001You going to give us the 543? >> Sorry, it's good now. Sorry. >> All right. 6 o'clock. I'll call the meeting to order. We'll start with roll call. Myself here. Melinda >> here. >> Tiffany >> here. >> Jonathan >> here. >> Nikki >> here. >> Jason >> here. >> Kelly >> here. >> All right. to join me with the pledge of allegiance. Pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all. >> All right. Next is our elected school board members take official oath. Sean is going to lead the group. The five that are getting sworn in would please stand. >> All right. We raise our right hands. All right. I state your name. >> Tiffany.
002>> Having been elected or appointed to the office of school board of the Right Community School District. having elected offices District, >> but have not yet entered upon the duties thereof. >> The duties thereof, >> swear or affirm that I will support the Constitution of the United States. >> Swear or that I support the Constitution of the United States, >> the Constitution of the State of Wisconsin. and the Constitution of the State of Wisconsin. >> I will faith faithfully discharge the duties of set office to the best of my ability. >> and will faithfully discharge the duties of set office to the best of my ability. >> So, do you want Amber, you want to come up and pick them up? >> Yeah. after they put their names on them and then you can notoriize
003them right away or Dan either. You got yours Dan you crimp them. >> All right. Next on the agenda is approval of agenda. So this is a new um area for us because we are experimenting with consent agenda tonight. So with a consent agenda, you have to have the ability to pull something out if you still want to talk about it. So the first part of the meeting is to approve the agenda as is, meaning that nobody wants to pull anything out of consent agenda. It also can doubly act as making sure that the postings were correct around town. So, in essence, by approving the agenda, you're acknowledging with Amber's help um that she has put them around town and they've been posted correctly as well as the agenda is correctly and you don't want
004to pull anything out of consent agenda. Make sense? >> Okay. All right. Back to you. >> All right. So, um in that just going to list them off. So, it's the March 18th uh meeting minutes, the April 1st workshop minutes, the approval of monthly bills, listings, receipts, and financials, and approval of the district staff retirements, resignations, appointments, and changes. Um, second reading also of the approval of new policy volume 35, number one, including new special update act 57 and 35-1 technical corrections. be looking for a motion to approve. >> I'll make a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented by Rain. >> I'll second. >> All those in favor? >> I. >> Anybody oppose? 70. >> All right. So, into student and staff achievement summer school update. But before we do that, we do
005have an achievement right here, folks. You just got done taking care of it. Congratulations. We're all caught up. your Niola sheetcake for getting caught up and nobody leaves without taking a piece. 2468. Yeah, plenty. You got plenty. Um but no, congratulations on getting caught up on the yman's effort and we look forward to 352 probably coming right around the corner. So, but we are all called caught up. Summer school update, Jen. >> Yes. Uh, so we are in full swing with scheduling. Um, the new endeavor that we jumped into, the arena scheduling. A huge thank you to Corey, Kenny Varta, and Stephanie Tilkins on making that happen. All of our families were able to get in with a little pickup that had happened, but we moved past that. And uh, so currently we have seven
006classes that are already at capacity and um, still coming in. And I was still looking at some of these um our me capacity. We have 26 uh teachers at this time and uh 17 pers that are interested in helping support those teachers. Um our closing date for that scheduling will be May 15th. So then we'll have even a better idea what our classes look like at that time. Uh really excited to have a music uh a middle school musical um this this year. So that is exciting and that that will take place at the high school at the auditorium. Um we also have the fallen timbers um option for the afternoons um for varying grade levels and those are filling up nicely as well. Um what a great opportunity to be able to partner with
007them in that environmental um center as well. >> Um a few more thank yous. Uh the um Miss Amanda Deiner helps organize the summer school closet. Just wanted to give her a shout out. Um there's a lot that goes in behind the scenes. Like even all the people sitting here at the table, they're bits and pieces with um strength and conditioning and all of the various parts. So, a lot of moving parts to bring it all together. But really pleased at this time with where we're at. Once again, it runs June 8th through the 25th, Monday through Thursday from 8 to 12, and that is our June um summer school. Um the final day of summer school is when our musical will be presented to the community at that time. Um, so if anyone was
008wondering about that and then as we get closer to completing our June session of summer school, more information will be coming out with regards to the August sessions which will run the week of August 24th through the 27th which also includes the uh new students um high school uh freshman orientation. Um so um Eric has been involved with that as well. So like I said, lots of moving parts. I think we learned a lot of things this year just given the fact that we wanted to move to the arena scheduling portal and try to be able to to do that have have Skyward be used as the tool to get uh students registered just to try to make things run more streamlined and more um efficient on all parts. So just just really pleased as
009to where we are right now with the whole process and um like I said May 15th is the the final cut off. So then we'll be able to um further notify staff of you know the number of students or class lists and then um having a meeting on May 27th um at 3:15 to bring all of our our our staff together for summer school and then kind of lay lay out what that will look like for them too. So thank you. >> So can you elaborate for those they might not know who Amanda is? >> Oh sure. Amanda Viner is our nurse um here on staff um at the elementary school and she um she just she just is a great help to Penny and I in the office and and does lots of things
010that that go above and beyond her titles. So I just wanted to make sure that um she got recognized as well. So um rather than give her a shout out. >> Yeah. And I'm going to piggyback on that and we have two school nurses here and they both do a fantastic job. I get to see Amanda almost on a daily basis and she's amazing on what she does in the offices and I'm sure it's the same thing in the middle school and high school offices as well. They're just they're just a gem that we are very appreciative to have and the care and concern they show for children is amazing. >> Jump rope for heart. Baby, you're still up. >> Yes. So, an amazing uh jump rope for heart. Um, honestly, I don't even know
011what the past had. I don't know what the past had generated, but this year the 2026 uh jump rope for heart raised $6,57959 for the American Heart Association. So, congratulations to not only did our students help to raise the money for important research, they learned how to take care of their art. Um, a huge shout out to um Amy Collins and Mars, our our PE teachers. Um, they are the ones who coordinated that. Um, there were little milestone um gifts along the way for students um reaching their goals and then they tracked um different things in the gym with related to their heart health. So, just really thank you. This this community has always been super giving and um once again it it just shows in in what uh what we've raised here. So, thank
012you. heart welcoming. No pun intended. >> Awesome. >> All right. Next is the forensics winners of the WFCA state championship. >> Right. >> Craig, you want to introduce our guest? >> The one and only the management. This is their second repeat and seventh overall uh in the WFCA. Uh that is the Wisconsin Forensics Coaches Association uh state tournament. It was on Nina and he had to do it with prom. All right. So had that and had uh we had a lot of logistics moving parts but uh as many of you know if you don't know if you don't know Dave his uh his energy that he and uh his investment that he puts into those kids that program is awesome. Right. So Greg you want I know you want to say some words. stand. >>
013You can you can stand right over here at at the at the podium. That's our That's it. Yeah, that's right there. >> Was thinking I should bring a black book and I should bring a tripod and I could demonstrate some of our kids. >> Um I'm just super appreciative for the support that we get here at the school. Um you know, our season began really with the first Saturday in February. That was our first tournament we hosted this year. Um so it's kind of nice to start at home. But uh even though we started in February, really we started really you could say we started back in June. This is a year round thing. The kids who are really invested get after it and it's just a joy and a pleasure to work with them.
014Um so we compete in the WFCA Wisconsin forensic coaches association. So again, that season technically begins in January. We started in February. Um we go out every Saturday. That's a commitment for kids to go out every Saturday, you know, to get up early. But uh they do it and they grow and they thrive. It's just fantastic. So uh you know, we've been going, uh we had our state tournament, uh 25 entries as a full team. We were able to get 25 entries this year. 65 teams total in the state tournament. Everybody's in the same pool um regardless of school size. But uh so we won D3 small school um with our enrollment of 431. Um second place was St. Croy Falls I think at 900. They're still D3. But um if you look at the
015whole pool, 65 schools, we were seventh overall in the state, you know. So the programs were hanging with our programs with a th00and 2,000 plus students in their schools. So uh our kids work really hard. Um they really get after it. And again, we couldn't do this without the support of our board and and uh you know, every you know, the support that you give us. Um, part of what makes this work is we do nationals. Um, you know, we do WFCA, but we also, uh, do the Wisconsin Forensic Coaches Association. Um, for kids who want to do nationals, we do National Speech and Debate Association. Uh, we do the National Catholic um, forensic league. So, we're going to have six kids. We already have six kids qualify to go to DC. Um, that'll be
016over Memorial Weekend. Um, we have kids. Actually, I was doing some videos tonight. We had a deadline at 5:00 uh to get videos up for calls for NSDA. So, those will be adjudicated over the next few days. We'll find out this weekend how our kids did. Um, but I'm hoping we can, you know, get a group of maybe three, four, five kids to take out to Richmond, Virginia this summer, too. So, lots of great opportunities. Again, we're very fortunate and um I'm very personally very appreciative. Thank you for all you do for us. Um, I always tell the kids our success is a return on the investment of the district. So, uh, I think that's important. I mean, we know we have limited resources. They could be allocated anywhere else, you know, so we always
017want to do our best, you know, to pay that back. So, thank you. Appreciate it. >> Thank you. back to conferences >> and thanks for improving our lexicon. Move on. >> You know what that means? Elementary student achievement. >> No, >> elementary student achievement was I believe was it in your notes? >> Yes. >> And so we've seen that it was there anything you wanted to >> have a slideshow to kind of >> Okay. >> Um >> Okay. So here we are. This is our regal elementary uh achievement report. We are currently in our spring testing window. So, we don't have the spring numbers yet because we're still assessing students. We are also wrapping up our gardens data assessment this week for our third and fourth graders. Um, so I just wanted to u make
018you aware of that as well. So, this reflects um from fall to winter and if you look the next page here. Yeah. No, I'm sorry. Sorry. Uh one of the biggest indicators and things that we need to have is great attendance and this daily rate of attendance at 95% is is a awesome foundation for academic growth. So kids are here, they're learning and that is what we hope to see. So this is really um a plus for us here and a great um great on the next page. Um this represents our ELA in the yellow and our math in the green. It shows what our baseline score in the fall was, what our students were scoring in the fall in ELA with the 54.1% for our fall baseline. Then when they are assessed in winter,
019they grew by 16.6 growth points to be at the 70.7 percentile sorry percent of growth. So these are some really great growth and trends in the right direction. And so now what I will do then uh for the future is we can do some comparisons from fall to spring. We can do them from winter to spring to just kind of see are our students still growing and um the programs that we have um that built within uh work started before me. Uh so we have what we call thumbs and we also have a TAT and a TAT stand for teacher assistance team and our thumbs is where we get our grade levels together with um with Ellie here who's in attendance and we talk about students and their performance b whether it is academic or
020behavioral concerns and what can we put into place to help our students continue to grow if they're not showing the progress that we want to see. Um and so those programs that or processes I should really say are are um in place and and are working and this data trends that we're seeing here shows that those are working. Um, and when we notice maybe an individual student is not doing what this particular growth that we want to see them do, then we may call for a keeper assistant team meeting where we bring all the the pleasures together, all the all the teachers, all of the supports that we have, and um, our RTI staff, which would be our our Mrs. Johnson, our Mrs. Poon Center, Mrs. um Haitians who would then also look at the
021data that they have from further um progress monitoring of students along their their um academics whether it's math or reading and uh just ba basically getting together to discuss what else can we do or what else can we provide to help these students continue to grow. Um and then uh we also bring parents in on on um the TAT uh meetings. They're they're always invited to to join us as well. um and just further brainstorm ways, you know, they could help support what we're doing here at school. >> Um so we know that we have amazing teachers here in Ricetown and that is also shown with this growth because they are the ones who are have the bush on the ground every day putting forth the strong instruction to get the performances that you're seeing
022in this report. So, this is kind of like the timeline of of what we do. So, in the beginning of the year, we're preparing for our students and the testing periods that are coming up. Um, and every day um you know, like I said, boots on the ground, making sure that we are hitting the standards we need to hit and reinforcing and retaching when we need be. And then we always come into that testing period and and that's where we are here. Um spring is a huge time for that to kind of bring it all together and that's where it we are here at the final week. Um uh after we finish uh and have completion we will be meeting then in our April 30th and May 1st uh professional development days. Next slide. And
023this is where we'll have our classroom teachers and our RTI and our EL teacher. everyone heading around the table talking about kids and once again how can we advance them? How can we improve what we do every day? Continue to have those forest um growth rise. Um so this is just a little um a little glimpse into what it is and um just put some some pictures into it but you actually have the data in a one sheeter in your in your board reports. Um so this is just another way to show that. So basically if you throw in on the final slide the attendance and uh targeted math and reading uh instruction and the staff collaboration through our professional development that's where we bring it all together and that's how we can have our
024continuous uh achievement and improvement for our kids. So that is my report for you today. >> Thank you. >> All right. Next is uh upcoming events. Um this is not an all-inclusive list, so if there's something to add, please let me know. Uh new school school board member gathering on April 21st. If anyone wishes to attend um the fifth grade DARE graduation on April 23rd at 2 p.m. at the Reichkes Middle School uh at the elementary school professional development day, there will be no school on April 30th and May 1st. at the middle school, the spring concert May 7th at 7 pm. High school fine arts night May 13th at 6 pm and high school scholarship awards 6 p.m. and academic awards 7 p.m. May 20th high school graduation then following on May 22nd at
0257 p.m. Um the only one that I I know I'm past the arts night we typically had a board meeting. It's usually fallen just in natural. Um I don't know if we wanted to >> go to the high school. >> Yeah. >> Well, our board meeting wouldn't be that night, right? >> Yeah. Isn't it May 13th? >> No, I think we 20th. >> Which is going to be the awards night. >> Yeah. >> So, we want to move it. Is that what you're saying? I'd love to move it. >> Yeah. Kids getting awards. I think that there's probably some >> the scholarship starts at six and then awards is at seven. >> So we we definitely need to move. >> So the the idea would be either you move and go the 13th which would
026be our workshop meeting and the 27th be our board meeting or we do backtoback 6th and 13th. I liked when we did um our meeting on the 13th so that we could go to the fine arts night and walk around and then come for our meeting, but I don't know if that works for everybody. >> That's a great idea. >> Yeah, I hope the 13th and the 27th >> be out of state on the 13th. >> The 27th is too late for the board meeting in May. There are certain things that are probably going to need to be done. So, I would highly suggest that you do the regular board meeting at 7 o'clock on the 13th. >> Gives you time to walk around >> and then keep the workshop on the 6th. >> In
027past, what we've done is we've called the meeting, then we've walked as a group. >> Where could we go? >> Take a recess. >> Yeah. >> I'm final to whichever way. So you're saying we should keep >> we could the logistics but just figure out which states >> cuz even if it's set up we could walk through earlier. I think we did that one year. Am I remembering that wrong? So back to back sixth and 13th >> stage back then >> we're gonna I mean the that would be the meeting we would elect officers and stuff right >> typically I'm in Texas that whole week so I would prefer to be at the meeting. >> Um >> we can do that on the 6th. >> I won't be here on the 6th. Do we change
028it to a Monday? >> So, who who's available on the 19th or >> the 21st? >> I can make those days work. >> I have no idea. >> I won't be here. I can't do either of those. Well, no, I can't do either of those days. I have kids sports, but >> yeah, >> do it on the 18th. >> Monday the 18th. >> Just pause. >> Uh the only event is softball, but that should be done by >> Is it like a regular season? >> It's at home. It's reasonably He doesn't want to wire things up of an AU. >> Yeah, that's the 18th. That would be fine. >> Although the weather could be resal or warriors might be soft. So, we're saying the sixth and 18th. >> The 18th and the sixth is at
029the middle school. >> We talked about that being at the middle school. >> Is that okay with everybody to do the workshop at the middle school? >> I like that idea. >> Okay. Sounds like 6th and 18th. >> Where are we meeting? >> Middle school. um the library unless you hear differently. >> What do you think would be here as normal? >> Correct. >> Wait, where did you what did you say? >> 18th year. >> Here or at the high school? >> It's not May 13th, so there's not Oh, >> sorry. Yeah. Yeah. So, we can do here and the 18th. Right. >> And I'll double check how the pro procedure. You might have to approve moving the the meeting to the 18th on the 6th. But I'll double check to make sure that we
030can because it's not on the agenda to >> as an actionable item. >> So if it if it needs to be officially an actionable item, I'll put it on the sixth. But >> since Brian's here, he'll let everybody know anyway. So, we should be good. >> Did you sign it? >> The 18th >> and the sixth. >> Sixth is a workshop. 18th is the meeting. >> Where is the location on sixth >> middle school library? Thank you. >> 18th is here. >> Correct. Okay, next is um open form and sign up. All right, action items. Uh discussion and consideration to approve the the sale of alcohol on district property for the Rightstone Area Baseball Association travel and little league tournaments. Um, is it correct from last meeting that John and Tiffany are going to abstain
031from discussion and vote? >> You're going to excuse yourself, right? >> I'm going to Okay. >> All right. any questions um with the attachments that were added? >> I don't have any qu I don't have any questions. I can just fill you in. So, when we approved the sale for the village to have their events here, we covered the fact that there was no AODA grants that would be affected by this. Um I assume that hasn't changed. Um >> I did contact uh Chief Padet of the Ranks Police Department. He um had contacted Depir and a few other municipalities locally and he had contacted their police departments and his contacts there and there they have never had there no issues that they've had that they've had to respond to a ballpark or or an incident.
032So just informing the board, I mean crossing te's, dotting eyes that this is really going to be should be a non issue. >> And just for clarification, we're just we're doing this yearbyear. >> Yes. >> Yeah. Can we make sure that the approval is just for a one-year approval? Do we have to change that? if there there needs to be a motion, whatever the motion is. >> So, I'll make the motion. Oh, I'm sorry. Does anybody else have any other comments? >> The only question I have is let's just play a devil's advocate. Worst case scenarios, we grant them approval and the first term it has a disastrous event. Like I'm just saying does that create any kind of stop point to say like if it doesn't go well we don't continue at further tournaments
033or does again should be an issue I think it's just a point of reflection right we have to assess what happened is >> the event in itself then year by year make a decision you know was systematic what needs to change or if it was just >> I just not only year by year but also So in the midst of it, that was my only question. Like if there was a some some event that happened the first second, there's three tournaments. So if the first one goes really well and the second one has it or something like that, does that affect the approval? They say like we don't want you to continue to sell for the third tournament because of what happened or like just that was the only thing that crossed my mind from
034a standpoint of like if it doesn't go well, can we cut it off beforehand? Um it's a little bit different than the board's approval or the um village's approval because it's a one time event. So that's the only difference here is you are approving three separate events. >> You have the right as a board to call a special board meeting in a 24-hour period of time. So if something would go ary on a given weekend, the following Monday, you could somebody could ask for a special board meeting and you could set up special board meeting within not sooner than 24 hours later and have this as a discussion item and end it right then and there. So you you have a built-in mechanism to do that. So you don't have to put that in the
035>> just you're not all in if >> things are not going well. >> So the the approval doesn't need that part because you you always have that right. >> Thank you. >> Are there questions? So, I will make a motion to allow the sales of alcohol on a year-by-year basis. Um, no, no. I'll make a motion to to make to have the sale of alcohol um for the WABA tournaments listed under the agreed upon time frames that have been listed for this summer. only >> 2026. >> Yes. For the summer 2026. >> I'll second the motion. >> Amber, can you read that back so they know what they're voting on? >> I was just going to put a motion to approve the sale of alcohol for the Wava tournaments for 2026 or summer of 2026
036as presented. That covers the points on the date. >> Yes, >> everybody. Okay. >> Thank you. >> All those in favor? >> I >> Anybody opposed? So 50 and two. Motion carries. >> So 502 abstensions. All right. Uh, next on the agenda is discussion and approval of the busing RP recommendation. >> I passed around. Hopefully all of you had a chance to just look at that. Um, we received that final copy literally an hour before the board meeting and it reflects the uh management letter that we sent to you. Um, it there is a few changes. Year 1 is a is a 12% increase. Year two is a 10%. Year three is an 8%. Then years four, five, and six would be 4%. Um the last two years are uh the right within a 180day
037window for either either uh the district or the bus company to ask for a renewal. Um, so it in essence is a 4 plus two. Um, so you're not tying yourself in for six years, you're tying yourself in for four, but the plus two is at 4% which is a really good rate. Um, so we appreciate that. Uh, in essence, they met us halfway to get the increases that they felt they needed, but did it over a three-year period and and and were a little bit gracious the first year um to spread it out so we can budget more appropriately. Um, and I have to give all the credit to that to Dan. it was his idea to go back to them and see if they would be willing to to smoo it over a
038little bit um and to make it at you 1210 and 8 instead of 21 four and a half four and a half. So that helps us with budgetary matters. Um we did do as we had said before we did do an RFP and layers Kobasen and Rightway all submitted bids so we were very happy with that. Um, a lot of times you don't get people to bid on it. Uh, their bids were semicompetitive. Um, but they were still higher than what we had. So, we would ask um that you would approve the contract that you have in front of you for with first student um for the 4 plus two as the contract states. Um, and uh, it's it was good to do our due diligence and see what was out there to make sure
039that our pricing was in line with what others were doing. And so it was a good exercise. Appreciate Dan's hard work on that. And uh, it's it's the best deal we can bring forward to you. >> So the last two years, just for clarification, that last two years are uh, mutual renewal years, right? either either side could ask for renewal >> Six months ahead of time. But the the percentage that inc the 4% increase doesn't change based upon that. Correct. >> I think they we or they could be uh asked to come to the table and talk about that percentage. Mhm. >> And you know if uh CPI is really low we we may we may say hey 4% is is a little high if CPI is really high they might do as well and
040come and say I mean 4% you know where they should be getting you know seven or eight% or whatever what have you and that has happened in the past where we come together and talk about it. We can come together and talk about it, but we are we are essentially still locked in to the 4% if if if there is no agreement. >> Correct. >> Okay. Okay. Fair. >> Need to see contract again? >> Anybody need to see the contract? >> Other questions? I'll make a motion to approve the contract we have for first student for the 4 plus two. >> I'll second it. >> All those in favor? >> I. >> Anybody opposed? Carry 70. All right. >> Administrator reports. >> I'll start. March 26th, our elementary students celebrated the end of the third
041quarter with a special visit from Jim Lens. And if you don't know who he is, he's a magic and science guy, award-winning educator who likes to inspire students through laughter and wonder and curiosity. Um he shared engaging magic tricks and interactive demonstrations that included our tiger values in a fun and exciting way. It was a wonderful way to celebrate um how far we've come thus far in the school year. So that was fun. And then we have our Wisconsin Timber Rattlers who um always host Spain's reading club and lots of our students are participating in that and they they honor students who are consistently reading and and getting into those good reading habits at a young age. Students have the opportunity to participate and earn incentives along the way at each base, first base, second
042base, third base, elevator, and home run. and they are awarded a free ticket with a hot dog and a soda voucher for their school's family night um at the Timber Rather Stadium. And our family night um for Reichkestown will be held on Sunday, May 17th. And that game begins at 1:10. So just wanted to share that with you in case we might have nothing to do on that day. Um then our Wes um student council is currently having right now a coin war um this week from April 13th through the 17th for the Veterans of Northeast Wisconsin. These efforts go to support the Veterans Against Hunger Food Tribe and the money raised will support all Ricetown area food pantries. The raid that raises the most money will earn a pajama party for their efforts. Um
043so this is one way we can thank our veterans. And then also I want to thank um our WES um student council advisors who are Ellie Wendor and Hannah Campb. So they are the ones who help get all those things in order. So thank you. >> Thanks Ellie. >> Angie, would you like please go next? >> Um I want to just start off by giving a huge thank you to Ally Winch, Amanda Fidal, Emily Ericson, and Angela Eer. um they helped with writing a McKini Ventro compliance grant. Um and thank you to Dan and Jim for forwarding that on this week. So we did take advantage of that opportunity. Um so that will be submitted prior to April 17th which is coming up quick. Um and if we are selected we'll get $10,000 for the
04426 27 school year and then the second year is non-competitive. So if we're awarded the first year, we'll get 10,000 for the second year as well. So um so uh basically the activities are kind of guided by DPI all of the goals um just bringing districts into compliance with um making mental and meeting the needs of our homeless students. Um also want to thank Ashley Zazy. She is our RN from Amplify Help um who works um very part-time in the district. um and Roland Schmidt, they trained our emergency response teams. Um they went through AED in CPR training as well as stop and lead training. Um and it is very difficult to find dates that work for 21 people. So, we're close. There's just a few people who still need training, but they'll get trained
045over the summer. So, um next year we will be able to hit the ground running with the teams. Um during August we'll train all staff about emergency response teams who's on each team in each building and then um we'll run scenarios in each building. Um yeah and we'll be outside for the school year. >> Eric, >> all right. Report from the high school ACT testing uh went very well. We had 100% of our juniors complete the exam. Um which is really incredible. Um, our our day is really an all hands- on deck event. Uh, Mrs. Wendy, Mrs. Pell really did an outstanding job preparing and implementing everything. Katie Huey and her staff uh, in the kitchen gave our students a really, really nice breakfast, snacks during testing and Corey and Matt supported technology. They did
046a lot of work on the front end meeting with our juniors to make sure everything was working uh, the week prior. Um, so the online testing went smoothly even though we had a tense, we'll call it tense, 30 minute statewide internet outage right in the middle of our testing. Um, but we persevered. We were done by 12:30. Uh, it went very well. Everyone cooler prevailed and we got through. Uh, students were focused and ready. Staff again worked very hard to make that day run smoothly. We did have a overall calm, supportive testing environment. Again, a huge thank you to everyone that made that successful. Um, Sources of Strength hosted its March Madness Bag tournament which culminates in our all school assembly. Congratulations to Daniel Bun Buntton and Bennett Stangle uh on being this year's champions.
047Additionally, the entire school began work on the Sources of Strength mural which will be displayed proudly for the school and community to see once it's finished. As you walk in the fieldhouse, you'll see it straight in front of you. That'll be the new wall where the mural will be. It was a great event for the entire school as we spend the spread the message of hope, health, and strength. Again, thank you to our advisor, Mrs. Barnes, Mrs. Braum, um Mr. McDonald, and Mrs. Pettimemer to organize that grid. It's a lot of organization. It's a a schoolwide event. They did a fantastic job. Our seniors uh participated in the Youth Frontiers Wisdom Retreat. It's a capstone activity to really help them reflect on their high school experience and commit to leaving a positive legacy at the
048high school. Uh students reported a sense of reconnection with their classmates. As you might know that slide start earlier uh but they definitely reconnected with classmates and they had you know built that desire to end the school year on a positive note. Mrs. Brown uh organized that event and shared that students were actively engaged in a day filled with music games, reflection, live music, positive messages, and a bunch of our students really took to the microphone near the end to thank individuals who helped them through their high school journey. And one student said, "Before this retreat, I was ready to get the heck out of here. Now, I'm looking forward to hanging out with you guys for the next few weeks." Um, so we're grateful to Mrs. Ron uh Brown's work for bringing guidance to
049the high school and to the district and the community support for that one. >> That's the right >> add something. So I went to the March Madness bean bag tournament and it was just it amazed me like the staff have a VIP section. They all eat their lunches there. Um in this section all the kids bring their bag lunches so it's like this really big thing to book it put together. It was just really impressive. They were all like quiet while being not quiet, but like >> so eating their lunches and everything was just like super seamless. It was a really nice event to to watch. So, thank you for everybody that all these organizers and yeah, it was really well put together. >> Thanks. >> Thank you, Eric. And thank you for also uh
050committing to uh an average 24 point 24 and a half points for the ACT for our our kids that you're committed to making sure that happens. >> Thank you. I appreciate that. >> And and Cory, that 30 minute delay, the 30 minute delay is not going to be on your evaluation. All right. But Cory, you're up next. uh health community room is one of the projects that the board approved recently. Um that room is now complete. Um it has a features a new laser projector, new amplifiers, new video switchers, inputs and reposition screen, makes everything more functional and consistent. Um and uh we're getting a lot of use out of it. So, I want to thank Lisa Brown for her feedback and all the plans over the course of the year making sure we get
051kind of designed the way we wanted to. Thanks to Craig as well for feedback and just all the different people that use it and also Chris Snap's team as they had to move quite a few things in order to to get it to work. So, get a chance to stop in there, please do it. It's really nice. Direct admit program. This is more um also kind of bringing things this more Stephanie Tubkins that did a lot of this work, but I thought it was important. It's also kind of a high school thing too, but uh it's been in the background as far as the new assist manager position. So direct admit is not for to send juniors from the 2526 school year 2627 school year. Uh that ability to opt out eligible uh students while
052allowing any student to be excluded if they choose not to participate. So we prepared a compliant transcript. You can submit all required information to the uh UW system on time managing the process either individually by student profile or for efficiency. Um, so like I said, would like to say thank Stephanie for really taking this on. Uh, also to Eric and Ally Winch for initiating this and making sure that right students can participate. So I think it's a really good thing that we are now in this and ready to take that forward. Um, I won't do a summer school one because we it's already so you kind of all pretty much same kind of thing. Uh, I'll just make sure that people say if they have questions, please go to the website writestown.wsummer school. It's under
053departments because it's not really a school. So on the main page, you can click departments, click summer school. Just a ton of information. Every single time we get a series of questions, we put it added to the FAQ. There's videos on there to help people. Any kind of explanations, timelines, things like that. We're really trying to make sure that people have all their things answered as we change quite a bit in the in the the back end this year. So, um, we look to look forward to not changing a lot in the coming years and having this be sort of the the process moving forward. So, >> here we go. Testing, testing, testing is the theme. Our students are working really hard to make your way through successfully the forward testing requirements. Our students are
054showing great commitment to the process, and we are especially grateful for our dedicated teachers who not only administer the assessments with care and professionalism, but also go above and beyond to prepare students throughout the school year. Additionally, staff across the building, literally everybody in the middle school is contributing to in a meaningful way during the testing period working together to create a positive experience for our students. Now, just so you know, the second thing I'm going to be talking about I really I should have shared the last time, but I knew I wouldn't be here and I just wanted to see all your faces when you figure out who really won this next challenge because you know we love a big challenge at the middle school. So, as a followup to the middle school challenge
055that took place during uh between February 16th and spring break, I wanted to update you on the results. Not that any of you would be surprised. If you remember, the challenge included grade levels with the least amount of behavioral writeups. Not that we get that many, right? Uh will earn a treat of their choice. During this challenge, we focused on what it means to be a tiger at WMS. Be kind, be respectful, be productive. And the winner is, you might have guessed it, which grade? >> Fifth grade. >> They keep winning every the upper the upper students are not impressed by the fifth grade to do to win. So, they're they're not happy about that. Good thing we keep the fifth graders in their own little safe wing. Uh all of um honestly did well
056and u we're really proud of the students um and the teachers too. So a lot of fun. >> All right. Um so it's going to be a common theme. Uh we've successfully completed ACT pret. Again a huge shout out to Ally Winch and Eric because that was a new undertaking for both of them. Uh they did a great job organizing the students. Again 100% ACT um is amazing. We have just a few followup uh pre-at students who need to finish that. Forward testing at the high school is relative. I think there's just one or two students who need to finish that. And then the elementary and middle school are finishing up their testing this week. Uh and that entire window closes April 24th and we will be happy happy. Uh maybe our students will be
057more happy than we are, but we have it when that's done. Um my next point isn't super accurate anymore for when I wrote this last Wednesday. So, our uh ELA selection committee uh had six vendors come and do virtual presentations to us. It was amazing. Very overwhelming day. We narrowed it down to where two different resources for the elementary school and then two different resources for the middle school. And then this week we had two of those presentations virtually with other schools who use those resources. I was able today to secure one for Tuesday next week of a third. Magnetic Literacy is another resource that we're looking for uh looking into and so we were able to secure time with the school district next week Tuesday. So we're approaching the uh the deadline to determine
058which one it is till next week Wednesday. So I'm hoping by May 6th to come and be like this is the the LA resource we want to pilot potentially K5 K6 and then 68 depending on what it is. So it has been a great process. I have to give a huge shout out to the team. they have really gone above and beyond meeting after school hours to meet with different schools really really being invested in this process. So um I just been very thankful for that team. And then lastly March 27th in service it seems like that was a really long time ago um but that was very well received by our staff. that will be our last full uh full pool full day PB and so they were able to learn about investments which
059was really great feedback from our staff on just knowing like oh my gosh I got to probably be thinking about this. So that was WBA trust came in and then Corey did some stuff on AI policy and ethical use uh along with exploring different tools that they could use to help their day-to-day tasks as a teacher. They then, I think, found it really appreciative that they were given time after learning about the tools, uh, time to create different things that they could immediately use within their classroom that next week. And then we followed it up with a new insurance broker that we have, like that's a thing. Um, and teachers needed to learn a little bit more about our new insurance broker and how to be wise consumers of our insurance. Uh, which is always
060a good thing. And so overall, the day was a huge success. So the teachers appreciate those paper. be prepared. >> All right. And it's the season for state competitions for our super activity groups. Uh as we had Mr. Winkler in here before, you can see his passion for forensics just oozes out of them and gets a ton of the kids excited. Everything else uh they won the state championship last weekend. Talk about that. Their second three, seventh overall. Our awesome WFBLA group participated in the state competition at the KI Center in downtown Green Bay, which is kind of nice. It's pretty close. So, we can go back and forth with buses from school. Uh, if you remember back, we had 49 students qualified. All right, which was the second most we ever had. And as
061of this morning, talked to Mr. Dell, we had 10 kids advanced to nationals. Uh, nationals is the last week of June in San Antonio, Texas. All right. So, pretty cool for those kids. And Mr. Dell asked that. I said that's the most I remember. And, uh, he said this was the second most. They had 11 like 20 years ago or something like that. Uh but pretty awesome there. Our uh FFA state career and leadership development event uh at WMadison is next Friday. We actually had two teams who qualified for that. So they'll be battling there and I'll give you an update next month. Uh and then we had one student that uh uh qualified for the state solo ensemble. All right. Fernando uh Guacindo Cruz with the Tanner Saxophone. He was one that played for
062us um at our at our service. That was pretty cool there. Of course, spring sports is off and rolling, but yeah, might have to have a swing swim team or something. We do have a highlight, though. Um, Alex Velfort, a junior, broke the jump school record setback over 50 years ago. All right. By the local legend Bruce Levers, you see him walking the streets in the morning in 1976. and some guy named Jason Garrett in 199. All right. Both those gentlemen jumped 65, but Alex jumped 66. All right. Pretty cool. He actually jumped 18 times that night. >> All right. So, it's kind of cool. So, it's be interesting to see how high you can go up as a season >> gets going. Thank you. >> I don't know how I follow the positivity with
063budget talk, right? Go first. first. >> Yes. Um, so over the last couple months, I talked to you about the state budget and the state budget called for 42% reimbursement rate in special, right? And you know that number is is a set number, not an actual percent. So there's some conseration about what that number is actually going to be. Um, the TPI, the original numbers came out at 35%. if you do the if you reverse engineer the math. So, everyone gets a little excited about it. Um there has been calls for the state legislature to reconvene and use some surplus dollars to um to alleviate that that they could fully fund the 42%. I think it's $200 million to do that. Um and still leaving uh quite a bit of money left in the state
064surplus. Uh thus far there's been no no agreement. Uh as of the other day, there was a news article saying they are going to get together again and and talk about it. Uh, no news yet. Uh, but, uh, as I told you before, we did budget conservatively at 35%. So, anything above that would be good for our district. I do think it's going to be a little higher than 35%, but I'm not sure if we'll get to to 42. Um, other than that, uh, working on the 26 27 budget. And just to kind of set the table for you guys, uh, the plan typically is to approve a preliminary budget in June. So we will um at the May workshop we'll bring some information for you to kind of set the table for that um
065as we work towards that preliminary budget and then as you know the annual meeting would be then meet in September and then in October you would officially approve the budget and the tax levy. So just kind of starting set stable for for next year and uh that's all I have. So to uh piggyback on some of the things that Dan said in your packet, you had the expenditure expenditure performance report, the one that you asked for was included in there and that um showed a 59.47% of the budget has been spent and for this time of the year, end of March, that's right in line, maybe even a little bit on the lower side. So that's good news. Uh we also ran it with the special projects that you approved above and beyond the regular
066budget and if you added those into the expenditure report it would get us to 64.29%. Again still within the limits of what you've seen over the last 10 years. So um we're we're we're we're looking good at this point in time um for the end of March. So, that that's good news. Um, I wanted to thank Amber for putting together this Neiola cake. That was She didn't make it. Fortunately, she didn't make it. Just kidding. JK. Um, but uh that was all her idea and uh so thank you for that. It was all Kelly's idea. So, Kelly, thank you for that. I always like sugar and that's good. >> Um and uh yeah, as Dan kind of alluded to, um besides the others, testing is kind of winding down and then we're going to go
067into trying to finish the year in good standing with all the celebrations. I think that's the thing that I wanted to end with. We we we have to keep in mind that this is a celebration of a lot of great things that have happened this year. Um we we're still doing some heavy lifting. There's no doubt about that. Um and it can get a little bit gruesome, tiresome, uh very uh emotionally draining uh at this time of the year, but our people are doing a great job and sticking with it. And we've got six, eight weeks left. and uh they they are doing a great job, but we also hope that they can enjoy and appreciate all their hard work as we finish off the year. So, thank you to everyone um especially those people
068in the back row right there. So, thank you for all your hard work. >> Thank you. >> All right. >> Oh, one other thing. Can Can you call up Colette and Sarah and have them cut the cake for people so nobody before before they leave. I gota get a picture before it gets cut out. >> Yeah. >> Anybody want to make a motion on them? >> All right. >> Uh with that, it's next on the agenda is executive session. The board of education may upon motion duly made and cured convene in close session under one or more of the exemptions provided in section 19.851. 851 Wisconsin statute for the following purposes. Wisconsin statute 19.851C for purposes of considering employment promotion compensation or performance evaluation data of any public employee over which the governmental body has
069jurisdiction or exercises responsibility specifically feature non-renewal and district administration evaluations. Looking for a motion to go into close session. I'll make the motion I go. >> All those in favor? >> Anybody oppose? >> 70 700 p.m.
