to our consent agenda items we have our minutes from august 2nd 2022 our payment of the bills and our special education related service contract is there a motion to approve the consent agenda items so i moved second any discussion okay i need to make sure that i recuse myself from approving check number one one nine two two four in the amount of four thousand five hundred and forty dollars to two guys flooring and also the check number one one nine three zero five in the amount of three hundred and seventy five dollars to two guys flooring any other discussion uh i'll i'm just gonna abstain from this one i'm not sure which one i'm on but i do believe okay thank you okay all in favor all right any opposed motion passes okay now down
to our plc team reports we've got our horizon high school plc report i'm chair board i'm chad hamilton the principal horizon um do we have to turn it in where is it testing one-two okay um i'm chad hamilton the principal at horizon high school um so i'm pleased to introduce my staff and i think it was last week we were asked i think admin asked for volunteers to have our teachers come up and explain from their perspective kind of how the plc process works in each building and i volunteered them but they're happy to do that what i want to explain before they get started is that our horizon teachers they're awesome number one they've got to teach everything not just one class all day long but all the classes so they got lots of
preps but they also have two plcs primarily sometimes more they work with the teachers at ehs once a week if not more they go up to those meetings and those plcs and participate in those plc meetings but then we also have our own separate building level plc where it's just our horizon staff and typically we meet on monday late starts when we're not doing a district-wide pd when it's just a building pd and to start the year off typically we do we go through a process and i'm going to kind of have them come up here and explain that um yeah so i'm gonna stop talking let them do it okay all right all right so i'm cecilia vihar i teach math um at horizon and i'm going to talk today about our norms when
we meet in our plc groups our norms we kind of call these how we play nice in the sandbox that just means how we get along with each other in these meetings as you guys know can be a little high tension sometimes but if we all agree on a few things they go a little smoother so we agreed to be on time to not interrupt and no sidebar convos so we're not going to get off track and deep into gossip or whatever we agreed to have a collaborative culture which is so important in our plc's that's how we get our work moving forward and accomplish all of our goals we also agreed to use our time efficiently no beating of dead horses so i'm sure you guys have come into an issue where you're just
talking about something over and over and over again it's not getting anywhere that's beating a dead horse we used we agreed to use our time efficiently and sometimes the most important one is to end on time if you don't use your time efficiently it's easy to go over on time but ending on time is important so those are the norms that we agreed on and each department kind of agreed on similar norms maybe a little different depending on which department you work in or with but norms kind of establish how we play in the playground how we play nice with each other in the sandbox questions okay thank you thank you thank you jaren can you scroll all the way up to the top of that agenda um i'm candy decoy i teach at horizon
culinary arts college and career readiness i also do student council in yearbook so yeah horizon we're kind of jack of all traits as teachers i'm going to talk a little bit about the roles this year we changed it up a little bit in our first plc so we always have facilitator and that's hamilton but we have a backup person as well recorder myself and then vihar backs me up if i'm not there for some crazy reason time manager that's to make sure we adhere to our norms of beginning on time and ending on time and that's lux and hangerstag this year and this year we changed up a little where it's morale manager that used to say resource manager but since we have frontline and we can all just plug into our p pd points
and everything that way we changed it to morale manager because that's kind of an important role so ingersoll and tucker both share that role and um they start off and kick off our meetings with a i call them bell ringers in my class right but these are like team building exercises that we do and sometimes casey brings snacks which is great so we all kind of look at our roles and agree upon them every quarter we do this and we change things up if needed so if i'm like well i don't want to take minutes anymore cecilia you take it over this quarter or whatever we can change them around every quarter so every quarter we review all this and change it up if if needed any questions on rolls all right thank you very
much hello i'm mr hingestag arnie hankestegg sorry in this setting i teach social studies at horizon um i'm going to talk to you a little bit about the process we go through in our plc at horizon to i guess come up with our mission and vision for the most part just to kind of read through our mission statement hhs develops a community of educated determined and respectful learners as measured by the waea old school accountability system who rise above their story okay so what we're trying to do there is talk about the community that we are and being respectful in our classrooms and we're trying to get that point across to everybody we're trying to also talk about how we measure our goals by using that accountability statement the old school accountability system and the
rise above their story is a big theme at our old school in really respecting students working with them understanding we can all grow together improve our situation so this process for us um you know thinking about it is last year we really dove in and rewrote the mission envision and it took some effort it took we did worked on it mostly on monday mornings the late starts and we did a brainstorming session kind of broke into groups got together again and uh had pretty big discussions over this and really just trying to key in with our you know using keywords that you know really sent the message that we wanted trying to be positive all those kinds of things so i mean having the rules the norms in place all those things really helped us
it did take us a period of sessions to do it this year when we revisited it we decided we were really good with the mission and the vision statement and we were happy with those and we spent more time working on our goals it's kind of refining those to meet our vision and our vision statement is hhs meets individual needs and nurtures individual growth for all students so that's all i have any questions okay thank you thank you hi uh casey ingersoll i'm pe in health uh and fundamentals of construction at horizon uh and i'm going to talk to you about kind of our goal setting process that we went through this year so a little bit different this year and mainly because of the plc process and the things we've kind of learned over
the last probably really like three years um so previously uh goals were just kind of like given to us like hey here's some important things that we should maybe like think about and work on as a school as part of the plc process and we were part of the wde plc i don't know the official name but teams we kind of met three times throughout the year last year um and one thing they really sort of focused on was the importance of what they just kind of helped us with having the quality vision and mission having your roles and your norms set and then really having like some goals that we all agree on not just that we're given uh that we have buy-in on uh and that we find that are that are sort
of important for us so um every year we review the uh i guess our alt-school accountability system and there's some pieces that fall into there and that's how we get our like school like rating system basically um and there's some pieces that are more important than others uh and that's what we kind of uh looked at this year we broke into groups uh so that we were in teams of three we went out for probably 15-20 minutes we discussed what data goes into your accountability system what do we feel we have a real strong like impact on what can we sort of change and make movement on and we came up with goals individually we came back as a full team and then just discuss those goals uh why did we think this should be
in and this should be out uh and those sorts of things and uh i don't know if you maybe it's on there or not but uh some of the goals that we came up with uh so i guess achievement it's it's important for all schools we feel like it's really important for us so we kind of honed in on that as one of the big ones increased our proficiency level on our y top summative assessments for both ela and math we feel like we can all chip in and help with that goal so we have that one increase at 25 each grade level our next one that we really feel like we have some powerful control over at horizon is the growth goal and we really feel like we can grow 80 or 90 of
our students that's from their fall interim test to their spring summit of the test so that's where we feel we can make a huge impact so that's one of our goals and then some other things that fold in their graduation rate that's one of our goals so increase our graduation rate by another sort of i guess proficiency score is our act scores for 11th grade students so that's one of our goal increase our scores by 10 across the board and then the last one which is a little bit unique for alternative schools is we take a climate survey so just kind of more or less a school culture how's things going kids take it in the fall kids take it in the spring and the state sends us back data uh for both situations uh
and we just want to increase our overall climate survey by eight percent so that's moving up about one i guess point one uh in every category so um that's kind of how we came up with our goals like i said a lot different this year we split off in groups we came back as a group and we have full group buy-in on them questions on that yes yeah your graduation rate was approximately 47 a couple of years ago what was it last year graduation rate i don't have the data like right in front of me right now i can tell you uh so graduation rate um it's a four-year cohort um and at horizon uh we give every student a chance i understand but but wyoming does come up with what your graduation rate is
every year yes so do you know what your goal was from 2021 to yeah so our 47 graduation rate for horizon you gotta remember we're an alternative school right and so we deal with at-risk kids is actually a pretty high rate compared to the rest of the alternative schools so we improved and that's how we we were exceeding state expectations on the accounting accountability measure last year and that was one of the ways that we improved is through that graduation rate now uh graduation rates are always a year behind so i don't know you know what what 23's or 22's graduation rate is uh it's on some of the performance report data that's not open to the public yet but it's it's i can't answer if we raised on graduation rates to have your graduation
rate increased by 15 this year yes what's your start yes exactly i think it was 47 we want to increase that by 15 if we can do that we'll meet the measurements set by the state to maintain that either exceeding expectations or making expectations how many students did you start with this year so uh we have 52 enrolled right now this year now one thing that i think is really important to note with horizon and graduation rates is that that cohort right is four years so uh let's take ninth grade right a lot of folks think uh graduation rates are just based on oh hey you got 20 12th graders this year so if 18 of them graduate then you're doing good you know you got an 80 graduation rate or more that's not how
it works no i understand yeah i'm looking at that okay it's four years so when we take on those ninth graders um that typically you know they're they're at-risk kiddos i have some in my building this year that haven't been in school for two years right we take on those guys and then next year's 10th graders we take on a few more and pretty soon usually our cohort rates at our cohort sizes at horizon are could be as many as 80 some students in a 12th grade class you're probably never going to see more than about 20 or 30 students in 12th grade at one time at horizon but over the course of four years they add up and we take on some students like i said that haven't been in school for two years
and and you know we like our goal is on there we nurture we do our best to nurture the individual needs of students and the reason that we have been able to meet or exceed state expectations on accountability is because we're doing that and so sometimes that doesn't mean we graduated the kid sometimes that kid after a year or two goes on to boost or boces or the hiset and completes that program and under the alternative school accountability model that student counts as one of our graduates what's super confusing is that we're also held accountable to essa all the art schools in the state are too so we have two systems so the the same system that's in place that holds evanston high school or any regular high school in place we have to meet
those too so you'll see two different readings yeah that's the federal system and if you don't get an 80 graduation rate under their model you're automatically in school improvement at the federal level so you're looking at roughly uh 62 graduation rate at the end of this year that that's that's that's what we're aiming for yeah under that and that's you know the long long-term goal being you know five six years out 100 percent you want them all to graduate yeah exactly yeah so okay great thank you thank you anything else okay thank you any other questions for the team no okay i actually i'm going to jump in real quick we have a new member that we need introductions for before we started why mike you want to introduce yourself tell us a little bit
about yourself this is maya savage he's our student representative so tell us about yourself um so i'm isabedra i'm a senior at the evanston high school here and i'm the 2022-2023 student body president yeah i'm just happy to be here so maya even ran and was elected knowing that he gets to sit with you guys for a couple hours once a month a couple hours from live to you and maya just so you know in front of everybody is they really do want your opinion about uh certain questions there are some that you may be a little foggy to you but a lot of the work that they do hits students and so they would like your opinions don't ever hesitate to express it yes and they'll ask you questions and no question is a
dumb question okay no congratulations okay let's go ahead and move on now i just wanted to make sure we took care of that so our next item on our agenda is the winning meadows elementary plc report madam chair members of the board is this working yes it doesn't feel like it to me i am absolutely excited to introduce this wonderful group of educators this is our third grade team from uintah meadows elementary my opinion they are leading the country in plc work the stuff that they do is model it is the yes you introduce yourself oh i'm brad francis i'm the new principal at unto meadows elementary thank you sorry my bad um but yeah this is our third grade team like i said the work that they do is model it is um you
could take it to any plc conference in the country and they would put put them in front of teachers and and instruct them so they prepared some really awesome stuff for you today centered around the four critical plc questions which they're going to explain for you madam chairman and members of the board we are young meadows third grade elementary third grade team um this is melissa roundy jenny day michelle adams and i'm robin walton today we're going to talk to you about our professional learning community and how we utilize the plc process to guide our work with our students in each subject we're going to share with you like you said the four questions and some documents that we utilize as we cycle through the plc process the four questions are what do we want
kids to know how will we know and how will they know if they've learned it what if they don't learn it and what if they've already learned it so we will give you a brief overview of what we do in third grade at un meadows so the first question in the plc process is what do we need kids to know we use priority standards chosen by the entire third grade district team to determine what our curriculum is going to be then we use those standards to create proficiency skills and then we take those proficiency skills that we did as a district level and we turn them into student proficiency skills that are friendly to them and those proficiency skills will scaffold the students learning and slowly work them towards the end goal so like the
score one would be like where they would start and it builds on like the skills they have built up to where they need to be to be proficient or above and then the students use those kid-friendly skills to track their own progress towards achieving that learning goal so they know where they're at okay the next question in the plc process is how will we and they know if they've learned it so the first thing we do is we use daily affirmative assessments and those we use to change our daily instruction and kind of guide us where we need to go after that we use a weekly quick check and those weekly quick checks determine what when group the students go to when group stands for what i need and there's some examples of the quick
checks up there and then also within that question is how will the students know if they've learned so those proficiency skills jenny showed you the students have those we teach them how they work we teach them the steps they need to take and then we actually conference with them once a week so they know right where they're at what they've learned what they still need to learn and why they're going to that one group okay so the third question is what will we do if they don't learn it we use win groups to fill in the gaps in students understanding students are strategically placed in groups based on their specific needs and then we share all of the kiddos across the grade level as they go to different teachers rooms and work with us and
our parents for win time by sharing students we are able to provide more targeted instruction and in and in smaller groups we're so fortunate at um to have additional pair of support we have a lot of pair of support and we feel so very lucky because they are such a huge help to us during our win group times so that we can lower the ratio of student to teacher and then we have our fourth question what do we do when they've already learned it so during the win time these students will build on the knowledge that they've learned to stretch and apply their learning often these are real world applications projects or discussions still within that priority standard to be more specific students are not learning anything new only deepening and applying their knowledge of
that specific standard here again we're fortunate to have the great support that we have so after we've given many opportunities to show proficiency in that standard and we've gone through a complete unit we assess our students using that common formative assessment that was shown earlier so to end we want to thank you very much for supporting our late start mondays without that time to work together as a team we could not possibly take on this huge um this huge amount of work during our team time on monday mornings we analyze data that we collect from all of our different assessments we create resources for all of our win groups we build and we revise our tiered instruction and in addition that we also if we have any spare time share our best instructional practices as
we plan for each tier of learning and we're always learning from each other to find the best way to reach all of our students thank you thank you so much would you like to ask us any questions i i'm sorry i do go ahead um and this is from a grandparent uh because i i have a grandchild that's in the third grade there and uh but the question i have is is kind of a a big question and the fact that i know it's been a challenge for all teachers everywhere with the with the debit that occurred have you found as we've kind of come back from this pandemic if you will um any challenges with lack lack of you know kids are just not where they need to be and you know what i
mean does that question make sense so then my i guess my question then becomes is is you know it's a challenge i know that how do you overcome those challenges i mean this is great i can i can see this is great here but how how do you overcome that challenge of kids that might be half a year or a year behind because of the coveted thing just a general question so that's where our win groups really save us because we have so much support and our cfas our common form of assessments are very strategic very focused we can drill down pretty well to like specific needs and then with all of our support we're able to have very small groups to best have a little at least one on one or one to three
or one to four to really help kids speed that up um it's always a challenge michelle is this one on at all yeah okay so one other thing to piggyback off of that is where we do share all of the kids we each have our own strengths so i know if i have a kid that really needs help with reading i'm gonna get them to robin's win group and if there's a kid that might need help with a certain writing aspect i will take them and so on with our other team members and so really relying on each other and the level of trust we have within our grade level really helps us get those kids where they need to be correct i think i have one more thing about this forever but also because
we have a we have a pretty strict schedule tier one time tier two time two or three time and i think for those kids that are multiple years behind we've dedicated a tier three time just for those kids so they're still getting grade level things they're getting support in the grade level things and then they're also getting instruction that'll help them fill the gaps for where they're behind and so it really is super fortunate enough or we're super fortunate to have that tier three time and the support that can help us teach those kids that are a little bit more further behind wonderful thank you yeah can i just add one more thing too sorry i think that we are and this is credit to this district and the planning that went ahead of this
we were so well prepared for the pandemic because plc and this work that we're doing it gives us much more data on where our kids are pre pandemic even pre-plc work high reliability schools work we probably wouldn't have known really how far behind they were but now it's real easy to pinpoint where a student is based off that assessment that all four of these teachers give on the very same day and they know exactly where that kid sits they talk about each and every kid and where to place them and then we address those needs specifically so the system that we have in place is perfectly tailored for stuff like a pandemic and it is a challenge right i mean there are some deficits that we see but we're much better equipped to handle them
how many third craters do you have right close to 80 close to 80. 76 yeah are there any other questions thank you thank you so much thank you very much thank you okay down to our recognitions so the first one we have is our certification for level two i'm going to come up here for this madam chair members of the board we are very proud and very pleased to inform you and and the community that all eight of our schools have been certified level two in terms of high reliability schools i don't think i can emphasize enough what that means this has been a goal for the last five years we we certified level one and you can see level one deals with safe and collaborative culture level two deals with effective teaching in every
classroom in order to make this happen you can see the indicators on level one and level two we not only have to produce and provide evidence that we are doing these things but we also have to have it in practice a third party outside of our district and outside of our state come in and assess our schools and all eight of our schools were certified it's been a goal of this board for six years to be certified level two by 2022 and we did it hats off to our teachers and the work involved i think they left but i was going to ask them the amount of work that is involved in being certified with this at each site this is not a district certification this is a building level certification you already set the
goal to be certified in level three by 2024 that gives us two years remember once we're certified level three it means we have to recertify level one two and three so we're doing all that every year you just heard a perfect example of why this work is so important because it's tailored to the individual student and it's based on data and what they need in addition to this the information about our accountability which is also a board goal that all schools will meet or exceed the accountability standards is out it is still embargoed but i can tell you that six over eight schools uh exceeded met or exceeded those requirements and the two that didn't were one-tenth off of meeting those expectations so we're getting closer and closer and we'll we'll spend next month and
go over those accountability standards but what it states at mr trustee dubois is exactly that is we took steps not only during the pandemic and after the pandemic that kept our students on track and learning it worries me that our community even some of our staff members follow the national that somehow we're failing kids in public schools we can show through this certification and through our achievement data that we're not failing students they are progressing and learning and this represents as i said a great deal of work for our teachers and our principals and leadership to pull this off we are the only school district in wyoming that's certified level two we're the only school district i believe in the region that's certified level two with this hrs work and it is the right work
at the right time and so hats off to our staff hats off to the board for sticking with us for so long we're going to try to find ways to celebrate this over and over again like i said we did give them two years to hit level three but they are working on it now we do believe that some of our schools may be certified level three after this year so again hats off to really the district for accomplishing this but it's probably it shouldn't be why it's the best kept secret out there but uh the board will have an opportunity and our district will have an opportunity at these summits to be recognized by marzano institute for our work in this and i'd encourage as many as can attend to attend that summit um
january january sage rs summit hrs [Music] yeah so anyway we'll give you more information but again congratulations thank you very grateful for all the hard work everyone has put into this okay now down to our teacher of the years madam chair members of the board um this is something we take great pride in our district selects a district teacher of the year every year we get nominees from various ways students can actually nominate nominate their teachers teachers can nominate other teachers administrators can nominate teachers we take those nominations we talk about them as a district selection team and then we select a district teacher of the year to introduce our district teacher of the year i'm going to turn the time over to principal driscoll madam chair members of the board um i am fortunate
enough i am rick o'driscoll uh principal at davis middle school i was fortunate enough to come in i've worked with gina now for was it seven years this is a seventh year she is without a doubt even though she doesn't like me to say these things she is somebody that i can depend on all the time and more important than anything she cares more about kids than anybody i know and if i had some of our team here they could talk to you about the times that we've spent with tough kids and had parents there with us and even though we're having tough conversations those parents walk away knowing that their kid is cared for and gina is part of that so this is gina martin under county school district one teacher of the year
speech you guys see the caliber we have here i don't put myself here at all we have an amazing team at davis middle school i work on an incredible iep team that because they do what they do i can do what i do and love kids so thank you very much okay now onto our discussion items first item for discussion is our pathway to excellent our board and district goals and communication plans i know i have it somewhere there it is a man of chair members of the board i did promise to bring this back this month just a quick update he did um hopefully that helps you see it a little better we did update our did update our district goals and then really i can't i'm really proud of how our team works
notice how many times gina used the word team we are a team even our administrators use this plc process of collaborative teams to develop these goals and they're just not willy-nilly i don't know how it's to call them they are specific and it drives the work you can see the board goals high reliability schools the communication plan i did update the communication plan which included the plc presentation you have each board meeting will have a couple plc's present so you can actually see the teachers hear hear them the work they're doing um because that's truly where the work is getting done this is driven by our teachers up instead of administrators down and it is truly a collaborative effort so you can see accountability achievement is still one of our number one goals our expectation
is that all of our schools meet or exceed the state accountability requirements in addition all schools and grade levels currently at or above the state average will increase by five percent and those below the state average will increase to the state average or at least five percent which is ever greater by the end of the spring 2023 we still have opportunities for growth and our expectations from our administrators is that we are going to vote it's interesting the greater your achievement the harder it is to grow five percent and that's the expectation instruction we will continue the hrs requirement level three by spring 2024 to ensure a guaranteed viable curriculum and one thing that you can see if if you ever get time and i'd love to take you is you can walk into a
third grade team like just presented and walk in at any time and you'll see all four of those third grade teachers teaching the same lesson at the same time using the same manipulatives that's what a guaranteed and viable curriculum is the kids are getting what they need and viable in terms of their time to learn it so there's no way to teach all the standards so we have those standards identified by the grade level teams the priority standards and then how will they know that the kids have made them so again exceptional attendance attendance is still a priority it'll always be a priority with me but decrease the number of chronically or severe absent students by 10 from year to year spring 2020 what was that percentage at the close of last year um you
guys remember i know it's mid-90s yeah our attendance is very good but the number of chronic or severely chronic kids is significant i think it's i think we had 45 kids did when do you dang it wendy has those numbers but uh it's still a significant number remember they referenced tier one tier two and tier three students tier three students would be the severe absent students tier two is the chronically absent that's what we're targeting our efforts we still have pretty good attendance but attendance impacts those kids learning drastically so that's where our goal is so let's see behavior um by the end of the 2022-23 school year classroom behavior office referrals will be decreased by five percent from last year's number uh and this deals with swiss documentation that's the system we use to
document our behavior and we'll check that end of quarter one two and three again i'm really proud that we're going to emphasize classroom behaviors what's expected of our students and the teachers responsibility to hold kids accountable hold parents accountable to that i think as a measure we'll see these numbers come down one of the expectations was clear to our staff um probably for forever the last 30 years that i can remember there is an expectation for behavior in the classroom that the first incident the teacher has a conference with that student explains the behavior and then explains what happened if the behavior occurs again if it does occur again the second time is a parent teacher conference we expect our teachers to contact the parents and state the behavior that's occurring and what will happen
if it occurs again if it occurs the third time then it becomes an office referral that's why you can see that that's being mentioned in there is we want to decrease those we believe by our teachers being committed to calling parents about inappropriate behaviors in the classroom we'll see a decrease we've emphasized instruction for so long we got away from that commitment that our teachers are calling parents when students are behaving inappropriately and hopefully the smart ones will call when students are behaving appropriately so they get positive comments too so i got a question on that yes so as as part of the third refute referral now is that per kid or is that per teacher so if we have seven class periods if it is an individual teacher and they write a referral he
gets three times if it is a second teacher he has three referrals no no so he if it is a third time from any of the teachers then okay now the challenge with that is the expectation now this is classroom behaviors okay so maybe i need to go back and say this is occurring in my classroom so regardless if you're a k-12 teacher you're dealing with that if you're targeting to my class that's a discipline potential i meet with you the first time second time i call your parents third time it's an office referral the i think the benefit the middle schools have is they meet as a team every day um they can talk about the behaviors they're seeing and the calls they have to make and hopefully we won't have nine or fifteen
episodes before a student has a consequence okay um i'm not sure if i heard that right but no it isn't it's three in that particular class yes so three in that particular class so he can misbehave up to three times in each one of the classes okay here you go um also added this year to make that a little better than what you're what you're thinking is that i uh we decided that we would have six um accumulated in that class of different types tardy absences etc and then it would be turned over to the administrators too so remember the question there is classroom behaviors so if you have a student behaving poorly in five classes they should get five calls from five different teachers but those are classroom consequences as soon as it gets
to the office referrals those get immediate consequences so you won't end up with 15 before you get one yeah that's the key on this is you're not going to have just one teacher that calls all the teachers should call if that behavior is being repeated in their classroom typically yes they're being repeated in the classroom so especially you know those that deal with lack of respect you ever have a time where teachers just so overwhelmed with preparation and managing the classroom that they don't have the time to be able to do that if that's the case do they ever go and just ask for the dean of students to take care of this year yes what we have is we have what's called the severe clause again these are classroom behaviors which would be mostly
respect yourself respect the teacher follow the teachers directions immediately no dangerous activities if you deal with the law if you break the law you'll deal with the law those are typically our classroom behaviors if you pick a fight in the classroom that's an immediate referral to the office if you are insubordinate that's an immediate referral to the office expectation is students follow teachers directions immediately i'll be honest those are going to be some high challenges for some kids because that has not happened and we have to maintain that level that commitment to our kids and to our teachers our teachers take way too much and that was my message not only to our principals but to our teachers is you need to follow this before it drives you out of this profession yeah and get
some help truly on the third time you have an offense in your classroom you're going to have someone helping you we have added behavior experts to our district to support these kids with chronic behavior we no longer should have a kid that has 15 major referrals continuing to go to class we should have something some intervention before that occurs this is a new focus on these classroom rules and teachers doing what we say we're going to do in our handbooks and the principles doing what we say we're going to do on our handbooks when they come to them they'll have to take action and i've already played it out to our teachers if not give me a call do you think it would be too stringent to say you know if if teacher one uh
gets two has two referrals on one student and teacher two has one referral on the same student and teacher three i mean you know what i mean it's it seems to me that that by with what he just said that we are actually stretching out you know this particular student and trying to nip it in the bud before it gets out of hand it seems to me that the way it's set up and the way he just described it that that's what we're doing instead of you know three referrals doesn't matter where it comes from three referrals is three referrals and nip in the bud before it gets out of hand and it could be it could be a safety issue to the other students hopefully the structure of our middle schools six eight schools
they meet every day and if they're having behavior issues they need to talk about it because like i said they're not in isolation and they work together and they they do a good job um we have added again we have adena students that splits half time both for our middle schools and that's the function is to follow these discipline plans and it'll be interesting to see if we do see a marked decrease in referrals but you're talking about something that has been an issue in schools forever typically five percent of the students cost 95 percent of problems and so if you can identify them in teams especially 6 12 you don't really have that luxury at high school because you are more of an island as a social science teacher you may be the only
social studies teacher working with this kid the english teacher may be having the same problem it's very rare that those two teachers get together and talk at our middle schools they talk every day so hopefully again we get better at that we see less behaviors typically chronic behavior kids when they get to the high school you know that the number they become dropouts because they can't follow directions we work with those kids we try to manage monitor their behavior modify their behavior sometimes we're not successful but to have high expectations is really what we put on the goals so i won't spend much more time on the pathway to excellence again it is something that i think we need to hold up and show that we do have high expectations for achievement for behavior for
communication um i have updated the communication plan to include like i said the plc reports instead of school reports we'll do that this year to see how that goes hopefully you'll actually see a lot more teachers and get to learn who they are faces with names okay great any questions about that you you are scheduled to approve this tonight okay so maya can i can i push on you how is the behavior in high school and students um from what i see that's kind of half and half i know some that are good and others so you're okay with percent yeah you're okay with typing up some of the games yeah especially from last year from what i've seen um that was the worst year i've seen and i'm kind of pushing for like spider
school just i know that school's only been in for a week or two is there sometimes peer pressure from some students to other ones that you know like dude knock it off you know that you know what i mean sometimes those type of conversations from the older uh students like the seniors um like because freshmen they don't know what to do it's their first year here so you know they'll just do whatever uh seem cool and follow peer pressure but yeah well i've seen all their older students have kind of told them knock it off kind of clean it up a little bit that's all we have thank you okay thank you thank you okay down to our next item which is the wsba hall roundup in green river just again to invite you to
attend that that is on the 21st yes and we'll be leaving from here at 4 30am and i think dan said you could attend yes john that's wednesday david cassidy yes not for sure okay conflict i might have a conflict as well i don't know what's the 21st of this one yes and it's in green river so we drive you over 4 30 what's the dress suit tie professional business professional shorts shorts with a tie yeah um i'll commit to that okay okay great thank you okay next item is the k factorial stadium ribbon cutting schedule merle do you want to come up and tell me explain kind of what we've done with ribbon cutting dan's very well aware of this too he's been a part of this and i think david too a little
bit but we are planning to do a ribbon cutting for a new field and track on the 22nd thursday of september 23rd is the first home game but because of the parade and homecoming we just don't think we can squeeze it in so thursday night prior to the pep assembly is when we'll do the ribbon cutting and all nine of you are a big part of that so we'd like to have you all there you will be recognized as well as those who donated to the project as well as those who have contributed in other ways um will the contractors be there or the yes they are invited okay so you have kind of a tiered system it's that way to say it those who actually have donated funds to this those who actually we
have paid but have done great work we want to recognize those partners some partners kind of the way that i see this happening is make it especially this time part of our um what we call it a hall of fame so the hall of fame candidates will be recognized and they'll help cut the ribbon and if you're familiar with who's on the hall of fame impressive group um two of our staff members are on the hall of fame so they'll be part of that ribbon cutting and we'd like you guys right there with them so that is at 7 30. i think 7 30 because there is a jv game at ems yeah before so okay is that right inside the assembly when right after afterwards okay so you do the ribbon cutting and the
pep sample is going to be right at eight-ish so lights on so at 7 30 we're going to do the ribbon cutting ceremony or as soon as we can get started it could be 7 40. we'll do the ribbon cutting it'll be followed by the pep assembly followed by fireworks by porters so it's going to be a pretty cool evening so so we're planning around 20 to 30 minutes for the ribbon cutting ceremony we would like all of you there so if you can make that happen that would be great i'd recommend that the newspaper publish this particular event as well yeah so that the community can be involved and we'll actually have flyers putting together flyers so maya and i are working on we just talked about before this meeting that we're going to
get all the flyer exactly how we want it with all the information and then we'll broadcast it everywhere yeah so everybody putting around the front page yeah so somewhere i have two questions for you um so on the um homecoming poll that you put out did they ever get that working yes okay because mine didn't work i can't even get it to work the second time so so 72 percent of the parents wanted to have the dance on saturday night and so we're gonna do it on saturday night and then we're let i'm letting student council decide what kind of dance they wanted and they did a survey with kids and it maya said i just asked him before and he said that it will be a formal dance so basically the same thing just
it'll be on saturday night at eight o'clock so okay and then i don't know if this is the time or place to do this maybe i should have suggested this last month before we got the ribbon cutting set but i wanted to propose possibly leaving at cave aqua stadium but naming the field after searle brothers i know there's a lot of people that donated i know cardwell you know maybe we could do something with them with the press box and then have a plaque with everyone else that donate it but i think we should rename the field itself after searle brothers there's no name of the field right now the stadium itself is named after k factorial which i wouldn't change no name on the field there's no name on the field there's a lot
of people you know and i granted they did donate a lot of time and stuff to that but but to go down that road i don't know if that's the road we want to go down does that make sense i don't think we named it build after them i think we can put a plaque up to the time and effort that they put into it but there's other people but to actually put their name on it i don't know if that's the place well i mean is it arguable that cyril brothers didn't donate the most time and i know but what do you put a value into that that's what i'm saying i really appreciate it and i do i mean i grew up with stoney and raymond you know i i i really do
and i really appreciate it dog is a great friend of mine i understand that but um i think there's there's a limit to what we we name and to go down that road i don't know if we want to name that searle brothers you know i don't know what anybody else thinks i i jenny i think we can address that through the hall of fame okay yeah and and i think uh uh do we we can work something with that and i i feel like david um if we want to and everybody's had opinions if you know they have a logo you know if we wanted to display that someplace in the stadium or something okay um and i i don't know how jared you may know i i don't know how easy it would
be to come back and add something to the field well i i wasn't talking about going that far i just was meaning you know like you hear a lot of when they announced sure like jonah jonah memorial after somebody and so that i thought that would be the easiest thing to recognize my experience has been the fields have been generally named after uh prominent coaches of that institution or you know somewhere along that line you know i mean you go to arizona and you look at the basketball court it's called luton bobby olson well and that's that's where we got k factorial stadium from and yeah so yeah um i was just thinking that would be a good way to recognize that because they really did we're going to try and really distinguish the difference
between those that donated those that worked and and then we're also going to have those that made it happen and that's you guys are in that part so those are the things we want to recognize the business that's behind these individuals and just like the trident out front of the high school has those plaques that's something that we look forward to so jared and i listened to this dude jiren and i and bubba we actually met for a few minutes it was an impromptu meeting but we talked about where to put the plaque and that we've got the plaque for the scoreboard right underneath it and we think that would be an appropriate place to actually have both of them right there and so we actually talked about making them look similar but being able
to identify some of those key people that donated so much and did so much for the project but no that we need to recognize that i really do and don't get me wrong i mean but to name the complete stadium after that i think that's a little stretch for for for this you know so that's uh just my opinion i guess the board can decide what they want to do but um a lot of people in our past i mean why not name it jerry parkerfield you know our stadium you know i mean there's there's a lot of prominent people that were here and great coaches and did some phenomenal things that well they were just a a very integral part of this happening it was really it wouldn't have happened without them no i
i agree i mean there's some of the other things that happened that yeah we could have done it it would have made it a lot more difficult but without searle brothers doing what they did this wouldn't have happened at least not right now and it would have been difficult without jerry i mean without mike dexter so i mean where do we go where do we end so i mean we need to recognize him i agree but to go down that road and to completely name a stadium after him i don't think we're not going to just defend the field don't i don't we don't want to change out there i don't want to change the field i i know even if you want to put a placard up there or whatever and cyril brothers but
there's a lot of people that contributed too so well right but you get what i'm saying no i know i i do know and i think we're going to take care of that okay okay any other on that okay let's go ahead and move on to our policy co-curricular and interscholastic activities igb and igdr madam chair members of the board i'm just going to talk very little about igd but i'm going to talk a little about some other policies we started this conversation well probably i was going to say six eight years ago but we did kind of started officially last month and i did mention i was asked to look at apology policy igd the reason why we turned to policy igd is because it's the one that deals with activities and travel but
there are some other policies i would like to read probably starting with the most recent this was this was modified in 2015 this is policy i-g-d-j-a national travel activities that are sanctioned by wyoming high school activities association shall be allowed to attend national competitions if such an event exists for that activity travel for national competition shall be allowed for up to six students and one sponsor sponsors shall be supported by extra district financial support up to 750 per person sponsors and students additional financial support may be requested and granted if funds are available for extra students national travel will be allowed only for students in grades 9 through 12 and only for co-curricular activities and not athletics activities that are not sanctioned by wyoming high school activities association so i'll register with you in a
county school district number one office who will certify that national competitions for activities exist these activities must register and be sanctioned by october 1st every year to be eligible for national travel all of these district sanction activities will be put on a list allowing district financial support for national competitions every three years i think that's where some of our groups have gotten the idea that every three years they can go on a national trip these activities may not smoke these activities these activities may intend national competition in years not supported by district funds but all expenses will be the responsibility of the sponsoring activity in sponsored years travels for national competition shall be allowed up to six students and one sponsor and shall be supported by extra district financial support of 750 per person national
travel will not be allowed for st will only be allowed for students grades 9 12. the reason why i bring this up is if you remember if you were here i was in 2015 we started having a lot of qualified events for non-wyoming high school activities sponsored activities robotics was the one and it got to the point where you could have a qualifying event for a national competition but the qualifying event was between you and one other school district in wyoming one event qualified for nationals and we had multiple kids to qualify again we couldn't afford it and the club couldn't afford it that's why we set the limit at six i don't think it was ever targeted toward athletics which are sponsored by high school activities including cheer and dance um but it's there
and i think that was maybe one of the latest shots that um you need to be careful with national travel probably the biggest policy has the biggest impact on our concerns that were discussed last month is student fundraising activities igdf and i'm not going to go through all of them in general the board wishes appropriate controls to be placed on fundraising in the community by students in school activities this was passed in 2020 just recently fundraising types of fundraising are allowed fundraising has been approved by the building principal and is linked to a school activity or club two sell of tickets to schedule athletic events and school drama and musical performances we do not collect money for our athletics there are some events that we collect money for drama collects money as a further agent
sell of advertising spaces and school publications which we do on a limited basis fundraising activities this is for fundraising activities included in a charter from a parent or community organization so if they put it in a charter we'll support it five proposals to raise funds for charitable purposes or to benefit to or of benefit to the school or community proposals must be approved by the building principles and spent in the school year the funds were raised six fundraising for an activity or club travel or lodging should be equitably equitably distributed between students participating in the fundraiser students are not allowed to solicit doors doors seven so what we get with fundraising is the expectation that i see is that i believe they need to be spent in the year they're raised and they need to
be distributed equally between the students participating in the fundraisers so with those um i'll show you the proposed changes to policy igd i don't know if it'll accomplish what you want to accomplish we've read through this policy last month so i'm not going to take the time to read through the policy so really this is just cleaning up a policy that already exists so here i'm just taking out the coach your sponsor the activities office shall endeavor to seek clean and affordable accommodations it's our activities office that makes arrangements uh when coaches we've had horrible situations when coaches and sponsors trying to do that has to me through the activity report this is one that you guys will have to decide on the expectation and this is hitting co-curricular and school endorsed activities so you
can stretch that to activities outside of wyoming high school activities sponsored events it does say in here and you're already aware of it that it has to be a qualifying event to attend so state are there some qualifying events that our kids qualify for and then go to nationals yes fbla deca and we support those if they're sponsors a different gender we were to spouse to go to but they have to be qualified events so in this one all i'm changing is the cost of travel lodging and mail shall be the responsibility of the participating students it takes the the club out of it um and that's been one of the concern of the board is that these fundraisers and these trips are extremely expensive and uh that's just only one concern and we can
talk about all the concerns that's been expressed by the board for me the biggest one is loss of school time um typically the kids in our activities are some of our best students but still there's lots of school time liability to the school district which is ever increasing people are a little more litigious than they have been in the past the idea that you have someone that raises funds one year and those funds may not be used for three years later that's a concern fundraising in the name of evanston high school and these trips truly are typically activities outside of wyoming high school activities association that i don't have a problem with going to attending but maybe they need to pay for them on their own it would be less entanglements for the school district
we have events that do go in june and july not even involved with the school district and they're pretty good events they go to state capitol they go to new york our art club typically went to new york in the past we always do that outside of school there is very little entanglements with that we do require that they travel on our transportation and if we have to help them we help them because still we need to avoid as much legal issues as possible so would it be taken out the possibility everybody's financial status is different um is it just taking out the possibility for for maybe kids or families that don't have that financial ability for them to go yeah each of these requests have is that what it does though yeah number six
no shooting shall no student shall be deprived of participating in organizations to any extracurricular activity because of his inability to pay the fees or expenses involved the building principles sell sheet to ensure that such students can participate that's actually what happened and why we created the policy about national travel is because it got to the point where it was a burden on the activities department to pay for those but they were school sponsored events we needed to pay so we had to limit it but if the group was raising funds from the community doesn't it take us out of it in the sense we're they're raising funds in our name yeah in the high school's name and the amenity county school district's name and even that the expectation of monitoring those over one year or
two year period i don't know how you do that how do you how do you equitably definitely distribute those funds to someone that didn't participate in the fundraiser this year last year two years ago or three years ago that's who's getting these funds and it's been expressed multiple times that funds are being raised i think with the understanding that's to benefit that group that year because that's what we've set up booster clubs to represent they help pay for meals on weight trips we pay for everything housing lodging travel we expect athletes to pay for their meals on these trips um that can be a burden so we make sure it's not at culminating events like boosters cover that with the football team for sure right that's what i think people think they're donating to exactly
and it's a big bill for large groups that's why they do it um yeah so if we if we say you know whatever monies are raised it's got to be spent by the end of the year what do you do with you know what about this ten thousand dollars that's left over what do you do with that student that doesn't complete the whole year yeah it's not different than saying i don't know what it is so your question typically if the booster starts with the balance the expectation would be they end with the similar boundaries so yeah i was a booster parent we started with 3 500 after the year we provided meals for away trips some equipment supported the coach and some equipment and then we left with 3 500 in the balance at
the end of the year that also pays for the end of the year what do we call banquets that's what the fundraising is possibly for to maybe up what you do in those banquets so hopefully you don't drain the account the big question for me is what do we do with these organizations that have large balances now and those that don't have large balances typically the smaller groups don't have they have the same need but they don't have the same ability to raise funds and they may not have a banquet yes but they all have banquets okay and don't they all have that they do at different levels obviously some have extravagant banquets and uh some have uh social don't discredit the kids they're if they're if they're collecting thousands of dollars or tens of
thousands of dollars somebody's putting in the work like well but i think the problem is and that's what we've talked about before is that like ryan said kids go out and they fundraise and most of the community members are under the understanding that this is going to benefit the students in helping them pay for meals if they need you know like basketball warm-ups or you know whatever it is that it's going to benefit the team for that year it's not under the assumption that oh we're going to take twenty thousand dollars that we fundraise for and go on a trip to disneyland or you know whatever it is i just think i've heard enough from community members that they're tired of being taxed by the same activities groups just fundraiser after fundraiser after fundraiser and
they want to support those student athletes and those activities but it's getting to be too much and then when you say oh well this activity is going to disneyland um we get a lot of complaints it's got to stop some questions asked what do they do with their large balances spend them down yeah can maybe not raise funds this year can some of the fun one club be moved to another club i don't think you can take it away about let's put all fundraising into a pool and then they draw from the pool some districts do that in the country you would lose a lot of the hard work yeah i understand go ahead john as a fiduciary fund we have had in in previous years one booster club has given to another i'm thinking
of one one of the swim clubs booster clubs gave to another but the question really is is who owns these funds they are owned by the booster clubs they are not owned by the board the board can't say hey we're going to consolidate it to a need now to an e-program that's what i'd heard you know kind of an all booster organization now it's not to say that we can't encourage boosters to do so but they have to have those presidents those booster clubs say okay we're going to make a donation to another needy booster so that's where you get into the weeds policy igd does not say you can't go on a national trip i think it does say it has to be a qualifying event that's where you get into the discussion well
we qualified because of what we did at state well if it's not a wyoming high school activity qualifying event for a national thing we shouldn't be attending and that's where we've got into the weeds because then it gets into this argument of the board is going to have to decide we we're not controlling the fundraising expectations but our policy is pretty clear don't go door they do because they're going business to business um all we can really do is set a policy and say please do not violate this but what do we do if they do violate we don't take their money because it's not our money and that's where this really gets hazy if the board wants to end this argument they need to add a statement in these policies that say no national
trips that in each club needs to have a charter and bylaws yes period they need to it's in the policy i don't i don't want to go down that road about no national trips yeah you know there's so many kids math accounts probably this document like can you scroll all the way up what's that just scroll all the way up ah hold up no all so all the way sorry it was all right at the beginning keep the beginning document yeah pretty sure right there that first paragraph like let's not lose sight of this first paragraph it's really important for these kids to to raise the money it's good for them to get out there to have conversations with people to have interactions a lot of these a lot of these a lot of these
students are extremely shy it builds a lot of um it built it builds it builds a person but then having something to shoot for a goal and then being involved in these extracurricular activities is huge we don't want to i don't want to squash that in any way so we're not saying that i think what we're saying is go out there and do the fundraising and go out there and do it but it has to be spent within that year it's these extravagant extravagant trips that keep growing year after year after year so there's organizations and i'm going to bring this up if the organization has cuts you have kids that come in as a freshman and they are on the team rather than the program and they do the fundraising are they allowed to
go on that trip in three years about the ones that transfer schools are they allowed to go no i mean that's a ridiculous question well of course they're not but they were involved with the fundraising yeah that that's that that's a bummer yeah that's that's exactly that's how things work yeah yeah not everybody gets to go well i think that the clubs need to understand what the rules are when they get into this as to what's about or what's not allowed and believe me what you're saying i agree with i think activities and i mean it's great i didn't do that when i was in high school i mean i was deca but you know went to phoenix arizona you know that was okay but the thing is though is and i understand it's important
but there's still there's still lines that you can't cross [Music] and in my opinion that's why i see the challenge to this is because we're all here because we support academics we support athletics we support all kind of activities we want to do that but there has to be some limit because of it's almost unfair competition for some groups who take that on they have the ability to do that and i would say what we provide on a normal wyoming high school activity is already pretty special what we allow these kids going the step further is really what we're talking about you can go to state and you can win state that's the culminating event if you want to go to a competition with that group then go to go with your own money and
go after schools out because you are no longer that club your club's done that's so hard all through the summer they're still a part of that club when is when is the vote on this going to take place particularly not tonight i hope um really all you're voting on is cleaning this up you're not voting on anyone going anywhere no it just that's coming because i've had a discussion there is a group that would like to go to a national competition which is not part of wyoming high school activities association they do have they have raised funds for the last three years this would be the fourth year um it's not enough money to send the number of participants they have and that's where you get into these questions is who doesn't get to go
well and where do you draw the line it's like basketball so my all of my children have participated in basketball every summer they go to usually at least two camps i as a parent have had to fork out that money sure it would be great to take some of that booster money and pay for all the kids so that their parents didn't have to fork that money out i had to buy two pairs of high top basketball shoes at 80 bucks a pair i forked out that money the fundraising should go for exactly what you just said helping to pay for extra meals so they're not having to put that extra money out if they need equipment i do realize that there's some activities that cost more than others football for example their stuff costs
more than a basketball player's stuff does i just think we need we've got to draw the line somewhere and unfortunately that's you guys right um and that's typically what's happened and i believe trustee cox knows exactly these are well motivated talented intelligent plans set out um and they're they're fantastic but again as the school district we can't do the same for the football team we can't do the same for the swim team but we're not restricting the football team we're not telling we can't go raise funds we've never done that we haven't restricted anyone from going and raising funds but a lot of community members are under the impression that those funds are going to be spent to benefit the team during that year not that it's going to pay for a trip two years
from now yeah for an individual that's the other part is you're not necessarily supporting the team you're supporting an individual so again it's not an easy there's not an easy answer i mean because money doesn't go just to one individual there's not like individual accounts that i know of on any of the boosters but not that i know all the boosters the money is paying for an individual's ticket cool yeah you know and the thing is they have to understand we're not saying that they can't do these things right yeah i mean that you you raise your funds it's getting the if you want to go during the summer time if you want to go over christmas break or you want to do something that is not a school sponsored or us taking on the
liability and you have parents that want to go we have no control or say over that that's i mean that's that's you guys and the booster and the and and the activity it's just the timing of everything and the um i want release time i want to take four or five days off and excuse our kids to go down to an event we're not saying that that is that's not us saying that you can't do in wild times off but to excuse 30 kids to go to a national event for four days is is an issue when the national event is typically one of those four days yes yeah yeah we could set guidelines we could say you need to be a whatever point student for hire we could we could say stuff like that
there's a fair amount of these kids that we're discussing that are extremely high achievers they could skip 20 days a year and still be in your like three nine and above category so we're not saying they're not struggling if we felt more comfortable with that which would be fine given given at least a goal but i just don't want to say no but well the lord hasn't wanted to say no because they want to encourage these kids but it keeps perpetuating year after well every four years every three years but it's not just this program no it's not that's the thing it's not just this program it is all programs we've allowed at one point no middle school overnight activities for lots of reasons well we've had individuals come and we've approved those our policies
very clear no overnight activities for anyone set 9-12 so it's an exception the board can make that is the challenge of this it is hard to say no when the kids and the parents come and request something that you would love to see and participate in so the only way you're going to answer the question is have a black and white rule and i'm opposed to a black and white white rule because there are certain things we'd like our kids to participate in i would love to see them go but i'd love to see them go when they don't involve the entanglement of the high school or you win the county school district how much liability can we accept how are we willing to accept maybe the answer well well it's pretty clear if it's
not a wyoming high school activities event then you know go but we can choose to say yes sir no you can't absolutely yeah but it would have to be brought before the board on an individual case-by-case basis and that's just the way it is and you know you got to put your big boy pants on and you got to decide and then i think the encouragement is we encourage them to use their funds the way they want to use them when it doesn't involve school plan yep then they're on their own they can do whatever they want with their funds and it's got to be a qualifying event moving forward i think we need to emphasize you have to spend the funds in the year they're raised and we need to put it in policy
because right now we're interpreting it that way but it is not there because it's something that that's what we want to have the expectation it needs to go so that would be policy igdf because even that fight is clouded by the idea of charitable purposes that was never the intent of just charitable purposes it was fundraising in general but we do some great fundraisings for several really cool charitable events but i've never known student council does um make a wish they've done that in the past they don't carry those funds over they disperse them donate them immediately um so i would i would so based on what you uh what you just stated i would recommend that maybe we clean that up a little bit but i would recommend highly uh that we don't look
at this a month from now that we maybe adjourn the board you know in a week or two at noon on some specific data to approve or disapprove it you know what i mean i mean because it's this is this this is a serious topic that we're talking about and it's and i think it's prudent for us to make the decision on what we're going to do and make it as soon as possible so people aren't hanging in the wind you know waiting for the board to decide you know that's just my recommendation and what i've encouraged the group that's the king of sending a national event is follow the policy put it on we have a trip request form fill it out make sure you are specific we'd have some in the past that
said yeah we'd like to go between this time period it's very clear if you are interrupting white cast white top which one is it my top um act we say no because that is something that you can't make up so we need to know those dates the board also needs to look at what the per participant cost is because i think it's potentially prohibited there too and if someone can't pay if they have to pay beyond what has been fundraised how much are you willing to donate out of other student activity accounts those are questions that will need to be answered when someone but i think by doing that though we've already set a precedent with the group last year that wanted to do the same thing and we basically told them not again we're
not doing this again and i don't think we should say and put it out there that oh we'll look on we'll look at each of them on a case-by-case basis we can't do that we can't favor one and then not allow someone else to do it so either we let them all do it or we don't do it at all we can say that we have not approved any trips this year yeah no so again it's a it's a tough question the reason why we're talking about it is because every time this comes up you as a board come to me and say hey just don't want to bounce into this the only way you're not going to bounce into it if you just say a policy is no well i mean high school activities
only to get that set of that do it it's challenging because for example horizon takes their kids to southern utah it's not an activities group it's a co-curricular school and it's beyond the 350 mile radius too yeah and that requires board proof because it's overnight multiple nights so those are kind of things i don't think the board wants to stop at all those are some of the and they come back and report some of the neatest things that verizon has done thank goodness or think again coleman blank cover those were stopped but those are things we do not want to prevent and they're not wyoming high school activity sponsor that's why policy igd is a pretty good policy okay the trip policy is actually a pretty good policy 350 miles round trip would cut out
any trip to california toward yeah if you just fall down and then the only way to make an exception is to come before the board but gosh we sure don't want to do something that's gonna you know stop people from enrolling in these groups they're not going to have that oh in three or four years if i'm a part of this group and i work really hard i get to partake in this or i get to go to florida for a national competition that's whatever the case may be to disneyland as you've spoken of before um to i think it was maybe dramatic speech somebody would say disneyland once and enacted or participated in it wasn't just to go and do you want ride have the kids pull back out of these activities they're smart
believe it or not they'll be like oh i don't get to go but i i don't think that that's going to be an issue i don't either i think if you want to be a basketball player and you want to be part of that team then you're going to put your effort into that if you want to play football you don't need to be bribed with a trip at the end of the year those kids that want to participate are going to do it anyway whether they've got a trip planned or and if they don't then that's their that's their problem sorry i i don't and again you guys the complexity of this you can see i mean no one wants to tell our groups no so tonight we just need to approve these changes
yes yeah the one that probably needs discussed is the one that deals with that's the idea of the activities office i think we just have to do the activities office makes arrangements for hotel rooms not coaches and sponsors this one potentially controversy for co-curricular activities the expectation is if they want to go they can go but they pay the students participating students pay so it's not a fundraising issue so this would be um again co-curriculum potentially is since it's not wyoming high school activity anything that's not a wyoming high school event so state drama is wyoming high school activities we pay all that stuff but anything outside of that where they're if they're outside 350 miles you can say no that's been one issue is you can find similar training in utah you don't need
to go to disneyland to get that train again they're different but again that's been the argument all of that is really kind of up to the board this does basically say if you want to go kids are going to pay for it which might be limiting to some kids exactly but it's like we've talked about the culminating event for most if not all activities is their state event i mean that's what that's what most of your athletic teams are working towards the end of the year is that state state event unless there's a national qualifying event which is robotics well there's very few though there are some but there are very few right deck and fbla maybe speech and debate because they they say music yeah there are but those are common questions but those
are individuals right yeah not teams not teachers and that's written in the policy pretty well the idea um again we try to take care of that you could emphasize that again this policy does say if you can't attend if you qualify and you can't pay we've worked it out i mean we have funds available but again how many can we do that forward the removal of theory of action that is not language we use anymore so it just didn't make sense so educational purpose is again you can see there that's the eligibility all students traveling to these events must be students in good standing as identified building principal or classroom teachers there is emergency form completed but you guys know we have jeff here you can't sign away the liability of an 18 year old
or younger you can't sign them away we're still responsible for them three was added in there because of the idea is if you are drama is the perfect example if you are on the state drama team and you want to go to an event after state drama it should be the state drama kids that go not everyone in that class that's right and you might even not even been on the state drama team and then go it's not again an example is anyone who tries out for the basketball team and his cut they don't get to go to the state competition only those who make the team go that's true and that's why that was put in there is to clarify for our principles that only those that are participating go even that's a little
cloudy for some groups so i think the changes to these policies is it's it's pretty much cut and dried the way that it is and you know we can vote on it um and make a decision and then continue the rest of the conversation and it's coming yep sure and so we're here if we do want to modify the fundraiser policy we can modify that too would you like me to bring some draft proposals next month yes yes yes okay i'll do that um guidance on that one section do you want to take out groups and just leave it at students or do you want to take that change all the way up where is it where are you right there right there the console travel login level for just leave it like that okay
that's fine it will be up for approval in the action items okay okay okay let's go ahead and move on if everybody's all right with that okay so let's go to policy administrating administering medicines to students jhcd this is going to be much more straightforward now we have some people wanting to talk about that and i and i have questions as well for the meeting we did cheer for us uh madam chair members of the board um i'm going to talk very little other than to introduce megan kennedy she's our school nurse at the high school and then tiffany winley she covers nursing at evanston middle school and davis middle school and we're so we're going to be looking at policy jhcd i do think it's a little less than what you guys just uh
conversed about but um but i think so so i'm going to turn the time over to uh tiffany megan just to kind of talk to you very briefly about the uh what we have had and the proposed changes just as a discussion item so currently we have the policy set up to where we can't administer ibuprofen or tylenol at our discretion the valley allows that and what i think it would do is keep our students in the school what happens if a student has a headache or a sore throat and they could stay with some ibuprofen and tylenol they call home and mom or dad says i'm just gonna come get you so our goal would be for in powerschool when the student registers to be able to click yes or no i would allow
at the nurse's discretion to administer these for the student's body weight in turn the student would be able to stay so is that done before school starts or maybe throughout the day or oh [Applause] okay but currently we can't understand this and then a lot of kids are going wild yeah yes we'd like to be able to give tylenol ibuprofen benadryl in case of a an allergic reaction maybe some cough drops tums those are going to be clearly defined what medications are going to be okay it doesn't specifically say in the policy i don't think i mean is that something that we should have in our minds oh 100 yes we would fine-tune it to the ibuprofen tylenol benadryl and cough drops and at our discretion right if we don't feel like a student needs
it we'll figure out another remedy to try to get them to stay i need any thoughts in there for allergies i know some kids are allergic to ibuprofen tylenol is that something that allergies has done during power school and that i just i just have one question mr phillips says you know does this seem like a prudent thing to allow i think from a legal point of view i think we're probably okay um i did read the state board of nursing puts out alternative like what to do with as a nurse in alternative settings it says it's okay in a school as long as it's provided by the board and the board policy says it's okay are you getting darren i personally love it because i don't want to drive 30 miles to pick up
my kid i hate sending students home if i don't have to so but i've got a lot of parents they're like if i'm just going to come bring you ibuprofen or tylenol i just might as well take you home now and it's like let them stay the key is parent approval sure not that yeah as long as they mark that box yeah okay so i don't know what our plan would i don't know if we would do a phone call for this year until registration hits next year with powerschool but um that's something we could entertain it's just one thing i'd encourage is as a you call a parent just click it on powerschool foreign make sure it is recorded oh yeah nurses over record everything yeah and then next registration would encourage all parents
would see this so we would have these medications available at each one of our schools k through 12 yep age appropriate [Music] just a little history of this what typically happens kids take medication to school with them which is against their own policy yeah um and we've had individuals that have administered friends without any kind of permission and it's backfired so this is a much more prudent way to deal with it through our nurses and keeping track of who's doing what with what well and just better monitored right and this is grades what through what k through 12. okay i have no i have another question on this it says any medication administered cannot exceed the recommended dosage time interval or directions listed on the container unless specifically ordered in writing by a licensed medical
practitioner or in accordance with weight-based dosage recommendations my question is is if we say or in accordance with weight based dosage recommendations are we then telling the medical practitioner who created that prescription are we telling them sorry we're going to go by what we understand his weight the prescription would trump the bottle oh okay yeah so this is just for over-the-counter measures yeah okay well then my question is then medication because ibuprofen you can have two 200 milligram tablets if a physician wants them to have 600 or 800 milligrams we would need a physician's note we can't go beyond what the bottle the over-the-counter bottle says right so which usually two will suffice to at least take it from a 10. thank you see we were easier you guys can stick around if you want
sure sure i'm fast okay our next item for discussion is our coalition of wyoming schools manager members of the board as you're aware we joined the coalition last month so we are brand new exactly what you want to call it part of the coalition since then the wyoming education association at wa actually filed suit against the state fundamentally because of the funding model more typically because they have not provided the external cost adjustments that the model provides and if you remember that is truly the function that is the reason why we joined the coalition is we want to be on that side is you need to fund the external cost adjustments especially in a year like this year no cost of adjustments for salaries in the highest year of inflation very short-sighted it hurt us
and we need to stop moving forward the coalition has been great they have not asked us for any payment because the coalition itself has to decide if they're going to join with wea or if they're going to file a suit on their own or if they're going to let school districts independently join those suits or do nothing those are the options as a member of the coalition we even told you that before is the board will have to decide any of that strategy for example if they want to join in the lawsuit you guys would have to approve that before if they don't want to join in the lawsuit you may not have to do anything but if you wanted to pursue joining with the wa you could again there's a lot of history involved
in this that i'm pretty sure this discussion will continue on the more i learn about the wa lawsuit what the coalition will do what the superintendent organization will do what national which the wyoming school board organization will do which we're also a part of all of these will be questions that that'll come to you and you'll have to make a decision do we join with these organizations in suit of the state or do we stand alone or do we not get involved so if we join the wea who is going to have the voice is it our attorneys that are with the coalition or is it going to be the wea who's going to take the lead through the coalition to be the coalition attorneys if we join on our own it would be our
attorneys just like the campbell lawsuits we had a seat at the table when we joined with sweetwater one two and campbell county is that right that's right okay and and note that the university of wyoming has requested 57 million dollars from a legislature for teacher raises um and i think that's you know if they approve that i'm gonna have some words with our legislature i don't think that's appropriate especially uh especially that's my opinion is especially when our teachers uh in the school district another school district deserve they deserve something as well that is one of the controversial things that have been done to the educational accounts is they've siphoned some off when there was access and given it to post-secondary education those funds were never intended for anything but k-12 and they've been siphoned
off and used and now they're asking for more if it depends who you listened to if we would have got the appropriate funding from the consultants that have reviewed the model the last two times so that's been a 10-year span we'll receive about 60 million dollars more educational funding in the state of wyoming which would have been significant for us significant a cost of living adjustment just the eca that's built into the model is only 1.5 that's a million dollars for us that we've been dealing without for seven out of the last nine years it is significant funding so not that you can probably see my bias in this but i just want to make sure you know that the board will have to make a decision as we move forward it is it is
a big deal to join a lawsuit because there will be an expense just like with the campbell lawsuits our district put a lot of money out but did a lot of good for the students of wyoming not just for young county very proud that we did and a lot of proud things to me but it took 15 years i think those four campbell lawsuits from the late 1890s the late 1980s to 2010 basically that's more than 15 years but four lawsuits to really get to where we are we have horizon we have evanston middle school because of that lawsuit and clark forgot about clark that's what he came before so so just this is more of a heads up that's coming if you don't decide it today yeah if you go to the um the
round-up i'm sure miami school boards will talk about this they will no okay so thank you manager thank you okay down to our public comments is there anybody here for public comment tonight yeah okay go ahead and come up here and please state your name and your address hi my name is bradley mills and i live at 109 fox point court evanston wyoming and i have four questions for the board i hope i get four answers i will pretty confident my first question how many of you will not implicate critical race theory in our schools by show of hands will not oh i will i will not implement it no they come you nice answer second question how many of you will not implement woke indoctrination to the teachers guys third question how many of
you will not implement mandatory vaccinations at school without parents permission nice how many of you will not implement puberty blockers at school without parents consent nice well that's good um i have one more comment uh i listen to your discussion and it seems to me you've missed a huge point people are broke they don't have money for school and events our government's destroying the american family funding you put it on the people it ain't going to happen priority so pay attention to that people at home historically are going to have less money than at any time in our lifetime so please keep that in mind as you negotiate funding that the family won't have makes sense thank you appreciate the time thank you thank you thanks brett are there any more public comments tonight okay
i don't see any more so we'll go ahead and move on to our action items our first action item tonight is for personnel madam chair members of the board we recommend that you include the contract with sarah caldwell she represents the last certified teacher so okay is there a motion to approve the contract oh okay is there a motion to approve the contract for sarah caldwell so moved second any discussion all in favor any opposed motion passes down to our pathway to excellence board and district goals and communication plan not a chair we recommend that you approve this pathway to excellence that we've been talking about for the last two weeks okay is there a motion to approve our pathway to excellent excellence so moved second any discussion all in favor all right any opposed
okay motion passes okay down to our next item which is to approve the first reading of igd and igd are co-curricular in interscholastic activities with the changes that we discussed tonight mountain cherry it is just igd i didn't make any changes to igdpr okay that's regulations typically that doesn't need board approval but as i went through it i didn't see a need to update anything it had been updated more recently okay could you make a motion to approve the agenda don't let me do it with just him verbally saying it do we need to make a motion to approve the agenda item i would just make a motion to approve igb okay all right yeah we just don't have to include okay the regulation so is there a motion regarding this policy second discussion all
in favor aye aye opposed okay motion passes down to approve our first reading the j h cd administering medications to students now the chair members would i recommend that you approve this even though we don't have the list of medication if you remember first reading you can approve it you can add it have a four second reading so i'll have matt and the nurses provide us a list and we'll add that to the pastor i think it helps we'll get some very good calls all right chair i'll make that motion a second okay any discussion i i would just recommend that we be real real uh keep our records straight make sure that we're talking to john du bois the parent versus my neighbor who says he's john du bois you know we need to
cross the t's and dot the eyes on this but uh that's all that's a good point yeah okay anything else all in favor [Applause] any opposed okay motion passes hey approve our transportation statutes and rules compliance manager members deborah travis is here but this is something that we do annually we're required to do it by law basically i believe it tells us where we're going to turn around where we're going to run our regs any changes of significance no no changes this year just kind of updated a little bit as the wde rules so i want to bring up something right now that's going to happen not this year but the next year so you're aware of it because george did leave in 23 24 we will be removing the overpass uh and redoing it
so you're probably gonna have to look at your routes and your buses that will fit underneath that underpass okay so overpass we're taking on just have the underpass wow and george said there was i think six buses that conflicted with the underpass how long does that last oh i'm gonna i'm gonna stretch it out till i retire which is about four years so enjoy it no we're gonna try to get it done within six months so we're gonna try to start it in december and be done by june make sure you write that down record that possible that way yes and go to the east interchange and people have to utilize that to get out to the north end of town so anyway just so you're aware just coming up so when you make your
plans next year you're aware of of what we'll be facing don't let the air out of the tires we've had to do that before you're right yeah okay is there a motion to approve the transportation statutes and rules compliance document second any discussion it was me and dan yeah uh caleb i just have one question at the very end it says this space is needed for separate buses but some of these locations include aspen force cinemas et cetera do we do we did get permission from those annually or on a case-by-case basis to do that for emergency drills et cetera yeah i'm just asking annually we get permission okay okay any other questions okay all in favor aye aye any opposed commission passes okay approve school safety and security i'm chair we have no we
don't need it yeah dude just let that one go i guess you don't need to do that yeah no okay so we're skipping that okay approve the early diploma request and chair we recommend that you approve the early diploma request as discussed in the executive session okay is there a motion to approve the early diploma request as discussed in executive session i second okay any discussion all in favor aye can you post okay motion passes okay physical therapy contract extension now to chair members of the board recommend that you approve this extension for black supports this is for three sports seasons so it is for a thousand dollars per square season this provides two free visits to physical therapists for each sport season and we do have some real good news to attach to that
after this yeah but um i have talked to mr stokes he's excited to do this he's it's been a good partnership good relationship kind of way to tell our remember that rfp we put out expired hadn't heard anything for a while and so we just moved forward with this so we recommend that you do approve this how did he how did he do on the previous contract excellence forks yes right mr o'neill he is excellent he does a great job very personable i i think he understands the needs of the school districts done a fantastic job of providing what we needed excellent actually okay good to hear yeah okay is there a motion to approve the physical therapy contract extension with black sport i shall move okay a second okay any other discussion or questions
all in favor any opposed motion passes athletic trainer contract yeah yeah members of the board this is really really good news believe it or not found out about it today so the star valley health group contacted me they would like to offer us a physical an athletic trainer and she happens to be here we'd like to introduce yourself sure hi y'all i'm jackie clark just to give you a quick background on my credentials i'm a sports physical therapist i'm the first and only sports residency trained and board certified sports specialist in the state so what that means is i also have credentials in cpr aed basic life support and i'm an emergency responder for athletes so i can perform the duties of sports medicine services or athletic training services for these kids as a sports
physical therapist so that's me i'm very excited to be here and do this for you guys and help these kids and everything so i'm really excited so that's me very excited yeah he's been in contact with us for the whole summer um at one point you didn't think it was going to happen but today it happened so jackie will be our athletic trainer she will basically be housed in high school um she will be there for practices she'll provide a service for anyone that is injured rehabilitation she'll have office hours so they can come in and she can support this physical therapist hopefully we can work it out so next semester she'll teach a class sports medicine correct develop some student trainers we're really excited about this again this is star valley health group they're
providing this there is a charge it is one dollar um they provide us not only jackie but all the equipment that she'll need we provide a facility and of course i'm sure we'll help and support any way we can but this is a really good deal for our kids now we have an athletic trainer on site and we also have where we can send them to a physical therapist free of charge with two three visits for sports season combination of bulk both we're pretty careful that there's not a lot of competition of course our physical trainer physical athletic trainer can send the kids anywhere they want to go but they do get two free visits at black school so the combination of both is pretty impressive i have sent this contract to mr phillips haven't
heard back yet what what what what i don't mess what um there are a couple mistakes in it that i've already highlighted uh the names maybe this contract is not from mr phillips it is can't cancel and star very health group but they're small things like lcsd number two instead of ucsd number one so those are the kind of changes what i would like to do is approve this tonight and allow mr phillips to review the contract and then we'll have it signed by the chairman and myself when it's fixed but this is i would say we got everything we asked for in the rfp and if you remember the rfp it is a lot for our kids this is a neat opportunity the way they wrote this contract they can extend it as many
times as they want not a dollar and won't be willing to pay and so unique opportunity for us well i'm being able to have a class too so not just having the athletic trainer being able to have a class this is fantastic i i have a question did you start today kind of bubba invited me to come to the freshman football game and there's a kid suffering from some heat exhaustion and blood and strain in her thigh and i just can't help myself so we took care of them and but yeah tomorrow i guess and yeah met the volleyball girls and the coach a little bit there too and the football coaches so i've been really welcoming so far i'm excited do you live here now yes i just moved here a week ago from
green river so i've been doing this the past two years over there with them and their athletic trainer and prior to that i was at tcu in texas at green river today he was very disappointed that he lost her yeah she is supposed to be a superstar and i got to see that in action we had five kids that as soon as i said she's our new trainer we had five kids yeah that piece of my fire kids and the yeah well you know i i began my duties on the school board in january and it seems like that this has been worked on for a long long time and the board has been 100 supportive uh to the superintendent in making this happen and uh i myself personally as a trustee i'm i'm pleased
to see the culmination of the the efforts of many yeah i'm excited welcome yes thank you there's only one downfall i spent some time on the phone with her today oh i'm a die-hard dallas cowboys yeah i'm sorry over my head well i shouldn't say cowboy fan we had that discussion earlier as long as you say you're a cowboy fan we're all right are you a one are you no i went to texas tech so i'm a red raider they're supposed to be national champions this year football the texas tech red raiders about a month ago and we're getting one of the best that they've ever had so thank you all right perfect yeah thank you okay is there a motion to approve the athletic trainer contracts phone numbers so down to our board round
table who wants to share um i don't know if this is the place to bring it up um but as we get to the final stages of our project out there there are some things that still need to be brought up and and discussed a little bit and some change orders that need to be discussed i don't know and i'm going to bring it before the board do we need to have a look at that what is there before we make a final payment and approve it we'll do that for you that's our job or more importantly that's jared's job so he needs to make that report to you but if you have specific things that you want to see done make sure you know that's what i'm saying and and before we make that
final payment for him to report to us that's what i want would like to see before we make that final acceptance of that project i don't want anybody stepping away from this thing thinking that it's a 100 percent done when we still have a few things hanging out there so that has to happen through the board at that point just by your contract just so you guys know you know we'll do a final walk through kind of of everything but then we also they basically have 45 days and so um we won't make that final payment until even past that 45 days and so if there are some concerns that you have mr peterson please let me know there were a lot of things taken care of last week in regards to the field we
had some sick slow spots that i made them cut the carpet and refill and re-compact and do some things and so if there are some other areas that you have concerns on please let me know so we can i guess the only things out there is some of the the change orders that might be floating around the give-and-take that we've we've had to deal with that's that's the thing that i just want to make sure we're getting what we're paying for and we're not being taken advantage of of by there's still some significant discussions to be had yet okay that's what i i just and like i said i don't necessarily need to be involved with it just that as long as we we know that there are some things out there that need to
be resolved and and there's the one huge one out there that i still it stings me quite a bit and it's cost us a lot of money and it saved them a lot of money so to kind of help ease that um i had them remove some asphalt which was that little section where we kind of had that entrance there i don't know if you've been up there lately and um that little section which was just shy of maybe 1400 square feet of sidewalk was seven thousand dollars so now go back and put your pencil to what asphalt should have been removed and the number that they gave us of eighty thousand dollars to remove it is significantly higher what's nice now is i have that number and i can if needed be able to
use that number and say okay this is the number you gave me so i should see this credit yeah there was there was alternatives rather than just leave that in there there was there was other options and they chose not to even approach those options so but because now i have it in writing it makes it a lot easier to be able to go back and negotiate and say okay now i know what you charged me for this my credit should be it should be some things not only the asphalt but the interior of that entire field they saved so half a foot or more of material that should have been removed so yeah okay so okay with with the parking lot how close we got to getting that cleaned up and it's gonna be
ready to go for homecoming game that's chock bottom so after next week most of that's going to be cleaned up we will have that cleaned up for homecoming game the first game the jock lot will be cleaned up the back of the high school um we'll we'll still have construction bins and stuff like that so behind the high school because that's the one project now do we have access to our ada stuff up there or is that going to interfere with our 88 part on the upper end you should be okay you should be okay your ada stalls are not covered with construction debris or anything okay so and they should be additionally in the jackpot and now they can access because of that ramp right from that site yeah yeah sort of we our
official ada is still up on top um because of that great a little bit we we aren't officially at 88. there's a little grade break that halfway went down the ramp that was not intended yeah but i still think i can get one in there you better hurry yeah no i i mean it's not going to be a big deal i mean seriously so it's that i think where i've i think i can lay it out and get it in there so okay yeah because i know they're getting ready to pour that next session section down i think tomorrow yeah and so wherever we've got something we could do internally okay it's not that big of a deal perfect that'll be good but we are really close so that other side hill is really really
close to 88 i can't claim it ada because if somebody actually right now put a level on it it wouldn't pass but it's it's really it is it is so close it is like right there so but if any other board member has any other just to kind of give you a kind of an update you know we did do that walk through there were some issues that were you know naturally that we saw that we brought up they did rectify those what they have left to do right now is put together the soccer goal posts they need to put up the post for the netting show us how to to take those down do the proper procedures for all of that jed needs to come out and do some training with us on the
equipment itself there's two pieces of field equipment that we need to have some training on and then we're waiting on the mesh which is the fencing which will go on the east side right along the visitor bleachers there that needs to come in as well as the rolling gates once that's done then field turf is pretty much completed what about the reading behind our retaining blocks that is almost done they were working on they've got the one done on the south side and they're working on the north side [Music] today they were putting in the sand in the jumping pit on the inside of the field um we've done a change order i didn't like their price and so i've actually contracted norris to put the cement in on the larger jumping pit and as
soon as that's done then they'll put the sanding on that side so uh they did not they're going to pour that tomorrow the last big issue that we have right now that needs to be rectified and it will probably not be rectified in the next week but hopefully in the next couple weeks is our jumping boards and those jumping boards right now we specifically paid a lot of extra money to have those in and the way they put those together are not proper and so yes and also the other thing is we're negotiating stuff we have a pole vault pit that has no drain in it that has been rectified they have put the they drilled a hole and used it as a drain they didn't pipe it they didn't tie into our system so
i mean the rectification is not what the original design was that's what i'm saying right so yes and no as brett and i were looking over some things what they've done i i need to visit with you on that one okay so my experience i've never seen in those boxes you always have to bail them yeah you always said there was always water in them and we have to be really careful if you put actually the one-inch plug there it becomes actually a safety issue for the pole vaulters themselves and so what field turf has done is what they've done in all of the rest of their boxes and put a half inch they drilled on the side a half inch where and that goes into that leech field which was right underneath the um
the pole vault box itself after use they cover it every time yeah how are we keeping kids off the cement slopes with electricity you know it's kind of like you touch the hot oven once and you won't ever touch it again our goal is now we're actually fencing that and the fencing guys actually started today so there will be a just like we had before along the perimeter there will be a fence going all the way around that as well now if they choose to come down on the fill side and climb up and i think i think just the structure of it itself where you have three foot of number three rock then you have that concrete stuff and then three feet of number three rock it's not easy to walk on i think
it's gonna prohibit people from calling up that one at least hopefully we'll be sliding down like they were on the grass because that would hurt hopefully with the additional area behind the restrooms and concession stands which will soon have grass by the end of september that area will be a great area for our kids to play instead of on the slopes of the track and football field but they are kids so if i add a couple ropes we'll just call this new jungle gym and it'll be really good any other questions on the um field itself yeah no i don't have any questions on the field but back in january i had asked the question if we were going if the date of completion was not was not uh done by the contractor you know
were we going to execute the contract and basically for the lack of better term charging a thousand dollars a day for being late has that been a moving target august 19th or whatever yeah we have gone back and forth there have been some official change orders presented to us based on different things and so our you know this week should be our final contract except for the things that will need to be done in the next 30 days which should be addressed so as we address our change orders that is going to be a topic of discussion the two weeks that we've extended to them we can talk about that there were some weather related issues which they were supposed to take into consideration with the start of the project and some of those was
when they started actually putting the surfacing on the track and weren't able to to do that and so i agree with you there's there is a little bit of um give and take i should say as as we look at that so i understand i would just add it's my experience of clark and horizon and evanston middle school you can't get a lot of traction on that where we need traction is the asphalt underlayment that cost is significant two weeks were probably okay if they went past the 23rd then i would say there should be a penalty we need to be really tight on those big ticket items if they finish by the 19th i think we do our best as a negotiating tactic but that's not a hill to die on i probably shouldn't
say that particularly but there are other hills i i agree but that's one of the things that you have in your tool case in your toolbox and you'll say hey we gave you two weeks on this right here you know and now you're beating me up on something else seven thousand dollars for 1400 square feet i mean come on all right so anyway we uh we'll be okay with those negotiations press box this box is 90 done everything on the outside is completed what we're waiting on now is some handrails and um the carpet which is going to be delayed to the end of september october poor ronnie hasn't heard actually when that carpet's going to ship but as soon as it gets here he'll be able to get it in um have they determined
what the weight allowances are on that press box how many people you know how much weight well the structural guy looked at it structurally that thing would put our whole student body yeah do we need um do we need to post that that occupancy on the structure itself that'll be up to the state fire marshal on that and that is still with them um i've resubmitted some more plans that they've asked for and so we're back and forth on that and so there will probably be an occupancy the number of people we anticipate being in there will be less than what that occupancy will allow well that's a great question maybe just have a question any other questions in regards to the field it's coming along if you'd like a tour sometime if you'd like
to come and look at the press box let ryan know he'll get you know i'd be happy to be happy to take you up there um if you haven't seen it last week you know getting the striping on there it really makes that track and field totally complete have the football players being been allowed to take a tour yet they've been allowed to take a tour they have not been allowed to have a practice correct but how did they what was their response like all of us they're ready to go with the lights on the light well the first game there'll be no light right but uh i think all of you need to go out and walk walk it because it is it's pretty special um what you guys allowed us to do is
going to to be a positive for our community for a long time and uh that field when you walk on it it is soft the track when you walk on is very soft it is state of the art every every aspect of it you need to go and walk it and see what you did did you get that gentleman's name that walked up and asked you with the cane remember you told that story did you get that gentleman's name and maybe take him on a personal tour or something i'll tell you this um there are people up and down that back street constantly they i think they want to go out there but this is what i hear it's under construction so nobody wants to walk out i would encourage you to walk out there
and walk on it but i would encourage any of our community members to do that right now being a hard hat go run a sport and see if your let me see if i can make 40. no the question is do you need a hard hat no at this point you don't need a hard hat it there at all but yeah please go out and take we will have the lights on for the press our big pep assembly and so that'll be kind of the first time that everybody will see the lights on which will be really good no all that being said i'm very impressed so don't don't think that i'm beating you up for anything you know they did a great job and things is just tidying up a little housekeeping so just
for you guys real fast i went down to the ben lomond game two weeks ago and their field is two years old and i will say that we've got a very high quality product compared to what i saw down here it is exceptional what we have what you guys provide like like dave said there are things when you walk out there there are things that we see and we want to be perfect it's never going to be perfect but it's pretty darn good and i think everybody's jumping in a bit and after september 23rd so so everyone knows so i don't get these questions we're going to play every single football game middle school through all of our high school on that field so every kid 7 12 will be an opportunity to play on
that field this year so i don't get asked that question and i also want to say i know this is about the stadiums but we also have starting blocks new starting blocks that will be coming in for our swim program so there's a lot of big things that have happened over this short period of time so a lot of stuff here didn't care about i just get to walk around and make mental notes about what i don't like but there's not many of those it's a pretty special special thing so i know we all want to go home i have to tell you a quick story i was talking to the field layers so the carpet layers last week and skyline high school just put a brand new synthetic surface on top of their football
field this summer two months ago last week the guys had to be back at skyline high school because their four inch main water line which went right across their field [Music] exploded so they had to cut their carpet all the way across trench down more than four feet and pull up everything there and then work on recompacting so thank you for the additional funds which allowed us to take our main water line out of that football field and put it on outside that's exactly why we wanted to do it they didn't think they'd ever have that issue and two weeks after having a brand new field had to tear up a lot of it so glad that we will not have that particular issue with ours ever so thanks again guys if you do have
any questions yeah i do i've got just one thing uh i drive by north elementary all the time and as you know uh you had contractors in there putting siding on the buildings as you as you know it was a bit of an eyesore but i will tell you i don't know who the contractor was but man that looks nice that really those buildings look really nice um and i think that people coming from utah that come in that's one of the first schools they see oh it's a nice school i'm sure they but anyway i just wanted to say that looks really nice with job well done thank you same contractors the ones who built our press box so they they had a busy summer with us yeah so thank you thanks you guys
thank you thank you thank you that was the longest round table wow so i'll tell you how quick you started i know i'll entertain a motion to adjourn second we possibly can you did not submit your name so guess what you did i did what's your name they
