two of her classes and then um during the rest of the day she would transition into that role as business manager. Um she currently has a master's in educational leadership. She has a bachelor's in math and then would be enrolling into a business administrator program. The second hire within consent agenda is Tyler Hstrom. Tyler is currently a pair professional within our department and help support our students um with multiple different math needs. And his recommendation would be to teach Jackie's classes for the remainder of the school year, the four classes that she would no longer be teaching um to move into that as a teacher. Tyler is also currently in a program to get his teaching certification. >> Okay. Is there a motion to presented to them as further discussion. All those in >> favor.

Now there motion to approve the consent agenda. I thought you what you said was to approve the consent agenda items. >> I make a motion agenda. >> Are you going to approve the agenda along with the treasur and everything else? You want to approve one time to approve the remainder of >> the remainder of the Yes. Second. I'll second discussion. All those in favor? >> Any oppos? Announcements. >> Okay, we would like to recognize Herm Christensen. Herm has been in our district for 31 years and four months. Um Herm has dedicated his career to building strong programs, supporting coaches and students, and fostering a sense of pride that runs through our school community. This is evidenced by the record-breaking response on social media to his retirement day announcement. Whether it was coordinating countless events or

mentoring athletes or quietly solving problems behind the scenes, Herm has always led with pride and heart. His work has impacted thousands of students and families and his influence will be felt here for years to come. Herm, your commitment, loyalty, and love for Wilma have left an incredible legacy. On behalf of the entire district, we thank you for 31 years and four months of service, leadership, and panther pride. Please join me in congratulating her. >> Oh, you know, I'm so good at those. >> Thank you. >> We know you're really not going to stay away very long. You just got out of practice. >> You know, most of those comments were wondering, he's still there. >> Got a lot of that. >> Yes, it was that was really cool. So, >> thank you to all. >>

I'd like to say thank you just for me at least for all the highs and lows that you put through and for a lot of them. I wish you the best in retirement. Okay, reports now. >> I'm Sydney. This is Nora. Okay. So, kind of what we've got going on right now with the student body. Um, one of our we have quite a few new clubs that are um clubs and soon to be sports, I guess. So, we have powerlifting, which is currently being considered a club. Um, ski club, pickle ball, bat off the books. And I wanted to touch a little bit on a club that we have called Um it started as LEAP which stands for leaders in education and athletics program. Um and then we further moved to change the name because

it is recognized by the WIA. So it's student athlete leadership team and I'm a member of the club and one of our goals is to just um bring more school spirit throughout the school. Um just make the student body more excited to be here. Make it um our sporting events um have more attendance at them, have more school spirit. So, if we have a student section, making sure the student section is having fun, cheering on our team, and then also um increase uh sportsmanship towards other teams and other coaches and officials. We celebrated officials week for fall official for fall sports during the football season. And so, that's um That's what Salt is all about. I'm really excited to see how we move forward with that. Um, and then we also are back to doing

Priceless Pancakes as student government where we um on the first Friday of every month. We literally through from our budget make pancakes for the school in the morning. Anyone who wants them can come get them before school. We are now running it in the commons and we We always have a amazing turnout. I feel like we always we started doing um we have cereal now too just as an alternate option. It's successful and it's fun and we enjoy serving them. I feel like it's fun to make the pancakes and stuff. And then upcoming for us, we will be doing um we will have our holiday spirit week coming up in December. We always do that the week before winter break. Just fun spirit days. Once again, like I feel like student government's whole purpose is

kind of to make the student body have more fun, similar to what I was talking about with our salt group. So just fun spirit days hoping to make kids, you know, want to be at school before break because you know, everyone just works for their days off. So that's what I've got. And then um we also just had a a food drive that was pretty successful. Our homes have battled against each other to see who could make the home. Um our winter sports are all starting up. So like hockey, wrestling, all that. And then um our HOSA their competition season's also coming up. They have regionals. And um also HOSA recently passed out like paper to all the home rooms and basically student body just made Thanksgiving cards and then they brought them to the

Golden Nursing Home. Um, okay. So, I'd like to give an overview of our school report forms. These, um, went to the public on November 11th. So, I'm going to talk through a few pieces of it just so we you guys kind of have an understanding of what our school report card shows us. So, you can see on the right the trends of our school report card. The trends are a little tricky because they do change up some measures every single year. So, it's not is an apples to apples comparison, but I still think it's good to kind of take a look back and see um where we were historically uh just for some trends. So, um you can see our overall score was a 58.5 which meets few expectations. The median expectations begins at 60.

Um we did increase from last year to this year by four points which is actually a pretty tremendous increase in our school report card. Um, but you know, our goal is we we want to meet expectations. That's ultimately our goal. So, I'll kind of talk through some different ways that I think we can get there and some work that we've been doing uh to help move this forward. The priority go back. Sorry. The priority area weights. This is how our each area of the report card that I'm going to go through are weighted for our district. This looks different for every district and a lot of it depends on your economically disadvantaged student population. So, I'll go through each one of those, but you can kind of see our the largest weight of our school

report card is our academic achievement. Okay, so the four different areas that make up our report card, remember the the percentage or the weight of each of those areas is based on our percentage of economically disadvantaged, which you can see in the upper right there. We are 24.9% of our student population is economically disadvantaged. Um, so if you look over at our achievement, which is up on the top left in the Navy, um, for English language arts, 64.3 was our overall score. And then you can see kind of that light blue line underneath as a 62.1. That is the state average. So we're slightly above state average when it comes to our ELA academic achievement. Um, a lot of this is based on well is our preACT uh testing for freshman and sophomores and then

ACT testing as juniors. And then in mathematics, 61.5 was our overall score um for last school year. And then the states is um 60. And then you look over to growth. So growth is definitely, no pun intended, but it's definitely an area that we really need to focus on and help grow. Um as you can see, the state average in both ELA and mathematics growth is 66. That's a constant average. State average is always falling at 66 for growth. Um but we are below state average in our growth. Um so sustaining our academic abilities um throughout their their time here at Wilmont is below average. So 48.9 for ELA and then 41.3 for math. Our target group outcomes focuses on our lowest 25%. So they take test scores and the 25% student percent of our

students that score the lowest score the lowest on their test scores are honed in on that target group. And so I'll talk a little bit more about that. We'll get into more detail about the target group. Um and then you can see our on track to graduation compared to the state. So that takes a look at our gradu graduation rate and chronic absenteeism. Our graduation rate is above the state at 96.3%. But our chronic absenteeism is still low in the state. So we are working on um attendance and those kind of things. And that is over a three-year trend. So it's not just last year's attendance. That's been over the past few years. So that does capture a little bit of when we are coming out of COVID. Um so just kind of keep that

in mind as we move forward. So for our achievement um this is two years worth of data and our school is above 48.5% of high schools in the state. So um we are about average slightly slightly below average across the state in our achievement. If we break that down the great thing is is that we we have seen growth from 23 24 school year to 2425 school year. So that that chart I made on the bottom takes a look at the percentage of the area in the bright blue and the purple combined. So those two areas combined are advanced and meeting expectations. And you can see that our percentage of students that have met or have been advanced in ELA and in math have increased since 2324. So those are the two kind of areas

that we combine together to to take a look at how we're doing with our achievement. So our growth is based on three years. The most recent year is weighted a little um heavier than the past two, but it looks at our students performance in English language arts and in math. And um you can see that for our growth, we score above 8.5% of high schools in the state. This is definitely an area we're going to continue to monitor and watch and and focus in on. Um but again, this is a three-year um three-year section of data moving forward. So if you look further at our growth, this breaks it down by different um subcategories of students. So a group has a score posted if there's 20 or higher representing that group. So for all students,

you see all students at the top. In English language arts, the growth was a 2.1, average is three. So anything closer to that midline that you can see kind of dividing those up, that's where we want to see our growth. And so in English language arts, you can see we're we're getting closer to that line in a lot of our subgroups. in mathematics, we're not quite as close to that line with all of our subgroups. So again, this is just kind of showing us an area that we really need to look at and focus on to shift our all of those boxes closer to that that midline and to that average of three. So our target group, our target group is measured in all of the things, achievement, growth, their absenteeism, and their graduation rate

as well. Um, and again, this is students scoring at the bottom 25% on their test scores. And what we do here is we we kind of look to identify our gaps. So, of our students that are scoring the lowest on their test scores, what areas do we need to focus in on? And I can tell you, we kind of looked a lot further into this data today and a lot of our students within that bottom 25% really struggle with attendance. I mean, attendance rates are very, very low. So, we are seeing that correlation there. Um and we all have we all know that being at school is the best place to start and so we do need to work within that subgroup on um improving attendance there as well. So our priority or our target

group outcomes are above 4.4% of high schools within the state. So these are the different components for our target group. Um, when you look at these, the green bar is the target group and where they're performing and then the gray bar underneath there is our non-target group. So, the rest of our student population. So, if we look at achievement in ELA, 29.7 would be our target group. And again, remember these are the the students that scored the lowest 25% of our entire student population. So, we would expect that they would be lower than the rest of our student population. Um, and then in mathematics, you can see the difference between our target group and our non-target group. I just talked about their chronic absenteeism, the 59.3 for our target group. Their attendance is significantly impacted

within our target group. Um, their growth actually is is doing pretty well. And a lot of that is because what we do is we take a look at the target group and we try to figure out how to support them more academically. We have seen that their test scores are coming back the lowest. And so how are we going to hone in and help support that group to make better gains? Um so you can see that they're very close in growth to and actually surpass the growth of the rest of our students um in math. And then finally, graduation rate. Again, most of our students are graduating. So their graduation rate is a 94.6. And then finally, we are above 27.8% 8% of high schools with our on track to graduation which takes into account

our graduation rate and then chronic absenteeism. Chronic absenteeism is any student that misses 10% of school day or more. So you can kind of see those two scores again. So overall um again I went back and looked at the trends but what I ended up doing is really just comparing the 2425 report card that was just released to the prior report card. And you can see that within all of the areas we did improve within all of those um the pieces of the pie. Um we have improved across all of those areas. There's still work to do. So um our next steps, we just met um with the data specialist today to dig into not only our school report card, but what our preacct and our ACT scores are telling us. um to look at

who are the students in our target group, what can we do about our attendance rate. So, all of these things are conversations that we're already having and we're going to continue to have moving forward. Um the school report card helps us be able to kind of dig into those areas specifically as we move forward in the work. >> Any questions? >> Yes, >> this is this is the area where I usually focus my attention. I don't mind too much about the money, the budgeting, all that stuff. It's usually led by by a lot of experts. But this area to me is very important to make sure that this continue in the path of improving but on a path that is a little bit more streamlined with a much inclined degree of of increase. It looks

like we are making some some progress. I'm not exactly sure comparing ourselves to the state average is something that we want to do. I think we should have a much higher bar and I think we should try a little harder on identifying the I'm not talking about you know you specifically but in general you know from us from the from your team from everybody and identifying the root cause and the root problems or some of the areas that we already know are problem what are we doing about one big percentage of the absentees coming from again. Please feel free to understand that our support is undevoted to you to make the changes that you need to make to ensure that we get a better achievement achievement. reading all the take us to the federal and

we appreciate you know this is the slide that I always want to see where we want to show that however it's very very small very minimum just the bottom of the barrel to make sure that some green arrow But that that has been always the challenge that I p to the leadership of the school. How can we make our school higher achievement school compared to Central to Badger to other schools in the area to the state average? How are we compared to them? Because me as a parent of three kids that went to here, I can tell you that one thing that was very important to me is are they going to learn math? comparatively with some other countries that are at the top not compared to the state. How are we doing some comparison

some other countries that have high standards in math? They learn how to teach the math but how are we doing and you have but that's my challenge we need to way better including the >> data what are we actually doing this So we are increasing but so what are we do we have a very straight and narrow path that we know we're following to get to increase like absenteeism I mean it was how many months ago I felt like that was a huge conversation before I was on this board about everything that we're doing but we're pushing that back to a huge factor on this >> so did what is what we are doing is it actually or are we spending a ton of resources not going like spinning our wheels? >> So, I think

part of this what you'll see and what we learned today with um so we had a data specialist come in from CIS6 to guide us through he put together all these charts and tables and he was able to show us a bunch of different things and one of the things I think we're going to see is that this year's chronic absenteeism which isn't on this report card because it's the past three has significantly improved. So the efforts that are being into that will be showing. It's just like next year and in the future years. But yes, it's significantly decreased from what's been reported here. The amount of students missing as much school. So all of the efforts are happening. They're working. It's just tricky because the way that this is measured isn't always going to

show us like that immediate. But I still think it's important to report on this because this is what people look at like people are going to look at different school report cards. And so it's so important to have an understanding of what's and what it means for us. But yes, we are all of those efforts into attendance are they are working and we're going to continue to do them because we are seeing improvements in that area. last year. They knew that this was an area of struggle and so they started right away putting together plans to address the >> focus on like what are we doing now because we know it's not over you know what I mean and the trending over so compared to where we are so we focus our efforts to make

a not just so a lot of what we're doing is kind of going back to some of those teams, our collaborative teams in math, English, science, social, all of the different areas to start working more on that because what this is telling us is our students, they're achieving, they're achieving. We have to sustain that growth now over time. And that's really what we need to focus on is from freshman year to junior year, like what is that looking like? And what is what is the data those areas that we do really need to hone in on so that they're sustaining the growth that our growth is improving within our school report. So those are some of the steps that we start taking. Like I said, we just did this was just released and so we

just did a huge dive into all of our information including our testing for ACT and ACT of all the students that last year >> and what are we regularly checking ourselves to make sure it's not important now but it's as important downst our testing data is showing us our free ACT and our ACT and then we are meeting as an admin team to talk about okay we just we did all of this information seeking and getting all the information Where are we taking that steps? >> So, John Norwick has been doing a lot of that work and trying to get our feeder schools together to do those pieces. >> So, I mean, I know we used to have lady so that our math programs were on par. So they're not coming in and getting German

when they should be Spanish, you know, is in bad. That's what I'm getting. you know, not in this book and we're in this book, >> you know, and what we used to do that at one point very still or is that something that you have to rebuild? >> No, I think I think with our schools, we're also on board. Everyone's talking with one another. It's not the same materials. It's not the same like breaking resources, but we're all having conversations. >> Are there scores relative to ours? >> I mean, I see >> I I I see I see was, you know, they're big sign up there. >> Yeah. Celebrating that they're really high and it's like, hey, where them kids go? You go central, you come here. >> And we we also had turn like

this. Ours were an eight for a long time and now we can pull their head up. So this this can change. We went up nine points within a short time frame. So that jumping can happen, but you got to be what you're talking about consistent and hammering. It's consistency and follow through. So There is hope because we were saying we were there. >> Oh, and I I know there Thank you. And and I know there's hope. It's just I just want to make sure the collaboration is still there because I don't know >> and I think it's pretty important what you're saying. They should be here and they should be supporting you >> and helping you answer some of these questions. We understand there's a lot of things that are being done, but I've been

also an advocate of what you were saying. There has to be a connection between the high school and the middle school. There has to be somewhere. There has to be a bridge where we provide the feedback. You guys are providing these students that are really really excellent but they need improvement >> and then building up that job. I think that is happening but we want to hear from >> Yeah. And again you know developing the right this is not really let's keep this because this is the the ruler that is being used to measure the school but also let's develop and I think we have remember the dual credit. Yeah. No, great work. Excellent. But but we have to sustain there and sustain it and keep the other way. >> Okay. Public comments. All right.

Items for discussion and possible action field trips. Um have some overnight field trips uh to get approval. Um we have three different ones. Two of them are sports related and one is with our um our student leadership group. So the first one is basketball coming up over break here. Um it's going to be both Wednesday. Our girls basketball team going up to the Dallas some games up there. Um playing one game on the 29th and one on the 30th. So they'll be doing all that stuff together as a kind of big program. Um the other one is also baseball team going up in April and playing some games up in the Dallas facilities. And then Third one is our our leadership team. They're going to a leadership summit up in Stevens Point. Um two weeks

um in Central this is something that put on through the WIA. Um and so it's going to be I know from our conference Union Grove and Waterford will all be there. So these people four well we might take eight but at least four of our athlete or student leaders from that group. We're going to go up there and collaborate with all the other schools all the other student leaders can hopefully back into our students as we ask for these trips. All those in favor 2027 school start. >> Okay. So, this kind of goes into our next agenda item as well. Um, but I am proposing that we shift our start time next year to 7:25 which would be 10 minutes earlier than what we're doing this year. Um, the reason there's multiple reasons for this,

but one of the reasons is it gives us a lot fibility within our school calendar. So things like um two full weeks at winter break, um built-in professional development time for our staff. Um our dismissal, our last day of school would be the first week of June. Um in case we were to ever need a buffer for construction, you know, things. um we would have days built in where we wouldn't have to worry about scrambling to try to figure out how we're going to make some of these things up. And so it would be the addition of 10 minutes a day. Um I did talk with Dman and they said they would be able to make that work for our bus routes if we decided to approve that. Um and this would start next school

year, but um I mean I I would love to continue that start time for much of the future just because of all the flexibility it gives us. I move to increase the school day by 10 minutes at least 26 27 discussion favor 26 27 school Um, so you should be able to see the PDF in there. I think that's um so really the there's nothing major changing within the school calendar. Again, the only thing that would be different would be well no there's two full weeks we want to break this year too. Um there would not be the full week of Thanksgiving. We would um come the 23rd and the 24th of Thanksgiving week. So that Monday and Tuesday, um let's see, we would um finish uh Thursday, June 3rd would be the official last

day of school. Um I'm proposing to keep the Friday graduation, that Friday evening graduation. I think for families, that's a really nice option to then have the rest of the weekend for hosting parties, doing dinners, whatever they need to do um for that weekend. And let's see, there are more staff PD days built in. So you those yellow squares, those would all be staff professional development days so that we could come together and do some learning together. >> Um, in order to hold on, let me get out the first week of June. >> Yeah. Or we would have to flex somewhere else in our calendar. Oh, also I know I know um when I was getting feedback, so I got feedback from our leadership team of teachers as well and we talked about so you'll

see October 30th is a day that we would have fully off. Um and so if we were to take that full week of Thanksgiving, then October 30th would be a day that we would need to report like we did this year. So we had our teacher conferences and then the next day was a full day of school. So for next year we would have teacher conferences Thursday evening and then the next day would be a day off for everybody kind of going back to there used to be like a fall break. Some school districts still do that. Um a fall break at the end of October. So building in that one day of kind of like a fall break. So the staff on Friday the Yes. Is that a half day for them or do

they start later in the day to promote our staff coming to graduation or how do >> on Friday the 4th? So Friday that June 4th one >> that is usually a day where everybody's finishing up grades and getting all their grades into the system, closing off the school year, all of those things. But yes, that could be something that we could build in Yeah, I want to push hard on our graduation. Last year being my first year, I felt like it was very lackant. Well, Sunday was like I think that should be a very big priority for our staff moving. First of all, people that want to start vacations, they got the weekend to do that. coming back in here on the weekend. >> Well, that's why I think what can we do to better

support our professional development day or is that something that we can work into their hours to attend? I mean, we push so hard for all these kids to get through this school and I'm just saying I was very disappointed at years by >> I know it's not something that they have to but it's something that we put in as a showing support >> well we have evening events too where um like our freshman orientation night or you know those kind of things So that could be built into one of those those evening pieces too where um if they're signing up to work even it could be something like that too. So yeah there's definitely ways to put more focus on that. >> Okay. So you want to approve the school calendar presented draft and move

to December just in case anyone I'm fine with everything but I think we need to I want to be on graduation. switch our time. However we got to do it, I don't care. >> Um, >> but >> I think that changing >> I mean we have to revamp somehow on the 4th if the hours are they start later in the day so that it incorporates graduation or whatever type graduation. I just I think that's important. graduation at six o' that's not necessarily embedded into the calendar but that's something that work >> that's what I'm trying to understand it's more something that >> well if they need to do a PD if they need to switch a PD day so June 4th is showing a professional staff PD is that do we need to make something

known that it's you know is it a four hour stretch is it a full day is your day starting at 2 and going till 8 I don't know right and that doesn't need to be laid out for our calendar but that day is still important so it's important to keep it on that day because after the last day of school we have to get grades entered and so there's still a lot of things that we have to do after our students leave the building and so that's part of why that day is there too. But yeah, so we wouldn't have to denote like the timing or anything in the calendar, but that would be reserved for a professional staff day. And then if we alter the hours or we like there's different evening um supervision

components to like some of the things I say like freshman orientation there's our job and career. There's a lot of things that happen in the evenings. So we could look at something like that include graduation. Yeah, I think it le I think if we make it if it's important and we make it more known then just assume that it's going to change. It's a lot different to set that expectation now after graduation. >> I can't really understand why. All right. So, is there a motion to approve the 2627 calendar as presented? >> I make a motion to approve the 267. There any further discussion? All those in >> favor election calendar. >> I'll be doing a lot of this with um there are threeear seats up for election. Um, and in the exhibits, it'll go

over just kind of the schedule of the election. Um, the candidate packets, which you can get from me or from the front office as well. Um, but if you ever have any questions about elections, you can definitely reach out to me. Our cover letter goes over all the important information and deadlines for anyone who wants to um, run. Uh, if you go online to our website, um, I have all of as well. Um, but you can definitely find all this here. Um, deadline to file is January 6 by 5 p.m. Um, and you must submit them to me at the district office. Um, and then I think the only two forms you need to submit are the declaration of candidacy and the campaign registration statement. There are also um samples templates that you can follow

um if you're not sure what to put in. Again, contact the district office and I can help you do it. All the other exhibits are what's included in the packets. You have your ballot access checklist here. again repeating that everything needs to be turned in by January 6 by 5:00 p.m. We do not do nomination papers and if anyone is asking that's just for very specific schools um so don't worry about the nomination paper if this is your first time running if you're unsure of something um the WASBY puts out a guide for candidates. It goes over everything. Pretty much all questions that you'll have can be found in these pamphlets, which I also include in the packets as well. And then, like I said, there are some samples here that you can look at.

Um, if you're not sure what to fill out, um, it's all provided right there. Anyone have any questions? construction. >> Um, our most recent meeting we had with Nexus on Tuesday of this week and it was really about um reviewing our detailed plans of security cameras and entrances and door security and we talked about door hardware. So that was really it's a lot of like we're kind of getting into the details of the planning now um instead of kind of those bigger picture like floor plans. So um so that was our most recent meeting. Our next meeting with Nexus will be our 95% design review and that's with our team on December 16th and then they'll be um presenting that 95% review to the board. maybe January since we're going to have that meeting on

the 16th, but I'll have to check with them to see if they want to come to you guys in January. >> Yeah. Yeah. So far, so like part of what Nexus does is ensure that we are meeting all those timelines. Um so sometimes that's why we have some longer meetings than others just to make sure that we're getting everything done within the time so that they can construction in the time frame that they're predicting that we want over the summer. Is everything going? >> Yeah, I I would say >> no. I would say um it is going to be smooth.
