[Applause] good evening my name is ala wary and I'm deeply troubled by the unest removal of Miss laia from her role as chair of daac members of the daac held a meeting on on November 6th hastily voting to remove Miss alali despite pleas from over 300 community members present in that meeting this decision sends an alarming message to Muslim Students implying their voices don't matter condemning Palestinian genocide is not anti-Semitism I strongly urge the Board of Education to address this islamophobic and racist decision promptly I urge for the immediate re reinstatement of Mrs Miss alali to her rightful position ensuring that the values of diversity equity and inclusion are upheld in our school district thank you thank you good evening everyone thank you for the opportunity to speak today I'm a member of this community

and my name is zenet I stand here to urge the board to reinstate Miss la la Leia alali as chair of deac as she was wrongfully removed from her position based on a personal social media post reflecting the ongoing blatant Israeli ethnic cleansing and Israeli genocide of the Palestinian people chair alali has an amazing track record of continuously advocating for Muslims and non-muslims English Learners refugees immigrants students and made this very District a safer healthier space for all removing laa sent a clear message to community that freedom of speech of a Muslim minority woman means nothing and comes to a cost of losing her job again condemning genocide does not translate into hate for others you guys have to act or history will witness thank you thank you so much for having me I really

thought that I was not going to be on the speakers list because there were that many of us that but I just wanted to say as a parent as a taxpaying citizen as a nurse in the society that actually takes care of you know sick patients on a daily basis what message are we bringing to this platform as Muslims we are daily bombarded by anti-islamic semitism why because look at me you can see that I'm clearly a Muslim just to add to everything else that I agree with that everyone else said Dr laia was the one platform that a Muslim mothers in the public school system could go to and say did you know what just happened to my student do you know what our teachers are doing our teachers are bringing in so much

rhetoric and no nobody is taking away their position nobody is holding them accountable for harassing attacking thank you so much thank you as a San Diego Unified School District alumni I'm incredibly disappointed by the deac decision of removing Al and the board upholding the Sham of a vote we witnessed last week what we saw what we're seeing in this today is that this is bullying and silencing Muslim Arab and Palestinian voices in Sano unified school districts an attempt to silence students I want to remind you that as we stand here today Israel is currently murdering Palestinians and the removal of Cher Al Al further perpetuates the same violence and further silences Palestinians here as we watch our families back home being murdered cheral Al has continuously advocated for Muslim English Learners Refugee and immigrant Stu

students here and made the school districts a healthier space for all students we have sent over 300 emails and sign a petition with 2,000 signatures because we know that our students continue to face islamophobia and Char Alia was the only person who was standing against thank you okay our our final group our final group of people includes Q Tran amanii farita erot Linda Mii Janine erot Asia aragot Elena elani Jamie Carmel abuad Salma AB Abdullah and ramla sahed please come forward and go ahead and start with the first person thank you hi my name is is Quay Tran I am a member of Asian solidarity Collective I've been a resident of San Diego for over 10 years and I have friends whose children attend schools under San Diego unified I am calling for you to

support Miss laalia to be reinstated to her position I am asking for you to protect her freedom of speech and to stand with her I come from a community of refugees that are traumatized I'm a settler quality myself I had a teacher who experienced islamophobia for not doing nothing other than existing and it's appalling that I stand here over 12 years later in a completely different County and a completely different School District with apparently nothing having changed in our society between then and now even as a genocide occurs user powered influence the reinstatement of his laia thank you um if you've already speaking spoken you're only allowed to come up once I do see that it looks like Janine erot has signed up twice so um one time if you've already spoken you are not

allowed to come up a second time thank you she's not standing so thank you I'm going to start my name is farita erat I am an sdusd Alum I also work at the Majel Arab Community Center of San Diego and let's talk about the 22 years of islamophobia discrimination and anti-arab racism that our students have faced since the onset of the war on terror it is disgusting what our students have to deal with every single day over the past week we have had thousands of our community members speak up in support of reinstating L alali after the disgusting decision in which no procedure were followed in that meeting our community was absolutely silenced in which we have seen in this room the disgusting islamophobic comments made against our community as we watch as thousands of

our Palestinian people are being murdered just today Al shifa hospital was bombed for a second or third time you want to talk about babies being beheaded that's because they are being murdered by the Israeli apartheid settler colonial state and it students should not be penalized for saying free Palestine students should not be penalized for saying from the river to the palestin will be free we want freedom for our people we want freedom for all people hello my name is asot I urge the Board of Education to address the islamophobic and racist removal of Miss laia alali from her position as chair of the daac and call for her to be reinstated to her position chair alali has continuously advocated for Muslim English Learners refugees and immigrant students and made the SD sdusd District a safer

healthier space for all students sdusd Prides itself on values of diversity equity and inclusion what you're doing now goes against your own values you all are currently telling Muslim Arab immigrant Refugee non- English speakers in all black indigenous and students of color that their voices do not matter I demand an apology for the execution of the November 6th meeting and to restore Leia in her position as the dlac chair thank you this is not free speech there are certain elements of free speech that are not protected under the First Amendment inciting violence defamatory Speech true threats fighting words the these are not protected I really admire the fact that you took the stance that you did and eliminated her from her position you will claim that is islamophobic it is not islamophobic it is the

ab inability to communicate beliefs responsibly the post grossly exceeded the protections from the first amendments in free speech there is no place for defamatory language and negativity anywhere especially in the school district and a leadership position she has shown she is unable to conduct herself respectfully and she should not be entrusted with guiding children they are anti-semitic beliefs using while she could have been using her platform for peace she chose to incite violence and choose chose to vilify Jews the post did not condemn Israel it used a star of David there is a big difference free speech saying you condemn Israel is not using a star of David to behead babies thank [Applause] you hi uham alaykum peace be upon you um my name is Lana Alani I am a Iraqi Palestinian refugee and I

came to San Diego um my family and I sought Refuge here in 2010 and a lot of people like to iterate that students and children especially young children will not remember and will not forget or will forget um the Injustice the injustices that they face um but I'm here to tell you that it's never forgotten and Trauma is generational Palestinian trauma is generational and I am baffled and shocked that we are in a world where people who are entrusted to take care of children and students are not doing their jobs and are promoting silencing and dictation of freedom of speech and of voices and a protection of children I urge you to reinstate uh Miss alali to your uh daac board um sorry thank you hello my name is Salma Abdullahi I went through this

school district and I am forget about disappointed disgusted in the decision to remove um to remove lalia I would like to first off like you have to reinstate her because that makes no sense but the notion that what she said was hate speech are we now saying the UN Human Rights Watch euromed Amnesty International bit Salam a Israeli human rights wash are all lying when they say that Israel is killing Palestinian children they're all lying how how is it hate speech when it's the truth how how does that make any sense so now telling the truth is hate speech are we denying the fact that Israel is murdering Palestinian children amongst those children that are found beheaded fathers carrying plastic bags with their children that's lies everyone is lying but Israel is telling the truth

how how how how does that make sense to anyone and to silence to go off the point of thank you hi good evening my name is Carmel and I'm a member of the San Diego Community I'm here to urge the board to reinstate Miss alalia as in her position as the deac chair it is not anti-semitic to criticize a government that is committing a genocide against Palestinian people it's just not over 11,000 people in Palestine have been killed unjustly and she was speaking out against that and she should have her position as the in the deac position um her post use the Israeli flag it is not anti-semitic to criticize a state she is a person of strong character she has done so much for this community and she's being defamed by people that support

a den side you all should stand on the right side of History you should give her position back and it is not okay the way that they are disparaging her character here tonight it is not okay she is someone who spoke truth to power she was speaking out against a genocide and history will redeem her you all are on the wrong side of History if you do not use your influence to allow her to get her position back thank you good evening you're all people in power so you bear a huge responsibility in speaking truth and using your power to make the decisions for human Justice have you have any of you seen what that image was that got Miss Al Ali uh uh uh removed from her chair can you raise your hand if

you've seen that image so none of you have seen that image great I'd like to share that with you after this you have a right to know why that happened to her unjustly to this day since October 7th Israel has committed murder and Massacre and genocide of over 4,300 children children alone I'm not mentioning adults I'm not mentioning anybody else but children so I'm going to use the rest of my time here tonight to read you the names of those children and I hope you remember those names as you go to sleep many of them many of them are siblings many of them are siblings Muhammad radwan Bayan radwan Muhammad radwan rwan Abdul Abdul khik KH rwan two Palestinian children living in neighborhood houses Muhammad khad mAh alar and Zakaria remember those names good evening

today many of them couldn't make it today and they're wondering if the San Diego Unified School District is a safe space and safe place for their children I don't want to send my kids to a school where they will be invisibilized where they'll be further marginalized where they'll be told that any any criticism of Israel is hate speech because I know lalia and she's the only person who has consistently engaged cross communities and engaged Us in something I actually don't believe in which is thank you thank you okay um we are going to start our virtual um comments and if we're going to give that person few seconds to get on and then and if they're not there we will move to the next so we are going to start with uh Teresa Perez no

Diego are being exposed to intimidation and harassment even by teachers this cannot be tolerated I cannot fathom what kind of person is happy to post a Jewish star slicing baby heads off more concerning is that a person like that worked with children every staff person must be a role model and held to a higher standard I appreciate that the board adopted a resolution against anti-Semitism and supports having inclusive schools for all students and will protect all students whether it's combating racist material used in class or unprofessional District staff it is imperative that you keep the schools inclusive and ensure that students and educators are not exposed to anti-semitic anti-semitic content or influenced by those who to hold anti-semitic views thank you okay do we have Nadia yeah hi uh thank you so much for having

me today you have one minute naria yeah thank you um I actually took time from my day today to listen to all your beautiful presentations and I had a question to uh superintendent uh Dr Jackson I sent you multiple emails and I was asking for an official investigation about discriminatory actions at the dilac but I never received an answer back so my question is is it due to high volume of emails is it you have a click happy secretary or is it a deliberate indifference to my complaints um I would like an answer and you can send me an email back because if it is I actually will have illegal implication surrounding the nonresponsiveness we're not going to play the victims here we know who's the victim and we know who's actually being um affected

by anti-muslim islamophobia we love Jews I have friends who are Jews and what Miss alalia put it's not is not anything anti thank [Applause] you number 25 okay Laura uh please unmute yourself hello hi Laura you have 1 minute I wanted to commend your actions standing up against hate and anti-Semitism I immigrated to the US in 1987 I graduated from San Diego United Unified School District and I have two children in the district last year in the past year I had a Muslim Child come up to my child on a daily basis for a couple months saying you stupid e Jew the child continued to tell my child that he should have been guest that we should have destroyed the Torah the same child went on to threaten to rape my 13-year-old daughter in a

very violent way there should be no space for any kind of hate in the school district at all in the school system I have Muslim friends and thank you Laura okay who's um go ahead is Hussein with us okay Hussein can you hear me hi can you hear me yes you have one minute thank you my name is Hussein Eline and I have spent my entire public school education in San Diego schools I urge the Board of Education to address the islamophobic and racist removal of missia from her position as daac chair and I called for her to be reinstated it is important to Pro protect her freedom of speech Israel is a government and its criticism is not anti-Semitism anti-Semitism is a Scourge and should be absolutely condemned I have personally experienced islamophobia and

racism as a Lebanese Iraqi Muslim throughout my experience in San Diego Public Schools and I see that same islamophobia at play here again with the dismissal of Mrs Al she she stood as an advocate for students just like me one of the only ones that I've seen I've grown up watching my brothers and sisters in Iraq and Palestine dying at the hands of settler colonial governments 11,000 civilians have been killed in Palestine over 4,300 of those have been children anti-Semitism and criticism of a foreign government are absolutely not equivocal please reinstate Mrs Ali thank [Applause] you Stacy are you with us Stacy yes I am hello yes hi you have one minute good evening uh superintendent Jackson and members of the school board my name is Stacy Brer reinstein and I'm a parent of two

high school students in the district and a member of the Jewish Community I wanted to express my appreciation of the board's adoption of the resolution against anti-Semitism and for recognizing that no student or group within our district should fear becoming a target of discrimination bullying or violence especially in light of a recent uptick of incidents of anti-Semitic language and acts at my son's school and other schools thank you board members for taking anti-Semitism seriously for stepping up quickly to stomp out hate and for taking decisive action against those who exposee hatred anti-Semitism and bigotry of any kind thank you do we have an enie with us um yeah can you hi enie if you're with us can you unmute please I'm unmuted yes you have one minute my name is Anie I'm calling and all

the way from the other side of the county to urge you to reinstate Miss salali I can see even not being a refugee or Muslim that this is clearly a case of islamophobia and I think it's ridiculous that all of these people are more up in arms about a cartoon depicting genocide than they are about an actual genocide that's happening shame on all of you okay oh I think you muted yourself Anie if you still wanted to continue yeah um that's really all I have to say you should reinstate Miss Al this is clearly a case of racism and there's a huge difference between criticizing Israel and saying something anti-semitic and what she posted and what she said is absolutely correct there's a genocide and anyone who doesn't speak up about it is on the

thank you superintendent Jackson and schoolb members my name is Tamar I'm a parent alumni and constituent of San Diego Unified School District thank you for ensuring students and educators are not exposed to anti-semitic content or influenced by those who hold anti-semitic views because the social media Post in question is just that anti-semitic and racist unfortunately it was only one of many over the many many years that I have been following Miss alali I know and you know that the decision was not based on islamophobic views if one of the Asian or Latin members of deac had posted something as egregious as what missal did which violated the committee's bylaws they would have been moved as well Additionally the overall lack of remorse ownership of said post also shows a lack of judgment I applaud the

D committee for taking anti-Semitism seriously enforcing the resolution condemning anti-Semitism and to the board for taking decisive action against those who asess hatred anti-Semitism and bigotry of any kind thank you so much for your support and again to the DC committee we thank you thank you um before we go on I just want to there are some people on here that have already spoken so if we can yeah thank you for making sure that we check it okay so if you're online and you've already spoken um you were not allowed to speak again thank you so you said Alex is not is oh I'm sorry Alex are you available can you hear us hello yes you have one minute thank you um when I start this to the board I I'm a parent of two

you available yes I am you have one minute okay as a former member of the deac board I know the process of removing a member in the entire process which was displayed on the November 6th meeting was 100% against the bylaws there were over 300 participants in the meeting meeting who were urging the deac board to retract their votes and listen to public comments lalia is the only person in the entire County of Sano who advocates for not only Muslim and Arab students but also for all students regardless of their background the decision which was unjustly made on November 6 was shameful and disgraceful you are all complicit in the silencing and harassment of your own Muslim and Arab students and colleagues and everybody was so hurt over a cartoon which merely just depicts the

reality of what is currently happening in Gaza there just right now as this meeting was taking place a hospital in Gazza was was taken over by IDF soldiers where there were babies who were actually beheaded and children who were murdered and that this is what this is the reality of what's going on thank [Applause] you okay tal tal are you available can you hear me you need to unmute yourself possibly okay if T is not available okay tally one more chance all right we're g to move on to Camila no problem Elana okay let's go with Iman El Maan can you hear me please unmute Iman one more more chance okay um Mona oh yeah oh sorry go ahead Aman yeah we're here actually you were disappointed with this committee uh with the decision has

been taken against Raa uh because this anti-semitic thing has been thrown around a lot which in fact she's submitting himself herself I mean you cannot you cannot just blame somebody's anti-semitic when they are smiting themselves so uh we urge you to take the the right decision and be on the good side of the history because we will remember everybody will remember which side you were on thank [Applause] you okay naen are you available yes I'm here good evening one minute okay um my name is nine and I've been working with Refugee students within the school district for over five years I'm speaking today to urge the board to reinstate Cher L alali to deac and I urge the board to not give into external pressures such as from the ADL that are attempting to equate

criticism of the Israeli state with anti-Semitism Israel is currently committing genocide against Palestinians and we should all be speaking out against these Israeli war crimes over 12 over 12,000 Palestinians have been killed half of those are children chair alali should not be punished for bringing attention to this ongoing genocide the image that Cher alali used was clearly of the flag of the genocidal Israeli State and the fact that so many people were speaking at this meeting today in defense of this gen genocide is honestly concerning and that concludes my comment um I'm sorry who [Music] Who Clue okay sorry uh oh yes clude Khalifa yes um can you please unmute are you there clude okay you need to unmute please clude okay one more chance okay we're going to move on to Le Lena Hussein

ethnic intolerance by equating this we're not only silting vital political disclosure but we're also blurring the lines is what constitute a genuine anti Mr Al's dismissal for expressing her views is strugling and suggesting that political expression is being censored under the just of comparing cater thank you [Applause] Mor do we have Maha okay Nora are you available and if so please unmute yourself Nora are you there Nora if you're available please unmute yourself okay we're gonna move on then we have um Nora N O A Q is she available she or he okay okay Nora if you're there and you can hear us please unmute yourself okay um please unmute yourself if you can hear me okay we're going to move on to [Music] Ismael oh okay um okay Haley Holly deg Gro okay e
