001One Nation underground indivisible with liberty and justice for all the school board will commitment to Executive sessions tonight to consider these employment promotion compensation performance evaluation data of any Public Employee room to government [Music] statues 19.85 or in one currency to consider compensation and evaluation for support staff and certified staff Staffing persons 2020 to 23 24. High School adversity baseball coach JB softball coach and middle school girls basketball coach um we'll get our meeting tonight then we'll do presentation by our auditors thank you so uh my name is Riley Hunter I'm the in charge auditor on the district um and I'm going to start going through the audit but I'll start with the executive summary which is kind of a high level summary of the audit and should be found in the beginning few pages

002of your kind of interesting um I also I guess wanted to start saying thanks to Carl I know we work with Carl quite a bit and we really appreciate all of Carl's efforts during the audit because he's great delivery um so I'll start with the first page here please we start with the audit opinion um this is where we say we have a clean audit opinion on audit reports so all these financial statements We Believe by the material materially correct um and no issues with that so our second kind of opinion here is our opinion on internal controls um and any significant significant deficiencies in internal controls I'll start with the first two which are very common deficiencies and that is that we as Auditors prepare the financial statements um The District staff is not

003preparing those so it's a required significant finding but that's very common and something you see with many districts the second one is segregation of Duties and that's a similar finding where the district based on the district size it's unable to segregate duties but they do as much as possible so that's a another very common finding that we see and report in many district thoughts um the next few findings I wanted to go over were internal control over compliance and this is related to our single audit we did have a few findings related to the Child Nutrition cluster and State Transportation Aid and I guess interrupt me at any time if you have questions about any of those but again it's segregation of Duties due to reporting so future District size it's it's difficult to separate

004duties among the different programs and we did tests School nutrition General Tech Transportation which which was the first time we've audited that program I guess it's not unexpected too bad I'll move into the our kind of financial Trends next on the next page um so we highlight the general fund balance here there was a decrease in the general fund amounts of about 1.2 million um that's mostly due to changes in capital projects and improvements which I guess there's been many of them over the past year and a half so that that is expected um but the item to note on on this page is that the ending unassigned fund balance is about 5.1 million which represents um 44.49 percent of expenditures which is a very healthy fund balance and percent of the total expenditures I

005will move on to the next page which is our formal Communications to the board a lot of this is a standard language that can be communicated to the board annually kind of goes over accounting policies estimates financial statement disclosures the important thing to note on these next couple Pages was we didn't encounter any difficulties during the audit any mistakes statements were properly corrected and we didn't have any disagreements or anything along the lines of that um it was just right through to the end of the governance Communications until we get to page seven [Music] page seven uh gives gives you more detailed uh representation of the fund balance and how to change compared to 2021 you can see us that's where the unassignment fund balance decreased from 6.3 million to 5.1 and I think the

006major major thing to highlight in this area is in the capital projects fund the 5.8 million that was restricted for capital projects was all spent and that was related to um you know all the extra large Edition and Renovations over for the best um and as it is earlier this is where we um kind of highlight that general fund balance as a percentage of total expenditures we say that a healthy healthy percentage would be between 20 and 25 and the district was at 49 so that's well above what we expect that pretty much covers the executive summary I did want to touch on a few items within the financial statements so if you keep flipping through the executive summary um actually approach [Applause] . 00 yeah [Applause] so pitch 24th in the booklet highlights your

007debt um and this kind of an important disclosure just to see what what Dan is outstanding at this point and your margin for new debt if you were going to take out new debt um uh the sort of the legal margin for new debt here is there is room for 149 million dollars worth of debt obviously I would recommend taking out that much but that means you do have there is room um to take up debt um say flip to actually sorry I skipped the page the page before that page 23. highlights a summary of all your long-term debt that is outstanding and what's going to be due in the coming years so you can see uh what's due within the year um and that you have 22 million dollars worth of long-term debt outstanding

008in a lot of that is related to the capital so below that is the schedule of all of the years that the debt payments will become due and then you break it out for the next five years and then a few years 20 28 through 2019 if any questions I want to respond I just want to clarify the deficiencies you saw were not in reporting they were not in this management it was strictly separation of Duties so it's we can't I there can so the first two findings um I guess you can look at that page again the first two the preparation of the annual report in segregation of Duties those will pretty much always be there no matter what the next four can be corrected so these were more related to our single audit

009testing which is where we since the district had over 750 000 of federal expenditures we have to do additional single audit testing where we test specific programs related to Federal economy so you tested child Nutri the Child Nutrition cluster which is the food program um the first finding related to that is segregation of Duties but it could be fixed with additional oversight so for example if the food service director were to fill out his report that would be an area where Carl could review that report before it was submitted um and if that's being done regularly then that would be one that could be corrected and I know we've talked with Carl on that and I think we're we're in agreement that it can be fixed going forward hopefully and that is what we will

010be holding for next year and then the second one again verification of Freedom reduced price applications that's that's kind of getting more into our testing of of the Food Service program and I think that was more related to documentation that was kept for the food program so I guess there could be I think there were some areas where the documents either were hard to find related to that or they weren't properly um being submitted or attached so again that that could be um that one could be fixed going forward it's just a matter of keeping that documentation and making sure you've been following the food program guidelines correctly and there's a planning place to do that the next the last one was on the Transportation Aid and there was a new um so I think

011recently within the past year if the district has over 25 thousand dollars in transportation Aid it requires being audited so I think last year was the first year the district went over 25 000. so it was a first-year audit and I and we knew um what it needs to be done to you to have that reflex going forward to wait then when you calculate your recommended fund balance of 20 or 25 yeah does that take into account our finances higher because you can maintain a higher balance so we don't have to shortage or borrow yep it's 20 or 25 percent enough for us to to have and not short-term borrow um maybe Carl yeah I think when people hear you should only have 20 and 25 and you've got 44 percent of it you know

012they're wondering why are you keeping all that money like it'd be the January 15th payroll yeah I I I would say it's it's definitely healthy to be at 49 but I don't know if it every district is different right where you know I don't want to say that for for you specifically you need to be between 20 and 25 it could be um you know where you are I think is good and you have been spending that and you have been um I know there's a big transfer to long-term Capital Improvements um which is why the general fund Amazon's actually increased so you are restricting that for future uses um which I think is is kind of been meaning [Music] it's kind of a industry yeah a district okay [Applause] July and August money for

013this year our your enzymes June 30th so the money comes in in July and August or the second half of those payments so the 44 percent isn't there until it's accountable so the June 30th they can't take it the bank and say hey there's all that money center because some of the checks in this Valley don't come in until July in August right that's why I hear you're monthly reports from Carl I'll tell you how much you have a cash on fund 10. that's what you got to watch and this month will be much healthier than well December December is our lowest and then the January 15th payroll is the absolute lowest and then it rolls back in a way to get the checks in January card about 20th through the 25th through January 15th

014is our absolute lowest point of the year so the last um and I guess okay let's go to page 36 of the audit this this kind of um relates to what we were just talking about um which is the restricted fund balance so 1.5 million um got transferred I think from from General the general fund unassigned to long-term Capital Improvements so I think that that will be one of the biggest changes you see on this line here is um you know you have designated that for for long-term future Capital Improvements which is good to specify what you like um and then the last I think item I wanted to touch on here within the financial statements is the budget budget to actual which is on page 39. so I think this I just wanted to

015highlight this because I think it's a helpful tool to kind of um go over and look at from a border perspective as you can see I mean revenues were um more than expected expenses were under under budget so you you really I guess came out ahead there and I think it's it's you can look at the variance column to see see um what the different areas where that occurred but I highlight that but say it's a good good tool that I want to do with you looking forward [Applause] that was pretty much everything I wanted to touch on unless you had any other questions for me anything else you wanted me to clarify anybody have questions for thank you thank you um foreign [Applause] [Music] I received my undergraduate at uw-whitewater completed my master's degree

016in 2020 at UW Stevens Point I am married to my husband Aaron 20 years this year he is also alumnus of Sebastopol so we are proud pioneers um we have two children Elena who is in eighth grade and Reed who is in sixth grade and they're our third generation my dad went to school here so we're proud to carry it on so my titles I am family consumer Sciences teacher I'm also the Carl Perkins coordinator for the CTE programs here and then the career transition to coordinator and I'll give it until all right so welcome to family and consumer Sciences um at the acronym for it has changed many years I think back in 1994 it went from home economics to family and consumer Sciences it's been called face facts all sorts of things now

017it is known as FCS family and consumer sciences and they added the Sciences component to it because of the food science potential possibility to teach in schools as a science credit so it's a comprehensive body of skills research and knowledge helps make people or provide people to make informed decisions about their well-being relationships and resources to achieve the optimal quality of life it includes human development personal and family Finance housing and interior design food science Nutrition Wellness textiles and apparel and consumer issues it emphasizes on issues relevant to today's individuals and families and skills critical to be successful in the 21st century Global Society in family consumer Sciences we integrate types problem solving on a daily basis organizational skills and work Readiness in each area that we study so I have this really amazing functional

018classroom space as as a past student I was used to the 1970s classroom very functional it served us well but what a wonderful opportunity to have a complete gut and facelift to a new space I love the new space in that it doesn't necessarily scream that I teach Just Foods classes I have two distinct areas I have a kitchen in the back and then the classroom portion in the front and they don't they are not intermixed like the old classroom was so I love that because we can do our curriculum in the front and have our lessons without the distraction of the kitchen and when we're in the kitchen you know it's it's nice to have that separation so it's a really awesome space I'm very thankful to have it the kids um love it

019they take great pride in working in it they take great pride in the food that they prepare the cleanliness of it it's bright and clean and it's just really nice to teach it and it's great for the kids to learn it all right so here's my Motley Crew of course offerings and I'm going to briefly go through each of these tonight so you have a better understanding of all of the areas that I work in and I teach on a day-to-day basis I not only teach high school but I teach Middle School offerings as well so I start with the sixth grader to see every year I teach a seventh grade academic and career planning class as well as eighth grade academic and career planning I'll go into more details on these and then High

020School course offerings include child growth and development exploring health careers fundamental Foods one fundamental Foods two Global eating healthy living housing and interior design and then lastly living on your own and in one calendar year I could be teaching a majority of all of these so it just depends how the schedule goes so the first one we're going to start with the youngest first this is my sixth grade exploratory class I love this class I love getting these 11 and 12 year olds in my room so it is a year-long class I teach half of the sixth grade first semester and then the other half second semester it's just they get a little snippet of a little of what I teach in the high school level I really hone in with this group on the

021kitchen aspect because for many of these kids they have little to no kitchen experience and I really want them to be self-sufficient when they need to be and confident in the kitchen and being able to identify kitchen tools and know how to use them safely so we spend a good portion of time working on safety sanitation in the kitchen we talk kitchen Basics right now my sixth graders are learning how to read a recipe and they're it's challenging to read recipes and understand it because there's so many different words and cooking terms in it that they have to understand so we talk about all of those things measurements and equivalents we use a lot of math so it's really nice Miss Ricola and the stands when we prepare these kids with fractions and they have

022to reduce fractions and multiply fractions so we do a lot of kitchen math and Equipment equivalence kitchen tools we go through the kitchen and I have the students who name the tools and learn what the tools are used for and they have the same Tools in their kitchen to talk about those things abbreviations we go through and then a fun one here and a picture that shows kind of a group of students is um I teach a dining and general etiquette so these kids are not babies anymore and they're not grown-ups yet so but they're our young adults and I want them to behave like young adults in public so we do I do teach a general etiquette lesson and then dieting how we eat around a dining table how we eat in restaurants how

023we don't use our fingers to how to use utensils how to use utensils how to wait to start eating until everyone has their food how to pass food around so we go through General etiquette as well so here they in this picture they prepared spaghetti and meatballs for a meal and try to have appropriate conversation around the table child care and babysitting is another one so I teach a child development class in high school so the child care babysitting this is the perfect age to introduce this to because these kids are getting their first jobs as babysitters and so I want to teach them safe ways to care for children talk about appropriate food at different age levels to serve children we also talk about more serious topics like shaking baby syndrome and basic care

024for children and then of course that is always highlighted by their project their egg baby project where they care for an egg how a baby for an entire week and they definitely have some challenges with that to be caring for that one little thing so they know the importance of children this is a new offering we started offering this in 2021 and 2022 and at that time it was just the what which is now the current eighth grade took this class last year academic and career planning um and now we I teach both seventh grade and eighth grade academic and career planning I see the students for one day a week so they're on multiple rotations um two days I see the seventh grade classes and then three days I see the eighth grade classes

025so I see them once a week and we go over academic and career planning standards the careers that you see here are future seventh graders what they're aspiring to be this year so lots of wonderful ideas and not one of them is a professional athlete all right so the content that we cover seventh grade we just asked the question what is ACP why am I here that's usually what is what is this and what what does it mean to me I am um you know 12 13 years old why am I having to decide what I want to be when I grow up I am just so agree so we talk about the reasons for that um we talk about their goals where do they Envision themselves in their life we also introduced them to

026Zello which is our Online Career platform that we use here at Sebastopol it's kind of like Career Cruising you might be familiar with that um so this has been a really nice way to infuse that computer module program at the middle school level high schoolers don't love it but the middle school does so this is a great place to put it we talk about how high school horses have relevancy based on what they want to go to school for so if they want to go into Healthcare taking classes and math um and different types of areas might be a better use of their course choices while they're in high school so we talk about how that is a relationship to their careers talk about current time management many of these students are playing sports or

027in the play or doing forensics and all these things and they're juggling that school life balance so how do you manage your time how do you become a successful student so we talk about ways that we can manage our time things that we're doing maybe at home that are not a good use of our time so that we can be successful students we go over learning style assessments it's important that every student in my class knows that not everyone learns the same so we you know if someone doesn't understand something just be patient because maybe they need to learn in a different way so we talk about different post-secondary options we're currently talking about right now students are learning about all the different options after they leave high school and what the difference between a

028two-year college and a four-year College look like and based on the programs or based on the career that they're interested in so it's important for them to see that and understand they did complete a career lab book you're going to see some examples of that in the next slide but it's just a tangible research project for the career that they want to enter and then we'll look at colleges different kinds of colleges that specifically um specialize in our major and those two areas the eighth grade group we continue Zello throughout the year we are reading a book this year now this is all brand new this year for this group so we are reading seven habits to highly effective teams by Sean Colby you might be familiar with some habits to Highly Effective People by

029his dad Stephen we talk about 21st century skills and workplace Readiness skills what employers are Desiring and employees and then we since these students are turning 14 they are legally eligible to have a job so we talk about employment and what they need to know and what kind of forms to complete in order to be employed we talk we're going to be we will be going into how to fill out a job application start a resume started getting some of the things that you've done volunteered for start building a resume and then how to interview how to be able to answer questions and in this at this age I mean they could walk into any business in Door County and hired like that but it's important that they know some of these skills how to

030address and things like that even at this age so here are some of the students some of our future pioneers and things that they're aspiring to be we have a Financial Manager veterinarian surgeon computer engineer park ranger which worse did you know that operating nurse interior design just like Mama and we have another an elementary teacher right on man yeah bring yours I've already been used to looking for people outside now yeah seven habits highly teams like I said this is what I'm covering with my eighth graders right now each week we read a different part of it and we do activities to further kind of continue that conversation and um so just I want them to know how to handle their emotions how to be successful how to be good people of character how

031to care for others and then know where they're going and how they're going to get there so that's the other component of it if they're not comfortable and confident who they are it's going to be very difficult for them to achieve their goals so that's the whole point of this book and it's a really good one that's coming soon that was company son this is yeah this is Steven Stevenson yep all right now we're into high school okay so this one this is my fundamental Foods one class and it's highly taken by freshmen and sophomores this is one of the first classes Foods classes that students can take after Middle School it is a semester-long course it is a prerequisite for students to take fundamental Health Foods too we start from scratch in this class

032it is both literally at figuratively we learn the basics of the kitchen we cook at least once a week students learn the fundamentals of the kitchen while making decisions about what they eat uh some of these kids have seen some of this material back in sixth grade so how we move through it really kind of I feed off the students and what they're recalling from that sixth grade but you know it's a long time from being a Freshman or sophomore um that'll be some of the main units we get into are grains Breads and quick breads very introductory Dairy and eggs we make a lot of things with different it's not just one lab out of these we make a lot of different types of elements in there you can see Jaden up at the

033top he's got homemade pasta the girls at the bottom here we did a Nike Cuts lesson on using all the different types of knives what they're used for so they made Apple swans with those with their knives kind of practice some of those skills the next class we have is fundamental oh nope before that this is what happens in blind you to show it's not you see a picture sometimes I post on Facebook and it's all lovely but I should really post things like this because this is what happens sometimes sometimes we have to learn from our mistakes and fail forward so in this example the one group you can kind of see and it was fun at the time the one group they measured the baking soda incorrectly they put a tablespoon into instead

034of a teaspoon so again another learning moment that we have oftentimes is who's won it's okay to fail end result is when it's done correctly my favorite one of my favorite quotes is anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything all right fundamentals to the rigor gets a little bit more intense in this one I push them a little bit more on higher skill level they've already completed Foods once so now we do we tie in a lot more science in this one starting with our Canon preservation unit we learned a lot about different pH levels and acid alkaline how to Canon preserve food safely um stocks sauces and soups we're currently in that unit in Foods too right now so students make homemade stocks and then we use those stocks to

035make um and make our mother sauces the five mother sauces and then we use those stocks to prepare soups so it's kind of they get to see the whole progression of a lot of different things we will soon be going into baking and pastry arts you can kind of see in the top picture there that was a chocolate silk chocolate silk pie with a meringue topping they can do some more decorative cakes we have a cheeseburger cake down there so they really can be creative and have fun in that class and try some more higher higher Tech skills any um cheese making dairy product fermentation type of culture we have we haven't done the fermentation of cheese or dairy we did we do a dairy um Dairy brunette and we talk about cheese but we

036and we've watched videos of the whole process from like Bernard's as close to some really great videos and actually explore the door John Josh has created it where he goes inside of Renaissance cheese and they talk about the whole process of cheese making but we've never actually done the whole process ourselves in that regard I think it takes more longer than a 43 minute class to be able to do that so there are some things that I would love to do but in a 43 minute class security.com but yes we do do that in food smart class we talk about oh different things fun things sandwich salads fruits and vegetables meat poultry and we get into nutrition and our dietary influences and Foods too so foods to there in the kitchen it's pretty much from

037start to finish and we learn in between all right so can you pronounce that yeah over here and I put that word up on the board um it's right right it's charcuterie and uh I put another more in the students Pockets oh my God yeah they they had they kind of pronounced it but they knew what they were but they can't pronounce it so we had that we this is a new lesson okay so I'm talking when I bought Foods too we're bringing in a lot of relevant things new things that are I want to keep the content fresh and fun um and so there is a history to charcuterie and I'm going to educate you all tonight because you just never know when this Jeopardy question comes up but um it actually came from

03815th century France it comes from the French terms chair which means flesh and kuwitz which means cooked and back then they didn't have refrigeration so oftentimes the meats had to be cured somehow salted smoked dried and they would store those in a charcuterie which is like a deli and that's what it was called it's a charcuterie the charcuterie board they would actually it was a meat board and it was they used all of the parts the remaining parts of the animal and the organs and they cut them in smaller pieces and smoked and salted and all that and they spread that a lot of charcuterie board with some accompaniments so the students this week were busy at work they created a big project so they prepared something for you all right for everybody so now

039we gotta find this is for oh yeah Mr T they made you one nice for you on the back is the student that actually prepared it for you so cherry so this is a grazing box this is a grazing box so grazing box is different than the traditional charcuterie board because it's a little of this and a little of that it's just um it's got Sweet Treats it's got acidic notes it's got meat it's got cheese they've got chocolate chocolates of strawberries they made some Oreo balls because they just had to use a presentation everywhere [Music] thank you um so while we did this they they realized really quickly that this could be a really nice business to enter into um and so we talked about some of the entrepreneur entrepreneurial Spirit of how to

040do this of how to launch a business like this [Music] so I hope you guys enjoy a little uh treat from the students they had a lot of fun making this thank you yeah after influence one students can take Global leading it is a semester-long course they can be great well um they learn this one's a really fun class because we learn about the cultures all throughout the world and how their topography and religion and just different Customs affect the way people meet and it's really an eye-opening class for all the students to be in we make a lot of dishes from a lot of different regions you can see Lily here she's rolling up some sushi rolls this is a German um it's a apple German Apple it's true there you go and then

041this was our Christmas project this was a European booster Noel so we were cranking those out before the snow days before Christmas but each student brought home a bush did a while for their family which is a really and then these are like meringue mushrooms that they make and then they sugar cranberries so it's a really fun fun way for them to learn about other Christmases colors spent around the world but we go into United States and Canada we look back into our original Heritage in the United States Mexico we go to Latin America Caribbean Europe spent a lot of time in Europe Mediterranean in India cuisines all right here's child growth and development students in 10 through 12 can take this class it's a semester-long class I'm currently teaching it this semester students who

042take this class are not only interested in parenting and being a parent Sunday and caring for children but they also might be interested in a career that is working with children so we learn about a child from conception through their preschool years uh so many units include value of children genetics and reproduction pregnancy infants preschool we've talked about the areas of development within all of these age groups and how children develop in certain areas and the care that they need in order to develop at some of these younger ages and then of course the well-being of children as well oh and this picture here is of the babies so these are the real care babies they're computerized babies I think these are about a thousand dollar baby and they are robotic they the students will

043take them home on Thursday and bring them back on Monday they're microchips so they have a microchip in the chest and then the student has to wear a bracelet kind of like one you would get at the fair and it's strapped on with a microchip on their wrist and if the baby starts crying the student has to swipe the baby with the microchip bracelet and then try to figure out what's wrong with it so there's a bottle that comes with it that has a microchip on the bottle so either the baby's hungry and has to put it to the mouth of the baby and it'll be happy or if it has gas it needs to burp they would have to try burping it or rocking it or changing his diaper at the diapers have microchips

044in them as well so it's pretty wild but they have it for the whole whole weekend and it's you just they're unpredictable you just don't know what the babies are going to do it's a really great experience students who turn them back in so they're never having sex again looking at Ground classes for my juniors and seniors this is a fun class this is when I um was gearing up I just thought about like when I was their age when I was a senior what did I need to know when I went to college unfortunately my mom prepared me very well but I wanted to make sure that they knew all the little things that you forget about teaching so we first start off the semester talking about goals where you're going in like we

045ratified your plan and that it's kind of fun because five years later uh out of high school I'd like to mail those five-year plans to them to see if they're on track it's what their dream was um finding and maintaining a vehicle at home we work with Dan Petrina um our resident mechanic here and we talk about auto maintenance basic auto maintenance how to care for your vehicle what happens if something goes wrong what happens if you don't have data or Wi-Fi in your phone to learn how to change a tire so students will get to do that we talk about budgeting your home expenses we talk about basic food preparation and healthy eating on a budget they're at College because they don't have a lot of money but we don't want them eating Ramen

046and junk food throughout college so we talk about what are some healthy options that they can eat that's over cost a fortune clothing repair and maintenance I teach them how to do laundry how to read care labels how to respect certain Fabrics how not to wash silk in the washing machine things like that we do simple sewing in case the hemp falls on their pants or the button falls off and they can just be able to stitch that up so they learn five to five basic sewing stitches we do do a cross-curricular project with an Elementary classroom um so this year we partnered up with Miss groder's second graders you can see right here they drew up monsters on paper and then our students replica or took those Paper Monsters and created felt monsters out

047of them using five and five or six different stitches that I taught them and then we um it was like after about two to three weeks then we met up with the kids and then the high schoolers gave them their their monsters so a super fun project great practice for my high school kids to learn the stitches and it puts a smile on the face for the second prayers so super cool um what else we have here we have I teach students how to grill so we have a gorilla here how to grill safely we talk about different safety sanitation holding a fitted sheet everyone hates that one but if you can make that one and then one of the big projects is they create file organizers they're plastic containers and they have files in

048them where they can store all of their important documents when they leave home things bills and insurance papers and all the things are in there so they can take that with them when they leave here I did a fine job later too what's that they did a fine job of ironing too yeah yeah got a lot of practice yeah we got the iron of all their shirts so here's Dan um Dan took them outside he lined up like a school vehicles and he went through and they had a whole this scavenger hunt they had to go in their own vehicles and perform a lot of things to check their oil um all sorts of stuff so he's got them changing tires um changing their windshield wiper so a lot of really important things when I

049and I thought of this because when I was in school here we had Mr searson who taught driver's ed and I remember him taking us to the tech tech ed department and there was always a car there because they did an auto class and he taught us all these things as part of driver's ed so I just think that all students should not do these things and I'm not sure if the online driver set does that anymore they learned this thing so I try to include that this is a partnership with David Phillips and his business life Stills class so this is mock interviews all seniors take part in a mock interview we bring business Professionals in who are the other business owners or in HR department who interview candidates for employment and our seniors

050prepare and practice how to answer questions with Dave Phillips and then we Mentor them on how to dress for a job how to write a resume shaking hands questions to ask so that they feel a little bit more confident when they go into introduce themselves Healthy Living class so this class is we hear it all the time eat healthier a big obesity is on the rise organic natural we see all the labels on food so we talk about all of those so we can be overwhelming and confusing when you see something that's whole grain whole wheat Natural Healthy so we break this down and talk about what it means to be healthy we talk about our own nutritional needs we talk about food allergies we break down organic natural and conventional we talk about different

051farming methods as well diets and weight management understanding and adapting recipes to make them more lean we talk about lean hooking methods so really things that use low fat sauteing low budget eating and of course stress and Wellness yeah um exploring health careers this class is offered to sophomores through seniors a very rewarding class we have an opportunity where we can bring in 30 guest speakers into my classroom it would be incredibly difficult for me to teach on all the Healthcare careers that are out there and is so much more fulfilling and rewarding for the students when they have a guest speaker in that career that can talk to them about them so we have a wonderful partnership with Door County Medical Center and their staff in the Door County Emergency Services and they come

052in we have two guest speakers a week for the entire semester after we get through some things and they talk to the students about all the different careers within that area it's very rewarding very worthwhile we start the class with talking about the history of health care about Healthcare started we talk about Trends in healthcare what's currently happening and what's the future look like we talk about qualities that healthcare workers should have different opportunities in healthcare so this is where we really kind of when the guest speakers come in we break them down into these different categories so students kind of have can see the whole picture of well if I don't like blood I can go into other areas like research or health information we talk about ethical and legal roles and responsibilities of

053anyone who is in healthcare and confidential confidentiality we talk about technological advances and so we take field trips we've been to fell in the school of nursing we've got our Beltsville nursing we've gone to the hospital we go to the EMS station so the students have a really really fantastic opportunity and again here are all of our guest speakers that come in they bring things for the kids to work on they make it very Hands-On and engaging and that's why the partnership is so great all the other school districts have modeled this class and have integrated this class into their programming so I've been a part of all of those meetings with the other schools to mimic this class in all school districts so it's been a really awesome opportunity to kind of grow the

054workforce in the healthcare sector here are some success stories of this year we have two past exploring health career students we have Emily Glide she is currently a junior she graduated from she took the exploring health careers class then went to continue on into the youth apprenticeship program in the certified nursing assistant class she became certified as a nursing assistant this summer she's going to continue on with she's really interested in trauma and it was really awesome when the paramedics came in and the ER nurses came in to see that light bulb moment for her so that's cool for Emily she's gonna do great things and then we have City ideas another student she was unsure of what she wanted to be when she grew up she was in my class um she listened to

055all the guest speakers and when they when they listened to guest speakers they have to write a reflexive paper every single time from a two-page paper and the outlining thing in her paper always was how she really wanted to care for care for people and so she is now employed at the hospital and she works yeah she graduated early and she's worked she has a full-time job in the lab she starts tomorrow yeah that's awesome all right housing and interior design a very Hands-On class super fun we are learning about different housing and Designs right now we've just finished a historical exterior architecture Styles the students build models they all picked a historical home design and then built a 3D model I took this picture because of what was really awesome about this when they

056were planning how to build their house was she has a Pythagorean theorem right there she was a clients in algebra in order to calculate the room pitch and how the group was going so that was pretty cool I was like wondering but um that's a really awesome way to see see math in the class and there's a lot of math in this class so we will be talking about housing needs and options as well we go into some color schemes more interior design we talk about the elements and principles of design creating scale drawings how to read a ruler it's important and Design interior spaces we use an online program called room Styler which makes those really cool like almost seem like a picture was taken room and they can pull in like furniture from

057Pottery Barn and Ikea things like that to incorporate in their rooms so it's really fun another great quote tell me and I forget to teach me and I may remember involve me and I learn and that's the whole point of my program it's Hands-On I want kids to be able to use their hands and Learn by doing as much as possible all right so the future of FCS this is door number 19 it's full of possibilities when you open your mind you open new doors to possibilities for yourself and new opportunities to help others so there's a door in my room which was put there for a reason and the future of that is to hopefully be able to have a pizza patio out I want to be able to incorporate another cooking method and

058integrate it into my programs so I've been working with the past graduate of Sebastopol to create um a vision for this area in the front of the school so this is our existing site plan this is the front entrance to the high school like the gym here and then the area that I circled in red is right in front of my International door room window and this is a preliminary I just found this this morning so it's preliminary but to create a welcoming area this would be an outdoor classroom outdoor kitchen that can be used for many different things it's really awesome because it has outdoor grilling stations that are built in we have a pizza oven we have a green egg or like a charcoal type row so we have a lot of different

059ways we cook and the whole point is to be able a lot of students most 2020 had families were entertaining outside a lot and people really enjoy being outside so to be able to teach students another cooking method safely and to be able to know how to operate and use this kind of equipment and things that you could make in different types of cooking vessels is pretty awesome and then of course not only do I want them to know how to cook things but Grill things as well so you'll see a lot of planting options there's a lot of raised Planters here there there and then down so we have a lot of raised planter options so I would really like to do some co-curricular activities where we're growing things outside I know they'll grow

060things in the greenhouse but it'd be really nice for students to be able to plant things outside have summer school students be able to harvest the vegans and the keys and be able to make those things during summer school just make this whole front area really pretty and welcoming so the vision it extends the whole front of the school the vision for my area I would like to be Grant funded I think I can really tie into some environmental grants as well using prove is correct um doing some sort of rain water runoff doing a drainage ditch with rocks and things like that it's really kind of tied in especially with gardening as well so I'm not looking for necessarily funding from the school but mostly it's something that I'd like to do it so

061that's the idea of the goal in the future any questions [Applause] the heart-shaped cheese used cookie cutters that The Tech Guys Department the tech ed Department I couldn't find Cookie Cutters to put the cheese so they wouldn't leave these up on a 3D printer all right so that was kind of cool to have that resource I like the cross curriculum yeah and you get some small things I've been teaching this how do you personally keep up to the 21st century skills I said on TC's board and today with this we had our board meeting was in the technical business anyway and and of course I didn't understand anything but it really blew me away and you know they're talking about jobs I think 85 95 000 is an area of computer security and all that

062stuff and the the people who have people from major businesses in the Green Bay Area um Ki and all those people and now this conversations one of the jobs to talk about it pays off it's been working for somebody that's you know institution even though the technical skills it's like they're offering 365 schools so and these skills are always changing so how do you plug into notebook yeah the 21st century skills the soft skills communication it's communication is looking somebody in the eye as being able to communicate it's your disposition of how are you hold yourself it's showing up to work on time it's being accountable for your actions of course because some people don't do that so it's just it's just being a good person and being responsible for yourself the skills are taught

063at the college right those technical skills are taught for college but those 21st century skills are hard to find employees that's ironic because when we're going around the table these people from all these big companies talking about the job interview process that is exactly what they talked about because they assume you've got some of the skills technical skills to do the stuff there's those those skills we've just talked about and that's what they search for in the job interview process so we do a whole handshaking thing before the kids go into the gym shake their hands and if they have wet poodles they have to redo it it's one of the places if you don't walk in with a suit on you're not going to get a job you're coming like looking like a slob

064you're out okay I'm sorry very good good job okay um we have guest Commons net messages to review those yes uh don't get signed up to speak will be able to speak um you get three minutes to comment and we will um give you a notice about 30 seconds before your time is running out so um to speak in an open session you have Revel Sanchez foreign I had already shared my thoughts on the proposed classes increase for the next school year for that Early Education Program in a letter forum for some of you and I would just like to take a moment to summarize and first I would like to congratulate Sebastopol school for having such an incredible Early Education Program as a parent of a four-year-old child now five you want your kids

065safe loved and educated while in the school system all these aspects have been met even more I'm daily impressed by the enthusiasm my child looks forward to her school day and the impressive projects and knowledge share Jones homes each day this kind of amazing development in such a young kid is only possible due to the benefits of a small class the age group requires a lot of additional assistance which each small task at hand and smaller class sizes lead to less disruption more time for instruction and provides features ability to tailor instruction more individually making sure all kids develop into our educational work you have an excellent program with first-class staff today reserve it by low cost proposed class size increased from 11 to 22 plus is a great concern to it as a parent

066the quality of the education will suffer the neighboring schools have kept Gibraltar for 15 Sturgeon Bay about 13 14. they can do what we can do it there is a way I understand that the proposed change is due to the budget deficits I manage free businesses in Door County so I understand budgets I understand also that lowering the quality to justify bottom line is a very short-term fix and Gotta Have devastating long-term consequences increasing the class size could easily result in a lot of current students who are looking for the small class environment and we looked at every possibility opportunity to change this have we reached out have we reached out to our generous Community who has all heartedly supported this new addition and these programs have we reached out to state of Wisconsin for

067assistance have we looked at historical data and seen how these issues have been resolved before this can be the first time in the history of the school that this has happened um the bottom line should be and yes the kids and their education should come before dollars kids should always come first and I kindly ask you that all of you to consider all Alternatives before making this decision thank you that will affect the education the quality of Education that we of the kids we all care about Rebecca okay Swiss there's actually a street in um Zurich named after my family I do find this hard to follow up on all these great speakers I am a retired preschool teacher I thought I was done thinking about education and I find myself back here with some

068concerns as Gretel has expressed I have a granddaughter here currently in your 4K and I just want to give you a little brief summary of what a Corky teacher has to do that first two weeks of school it's just tremendous work this age group requires so much energy by the teacher and to plan lessons and Implement these precious children require and need one-on-one time with their teachers as much as possible this builds their confidence and the love of learning a small class size is ideal for this age group it is a critical time in a child's cognitive and physical development the four the four case first weeks of school and the teacher is basically guiding this child on self-care using the bathroom washing hands sitting at the table for lessons speaking kindly not hitting taking

069work off the shelf and placing work on the show sharing walking down the hallway getting in line for lunch carrying a tray putting on shoes boots coats snow pants and much more this is all important work and it is very time consuming even with a small classified two teachers and I understand there is a budget matter I I understand and I understand we have a responsibility to the taxpayer but I am hoping that you will find room in the budget to find and support your 4K and 5K small class size and your teachers enrollment fluctuates year by year and we all understand this and I'm hoping the school board waits for final enrollment numbers before making any decision of hiring a teacher firing staff is a short-term negative solution finding a qualified teacher especially in

070early learning is difficult 4K teachers and 5K teachers are a special group of people with tremendous energy compassion and love for these precious young children this investment pool has these teachers now this is a superb program here and I've got 15 years in preschool experience and this you draw more outstanding that I'm so excited that my granddaughter is here I'm going to get teary on because this really is everything even even when side is going all the way to Mission Center all the way to high school I I I'm so excited so I thank you very much for your time and I am now going back to being retired Richard O'Connor [Applause] hello my name is Brookdale Potter I Am the parent of the 4K student and identifying also the divorce that concern regarding the

071proposal to downsize the 14th University staff and being real prior student to teach with ratio elements my job is directly affected by this decision I'm deeply concerned that this will have a negative impact on my child's learning children benefit from individualized education as like Universal kind of eloquently laid out they benefit from a teacher being able to spend more time with them on the tough learning they benefit from having teachers that are actively engaged in their classrooms and not stressed overwhelmed and burnt out all of these things are at stake with a proposed plan to increase class sizes and downsize teaching staff I've heard from you that this is a question of fiscal responsibility to the district however I can't help but see this as a short-term solution creating a long-term problem if enrollment increases

072and we do not have the staff to manage the influence we are going to create a strained work environment for teachers this will trickle down to the students this will impact a quality of education and as I'm sure many of you are aware they are facing a nationwide labor shortage and how will we replace the necessary teaching staff from the NATO practices I respectively request that you reconsider this decision and consider it or carefully the teaching staff that we have here that I appreciate the timing to speak okay thank you for those three presenters we have two other people that wish to speak but they wish to speak under the agenda item um yes drivers for the bus driver appreciation work week this week is National bus driver appreciation week and we have a practice

073form this morning and thank you for all you do it's it's hard right by bus drivers we're thankful for recruiting out does anybody have and I don't know which remote because the consent agenda hearing Madness and consent agendas approved by consent with donations of two thousand dollars to your students education enrichment through dark common Community Foundation thousand dollars for the music department of discussion overall um Amy Johnson donates 250 dollars for the percussion overhaul behind your athletic booster club 200 for the percussion overhaul and Sebastopol man using guards and theater donates one thousand dollars to the user Department of profession overhaul and for student education and enrichment so thank you very much to those and agency we'll move to administrator reports to do with Mr kilts uh thank you just I'd like to bring everybody's

074attention uh this week was the bus driver recognition week last week was school counselors appreciation week and uh like to do a shout out to Mrs Retzloff this is Mount parkour all the work that they do in the school make sure everything is run the way to get into um also we recently had an author visit Baptiste Paul was his name um very engaging fellow and did a really nice job with our students it's nice to have him [Applause] any questions Mr Schaefer um well I have a few things but I think first of all today I had the tremendous opportunity probably one of the highlights of being a principal here but um I got to call down our two students who will Who were selected as our valedictorians today that was an incredible experience

075it was awesome to see their expression and their Joy the hard work that they put in and being recognized so that was a lot of fun it's okay if I say who there okay so Johanna Andre who's our valedictorian and Claire Haverly it's our other selection so two excellent candidates two great young people very well deserving um also a big shout out to Lindsey Shu who is the Miss Door County who will be representing uh Door County at uh Miss Wisconsin down in Oshkosh in June that was pretty awesome and the video seeing her win and the humility and class and integrity that she carried herself it was truly admirable and just something to be very proud of she'll represent us really well I know that um and my third and final thing we started

076doing something this month um we've started the the tickets are called the Pioneer Way tickets our Middle School and High School teachers have them they were designed by one of our students Henry Bly actually designed them they turned out really cool like a Pioneer feet behind the student named teacher name and I think what's really cool about these is the teachers when they have been acknowledging students and how are they acknowledging them they are looking at our pride model that we have with our poster and they're looking for students who exhibit the characteristics according to our pride model so I brought the small version here but this is our poster turned out really really sharp which highlights her Mission Vision and guiding principle as well as our pride values so sectors are identifying these students

077an example of something cool when they come down I had a student that came down and he's like because when they get the ticket they need to bring it down to the office and we have a basket for the middle dollars a basket for the high schoolers and we're going to have a drawing at our monthly assembly where students have an opportunity to be recognized as well for a prize every student that is recognized will get a certificate but what's really cool is when they give it to you and and like with some of the students I'll say well what is that what do you got he goes it's a Pioneer awaited Mr Schaefer and I'm like okay well what is it for and then when the students like well I got recognized I don't

078want I recognize for what read it to me and then they read it to you and they're hearing all these amazing things about themselves and then you ask them like the last student I did it too I was like well how did that make you feel the student looks at me and goes awesome and I high five of them and take the ticket and you know just a another step in building positive culture and going uh doesn't cost us any money it doesn't cost anything to just go out of our way to recognize students not just our academics but for being great Citizens Great people um another one we got the other day was about another state who was caring and compassionate to another student was going through a hard time and was there and

079spent extra time to make sure that they were doing okay I think when we talked about when we look back at our mission statement I think all the comments that have been put down really are an attribute to building the whole child and so I think what we're putting in place really is really doing a great job of that any questions Mr Schaefer of the theme really of my February court is on collaboration so I'm really looking forward to Spring um because we're there's opportunities for us to do some in-house to start talking about some in-house professional development between the people services staff and the rest of them the general education staff so looking for opportunities um to continue to work together and improving you know on how we are working with students in the

080classroom and providing the accommodation so all kids come out of the classroom so I'm excited to start that another piece is talking about or really meeting with the administrators first and then the staff on the kids get ahead initiative and really coming up with how are we going to use this new funding to continue to help our kids you know with social emotional development their mental health struggles right now specifically looking into a tier two social emotional learning curriculum for staff and then the final one and I can't believe we're talking about already but like summer school so summer school planning is full and swing for summer school so looking forward to working with staff again to create a creative and Innovative and fun summer program for the kids to come that's what we're working

081on thank you any questions thank you does anyone have questions talented report they want to direct ly don't come into a superintendent report any in fact I include the information from the youth class program which is provided to my cc7 on the first page to see all the districts in season seven and two other Juniors the seniors who have 18 of our student body involved in the youth Apprentice program the second page is your breakdown of the students on the industry that are in and then female male and minority groups and the final one obviously year after year in the Hallmark are in numbers have increased over the last three four years especially and that's just coming out of covet and is the program running better and better next year those numbers should drop a

082little bit because our junior senior student body would be smaller but the percentage will stay along the same thank you in regard to the bus drivers I had a couple of parents contact me because people were born by the bus and the kids almost got hit and when I asked about the bus driver Turned the Lights On the time they they were like we have the best bus driver we love our bus driver he does everything right and then this week on Facebook people were posting about bus driver week and people are jumping in and saying we don't have Larry we love her people love our bus drivers so I need to tell Sam that and to to relates back to them because they for kids they create me the first person they see in

083the morning and they they most people love their bus drivers which is a great thing one of the modern classes we have a couple of buses that cameras on the outside as well you can have some people looking forward to the stop arm and we're ordering a couple more each new bus we get to will have there was a book on it we're earning a couple for the buses that are the most recently purchased they're at 1500 confused to put them on but then the older buses are 5100 where hold off on them because we keep replacing our buses the bus were last April was supposed to be here in January they told us March but I don't know if it'll be here in March or not but we just got our other bus that

084we ordered this summer we didn't get that one until September so each new bus will have interior next year Amazon which doesn't necessarily make it safer but if a few people back up going by the bus got their 300 fine plus four points off their license and you might wait you do you need the video use our bus drivers who have the cameras are open the door run their lights making sure the kids are safe so fast they could catch the license bill every stop they don't sit and let the car across the room and say all right I got that license plate over until they won't buy because yeah it's too quick um so we did happen for on February 7 connected all the board members that were are here were there that David

085for the benefit of the administrators and audience um what a question came forward last month a policy on um Health policy regarding biometric screening and a person that brought it up said well you don't know why the staff did two biometric experience surveyed them before um you enacted the policy so the policy policy but that was a good point sometimes it may be easy to have Mr T instead of monkey type survey to staff if we want to get a quick feedback so it's a good point well taken um one of the Middle School teachers questioned the I'm not sure if it's elimination or restructure of their enrichment time they have intervention time and enrichment time and she said she didn't feel like she was getting a an answer so I think Mr Schaefer and

086Mr Luke are working on that yeah we've got a plan we already we addressed that better so you addressed it with them done done um it's a scheduling for enrichment intervention resource time in Middle School um and then the rest of the meeting was pretty much people speaking with us about um a possible reduction in staff at the 4K 5K level that's not been it's not a decision yet it's a item that was brought forward um as staff increases you and people instead of increases maybe maybe you take a decrease staff we don't there's not an end decision made but we heard a lot of input on that you heard some input tonight and we'll be discussing that again in close executive session tonight is there any other board members want to comment on any

087of those things and I forgot to call on the two people that wanted to speak paid groomers [Applause] thank you first I'd like to thank all of you for meeting with us last week it means a lot to know that you guys are open-hearted input um one thing that was asked of us was to offer a out-of-the-box solutions for a problem with low enrollment in 4k bike personally I'm not convinced that this is a problem at this point like do we have a trend or is this just one of those classes that are smaller than what we're used to this whole situation reminds me of my favorite sweater yep now the sweater continues against these little and I could solve this problem every inch of me wants to solve this problem by cutting it or

088stretching it but we all know that the solution would solve the problem in the short term but not the long term in the long term I could lose my sweater right so I'm not sure if we have a problem but it seems that we may have a loose thread here at Sebastopol and solving this problem by cutting a section or pulling and stretching the staff may feel like a solution but Sebastopol Elementary is at its best at two sections eliminating a section has never been considered when smaller groups have come through in the past because the long-term negative effects not seen in budget numbers out value that my current secondary class is a prime example in first grade they had a class size of 11 and 13. this group now sits at 32 with 16

089in each section creating one section wouldn't have allowed the wiggle room to grow when growth is the code stretching the patients of a staff member to wait until August or even May to know if they have a role as a teacher as a basketball devalues that teacher and their work we are in a post-covet era and a smaller group of kids is a blessing that we can take advantage of when parents are trying to find a school Community they can trust with their babies class size Matters they don't care how a school makes it happen they want their kids to be connected not managed smaller classes connect larger classes are managed we have data that we distributed comparing districts our net area the 5K class sizes and 22 kids in a class is a glaring

090disadvantage for Sebastopol in this situation let's not pull or cut that annoying little threat and watch our wonderful school start to unravel 30. we have a lot of expertise and passion for Sebastopol In This Very Room and we can come together we can communicate we can bring problem-solving mindsets to the table and we can help this community and this school home thank you coach thank you [Applause] okay so so I feel like when we were at the meeting last week we asked about we kind of set some numbers and some things I just we kind of wanted to give you actually a hand up happy because I'm going to ask for that too so the first um side is just kind of even when I brought up with my son his current senior kind of

091with the class sizes word if you notice it's pretty interesting so this is current Junior and senior class were pretty small and they're right where we are 4K 23 22 and and they didn't that kind of teacher I feel like I mean I think I've only been here for 20-ish years and we've always had two teachers so some of you guys know or have how long we've had two teachers per grade level but so even then I had mentioned too because even at that point when they were going from kindergarten to first grade one of our teachers was leaving so it's not going to be able to cut a teacher and there wasn't much discussion whether I mean it was a little bit of like do we hire a teacher do we not and then

092Katie hands was hired for a class and then it ended up being a 28th class and so I just kind of wanted to actually like give you the numbers that I you know found as it went and then if you can see the seniors are currently at 47. the junior class not so much I feel like Cove would really hit that and then on the bottom kind of what Katie said too about how her class went from 24 you know 24 to 32. and then okay and then in the back so I know when Katie groders kind of mentioned about sort of mania whereas you guys were kind of interested so we just as a staff kind of talk and did kind of what a parent will do we talked to friends who work at

093other districts so this isn't like you know 100 pure if you know but just for what we've heard from other teachers so like so and so I kind of put on their Sebastopol so typically kind of what we are now 18 19 for a class and there's one point like there's an hour and 15 minutes of now this was kind of this is regular Ed AIDS support because that kind of came up so it's not specialized this is just a teacher in there for an hour and 15 minutes to help all the kids that's what we have that's kind of more of a current year or like a typical year it's basketball okay so Algoma is more at 14 per grade level and they don't have any extra help but then Sturgeon Bay is between

09411 and 14 and may have full time AIDS in there to help in the classroom it's on the doors at 18 to 19 kind of more like us but they also have a full-time Aid in there and they were pretty excited to say that those aides are trained as much in the curriculum as a regular teacher is and then Gibraltar kind of the same thing to somewhere between 10 and 14 apparently this year they have 10 in a classroom for their kindergarten but they think it is more you know between 10 and 14 and then they said that it kind of depends a little bit there on if it's full-time or part-time Aid help in the classroom so when you look at you know 23 like people said that's that's huge and then I think

095if we if you really if you look at the fact that 11 and 12 like that and then if we can continue the same currently it's important an hour and 15 minutes we're actually right kind of in the middle there when you consider you know surgeon Bayer Gibraltar has closer to 10 with full-time Aid support so I feel like that's not even out of the question and then the bottom piece was just another thing we believed and said you guys had asked so they increasement this year was from 4K to kindergarten was nine I got nine extra students and then like I said four years back it was three and four and so there's definitely an increase typically between 4K so anyways we just want to give you numbers that you guys could look at

096you know I don't see you have a little bit more information from what we said last week okay okay thank you all again um we're gonna talk about this again tonight so any other board members want to commented verbs or questions of this information that we receive here very helpful okay the budget report uh for the month of January we received 4.1 million dollars on our tax levels which is about 35 percent of tax levy another forty four thousand and forty dollars received for the fast forward Wisconsin Grant and they'll use some special ed plane to come in later this month and PTI and the sr2 claims are complete the one answered three was the last phase of that money so with that additional sr2 and sr3 funds is with the auditor was talking involved

097the single audit they're auditing the numbers and the money that we receive from the state or from federal grants when you get over 100 750 000 that's when you get to single audit which costs the district more money but it's something they have to do so for the next three probably three years because we'll be over what the answer funds would be over 750 000 is money receiving federally questions from the board facilities um some people went to the Wisconsin Association of school board see anything learn anything that they'd like to me share a data harvesting I mean they're showing us but there's one so two-bedroom this doesn't show you can continue to other districts based on one dollar spent your students they were going to send me an email and I did send them

098a message back and I haven't received it it wasn't Hillsong I can't I don't remember right now it was a great it was a great program and they they rob us like they broke us down by our seesaw in dollars and the first tweet um too bad you can't also then but also showing you uh your academic outcomes oh just a second okay and it shows you know how much dollars you spend per student or men but how that works with your academic outcome and emergency together and to me from an administrative point of view that's everything you need to know how well you're doing academically versus the cost of doing it and it was like so taking all the data and supposedly we hit the data with them a day after you all report

099the data to the state Melissa and it takes the data in terms of it outside and you can do it anywhere you want to I think it was like eighteen thousand foreign there was yeah Jeff did you have anything you'd like to share no there was just a fascinating experience first time down there so it was nice to get into different uh groups and sections on what they have I wish they would have it scheduled better instead of having an hour off wishing it should get them in two days it's too long because you waste if you go to 45 minutes and then you've got an hour well do you go back here or tell them if you go upstairs or even spend money and then so that's where all conventions are because those exhibitors

100put the bill of it because so the reserves want X number of hours of free time for years ago and come back to school board meetings the administrator I saw this early Jim vanity quickly at least it got all excited over the mummy or the body I'll talk about that later so um I attended a session on book challenges which is uh topic right now and um wasb procedures for addressing complaints about learning materials and a couple of school districts were reporting on what they are doing and I brought back some materials to share with Bridget mowers on that topic I also attended the wasb breakfast in Tom Thibodeau with the speaker and he talked about the power of appreciation which was really a nice positive message and people responded very well to what I've

101seen the survey results from the convention and he got very high readings on his presentation I also went to a session on Title IX and transgender students and legal rights of students and there will be some new legislation coming out on Title IX within the next several months probably I went to a session on the new school laws and substitute teacher permits for college students who are 20 years old and still college students an opportunity for them to get special permits to sub because of the shortage of Subs um also went to a session on inclusive School Board leadership and they offered a worksheet for boards to assess where they are on inclusivity they also talked about the importance of this aggregating data and I think some of this would be helpful for our committee

102that we had going which has not met for a long time on equity I went to a session on Empower you a program to improve student motivation engagement and mental health and a hundred percent of the Ellen Brooks staff reported student growth in the area of Social and emotional well-being and mental health uh International programs available online if anybody wants to look at it and Empower you and just the letter u I also went to the legislative update which I shared a lot at our last meeting when we talked about the legislative upcoming state budget and uh the delegate assembly met a very long session there were amendments to the amendments to the Amendments all of the resolutions that you all saw did pass except the universal free lunch that one did not that one

103failed many of them that passed were amended and we unfortunately lost the Quorum uh so there were two resolutions that were not acted upon because we cannot proceed without a forum and because the session was so long like till five o'clock people had other commitments and had to leave but the most significant resolutions were acted upon and they're all online so you can check them out at the wasb website foreign I've had this here but in some schools people are challenging the topic of the topic of books certain topics of books that are in libraries and then school district has a Library community to review any challenges um I went to there was a session on college credits it's interesting to me because I'm hearing from students from last year that are saying gosh I

104wish I had taken this this or this or could have paid this this or this for college credits instead of um one you know our shop is great but one student the business schedule had to take woodworking so you need six curbage boards and a table for his mother when a college credit class would have helped him more so if we can explore more of that for our students and one thing I heard I can't go I can't find it online I can't go back and check it but we do some of our cat pluses we do our cap classes through Oshkosh and this was the Pewaukee School District Oshkosh would mix I don't know if Oshkosh wouldn't accept the class would accept the teacher for credit but they went to uwgb and uwgb and

105gave the college credit so it might be something for our guidance content to look at whenever I spoke to us to see if other schools offer that and Mr Schaefer was involver I got preliminary data this week on the number of college credits potential college credits with some of the seniors have been special up here the next month I'll give you that for the technical college credits in about four years through the challenges um one of the Nancy's long Journal sessions but this video came out of interview was there's a guy on Tick Tock called an Instagram called Terry Brooks and he's very funny they seem like that could never happen but that happened and then I did find a way to spend money they had this table about this long and they have a

106an electronic cadaver and to peel back the skin and you will see the blood vessels you can see the arteries you can see the muscles you can see the brain you can see the heart so if you were if you were going to promote the medical field that was fascinating um it was something the four school districts should look at maybe sharing getting a grant to purchase it it's eighty thousand dollars [Music] or whatever Progressive um but so when we have people going there maybe the school board should look at the topics ahead of time and say we are interested in this and a couple a couple of people should go to this and come back with it because we come back with these things and into one into one shot here and so it

107was fun for me to hear about but um there's not a payback for us so next year we're going to send people down there we these are the topics we're really interested in you go and see those I thought because um so is we have a process of reviewing books going to learn don't know the books that are in the library and many in the in the region would find them offensive so what is our review process this was at the convention I'm just saying so you review them when she's approving does anybody else here to do it because that's one person's opinion but one person thinks may be appropriate Others May think that's highly inappropriate being on the other discussion for next month's meeting I think would be I think would be wise since

108it is a point of contention in many school districts could be Pennywise so that they're prepared to have a A system that we understand and as a book selection for martial beings how are the book selections made and should there be an oversight process be that one person or a committee of staff yeah it was one of the sessions I attended and I gave that information to Bridget and I know she has gotten other information from wasb on that old comic foreign I love that I printed small ones I'm putting those red binders back together I got three of them I'm missing three of them so if you want to bring your binder next time I'll put this in the front so it's always in front of you and um I'll add the superintendent information

109out to the school board evaluation information or some other information and if you could leave it here we'll put it down there you can call it back and forth to everyone um then we have the second reading of revised policy number 5230 administration of administration emergency care so all standards worked out with Mary Durbin to do the over-the-counter drugs that she hands out on a regular basis and it has dark-hand treatment on there as well exactly the way copies of North Richard Cummins I took it for myself to contact the physician and I talked to that position how basic Narcan should be handled in school this may be too much is I I thought it was pretty good and Narcan is not any more complicated rather than anything else that person recommended that the administration

110of Narcan his topic with all the faculty shown now and allowed to distribute in our family in emergency situations that Narcan would be available in their most public places would be open to this office if you're probably in your office and even if you could find a way during athletic events where there's a whole bunch of people but that there be a call system just like you do for fire or bombs or anything else that you call it an alert Room 205 that means there's a student's distress through the teacher whoever Reserve thinks needs in our camp so any available faculty member who's been taught in this can know where to go with it get the Narcan and bring it in history so it's not left up to just one or two people but that

111you have a whole bunch of people trained on how to create marketing so tonight we have before us just approval of this policy if you want to put that for a discussion at the next week yeah yeah I I would have concerned we'll keep this determination of the discussion can we discuss that in the next week but so we're going to improve this policy tonight though I presume unless somebody doesn't make a motion I would love to approve the second reading of revised policy 5330 administration of medication slash Emergency Care second questions or discussions I would just like to add that I have some things on Fentanyl and also I did talk with Ben niehaus uh at wasb and he had some thoughts and education we've had some thoughts too which I will bring to

112the next meeting all in favor say aye aye opposed motion carry um I I guess maybe legislative update we're going to talk about item C of your business but the budget without the state budget um the wsbd Capital March 22nd 2023. I thought about it according to that it's going to death from the Builders Group it's kind of a fun day for people down there on a bus and we see the capital and see your two legislators but I couldn't see myself paying over 500 because we're not getting a bus I can see myself paying the registration fee hotel and travel for 500 and then being able to return time for the district and I know that the alleged language was the superintendents with the superintendents periodically so was anybody else interested in going to

113that I plan to attend and I did send out with the board packet some talking points which you had asked for at the last time yeah so you're gonna so you're gonna want the district to pay for the expense to go down or you're going to pay for it either way well my question is I don't know how to my my question is it's 500 it's you know it's 500 so we're talking we're talking about eliminated teacher so is the money we spend has to have a good return on investments or are we really gonna get a broader message across those legislators by sending someone to Madison or better off picking our three to five things getting it in a letter form from the school board and presenting it to them if it's a big

114issue I'll pay for it myself one of the issues are that we're one of those school districts and very limited funding and Equalization is zero right and and the revenue formula well well the regular employment is not going to change because if there's 15 commissions over the last 30 years they have never made a change to it and our governor was the former State supernet and he wasn't sitting superintendent he knows the formula is broke but he can't fix it either because there's winners and losers when you change it and there's going to be more people griping that they're a loser and we become winners and so they won't go for that it's the property Rich districts like us that aren't going to get more with the Surplus we have there doesn't have to be

115winners and losers okay we're gonna work for a moment we're going to move on from Item B and we're going to move to item C the district development in the state budget and the talking points that we might want to um might want to relate to our legislators and um because I've gone to 30 some years of days at the capital but on different topics but um and I always found that the most effective is when they come and sit in your office going on so I think it would be more effective for us yeah to bring in our state representative in our state senator together and we have some more information with them to discuss firsthand what our issues are here we have their full attention for a longer period of time and we

116hear it all as a group we can get our strategies out and are generally together with different agenda and have a participant down to earth face-to-face here at our place I I think we've been down that way I don't think we've had that discussion I mean I've been drone for a couple of times virtually okay I'm not understanding yeah he's aware of our our dilemma I mean it's like eating a finance committee last time and the Republican Party reassigned them to the education committee they knocked me basically off the joint finance committee that's not it is equipment put onion and this organized events like days of accountable are um sorry useless yeah but if you really want to if you want to try this time be able to so there's really an engaging back and

117forth you can show them examples of what's going on here so they have a better understanding of your particular organization and your situation and you can you you're in control of the agenda you're in control of the environment and you can do it whatever you want to if it isn't beneficial I don't know it's talking to any politician beneficial I don't know February third but with Andre and Joel were at the season 7 meeting I visited both of them went over things but if they get it but this is a concerted lobbying effort by Wes it's not just our our school district right it's it's you know a group and maybe there's you know more influence in numbers the ferry Coalition group has existed for over here by two years so I mean I think

118because they have a lot of effect maybe not but when you get a group together it seems to have a little bit more punch to it than we meet with two of our legislators and then the next week the fair taxpayers Alliance item part of that invisibility well we'll come down to Madison and talk about how their property taxes are too high and they got to do something they don't do that so those guys are going to hear from us they are going to get from Southern door I'm home from Kewanee but then they're also going to hear from some bigger districts that don't have the same issues we do so maybe we package our issues and that goes to them as a letter from the school board and either we would be asked to

119meet with them or have the superintendent view of them and Tom those three to five issues so let's look at this list and see if there are issues here that we want to come then found them there's been no Revenue limit adjustment in state public school funding citizens six or eight years consequently you have a lack of spaniel revenues the governor's budget tonight that he's presenting tonight says that he is um substantially substantially lifting them in Memphis I don't know how much that is substantially fifty dollars the first year 650 is the seconds was for almost he's going to be something is that we're interested fantastic that's right and we're interested in um the next item was uh dollars for special education and I think his proposal is it's on 60 versus 30 yeah we're

120at about 20 when we're at here yes but higher in that area these are all figures from Carl's and thank Carl for that so that would be an item that we would be very interested in right now Carl's got one concern about the special ed but I think the state will have to figure that out they're going to do something because they can't continue can't be sustainable but the maintenance of the operation yeah but so they're gonna have to change that we can't get into it at this point we're going to increase the funding to 60 and they're gonna have to change yeah it won't calculate [Music] um transportation and what I heard about the governor though that wasn't the top seven yes I don't think I saw anything on that um an increase for

121mental health services if that was something that he talked about yeah I know I want to know if he went with exact word release plan or became of his own plan because when she unveiled her plan on she was at our last packed meeting it's unfair that depending on the side of your district and that's the way she has it so I hope he adjusted it I I haven't seen anything for that but that would be an item that we are interested if it's spring break the way she's got it framed I would agree well if there's going to be a lot of movement on this before right an increase in literacy skills 20 million dollars each year to fund related programming that personally I'm not sold an unseen plan on that so I'm not

122sure that increasing conditions and coaches throughout the state staff development that's not hiding through that's that's uh science-based evidence-based [Music] that's that's five I don't see that as one of the for me I don't see what that is one of the tacos representative kitchens I know is very interested in that coaches coach yourself 56 new positions over a two-year period and then they did the regional they called the coaching with staffs and stuff so I don't think that games us a lot here at Sebastopol it does no because our reading scores High School this how many schools are there in the state of Wisconsin 412 if I have a 56 coaches 22. 15 hours of school per year a lot of our elementary teachers got their readings yeah that's that's not a good group for

123us but it's okay um staff shortages dollars for sale let's see staff short edition of facing all school districts whether it's teaching and administrative support or support staff shorts shortages require additional values for salaries and benefits to attract quality employees the governors by these guys recruit and train new teachers he's got to grow your own every industry's got shortage of workers right now it's got a world your own program um educational services to our students at that time it has already able to approximately 10 remaining will also be allocated prior to the 24 hours school year classes that's a good point to bring out to them this is important because there are those in the legislature who are saying which uh got all this money from the corporate funding and schools haven't spent it yet

124but we have expanded yeah we played Noah yes we have but come to school together not yet and this is giving fuel to those who say we don't need to give more funding to the schools because they haven't spent what they were allocating if we have any plans that we just claimed about it we just finished after two funds so we haven't played bars and three at all but we have it so they can point at us and say you haven't used it well you've got to use your two before you can use your three and we got a three-year plan so if we have a three-year plan we can't use it until the third we're in good shape you can go online and check this out but there's other districts that are in bad

125shape is encouraging those districts to utilize those funds it's bad so there's the board there's two more places for the colors proposals he's got more money going to ell which is exactly what we need so it's great okay and then he's looking at um free breakfast is it possibly free lunches for all students and I'm not so much in favor of that because we do have the free and Bruce lunch program for the percentage at get that so Sometimes some rich families or well loved families that are getting free through lunches and breakfasts that don't really need that but I'm more interesting ell money so on our list we would be we'll be in favor of his ell plan right um increase increasing the revenue limit absolutely yeah um increasing special education in a special

126education funding reimbursement um increasing Transportation Aid we are in favor of this additional monies for mental health so how do you want to present these tools pigeons and job well I will take them to Madison at the day of the capitol I can certainly send them to I think I draft a letter to you guys in March too and then decided to decide I think a letter from a school letter from the school board all of us saying here all assignment or have our names typed on and of course next time the disability talks to them big levels I really loved another seasonings so what does that other side well the other side said okay proposal from the blood Governor which tonight is going to be the best skillet for Education they're going to send

127it to the Joint finance and Howard marketing this guy is going to sit there and pick it apart the all the what do you call private schools there's about 110 000 private school students in Wisconsin called 50 000 of them are funded right now through the voucher program so we're going to try and get yourself the 110 to 10 000 so some chocolate money is going to go there um especially a big knock on it and they're just gonna hit the 350 650 they're going to knock on that number really hard on them because they're going to say how you doing a great amount and hopefully Beaver has pushed that up high enough so that when they knock it down it's about where you thought it'd be more than what he thinks he's going to

128get this is the best budget you can get yeah I don't know and then Robin boss and we get his brother's going now the problem with the Surplus is so much of it is one-time money I think I know what percentage of it but it's a big percentage of that seven billion dollars is one time yeah I think that's exactly right because the mental health is 270 million over two years and then what happens in that third year when the Surplus is gone I don't know so to me the majority of this rate you would you would hear your increased funding to the Surplus so as the surface goes up you get more money the Surplus goes down you should get less of them or else there's going to be back there and cut you

129more than but this this surface right but as a school district you can't have any heavier rug to keep bolts around that's why it's great we could increase per pupil every year but then when they held it solid it's zero for six years that's still good and then when they did last time they put it on as a categorical age it was categorically just dependent upon the budget being approved every two years and so hopefully that stays would say well what Surplus means is you over tax me all these right there's a group out there once and right so right remember it's supposed to be like this it's not supposed to get big surpluses so that means you over text your protectors so they're gonna say give me my money back there's a group out

130there like that right two they got something right I think I think I think an argument that you're gonna make is that uh Deliverance have been in place since at 10. 00 or 200 bucks a year and then there was at 10 when they actually went down for a year and then it was a six year freeze lead recently so it's all depends on who's controlled for the first strings all right now I would say Common Sense personal State you can't keep freezes in Forever eventually you're going to have to open up the first level some of the folks that kept the threes for six years felt that education was receiving too much money stuff is their way of saying you've got enough for your estate at zero because I think you have to fly

131actually before Tommy Thompson what was happening with education and people in people's taxes at that fair educational taxes were going like through the book and people were really upset about it spending was high that year and that's what they based it on for fall every following year thereafter but no one knew that at the time and the original Network she was supposed to be out for five to six years and then they're going to retool it and they can never retool it they just left it as is so if you have your magic wands of rose I would freeze districts like Gibraltar and a district like Belmont by increase or Seneca and I increased that their per view because our kids aren't worth as much dollar wise as a Gibraltar kid but our kids are

132worth more than Southern door and Sturgeon Bay and so I'd make it more fair on Who's got what on that night just each one I look at all 422 and I balance them out and you got to also run it all those 422 summer K-8 districts and some are 912 districts and they should go to less than the rest of us because they're not educating their kids the same way and the voucher schools are getting a huge amount I will give a dollar at a private school we send seventeen thousand dollars to voucher schools and don't okay about here we go I'll call it a 10 or 11 years ago every District got a sheet and on the top it told you how much of your money is going to Milwaukee you can ocean Racine

133and Howard our client took that line off there two years after he got on the joint finance committee because he didn't want to show you how much money from Sebastopol is going to those prisons down there and now it's Statewide for the voucher program widened out and folks didn't know what was happening in the state of Wisconsin because it was Sebastian or worry about it because it was just a little chunk pulling down to Milwaukee can also receive and now it's expanded Statewide and the limit the limit is going off in what year 2026. are putting that's on Underpants built but ours are not from a global point of view I'm just trying to answer I see the future is happening already in some states is very popular the dollars follow the student if Dallas

134don't go to their districts so it's up to the districts to be able to provide a great product that people wanted some of their kids are in those scholarships that's what we have available but enrollment our students work way of Alabama is an open enrolled in it's worth 885 they're not worth as much as a residential student but kids do you talk about those guys are also going to flow to private school that's where the vulture money is going right now 50 000 kids are having dollars follow business grow to all right it's going to go to 110 if the wrong people get their choice yeah and it's not you can't put it back it was 50 000. yeah and do they get reimbursed at a higher rate than we do which is totally wrong

135they're going to work more than ours so we have so we have pretty good access to the kitchens and jobs um personally Mr loopy meets with them I think as Keith said they they know our situation so do we do this as a letter have the school board assignment and present it to them sure okay um do we want to send somebody do we want to find somebody to go to the day of the castle I moved a refund the representative from the school district school district yesterday questions or discussion opposed don't okay um School participation in the USA play track leave some students are interested in trying to interactively and growing sport because the explorers and middle schoolers and here's enough to do so on this thing to researched it and it's I can't

136do the name of the club it's up and it was like Sophia I'm here oh go ahead and talk about it okay um hi thanks for your time tonight I'm so far I'm here presenting on the USA they target lead opportunity for Sebastopol um I've been working with Brooke over the last month and a half to established this opportunity for students here as fast forward what we are seeking today is the approval to register for the Spring Track league as Sebastopol High School use the Pioneers logo allow students to represent what's best for the week and to confirm myself as head coach we all have some information packets but I'll provide kind of a brief overview of what the program is USA plays a nationwide Target the organization for high school and Collegiate athletes the

137priorities of the league are safely fun and Marksmanship in that order I have been a member of winslow.com which is located in johnville for three years and have noticed that there's a great opportunity to grow Youth Sports shooting and safe and organized way USA Clay is an opportunity to bring a brand new activity to students in Door County grades 6 through 12 are eligible to participate so it's available to middle school students and at this time we have 23 Sebastopol students who have expressed interest about participating um the program is a virtual program what that means is that athletes shoot only at the potential Gun Club there is no travel required we upload scores each week and get ranked against other Wisconsin high schools across the state while the program is required to be supported

138and approved by a school the school does not actually fund or provide any staff so this is not seeking any funding from the school to do another interesting fact is that because the program is not a formal High School sport students can participate alongside their traditional Media Sports like tracks and baseball things like that if approved I plan to work with roof to coordinate competition nights around other school sports here in Sebastopol to ensure that students that want to shoot can shoot the cost of the program is 125 which includes all ammunition insurance and shooting time Club registered athletes will also receive a yearly membership.com I believe Brooke included a breakdown of the costs in your packets but I can provide more information on that if there are questions all students are required to have

139either hunter safety or the USA class safety course completed prior to being eligible to compete as a head coach I am required to obtain a coach certification through USA class those are just the main points of the program that I want to share with you I'm happy to answer any questions but as I mentioned tonight we hope that you may improve the team as an activity here at Sebastopol so that you can register for the spring league and bring this new activity to students here the ratio approaches the shooters in Center one yep so if we have 23 students required to have three times uh just clarify um because there is a cost to the students I'm always concerned that some students might not be able to participate because the families couldn't afford the cost

140so there is a way of addressing that is that corrected to fundraising or yes to the actual cost is 375 per student we are already sponsorships to offset and subsidize that cost if there is a student that cannot afford it we will make an accommodation for that okay and that's would be known so that a student who couldn't afford it would know that there was a way yes okay okay someone who said you don't you just shoot at the same place or just recently started we do like the lead against Sergeant is part of the Scholastica program which is a program actually travels we wouldn't Travel USA plays Elastic Heart to different tracks organizations in Wisconsin so we would only shoot at this event Hub and then every week our scores get uploaded you're put

141into conferences based on how many athletes are on the team so we would be scored against other teams if you have 23 athletes we'd be scored against others who have roughly 20. the season starts March 26th it's 10 weeks it runs through about June 10th everything is applicants look on Club except for the last weekend is a state meet which is in Rome Wisconsin so that is an actual travel route that's the only time that we've been traveling and all teams qualifiers yep everyone goes to state and they can specifically up do this alongside their track or whatever when would you have practice but when you have that's something that I'm going to try to work out with Brooke so that we can make sure that the practice or that you can practice it's all

142pretty much just competition they're shooting 50 Clays a night um so they would shoot like the 5 30 6 o'clock once a once a high school sport practice is over we can also shoot on the weekends we're able to shoot two days a week so it can actually accommodate flexibility with student schedules and you provide the cultures because we have to find coaches um we provide the coaches yes everything is done through the gun club okay and so it starts March 26th and kids register and they don't have they haven't taken them first yes also these will be required to complete the Online safety course and there's also a in-person course that they'll have to complete prior to being eligible to compete they can register but they'll have to have all of that prior to

143being able to actually shoot them and what about them wants to participate so if they don't own the firearm as large expense yes that's true so we are able to rent or borrow at the club that's a part of the USA clay allows that if there are available Firearms a student can rent abroad so for 25 students then the total cost would really be 9 375 and you're looking for 125 per student we're seeking we've already been seeking sponsorships we already have some um but security so that 125 is that from the student there's no funding that comes from the school it's an interesting organization in the sense that we have to perceive school to a school district approval but it's very separated from funding and Staffing and all that and you don't think about

144the sixth graders too young um if they are able to get their hunter safety they are able to represent [Music] so middle schoolers don't have a lot going on in the spring so it's a great opportunity to give them an activity that's happening more than that well as soon as word gets out yeah absolutely um we yeah I hope to take out a lot I mean Luxembourg is the team that I kind of worked with to start this process they have 64. so it'd be great to have his child through this program Gibraltar is that um they are moving forward to trying to establish their own program right now other questions for um Sophie Sophie other questions for Sophie is there a motion promotions question to discussion here again all in favor say aye aye

145opposed motion Gary thank you very much [Applause] fundraising so I'd like to First make a motion on them I would move to approve the first reading of the revised policy 583-0 student fundraising second today okay questions or discussion so the second page is that cover events for example like fish creek games there's alcohol served in 10 inclusive clubs running it and our kids go up there and run the games are not fighting alcohol or separated from it and it's really not the schools the booster club is doing it but we're kind of Affiliated so you have one through 11 of the second page I've covered this very very blank over this but Brooke and I and I suspect the bowling alleys don't shut down the bars in high school kids are there both but I

146don't know if it was a tent weight back there over here yeah but you can go into a barter and order food sometimes a lot of things put a little food is the kids are allowed to go into those sandwiches I'm just saying they're not okay like I don't I just don't understand that what's the difference while they're throwing the bowling balls so what's the difference fundraising we're helping out with the booster club and there's alcohol there so this is saying we can do it as long as we follow these guidelines here but that's what the 11 little plates are you can also says the subject could be in the pre-approved like this weekend so there'll be special I mean I I keep going back to the Bicycle Tour that we have here at the

147disaster and we all remember the issue that came up with alcohol being served at the uh now apart uh when we had FFA students helping them with parking and yeah it got to be kind of a real issue and the promoter of the bicycle tour the school chose to separate from him that was a huge fundraiser yeah [Music] they chose to not be involved with it anymore because of the alcohol yeah yeah I mean it was kind of a it got to be a personal issue [Music] promoter of the tour but um I guess I would think that there would be other special instances where students are separated from the alcohol distribution part but could still participate as you know well that's why they love it yeah you know it says that the vendor must

148be licensed and obtained the plane yeah right so you want to make sure I was never going to apply for the classrooms you know we're never going to be involved in English so no it said it yeah yeah I think number eight athleticos we're not allowed to drink during the fundraising episode athletes are present you know I mean it just gives us some guidelines right and it's benefited by seven says students coach serving alcohol so there are separated from it that day right so any fundraising activity is about facility alcohol will not be permitted permissible on School District premises for any reason if we rent the Town Car no like we have a baseball or softball game over there then that becomes school grounds because it's part of our extension of us because we're we're

149using we're paying to use that facility so that at that time during the fall game it's our facility but they don't serve alcohol no right because the stand is open there may be all called the only time the parks are is during our rental period with practice writing but I mean living any other comments questions hearing that all in favor of proving this first reading on the policy yeah right opposed motion carry facility use I think it was the last painting it was made before we had a big long discussion about facilities we're families wouldn't have a practice wouldn't have a game and Sunday mornings where it's families can not have to think about going to practice or a game do what they want to do um I would like a clarification of that is

150that just that will just um our varsity teams our JV teams our middle school teams or does that extend to the other people that use our gym such as Etc foreign schools our school sponsor team scheduled afternoon we've provided our own teams for practicing on Sunday mornings but in 25 years or Club volley wants is a Sunday morning that's not our west side of school starts we want so that we are online so if you tell me a little bit delay anyway so we all can have their family time to church time to respect the policy that anybody since we didn't do that but right now we don't do that because they always get the worst time so this is It's attorneys too by parents I mean it's it's Choice it's Choice pay parents it's

151Choice by family but then sometimes those parents it's a choice sometimes they're there's pressure put on them because the kids well I I've got to go work I couldn't leave the player I'm not gonna I'm not going to get better and I I wish we could not use something that we should not use Wednesdays Sunday mornings to allow families to have that time to go shop at Costco or have breakfast or do whatever they're going to do because my kid 's songs but I mean I wish we could afford to build a nice gyms so we could have a third gym to yourself too okay I don't know that we do anything unless somebody wants to be about somebody for your emotion we have a policy not only do I leave something for school what

152do we need to schedule our own teams we follow noon or later on Sundays if we get a facility news form requests from an outside group we allow them to use our facility on Sunday mornings so if you're telling me stop doing that and make a motion otherwise I'm going to keep the way I'm doing it it was my what what do we feel that we're biological making it difficult for families to do those things when we moved to Wisconsin various churches have theirs and that varies from District to District there's a guy grew up in was that it was wide open some of the night was varsity practice because then we go around the other side and make it happen that's how we got a good discussion tonight we were talking about both sides

153of our mouth we dwindling Ohio the families don't do anything come on down anytime I think the school sponsored sport we're practicing what clubs do is [Music] is it is [Music] use our facilities the the club Bob we've all the spike town they they're like not even they don't even use the semester like Mighty Pioneers people who perceive that as a school room they don't people and they don't need to understand that the school doesn't find it but the spike palette is a blend of multiple kids from different schools like Pioneers as majority as hard hits who comes in on Sunday mornings to open the building up and make sure it's working in the furnace is not on the list yeah we also refuse it for that yeah it's a teacher coach from here they're

154already certified to do that if we have if it's an outside group that they don't have school like that then we have to decide a fully support then they get charged for that I think the heat's on right here yeah that way it depends I can't go anywhere if you wanted to change otherwise yeah she's gonna keep doing what he's doing otherwise no seconds you got that girl thank you okay well wait well I make a motion to leave 95.60 Bob just trying to Surf amend you for pressing it up again by letting you know that his eyes would have it here is there a second I'll second guessing all favor say aye aye aye opposed aye okay so then so you're on record we're on record that's good um one other item that came

155up at the meet and confer and the occurred before I asked call on our board or the staff evaluation last spring the board scored low on communication to the staff we don't know what that means I asked and the one thing that came up and I've heard before is we'd like to know what happens in the meeting sooner than having to wait for the minutes to come out or listen to the whole meeting to hear that one or two things but what I thought we might try and this was suggested to me two times is to have it um to have a kind of a recap of the meeting short sweet that intended is official meeting minutes got intended as um but just an update to the staff and that um action would be finalized

156with approved minutes so I did a draft which I'll pass out to you and when we come out of closed session we can take a look at this you can see um if we want to use it we can fill in any blanks and then I would give it to um here Chris Muller I sent it to them in the morning and they can send them up to the staff and they will tell them if there was any action on items discussed so that's all I have on that is there that would conclude our regular business then is there a motion to convene to Executive session all right hi proportion character 9 37 pm
