room uh the popcorn machine was a really good addition. Uh and we made a lot of money from that. Uh but we
should but we should like try to get people to be quiet during it. >> And now the game room. It was a new addition but very chaotic. Thank you. >> Um, we had Penny Wars. Penny Wars is a grade level competition and fundraisers. We collected $1,336 to donate to the VFW. We helped uh the Veterans Day Committee by having a fundraiser at lunch where someone could donate money to help their grade level win. You can al also sabotage other grade levels by putting a nickel, a dime, or a quarter. So, your grade level would win. And you would put dollar bills to win a prize in a raffle. Uh, and you could put pennies in to add up for your grade level. Oh, >> okay. So, we're doing the family promise donation drive, and that's
why uh our manager, student council, Mr. receivers in here cuz he's actually on the like the parade thing where that is. So, he actually delivered all the stuff there. But the WMS student council has decided to partner up with Family Promise. What is Family Promise? Family Promise is a nonprofit organization that gives essentials and needs to for families who are struggling or and or at risk of homelessness. Each donation is one ticket that's at the end of each week where we will put um a raffle to win a $25 gift card. I know one time we did a like a snack basket or something like that one day and then now we're doing gift cards that just ended last week. >> Um we collect personal items such as body wash, shampoo, blankets, hand soap, paper
towel, toilet paper, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. So basically all your essential health items. Door decorating. Every year the school does a door decorating contest. Each flight classroom picks a winter theme. Student council officers walk around the school looking at the doors, judging and finding the best ones. The top three winning classes of the entire school are rewarded with a hot chocolate and cookie party. It is fun and competitive experience for everyone. So here we've done one spirit week from October 6 to which week we're currently in the middle of our holiday spirit week which is from today to the 19th Friday. For our spirit weeks we basically just pick a theme to dress for every day or favor. We do this to celebrate different things like homecoming and Christmas and helps make school a bit more
fun and enjoyable. So, were those all pennies that you collected? $1,300 worth? >> Well, they were like dollars. Uh, >> pennies is just a saying for we collect. >> Yeah, it's like just saying because penny worth and dollars can be added up for your grade level. >> It's a good amount. That's really great. Good job. >> Yeah, it all went to that stuff >> the VFW. >> Yep. >> Any other questions? Um, yeah, I did. I had a question about Oh. Um, for the drive that you guys are collecting like toiletries, is that ongoing or was that like a one time? >> So, we did it for So, we had it the first two we had it first two weeks of nove of December and we did it for each grade level. You could do
something. We had two people sitting at the table in front of the lunches. We'd have two people do it. Oh, no. Yeah. So we'd have each grade would have a chance to do at lunch and then we had a morning for everybody. So we'd all uh I think every single person in student council was supposed to sign up for two days and then so yeah I me and him made the slide uh the slide for everyone that did it and basically we put people in shifts for the morning and during lunch so each grade period and yeah it went on for about two weeks. We just stopped it last week. That's awesome. >> I just had a comment. I really appreciate you adding about the feedback and like being real honest about it because that's
the best way we can grow, but even adults hate feedback sometimes. >> So, I I just really appreciate that. And to know that you guys are constantly trying to make things better was really awesome. >> Yeah, I was going to add on that. I really appreciate that you just kind of told it like it is, you know, and you're not afraid of telling the truth about when things are going well or not going well. And it's um beneficial to really look at what's working well for your group and what's not working so well. Um there's a phrase that we use, it's continuous improvement, which is you try to get a little bit better every single time and it goes along with your growth mindset. So really proud of you coming here. >> Uh yeah. Uh
just something I can add something that I should add. Uh of like it was it was pretty good overall, but like like I like maybe just like make it like a bit funner. >> We had our ups and downs. We um actually we didn't have a lot of people do this one because one it was Halloween so half the people were like trick-or-treating and there's also a football game across the street. But we were able to pull in less than 200 people. I think that's that's less than average. But we were actually we were able to make I think just under $200 in profit. So we still did okay. We still didn't have like a loss. But um I think next dance we could definitely improve cuz we're going to be able to have more
people and we've learned on what we need to do. We've had the feedback form so we know what we can change and make better. So I think next dance it'll keep improving. >> Oh I think our biggest or like our best room for the dance was probably the VIP room cuz that day we had the World Series game going on inside there so a lot of people were watching it and playing basketball. You got Mr. D working on that cotton candy machine? >> No, I was for the first ship and then someone else took it and it broke it. >> I think he's really good with his hands. I might be able to fix it for you. >> The cotton candy machine's not It's pretty haunted. It's >> um So last year last last year
>> I don't even know this stuff. So last year um Colin and set the fire set the cotton candy machine on fire >> uh like during the actual thing >> coming out now. >> So >> it was Mr. He didn't know anything about this either. >> We put the drink >> they put the sugar in wrong. They put it in the part didn't spin. and they put in the heating part so it set on fire. So we had to, you know, like figure out how to do that. >> Well, >> and then this year, >> a great learning experience. >> Sounds like a lot of learning. So really good job, guys. Thank you. >> Yeah. So I don't know if we're going to add that back, >> but uh we normally do that for like
the VIP rooms. We normally have something special like uh sixth grade year. I know that we had a snow cone machine. >> Um we did hot chocolate one year. We did dirt cakes. I know uh sometimes in the movie when we did the popcorn machine, me and him ran the popcorn machine a lot, but it was actually way better than I thought it was going to be. We made a lot. the raiseight app or raiseight all one word website to find Hills Corners Elementary. You buy those through there. You get buy a $50 gift card, you actually get a $50 gift card, but there's like a commission or something that the PTO gets. So, those are the two big things going on right now. All right, we'll move on to music boosters. >> Sure. I
was just looking up the details. We had the poinsettia sale. Um, and it was a really huge success. This is the first year that they've done it and um they actually ended up selling 232 poinsettias and 57 students participated. So, I don't have the totals yet of how much they made from it, but um Shady Lane's uh greenhouse was amazing to work with. And um there isn't a meeting tomorrow. Um they're taking off for this month because they had a lot going on with the concert and the um poinsettia sale. So look for the next one in January. >> All right. Greenfield Park and Rock. >> Tonight through Thursday is Cruising Santa. And the young gentleman talked about Mr. Sever and he's on one of the floats. Uh if you are a Greenfield resident, you
can track it on their Greensfield website and uh see when it's coming by your house. That's it. >> Cool. >> Sounds good. Uh Hills Corners Park and Wreck. >> Nothing. Nothing. >> All right, we'll move on to S SWSA. >> Yeah. Um Brady and I attended the virtual meeting and Brady provided an update in his weekly report. So, thanks for doing that and all the details are in there. >> Sounds good. All right, we'll move on to 5C superintendent report. Okay, it's been a while since uh we we last uh met together, so I'm going to kind of run through this quickly. Uh first thing on the referendum, the the Hills Corners Planning Commission meeting uh is tonight. Uh that's why we're trying to speed this along so I can get over to that as
well. Um but a few few other things. Uh AC had their student versus staff basketball game right before the Thanksgiving break. Uh I'm not sure who won that one. Um so >> think students by a lap >> pro probably. Yeah, that's okay. Um the right >> the middle school they had a really neat um they had the Milwaukee Public Museum come in uh to I think it was seventh grade classes and teach them about mummification. Uh so that was a neat thing. Of course, as Alicia said, uh we've been real busy with kind of holiday concerts. Uh the the middle school had an orchestra had had their concert and then also the choir and orchestra at the high school had their concerts recently. Um, and then the the holiday the school district holiday band uh
attended and performed at the Hills Corners uh Christmas tree lighting. So, uh lots of great you know musical opportunities. We had the blood drive at uh for the for the Red Cross and then also a a group of seventh graders uh seems to be a theme tonight with the middle school. Um they they took a trip to the the guest house and the students made sandwiches and then they learned a little bit more about the organization and how it helps our community. Uh I just want to give you an update. The robotic floor scrubber is here. I I think I shared a video with you all. Um we're it's it's coming in a lot of really handy right now with all the stuff that's getting salt and everything that's getting um tracked in. Uh they're
working on letting the students uh vote on the name of the robot. Uh the three choices are >> Sir Scrub Buddy, Washawa, and R2 Clean Tube. So those will be voted on by the high school students and uh we'll keep you posted. It's actually pretty cool to see uh within our schools. >> Who created names? >> What's that? >> Who created the name? Uh, I think the the custodial staff had a student. >> Oh, the students. Oh, the students. Uh, >> are you going to put like a sign or like a name? >> Yeah. And they're talking about putting a face on it and all all kinds of stuff. Yeah. It's >> becoming a part of the the school culture. Yeah. Um, the middle school had their December lunch with the veteran recently. If you
remember, they're doing that every single month. Uh, which is is pretty cool. And then the fall witness window has been mailed out. So, if you have not seen it yet in your mailbox, you should very soon. Um, I just want to give a heads up and this will be, you know, for Quinn and his next Greenfield meeting. We had the Battle of the Birds last week where, you know, we hosted Greenfield in both girls and boys basketball. We went 5-0. Uh, so all our teams won that night. So, uh, we're pretty excited about that. Uh, also, uh, over the course of the last little bit, the employee engagement survey went out and it was completed. This year we had 88% of staff complete the survey which is didn't quite beat the 92 from last year
percent but we 88 we're pretty happy with. I will say um the high school won. Uh they were the first ones to 85% and they had 94% of their staff total take it. Uh they did beat the reigning champions the middle school. Uh so I'm not sorry guys but Maybe if you had the cotton candy machine, you would have gotten more votes. >> Do just want to uh you know, let you guys all know there's a small gift uh to you know, of appreciation uh for you all. Um you know, a couple couple months ago was board um member appreciation and then we have you know, obviously the holiday season. So, we just wanted to provide you guys with something to let you know. Uh we do appreciate your work, your leadership, and I I
know it's uh not always easy, but we appreciate the work that you do. So uh hope that everybody here and anybody that's listening has a wonderful holiday break, uh a happy holidays, and um we'll see you back in 2026. So that's all I've got for tonight. >> All right, we'll move on to six discussion. WASP resolutions, um they are out. Brady had sent them to you if you have any strong feelings one way or another on some of those. I know he had kind of described a few of those that were contradictory I guess is the best way to say it. Um but um if you have something for that let me know and we can uh go over what we want to advocate for at that time. You got some time. We got about
a month. So if there's anything for that just let me know. Do you have any comments or thoughts that we should consider or um >> about any in particular? >> No, it the thing is it it for those who aren't familiar with them, it is something where we all get all the delegates get together and you push for things that you'd like our legislators to advocate for. So even if it's something that isn't currently being talked about, it's something that can be a reminder to them saying, "Hey, this is something we really care about. We want you to push for this or that." Some of the things are very specific to certain demographics of school districts where it really has no impact or bearing on us. And there are other things that are larger like
the things that Brady had mentioned in his email to everyone that um is more of a there should have really been one resolution and not two separate ones on that. So it'll be interesting to see how that plays out. That's all I have for that. So um we will move on to seven discussion with future action 7A 2627 school year calendar with Dana. Hello. I should have gone first because then you would have all the kids and the musical stuff afterwards. The fun part. Um just a brief presentation about our draft of the 2627 calendar. Um very similar to last year. Um we have our 192 educator contract days. Um our calendar meets our DPI instructional hour requirements for all grade levels. Um this next year we or this year we realized that the middle
school and the high school bell schedules are one minute off of each other. Um and with the way that the calendar kind of fell for next year um we are squished for instructional time. And so to make those even and make sure that we have the required number of instructional hours, we will be adding one minute to the middle school bell schedule for next year. Um so that means they're going to add it to the first hour so they have a little more time for announcements and the middle school will be dismissed one minute later. Um more information about that is going to be clearly shared um as we go throughout the year. But that's something we had to take into consideration for the calendar. We have two days built in for inclement weather as
we've done the last several years. So we didn't need to change anything with that. Um and we did some looking at other districts calendars and it's in line with what other calendars have in terms of their professional learning time. Winter break, spring break, and then the last day of school. Um everything is within about a week of each other in the area. The one consideration that we had to add in this year is our construction timelines. Um so the very first thing that Brady and I did is we met with Todd Iverson um and CG Schmidt so we could talk about some of those construction timelines. While these timelines don't affect the 2627 calendar, um the first day of school in 2728 is going to be pushed back by one week because of the construction
that's going on in Edertton. So that first day of school in 2027 um will be a little bit later than what we're accustomed to and you'll see that when I'm up here next year. Um but for this year, nothing was affected with the calendar for construction. Um they're doing construction over spring break time um and trying to fit it around our school schedule. Um so we looked at some surrounding district calendars. We looked at our current calendar. Um we thought what's working, what's not working. We created a draft and we shared it out with multiple educator leadership groups. Um our educator leadership committee, our support staff leadership committee and our staff. Um we received some feedback from staff and then use that to develop the final version. There were quite a few um modifications made
based on staff feedback and recommendations. Um and then we're going to make some final decisions around some conference dates and a couple other things um prior to board taking action in January. So, if we make some little tweaks, then I will share those with you before you take action in January. Um, a couple of new and exciting things that we're adding for next year. Um, we're maintaining our four days of August launch like we had this year, but we're also going to add one floating professional learning day. Um, that is going to allow staff to work on some tasks. Um, because we know that our staff in different buildings have different needs. Elementary teachers might need to set up their classroom or high school teachers might need to work on their Canvas page. Um, so
we're going to create some parameters around that. Um, but our four days of August launch will remain in the same week like they did this past year. We also placed um our professional learning days really intentionally before and after semester changes to allow for some records time for teachers to work on grading and entering grades um and also planning for next quarter and next semester. We also put some PL days after our fall, winter, and spring universal screening times so that when we have that student data in, um, teachers are able to really sit down and dig into that data without having to give up their planning time to do so. Um, and then I just met with Cindy and Chris earlier today along with Adam. And in previous years, we've had early release days
at the middle school and the high school on the same days. And that was a big point of feedback, particularly from our middle school staff, um, is that they need those days planned a little more strategically to give them more effective time to work. And so we will be doing different early release days for middle and high school next year um, based on their building specific needs. So, the high school early release days will still be focused around testing while the middle school days will be based on those building needs um with the semester changes. Um so, all that said, here is the initial draft of the calendar for next year. Um like I mentioned, it's in line with a lot of similar calendars in surrounding districts. Um the first day of school would be
Tuesday, September 1st. The last day of school would be Wednesday, June 9th. Any questions at this time? >> Thanks for working on it, Dana. So, >> and everybody else who worked on it, too. So, yeah, >> it is it's a hard realization to know that you're never going to make everyone happy. Um, but we did our best. >> I guess one question. Is there number of days off for kids between like this? Because it really one thing that's standing out is um holiday break next calendar. Like this calendar we have two full right two full weeks. >> So those two days next calendar are they off somewhere else? Are they like redistributed? >> Yes. So we did add a day off on October 30th. >> Okay. I see that. >> Um the difficulty was if
we had tried to keep it the same just because of how the dates shifted. We would have had one day of school and we figured we would have on December 21st and there would have been nobody here basically. No. Um, so we figured with two days of school, it at least will hopefully gives us some extra instructional time. >> And I bet people will love the 30th off. Didn't that used to be a thing, right? The last weekend of October. >> Yeah, we we got feedback from staff that u that time of year. I mean, it Yeah, it's >> it's a well needed maybe day off for our staff to just take a deep breath. Um, we also had a lot of discussion around Martin Luther King Day. Uh and we we are going to
take that day give that day to everyone off I believe >> as a professional learning day. Yeah. >> Uh as we've done in the past uh just >> it doesn't fall quite in line with what Dana had talked about. So if you look at January it's a >> there's a couple days like professional learning days like backtoback but it was because we wanted to maintain that Martin Luther King Day >> holiday. She also mentioned the um we we don't have to put in for a early start time uh before September 1st because state statute says schools need to start by September 1st. >> Um so this year we'll start on September 1st. Next year we're going to use the Labor Day holiday as as the starting. So th this year we're starting before Labor Day.
So there'll be a week before Labor Day essentially. many years we we start right right after Labor Day and that's what we'll do next year where Labor Day is a tad bit later. It's like the sixth or seventh. So that'll give CG Schmidt and all of our construction time. So we didn't have to apply for any waiverss from the state for early start or anything like that. >> All right, there are no other questions. Thank you very much. >> Thank you. And if you have questions between now and next time, feel free to email us and we're happy to >> My kids were really hoping there were going to be a couple snow days recently. >> Yeah. You know, uh we were at the basketball game uh last Tuesday. Was that Tuesday? And all the
kids were like bugging me like, "Hey, we're going to have a snow day tomorrow, guys. I'm not even getting up early." >> All right, we'll move on to eight announcements. Does anybody have anything for announcements? Seeing none, we'll move on to nine meeting debrief. Um, just want to wish everyone happy holidays. Uh, staff, students, families, everybody in the district. Uh, it was a safe holiday two weeks that you have off and enjoy that time. >> I just saw um an email that did we get all the early entries for the convention? >> Today's the last day. >> Yep. Yep. Jennifer, we we've got it all. Take care. >> Yep. Thank you. And I I I I sent I think I sent most people a a calendar invite. I I RSVPd us all to attend the
CG Schmidt launching like we did last year. So anybody who's there on Thursday, it's on Thursday this year, but by all means, that'll be great. I'll keep an eye out for other ones, too. >> Thanks. >> Sounds good. There's nothing else for meeting debrief. Do I have a motion to adjourn the meeting? >> Some moved. >> I'll second. >> All in favor? I >> oppose.
