of all open sessions of the governing board. On behalf of the board of education, thank you in advance for helping us conduct this meeting respectfully. Lisette, do we have any speakers? There are no speakers. Action agenda. Resolution number 43-25/26. Resolution of the governing board of the San Marcos Unified School District regarding the final action to dismiss certificated employees, particular kinds of services. Joel. Yes, good evening, board members. As you are aware, at the at staff's recommendation, the board approved approved a certificated layoff resolution on February 26th, authorizing the district to provide preliminary notices to certificated staff members, informing them that their employment may be discontinued effective at the end of the school year. Since then, we've made significant progress in reducing the number of affected employees. The original resolution recommended eliminating 16.8 FTEs, which would

have impacted 19 staff members. Through secured categorical funding, employee attrition, and reassignments, we have reduced that number. Currently, 11 certificated staff members remain subject to layoff, though we continue to monitor staffing daily and will resend more notices when possible. On April 15th, 2026, an administrative law judge reviewed our case to ensure that there was sufficient cause and legal standing for these reductions. The judge has since issued a decision confirming that the district followed all legal requirements and formally recommended proceeding with the final layoff notices. Adoption of this resolution allows us to move forward with the necessary reductions, though we remain committed to saving as many positions as possible before the end of the school year. With that, this is an action item with the recommendation to approve the resolution as presented. Any comment? No? Okay.

Do we have a motion to adopt resolution number 43-2526, resolution of the governing board of the San Marcos Unified School District regarding the final action to dismiss certificated employees? So moved. Moved by member May and seconded by member Herrick. To adopt resolution number 43-2526 as presented. Board members in favor say I. I. Any opposed? Motion carries. 6.2, resolution number 44-2526, resolution of the governing board of the San Marcos Unified School District regarding the final action to dismiss classified employees. Yes, similar to the previous item, the board earlier authorized the elimination of 2.3 FTEs of classified positions, which initially affected three employees, a community liaison, a campus supervisor, and a typist clerk two. And pleased to share pleased to share that since this initial action, we have seen a very positive shift in the impact on

our staff. With internal placements, both the campus supervisor and the typist clerk have already sought out and successfully transitioned into other open positions within the school district. The community liaison has exercised her bumping rights and will will be returning to a previously held classification at the beginning of next school year. We've already finalized an agreement with CSEA regarding the specific terms of her new assignment, again, for next school year. So, to put it simply, while moving while we're moving forward with the resolution uh to eliminate these positions uh for the structural deficit reasons and for budgetary reasons, the approval of this resolution will not result in the uh impact to any classified employees um losing their employment with the school district. Again, this is an action item with the recommendation to approve the resolution as

presented. Are there any comments? Okay, do I have a motion to adopt resolution number 44-2526, resolution of the governing board of the San Marcos Unified School District regarding the final action to dismiss classified employees, particular kinds of services? I'll move to approve. Second. Moved by member Amato, seconded by member Martine, to approve uh resolution number 44-2526 as presented. Board members in favor say I. I. Any opposed? Motion carries. Closing items. The next regular board meeting will take place on Thursday, May 14th, uh 2026 at 6:30 p.m. in the media center of the North County Regional Education Center, 255 Pico Avenue, San Marcos, California, 92069.
