second. I have to call the meeting to order. >> I told them that >> you have a few minutes to wait. >> Give us one second while we do a couple businessy things, then we'll get to the fun part. >> I will call the meeting to order. At 5:03, we have Emily. >> All right. I am here. Renee, >> yes. >> Emily, >> yes. >> April is not with us tonight. At least we'll see if she is here. Chris, >> yes. >> Kyle, >> here. >> Marcus, >> here. >> Aaron, >> yes. >> We don't have Jada tonight. Okay. Um, second on approve the agenda. I would like to propose. We're going to flip items number three and four. So, we'll have our music presentation go first and then and then move on to our

student council report. Um, so can I get a motion to approve the agenda with that change? >> So, move. Yes. >> Second from Emily. >> All right. All in favor? >> Any opposed? >> All right. We have a musical presentation tonight. Welcome. >> Hi guys. >> Turn it over to you. >> All right. Well, I've got members here of sixth grade, seventh grade, eighth grade, ninth grade, 10th grade, and 12th grade. So, our junior did not come tonight. Um, but so these are members of our middle and high school band and we are gonna play a set of Christmas carols for you. Okay. So, we're gonna play Jolly Old St. Nicholas and then we're going to wish you a merry Christmas. So, all right. >> Excuse me. >> Do what you have to do. >>

All right, guys. You ready? >> Ready as I'm going to get. >> All right. Here we go, guys. I'll take one and two. Ready and Heat. Heat. That face is priceless. Wish you merry Christmas. One, two, three. One, two. Heat. Heat. Thank you so much. We appreciate you coming in to share that with us. Not all of us get to come to concerts anymore. So, >> yep. We just had our winter concert on Monday night. So, I think it went pretty well. >> Stressful. >> I did a lot of running. >> I feel bad. >> Oh, yeah. We're going to be so good next time. >> Maybe. He did it. >> Well, he's special. >> I am special. >> No, you I mean, >> I know you guys are just so It's not me. That's

what they all say. >> We laugh a lot in the bathroom. >> Well, thank you for letting us >> arm. You know what I mean? >> All right. And now we are on to our student council report. >> Welcome. Hello. I'm Emily Hill and I'm here on behalf of the student council and I am the secretary. Here is what Frederick's students did in December and what is coming up. The student council recently hosted an assembly on December 5th for trimester 1 awards. We had an all out an all school rock paper scissors competition with sixth grade winning the whole thing. We also had staff trivia Jeopardy and 10th grade was named the winner for that. On December 23rd, student council will host an afternoon of fun before the holiday break. Students will get to choose

between the following activities. open gym, movie and popcorn, cookie decorating, and board games. We will also have a dress up contest on Monday and Tuesday of that week with students and staff dressing up as their favorite holiday characters and holiday pajamas. December's middle school staff member of the month, as voted by the student body, was Mrs. Walstrom and Mr. Draxler for the high school. After the break, we will planning for the next assembly in January. We will focus on building up school spirit and engagement for all 6 through 12 students. We will also be starting to build different challenges for all students to exhibit great character and school spirit in an everyday situation. More details will be shared at that Emily. Do we have any persons requesting an audience with the board tonight? Going once,

going twice, it's going three times. All right, I made intense side. All right, we are on to our consent agenda. There's some meeting minutes. Um Kyle, anything you want to call to our attention from invoices and receipts? >> Sure. The one for Chris Peterson, uh expense 29101 for 40,000. That is the love and logic which is paid through the connections. >> They play their We have two to the 300 club. One is $125. That's just for pizza for operation health. And then the 1275 is the football banquet. That comes out of their budget, not our general budget. But if you see that for 1275, you wonder that's what it is. >> Um, same thing with like Kill Studios 29178. That $1,65 that's for banners for athletics. And then under cash receipts, you'll see a whole

bunch of second, third grade field trip, and they're all the same, parents paid for the trip, it got snowed out. But the theater is allowing them to go to a show later this spring, so they'll still get to go. But if you see a whole bunch of those in, you're like, "Oh boy, we're paid for that field trip." It's okay. We're taken care of there. And we uh 241830 is our EMC, our insurance dividends. $3,320. And right above that, we have the One Energy Solar Grant. That's 241290. That's their 5,000. They did send us a check for 2500 because I checked off the wrong box and got the larger two solar panels and that was on me, but they met us halfway on the difference the price. So, >> yes, that was really they didn't

have to do that. So, it was really appreciative. And then you can see we had some federal aid come in the spec. a little over 36,000 in the Sage 50,000 in sparsity aid which is state aid of just over 10,000 and then between Libby and Amy Herman they made some claims for the national school lunch program for just over 16,000 so that's basically what's going on any questions for Kyle about invoices or receipts um I'd like to take a minute and do some recognition of um some donations. There's there are quite a few of them. Um just want to give a general shout out to the support that we get as a district from our community. It's pretty incredible. Um so first we have a donation um from McDonald and Owen for $11,391.84 in wood

for the tech department to use. Um, we have several donations from youth sports. They donated um $1,498 for basketballs and $635 in general to athletics. $1,000 to powerlifting, $1,000 to volleyball, and $1,800 to youth softball and baseball. Um, so lots of you sports support. What a wonderful thing that is. Um Dave Doppkins donated $100 for Operation Health. Melody Schneider donated $100 for Operation Health. We had a couple of anonymous donations this month. There was one um anonymous donation for $500 to Operation Health and another anonymous donation of $500 toward negative lunch balances. We're working to cure those negative lunch balances. We also had um a donation. It doesn't specify um the church. >> No, they didn't want. >> Okay. >> Nope. They wanted to be anonymous. >> A church donated um this sounds like a

random number. It's not as random as it sounds. $853.80 toward a um a negative student lunch balance. >> So, we're really getting some help there. uh snows, which is all caps, uh that organization donated $500 to operation health and $550 toward negative lunch balances. >> That stands for snow neighbors of West Sweden. It's snow club. >> Thank you. >> Um St. Luke's Methodist donated $2,000 to Operation Helm and the Knights of Columbus uh donated $540.38 to special education. Um, so lots of donations and and our thanks, our sincere thanks for all of those. That's incredible to have such a list. >> Amazing. >> Yeah, really amazing. Um, we don't have any uh resignations or um new hires that we need to talk about. So, I would request a motion to approve the consent agenda. >>

Applause. I'll make I'll make a motion to approve the consent agenda. >> I'll second. All in favor? >> Any opposed? All right. Consent agenda is approved. We are on to our administrative reports. >> Do you want me to volunteer or do you want to volunteer? >> Go. I don't have very much. I feel like we just had a meeting. >> Um, >> it wasn't that long ago actually. >> No, because we had a break in there. >> Yeah. >> Um, so we had Chris Peterson in for Love and Logic. So much energy. Very excited. A lot of positive feedback from the staff from both buildings. Um, we had a community event the Thursday night before. There's about 35 people here. Um, and that was really great. He had an opportunity. There was attendance from every

all eight school districts that we shared it with. So, that was pretty impressive. Um, so it kind of makes me feel like, well, I wish I would have had more from >> just our area, just Frederick. But the reality is it was a good reach. So, >> um, he's had since a lot of will register for his virtual class. So, he's got a intro to parenting with love and logic that will be starting in January on Sundays and um a class that's more devoted to children with um significant trauma that's on Wednesdays. And so, those links are being pushed out and registrations are free for families. So, that's amazing. Um so, we can hit a bigger a bigger area with those. um with the hope that we'll have more face-toface interaction with the staff in

the summer. The staff will however continue at each inservice from here on out. Um he's got some of his intro to parenting lessons in a video version like a 30 40 minute video. And so we'll do that as a staff at each inservice as kind of an intro so that we stay up with the language. We keep having the conversations. Um keep talking about the impact and how we're doing things differently to support students in the classroom. Um I've started using some of that and been like that was easy. You know, sometimes you just say something just a little bit differently and it and it picks up. So um I think just to keep it regular, right? We're just talking all the time throughout the year and then of course this will go all through

the following school year. So, um yeah, I think we were talking earlier that the energy around it was great and I think we but just slow and steady, right? Sometimes you move slow to go fast. So, we'll just keep plugging along there. Uh 4K to first grade had a holiday concert on Thursday. Always very well attended for those ages. Um, absolutely adorable. Dan did a wonderful job. Lot of great compliments. So, I made sure to go and tell her because it's really hard to fill shoes right with in the district. So, she was nervous about it. We had some lighting issues and oh my gosh, it was kind of a scramble the day of, but a lot of really great positive feedback. So, I made sure to share that with her from parents and families.

So, it was pretty it was pretty great. And then, of course, Mr. Liy alluded to the second and third grade. Of course, that When there's a snow day, there's always a big thing and the students were really disappointed. But the show is some it's a dinosaur >> um play that's happening in the spring and they've already got the date set. So, we're good to go. >> Elizabeth, she reached out. >> Elizabeth Weiss did all the leg work. Our third grade teacher, Elizabeth Weiss. So, um I basically just signed my name. So, The children's theater is a neat place for kids to >> welcome but don't feel like you have to. >> We are exciting. >> Yeah. >> No, really, >> not really. >> Thank you very much for coming. >> Thank you. >> Thanks, Emily.

And then I think the the only thing that's coming up now over break is admin teams getting together to, you know, you start ripping into scheduling for next year, right? You got to start doing that. January is usually go time. So that's it. That's what we're doing. >> Just January is go time. >> Listen, I'm just kidding. >> The year that doesn't sound right. >> The year that we actually have the schedule done in January. Well, that would be a first for me. This is the year. >> He's the difference. >> Are there as many post-it notes in elementary scheduling as there were in high school? >> Um, that was me colorcoded all over the wall. There are more efficient systems with magnets. Okay, >> just so you know. Yeah, >> just checking. >> Yeah,

it's a big deal. >> This is work that I actually really enjoy and I know that you would geek out over it. So, I know you can appreciate 100%. have four meetings today about scheduling my life. >> I love it. >> It turns into what's the conflict that we can live with. >> Yeah. You never can just get perfect. >> Right. >> It's good model for life. >> Any other questions for Aaron? All right. Okay. Yeah. Um the middle school and high school winter concert uh was Monday. Um and I attended that and it it was great. It was just uh just watching Paulson lead their their groups was was really impressive. Um and they sounded really good. I was really really happy. It was really well attended. The room was packed. Middle school crowd

was really school was also really big. Um, so it was really exciting, really good night overall. Um, so first thing is that some kind of out of order date wise, but let's put it in the order. I did uh semester schedule, we've been doing a lot of work on that, Miss Scott and Mr. Lio say we but those two have really been hammering out a lot of the leg work on the next year schedule and you don't really realize how all the pieces fit together as going from teacher to principal. man's just uh something I'm getting better at wrapping my head around. Um but they're really good at seeing things I don't see and that's just it's an interesting process. Um so that that schedule semester schedule semester proposals on the the board today, but

that works going through and it's been really fun to see throwing out an idea and then refining it and then like going through like you see Mr. 12 copies of of the thing and to me they all look the same but they're very different on his side. He's like just thought it's it's really it's a really cool process. Um so there's a lot of effort going in there. Um we had to practice ACT today for the juniors that was reschedled due to the snow day. Um but that seemed to go pretty well or we're scoring that today. So that was going pretty good. Um high school honor choir happened on December 1st. I'm going backwards but I was at Unity on top with M. and she said that that went really well. Um had we

had nine that nine that went to work with Michael Ukes. I'm not quite sure who that is, but a director higher level somewhere. Um 11 students overall uh performed um and our choir performed at this honor choir, but apparently they don't always all perform individually. They perform in groups. Um and she said they did a really great job. And we even had a basketball game there that night as well. So, we had a basketball player who was doing double duty, Jude loves loves basketball and uh gave up his basketball tie for some which was really impressive to to do. Um middle schools completing their midyear as an web testing. We'll use that to bring new groups for tier two, tier three. school. We got some data talks scheduled in January um on January 2nd at

our in service and then our trimester one awards that that the assembly went really well. The student council did a really good job holding it, taking some ownership on it. Um and it was just fun. We had a honor AB uh attendance and behavior awards and um I think it was a pretty good time overall. Any questions for Marcus that's great thing to celebrate. Um you can see Jada's update on the um on that sheet in your extras. So Mr. >> Oh um had a snow day last week Wednesday and that wasn't the easiest all the world because of the timing of it, but it was all right. Um, we have some built-in days in the calendar just like next year, too. So, we're okay early like this because I guess winter's here. And special

funding was told be at 42% statewide, but they also capped it with legislators did. So, we'll see how much it actually turns out to be. The legislators are afraid that school districts will overidentify students. for special ed, but if they knew how hard it was to find special ed staff and everything else, it's not logical. But we'll see how she lines out. That's the hard thing with the budget because those numbers won't be final until spring. So, it'll be nine months into the school year and you finally get your final number. But yeah, and and they have uh some funds in Madison they could release if they wanted to. I don't know if they will, but we're all calling and talking to them about it. So, because they're going to say 42% will be vot.

>> Yeah. The 29th of December, you'll see some fun. Those two and Emily study and J are going to sit down in the room and work on the schedule. >> Highly functional. >> Highly delegated to get coffee. Fantastic. >> Yeah, I'm getting I will get breakfast for this. >> So that's good. >> You know what? >> I was told I had to. That's >> all right. Any questions for Kyle? All right, we're on to our board member reports and governance. I don't we didn't have any committee meetings this time. >> Um so really our discussion the first piece is just the um state convention coming up in January and just wanting to take a minute and think about the um just sort of the travel arrangements for that. I think Kyle had sent out in

his email there is a dinner event hosted by our insurance company on Tuesday. >> That's at six o'clock Tuesday. So, we need to get a count of who might be in town for that. I will say it's a great event if anyone can make it. So, I don't know if you guys have thoughts on like I think the April is not able to attend the education convention, but I think the rest of us are so I don't know people's thoughts on when they can depart here to head down there Tuesday, Wednesday. What that looks like? I wouldn't be able to leave on a Tuesday like I either Tuesday night but I would have to work so I wouldn't have to work. >> And last year you guys brought the school van. >> Yeah, we picked

up the school that I think I think we did. We leave here 4:30 or so. >> I mean if that were you going Tuesday? >> I was going Tuesday. Yeah. >> Can I go? >> Absolutely Tuesday >> because then I go down to my weekend. >> You want to go with us or with them? >> Either ride doesn't matter. >> Well, who's the if you could make the dinner? I would make the dinner. You're welcome to ride with us. >> Yeah, I can go you guys. Tuesday evening. >> Are you okay? >> Yeah. Yeah, I'll get to drive. >> I think >> you almost I just told her I said as soon as we get to like the city where we're going to have like a lot of lights. I'm like I don't I'm fine

driving at night as long as but as soon as like you get all the city lights then I get like a little glare and >> my >> luckily the hotel isn't super far. >> No, it actually after one I was like oh that was I could have done that. But I made it really tight when we were getting into the >> on the parking ramp. >> Like, are you supposed to back up here? I was like, I don't know. >> It was like 40. >> It was really super cold in January. It's a hot spot. >> Right off the lake. >> Yeah. >> And we're at a different hotel this year. >> Okay. >> I'll make sure Jessica gets all the information. >> That's right. It's like a couple blocks away. >> Yeah. She's trying

to This is another one, but she has any luck yet. >> Okay, sounds like a good All right, thank you everybody. And then um we do have an election coming up in April 2026. We have one seat up for reelection. Um that is Emily's seat. So there's paperwork that I think you have that you'll >> take care of. Emily is going to seat again. So like that. That's great news. >> Yeah. Um and then there are other deadlines. All candidate paperwork has to be turned in by January 6th at 5:00 p.m. So for others that might be interested in seeking a seat on the board. That's the that's the timing. There's specific paperwork that goes along with that. All of that information is available on on the internet about how to run for a school

board if you're interested. All right, we are on to our action items. The first action item is the consideration and possible action regarding the 2627 district calendar. How are we to 2026 2027? >> 26. >> I'm not real sure. >> 26 27 >> Yeah, 26 27. That's just not >> Oh, I'm just saying >> we have problems. I thought there was a mistake with the problem with it being 2027 already. >> It just hurts my brain a little bit to be >> It does. That seems really far away, but here we are. So, um I don't know if there are any if people have had a chance to look at the calendar. If there is there anything that you want to point out to us that you think is special or different or wonderful about

this? >> We're well, we're changing the parent teacher conferences to one time per fall and in February. It's we have students here until 12 12 or 12:30ish 12:30 release and then parent teach from 1 to 7 and then service the next day. So a family could come do parent teach at 1:00 and then get a long weekend with their family if they wanted to and the staff stays late that night but the next day they have in service day. So it's not like they get ready for kids again. If you don't like it and it doesn't work for graduation on Friday, May 28th was the beginning of the weekend. We thought that was a good time to have it with the last day of school. >> Did we check track? >> Yes, we did. We

checked track >> that was the Right. >> So it's not >> No, it's >> you mean? >> No earlier. >> I think it's the weekend before. >> I think they pushed everything. >> Yeah, we checked that out. >> The W does have a threeear calendar. So that's the >> So you think 26 27 that's year two in their calendar. They have 27 28 already. >> I not going to think about it but I'm happy that they do so we can double check. >> But I do know that we looked into that. >> Yeah. >> And not that it's calendar related but then for the teachers contract we will still do the two floating days before the school year starts. with the principal and scheduling it, one with them justing the rooms and on their own

time. >> That worked out pretty >> I think too. >> Oh, wait. Regionals and 27 and state. It's like >> and then June 4th and 5th this date. >> Yeah. So that's that's Sorryish. >> Oh, wait. I see you. Oh, you can always have a party early if you think your kids are going to make you think about graduation, graduation party and state cross state track. Yeah, >> it just Yeah, it means that if you don't want your graduation party to be on the Memorial Day weekend and you have a kid in track, then you're to mid because >> did you say they moved to the weekend? >> No. >> This year it was on a Saturday. That's why we couldn't >> It was on a Friday, but we were trying to move graduation. gradu

it was on a weekend. >> It's because graduation this if we would have kept it I'm I'm looking at these dates. So this year um graduation if we would have kept it consistent with the last few years it would have been on May 15th which is two weeks before the end of the year. >> So then we are looking at moving it to the 20 or it is on the 22nd. So then I think we had discussed doing on the 29th, right? But then that is sectional track again this year because that was sectional track last year. So then it moved to the 22 weeks before graduation. >> So now next year the calendar falls this year's calendar felt really weird. >> This year I mean >> well we have >> because the 15th was

way too early. >> Yeah. >> Well Christmas Some schools aren't going next week at all. Others I think is off next week. >> Maybe >> we're getting two days in. So it's all >> Yeah. It's hard. >> Every holiday and labor or Memorial Day is so early this year because of Right. >> Yeah. Because next year 27 it's as late as it can be. >> Yes. >> Yeah. And Easter fluctuates. >> It's difficult to have seniors leave so early. >> It would only be two weeks, which they're already two weeks this year. This year would have been three weeks. Try not to have it be three weeks. You're saying do graduation on the 21st instead of the 28th. Is that what you're >> Yeah. I mean, I don't know. Personally, I like >> you lose

everyone else is the hard part. >> We're so small that we have so many multi-age classes. So, all of a sudden, >> seniors are gone, but you still have the rest of them in your class, >> right? >> I'm just saying it's still putting it on the 21st or 22nd would still put it two weeks, which is two weeks this year. If we would have kept it the same week this year, it would have been three weeks. So we moved it back to two weeks. >> So you're you're still on the same time frame, but I mean that's okay. It's a group decision. >> I mean I Yeah, I see what you're saying. We're okay with the twoe difference this year. So could we be okay with the twoe difference next year and that gets

us away from the holiday weekend for families for their for graduation? I I don't know if people like graduation on a holiday weekend or not. I don't know how people >> I think it depends on if you have family coming in from out of town. >> Yeah. >> If you have family coming in from out of town, it's convenient. >> Yeah. >> To have that long weekend. >> True. >> Yeah. I think I mean my view is if if if you guys as an admin team feel like that having the seniors here longer so that it's less disruptive once they're gone. I that makes sense to me especially and I don't know if if when we in a semester schedule will that be any different? >> No >> because we'll still have classes blended with

grades. Can I get a motion to approve that calendar? >> I'll make to approve the 267 calendar. >> All in favor? >> Any opposed? >> Did you want to >> I don't know. I mean, I'm not a fan. I don't know that I want to oppose it, but I just doesn't really matter, I guess. >> Which way do you want me to write that down? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> Um, all right. We are on to consideration and possible action regarding switching from trimesters to semesters for the 26 27 school year. >> Mark um education we met and talked about pros and cons of trimesters to semesters. Um discussion led us to semesters being more aligned with um postary tends to do schools are doing two semesters to Um, >> I really

appreciate the work that the committee did on this and and putting it together in this proposal. Kind of taking the work that you guys all did and the discussions that you had and putting it together in this type of document for review is incredibly helpful for me since I wasn't part of the committee discussion. I feel like I I feel like I was because it's right there in front of me, which I really appreciate. So, I want to say thank you to everyone that worked on this um huge this proposal, >> both how it's put together and just what it is. I think this is a great change for our our district. I think it was I think the trimester made sense when they made sense and I think now we're in a different world

and I like that we're having that conversation and recognizing that and saying, "Okay, today is different than when that decision was made and there are different reasons." >> Um I I think that's I think that's excellent. >> The next step then will be for the educational committee to meet with Marcus and Ellie and myself and discuss um each department because right now the way the students have requirements in each department, we want to relook at that. Um we may be a little heavy in some areas and a little light in others. So we want to take a look at that in the overall schedule help too when you see that because in middle school we're making sure they get a taste of every exploratory during those three years. So >> yeah but that's then we

can do this without that but I just I'll let you know that's coming up. >> We're going to keep working. So >> can I just ask what it will look like? I mean right now with the college classes if you take one it goes over two trimesters one period over two trimesters. How will that look period day? for that >> like >> Yeah. So, in order like for credit wise or whatever, you know, there's like a block here and a block here. That's one class. So, I was just curious because I was thinking about this the other day. I'm like, does that mean that in order for the one credit two periods a day for each class. >> We will look at >> just I mean just something I was thinking about. So >> we'll

look at the time conraints for each of those. >> I mean I don't know that it necessarily needs it but then I'm like then you also run into like there was like kind of like you can only get so many credits a year. that we've got the we've got 45 minute blocks for high school 45 minute blocks >> and ideally those college courses will line up with with um >> with the semester really well or they should yeah >> they'll be within you know whatever they need to be the courses that we have >> would have suggested And then of course they need a time issue more time. I don't think my math was like like mage what it was trimesters it's kind of weird some of them >> some of them have a weekly

as thing they're doing those all are okay percentage they want to get up the course >> and the collegees are right now after trers or under high school credit. >> Yeah. >> And so then for kids who have a high school transcript where some of their time was in trimesters and some of their time is in semesters, >> right? >> That it'll be it'll make sense or it like is there a way that that gets represented then on a transcript? Well, it's all it's all with credits, >> right? >> So, when you get done with it's rated then. So, as they >> Okay, >> the scale go from 28 to 27 and a half to 27 and then they'll stay at 27. But when it comes on your transcript, it doesn't say trimester. They don't

care if the colleges don't care if they do a semester trimester block that that's they just want to know did you get high school credit or not. I just know that like I know that um because of some of the ways that the trimester stuff doesn't match up. I know like on my daughter's transcript in a trimester where she was technically taking a class but didn't get a grade for that class, it looked like she wasn't in the class. So, she had a trimester where it looked on her transcript >> like she was only taking two classes, >> even though she technically was taking more than that. And it looked weird. And we found a way to kind of deal with it. I guess >> I think it's a little bit different now like in

the scheduling, but I think that like what I was saying is like right now there's like half a credit for try one and a half a credit for try two, but it was for one college class and it aligns with the waiting scale. Okay. >> I guess my question is is then at a certain point in time like if you were to do that or you know there's there's there's you know the credits and then I'm like you can only credits a year. And so I just I was kind of just curious about >> it'll be an eight hour day. So you can get >> eight credits in a year if you didn't take a study off. >> Right. >> No, I Yeah. >> Yeah. >> And that's why we reduced it from 28 to

right because we wanted a typical student would go seven and one. >> Yeah. So seven times the four years would be 28 credits. And that allowed a student to have one or two bumps too. You know, miss a class. They'll fail once or twice and then still make it up by the end. >> You know what? The student who fails have to take eight periods too often because they struggled with seven. Yeah. >> And there's almost summer school. No, it's making I just It's fine. It's a conversation I'll have separate. >> Okay. All right. Any other questions about the proposed change? If not, um I'll make a motion to accept that proposal. I'll second. All in favor? >> Any oppos? Excellent work. Thank you again. I That's a lot of It's a lot of work

and a lot of things to think through and there's a lot of moving pieces. >> Um so I really appreciate and I think it's going to be a great change for our students and our staff. Um cleans up a few things even though it'll make things muddy a little bit initially maybe, but hopefully it'll >> The first transition we had we had to uh rate Yeah, >> understood. >> Yeah, >> I guess that is really where my question comes in because right now >> you're capped at nine credits a year. So, we were looking at coming into this Not really this trimester, but like I said, it's more of a personal thing right now that we're working. It's like technically like right now my daughter's on time in her schedule for it. But like she

doesn't start classes till the end of January, which is >> and but her schedule like only allow her to take nine credits this year. She can't tap over. So like >> because she has the requirements, she could she's she's going to have an empty schedule the end of trimester three, right? This year. And so my question is like next year like if you were going to continue that waiting, but how can you change the waiting for a class like the weight the the classes have continuously changed weight throughout her high school? You know what I mean? And I'm kind of watching this and I'm like >> that do you know? So there there's been a lot of changes and like some of it is can >> like a weighted class has to be the same

for the class of 26 all the way through. >> Well, because one of the changes this year that was frustrating to me and and it's fine like I'm I'm okay with it, but like the AP classes you had the option to take the or you know took the S test, but you got the you got the weighted credit regardless of passing the test. Now this year the agreement was you have to the test with a three or higher to keep the weighted grade. >> So, it's okay. But then my question is, if a student took an AP class as a freshman or sophomore, say that, and now they're juniors, >> is that same thing in play for any weighted classes they took as a junior. Everyone in that, you know what I mean? Let's just

take a senior class, class 2026. Any kid who took any of those AP classes, whether it was sophomore, junior, senior year, they should all be weighted at the same scale. You had to pass the test to get the weight on it. >> Especially if you can't takes it as a sophomore and kid B takes as a senior, the rules change. >> Yes, that's where I'm talking. So, the rules have changed a little bit, >> right? They just say, "Hey, >> some other things that change." So, I guess that's what I'm wondering, too. Like if a kid didn't take a college class this year, but they take one next year, is their waiting going to be different than a kid who took one this year? Do you know? So those are that I want to just

I think we need to make sure that there's consistency. So when we're calculating, >> you know, that GPA, >> it's not so much a trimester semester question, it's more of a weighted question. >> Yes. Matter though because we're going to have a tight class with a validatorial race. >> Yeah. and and weighted classes changed so much or four years is what you're saying. >> And I think even there was, you know, um >> I know a couple parents in the senior current senior class that had reached out with some questions to and I was like I didn't totally understand it because >> I wasn't involved with it at that point in time. But now it was it became a little more clear to me this year. And so I just I I was thinking the

same thing like yeah just making sure that what grade it is that as as as we transition for how the classes are taken, how they're chosen to be weighted, that there's consistency at least for a group. Like if all the seniors we all 27 this way and all the 28, it's fine. Yep. But we just need to make sure that in their four years of high school that all of them had the same opportunity that there's not >> when they took the same class. So then we're going to look at waiting committee as well. >> So I I guess that just you know >> herself she did herself. It's an important one to have and I'm glad you're raising this question because I I think it I think it it certainly matters. It certainly matters

for kids >> and we want all of them to get that the credit for the work they're doing. And we want them to get the same credit, >> the same credit consistency for class of 26, class 27, class 28. As long as all the 28s are the same, all the 27s are the same. Even if a junior and senior in the same class and it's weighing different for you than the other one, but as long as it's same for everyone in my career group. >> Yeah. So that the kids that you're going to be ranked with ranked with that that >> we all can't be ranked differently. >> Yeah. >> Because Yeah. Yeah, >> the whole so as long as long as it's by graduation year, I think that that's okay. But just consistency across

the board, I guess, is where my >> but also figuring out what it looks like depending on what year they took a given course because rule changes. It's not just consistency within the senior class. It's >> No, no, it's >> it's it's when they took each class within their high school career >> and what were and how that changes >> and how that changes. But but I think that's what you need to do like almost like tear apart some transcripts and tear apart some grades to make sure that there's just consistency since >> since there has been changes and and once again change is good. It's it's it's good to have that but just making sure that it doesn't >> you know I mean that that well and just that every student has the same

opportunity. >> You know what I mean? Or um measure the same >> that measure the same. Absolutely. Exactly. So, like >> if I don't take an AP class until my senior year, you know what I mean? That that that would still have the same >> You don't want to be a disadvantage or an advantage based on what school year you took it. >> Yeah, I guess that's where I'm the >> I think that makes good sense. And we we want to be able to make these changes overall like this this switch from trimesters to semesters. I think we're all aligned that this is a good thing. And in the process, we don't want to hurt students inadvertently by that decision. >> Yeah, that's that's important. >> I'm glad you I'm glad you >> the most

various students aware of what changes you made each year. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> You have the grandfather things, >> right? >> I see a totally different tast. >> You think it's muddy? >> Um >> we can talk. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> It's kind of how the credit is offered. I guess is what I'm thinking and making sure that like the value of the class also is the same because like if you like right now an AP class is over the like you get half a credit each trimester. Do you know what I mean? So if we take it in a in a seme if we're taking on a semester and it's one year is it just one credit half and half right? >> Do you know what I mean? So like so then

the same thing now it's waiting on your transcript different because instead of three halves you're getting two halves. So, so there's a lot of there's things like that that I think that need to be >> that's the difference >> considered looked at um and you know just as we move to make sure that kids you know same thing a kid taking it this year doesn't have an advantage just because they took it this year over a kid next year you know and that and that could be I mean I don't maybe there's freshman taking AP classes but my guess is maybe once in a while sophomore but typically juniors and seniors is what you're looking at so that's what I kind of figured that's good Sorry. >> That's good. >> All right. Any other pieces

of that topic before we move to the next one? >> All right. Thank you. That's great discussion. Um All right. So, our next um discussion, possible action regarding the um community survey followup. Um so, Kyle and I were talking about this in preparing, you know, we had our presentation term school perceptions on our last meeting with some of the survey results. Um I think that that we talked a little bit about, you know, that night I think Darren mentioned, you know, having some groups that kind of do a a little bit of a separate meeting to really dig into those results because it's sort of hard to do and you kind of need some time to think through the results and what they mean. the key to the survey. I mean, doing the survey was

important and helpful and I think we got good information, but the real important part of it is what we do with the information that the survey provided. >> Um, so we were just really talking about that. We kind of went through a few different options and I just wanted I think we just wanted to throw options out to you guys and see what you think. We one we sort of at first we kind of talked about a committee. Well, because there's so much information there all night and then we talked about committee, but then >> but then we talked about a committee of the whole and including the admin team maybe having a committee of the whole meeting because it sort of felt like something that we didn't want just a couple of board members

to be part of discussing in depth. >> I and I'm real open to ideas and options and thoughts. I don't want to just unnecessarily add meetings to people's calendars. Um, there's obviously, you know, there's always a lot going on, but I'm we're just sort of curious what people think so that we can get information, think about that data. Kyle has the tool so we can I mean, I'm a little bit of a geek with it. Like, we can now show us the data if you take these people out and put these people in and what does it look like when the information is just coming from parent responses or non-parent responses and how does that change and does any of that impact what we think we should do moving forward? And then be able to

some decisions about what to do moving forward because of the data that came to us through the survey. Um, so I don't I'm not sure what you guys think is the better way to go. Again, I'm aware of not wanting to just pile on meetings for people. Um, but I also it also felt sort of wrong to say, "Oh, we're just going to take a couple of board members and have them dig into that >> because it it does sort of feel more like a committee of the whole type of topic." >> Do we have a timeline? >> That's a great question. >> We don't have a timeline. >> Um, I think we should go to community survey every couple years, but don't go to survey if you're not going to do something with it.

So, >> so we don't have to like jump on it tomorrow, but we've got to keep it going. I know. >> So is it like during the progress of this year do we need to have it like February for example? >> Yeah. Right. Like February, March, April would be good to work on it because I look at January. We come back, the students come back on the staff on the second, the kids on the 5th, our board meeting on the 14th, and then >> five of us are going to convention the next week. Okay. Well, but we gota we can't like we got to keep it. And and I don't want to look at the data and say, "Okay, those are the three things I decide we're going to charge and go." It's all of

us, you know. >> Yeah. I personally to me January felt too there's already so much happening in January and the convention is a really is a a big >> a big chunk >> time time commitment. Um so I kind of thought February or March made more sense in my mind. >> Um and obviously I mean we all have the the initial report. Um and that would give time for people between now and then to kind of think about okay if we want to come and talk through, you know, not only the data that was provided in the initial report, but are there other data points we want either ready to go for that discussion or Kyle can bring his fun little tool >> pull it up and show >> and I think what'll happen is

we'll start with the what we were given and then we may go down a couple rabbit holes and back off of them and then >> when we're setting our board goals for the upcoming year, you focus in district goals, you say, "Okay, well there's the survey, there's the data, here we go." It's going to get us more focused. I wonder if this is like a two-part or multiple but two part just thinking like okay >> bring the questions pull the data set in itself is tedious and you know >> and collect all the information and then like what the goals and then the what do we do with this information that we collect what is feasible on administrative level like >> where you already have your focus and what additional focus you want to have

if it's different than what's in the survey just organizing it that way. So we know and maybe you did envision like maybe the whole being over multiples or if you envisioned it as one long kind of like workshop. >> We really didn't >> okay >> get that specific with it. I think I I I agree with you. I think I mean I think scheduling it as a as a two-part thing sort of first crawling into data asking ourselves questions looking at different ways to think about what information was there and then the next part coming back and saying okay now we we know what we know here's a summary of what we think we know and then making some decisions about you know what does that tell us in terms of any actions we should

be taking and and we want the admin team a part of this just like when we set our and district goals like I think my vision is you know that same I think we do we work really well when that when everyone is is involved um I don't know do you guys have thoughts on >> my initial reaction was February simply because we get to the end of March and we're nose deep in the state >> test >> could we do like these These would more than likely these would be not part of our regular board meeting. >> So it' be two extra meetings. >> Um one like one special meeting sometime in February and then one the very maybe early part of March to get it done before. The other good part about that

is I was thinking is because if you you know if we have ideas and initiatives that affect how we schedule how we build routines, we're going to want to know that stuff early. >> So then we have time to prepare what that's going to look like or what do we have to do over the summer to prepare for >> well and there was some lowhanging fruit that was easy. So we looked this auntie said oh yeah that's you know but yeah we got to get there. I just know that sometimes, you know, we we're like, man, I wish I would have known that back then because I would have changed X, Y, and Z. >> Well, I'm thinking like the flex days the staff have in the summertime. Correct. If we work on FE March,

>> then we get our marching orders for summertime what we want them focusing on. >> So, it sounds like I mean it sounds like people are feeling like the committee of the whole idea is better than a than a separate smaller committee. >> I I think so. I mean two two of us, >> you know, doesn't and and then what right spend all this time during the what we learned, right? >> Um so it just does just make sense that everyone is is >> going through the process at the same time. >> Um and and I also don't know if just two board members are going to come with all the questions that everyone else have to represent the questions of the administration, represent questions of >> all the areas. So I it only makes

sense to me that this is a a group effort. >> I always appreciate hearing the discussion because it just gives me a better direction. >> Well, I think like it's important to hear the same thing like what you guys have spinning in your minds and like what your plans are too to >> absolutely >> everybody to bounce back and forth too because >> bumps and barriers because >> yeah once again like you're living it on the daily life and so we can say all sorts of things. I was like, well, >> you have a pretty good idea of how that goes. >> Yeah. Well, and if we stick with that, um, you know, if we kind of try to look at a February, March timeline because then also we have our staff survey that we're

going to be doing in the spring as well. We haven't we haven't finalized the dates for that, but there will be a staff survey coming in the spring as well. So, it' be great to get our thoughts pulled together on this one before we add that one >> to it. Is there a day of the week that you feel would be I mean is it better to stick with Wednesdays or um you definitely don't have sports. >> We don't have sports. >> Yeah. I scheduling wise I I'm real open to the conversation on that because I probably schedule folks not having to >> Yeah. Wednesday is never falling game. >> Yeah. in the first week of February the 4th is a Wednesday and Thursday the 5th currently there's no basketball games that night I don't

know about wrestling or hockey currently because >> usually Wednesday of February there will be a game right yeah >> right >> is is February 4th Okay. >> That works for me. >> So 5:' or stick with five. Does that plan on a two hour? Do we want to put any kind of limit on ourselves or >> I go till it's bedtime? >> Like >> I've attended an outline of those. >> This is >> you were there. You dropped >> I believe one was 10% done. Remember that one? >> I do remember that. >> You can't not run because >> Yeah, that's right. We'll talk about that after the election. >> In my mind, I I'm certainly fine if we say, "Hey, let's try to not be here all night." I don't like setting time limits

only because if the discussion is good and productive, I want it to continue to be able to continue instead of too late. Yeah. But but we can we can certainly be aware of that and try to not like make it >> five o'clock start but no >> no >> hard. Yeah. >> Okay. Thank you. So that is the fourth. >> My bedtime's 8:00. >> Do we want to look at the March date as well while we're at it or or wait and do it on that night on the 4th? >> Let's do it on that night. >> Okay. >> Schedules will take better shape by All right. Thank you everybody. So, so there's not really we're not we just scheduled something. We're not voting on action. Um so just from a minutes standpoint, we don't

have to there's no action we're taking. We just are scheduling >> was the creation of the committee as a whole. committee of the whole that could be the motion you want motion. >> Well, sure. >> Yeah, if you want to make a motion to create the committee of the whole that can exist otherwise. >> Yeah, we can do that. >> I'll make that motion. >> I'll second. >> Okay. All in favor? >> All right. Excellent. >> And I'll I will follow up with April so she's up to speed on our conversation and knows what we're what we're up to. All right. So, go back to my list. Now, we are going to uh we're going to take a quick break and then um we have a close session tonight. >> So, take a five minute

break. This is
