001to come call this meeting back to order we actually opened the meeting at six and we adjourned a closed session and we're now coming back after closed session so our report from closed session is we met with the district's labor negotiators to talk about our negotiations or contract negotiations with both smta and CSEA no actions took place um and you know we just come back out and now we get ready to start our meeting so with that I'd like to call us to order for Open Session and ask Ms Ashley Lynn of Carver Elementary to deliver help Elite us in our Pledge of Allegiance good evening superintendent De la Torre distinguished board members and all those in attendance my name is Ashley Lynn and I'm a fifth grade Pioneer at Carver Elementary I'm honored to

002be here to speak to you about leadership and I'm very grateful to all of you for taking the time to come tonight I'd also like to offer you my thoughts on my school this is my seventh and final year at Carver when I leave Carver I will have fond memories of the Carver Carnival the walking School Bus K Patrol and the time that I spent with my reading Buddies more importantly I will miss and cherish the seven wonderful teachers that have taught me each teacher in her own way has shown me qualities which I hope to Encompass myself in order to become a better student these qualities include kindness compassion inspiration intelligence courage and Leadership [Music] going into fourth grade I decided to participate in the student council one of the first tasks for us

003was to compose a campaign speech and give that speech in front of 200 other students nothing prepares you for standing at a Podium having hundreds of eyes on you I realized that to be a leader you must be able to communicate your ideas our first student council meeting included a brainstorming session of ideas to improve Carver during that meeting I realized that my thinking changed from what I want Carver to be to have be to how I can make it better for all Carver students I am discovering that taking on a leadership role means thinking for the common good and my definition of the common good means thinking my definition of a common good is what is shared and beneficial If We Hold to this idea every year should be greater than the last I

004hope to run again this year as a Carver fifth grader and to bring inclusion activities spirit days and service projects to the halls of Carver leadership means to me caring accountable respectful valuable excellent and responsible that spells Carver thank you today as I welcome you to the award-winning San Marino Unified School District board meeting I would like to pay respect to our flag and our country please join us as we recite the Pledge of Allegiance We Stand quietly and respectfully based a flag put your right hand over your heart ready begin I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all thank you actually that was outstanding thank you so much for that and

005before you sit down Ashley we're going to present you with a certificate of appreciation for that wonderful speech that you just gave I think we're going to ask you to come on over here and we're going to take a photograph with you there you go perfect go coverage [Music] another question yeah that's great yeah okay thank you so much thank you said we would have that hurts out could you hear that with us to your principal so that we could give it to us I think that that should be like average yeah mutated the best definition of leadership I've heard in a long time thank you so much thank you right all right so we need I need a motion to approve our agenda for tonight I move to approve the agenda thank you a

006second thank you um all right so let's vote Kelly yes Mike hi Joseph hi Shane hi Shelly I I all right so our agenda passed um and we need a motion to approve our minutes from our 9 13 board meeting do we have a motion for that Corrections that I made I was so distracted by Ashley beautiful speech but I didn't actually do this um I moved to approve with uh three minor edits um in the approval of the a292 special meeting minutes there's just um typo should read abstain not abstinctane um and then in the concise agenda the exception of sorry where where is that the approval of the agenda the approval of the minutes is abstem stain um and then on the motion to approve the consent section the exception of items that

007were pulled should read 9e through nine H not 9g through 9j okay and then um before item number 12 after the board goals we extended the meeting to 11 p.m and Mr Clocky made the motion to extend it it was seconded by Mr Chang and the roll call was five eyes zero no zero extension and one preferential okay and I believe Ms delatorre made the corrections and updated it but that was just something we had gotten originally so I wanted to put that into the record okay um thank you all right so you've made a motion with edits um thank you Joseph okay so let's vote oh sorry for one clarification on the consent section uh listing a through l right there's a couple of letters that are interesting to that which is referring to

008the actual physical part when we approved the consent section we had 15 minutes and those were actually items 90 through 9h not 9gbination but when but in section nine consent section it says a b d f g h i so they're there's letters missing is there in the list in this list you see what I'm talking about so I think it's different than what you're talking about yeah yeah so that's so this should be um Jennifer this should be you know essentially a through whatever and it's just it's not that we're missing any line items other than the ones we pulled it's just okay so we just need to correct the labeling the sequence thank you okay okay all right so we the first we have two edits well but Mike added an edit after

009years so do you want to accept his edits into your motion all right and Joseph you're still willing to Second yes all right perfect um so Kelly do you want to be our first voter on our amended motion here yes okay thank you Kelly Mike hi Joseph hi Jane hi Shelly aye aye all right so our um minutes from September 13th are approved so we're going to now start with um our San Marino High School football ASV and cheer District Spotlight we have an assistant principal Carlos Casa McClay here to introduce those programs that we're spotlighting this evening awesome well thank you for having me um president Caldwell members of the board superintendent Dr De la Torre executive team and a student member uh Trin smhs is proud to introduce members of our ASB cheer

010and football team to invite you uh to homecoming and share a little about their sport or organization and we're going to start first with um ASB hi everyone my name is Sophia Ahn and I'm currently a senior and I'm the vice president of ASB and today I'll just be talking a little bit about all the homecoming events that will be happening um next Friday so next Friday is what we call our spirit day and that's the day that we really encourage all of our students to wear Titan gear and show off their school spirit and they can do this by purchasing our spirit packs and these Spirit packs is something that ASB has been working really hard to put together and all the packs include a homecoming shirt which was actually designed by one of

011our students so that was really special and then we're also including tiny pom-poms School lanyards stickers tattoos candy and then all these items will be placed inside of a tote bag and each of these tote bags will be painted with a SM logo and they will all be Handmade by ASB so these are available for all San Marino students to purchase and then next um at lunch on Friday there will actually be food trucks and we have a different variety of food trucks and students can eat lunch with their friends and it's just a really special time for all of our students to be together and celebrate this day and then also we're having our pep rally which is also another fun event and it's going to be happening in the quad with our extended

012lunch and we really want um just school spirit to be really high that day so we're having cheer band Drumline Dance Company performing and then our football captains will also be speaking about their season and then they can just kind of talk about their goals for the rest of the season and then after school we're having our homecoming parade which is really special and that's something that I've been working a lot on planning and our main goal for this um parade this year was really including groups that don't usually get to be in the parade so we reached out to our link crew leaders and our link crew leaders are the people that help really incorporate new students and freshmen onto our school campus so this year we're also giving them the opportunity to be

013in the parade and then we also reached out to the San Marino foundation and we just wanted to recognize that all they do for the community so we also invited them to be in the parade and that's something that was really important to us this year and then some important changes that we want to talk about regarding the parade is that we're kind of straying away from riding on floats in the back of cars so instead we're really going to emphasize people walking in the parade and because of this um this week we're going to talk about shortening the parade route just so like it's more enjoyable for everyone and not as long so that's going to be happening on Friday and the next steps for us to really make sure this parade goes off

014well is I'm just working on Logistics and making sure that I have all the information to make sure that the people are allowed to drive the students and then we're also going to work on Distributing Flyers to all the businesses in our community and just kind of letting them know what's going on and when the parade is going to be happening but yeah that's basically what I've been working on and we're just really excited this year it feels like there's a lot of school spirit so we really want to make sure our students enjoy this experience thank you great thank you thank you yeah and next I believe will be football hello I am Coleman morning I'm a junior at San Marino High School I also play wide receiver and linebackers for the football team

015so the first year I played tackle football was my freshman year which was two years ago and while it was a great experience for me it got my season got cut short due to covid and along with that I didn't have a homecoming that year so last year was the first year I really got to experience that feeling our game was against Temple City last year and I think it's my favorite game of the year because not only did we win by a big amount but whenever every time I looked to the stands I saw all the fans all the students all the parents are just supporting and cheering us on so this year our game is against Paul Lee on October 7th and I'm really looking forward to this event as I love I

016love how the fans support us every year and I love playing these games for the family I am Ryan single I am a senior at San Marino High School unfortunately last year I was able to participate in the homecoming game because I tore my ACL but I did have unique experience because I did win homecoming King so I did get her I did get to ride in the parade that Sophia described it was a really unique experience as it was really fun to toss candy to the kids but uh every time I remember every time during the game I'd look up I remember all the students and parents to train on the game and it was really just a really great experience for me thank you thank you thank you boys I just wanted to

017also say you guys did a wonderful job at the City Club at the Old Mill and so great speaking and and welcome again so thank you for joining us again yeah the Parade's gonna be awesome uh and sure come on up okay good evening president Caldwell board member superintendent delatorre and executive team my name is Alexis De la Torre and this is my fourth year as a Titan cheerleader um and I'm the varsity surgery Captain with me tonight our head coach Savannah Sherman Bree kosu which is our assistant coach and then our Junior Captain Victoria Tao as we all know homecoming is a big deal in San Marino the pep rallies the praise the football games and the community coming together has been a standing tradition for years some of my favorite memories of high

018school revolve around homecoming week um the late nights the early mornings the endless posters and writing in the parade our memories that will stay with me forever we are excited to have the board and executive team in the parade this year and can't wait to see you on the field at the game thank you well I have to say um that I love the bling is the bling new this year I don't remember seeing that before oh that is a great choice I love bling and and doctor you have no idea how much she loves playing and Dr delatorre my car is clean because the girls had a wonderful car wash this past week and so I was able to um drive through so thank you well I did buy a ticket I just I

019didn't drive back but I did support so just so you know well obviously homecoming is a really wonderful tradition for all of us and um you know it's just such a great thing to see things that just happen year after year after year and almost in the same way I mean you know there's like this new mix of how you pick walking driving is such a hassle because you have to have convertibles and there seem to be fewer of those there's just a real problem but um it's great that you still put it all together um my daughter was a cheerleader and she left six o'clock in the morning I think a lot of days and didn't come home until you know who knows when and maybe not all just for cheer but a lot

020of it was because they made all the banners they did all of that stuff and it was a huge effort so I I know it's big my son played football same thing early mornings late nights so totally get it um but you know it's a terrific thing and it's great for us and the community to see that you all still love doing it and that you appreciate it and kind of get the tradition so thank you very much yes thank you to all three of you representing your respective programs um coming out tonight after school is um not easy and so thank you so much for doing what you do and creating that school spirit for everyone on campus it just wouldn't be the same without each one of you so thank you and good

021luck wow um so if you want to leave us feel free yes we know you have this is to do it's it's really scintillating in here but you know I'm sure you can fun stuff you like um okay so we'll move on to our public comment section um so the board of education has adopted board policy 9323b to ensure the Public's right to be heard in any matters pertaining to the San Bruno Unified School District persons who wish to provide public comment have three options with which to submit their comments first through an online form second request to speak during the meeting via Zoom third request to speak during the meeting in person via a public comment card if you wish to submit through an online form that period has actually closed for today the

022comments comments can be completed between 11 A.M and 3 30 PM we didn't receive any comments today so there are none through the online method if you're on zoom and you wish to request to speak during the meeting the meeting is going to pause for one minute to take requests to speak the raised hand function is used to take requests during the public comment period for online attendees the raise hand icon adds yourself to the queue for phone attendees dial Star none the speaking order will be determined based on on the order of requests received individual speakers will be muted and called to be unmuted and called to speak if you wish to request to speak during the meeting via in in person via public comment card complete the public comment card and submit the

023card to the designated Dropbox with the assistant to the superintendent which is right over there opportunities for public comment are offered prior to closed session and at the start of regular open session for matters not on the agenda and for matters on the agenda the Board of Education reserves the right to add public comment periods prior to any individual item on the agenda five minutes may be allotted to each speaker and a maximum of 20 minutes to each subject matter however in the event there are more than four speakers on the same subject matter the board president retains the discretion to adjust and limit The Limited limit the time allocated to each speaker to ensure that all wishing to speak will be heard within the 20-minute allotment Communications from the audience regret it regarding matters

024not on the agenda or items in the consent or information sections now is the time to provide your comments for items in the action section of the agenda please provide those comments as we move to the portion of the agenda related to action items do we had have any one thank you and so we have two on-school safety we don't have a school safety item so this is um so we'll list we'll hear this now um the first card is from Mackenzie Brown would you like to go good evening um I'd like to address president Caldwell um excuse me superintendent um delatorre the board executive and our student here um I prepare notes but I'm going to speak to you as a parent from the heart it came to our attention as parents at Valentine

025that last week there was an incident with a trespasser on campus and we've since learned that it was handled swiftly and appropriately which we're all grateful for but when it happened a lot of the parents we all got together were talking we reached out to each other and a Common Thread was there was a lot of facts there was a lot of misinformation and a lot of parents felt like there was a lack of communication from the administration the school or the board that was later addressed on that week but it took several days and so a few parents asked me to come speak there's another parent here as well who's going to speak um and the parents just want the board to know that absolutely school safety is Paramount and we were pleased to

026see that there are some actions going to be taken in the near future to Shore that up on our campuses but also as parents we would like more communication to us about what happens I know it's not always possible to have it in real time but we would feel better and Trust our students with this school if we knew about those instances earlier then rather kind of having to learn about it through the rumor meal if that if that's making sense um I know then I there's a strong trust in the parent community in the school and we still have that trust in the school but I know the day after kind of not knowing what happened sending my child to school that day I did have a feeling of a pit in my stomach

027I don't want to have that feeling neither do any of the other parents and I think there's measures that we could take to um to uh really build on establish that trust and also our school safety and the communication thank you thank you um and then we also have um said Vietnam um you're gonna have to say your last name for me okay good evening uh my name is father of first grade at Valentine school thank you for the opportunity uh Dr delatorre and also board members for allowing me to speak tonight as one of the other parents Miss Brown mentioned um I believe the number one priority for any parent is to ensure when your child Goes to School your child will remain safe during the school hour as many of us know by

028now Friday September 17th there was an on-house uh woman entered uh Huntington Middle School campus and ultimately I'm going to the restroom and as you may know I'm sure you know that there is also direct connection between both Valentine and Huntington middle school campuses so as a result of that some of the classroom went through the lockdown process we appreciate that there was quick action they've been taken in place and the whole thing was that dress immediately through school staff and police department having said that the reason I'm I'm here today is not to finger point at anyone um but looking forward to immediate action and protocols in place so we can find solution collaboratively to get together and in close future um this incident was actually brought to our attention last Monday by a

029parent not by a staff so it was very disappointing and for the sake of everybody's time it wasn't immediately communicated with us through as Mrs Brown mentioned through um through the staff through board through principle and after further discussion we had we balance and principal and board member just few days after there is a couple of emails which we really appreciate thank you very much Dr De la Torre for spending time with me as well um but in my humble opinion and my apologize if I'm a little bit vocal tonight but it was too late because the damage was made and this should have we shouldn't have heard this news through a parent or through a kid because there was all kind of like a chaotic situation that was and a few days after um

030also don't appreciate when I heard that there was this was not a serious incident through one of the staff that I had a communication with because I was told that that lady was in restroom for like five seconds damage can be made within five seconds five minutes five hours doesn't doesn't make sense the first question is how this individual was able to enter the campus and why nobody was able there is no security and measuring place that kind of stopped that in the individual right at the first second in front of the property line um so I would like to make some suggestions to board to mitigate Safety and Security risks if I may allow number one moving forward please if you can include as number one board meeting agenda Safety and Security of the

031school and the campus so we can discuss in further detail collaboratively secondly immediate communication protocol with parents if it can be established as soon as possible so we don't go through the same chaotic situation that we all face and there was a a little bit of um kind of like missing trust now through some parents that why the whole thing was it like why some people somebody wanted to to keep this behind the scene so this has to be very transparent transparent to collaborate and communicated with us creating a Safety and Security committee that's what I'm advocating for that I understand from Dr delatoresi she elaborated very well in her email with some of the great work that board is working behind us and that that's very very appreciated but I think um if we

032can have like a safety security community and including parents because parents and their children they deal with this in day to day we hear from children we hear from from from um some of the teachers they send us email there was an incident today such and such happened so there's a lot of things we are pretty much our kids are end user of this product it doesn't matter if you're getting the best consultant in the world coming and help us to put all the this mitigation risk or measures in place but usually hearing from end user makes a huge difference from my profession um number four um I've managed I'm project manager for major Transit projects I work for different government agencies and when it comes to to that the number one priority is Public

033Safety so from from my basic knowledge I can assure you that our school is absolutely unsafe for our kids and I can give you some example of my observation so I've seen Gates have been left open Valentine has different Gates on the North side on the west side there are two gates the main main entrance get there's one close to the playground which a lot of islands keep it open I've seen during the weekends weekdays on the South Side pretty much there's really no gate between as I mentioned earlier between Valentine and Huntington there's there's nothing Huntington middle school has has nothing there's like a temporary fence that somebody can get into you know the basketball court and the baseball court and eventually end up going to Valentine so I've seen like a temporary fencer

034but I do not believe that is enough um fences are short and they're easy to climb there's not enough cameras nor enough monitoring these screens and through a couple of conversations that previously I've brought to staff attention that cases are left open doesn't seem to be enough training my apologies maybe their trainings but from what they've been reacting to to the to my observation I didn't see serious um actions being taken by this staff um I was myself able to enter two Valentine property through the other Gates and unintentionally because I parked somewhere that was closer to the other again and I was like I went all the way to the classroom because there was like last year there was a party at the end of the year and I was like why did anybody

035stop me and that gate was open why nobody closed her so I I went to the front office and I raised that to this staff again going back I'm like the gate is still open it's been one hour nobody and and I took picture and send it to the principal back in the day um [Music] principals yes um so so this this type of things I think staff should be taking immediate action and also parents should also be educated we are We Are One Community that's what I'm trying to say like everybody needs to be accountable and responsible I've seen parents keeping the gates open for some other strangers getting to the property so I think that seems to be also uh brought to parents attention um number five I wanted to talk about is

036we are not also looking for Band-Aid Solutions I understand this might be like becoming like a huge project addressing all of these um but I apologize to interrupt but I just wanted to let the board know that it has been over five minutes and um it is the four presidents I appreciate so if there any budget concerns for that I would really appreciate that this can be re-prioritized because I personally I would be happy if my son get a plus but if there if if every day doesn't back up my mind um that he is studying in a place that there are some unsafe situations so that would really worry me as the parents and ultimately we don't want that an incident happened that the board or school this reliability that cause people's life and

037millions and millions of dollars of liability and accountability so anything that we collaborate we can work as a community it would be very very appreciated thank you very much thank you um we didn't hold yet for we do have a zoom audience so if I may uh may I pause the meeting for one minute to take those requests okay we are pausing for one minute to take requests to speak regarding matters that are not on the agenda or items that are in the consent information or action sections of the agenda if you'd like to make a request to speak please press the raise hand icon now or dial Star 9 if you are joining by phone and for those that may wish to also be included May submit a public comment card as well foreign

038seconds remaining if you'd like to make a request to speak please press the raise hand icon or dial Star 9. thank you okay president Carl we don't have any requests thank you um so we're gonna amend our practice just a little bit here tonight um we don't generally respond to comments that we get that aren't on the agenda um but tonight we're going to and it's not so much a response as it is a bit of a statement um and I asked Linda while you were talking I wasn't trying to be rude so I apologize in advance if she would um just speak a little bit to that obviously safety is all of our top concerns and it just seems appropriate that we take a minute and re-emphasize that and talk a little bit about

039what we're doing both in the immediate and long terms and so um our superintendent has been very busy working on that and I just thought it would be helpful if she shared a little bit she actually intended to do this a little bit later in the agenda but timing's everything and so I this is now thank you so much for the opportunity you to discuss this now I did intend to talk about school safety during the superintendent's comments this evening but I will do so now I want to reiterate that safety is the most important thing that we do in San Marino schools our Board of Education our executive team is exceptionally concerned about student safety we know we recognize that without that nothing else can happen learning can't take place if kids aren't safe

040um that has been at the top of our priority list for quite some time now and I just want to talk a little bit about what the school district has been doing behind the scenes and I also want to thank um both of you for coming out this evening and for making public comments on safety because it does take a village and it will take the entire Community to work together to continue to keep our kids safe so with that um I mentioned some of these things in my communication to the community so forgive the redundancy but I think it is important to talk about all of these things again we have been prioritizing safety by making sure that every single one of our employees has training on August 8th we had a Harvard trained

041forensic psychologist who is formerly the deputy director for the Los Angeles County Mental Health health department and he specializes in school violence prevention and threat assessment he has provided us with threat assessment training and school violence prevention active shooter training in addition to that we had an active member of the FBI come out in the afternoon and provide training on those topics as well which was I believe very impactful and that is step one in our training for this school year as we go forward also there's a a training called Alice training you can look that up a-l-i-c-e that we have been engaging our elementary teachers in we have just signed a requisition to continue to provide that training to our elementary schools this year um this year we are going to include our chief

042of police and our chief of fire in the school site Council meetings so that they can be in on the ground floor of developing our safety plans and they also want to ensure that we have an arm that includes active shooter and we need to make sure that we are doing everything within our power to keep the the School site safe and make sure that we are preventing those incidents from happening and a lot of times that starts with threat assessment training um we also have an app on all of our phones that has been downloaded across the board called catapult and anytime there is an incident on any of our campuses our staff is trained to use that app to alert other people on the campus other adults on the campus to a unidentified

043person on campus um or something going on whatever it may be we can use that app we can use that app for natural disasters if there's an earthquake if there's a fire if there's an accident near the campus we can report that via catapult that message goes out to everybody's cell phones and they are alerted immediately to whatever is happening so if you have um somebody who is on campus that shouldn't be you use catapult you send that message out all the teachers know they need to lock their doors and keep their kids safe make sure you know where everyone is um so we are doing those things as we speak um fancy is happening um as soon as it possibly can happen we had a contractor come out and take measurements was that yesterday

044yesterday so we're on that we're going to make sure that that Huntington Middle School temporary fencing that is in place um in front of the admin office is replaced with permanent fencing um that that will blend in with the fencing that is currently in front of the Barth Athletics complex we're aware of Sherwood Road being an issue we're going to have a fence installed um at the entrance to the driveway um so that the the shorter fence that surrounds the baseball field is not even going to be an issue because you're not even going to be able to get onto campus because of the fence um in front of the driveway we are also going to install a gate slash fence in between the two campuses Huntington middle school and Valentine elementary school that is

045very much like the the gate that we have in between the two campuses on the north side of the school and so that's going to be on the um the south side of the school so that people cannot access both campuses easily at all so there are things that we have already put into play to even further make our campuses uh safer places for our children that we know that the response time from snpd is exceptional in our community it's two or three minutes from any uh location within the city so to Huntington and Valentine it's it's probably more like two minutes and when we speak of the incident that occurred last week it coincidentally San Marino Police Department was on our school campus at the time so they have an interest in keeping our

046schools safe as well and have committed to providing regular patrols of all four of our campuses during school hours and so they they are not on any set schedule they show up when they show up but they show up more frequently than ever before we want to do that for two reasons number one to keep our kids safe and number two so that our children's see police officers in a positive light and that they're not they don't fear them for any reason because they're just you know they're they're good guys not bad guys and they're on our campuses more frequently for those reasons and it's been very effective um we are looking at updating our security cameras to include Advanced Technologies there are security cameras now and our executive team we were looking at this

047last week I think that will detect and identify when there is a weapon on campus in your parking lot so if you have a revolver a handgun a shotgun in the parking lot of Huntington Middle School it will alert not only School Personnel but it will alert the Police Department that moment as soon as it's detected and it's got a very high accuracy rate and is being used in other areas so that's something that Dr Choi is going to be reviewing and looking into you know we have security cameras throughout the district currently we're going to enhance the security cameras that we currently have at Huntington middle school so that in the front where the gate is there will be a security camera there and screens put up in the office so that staff can

048monitor visitors coming to that gate to have access to the campus and so that is similar to what we are doing at Carver and Valentine elementary schools they have you know the gate the buzzer you have to get buzzed in to those schools and the administrative assistant in the school office can see because there's a security camera pointed at you people who are coming up to the gate and so they want to make sure that it's somebody that we want to allow access to we also have the Raptor system at each of our campuses where if you're a visitor you have to show your identification and the Raptor system does a background check to make sure that you don't have um a felony conviction that you're not a you're not on Megan's list as an

049example and so it will clear you or not clear you if you're not clear the principal will come out and have a polite conversation with you but you will not be allowed access to our schools um if you're cleared you know you get a badge or a sticker or something and then you're allowed access onto the campus and so we have layers and layers of security that did not exist a couple years ago that we have been putting into place um as far as the gates being left open that is something that we are working really hard on and we need everyone to work together on that we have outside users that use our um campuses before and after school there's a variety of of groups that meet on school grounds before and after school

050and so we have reminded them to make sure that they are closing those Gates um the other day when I went out to take pictures of all the areas that may present as areas of vulnerability um there were lots of gates open but we had outside users on our campuses we had little league right we had Crown City I could see kids playing soccer out there and baseball and so we have um an obligation and responsibility to allow outside users to have access to our campus um and and so those are times when school's not in session um and kids are able to come on to our school grounds for other purposes but they're supervised by adults so we're working on the the keeping Gates closed thing but we have to remind parents and our

051teachers and kids that when the gates open you see the gate open please you know close it so we're going to be working on all of those things as well um we have a an agreement with a joint Regional Intelligence Center to come out and review our campuses and give us a detailed assessment of what we can do to enhance the physical security of each one of our campuses and that's happening in October and in November and um when those recommendations come back I will be having conversations with the board of education but I can tell you that the board of education is extremely interested in making sure that we continue to seek out any and all opportunities to make sure that our campuses are safe clean and healthy spaces for kids to learn so

052the work is not done but we're going as fast as we can in terms of the communication issue that was it was acknowledged that that didn't happen right away um and the principal did make a commitment to make sure that she will communicate with all parents in the future as expeditiously as possible and I just want to say that sometimes we don't talk enough about what we're doing related to school security and that's intentional it's intentional because we don't want to advertise to somebody out there who might be a bad guy with ill intentions what we're doing so that they can counteract that and so I I do feel like our parents deserve to know what's going on there is nothing more precious than your child and I'm a parent and a grandparent and I

053I empathize and I I really do care about all kids in San Marino schools I want to make sure they're safe so I will make it my mission to make sure that happens and I also um you know want to say that the school principal did not mean to hide anything that was in her intention she wasn't trying to um you know not communicate with parents she just simply didn't know what the protocol is and Sam right now and in San Marino our parents want to know and we communicate with our parents and so that is going to happen in the future I I guarantee it so in that regard can I leave anything out well I think just onboarding you know so if you're a principal or do yeah you're sort of in the

054onboarding yes exactly so there's not a question yes she felt very badly about that and she did send something out to parents letting them know I think it was the last sentence in her communication that she will respond in a timely manner in the future on the prison uh in a couple territory are mentioned about we do have a piece required Safety Committee yes we do that's true we do have a district-wide um you're absolutely right Mr Chang thank you um Safety Committee that gets together and we have representatives from each of the schools that are involved in either the School site safety plan or um they are involved in safety training in some way but they come together um periodically and they meet and they talk about issues of concern that need to be

055addressed and so um that is something that is ongoing in addition to that we have Crisis Intervention teams at each of our schools and we have a multi-disciplinary threat assessment team at the district level comprised of Administrators um counselors psychologists um our legal counsel our police chief a commander our fire chief um and did I say counselors counselor yeah counselors and we all get together and if there is a Potential Threat um we work through that threat very systematically to make sure that we're doing everything um within our power to um provide supports to an individual who may need them also we have wellness centers which um Mrs alhandy is going to be talking about this evening at both the middle school and the high school and at the elementary school we do have an

056elementary school counselor which is very helpful and a lot of districts don't have an elementary school counselor so we're very fortunate in that regard we're doing everything within our power to really um I don't want for lack of a better term I was going to say attack this from all sides but that's probably not the right word that I'm looking for but we really really did peripheral command and control this from thank you from all sides and so and and we have all the right Partners on this I mean in most school districts they don't have the ability to pick up the phone and call the police chief or the fire chief on their cell phone um at six seven eight o'clock at night and we do we have that relationship here so I mean

057we have a community that's so close-knit if anything happens here you know we're gonna know about it and the relationship and the commitment to our kids Citywide is amazing uh you don't see that in any other place so we're grateful for that and and that is how we're going to continue to keep our kids safe thank you very much sure thank you both for coming tonight speaking this um thank you Linda appreciate it you're welcome okay so um there'll certainly be a lot more about security as we go through um and maybe we'll come up with a way we can communicate critical things without sharing so much it sure is like giving plans away yeah um so we're going to move to the public hearing section of our agenda now um I know you're acting

058on Dr Richter's behalf so would you like to take care of the first item yes I would and this is the public hearing sufficiency of Texas let me just make sure I'm on the right item sorry um okay um Dr Richter was unable to uh be here this evening she had a family emergency that she needed to take care of so um president Caldwell members of the Board of Education student board member Trent and uh executive team the San Marino Unified School District Board of Education is holding a public hearing this evening on the sufficiency of instructional materials within the school district the hearing is in compliance with Education Code section 60119 which requires the governing board of each School District to hold such a hearing each fiscal year um Dr Choi please pause the

059meeting for one minute to collect comments thank you we're pausing for one minute to take requests to speak regarding the public hearing and sufficiency of textbooks and instructional materials if you'd like to make a request to speak please press the raise hand icon or dial Star nine 30 seconds remain if you'd like to make a request to speak please press the right hand icon or dial Star 9. okay we have no requests to speak thank you so that's it that's the whole hearing right there yeah there were no public comments so we can move for the next time right so then um Dr Lynn I think you have the next item thank you and your evening uh bull president Caldwell members of the Board of Education Center the team is student board member Kelly for

060item 9B the board of education is requested to convene a public hearing for the purpose of receiving information relative to the topic of AD 1200 public disclosure of collective bargaining agreements in response to a tentative agreement with smta for the 22-23 fiscal year Dr Choi please pause the meeting for one minute thank you Dr Lynn we're pausing for one minute to take requests to speak concerning the public hearing and comments on the ab1200 public disclosure of collective bargaining agreement if you'd like to make a request to speak please press the raise hand icon or dial Star 9. 30 seconds remain if you'd like to make a request to speak please press the raise hand icon or dial Star 9. foreign thank you so with that we'll move on to our consent section um do I

061have a motion to approve our consent agenda move to approve the consent agenda with the exception of item 10j the instructional minutes for San Marino High School I apologize but it's actually incorrectly listing not listing the last day of school ending at 12 p.m so I think that needs to be corrected so we're just going to pull that last one for now and deal with the rest of it can can we pull it and then talk about it separately is that possible you mean tonight yeah I think Jason is on the line and I don't know that no I think I feel like there's a lot of questions okay I mean we can as we can discuss the consent agenda specifically on that item if Mr curtain box on the line we can ask any

062questions we can get those answers he is for that purpose so I it's up to the board what you guys want to do I think that they're I think for that reason the loading uses a pulled item is because it's not correct and there are other outstanding questions around some changes that were made from a prior copy yes but I have a feeling that those have their own answers administratively okay that I don't necessarily think the Board needs to have a full discussion on okay did we just want to confirm with uh Carlos the time the the 12 o'clock because we do end at 12 on the last day of school can we just ask him that question because that's the the overarching right reason that we're pulling it right okay so can you ask

063Mr kurtenbach to join us please uh Mr kurtenbach is online I'm here so um we so the question is the um end time on the last day of school um the board believes the end time is noon and I think the document that we have here assumes 1 30. so it's to clarify that yes that is a minimum day to support our finals it's our last day of finals periods uh three and six also for a date account as apportionment in grades four through twelve has to have a minimum of 240 minutes and I have 265 I think or 270 I can't remember which one so what time is the last day of school end um for for me 1 30. but it depends on your start time uh in in determination of whether or

064not the period your your minimum days as they are according to Ed code have to be 240 minutes the only exceptions are kids in the 11th and 12th grade who are enrolled in a college course that's approved by the school site so I think um so so the belief among the board members who were here last year believed last year the last day of school ended at 12 at noon and I think the only change is that the start of school went from 8 to 8 30 right so that's 30 minute difference and we're an hour and a half more at the end of the day so that part's not lining up for us is that right am I following this right yeah so last year last year I have in the instructional minutes report

065that our day ended at 12 30 went from 8 until 12 30. my day goes from 8 30 to 1 30. so it's an adjustment of 30 minutes paste based again on that law that I stated I have to have 240 minutes minimally for it to count as an apportionment day so he so he's saying that the high school ends at 1 30 on the last day of school no matter what happens on the other campuses high school that's what I'm hearing yeah but it's still the math doesn't run right it's four and a half hours last year from start to finish and this year it's five well that I mean that I understand that but that wouldn't necessarily matter as long as he's saying that his school ends at 1 30. but the question

066is whether high school ends on its last day at noon or at 1 30 and Mr kurtenbach is saying it ends at 1 30 on the last day of school is that correct Mr curtinbach yes okay so so then the question is with that do these minutes add up so that it can be approved well that our staff has confirmed yes so yes I think the other question that President Caldwell is alluding to was when I had as well and that the day the minimum days are now 1 30 P.M which I understand would make sense if it doesn't make sense to me that we're ending at 1 30 PM which is an hour later than our previous minimum Day schedule which ended at 12 30 p.m when we only are doing a half hour

067later start now so why are we are required to have a certain amount of instructional minutes so you'll notice I know the other question is where'd all the minimum days go from the first one well once I got my math correct we had less minimum days to work with we're pretty much pumped out in terms of minutes we could maybe squeeze another minimum day or a late start but those minutes um are necessary for apportionment we can make adjustments but then we can't have as many minimum days or late starts because we'll lose instructional minutes so for example if I make them all let's just say a flat 240 I'm losing most of the instructional minutes that I need to clear 64 800. so if I adjust the dismissal time down to I don't know

068let's say 12 or 1 o'clock so it's a a 30 minute move I still don't have enough minutes anymore so you have 114 minutes to work with over the course of the whole year so exactly so it sounds like the minimum days are now ending at 1 30 instead of 12 30 to accommodate that we need to have 240 minutes to for proportionate purposes as well as meet the total required number during the school year so it's just the total minutes during the year and in the day change so did the minutes change from last year to this year the number of required minutes no the required minutes didn't but when we adjusted the bell schedule we took a minute off of each passing excuse me passing period which resulted in a six minute per

069day loss which we had to make up because passing periods are construed are considered instructional minutes yeah we need to reconcile this like what happened from last Friday this year so that we can explain it yeah yeah so it's that change in the schedule the passing periods okay so we made it up with extending minimum days okay correct so and it's a 1 30 is the last day of school for the high school only the other schools instructional minutes have them ending at 12 p.m on the last day of school and finals that last week depending depending on when they start that's fine and most of them have far fewer instructional minutes than the high school is required to have well the it's not just 1 30 on the last day of school although what

070you said is correct but it's 1 30 on everything right yep so high school parents speak minimum day now means 1 30 not 12 30. so I think we just need to communicate that out and explain it to parents so that they don't um get confused and I can and since that is a change I'm I'm sure that the high school administration will get that out to parents so with that then we do not need to pull this from the consent agenda it stands as correct okay so with that I moved to approve the consent agenda all items okay thank you Joseph um any further discussion okay Kelly yes Mike hi Joseph aye Jane hi Shelly aye Genie I all right sorry consent agenda passes thank you principal kurtenbach you're welcome I'm gonna stay on

071the line yeah okay um so now I'd like to move to our communication section beginning with our Board of Education um Mike would you like to start uh sure thanks um so I did receive uh multiple Communications uh from parents regarding school safety which we um discussed um very well tonight so I I thank uh Dr De la Torre for that report um uh and I also uh would like to thank the two parents that did speak up tonight because obviously school safety is very important and um and it's it's not only important that the parents know but it's also important that parents do come to the board to make sure the board knows um because uh the safety of all of our kids is is Paramount so thank you very much for speaking up

072on that um in addition I uh I spent last weekend um uh judging for the Jack Howell tournament for the uh speech and debate team for our high school and um we had some great performances and um so some of our students did very very well uh and that was great um I also had a very good uh productive meeting was was invited to participate in a meeting with Dr De la Torre and Dr Richter regarding our cast scores which was very informative so thank you very much for that um and there was um like like any good strategy meeting there was uh good news and and there was uh plans to improve I like the way you phrase it always yeah so um but but the good news is is is uh which I'm

073sure will be shared in more detail is that um our students uh continue to perform at a very high level um and so uh that is a testament not only to our our students and to their families and uh to our teachers um and and all the hard work uh both with the administrators and particularly with the teachers so I want to thank everybody on the team uh for the great education the students receiving um also it's an exciting week uh for 8th graders I I know an eighth grader that is uh not home tonight because he's at Pally um and so I know that they're having a lot of fun I'm seeing photographs of a lot of zip lining um not just the students but I'll also some of the teachers as well I

074think I saw a video of Miss Nita zip lining as well so that was that was fun to watch um and then of course I am looking forward to the homecoming um and and continuing again to work uh in the snack bar so that we can encourage everybody to please come with all your money and buy all the food you can so that we can raise all the money we can for uh the junior advisory boards uh because they are raising money through the snack bar at the football games for their prom and so um I'm looking forward to uh to that as well thank you thank you Joseph uh September 17th Saturday I attend someone in a high school around everybody thank you for the uh for this wonderful part week and also thank

075you for all the time for high school [Music] a county school trustee Association virtual meeting the issue is the bank issue I thought I will get some technology to prepare for our future discussion but unfortunately I don't feel that I get any new idea and then September 20 um Tuesday um csba recently representative to validate our [Music] uh of which uh we uh submit the uh covid-19 comprise the subject so they accept as a finalist I think this a good meeting and both a party and they exchange q a and thank you for Dr Steve your people preparation is a very sufficient and also I think the the feature is a approved what we did here and at the end the Same Day Afternoon the school days we give the Lujan reception and thank you

076for the loo I think it's been seven years she's as a liaison for especially for the non-speak uh uh English uh the parent yeah I think a lot that did a lot of dedication and then the September 20 on Tuesday night City Club invited Mitch Layman as a speaker the the interesting point Dimension about the theory in the covid-19 stage how our athlete the the function yeah so so I I think Dr Choi I think that the topic that can come back to you know the covid-19 compliance I think I think it should be a very uh to a Touch story we don't know when another virus will come again and then the uh September 21st I attend the Huntington Medical Research Institute for meeting the real animation about all this you know the uh

077our Institute is being 70 anniversary this year so during the this four meeting we both to approve uh have a education committee because we've been served for the students but we we don't have a committee we have a like a pi committee uh research committee but but we need to set up the education committee I think in the future we have also benefit to our San manino Unified School District because with the education committee and trying to utilize the resource you know the offered some internship for the college student and also high school students and also accept the four-star Fellowship yeah so uh so I I I we are in the uh the link [Music] territory with the HDMI president and then yesterday I am happy you know I'm with Mike hiraki you know we

078are close to the zoo meeting so the uh Dr Richter gave us some update information about the Caps the data review I I'm glad we still keep the the the our normal standard yeah we did not behind thank you for all the teacher teaching and the velocity um I since there's a public comment and talk about the safety issue as you as you know the or my 21 year I I'm always make available you know during the daytime and serve as a representative for the Safety Committee so so this community uh if nothing happened look like maybe people think oh it's not the not in a prior type as like academic but but if something happened suddenly they will be like a spotlight you know people will open the eye so so I I think

079this they know how important for the safety issue so so we we've been always take a priority uh to to try to achieve the goal but but some things they still there I think the top we need to understand why we need a bang why we need a bank because with a a new bank we can resolve some of the function issue of all the structure about the floor plan make sure you know the The Outsider cannot get in so so I I just want to emphasize and and I know the sun uh listen uh probably in the zoom yeah we always think this is the number one in the school this week and then academic okay thank you academic Arts Athletics and activities just that's what our goals are okay sorry um so I'm

080gonna just go off over real quickly not fun stuff was uh PTA meetings in Foxfield no offense uh it's not that you're not fine um and I also attended a San Marino schools Foundation budget presentation meeting a meeting with a bachelor presentation with Dr Lynn uh which was very informative and yielded a very fruitful discussion um a couple fun things were the Carver picnic and the San Marino High School parent party great for building Community um to have these things in the fall is just an opportunity for everybody to socialize and get to know each other on another level and then Dr Choi has a picture I asked him to pull up and uh one really fun thing was attending last week with some of our with Dr Rose and Dr De la Torre and

081Miss Coda and Mr Mizrahi and his wife Claudia and this was uh really just an adorable little picture that they took and you can tell from the smile on his face he just was so thrilled and she was so proud of him um it was really nice to see her there as well because you could tell that she was just really pleased to see all of the time and effort he puts into his students recognized and it was nice to be at a live in-person event so although I was there in president Caldwell stead I was grateful to have attended because to see 66 I believe teachers be honored at an event after not being able to have these things in person was just really um inspirational because it really is an amazing thing that

082the teachers are doing for our students so just wanted to share that fun little shot thank you for representing us um Shelley would you like to go next yes thank you president Caldwell so I want to thank the city for hosting through parks and recs their annual dog party which was held at Lacey Park a member of my family enjoyed it very much on a Saturday morning almost couldn't get him to come home uh San Marino High School parent party thank you to sing the single family for opening up their beautiful home to us and while Carlos is here thank you Carlos for offering up your parking space that wasn't a hard get and I want to thank you and I know that the parents had a great time that evening I continue to volunteer

083at the Huntington Hospital so twice a month and um congratulations goes to Mr Chang Dr Choi for their outstanding work Mr Chang your tireless commitment to safety and and this safety I'm referring to um has to do with covet but just generally um the amount of hours that the two of you guys as well as our cabinet and staff put to supporting all of the initiatives that bring about um such an award as Golden Bell is not something that you just kind of get it's something you have to work at a year long and so congratulations for that and also I want to thank Miss Jang for her years of service to the Chinese Community for her enrollment for her translations for all of the things that she did for our school district we will

084miss miss Jang dearly City Club hosted at the Old Mill and we heard Mitch Layman talk and he invited a lot of athletes and he's such a good speaker he kind of brings the community draws Us in to his stories and we learn learned a lot about his growing up and his passion for calling games as well as his passion for sports I can't believe that he's still playing volleyball so I hope Mitch is listening when I'm talking I continue to serve on the friends of Crowell public library and I want to wish our families a happy raw shashana this week and so that ends my reborn thank you so I just have a couple of notes I received several Communications over the last couple of weeks with from family members with regard to school

085safety and a change in a second grade teacher at Valentine and I appreciate those those parents reaching out to me and others on the board I also attended the Golden Bell um I don't know I think I'm going to call it an interview because that's sort of what it felt like um but it was um I I wasn't here on the board during covets so for many of you this is stuff you'd already seen and you know we're very well aware of um I um do get all of the communications you know both before and after I came back um and I am you know obviously very friendly with a number of you and others and so I heard a lot about what was going on during covet but you know I think more than

086anything sitting in there and listening to the presentation and talking to some of the folks that were you know part of our team who put it together um I mean it's really extraordinary what we were able to do there's actually a second Francesca Gill that really threw me um she was really extraordinary in all of this and I'm sure you would have been too but like it was just like what they're too I just really couldn't believe that and um you know so that was actually kind of interesting but um but I I I know that we're going to have an opportunity to talk about this again soon and you know I hope that it's all in celebration but you know Golden Bell Assad I mean that's great but what we did was like I

087mean this is one of those where it really doesn't matter whether we get the award we won the abroads like at the end of the day and so I really wanted us to be able to talk about that so I've asked Linda to um you know to add that to our agenda in the near future and we'll have a lot more discussion about it then um so with that why don't we move on to you Kelly and you can give us your update so um at Carver um they're starting to implement field trips on and off campus for all grade levels and that will be soon and after this they all started that after school ban in Orchestra so I actually started today and it's hosted by Encore which is a partnership like um private

088partners with the music program to have that available for students and they ran out their instruments from HMS and their performances will be scheduled in the spring and also at Carver and Valentine the band members came to perform and play with students and um they also played at Carver they played with students during recess and they performed after that and Dr Chipotle can you project the Carver band folders so I was able to get um photos of just the students playing so this is the students playing basketball just the band members in the uniform and then these are the students playing handball and just like lighting up and I've been a long time ever since I've seen that and this is on the monkey bars too to play with students so and this is their

089performance so whenever they perform they just walk in in their formation and the next slide is um oh they're also playing handball this is students playing for the conference to talk about and these are all the students under tents watching the performances and then um at HMS the students um the sixth grade students as I mentioned last week went to the camp Korea kuyamaca and it is in San Diego and these are photos of activities that occurred there so I guess they're just playing ball in a pit and then they went bouldering in that photo quite scary and this is um where they ate together and then the next photo is oh yeah they also went hiking so there's a whole group of sixth graders hiking up and then is there any more I think

090that's all and then um this week our 8th grader went to the outdoor education empowering Institute and um they left yesterday and as you heard and the board members they did go ziplining so this is the activity that they do outside of the term and it's just like a team building activity so you can tell some people are on the ground and then some people are talking to each other so I'm sure they had a lot of fun and then the next photo is system hiking and you can see I also hike this the slopes sometimes are pretty steep so as you can see some students are tired they actually had a great time and this is in um they have barracks in the back and basically students go and sometimes they learn they not

091only do like outdoor education activities but they also learn about stuff and sometimes they sit down and they have one of the counselors or the people who work there talk about stuff and then the students learn from that and then here's a picture of a student ziplining really really great Heights but yes and then I think that's all yes and then also at HMS there was um the good citizenship breakfast is a monthly breakfast for students nominated by teachers and or staff and they're nominated based on this month's category which is responsibility and 21 students were nominated so you will probably see that in the Tribune coming soon on top of that there is a sixth grade urologist it was we have to say thank you to the PTA at Huntington middle school for organizing

092now all the sixth graders had a lot of fun and it was a successful event um at Valentine on October 2nd which is coming up they will be having the Valentine's Day from 11 A.M to 3 P.M they'll have games games rise prices food and fun the theme of the night is um I think Night at the Museum and there has been a lot of patience so far at the high school we've obviously been preparing for homecoming and the coronation dance coming up so it's been really busy but as the 18 ISD got everything they need so far if things don't change um on September 16th titanium robotics had a movie night and they played Big Hero 6 and they had games which students can buy tickets to play the games and this was in

093order to support Camp Del Corazon a non-profit that helps students with heart disease go to Camp I'm pretty sure it's in Catalina and it takes 1 500 different one kid and the money is used for the equipment it takes for the students to go to the camp the nurses the doctors and we were able to raise 1 800 that night so that was a success and I think last Friday we had our full assembly so during our fall assembly we had our performance groups like uh of cheer dance company and yes and then the captains of we also introduced our passports so we had our four captains play a game of musical chair um and the dance company their performances I think is choreographed by their captains I started sing-sing and you can go find

094the dance on their Instagram and at the very end we had a kahoot game and prizes to encourage students to like to participate in the assembly so it was fun all around and that's all for the oh and there's one more um I forgot to mention this but it's already on the agenda but Huntington middle school now has a wellness Lounge so it's near the back and basically students can go in and they can have like an online counseling session being referred to Mrs Gonzalez or they can go in and work with them um intern there shared by the high school and I don't want to get too much into it but um I'm just really thankful we have a Wellness Center about the high school and the middle school because I did my campus

095tour with Dr Lin the past Friday and one of the things I highlighted it was a wellness center and it was relative it was well received by all the parents and the students did just how they can come in the wellness center when they're feeling anxious and that was one of the ways I answered the question so I think when parents asked me um since uh Samira Samuel High School in particular such a high achieving High School how do students deal with academic pressure academic stress and I actually referred them to the wellness center because there'll always be Administration staff and even your peers supporting you so even if they seem like the top of their class they're always willing to help you out give you like emotional support and just even share the resources

096with you so it's I'm really thankful we have a Wellness Center at the Seminole High School I want to thank you for that and the pictures those were great it was kind of nice to see what you're talking about so thanks for bringing those in today um so Dr delatorre would you like to thank you madam president um I'm going to be very brief because I talked a lot about safety earlier out of order and so I just want to Echo what um vice president Sean said about the teacher of the year luncheon last Friday wherein one of our outstanding rock star teachers Matthew Mizrahi was honored as our San Marino Unified School District teacher of the year and it was a very special um occasion and he was so incredibly grateful and um Mrs

097Chan you said it his wife was just beaming with pride and it was really very nice to have you there and we missed you president uh we missed you being there but it was really really a wonderful opportunity to celebrate uh teaching at its best and I am so proud of him and and the work that he's doing at San Marino High School so that was um very memorable and what we would like to do this year is at the end of the year breakfast we're going to invite our teacher of the year to um to deliver a speech and we're going to do that every year from here on out it's a really wonderful tradition that we would like to start and I know that he will do a wonderful job so you can

098look forward to that and I will pass it back to you oh well thank you okay so with that um and your segue into the Wellness Center um I'd like to ask Mrs El Hindi oh or maybe not are you going to do the introduction go for it that's what he's been waiting for oh well then do two introductions I don't know once again also she'll shout out to uh uh student board member Trin she also gave our first uh School Tour on Friday um it helps kind of revamp our agenda and how we're going to do those tours and did it go well awesome I heard it went really well so thank you um so once again uh president Caldwell members of the board superintendent Dr delatorre um and executive team and of course

099student board member Trin uh the goal of our Wellness Center is to provide individualized and mental health support to our students which now includes all smusd campuses not just smhs as you'll see in tonight's presentation our Wellness Center has greatly expanded its reach and services over the last two years this is due largely to the work of missile handy and her collaboration with smhs counselors and the administrations from each campus we are excited to share this information with you tonight because it's an important added support that our students did not have easy access to previously please welcome Mr Hindi to share more about the wellness center Miss lavender good evening thank you so much for having me anytime anyone wants to hear about the Welcome Center I love to come out and speak to all

100the wonderful amazing things that we're accomplishing on a day to day so today at the high school was no exception we had walk-ins we had students that needed some immediate support we helped give some nice soft Kleenex to some tears we're really there meeting the needs of the students and we're so privileged to have the opportunity to do that every day so again I appreciate the opportunity to share information this is a brief presentation and if you would like any additional data you can always feel free to request that from myself and we could put that together for you um so here's just a little bit of snapshot of what we want to achieve so we want to be a place for students to come in and walk in for immediate crisis needs and we

101want to be able to meet their needs long term if need be so our goal is to immediately support them to get them back to their academic learning space but then also we recognize nice that oftentimes there are challenges that take more time to resolve and so that's where we want to have our ongoing school-based Mental Health Services for them so this year this is our team as you can see I have five mft trainees and mft trainees are students who are currently getting their marriage and family therapy education and then we also have Vivi Wang who is our new data technician so she has been instrumental so our team is is kind of it Ebbs and flows depending on what are the needs of our students at each particular school year so this year

102we have five mft trainees but what's important to point out is that they're all with us for at least one year if not greater so what I have been found because we have such a wealth of students who need support and such a great learning environment that we actually have trainees that choose to stay on longer with us so they have the opportunity what is required for their licensure is to be able to get 500 children and family hours and a school setting is the optimal place to get those 500 hours so we have our attorneys that want to extend past their 12 months to make sure that they have achieved all of those hours so that way they can go on to pursue licensure wherever they end up so that's important to note because

103we're doing such amazing things and our trainees are feeling such purpose from the work that we're doing and our families are really taking advantage of having that one-on-one person who's working with them and the family so this is just a little bit of a snapshot of what we do and what school-based mental health services looks like so we have students that gauge in long-term services with us but we also look to connect them with partner agencies if it's appropriate so this school year we already have two clients who are with Chinatown service center which is wonderful that we are able to provide a space for their clinicians to come on campus and meet with students and that we're able to meet the language needs of our families so that's where we look towards our partner

104agencies for that connection in addition when we do send families to Chinatown service center there is no cost so they don't Bill our families it doesn't matter if they have private insurance or no insurance they have resources for them which makes it really comfortable for families because we do find that there are some that have some financial needs as well as we have those intimate conversations in the Wellness Center so here is a breakdown of our referrals and we've also included this school year and actually if you can see for 20 2022 it says 65 actually in the couple of weeks of preparing this presentation we're at 70. so what we see if you look at the data so that the top line is this school year and what you can see at even the

105elementary schools this school year we've surpassed the first year so I am a little concerned if we continue on this trend however at the same time families are feeling more and more comfortable of reaching out to us and asking for support so that's something that we absolutely want to see so if you look that bottom line is our first year and we were all virtual so it was really based on please open the email and get the information I did some pop into Zoom classes but it was really difficult to get the word out so what we're finding this year is that students are referring more students more students are self-referring more parents are reaching out directly on their own and so that's really what we want to see so if you look at the

106numbers of who made the referral that's the bar graph TWC is the Titan Wellness Center which means we made the referral so that means the family had walked in the student had walked in the parent maybe sent a direct email the parent reached out via email the student reached out via email anything that it came through us that we made referral because we found that there was a need for the family and the student and then we have the counselors who made referrals students and students referring a friend um parent and guardian and administration so it's interesting when you look at that Trend what we're seeing is that as I said student referring another student and students referring selves is increasing and we see it Administration staff is going down and that means because we

107have other staff and other avenues that are interfacing with those kids so that's absolutely something that we want to see over on the column it's kind of a little bit difficult to see but those are the top five reasons that someone is referring so one of the number one reasons is difficulties associated with anxiety so that could be that the student is experiencing that it could be due to academic stress but more often than not it's interpersonal or it has to do with their family relationships so that is one of the number one reasons um as well as mood affect emotional regulation Stress Management difficulty with peers and family relationships so I think the important thing to note is it doesn't say academic problems on there although that is an item that you can check

108on the referral so what we're seeing is our students need support in other areas and they tend to do really well academically and we have the data to support that I'm sorry what is peers peers like student to student right but why is there having difficulty with peers with other peers so we also have students who end up in the wellness center because they don't feel like they're connected so they don't have close friends they don't share any interpersonal information really Beyond academics okay and so we find that a lot of students when they come to the wellness center they actually Express loneliness so this is really helpful information to see this is parents and students who agreed to services so the bottom um is it the two lines represent parents and students but the

109trend that you see because 2020 is on the far left but as you move right those numbers are going up so what that was telling us is that the parents and students are okay with the support they reach out to us because they want the support and so it's important for us to recognize because one of the things in the wellness center we talk about how do we reduce stigma what do we want to do to meet the needs but what we're finding is there isn't stigma and so if you see right now um accepting rate is at 88 percent so of the five trainees including myself the number of active clients that we have right now is 56. and it's because there are some referrals that just aren't processed and then of course when

110we connect them to those outside agencies we also count that as a yes when we're able to connect them with other resources in the community we also count it as a yes and then also it's a yes to the relationship that we have and so then we have ongoing support and communication as to what's going on with the family and how we can support the students on campus so this is what it looks like kind of typically throughout the school day we do have a lot of students who now even just join us at lunch and break and that's wonderful they find that it's a nice quiet place if you've had the opportunity to come over to the wellness center um at the high school you'll see it's really relaxing atmosphere and students enjoy being

111there the other thing is mentioned by our student representative is over at Huntington middle school with the addition of Evie we're actually opening the wellness center over there at lunch two days a week and since we have done that it's only been a week but the first week the first day we had two students then the second day we had 14 students and today we had 15. wow so what we're seeing at the middle school also is that when we open the doors and we create an opportunity for kids to come by they do so we want to be able to create more of those opportunities as we can with the resources that we have and when I say resources I mean our staff and so also one of the things and Carlos said Sheridan

112you saw on the First Data with regards to how many students at the elementary level are also accessing Services the important thing to note at the elementary level is that really includes a lot of family work so when we have an elementary student that is constant contact and support with parents that is at least a meeting every week if not every other week with parents of different ways that we can help support their student and as I said in most of those situations it has nothing to do with their academic performance it's about social it's about anxiety it's about difficulty with communicating it's usually about something else so with that being said as we continue to increase their Elementary we have worked with the principals at both of the elementary school sites to designate a

113place on campus a room that is going to be the wellness room so that way as we continue to grow and obviously our elementary campuses enrollment is continuing to rope so we still have a designated space to be able to meet with students so that's something that's in the works that we're going to be putting those rooms together this school year and here's just some of our flyers and different pieces we are very excited about the out of the darkness walk to fight suicide which will be the first weekend of November and then also as you can see we have a flyer that's translated into Chinese and that's with the contributions of bringing levy on as part of our team so we utilize her a lot and connecting with our families and being able to

114speak Mandarin and we want to make sure that all of the information that leaves the wellness center is translated for families and that's I think it and if there's any questions uh if you go back to uh I'm not sure which page um we we have a visitor uh from the tour elementary school so what what great what kind of what kind of age for the elementary school yeah valentine cover so this year we have some TK friends we have some Kinder friends and then we also have students that range the whole the whole gamut so it really depends I think we've probably had a student referred from every single grade level so far this school year and so when we're talking about those small Kinder or those TKS a lot of what we do

115with parents too is we provide them coaching we provide them with some different supports the things that they can read we work with the teacher we are that second set of eyes that kind of sits at the back and observe something different and so we're supporting the kid we're supporting the parent and we're working with the teachers when the students in the TK is a duck the category to Mentor or maybe they are I think that they are just kid maybe they usually it's just difficulty with emotional regulation and so there is like so we anticipate school year a five-year-old four-year-old has a difficulty emotionally regulating and having an appropriate response in an appropriate situation but then as time goes by parents have great concerns so we have some teachers in our district that are

116very Vigilant in communicating with parents different things that they see to include the parents in the education and some of our parents are like help me I'm not sure what I could and should do so in those situations we support parent oftentimes we say this is the track this is normal development this is typical and this is appropriate but sometimes parents really appreciate that support they appreciate someone else also kind of in the classroom kind of working with the teacher to make sure that their student is supported and their needs are met so that's with like little ones and even but then I'd say like we have um some second grade clients oftentimes it's it's more kind of interpersonal we have a lot of anxiety in some of our students um as I said it's

117not necessarily related to academic in any way and then we still are seeing the effects of students who they had not had the opportunity to be in school during coven and now they're coming into a school setting and it's difficult and even for some of our parents it's difficult for parents to let go of the students now post covet and let them go into the classroom uh secondary I have some messages to pass to you because uh last couple years during the code in 19 is difficult to visit to the awareness Center so just in chain uh he was our student School Board I think five five years ago so he is the one initiated the idea you know the you know the US uh school district and high school to set up the Wayne

118Center so so right now he just became a medical school student her first year and he always said he like to visit the Wayne Center but right now I because you know Paul we don't go to the high school directory but today I'm just taking this opportunity to to share with you I think he wants to visit yeah yeah I know we've had people come through and visit that I was like I don't know who that is um but it's and I've also been contacted by other school districts who have found information or have seen some of the different things that we posted on the website and even the website it's not even nearly as robust as it could be had we had the time so that's one of the things that we also want

119to really really focus on is how do we put more content on the website and now with assistance of Evie we're going to be able to do that but I've had several school districts reach out to me asking um an example of that is like walking out of high school I work with their Wellness counselor over there and they're asking and they just reached out last week how can we get interns because they have been working with an agency and so everyone has that question I have probably met with five different school districts who are like how do we do that and it's such an important resource and it's such a great connection and in our district I have found that that is no issue parents are more than thrilled to have a trainee work

120with their child and they are more than thrilled to work with the trainee this is another message I want to share with you probably uh the the past superintendent the thing I mentioned to you actually the the relationship between the chandan service center and the Manila high school that come from me because I'm the four member layer and also I'm the chair of a health division so I for last couple years you know I talked to Dr Williams and you know the because of this is the free resource whatever I need support they will support us just like the support for the vaccine clinic actually we are planning to open the 45 000 square feet at the Alhambra Main Street so that will be a very big uh the mental health clinic yeah and and

121also not just have the our school district you know we said during covid-19 you know we want to make friends with other school district so we we asked you know the CSC Health also you know to help the other school this way so so right now you are the your position is like the leader to the artists the neighborhood school districts people too you know what because you are nrcsw so not not out of the school days so you know they utilize to high level csw so so so I think that will be very uh starting a Consortium and that's something that I really did work on during the uh the time when we weren't on campus obviously I was not nearly as busy as well we're really coming up with what is going to

122be the standard in San Gabriel Valley for school-based mental health and it's not because we're not competing with each other but we're really figuring out how do we address all the needs of students how do we do it in a smart way and how do we have the standard that every school district is going to say this is what we want to make sure that stays in the budget and is always available to students and doesn't wax annoying with Trends so I highly am passionate about that um and because we need to communicate and learn from each other best practices and I think ideally I would love it if we cross-trained if we split up training to train trainees to make sure that they had different ways of doing things best practices when it comes

123to Department of Mental Health requirements suicide risk assessments all of those things if we could cross train to support each other so we could all learn from each other to really meet the needs of students so that is that is the vision yeah thank you so much for your last two years last thing to mention too is last year we were able to do a mindfulness Learning To Breathe curriculum at the middle school for eighth graders we did have positive feedback and they enjoyed it as they moved into ninth grade and we also had a social skills group so this year in the next probably like two weeks we wanted to launch another mindfulness uh curriculum it's called Learning To Breathe and it's a curriculum that I did previously with UCLA and Fuller Theological Seminary

124and we're going to be launching that at the middle school and we're going to offer it to seventh graders and then we're also looking at what additional groups can we offer so that is something that our trainees that we have they only get credit when they have the client in front of them they don't get any credit for seat time so when I say that they're earning 500 hours that's 500 hours of the student or the parent in front of them that's not 500 hours of being on campus it's the direct contact with clients so they do not get credit for group in the same way that they do individual clients but they want to do a group because we see the benefits and the opportunity is amazing so that's something that we want to

125Foster and continue and I feel very privileged that I have trainees that are willing to do things outside of their our requirement in order to really meet the needs of the students based on what we're seeing so I don't know if there's any other questions I have a couple one is dumb but you know we're in the business of Education someone asked you um LCSW those are your credentials what does that actually mean so it's I'm a licensed clinical social worker I was licensed in 2014 and I'm also a school counselor and I actually started as a teacher 20 years ago I never finished my teaching credential because I really just wanted to talk to the kids so I didn't finish my student teaching if this is a title in the hospital so I mean

126I I didn't know about the trainees that you have and you know when you put that up I you know I was really struck by how many there are and so I can completely understand why other school districts would like to be able to do the same thing um one of my daughters my kids are grown so let's just start there but one of my daughter's friends did this and I was around her quite a bit when she was trying to get her hours and I mean it was really difficult and she went to some places she didn't really like so you know I think that you know I just like have you know some real sympathy and empathy for um you know for that process so they don't get paid at all for doing

127this they're free and so I have two trainees that are there four days a week just because they want to be actually three they're there four days a week all day how do they serve off like how does it yeah so some of them obviously have other means usually a lot of student loans and different things and then I try to accommodate the ones that are working um if I think they're a really good fit for us so yeah I mean so I have um three that are here four days a week they have a lot of clients and they just enjoy being there so one of the things if you come by the wellness center they bring snacks they bake stuff you know they just really make it home and they really enjoy being

128there and it it breaks my heart that I can't say that there is a position for you at the end of this and I do know that other school districts they do hire folks that are registered their next step when they finish is to become a registered with the BBS um and they paid them like 25 an hour they deliver their arms you know I would love for us to get to that point so I could say oh my gosh I don't want to lose you either so like peijen Chen she's been with us a year and a half um she speaks Chinese she has seen a ton of clients and I'm going to be devastated when she leaves in December so the size Michael is where I can pick up new trainees in January

129and I can pick up new trainees in May and every now and then I can pick one up in August so I do already have trainees reaching out for a spot where we would interview and then I would see who would be the best candidate for them to start in January so I had reached out to develop those college and university Partnerships to be part of their group of who they will allow to come and do their internship experience with us um so the other thing that I you know was kind of struck by actually as you were sort of talking whatever page it was where you were sort of indicating what the issues are that drive you know why the connection is made you know I think that certainly when my children were here

130and honestly all I've ever heard since then is that it's academic pressure like non-stop academic pressure and you know honestly that's just obviously not what you're seeing and that's how we talk about I think that you know at some point um you know if if we could you know share what you fund you know sort of at a broad level like you know here is what our families and our children need or you know our students need I think there's some benefit in doing that um you know for folks that aren't you know involved who aren't using it I I just think it really helps to um you know to to get people to realize where issues are and what you're identifying here doesn't surprise me a bit because those are like things everybody goes

131through honestly forever you know I mean this is stuff you you know I'm not even close to school age and you know these are things I deal with still um so I think it's just kind of helpful to make that stuff more real world Daily World this is just normal this is how you get help for these kinds of things I think that would be really good broadly for the community and then my very last question is you know it's like the people who support everyone else where do they get support like how does that work I mean that's a little hard to think so that's my job as a clinical supervisor um and I really have to manage my trainees mental health and well-being so today was a tough day and to be honest

132among staff in the wellness center there were a lot of Tears so far this week and last week because we're dealing with some really difficult situations and trainees do have that experience of just kind of feeling a little helpless and our due diligence sometimes is making the DCFS report our due diligence is is sitting and listening and reflecting back and so I stress for them self-care and so we do a lot of documentation we are doing everything in accordance to Department of Mental Health L.A County just because of best practices and I need to train them to be able to jump in wherever they go but then in the weeks like that I say you know what no one's bleeding or dying the notes can wait and sometimes that's how group supervision is used where

133it's at two hour block every week where we just kind of sit and process our own feelings and how we're triggered by the different things that come up in this family systems because none of the trainees nor myself walk in and we don't have any of our own stuff but we have to be aware of it and we have to be able to discern the difference and have that safe place to talk about it so we really do focus on what are we doing for self-care if we're going to suggest to a student mindfulness practices and different things and we have to be we have to be doing it ourselves so if we're going to say to them you know we want to do these healthy practices we have to be practicing it and so

134then it's my job to hold the trainees accountable and make sure that we are keeping ourselves on the radar and prioritizing ourselves so you strike me as someone who will ask for what they want or need yes is that fair okay so obviously we want to make sure that happens um you know so it's like I mean this is a very tough job and you know I don't you know just please raise your hand if something comes up that you need from us okay yeah we have lots of needs um but really just to dress real quick because I do have the data from last year so of the students who are referred current grades A's and B's was 29.3 and 29.5 of those students I also in our data we also collect what their

135gpas were and whether or not they had AP or honors forces so when we look at kids that were struggling academically it's like 3.6 I mean it's like minuscule and so that is the the critical piece about the wellness center and creating the space that students can walk in is they're holding it together beautifully and so we need to be that space where they can come when it's overwhelming on the inside and no one can see it the other thing to note is even this this last week so we we haven't flow right we have tears and we have tears of joy we've even closed cases when we're saying this is within normal it's typical you know these are some things but you don't have enough problems you know so we can provide some psychoeducation

136we can support provide some tools and then we also screen students out and say you know go and be so it's like we're doing both we want to make sure that we identify the kids that have those intense needs but then we're also not just offering it to people who don't need it and I think that that's really important to learn when do you access therapy services and when do you not need to but you can rely on yourself and your own tools so have you received the iPad app from the director Nina they said they will give us I know I know and yes that is an email how many they give us so I know and I have been speaking with Jackie and um I know so that's something that they want to

137launch they sent me the proposal of the entire thing and I need to read through it so I I don't know if everyone else is aware it's a grant that Chinatown service center was able to gauge and they asked if we wanted to be a part of it and of course I raised my hand when they reached out and it's really having it's an iPad program it's to help support students in crisis it's to be able to have a direct Avenue so students can talk to a clinician on the spot if need be so I would love to be able to provide all of those needs myself but this would really be something too that it could be accessed at the middle school when I'm not sitting there or my trainee is not sitting there

138but we could still have the avenue to connect them as well as we have a trusting relationship with Chinatown services so that's in the queue of things yeah I need to follow up yeah and we really appreciate Chinatown service center as a partner because they see our students they they come and they use their office space which makes it really truly school-based Mental Health Services and then shout out to Foothill Family Services who is like our Asylum partner we haven't had any clients to send them but they're really wanting to put together a teen safe date group so there's a lot of different services and things that we can really bring to you know address all the needs of students can I can I ask first off I want to say thank you very much

139for everything that you and and everybody at the wellness center is doing because I I it's a great job it's an invaluable service and and it's definitely helping the students so thank you very much for that um so one of the questions I had kind of goes with the academic anxiety issue um definitely the data that you're presenting shows that there's these other stressors or other factors um and what I'm wondering is are those factors the ones that bring students to a point to where they are thinking okay I need to go to the wellness center like they've reached a threshold whereas other students that are maybe having anxiety about academic pressures and therefore it's maybe affecting their quality of life but not to a crisis level is there a is there an arm or

140a component of the wellness center that is is aiming to sort of help those students that um that are experiencing academic pressure and anxiety but not necessarily at a crisis level that you know in other words is it is it sort of a different population and how are we also helping those students in that other part of the population yeah so I think that that's something that you'll just see the counseling team in general is doing and that's where we're trying to utilize that homeroom time and get into the classrooms and for the counselors to be more visible on the quad so I think as a whole at the high school level I can really only speak to like the counseling team as well as the Wellness Center is really trying to get more face-to-face

141contact with kids but not just that scheduling meeting but to create a space for them to come in and to kind of problem solve on that so I think that that is something that absolutely needs to be addressed it's hard because a lot of the conversation I hear with students is oftentimes it's not it could be it could be both it could be some parent pressure but oftentimes it's their own pressure because they're trying to keep up with everybody else and you know I think that that's an ongoing conversation of how we can help support students in general and mitigate that um and you know we would like to be able to and I think it's probably slated for this year and Carlos can speak as far as like those counselor presentations is to deliver

142that in the classroom and we're really trying to make the climate of it's okay to ask for help it's not going to impact your college letter and it's not going to impact your course selection especially with opening up AEP to everybody it's not going to be a barrier but we need to have these conversations and support you and actually the counseling team encourages students to put that in their college letters to say like I'm a real person who has struggled but has found these tools to overcome it which is really helpful for our students so and what I find too and we have this conversation with the teachers is we're trying to negotiate a time for students to meet in the wellness center They Don't Want to Miss a class like I mean I can

143count on one hand of the kids that wouldn't mind missing class but for the most part they do not want to miss tests they do not want to miss projects and they want to be in class um and that is something in my many years of experience doing school-based mental health I've never seen it like I've seen it here at San Marino and I've also never seen so many parents pick up the phone I have not it I don't even think one time have I ever had a non-returned phone call and I think that that's huge so we're just always how do we have these conversations with kids how do we have these conversations with people with the parents because they all really really want to have them I mean that's my experience 88 of

144parents say yes and some of those that didn't um it's because of there's we didn't ask for various reasons but yeah so I think that those are good conversations to keep having fun so next month we'll we'll talk about the the counseling program and so what we're building pretty well built now um that smhs is a multi-tiered systems of support mtss So Tanya handles a lot of our tier three systems of support so our you know our crisis interventions um and some tier two as well there'll be like group interventions and things of that nature um the counselors will do a lot they'll do both the academic and the social emotional but that'll be the more tier one and tier two so a lot more access to the general population um the entire school and

145then also individualized support for students who are struggling um one I just want to shout out Tanya and also our counselors we did our first SEO session in early September went to every single classroom uh every student in the high school Tanya we kind of broke it up and took little sections of each grade level Tanya went to all 44 sessions uh to speak about the wellness center yeah um wow and our data that we collected after that is is you know students are well aware we share that with our staff this week as well students are well aware of what the wellness center offers so she put in a lot of uh yeah a lot of steps that week again I tell you we're on the third generation of referral and what I mean

146by that as a student told by our main sports generation the student was told by another student who can go well listen dad students who that student then referred another student and then is referred and understood and that is a great little network of friends where they're actually sharing their interpersonal but that's that's really what we're doing is we're getting into the questions and it's like kids are asking for the support that they need that's great thank you so much thank you that's awesome thank you very much keep up the great work we're very grateful to you both thank you okay so let's move on to our action item agenda um so the first one is um oh by the way is that I mean the collect public comment no no I'm sorry we've I

147mean Stephen keep me honest we've done all the public comment we need right okay I think so um okay so first action item is sufficiency of textbooks would you like to do that yes president Caldwell members of the Board of Education student board member Trend and executive team this evening the district is requesting that the board approve resolution number seven which is the sufficiency of textbooks and or instructional materials in each course subject that are consistent with the California curriculum Frameworks and standards adopted by the California Board of Education for the 2022-23 school year I moved to adopt resolution number seven thank you do we have a second thank you um Kelly would you like to do the initial vote Yes thank you Mike hi Joseph hi Jane hi Shelly hi Okay resolution number seven

148passes um four goals yes um can we pull up the presentation and Mrs De la Torre would you mind passing out the hard copies as well foreign so what we're going to do tonight is I'm going to take the Board of Education through the presentation that you have all seen before um on the San Marino Unified School District Board of Education goals and you'll note that this presentation is dated September 27 2002 because it has been updated um as per the board's request so um I think you're all familiar with these fantastic people um this is our wonderful Board of Education you can move to the next slide um and on August 1st as a reminder the Board of Education met at the Huntington Library um in the president's conference room um thank you Mr

149Chang for your connection to Huntington and for making that happen for us there was a facilitator there Dr um and she did an outstanding job facilitating the process of the board coming up with four broad-based goals we talked about a return to the Four A's which are academics Arts Athletics and activities and so everything that we do this year is going to be focused on those four categories and also of these four goals so we have board goal a which is to develop and Implement physical health and sustainability board goal B which is to create a culture of Service Board goal C which is to demonstrate a culture of value and appreciation to smusd employees and board gold D which is to produce high quality Global Citizens amongst our student population and it's important to

150note that these letters do not represent any priority order in which these goals are listed next slide so the board of education's vision statement is delivering a world-class education with recognized excellence in again academics Arts Athletics and activities what we will refer to um quite frequently as the Four A's next slide and our mission statement is as follows the smusd delivers supportive environments and Innovative opportunities for student learning promotes individual student Excellence invites collaboration and Discovery and challenges students to take responsibility as members of a diverse Global Community next slide so here we have goal a develop and Implement physical health and sustainability so in order for us to accomplish that we are going to be focusing on the following evaluating the feasibility of a bond preparing for the renewal of our two parcel taxes

151we have measure e and measure r address declining enrollment assessing our fee income whether or not that is sufficient exploring increased donation slash possible endowment fund collaborate with and support our wonderful San Marino schools foundation and our amazing ptas the same goal B is to create a culture of service and communication and in order for us to accomplish that we will increase awareness regarding diversity Equity inclusion and belonging and I added uh the B for belonging because um that is the newest um component of Dei and something that most school districts and institutions are currently incorporating into their Dei programs and I think that that is very important that we create a sense of belonging amongst our students at each of the campuses one of the things that you just heard from Tonya alhendi our

152Wellness coordinator at San Marino High School is that some of the students come in because they don't feel that sense of belonging and they feel a sense of loneliness and um we we don't want that for our students also we will build connections with students staff and our smust community we will make people focused decisions we want all of our decisions to really be made through a lens of figuring out what is the best thing that we can do for the people that we serve and we're going to use data to inform all of our decisions we want to instill a sense of Pride and confidence amongst our smusd community and of course we want to distinguish ourselves by providing unique learning opportunities for students and I want to pause there because there was a

153question um from one of the board members on whether or not that's really what we intended to do and I I want to say that that comment or that excuse me that um uh goal really goes back to a conversation that we had during our last board meeting I believe around the Caltech course that we offer at San Bruno high school and the humanities course and being able to offer to our students very unique learning opportunities which distinguish them on a college application that we had talked about making sure that we continue to provide those opportunities and that we continue to look for Unique opportunities including internships for our students so is that something that the board wanted to have a discussion about or are we in agreement with that didn't know that was what

154we meant oh okay I mean I think it's in line with what we were interested I'm not sure whether we use those words I don't know where you know like I think I just felt a little bit out of place in that particular goal um I'm not sure what that meant how that fit was culture of service and communication um well that's why I was kind of wondering I would argue though that it is creating a culture of service to our students by giving them unique opportunities I mean I think you could make that point I mean it could also appear someplace else but what I would suggest as we leave it here and then if we want to do a version two someplace we can always do an edit then and I think that's

155how we were looking at it and thinking about it when when it landed there um but I you know this is this these are your goals you guys tell me what you want to do and I'm happy to do it um so it's up to you the only suggestion that I would make on that one point is that it's distinguishing ourselves by providing unique learning opportunities for all students so add the word all yeah and um and that's because although we do have great great opportunities unique opportunities like the stem program with Caltech and the Huntington Humanities course we still have a very small number of students that can participate in that yeah I think that I think the number was 21 students in the in the Caltech program so we want to be able

156to provide those unique learning opportunities for all students I agree um is the board I think I'm totally good with that amendment I think it I mean you know I would argue that it is implied but I think to Mike's Point to make it overt is a good thing so um on that note I would actually ask that we write out deid sure you don't want to fall into the Ed you speak yeah right and I you know I it was spelled out except for the belonging part of it and I just um tried to consolidate it just for space but I'm happy you know to spell that out um and I will I will do that so diversity equity and inclusion will be spelled out yes I like belonging actually I think that's you

157know it's actually very much in line with the whole Wellness Center discussion we just it really is yeah I think that's yeah I had never heard of that until right now so wherever it is you are picking up this stuff USC sorry [Laughter] oh they're a great school yeah just a football team another conversation okay thank you before we get okay so goal C is to demonstrate a culture of value and appreciation to our smusd employees so in order for us to accomplish that um we are going to and have developed a plan to recognize employees on a regular basis we're going to honor our employees achievements in the most meaningful way possible I think there was evidence of that in the Teacher of the Year banquet that we just attended invest in professional development

158for um our employees we want to make sure that they have the tools and training that they need to be successful we're going to provide a competitive total compensation package for all employees we believe we're doing that we're going to talk a little bit more about that in detail um later on in the agenda and we're going to support and promote employee health well wellness and safety and that's one of the changes that I made to this presentation per the board's request I think it was Mr Chang during our last meeting hey next slide and gold D produce high quality Global Citizens We're going to work to increase social awareness and competency we're going to develop and offer high quality programs we're going to achieve success in all of the the four ace that we

159talked about earlier and we want to engage in deep learning opportunities create oh I fixed that I'm ah great it's supposed to be create and I did fix it I don't know what happened so it reverted back to an old version I apologize for that that should say create I will go back in and fix it opportunities for increased social awareness and competency provide robust Counseling Services you just heard a presentation on Wellness counseling um we also have robust um uh College counseling services that we're providing students and we want to engage in Opportunities For Real World experiences we have CTE which is college um and Career Technical education and dual enrollment we have dual enrollment opportunities through PCC and we are working to set up a breakfast meeting with a board member from pacc

160to talk about expanding dual enrollment opportunities for our high school students and then looking at the uh SMU can you go back yes of course so is the CTE and dual Implement in parentheses um a further statement on engage in the Opera is that supposed to be related there I think so yeah well so if it is then I think we need to get rid of the bullet next to it yeah I do I agree or get rid of the parentheses right have it be its own thing yeah I think it is really I don't care which one it is no no I think it is related and so we will do that we'll clean that up you don't think it is well I think that that can be its own bullet in that it

161becomes an issue of Early Access to College and Career Readiness um because that's really what that is about right about creating access to these Pathways for these students to be able to enhance their education while they're in high school which are typically areas that they pursue when they're in college so I don't know that it's the same thing as just engaging in real world opportunities so have it be its own bullet and then we have room to spell LCT yes yes we do I will make them yeah yeah right if we put this on on a um on the previous slide we'll see um it would it would also capitalize um oh and then employees oh yeah you're right I'm sorry uh-huh yeah that's a good idea thank you yep I'll clean that up and

162I will add that a in there which I did this morning I didn't know what happened we'll get that fixed and then we will remove the parents and um have a CTE and dual enrollment uh we'll we'll spell out CTE Career Technical education and then do you want me to add uh create access well it has to be an active statement right yeah so sure so uh yeah you're talking about the ctd individual enrollment to turn that into an active phrase yes expand like expanding expands I like expand yeah expand okay and then maybe just say college dual enrollment because again we don't want to revert it as you speak I know what we understand yes okay any other recommended changes or suggestions on that site looks great okay we'll clean that up and get

163a revised copy out to you so moving right along smusd 2022 23 cornerstones for Success um investing in professional development educating the whole child making data informed decisions providing a safe learning slash work environment and so we were thinking what we would do with this is we had talked before about having some csba facilitated governance type meetings with the board going forward and that the one meeting that we had at Huntington wouldn't be um the last that we could work with a consultant or we can have a study session where in the board looks at this and um perhaps builds this out a little bit more in addition to working on um the profile of a graduate so what does a uh what do you want a graduate of San Marino High School to look

164like and I've seen different models of of boards of Education coming up with this um that we can use for um uh public relations and marketing of our school district um where you can you can take like a graduation um cap and then fill it in with what you want a graduate of San Marino High School to look like or you can take the profile of a graduate as a graphic and then fill in in different like puzzle pieces within that graphic what you want a a graduate to all the skills traits and characteristics you want them to have when they graduate when they leave us um and so I I really think it would be meaningful um to engage in that exercise as a board study session and including kind of building out the

165cornerstones for Success not just for this year but ongoing you know what what cornerstones of success do we need to have to make sure that we're positioned to be able to do what we need to do to be the best Best of the Best is are you amenable to that or I mean can we look at scheduling something to do that a date okay great perfect so I will work on that okay so how soon we will I'm thinking in I'm thinking in the next several weeks three weeks maybe yeah just because of everything that's on the calendar right now yeah did you want it sooner or later I think what he's thinking is there's an election coming up oh yes that's right well we're going to coordinate with all of you and work with

166your schedules I can do it tonight he was very busy I think you know he's starting to think like a time between 1 15. well I don't think I don't see it being a whole day thing I I see it being you know like before uh close yeah we can tag it on so that it you know you guys already have something on your calendar and we just add it to that one of those dates perhaps um yeah if you could just on this slide yes um let me go back to that one it lays out quickly the four goals yes and if we're gonna capitalize the culture yes yes yes yes that's how you can tell that we're cutting and pasting right that's exactly the same yeah but uh not correct so we'll get

167back to get rid of the board goal a b c and d just like who cares what order they're in yeah we don't have to do that you know the reason oh I think you can just say board bowls that's listed like yeah knockout or goal asp F award goals yeah um so we don't need to do that actually because we can tie it back to The Narrative of the phone um the reason we did it was first for the next thing that I'm going to show you and take you through but yeah I'll get rid of the ABCD that that's less for us to explain going forward yeah our students okay um because you didn't have the opportunity to join us that very long day um and I know that now and also say

168you know look at it and come back to you know if there are things on there that you feel like you know if there's a gaping hole that we're missing um you know let us know or if you see it now or later at some point I'll take a look at it thank you okay um so we'll get all of those things uh adjusted and um for the last slide okay um and then again you know we have this QR code that will take you directly to the online version of this document which as we update um you know becomes the current document um so I'm going to take you through tonight the San Marino High School action plan for this so before you do that should we take action on the goals um is

169it two separate items on the agenda it's listed kind of together but I don't see them as I mean like we're not going to improve yes no I'm just going to share with you yes you may do that okay oh well yes that sounds like a good plan so I I would like for us to approve our goals and we can lead into um what um the superintendent or team have done so could I get a motion to approve the goals as amended you're yeah yeah I like to make the most okay thank you Juliet Mike thank you second um any other conversation questions about that any any discussion no all right so um let's vote Kelly would you like to vote yes thank you Mike hi Joseph aye Jane aye Shelly I I all

170right so our goals are so what happened that was the we're gonna have to redo that has to get redone yeah yet another thing to do work in progress you want to add it to your list for the 11 to 12 times [Laughter] yeah okay um all right now why don't you move forward with the high school piece yes thank you um so I just want to um refresh everyone's memory that uh we have the board goals on the first page and they're color coded um for uh Simplicity and I think that what happened is it got cut off here and I or is that just on my copy or everyone but I mean but you can still read it we know what it says okay good all right so um let's see these Pages

171aren't numbered but if you can go down to one two three four um it's this page San Marino High School orange I think it's one yeah two three pages in you guys there I know sorry no no it's a good thing okay so um I I have to thank um all of the administrators in the in the school district for working so hard on August 2nd and 3rd um to engage in a SWOT analysis strengths weaknesses opportunities and threats for each of our school sites and our departments and also putting together an a very detailed action plan um some of these actions are going to be accomplished um in in one interval of time and others are going to be ongoing some will be done weekly monthly quarterly um and you'll see that as we

172go down and some of these are going to need to be also adjusted and updated as we move through so I'm just going to take you through this very quickly um so related to board goal developing and implementing fiscal health and sustainability um and and remember wigs stands for wildly important goals so the site wigs in this case is that San Marino High School will develop and Implement fiscal health and sustainability by addressing current enrollment Trends that's the themed War San Bruno high school and you see they have the time frame in the next column and then under activities is where we address each activity that the school will do and then once we have made progress on these things the accomplishments column will get filled in and so um principal curtainbach and assistant principal

173um Carlos cassam clay will be filling in this accomplishment column as we go so um I think the first one's done they has to be ongoing but the interesting I mean I I earned a badge today you did I am so proud of you no that was yeah okay that's pretty amazing so that there is definitely an increased presence on social media by San Marino High School um well beyond what uh we were doing last year so and that came from this activity it needs to be released so that's ongoing absolutely and you will notice that there's an app that I earned this year that's great good okay well I'm glad that you're visiting the San Marino it comes right to you we also have an Instagram uh account now it's linked right to our

174Facebook is that right or the other way around yes when our Facebook posts that can be posted on Instagram it goes right to Instagram automatically right or we have to do that manual whenever we do a Facebook post just to make sure that we select the post to Instagram as well okay so that's good because we can then uh send it out to um families who prefer Instagram over Facebook and there are a lot of them oh so that's what we're finding okay um samino High School will invite Samuel school's Foundation to all events and provide them with an opportunity to promote their mission um Samuel High School will have its annual showcase that's going to happen in November and I am inviting all of you to attend right now it was an amazing well-attended

175event last year and I know it's going to be awesome this year so I can't wait for that San Bruno High School will promote programs and create a culture Pride by visiting all three schools in the district we've talked about making sure that our counselors are talking to students at the middle school we are sharing teachers now between the Middle School and the high school which really helps us to provide students with a vision for the future and connects kids to the high school that are at the middle school also um the band right was was recently visiting Carver Elementary School it really gives our elementary school students an opportunity to get excited about eventually coming up through the school system and becoming a Titan and so we're trying to create that sense of Pride

176and um and interest in San Marino High School and then San Marino High School conduct facility and program tours for interested parents and families I know Dr Lynn got to um accompany our wonderful student board member on a tour just last Friday I saw those pictures it looked like it was a lot of fun and thank you so much for doing that uh board member Trend we appreciate that and Dr Lynn for uh taking that family or families right how many seven seven four family showed up out of the seven okay so four families that's that's really good um so thank you for doing that so we're working on that San Marino High School will present to the board of education on programs and achievements we've already started that process as as you will note

177the last uh two board meetings we've had San Bruno High School on the agenda um San Marino High School will add AP seminar research and Capstone to the course offerings for our upcoming school year as part of the development of the San Bruno High School Medical Arts Academy and connect the Medical Arts Academy to a post-secondary institution or internship we're actively working on that as we speak and so this will be all done well in advance of the next school year San Marino High School will highlight a staff member via regular communication channels as well as social media and portals and we are doing that on a regular basis for 20 23 to 24 school year I think that we because we talk about physical health so is that we also want to enhance the

178other night over someone you know school and eventually they have an endowment yeah that that definitely could be the result of this we won't know we need to start to to organize this you know the communities put together and ask each class maybe we have a contact person yeah so yeah so so maybe do I look not busy to you yeah okay we have plans for her okay so oh I'm so sorry as well so um I don't see anything about our PTSA and our booster and I think if we're going to be talking about uh fiscal health and sustainability in high school those two groups play very key roles in maintaining that physical health and sustainability so I don't know what that action looks like but if they kind of start thinking about what

179that looks like in terms of an action plan I think that would be um in that direction I will mention that to them thank you um and they are a very critical part of our fiscal health and sustainability going forward we rely tremendously on our PTSA at San Marino High School and um and and the ptas at every other school and so that is um something that is critically important to us and so I will definitely mention that to them are you ready yeah okay so um the next goal is to create a culture of service samino High School will create a culture of service by increasing communication strengthening our culture of diversity Equity inclusion and belonging and building strong educational Partnerships and Connections in doing so we will be people focused and use data

180to inform our decisions while developing a sense of Pride and confidence in our students we will work to distinguish ourselves from other public and private high schools so uh going over to the activities column say Amino High School will have the administration conduct weekly walkthroughs of all teachers spending 20 of each week in the classrooms providing feedback and providing professional development based on the results that is happening um I have been at the high school and I have observed Administration going into classrooms and I've accompanied them on some of those professional learning walks and so I know that there is um continuous uh meaningful engagement by our Administration in um in the quality of instruction at San Marino High School and that seems to be going very well samino High School will have its annual

181showcase again because this is transferable to creating culture of service making sure that we are providing information and communication to all of our community stakeholders on what we are doing um well at Salmon High School Samuel High School will promote programs and create a culture of Pride by visiting all three schools in the district this is transferable as well um is this this pretty much the same thing everything but the first one everything but the first one is the same so I don't need to read them well kinda I mean and I do get that things are going to have um you know relevance and multiple goals so that makes sense to me but you know when we're talking about this at the Huntington the way I Envision creating a culture of service certainly is

182all of these things because you're you know sort of writing your service but it's also about evaluating when you say no right you know like literally over every question you ever get if the answer is no you need to think of it in your head first make sure you can't turn it into a yes and then figure out why yeah before you speak like that's literally the process that has to be done and that I really want to see in everybody and I do remember um you talking about that so that is something yes you are and that is something that we talked about um during our administrative retreat in in the context of creating a culture of service um instead of just going back to well the policy says or blah blah blah you

183know is there any flexibility in the manner in which we can resolve whatever is before us right so that we are making um decisions that are taking into consideration the impact to the person um and so we did we had meaningful conversations about that um and so I I do believe that that is something that we are trying to emphasize but you're right we could probably um be more explicit in our um activity so I'll provide that I'll provide them with that feedback and Carlos is sitting here so I'm sure he's taking notes well and by being explicit you know you're still very accountable right right so I mean I think that's kind of the key is that I mean the answer is going to be no sometimes I mean it's not going to always

184be yes but I think the challenge in a world of service is kind of understanding when the note is wrote the nurse is truly I know right I mean that's the key yes um and I agree and we talked a lot about that in the context of enrolled registration and enrollment um okay so moving on to board goal C yes oh sorry sorry um I'm just referring back to glory and I'm not seeing anything around ddib and well there there will be um this is a living breathing document and there will be they're going to be filling this out as opportunities come up um because we are going to provide training in the past we've provided implicit bias training and um to our teachers and just yesterday I attended the city clubs diversity Equity inclusion

185meeting and we were talking about um you know the activities that the school district is engaged in um and you know are we collecting data are we providing our employees with training are we making sure that the board has training you know all of those things and so we we are going to be doing that but we don't have yet um the time on the calendar but that that doesn't mean that we can't have opportunities for training that takes place after school but then we would need to be paying for that and we do have um we have money in the budget specifically for Teacher professional development and so we can use it for that so we're having those conversations about how we're going to build that training into our our schedule for this year

186because that calendar has already been set we have additional professional development days as you are aware now for 23-24 and so we're probably going to be taking some of that time to provide um Dei training and so um yeah we'll we'll definitely get this filled out with that in there I think also an important phrase too is especially there maybe more than any other place there needs to be a students when we're talking about deib you know we're we're talking about the students feeling this way we're talking about the students feeling that they belong and they're feeling connected so where or where is this culture of service this is really going going to make a connection at the student level um I I think that Di and all of the other parts of that goal

187really lives the most in this section most students yeah beyond the academics and others absolutely so creating a culture of service um we um Extended that in our minds Beyond just the the culture of service to students we were talking about a culture of service to students and two parents and to stakeholders so as an example um you know going back to what president Caldwell said about evaluate when you have to say no and why you're saying no and what whether or not you can get to yes right and that that could apply to um that could apply to somebody who's who's trying to register their child for school and us just flat out saying you know no because they're an inner District or whatever instead of saying you could you know go to the

188county and appeal or providing them with options right um because you could just shut the conversation down at no or you could say you know you do you have the right to go to the County Office of Education and appeal sure but I think more than any other site the high school is where the student's voice is yes aren't going to make a difference in whether or not their parents are going to even enroll them right if a student doesn't want to go to the high school yeah because they're not feeling heard they're not feeling connected they're not feeling there's a place for them um they're not feeling served yeah and then at the high school more than any other school fight right they are going to ask their parents I want to go somewhere

189yeah and we we um we don't want that to happen and so I think through assemblies right Carlos um there can be programs go ahead yeah you'll see a lot of them actually yeah right now [Music] yeah so they're doing a lot of these things already and um yeah they they might just be mixed up so you can we can get that straight now I know and I know they're all sort of embedded yeah yeah but those things that you just mentioned are very important to us and and also making sure that our um our classified staff our teachers and our administrators um are creating a a sense of or a culture where students do feel like they belong um and we had a long conversation yesterday uh about the fact that in some cases

190that doesn't happen how can we change that um because kids are not one size fits all they're very different some of the interests that they have may not be aligned with their classmates interests right but you want to get that kid engaged in school interested in school and so how do you connect with that one child right I mean we have have all the components to be able to do that and we just need to make sure that all adults are aligned in that mission and so we are definitely mindful of that and working on it so I don't want to beat a dead horse but I'm going to um so I think what what I'm seeing in this yellow section here is a noticeable absence of student benefit right so there are a lot

191of tasks that are going to be accomplished and they may have some benefit you know to the campus to the district whatever um but there's nothing there to me that says you know here's how I'm gonna connect with you know student Genie Caldwell right I mean it's I'm going to do a broad program and hopefully the kid picks up whatever it is I'm going to do and tell them and they feel connected there right or whatever it is and we do that today and we're saying that needs work so I think we have to take it down a few levels and kind of figure out how do you measure that right like I mean these are tasks checkbox checkbox checkbox right I mean of course we can do that and of course we need to

192do it but at the end of the day it's like what how do we measure our success there so they you know like goals have to be measurable quantifiable unmeasurable right right so that's how we have to determine whether we're successful and that's not here yeah these are the action steps but where when like but how do we measure the goal yeah how do you it still has to be measured right you still have to connect it back to how we determine what we deliver so through surveys um student satisfaction surveys um what is the survey that we do to be more kids being involved oh yeah right like I think it's action oriented right I don't want to fill out another survey I don't want to click on boxes I don't want to do

193any of this but the kids have to do it for when they have to do it like a million times so like I just think it's like it's palpable right this is the kind of thing that you feel yes and you see and we should be able to tell whether we're Successful by that absolutely and I mean if you want to do your survey font no no it's just my survey it's a survey for the state they do yeah yes thank you that's it and doing that I mean what you're talking about is did you achieve the goal right we need to be able to measure whether we achieve the goal yeah and that that seems to me that as the year goes on you would fill out a column like if your activity or

194your action is to um I mean let's just do this right we're going to have our annual showcase we have that literally every year how do we move the needle this year if we're just having the same thing we did last year well we are we are making improvements in the program I mean we're going to have better lighting we're going to we've already been talking about all the things that we're going to do to up our game on that showcase so that is inherent I mean every year we're going to do a better job yeah but that wouldn't necessarily wouldn't shop here we wouldn't break down to relatively minor detail in a document like this about right okay now tell us exactly how you're going to improve the Showcase I mean you're you're just

195in this very brief bullet point list of things you're saying showcase right that's going to be where we're going to do it and we may have 5 or 10 or 20 things that we're going to then do to make the Showcase better but you're not going to list it no and and this is again it goes back to the book that we read um the um poor disciplines of execution so we have our lead and lab goals and uh we have a system of accountability that is built into that and the accountability is happening at our leadership meetings where we pull up this document we check in and it's called it's sort of like metaphorically called our scoreboard right we're keeping score on each other and keeping each other accountable for all the action steps

196which go tie back to the goal which is measurable because we do have um systems built in the that we can use to measure our Effectiveness on the goals so at the end of the year if you want to ask us how we measured these goals we can produce that evidence and talk to you about it in detail so will it be task driven or how how will it be reflected in you know student connectedness or student Behavior student interest how do you how do you gauge that improving um well there again the healthy kids survey um asks a lot of those questions and we do get that data um annually and review it annually um Improvement in the numbers of students that are participating in whatever activity whether it be ASB whether it be

197Athletics whether it be the arts clubs on campus right um girls who code you know maybe you have six kids in that program now and by the end of the year you have 12. um so there are ways that we can look at these goals and measure our success in terms of connectedness belonging and um we will definitely sit down after this board meeting and take your feedback and yeah and work with the um the administration on it so I hate to interrupt you but we're coming up on 10 o'clock because we cannot seem to ever finish a meeting before then so could I entertain a motion to extend our board meeting can I can I just on that issue do we and are we supposed to do that at 10 o'clock or 10 30.

198uh because I like if I went on the district website about the board meeting it says until 10 30. so what I'm wondering is what's the difference 10 30 right it's correct meetings are scheduled until 10 30. okay so we go until 10. we've been operating this okay I'm like crazy here right no no you're right and we've done it the last few meetings but I was just so we have until 10 30. we got until 10 30. but then you can only do a 30 minute increment right don't we have to finish by 11 is that still was that what is the rule we don't have that role okay it's just the meeting can be extended one time to make a motion now to extend the meeting by one hour well we don't need

199to if we don't have to till 10. we can do in 30 minutes great if not then yeah okay I'm trying I I just I wasn't sure thanks for looking yeah no I appreciate it thank you okay so are we ready oh well we have a standing agreement with Kelly yeah that she can leave whenever she needs to leave and we're going to quit asking her every meeting so that's just like our fundamental agreement with you so when you're ready to go go and if you want to stay you can stay till whatever time if you have homework and and you need to get your beauty rest for tomorrow please feel free to do that I'm sure the board understands okay so any more feedback on creating a culture of service I think what I

200understood the board to say is that um in terms of feedback is there's a noticeable absence in student benefit um and I think we can correct that by taking some of the action steps from Goldie and plopping them down into this column here um where is the connection at the student level um so I will tell you I read ahead and I will argue you cannot okay okay thank you I mean there needs to be something personal there like you know it can't be APS it can't be College apps it needs to be uh you know I'm gonna get those girls coding like you know we're gonna this is why I mean how am I gonna do that right that's what it has to be okay thank you sorry I read ahead that's okay all

201right so um demonstrating a culture of value and appreciation to our employees so San Marino High School is going to demonstrate a culture of value and appreciation to smus to the employees with employee recognition honoring achievements and investing in professional development so looking at the activities um San Bruno high school again is going to engage in learning walks and they were going to spend 20 of their week in the classrooms providing feedback and providing professional development based on the results um and that is hard to do by the way it's really hard for them to be able to do that and they're doing it San Marino High School uh is going to highlight a staff member um using regular communication and social media um so we know that we are promoting um Matthew mizrahi's um

202honor as our teacher of the year [Music] um and then this is redundant I'm not sure why that's in there samino high school will spend at least 20 that's redundant stamina High School will provide site-based professional development we got that um moving on to producing high quality Global Citizens sure again I'm just I understand the idea of highlighting the Statin or I think that's a great idea yeah but the next one where the high school is increasing its social media presence how does that demonstrate the union appreciation to its employees I think what they have here is hashtag smust Pride I think what they're trying to do is so pure um if you're an outstanding coach and um Administration goes out and photographs you and posts a picture of you doing something amazing or being

203honored and then they you know create a little blurb um about you that is elevating your um presence as a coach for San Marino High School it's creating pride in the school it's also letting people know who you are um which may not happen in the absence of of that picture being taken right and the admin posting is that what you meant promoting yeah promoting um served okay so it's directed not just to the students that are participating in the programs or the classes or whatever but but the faculty and staff oh yeah whatever that's also yes and highlighting them as well yes if you go to um our smusd Facebook page you will see lots of pictures of teachers like I took a picture of Tony all handy tonight with you standing there and

204I'm going to post that and talk about the presentation for the wellness center at San Marino High School and um you know today I took pictures at the Huntington Middle School PTA meeting and so I'm going to be posting um you know Daryl standing up and talking in front of um the parents and so we are trying to elevate and promote all of the good work that is getting done district-wide and that in turn creates a culture of value and appreciation because if you're that teacher that's working hard in your classroom every day and typically you go unnoticed right but now that we're going on all these professional learning walks we cut them into your classroom we take pictures of you working with students in groups and that goes up on social media to stay

205you know this teacher is is outstanding and was doing X Y and Z activities in his or her classroom today um they feel good about that it's like oh thank you right so that's what we mean by that thank you you're welcome so um Dr delatorre yes ma'am it's called well I wanted to just kind of add a little bit to I think what um Jane and Genie were trying to get at in terms of you know how do we measure this how do we intentionally put um in place um our focus on students and one discussion we were having and one of the things I just I know Dr delatory can speak on this much more but we can put in those smart goals and I know Gene doesn't like acronyms but smart goals

206stands for being very specific uh is it measurable how is it measurable so as we look at some of these items when you say we're going to go into the classroom 20 of the time you know over a period each week we also can measure that right and it's is it achievable because on some days you know Carlos is sorry we're busy so that week is not going to happen but on the following week can he get in there at 35 of the time and um in terms of these goals being realistic and relevant we want to make sure that they are we're not just walking through just to walk through um how valuable isn't that experience when you walk through the classroom to give specific feedback to support the teacher not just um taking

207a picture but really recognizing like I love the way when Jeannie framed it and said um Tanya let us know what it is you need you need to reach out to us because as a program uh grows it can stagnate it can and stay at a plateau so how do we take it to the next level and then of course time bound meaning um how can we achieve it and and is it realistic in six months or is it a nine month thing and what are we looking at because it's great we're going into the classrooms but um the why is really important right and when we go in how are we being intentional because it's making that connection with our teachers with our students and that the students see that the administrator is in

208there supporting the teacher so um I just wanted to make sure that you know you and I know that you you can address this but I just want to remind um you're absolutely right and you you talk like you're in education or something so you you understand and and so that is very true all those things are very true um can we though add to this and expand on it yes and will we yes absolutely we take um your feedback very seriously but we um we do understand how to measure um these these goals and um we will definitely build them out um introducing high quality Global Citizens are we ready to move on to that okay okay um San Marino High School produced high quality Global Citizens by offering quality programs and achieving the

2094as creating opportunities for social awareness and competency and providing robust Counseling Services real world of experiences and opportunities and deep learning engagement so again you see the same goal with getting into those classrooms and providing support and feedback to teachers because that in essence is important in terms of the um the outcome for all students eventually Samuel High School will review current school-wide learner outcomes and develop and recommend new outcomes going to the next page continuing the expanding Arts events into middle school and Elementary to build pipelines of interest to the high school so white just starts um I think I think they have the rest of it somewhere else if I'm not mistaken but it could be um Carlos can you respond to that but I don't see anything about we have the same

210we had I mean this is before you but when I was here before we had that for athletics and we also did it for some of our activities for the debate program I think we had a um the robotics piece we would take that down into the middle and yeah elementary schools too and we're really trying to build all those programs so I just want to make sure we are um okay so I'm gonna take notes and we'll talk about that uh build all programs um I think what Genie is probably getting as something I wrote down as well is when we're looking at high quality Global Citizens we need to have hit all four aids because a lot of this is um academics and there's some Arts but there's not much mention of Athletics

211even when we talk about your senior counseling session a lot of um students are going into Athletics or we need helping prepare them for what that might look like with all of the changes that the NCAA level College athletics is going to look really really different in the next few years all right we educating our counseling staff around those changes are we helping to educate our parents around those changes and what that means because I don't think parents even realize the changes that are occurring that are going to radically radically impact um Athletics in the college level and so a lot of parents are looking at Athletics as these opportunities to use to get into college and it's changing the game um and so I think when we're talking about all of these things these

212should be covering all those Four A's and where are the and how is that what does that look like with supporting the students with their activities um to keep a focus on whatever it is they need to focus on um um well you guys have read ahead and I'm at you know like the second bulleted item here so I don't know because I haven't read ahead if they don't include all of those things so I did look to see if it was listed in you know yeah or else and I didn't see it so you don't correct me um okay but I just want to like kind of piggyback a little bit on what Jane is saying I mean generally the ability to move up in competitive Sports levels is like one percent you know

213like one percent of the kids will actually leave high school and you know be in a division one school no you can broaden that out of you know if you consider division two and division three yeah and I hope they do that but that honestly is not what I care about what I care about is you know I think about um you know all the years I have now been out of school and the people that I believe are most successful in their roles um you know certainly they all had a great academic structure but they also had something else so whether it was Athletics or arts or activities they performed in you know some capacity in some of those areas and that's where they became really who they are right so the academics is

214a given it's the other stuff that turns them into in my mind this very productive world-class kind of person right that you can move from this venue to this venue and you will figure out how to get it done right right that's what I want to see in this particular category okay so I'd love for them to get up and I do think our counselors need to know these things um but having said that mostly what I want our kids to do is to figure out what besides academics you know sort of Lights their candle right you know like what is it that you like to do and let's go do it right and and I want to just draw your attention back to their goal which does uh say and achieving the Four A's

215creating opportunities for social awareness and competency so that is part of what they're thinking about doing um and yeah right but remember the last board meeting when you guys said you figure out the how uh we'll figure out the what and Linda you figure out the how but now you guys are figuring out the house I know no I I love the feedback I won't quit giving it okay no I know you won't because I know you that well and it's perfectly fine okay so but I do agree it's a Hal but you know yeah like we have a really narrow window to you know time wise to begin to make impact on you know yeah the class to share at right now right and so these are kind of fundamental to what we want

216to see in our high school kids you know sort of Education process so if we don't begin thinking that way in all of these categories now we're going to miss you know maybe this year's sophomore class or junior class because yeah they'll be too far along right with whatever it is we're going to do so that's why I'm making a big deal yeah no no it's totally fine no need to explain I I am your subordinate you are the bosses and I do what you guys want me to do as long as there's three of you or more okay just kidding I hope you guys have a sense of humor this late in the evening it's 10 12. okay so um where were we uh senior counseling evening session for families explaining the college application

217process and bringing in admission experts to provide focused goals for college applicants and that's important right um collaborating with the English Department to provide further depth to college essay writing and preparation senior college application sessions during the advisory time to review the college application process and new changes senior one-to-one meetings with the focus on college applications creating College workshops during lunch and evenings to support students through the college application process one-to-one meetings with each grade level to build a College Plan College and Career sessions with each grade level during advisory to prepare students for scheduling meetings continuing move up day with 8th grade students and families to connect them to San Marina High School to increase matriculation rates college and career sessions for families grades 8 through 11 to prepare inform and receive feedback before

218scheduling meetings set new expectations for instruction and work collaboratively with teachers to develop feedback using a new walkthrough tool we're doing that now mcwell create Medical Arts Academy focused on integrating internships and two new AP courses for the 2324 school year creating Partnerships with USC to provide student internships whole school inclusion sessions are led by counseling staff which are led by counseling staff we organized and revamped the CTE Pathways to include Capstone courses as internship opportunities so we'll add activities that relate to [Music] um the Athletics because we've got Arts right um and activities what is full School inclusion sessions mean um at least one of the Warriors okay let me ask us as far as creating Partnerships with USC to provide student internships um why just USC and what type of internships it doesn't

219have to just be USC but right now we're in conversation um with the um the head of the School of Pharmacy at USC about an internship that would be related to our Medical Arts program and so we um plan to reach out to the chief of staff at Huntington Hospital who happens to be a resident of San Marino about internships we just haven't yet made that connection um and also um the Huntington Medical Research Institute actually the the right now the uh the UHC Pharmacy bin gathered another school yeah he also is a dean of uh social worker so there you go so um and he is um yeah very uh interested in connecting us on that level and so um we are open to talking with other um yeah I mean whatever whatever um

220we can do to benefit our students um but it doesn't have to be USC so back to the yes you know again kind of want to point out what this says um it's not an expansion or you know creating additional death at the high school it's carrying it into the middle and elementary schools which I think is very important yeah it just as you're talking about adding activities and art um I mean there's multiple levels right there's sort of the going down and making sure that we have the campuses connected yes but it's also ensuring that our existing students have you know a a broad depth of opportunity in those areas and support in choosing yeah kind of what they like okay all right thank you which of these and sure it listed but which

221ones of these increased social awareness and competency Carlos do you I would uh say the internships um as well the the inter the USC yes yeah the whole school he said internships um what are you when you're saying internships are you talking about what was that so if you're gonna have to move up in the city uh um okay um another another so a lot of these things are roles of yeah these are the kind of data activities that we're highlighting so Arts academics you know a lot of these are ongoing and functioning at a high level um and and those are improving as well um I think these are kind of areas of Portland if you will and that's not what we've worked on at our new program um no no you're absolutely right

222that's a good point and I should have said that but um I mean we could put down on this document things that are already happening um marketing documents right I mean at the end of the day I mean I'm looking at it and I'm I mean we help you decide like how it ought to go and I'm thinking that it's not it's not a Focus right so I mean if we feel it's strong and I mean you better be really thinking it's strong if you want to like have it in that category because you know they're strong and then there's so like I mean that has to be a real difference there but I do think you know I think it should be it should be identified some way because it's absence makes it appear

223it's not important and you know and I don't believe that's true I don't I you know but it's not in here and so you know it right now I mean this is on our website right I mean somebody's able to look at it no it's not on our website well it's not I mean people that might be viewing are no the only people who can view this are those that I've shared so but if they're on Zoom right now they can't see this no they can see it on Zoom but I'm saying it's not publicly available well yeah but I mean it it may not be posted like it's like a done deal but it's um you know folks can see it and look at it right so it becomes a document that you know

224it just I just think it should make sure it encompasses all the things that we want to say um are important in what we do and there may be certain things in you know among you know these areas where we want to expand increase add whatever you know I mean all of that can be maybe what this is but if it's in the context of things we already do well it may cover all of that right okay can can I yeah okay what are the CTE Pathways that we have at the high school we have media arts um Carlos do you want to run through them graphic design apps the Arts graphic design and business increase social awareness and confidence I think I think he was saying is that if they have an end it

225takes them outside of the boundaries of our community to perform work right they have to engage with individuals who may be diverse they have to um you know maybe adapt to a different work environment or culture and so that helps to increase as students remember we were talking about how a lot of students will say after they graduate that they grew up in a bubble and they didn't really I think you were the one who talked about you know um take them downtown LA so they can see what it looks like in the real world right because eventually they're going to be out there in the real world and they need to understand how to navigate it and so if we're creating internship opportunities for kids where they have to go and complete an X

226number of hours in um maybe LA right maybe I don't know um some other city where it's a distance from San Marino and it's a very different culture um that is creating uh an enhanced awareness of other cultures um that increases their ability to connect to converse to engage with individuals so that increases their social competency and their cultural competencies and awareness okay so that's just and that's that's only one thing right that that you were pointing out um but there's not trying to nitpick on one yeah I'm just saying Social increased social awareness and competency really goes in in my goes to taking students and and immersing them in in activities and and programs that really genuinely let them understand the struggles of people in their community and and I'm and unless there is

227a for example a uh media arts internship that is going to do that then that is focused on social awareness and competency then it's not necessarily going to do that or you know what I'm saying I mean well it could though about trying to be Global Citizens so that they can go out into the world right and actually know how to interact with people from other cultures that's their experience and that's what we would look at doing so let me just give you an example so if we had an internship um attached to media arts and we were working with Paramount Studios or something and they had a film crew and that you have to you know as part of your internship you need to you know um be a part of this film crew

228and assist you know a reporter a journalist and her cameraman let's say you go out and and you're reporting on not you as a student but you're observing and you're working with them the stories real you know real stories that are happening out there um or documentaries maybe about cultural issues those kinds of experiences can be very valuable in that area additionally we are going we are working on an ethnic studies course that will become part of the graduation requirement and that speaks to exactly what you were just saying um and that has to be done right now we have a committee and we have a board member on that committee that is going out and being trained is it in South Pasadena Alhambra I'm sorry um and so they're being trained on uh the

229new ethnic studies requirements and um curriculum right and so um that is coming and that is that speaks to exactly what you were saying um and then assemblies right I mean we're doing those things you know and there's some big ones there yeah so for example we have a few business organizations organizations um first of all people and that's the big thing that we've already mentioned in multiple sessions with our Juniors and seniors this year so that's the best stuff that we can certainly add and I okay there's a lot in that yeah we can fill this thing up okay great and out yeah okay any more questions on that particular one thank you that's the last one oh that was the last one yeah right okay so I look forward um next week to

230presenting Huntington Middle School's action plan and I will take a lot of time working on that before I present it thank you so much for your feedback I really do um appreciate um the caring concern that this board has for its students and the Four A's and um I really do take your opinions and your feedback seriously so thank you well thanks for saying that I mean it I know you do um so I know the next thing says Dr Richter but that means you so you get to keep talking so the second read sure president so we are about 30 minutes past the last time we talked about it should we extend 30 minutes to get through these or probably yeah well do we have that real rule that I can only do at

231one time yeah we do have a real world that's true as far as I know that yeah I think we should do the hour because I'm you know we we have I mean this advisory committee thing um May and gender conversation more conversation and this is all because I said I want to just finish by nine o'clock today I'm just like for sure okay okay all right um I'd love to extend the meeting to 11 30. thank you um do we have a second second thank you Kelly yes Mike yes Joseph yeah Shane yes Shelly I Genie hi all right let's see if we can beat that okay um thank you president Caldwell members of the Board of Education uh board member Trend and executive team I am doing the uh second reading of board

232policy 6158.1 on independent study um so all of the changes that we were requested to make last uh meeting during the first read have been made and incorporated into the copy that you all have in your board packet um for the second reading any questions not related to the motion itself but I I reckon I'm still struggling with what we mean when we talk about independent study here versus independent study in elsewhere so if at some point we could just get some clarity on what are what do we mean by other independent study programs and for example if we have PE as an independent study or something else what does that even refer to and what's our policy on that and how is that different from this policy um okay are you referring to the

233waiver that we can provide students who are um athletes and have as an example if um we have a student who is um one of the top 10 tennis players in California right so maybe then it's just a matter of a different language yeah okay so if we can just have some clarity on that because when we're talking about independent study the form itself is called independent study and that's confusing for me and it's confusing for our parents then when they're talking about different things so if we have a policy on something that we're calling independent study that's not this can we just make sure that's consistently yes renamed or something yeah I think that's um something that we can certainly do yeah and then I will move to approved the independent study about foreign

234policy 61581 okay give a second second thank you uh Kelly yes it's Mike hi Joseph hi Jane hi Shelly aye aye thank you um so our next two are for you Dr Lynn you want to just do one and then move right into the other sure um uh thank you both president Caldwell um item 13d is an action item regarding the district status of develop with the collections and expenditures developer fees are fees that are paid by property owners and developers to school districts to mitigate the impact created by new development within the school district's boundaries on the school facilities these are typically paid to the school district as a condition of a property developer or owner obtaining a building permit from the city or county for a construction project government code requires that an

235annual report of income and expenditures from the developer fees and the beginning and ending fund balances in the capital facilities fund being made available to the public within 180 days after the end of each fiscal year government code 6601 requires a five-year report if there are any funds remaining in the in the fund at the end of the prior fiscal year in total we have an ending balance of six hundred ten thousand dollars um uh in proceeds that may be used for building or renovating schools and for portable classrooms it is recommended that the Board of Education approved the developer fee report as presented I I know that this agenda just approved for the and free but besides that you know actually the the couple School parents because they are doing a remodel before they

236did ask me so uh my question I think at the time they asking is that there's a difference if you tear down entirely until a house review or you keep the one or either they charge the same field different I know this very correct on the city exactly yeah they asked me this kind of question so they pull a permit there's a square footage um calculation um this is an accountability report yeah right it's different yeah right now I think right tonight we don't have time so I I just this question we can so the city if a permit is pulled we look at it from a square footage change perspective usually if they let's say a um a property owner a parcel owner were to create a um another unit within their backyard increase

237square footage that has an impact on our school facilities because we're looking at possible enrollment increases um so that's the intent of developer fees yeah we we did this this sounds like the answer though is if you buy a 2400 square foot house and you tear it entirely down and build a 3200 square one you're paying the fee on 800 square feet right yes so it's the Delta it's the square footage differences so I think that it answered the question don't you okay okay I moved to a police thank you um is there a second second thank you Kelly Mike hi Joseph hi Jane hi Shelly I I all right thank you again will president uh countable uh item 13 e is another action item regarding accountability to our local taxpayers our district currently has

238two parcel taxes measures e and r in accordance with the requirements of government code 50075.1 and 50075.3 the district is required to provide an accountability report of how the proceeds of the parcel taxes are being collected and expended total revenues received for measure R in 2021-22 is in the amount of 1.59 million dollars measure up paid for two elementary teachers 3.6 Middle School teachers four High School teachers one Middle School library media Specialists one district office systems analyst half high school counselor for a total of 12.1 fte's full-time improvements measure R is from 2019 to 2025. total revenue is received from measure e in 2021-22 is an amount of 4.037 million dollars I measure e paid for half a district data analyst two half-time District technologists positions one middle school counselor one high school counselor

239additional hours for district summer school summer counselors three teachers that Carver reteaches a valentine two elementary PE teachers 10 teachers at HMS equivalent of um 8.6 ftes at HMS and 11.8 teachers at the high school for a total of 31.9 ftes measure e is from 2021 to 2027. it is recommended that the Board of Education approved the district's possible tax accountability reports as of June 30th 2022 for measures R and E as presented Dr Lynn um these um totals like for instance the math teacher that includes the benefits and all of the back okay thank you right statutory benefits thank you um besides a pool for this agenda uh I have the questions related to this issue but you don't have to answer to nine in order because the last last time we failed the

240password text election so then we try to get more vote so I think the citizen we talked to the senior citizen so they they know they can have a exemption so I I would like the when you can answer your staff you know probably go out for last five years she with these two the major uh is is that the collection where it's a job or and or still the same yeah because I I I I I I know this uh issue in their discussion during the Senior Circle yeah accountability report second okay I would just comment that the two parcel taxes um cover the cost of 44 staff members in the district almost all of which are teachers I mean it's just an extraordinary number and I I think it's worthy of an article

241whenever somebody has time to write that because it's like I mean this is pretty huge and um you know absent those two parcel taxes I mean yeah granted we'd probably have to shift something you know so we wouldn't lose all 44 but I mean it it I mean it it is the difference right I mean it's really the difference right here it is okay so I just couldn't let that go unsaid um I have a motion and a second Kelly you want to vote before you go I'll only leave first I have school tomorrow yeah thank you um Mike hi Joseph hi good night Kelly Jane thank you thank you um I I'm I as well so we have that um all right so next step advisory committees yes um so this evening I have

242before the Board of Education um a document that spells out our advisory committee guidelines and essentially what we would like to do is to reinstitute a facilities advisory committee an Athletics advisory committee and an Arts advisory committee and um in order for us to be able to do that successfully we need to have guidelines and so we have the document in front of you um the question that I I guess I would ask the board at this time is whether or not the Board of Education wants to move forward in um overseeing these advisory committees or if they would like them to be superintendent um lead communities looking at Shelly and she's already laughing um going back to governance right and and going back to the fact that these um committees are really working groups

243that are advisory only in nature um and they they are not um decision makers they're um a group of stakeholders within our school Community or expanded uh community that gets together and um assesses um particular issues of uh either concern or uh projects that we might have before them so having said that I mean that's a conversation that Jeannie and I have had word president Caldwell and I have had [Music] um I am comfortable either way um I am going to be serving on these committees either way one way or the other um but this document that's before you today is to allow you an opportunity to review their charge their code of conduct their scope of work and recommendations and reports that would be made to the Board of Education um and then it

244says here in section seven that I would be the liaison between the board and advisory committees um some school districts have um these committees under the board's charge and some school districts have these committees under the superintendent's charge so either way what will happen is these committees will be reinstituted we will need to develop a process in having them selected either by appointment or application or both so um did you want to I do I was just waiting for you to finish okay so also before I do finish um at the bottom of the the document it um outlines the the charge directive membership and terms um chair and membership appointment uh meeting schedule minimum quarterly more if decided by committee and formal reporting to the board so this document is really set up so

245that it's a board committee um and with that I turn it over to president Caldwell so um one of the things that I've actually spent a fair amount of time talking to Linda about is um you know I as many of you know we established these committees when um I was first on the board with Joseph Joseph was all very much part of that um it surprised me a little bit that many of them were no longer around and I mean not I mean I I think that there are a lot of reasons why that's the case you know it's it's really critical to have very engaged parents and other you know community members as part of these committees it can become a little bit rote unless you have someone who's a real thought leader

246kind of chairing that committee um and I think that's kind of the critical point um you know so when I look at advisory committees I think they're critical actually I think it's how you get people who have you know really strong interest in you know an area that's equally important to the district and the board um to help us deliver and Implement what we want to see happen and it just expands our our sort of you know ability to to focus and deliver to more than just our staff and ourselves um it also gives us direct feedback both to that community and them to us so we make sure we're all on the same page about where our targets and goals are um you know so so kind of along those lines this is an

247area that I really hope that we do re-institute for our key areas of focus um I personally believe that these committees should report to Linda and not to us I do think it's helpful to have a board member liaison to those committees just like we do with the others but in this case it's um you know it's it's it's a way for Linda to leverage these committees to help deliver on some of these goals that we have and and to align you know the expectations of others um so not unlike the documents we just went through with our goals this too becomes a um a bit of a education effort a marketing effort a PR effort you know it's kind of where we just really ensure we're all on the same team um I I

248I'm a big proponent of appointing um I think we absolutely must appoint the chair um we should know who our thought leader is for these areas and we should encourage that person to lead that effort for us I think along those lines there should be a core part of the committee which is also appointed for much those same reasons because that's the group who's likely going to lead the effort I do think applications are important because we don't necessarily know everyone and an application is a great way for us to get other people who may be interested but we need to come up with a way that we kind of deliver that let's see were there other areas that I was nope I think that's really it so you know I I would love to

249see all of these committees put back in place I'd like to see them you know report to Linda and I'd like to see us take advantage of appointments okay uh first of all I'd like to make a comment because uh I've been too too long here and then for your your time you know we initiate a couple the committee in the beginning and look a very very good when parents for example I and Krishna initial academic advisory committee for the first couple years you know USC Professor Care Tech you know The Accidental whatever or some dedicated parent but then the last five years you know the the people applying for the Academia became you know it's just for their own kids okay just for their own kid and they pick up the the the the

250the topic just for their own kid so so then as I mentioned this is the K-12 Unified School District yeah it's not just just Elementary or the high school so so that's my coming back but another comment I have uh it will uh advisory committee is that we also want including for acidity uh committee because I I just mentioned I went to County to listen to meeting listen about the bank issue is that if we you you want to put promote a bomb eventually the committee is that they have some legal issue is another report to all or reports I mean you know what what we talked so this is actually kind of what started the conversation is the facilities advisory well I mean I I think the uh facility advisor committee I want to

251set aside because that one I think is more well related to the legal issue also we need to verify when the the the the education department she is that whatever what what is always so the the facilities advisory committee again is only advisory they don't make any decisions so they they can only make recommendations that's what they keep mentioned you you know the they may have a lot of function when you issue the pump that is required um yeah that's okay totally different yeah okay so you made I mean you know the for for us that transition from advisory to oversight happened before we were on the board I don't know whether that people stayed the same I know they changed a lot over time so yeah you know it may be that you you

252know if you haven't killed the people on The Advisory oversight some of them may transition um and you probably need some too because that's where the history is right but I mean at the end of the day that's I mean they're both huge jobs and you know in the case of the oversight committee for the last two bonds I think it lasted 10 years yeah I mean it was a that's a big commitment you know I I think um I I think back to when we had the facilities advisory committee and the information that was provided to the board from the facilities advisory committee was very valuable um because then I later was involved in trying to pass the bond and we were relying heavily upon the information and the The credibility and the research

253and the data from the facilities advisory committee um these committees are what's going to give the the ammunition to allow the board to to or allow the community to know how they want to make things happen with a bond or whatever it is um therefore I think uh the issue of the community hearing directly from the committee so they would still appear yeah from them I mean think of it like the assistant superintendent role right they would almost perform that way so what I was thinking is I think that it's very important that when we're talking about the facilities advisory committee doing a lot of work to show what our facilities need um that they are reporting directly to the board because when they're reporting directly to the board they are reporting on a recording

254directly to the community and therefore there's no argument there's no perception that it's being filtered by by anybody whoever that superintendent is at any time in the future of the district that's what allows the the information the community to know well what did the facilities advisory committee say what did they find what did they learn what did they recommend well I heard directly from them because that presentation was reported directly to the board so I I think that when we're talking about the academics advisory committee the facilities advisory the art any of these committees that there's there's a crucial part of having it reported directly to the board and and therefore the community can see that they can go back and watch that recording know exactly that uh they heard it for their own ears

255and saw it with their own eyes um and and it just eliminates any potential argument that that it was filtered somehow and I'm and I'm not for in any way thinking obviously that you would filter anything that's not it's this has nothing to do with any specific person it just has to do with whether the community when they're being told we need this this size of a bond well what are the facilities binary committee said well I'll go back and watch that because they reported directly to the board so I I think there's a benefit to having it all being reported directly to the board so um I mean it could it can easily go either way um you know I I get the point about the communication I think that's very important and I

256do believe that the um you know the the Committees all of them um need to be able to come in and share the findings with the board um but the board sets the agenda right so if the board wants to have the facilities advisory committee come in you know quarterly monthly whatever and provide an update or presentation you can make that decision I mean it can be direct um because you also direct the superintendent to do those things so I don't think it's necessarily one or the other I mean I think you could have them report to Landa and still have the direct uh you know the direct communication from you know each of the Committees facilities especially and so maybe maybe I'm not understanding that what what is what does it mean to report

257to a superintendent as opposed to reporting to the board it's how you receive your direction right so you know like if um if let's just take the facilities advisory committee as you know sort of the beginning I mean we all know what you're the last one and so the the communication that I got was really from a bunch of different board members to be honest and to some extent the superintendent and it wasn't all the same now I've been around for a while so I could synthesize it and come up with what I thought we needed and then I restated it and everyone sort of agreed that's where it came from but honestly that had a lot more to do with my experience than it did you know like being just chair of a committee

258it is much better I think generally for one person to give a committee direction and you know so the board gives Linda the direction and then Linda gives the committee the direction and so there's not as much you know this board member tells me this and this board member tells me that which by the way is exactly what happened last time but if there was if if the board is discussing and deciding what direction they're going to give the the head of the facilities advisory committee then once you have a majority of the board that's one unit that one unit that board is one unit and the majority vote is one unit just as if the superintendent is one unit I mean you when the majority of the board says this is what we're directing

259you to do as the you know or what we're asking the advisory committee to do I don't see that there's much difference between that or the superintendent except that the community then knows no that facilities advisory committee I know exactly what they were directed to do by the board because I watched that that meeting I saw the discussion I saw the vote I know what the direction was and is that committee then doing what they're supposed to do and then they come back and they they then report their findings I just I think when we're when the consequence of these committees is academic programs or facilities bonds it's best to have the Direction come straight from the board please go get this information report it back to the board so then we can vote on

260it the entire Community can see it and there's no question because we're talking about elections on those issues which could be huge I mean it's it's 601 half a dozen the other it's probably it's not worth holding it up because the Committees are more important than where they report um you know I think it really has to do with the rigor that a board of five people can put into a committee charge and you know I don't I don't know I mean you know those of you who were on it I I got asked after all the discussion had happened so I you know like I missed all that part um like you know what I got was a lot of um reports and information and was more or less asked to try to put

261that together in the context of an ultimate recommendation so I don't know I mean I think the charge was to come up with what our bonds should be I mean it was I don't know I mean it may have been a little bit more specific than that but it was I mean it was pretty generic right and I mean there are a lot of components to that which you know this board may not even know so when you're looking at the facilities advisory committee and the fact that ultimately you're going to be recommending a bond a very big part of that is to understand that you have to have somebody come in and determine what the bonding capacity is for this community so like I don't even know if the board all you know all

262the board at the time even knew that needed to be determined um but you know we had done that before and so I did and so that was part of our discussion so I mean I think a little bit of it was I mean I don't know like it sounded like they were asking me to do it from the beginning so they might have assumed that I don't know you guys tell me but that's the piece I I mean I think the challenge is the board doesn't know what it doesn't know until the committee comes back and says it and so you kind of have to have a way that there's a little bit of fluidity here um because that's part of what you're going off to study is like what is it we need

263to do I mean the reality is we had for the last facilities advisory committee some sort of rough numbers around the areas that needed attention and what those dollars are we're gonna you know I don't see how we get a bond passed if we don't take that to uh you know substantially more detailed level the next time which means we're going to have to spend money to make this happen yeah right this isn't going to be us just sitting in a room saying you know we're taking this estimate that someone very knowledgeable gave us I mean we're going to have to have a much more detailed estimate I mean these are just the kinds of things that you know I think you learn over time and Facilities needs assessment and Facilities master plan and so

264there's a considerable expense involved in having both of those documents done um and so and we need to get started on those documents sooner rather than later probably I mean it's you know truthfully it's not worth holding up here how we choose this because I think the the Mandate is to establish the Committees um we need to then charge the Committees and so part of the idea would be that we we create the Mandate tonight by you know essentially saying we want to do these things and then what we do is we ask Linda and her leadership team to go off and create those charges so that we can say to all of you know whoever it is that we want to lead these committees here's what you need to do so perhaps that's how

265we do it is we don't necessarily have to decide right this second who it reports to I mean this is written as the board but we can always amend that if we want to later so we could agree to this and then we ask them to create charges for these groups which we then approve so to your point it's our mandate and we can determine how you know sufficiently detailed we can be I mean you can recommend house sufficiently detailed we can be and we could go from there because there probably is some Middle Ground there and I do think it's helpful for all of the Committees to have a you know here's what the outcome needs to be and here's how we think you get there but part of the reason we're engaging them

266is so they can help deliver what that sort of path is I have some concerns well questions first and then possibly leading to concerns so when we're talking about each of these cities it looks like at this point we're looking at four committees right um academic Arts Athletics and Facilities and activities right wasn't there I mean did I miss that one um no I I don't think we put our activities on this um because we're um we can add it though academics I think these were those so we talked about activities that's maybe just the original one yeah and these are the three that we thought were most pressing right now so here's my question then when we talk about implementing creating and implementing for new committees um are we talking about doing that this

267year like so I'll be one of them at once well that's that's up to the board the the one that we need right now is the facilities advisory committee because um we're looking at the possibility of solar and we'd like the fac to help us with that project um we're already moving forward with the HVAC um upgrade at Huntington and Valentine because we received user funds specifically for improving the air quality and um so we've made that decision we have to move forward on that um so that trains left the station but with the solar project what was recommended um to me by the board was to you know have an fac put together to help study that and look at it and evaluate whether we move forward with that as a project or not

268and that would be a recommendation that would come to the board by the fac so the fac is something we've been talking about for a long time um and so that one I feel is a separate one that we timeline wise because of right what we're up against on deadlines outside of our control yes as well as spending the money and all of that I feel that one we should move forward on and get to the next point the other three I have concerns over implementing three additional committees on top of that on top of everything else we're doing and mainly my concerns are the burdens on the staff I'm looking at the time for these meetings and they're only quarterly their facility ones are bi-monthly but the other ones are quarterly and they all

269involve principles and superintendent and the assistant principals and members of the community um that even if it is just quarterly that's a lot of time and I'm concerned over the Fidelity to which we will be able to accomplish real meaningful work if we are overburdening the staff to do it because I think our we have one assistant superintendent of instructional Services we have right one principle advice we don't have a lot we're very lean um so I am concerned about the burdens this would put on our Administration so I would argue that the Committees actually share the burden so let's just take the athletic one in particular we had a whole kerfuffle there at the you know beginning of the school year where we had a whole host of students that were athletes that were

270assigned into a you know important six period class that were going to miss a lot of those glasses now if that issue had come in you know like instead of it just being emails out where or messages Communications out where somehow parents had to figure out what this impact was going to be if there had been a committee to evaluate it and say hello hello let's raise a little flag here you know our basketball teams our soccer teams our baseball teams that have two games a week are going to miss this important six period class for the entire schedule of their um you know their their games then we wouldn't have even had the problem and then our staff wouldn't be undoing the problem and figuring out how to place these kids into different classes

271today this is why it's important to have a different train of thought there because parents are you know I mean they they are very focused on a lot of things and this is a you know in a controlled way a Charged way a really good way for them to be able to give that feedback so we know the issue like we don't have to think of the issue the leadership team doesn't have to think of the issue the principal doesn't have to think of the issue it comes up because it gets addressed and the same is true with the activities I mean it's all the same these are this is I think to me it's sharing the load and not having them carry the load not having our staff carry the load can I is

272that does it make sense and I'm not advocating for it I'm just asking who um I think it's important that there is a activities as well but to combine the Arts Athletics and activities advisory committee I don't think so because they're very different groups so you know like okay so I mean okay share some of the same concerns for example missing missing a sixth period there's there's speech and debate uh competitions that will pull kids out of six period on certain occasions there's there's you know uh games that will do it for athletics as well and there may even be a vapa programs there may be some shared interest and perhaps there's some you know view of just those shared interests but generally the The Advisory committees are um there to deepen our strength in

273those individual areas so the vast majority of what you know like the Athletics advisory committee would be looking at are things exactly like the um I mean it was the the Athletics group actually is the one who started that portal where we tried to get the elementary kids and the middle school kids interested in taking their athletic prowess into the high school um the Arts came and did the same thing with the band I mean there were a lot of those things happening but that's where a lot of those ideas came from smcaa you've heard of that that was developed by the Athletics advisory committee because they were trying to funnel that athletic Talent into the high school the same thing should be existing in those other disciplines for you know everything else they need

274to collaborate I mean but that's something we can design but I think the I mean I I just honestly don't believe that people who have an interest in athletics have that same passion in you know a field that's not theirs um yeah I understand that um but I also understand the point that Jane's talking about which is um he when there's more too many cooks in the kitchen no there's not enough hours and and there's Maybe a concern that there's not enough volunteers in the population that occurred to me because I know that you know when when our community is extremely giving with its time with all of its resources but there's only so much that can be given and so um I don't I don't know the answer I'm just I'm trying to include

275because right now we don't have activities listed here which we should because that's just as important as any athletic advisory committee or or Arts you know advisory committee or so on but uh so I do think that that should be included but then because we don't have enough hours in the day and there may be a concern over time about the number of volunteer hours that can be given how do we address that and and could it potentially be combined I don't know I understand what you're saying though they're very different and I and I I get that so I think they are very different and I would just ask the board to consider the fac for tonight if we can't make a decision and come to agreement on the others and then we can

276bring them back next time we meet or the following whatever your preference is but I really would like to get started on on a facilities advisory committee there's so much work that needs to be done in preparation for um a 2024 measure and I think that if we continue to delay that um it's it's going to make it really difficult for us to throw everything together at the last minute and we really do need stakeholder involvement in that um so is that possible Mr Champion uh look at the this proposal look look like you know they reduce the Community member at the lodge right like for example acidity on only uh we will only get the full so it was for you know one architect one maybe the contractor and then maybe one structural engineer

277and then maybe another one yeah like like uh air conditioned uh specialist I I think the entire facility I think probably look more specialty in the different yeah so so you think it is a full enough or not they may have a different view you know resistantial commercial I mean I think it needs to be the number of people that you need what it shouldn't be though is everyone who applies right so I think these numbers are um flux level right because we may not have for people who have those um areas of expertise we may have a lot that come forward I don't I don't know um but we can be flexible with the numbers depending on what we get I I appreciate that the the time issue with regard to the facilities advisory

278committee um you know maybe what we could do is add a activities advisory committee to this list approve them all yep um get the applications see what pans out if there's not enough to fill in some of the other apps you know advisory committees then then we come back and regroup and figure out what we're going to do at that point I mean because the issue of limited volunteer hours may actually not be an issue at all I mean we may have plenty of time to do these but well but I think it's good to you know like I mean you've included all of them obviously there's a need for them so put them all in but also add the activities so I agree about adding the activities um I think that you know there

279is a step between um you know first of all I don't want it to be I I don't recommend it being just application I think we we and by we and Linda um we need to determine who the Champions are of these activities today and from that we need to work with uh you know principles of the you know the campuses to figure out who we would like to um ask to share it and then that chair is going to know the other Champions right like who else is interested in this and I think they help build it and that becomes the Crux of the committee and applications or just so we don't leave out anyone that would be a great ad no I I I agree I agree with you I and I've my

280intention of saying see who applies really was sort of like this whatever just just the generic show everything you said in one sentence let's just see how it pans out but uh the activities I mean I agree with what you're saying you've got to have that process that you're talking about but we also you know I I don't I mean I don't disagree if we don't have interest from the community um you know that's another statement I mean part of our job is to generate the interest so I mean I think we have to make that happen too but um and we reassess at that point yeah yeah I mean I I would I think we should approve this but add an activities advisory committee to it okay or you want to make that motion

281sure I'll make the motion to approve um the uh advisory committee recommendation with the modification that there is an activities advisory committee added and then uh the superintendents can work to fill in the the chart or work with the whoever you feel is appropriate to fill in the charge and the membership and make those recommendations for the activities advisory committee do we have a second I just don't feel ready to move forward on all four I feel very strongly about the facility advisory committee I feel that that is something we have talked about very extensively we know we the charge is pretty clear when I look at the other ones and the chart there's no it's very vague I don't know what that means so I'm hesitant to move forward on something that hasn't been

282fleshed out as much um well I think there's you know the the next step for all of the Committees would be for the charge to be established and that's something that Linda and her team would do and you know for the facilities one I mean we did it already so we know we need to duplicate what we already did which I think is why this is fleshed out um but my argument on doing the other ones is we will never advance in those areas unless we create the Committees I mean we just sat here and listened to the activities that were listed in the against our board goals and we all had conversations about how those other A's are going to move forward they're not in here they have to be done I mean if

283we if we're serious about it we have to see that happening and I just don't see it happening with you know just the staff we have the only time we've ever really been able to make meaningful Improvement in uh you know in any of those areas is through the use of advisory committees and we did that with academics and we've done it with Athletics I just don't know why it would be difficult to do it with you know to do it a again and to add arts and activities so do you use second emotion well I will but I don't want to be that person I mean I'm trying not to because I I mean this needs to be a board decision it will be a board decision if there's a second of the motion

284well you know I mean the reality is if I second and no one else is willing to Second it's not going to pass so if none of the other board members are going to do it it's going to be an issue um I'm just wondering if we could combine arts and activities I don't think we should combine anything I mean like we're compromising what we want to accomplish before we've even started to try to do it okay I mean I don't want to do that if we have to come back and talk about it with this group fun we'll do that because you know like my job is to help sell it but I definitely don't want to compromise it I don't see it as difficult I mean I really don't see this as a

285difficult decision but clearly that may be because I've done it before so that could be the difference so I uh well I I think part of my concern also has to do and I'm not quite sure what the objective that we're trying to accomplish here if the advisory committees come before the board and then say this is what they're advising um I mean they're telling the board what and then the board turns around and tells the schools I mean I guess I'm a little bit confused here on blurring the lines between governance and and administration so let's take the Athletics one again you know so we we have the plaque issue right and you know so the the we at least um you know it still would need to be covered on arts and activities

286but it would have at least been handled at the athletic advisor committee and there would have been some recommendation across all Athletics so I think it's more like just having a group that thinks through those complex issues so you're not relying on just the principle to do it I mean there really is a much bigger thought process around how you expand what you do but we're you know part of the issue we had with the academics advisory committee and and this is part of what Linda and I talked about is you know there there is an element of you know crazy wild thinking that you want people to have um but they're also that has to be balanced with here are the things that we must get accomplished and how might we do those in

287the best way possible and so part of the issue is in our mandates and our charges that we want to create around these would be to design how that works so you know you you want to like I don't know I mean I I don't recall all the things our academic Advisory Group did maybe Joseph does you know but there were some things that we probably couldn't get to um or weren't necessarily aligned with what we wanted to see um that's where you'd want to have I mean I assume it would be Dr Victor as the person on that committee she would be the one that would sort of help regulate what they're working on and why I mean if there's no appetite for doing something then we you know we want to be able

288to have some control back and forth but on the if if I could just say we got 15 minutes to approve a teacher uh contract and to figure out what we're doing here so if I've got a motion that's on the floor and nobody's going to Second it then I would please ask another board member to make a decision and put together another motion so we can move forward it's 11 15 at night and we've got medical teacher Union contract we have to approve okay uh I I think the facility advisor committee uh there's a need and pretty soon we have to have but but maybe it's not ready for tonight so I like to make make a motion maybe it's just a table and give two more weeks yeah tables agenda yeah and and

289then go to discuss for the the T and H yeah so we can either put those on to the next Mo on to the next agenda or the one after that I think we may have at least one board member who's not going to be at the next meeting but that's fine I'll second that motion all right so what I'm so sorry so we're going to remove your motion for now well there was no second so it died so now Joseph made a motion to just approve the facilities advisory committee is that what you moved I'm confused my emotion India don't look like everyone is not really so they need to just table Yeah you want a table wall four the the discussion completely yeah yeah table yeah Mike I would make an amendment that

290we followed the recommendation of our superintendent that we need a facilities advisory committee and that we approve the facilities advisory committee tonight and then we come back on another day and deal with the other advisory committees do we have a second amended motion which is to move forward with the facility advisory committee correctly tonight yes all right any discussion all right so Mike would you like to be the first vote hi Joseph aye Shane hi Shelley hi Genie hi okay so we'll table the rest for our next meeting or two meetings from now because okay I won't be there at the next okay um okay so do you want to do the teacher Association tentative agreement yes thank you both president Caldwell um item 13g is an action item regarding the tentative agreement between the

294you for allowing me to speak tonight I just wanted to um to just make a comment and I wanted to reiterate what Dr Lin had mentioned uh before uh we did have a very collaborative sessions we um we we sat down throughout each week and we looked at many different scenarios we looked at many different ways in which we could accomplish both our needs and the needs of the district and and I did feel like um we were in a very um in in a way it was a very trusting uh I guess uh setup or or process this year so I just wanted to thank the District administration and the members of the um of the negotiating team for trusting thank you appreciate the comment or you know for listening to to our needs

295and uh and just to make sure that that I reiterate that that we are happy with with the results thank you thank you thank you Mr Kyer well hang on because I think we're going to vote all right thank you yeah so we have a first and a second right is that okay all right so Mike would you like to be the first vote aye Joseph aye Jane hi Shelly I I great and do you are you doing H as well yes thank you again uh item 13h is an action item regarding the approval of fiscal impact of the San Bruno teachers associate bargaining agreement as discussed in the previous action item in accordance with California government code 3547.5 educational code 42142 and the Criterion standards adopted by the state of board of State Board

296of Education the district has publicly posted a disclosure of collective bargaining agreement in response to a tentative agreement with smta for the 2022-23 fiscal year earlier this evening the district received the response letter from leico our County Office of Education with regards to the fiscal impact of the bargaining agreement with the San Bruno Teachers Association in the letter the County Office of Education states that the district's Financial the district's Financial analogy as reflected in the disclosure projects it is able to maintain the minimum required reserves for the term of the agreement it is recommended that the Board of Education approved the district's AB 1200 report disclosure as presented thank you um do you have a motion to do so would you approve thank you from Jane second second Shelley any questions comments discussion before we

297vote I just wanted to say thanks to you to Dr Lynn for finding all of the coins in the couches to make this happen um and I want to say thank you to the state because we give the state a lot of um grief but they really pulled through on this one to give additional base and um address the Ada issue all right so Mike would you like to be our first vote again hi Joseph hi Jane hi Shelley hi hi all right um any superintendent board discussion items something very important you all have your dinner in my office please pick it up and take it with you uh before you go home so it doesn't go to waste one thing I would like to ask is on in a previous meeting which the issue

298came up again tonight was the issue of the plaques that was that were approved to be done for the football team only there was discussion during that um that issue that it would find its way back onto a future board meeting agenda so that all the other uh programs teams clubs and student interests could also uh have the same type of plaques across all of our campuses I would request that we please put that on an agenda either the next agenda or the one after that because right now frankly I think that there's favoritism for one program and not for all the others and I think we need to allow that to happen for all of the different programs well I think we need to find out first whether or not they have interest in

299that um so maybe that's something the superintendent can pursue sure um I don't want to make them do something they don't want to do but if they want to do it then the board certainly would welcome the conversation yeah but I think life also falls under the act I don't think it does I mean it you know it would have if we'd had one but you know I mean [Laughter] I'm gonna bug you about it forever because before I leave here I really think we have to have it and I mean it's it's I mean well and to that no I would say board superintendents discussion items I would ask that we do look at this again I just would like to see it fleshed out a little bit more because I just feel uncomfortable

300with yeah Genie um Joseph and I and you we were here during all of the committee work and I saw firsthand all the benefits of the committee I can speak uh specifically on the academics advisory and on the Athletics advisory in terms of what we were able to accomplish so I'll I will be able to speak on that at the next meeting if it's on the agenda right so but I think to the plaque point though I mean it honestly all we're doing is we're making it available for those who wish to pursue it I agree I and no way intended to Force anybody to do anything it was to open a door and to allow these programs to do that uh Jane if that's what they would like to do but right now they're

301not permitted to even think of it well but they are permitted to think of it they just haven't they're not permitted to raise money and to have plaques like the football team well they haven't been invited to consider that so and I think that's all we're saying is that we believe that it should be an opportunity for any organized recognized group in our campus and on any of our campuses and we just need to figure out a way to make that happen I mean the reality is that's how we fund these activities that's kind of how it's going to happen and so we have to be able to do it and I I I get anxious about us studying things to death right like there's no way we can go out and figure it out

302because quite frankly we need champions for these efforts and we don't have them and so we have to get that in place and I think it just does what Mike says which is creates an opera opportunity and removes you know maybe some perception um I I see football as just being smart enough to ask not getting favorability you know but having said that you know that's my view and others may see it differently and either way everyone should be entitled to do it so it doesn't matter to me at the end and I think what we do is we just the way we make it happen is we put it on the next agenda because otherwise it's not happening if it's not an agenda I'm okay I'm going to work with the High School administration

303to um you know talk to the uh different program heads and find out if they are in fact interested and if they're interested I don't think they care if they're interested if they're interested I mean that's what I'm saying it's like some of us may care but I personally don't care okay what I care about is when they become interested that there's a mechanism for them to do it and and it should be like the band here yeah I mean like it's any campus it doesn't have to be any size right that's what my most that's exactly what my motion was when I tried to say let's approve it for all campuses all programs so I appreciate that you're saying that because that that is nearly Verbatim what I was trying to see I learned

304so I think it's great didn't we make uh I I think as I mentioned in this public school you know we actually everyone is equally but we need to realize for the football you know booster you know those people they really because they want to do something and then they they jump out and give I still remember I and the genie you know 2000s in the community people against to us and it takes several months and and then even want to blow me off we need people want to want to and step out and Advocate you know you know that's the way it can be the successful well that's what I'm trying to do right now I'm trying to advocate for that but that's good I'm trying to Advocate yeah I'm trying to advocate for

305every other Athletic program I am doing what you're asking that's done so I would like to have that happen so that all of the students of all the campuses can have their passions promoted as much as the football team I think what we want to do is um you know if we ideally the 1011 agenda um if not then what 10 28 whatever the next Tuesday is I'm not sure but you know one of our October board meetings I I think preferably the next one yeah you know is that okay okay yes and you want me just to bring it back the same way it came to the board on the football right well maybe you send it to us I mean like maybe send it now if you don't mind just so we see

306it and if anyone has input on how they would like to see that added to the agenda I mean it could be exactly so I I can't do that without violating the brown act right I have to send it to you because you're the board president and you're the one that works with me on the agenda because if I send it to all of you and you're deliberating on something that is going to be agendized and discussed it aboard meeting that's writing together I'm just asking people to edit I think at some point though as long as it's on the agenda then we can discuss it so as long as you come up with something with her yeah then we shouldn't do it the next meeting it should be the next one I don't need

307to be here no I think it would be helpful if you were okay October 28th All right so that's number 28th okay thank you thank you good night everybody thank you so much
