005science and drama buildings along with the further additions about it and the schedule the time schedule as well as the synthetic turfers going to foster city elementary they gave us an update on a traffic light installation that's going to be put in near beach park elementary and also an update on the levy itself overall is a very good meeting and just wanted to share those updates additionally the week the week before um i attended a santo county school board association meeting where the topic was about retaining staff and the staff shortage and this is county-wide and so they didn't necessarily just talk about teachers but also uh general staff as well so counselors aides uh custodians the whole thing and um and my one comment is is that it's sort of a reflective moment while
006a number of districts were making comments about their staff shortages of course we as a very large district have some too uh we do not have any at least at the time that i knew we didn't have any vacant teacher positions but uh we have do we do have a small amount of staff positions but in comparison to everybody else um we're doing a really good job and i just wanted to thank superintend chola and um and sue sue i know you're there you're just not off camera but thank you for um all your hard work that you guys are doing so just wanted to bring you guys up to speed on that i attended the pta council this past monday and you know of course we went over council business but we also had
007a really really good discussion about um equitable fundraising and how there's certain ptas that do raise quite a bit of money and then there's other ptas that don't raise as much money um we had a great conversation with the different pta presidents as well as representatives from the ed foundation and um superintendent ochoa attended as well um we also started talking about the strategic goals that we as a board are starting to create and how pta could tie into that so it was a really really good very productive meeting i'll just share a brief update about the sanctuary task force they are continuing to meet bi-weekly we are continuing to meet bi-weekly um there was an event with the mission asset fund um at the end of january and that was open to all families
008to learn about um let's see safeguarding their finances and creating financial plans and um there will be a partnership with our district and faith in action which works um towards organizing uh folks that are directly impacted by issues around the issues that um you know that they see as priorities and so we're welcoming them into our district to to do that work with our families yes i'll i'll stop there jesse watkins do you have anything to share or no okay i will just share that um i attended most of the communications meeting yesterday and i won't give away too many details because i know there's a presentation tonight but there was a really good conversation around the um strategic plan the goals that we set at our last new special meeting and just ways that
009the communications can support those goals and so it will be ongoing but um just wanted to share that and we will hear more tonight i'm sorry also i forgot to mention um i also attended the city of san mateo diversity equity and inclusion meeting and that was also at the end of january it was just the first meeting in what will be monthly meetings for the entire year so it was really good to just see all of the different organizations and and stakeholder groups represented there and looking forward to continuing that work so we're going to dive into our purpose and yeah make that a more clear next meeting okay we will move on to item 4.4 sumida smia updates just one moment as we bring them onto the panel here hi everyone i wanted
010to start off by apologizing for missing the last meeting i tweaked my back and it just was not happening um so i also wanted to thank donora for being able to step in at the last minute and it gave you all a chance to meet her and she's wonderful so i'm happy that that actually happened for her um so new for cse we ratified two new positions so that the district can now hire for them the behavior technician and the board certified behavior analysts so that's exciting um and then i realized the last meeting i attended when chad was speaking and he was going on and on about how wonderful gina is i realized i failed gina completely because i was supposed to say something not related to how wonderfully she is she is wonderful
011but totally besides that um and it was a little it was more valid then but i'm still going to say it now because i think it's pretty much just an ongoing thing that we need um a lot of people while this surge was happening were asking how they could help and the best way you can help is to sign up to sub um if you have a 30 day credential or if you have passed i believe it's called the sea best julie mcarthur corrects me when you pop on if i am wrong um please sign up to sub we can always use subs you don't have to sub all the time this doesn't mean that your full-time position you can just pick it up when you want to do it and that would be great
012um a lot of positions are actually sub-able teachers administrative assistants paris custodians we all know we need custodians i really don't know how chris hansen's doing it at this point but yeah so that would be a great way to help and again it's not like a full-time thing if you're wanting to help you can get paid at the same time and it would be great um and then speaking of covet and numbers are finally going down just a friendly reminder that it does still exist and i know the super bowl is coming up and i know some people are like ea sports i'm more like a commercials and appetizers but still please please and have a great day and do it safely that's all i thought thank you alicia you had it right it is
013the sea best i want to start with giving a shout out to all of our counseling staff out there it is national counselors week and the work they are doing this year is extraordinary and helping kids re integrate back into in-person learning helping them recover from the pandemic um so huge thank you to all of our counselors out there um and a shout out as well to everyone who helped pass the bond measure that allowed us to have a full-time counselor at every school it is making a difference so thank you money well spent um smita is looking forward to our first bargaining session with the district next week and there are 30 days until spring break thank you is there anyone from samia tonight oh i have one more thing i'm so sorry um
014i do want to also say at least for me personally i thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors and maskless so uh thank you to everyone who made that happen um we appreciate it thank you hey thank you um alicia and julie um we will move on well i was going to say i'm looking forward to the halftime show but and happy national account first week but anyways let's move on to item 4.5 announcements any announcements sorry i was just waiting to see if anyone else wanted to jump in um uh first i'm just going to add something to my previous statement for the report out i wanted to just share that the sanctuary task force also hosted cal fresh medi-cal events and next time i will share these ahead of time but they did host events partnered
015with our county in mandarin and in portuguese because we know that there are many families that have different language needs in in our school district and um and then also happy black history month i wanted to give a shout out to the black his black history museum that's they actually have a location in redwood city um let me let me pull up this name um but it this museum was basically uh how do i say this um not creative but yeah i guess create it was created by a a grandmother in belmont who had her grandson ask her you know like i want to learn more about our history and she has dedicated years of her life to collecting items in history of um about black people and their contributions and it's a really large
016exhibit and so it's in the city of redwood city right now at the let me find it it's like right in the plaza um yeah actually let me find it and i'll i'll get back to everyone with the exact address but it's open all month oh here it is it is open all month at 890 jefferson avenue in redwood city and it will also be open again june 4th through the 12th at the event center during the county fair where it's actually open yearly at the county fair thank you sorry so it's dominique hoskins black history and learning center and uh yeah i gave it's 11 to 5 p.m and i already gave the address so sorry all done now thank you any other announcements okay we will move on to item 4.6 superintendent report
017thank you president proctor members of the board the public tonight's superintendent's report is going to start with a double recognition a double clap for trustee corzo pointing out the tremendous resource that's in our community in redwood city i think it's a very powerful story to think about a grandmother saying we need something in our community um she named the resource center the museum after her grandson dominic jackson dominique hoskins and it's just a very powerful story i like being in a community where that sort of um love that sort of pride exists um and we really want to encourage people to get out there and see it um so thank you for bringing that up and i just want to elevate that and lift that even more um during black history month in addition to
018that as a district we are initiating a series of parent engagements next week we are having two online cafe con diego events so i'm going to ask our parents to warm up that cup of joe and join me next monday and next tuesday for uh our cafe con diego events an email was sent to all families yesterday afternoon with links to the zoom events diego perez our communications staff member told me he had several people log in to join the meeting but it doesn't start until next monday so if you log in now you'll be there for a few days waiting um but you can always go back to that email and or put that that link in your calendar on wednesday we're going to have a youtube live stream we are talking mass guidance
019we are talking covet mitigation strategies we are talking covet data and we are talking warm demands related to footsteps of brilliance and st math are two new district-wide programs k-3 for footsteps of brilliance and k-8 for st math so we're excited about that we want you to join us at that event as well and then in addition to that a reminder about the district's uh reports that we put out um and a reminder about the district's covent mitigation strategies that are layered and highly effective and in many cases among the most early initiated throughout the state of california and those are pool testing as you know we can still sign you up we still have families signing up now it's a wonderful program it has really helped us identify positive cases in classrooms and follow
020up with rapid antigen testing we have kn 95 max at all sites we've got boxes of them ready for anybody who wants one i'm wearing one tonight um we have temperature checks at home we have hand sanitizer we wash hands on campus when we get into tight spaces we try to distance or make smart decisions about how we group together and you know we continue to have a lot of success with these strategies last week the district had 95 attendance so we're super proud of that and super excited about that and we're looking for the next couple of months to continue to be very strong in terms of our health and safety practices and in terms of our student access to learning and i hope to continue to partner with you all and see you
021at our youtube live stream next wednesday and our two cafe con diego's monday and tuesday that's my report for tonight thank you very much okay we will move on to item 5 the proposed consent agenda all items on the consent agenda are considered by the board to be routine and will be enacted by the board in one motion in the form listed below there will be no discussion on these items prior to the time the board votes on the motion unless members of the board staff or public request specific items be removed and discussed from the consent agenda the superintendent and staff recommend approval of all consent items movement of any recommended consent items is appropriate at this time okay um diego would you mind checking if there's anyone in the audience that would like
022to remove an item well if there's anyone in the audience that would like to call upon a removal of an item please press the raise your hand functionality and i will call you in the order we receive it president procter we have no hands okay are there any board members that would like to remove an item okay um would anyone like to make a motion motion to approve the consent agenda a second thank you trustee chin for the motion and trustee watkins for the second we will do a roll call vote trustee warren yes trustee watkins yes trustee corzo yes trustee chen yes and i also vote yes we are now moving on to item six public hearing adoption of revised elections by trustee area map and resolution education code section 5019.5 do we need
023to say anything or should i just open the publication okay so it is seven o'clock i'm opening the public hearing at this point if diego do you want to check to see if there's anyone that would like to make any comments definitely diego um if you can make that announcement and uh president procter i would like to enter into the public hearing to be able to just get give a bit of background into the topic um if that's okay um with the board and so um in diego in just a couple of minutes you can prompt our meeting attendees again to raise their hand and indicate an interest in joining the public meeting the public hearing sorry thank you for that um so i want to start with um our june 10th 2021 meeting of
024the school board at our regular meeting on june 10 2021 the board received a report from legal counsel regarding the california voting rights act discussing the process to change the electoral system and adopting resolution number 34-20-21 resolution of the san mateo foster city school district stating intent of the board of trustees to transition from an at-large to a bi-trustee area election system on the 22nd the first public hearing was held to receive community comments and public testimony on the 29th of june a second public hearing was held to receive community comments and public testimony again concerning the composition of potential trustee voting areas so that was the first component the second component came in the august 6th public hearing to receive community comments and public testimony at that point in time our school board requested
025that we initiate different and new strategies to elicit public input if you all recall we had the posters we went to the bus stops we went to every feeder middle school so we did just unique or different ways to try to draw up the engagement actually we were able to get quite a bit more engagement after the fact leading us to august 16th public hearing for continued community input on august 26th meeting to hear input once again and ultimately to adopt a map and we do have david saldani i saw just a second ago diego if you can give me a thumbs up on that david soldani is legal counsel with atkinson anderson lawyer rude and romo he is um here as well and um we'll call on him in just a minute to make
026a presentation for the board this evening um but diego if you want to call on our meeting participants and invite them to join in the public hearing and afterwards we'll invite david saldani from aalr to make his presentation there are any members in the public that would like to join the public hearing please press the raise your hand functionality we have no raised hands hey david soldani um when you are ready hi good evening can you hear me okay yes okay let me know when i'm on you're up david you're on david you might be muted david we can't hear you if you're speaking should we wait just a moment it looks like he dropped off so he'll probably come back on okay this is my opportunity to take on one of my key uh
027responsibilities at school board meetings which is when necessary to fill up the time by um by engaging in some very um unrehearsed and yet uh relevant commentaries as a superintendent of the san mateo foster city school district so um one of the uh one of the he's back sorry i'm having network issues okay we can hear you david we didn't hear any of it but we can hear you now okay wonderful i apologize for the circumstances i am covering five board meetings tonight talking about redistricting um so i'm in the car driving and so my signal is coming and going i do apologize i you know under different circumstances i would be there live in front of you it'd be a much easier conversation so let me just get right to the point when you
028change your election method and you start electing by trustee areas every 10 years you have an obligation under the education code to look at how your areas have changed and make sure that your areas remain balanced and that balance is measured by total population it's a constitutional representation issue one person one vote every area should represent roughly the same number of inhabitants and so the data that we look at we would normally have looked at many months prior to this but because of covit it was late we didn't get the data until the early part of october the end of september but we do have some time to address this our deadline is the last day of february so what we have done are a couple of things we've analyzed how your population has shifted
029and again it's important to remember you've recently prepared a map but we're not talking about the shift from the time you prepared the map but we're really talking about the shift from the 2010 census to the 2020 census because the map that you just adopted months ago was based on 2010 census data so when we looked at your 2020 data your population variance or the difference between your largest and your smallest area was just a stitch under 10 percent so you do have the discretion under the education code to tighten that variance and reduce that so that as the decade unfolds and you conduct elections in those areas and as those areas grow you can maintain balance for much longer into the decade so what we were asked to do is to take a look
030at your current areas and find a way to reduce that population deviation we have prepared a few maps for your consideration that addresses that issue and that strives to keep communities together in a logical pattern in a logical way and we want to share those with you tonight to get your feedback um i am hoping that's that you can see something on the screen i'm unable to share my screen and conduct it but if there's a way for someone at the district to put the maps up there we go perfect and we can skip ahead a little bit these are just the population statistics that we uncovered after reviewing the 2020 census data what you're looking at now is what's called the heat graph it shows the distribution of protected class populations we can keep
031going and there's a couple of categories of data i want to draw your attention to their measurements there's what's called total population and that's broken down by ethnicity and that's every man woman and child there's 18 plus which measures adult age population broken down by ethnicity and then there's this strange nomenclature there an acronym it's called cfap and that stands for citizen voting age population which is a measurement of those 18 and older who are citizens that's an important metric because those are individuals who are eligible to register to vote so when we talk about population balance however we're really only using the total population as the measurement so skipping ahead here this is your current map and let's go to the scenarios because we've provided a few for your consideration after each map you
032can see that they're uh they're you know the data specifications broken down by total population and cvap are provided we've also provided a checklist some criteria that we use in drafting maps there's a couple of must do's which are you know population balance and making sure your protected class populations are appropriately distributed and then there's local considerations for example you may you may decide that you want a certain number of attendance boundaries with each stress within each trustee area etc skipping ahead let's take a look at scenario conceptual scenario one you can see how that has changed from your current map and you can also see the proposed election sequencing behind that map you will see the population statistics let's um let's actually just briefly let's go through all of them and then let's open
033it up for questions um so there's the data behind that here's here's the second version that we've prepared similar but not the same and you can see the population statistics behind that map and then we're on this is scenario three again very subtle differences and you can see the resulting change to the data points immediately following the map slide and moving forward oh no that we had three okay any questions about these draft map scenarios or about the process president proctor can i ask um a procedural question here we have um a three items this is like under the public hearing item six but then there's an item 7.1 and 7.2 are we essentially sort of combining them all into one so we can do public comment and no okay so are we just asking
034clarifying questions just for the consultant then is that it okay thank you thank you superintendent i i do have a clarifying question then thank you okay um thank you for the presentation i uh the one question i have is um can you clarify the existing map that we have that was approved on the 20 by 2010 census uh it's my understanding that that is actually based off of the analysis of the 2020 census that those map that map and those lines are i guess legally allowed for us to adopt and meaning that the population variance is under 10 percent is is that correct that is correct you have the discretion to continue to utilize that same map if that's the will of the board okay and then the second question that i have is you
035talked about the the population variance and the the fact that it is close to let's say the 10 percent and you talked about how over the years you know as development happens we would either be over it or under it or maybe i'm alluding to it um but the the question is we really wouldn't know how far over or under that deviation we would be until the 2030 census is that correct well yes and no you could actually discover that by looking at certain data sources but it would be irrelevant from a legal perspective because you're not required to account for those changes prior to the release of the next census okay thank you thank you those are my questions are there any other clarifying questions okay so um superintendent ochoa is now the time
036to close this public hearing move on okay so we will now close the public hearing at 7 14 p.m and we will move on to item 7.1 selection of a buy trustee area map at this time president proctor the recommendation of administration is to engage in a conversation among the board members here similar to the conversation you all engaged in at the august 26th meeting of the board of trustees in which the relative pluses and minuses good points and bad points preferences of the recommended maps if you recall at the august 26 meeting we had nine maps we had them numbered in the 200 series and in the 700 series and for the board to the administration recommends that the board consider this item and if so chooses to identify one of these scenarios as
037the um selected map and then to um essentially vote to approve it and um at that time at that point in time myself and david saldani are available for any questions or clarifications okay thank you does anyone have any clarifying questions on this item i'm just wondering if we going to oh just on this item i was waiting for a public moment is it so i don't know sorry i don't know that's next okay then um diego would you mind checking with the audience to see if there's anyone that would like to make a public comment on this video if there's anyone in the audience that would like to make a public comment on item 7.1 please press the raise your hand functionality and i will call upon president parker we have no hands okay
038then let's open this up to board member comments and statements so please go ahead so i'll just jump in real fast um i think that we are missing a map here as one of the choices i think the map that was chosen that we had five meetings to get to the one that was chosen last um whatever it was october or august as the map still works and i feel like i would we can have a conversation about these maps and the other ones but i feel like we're seeing one as an option and i would love to bring this item back with that option at the next meeting since i know we have another meeting to give my personal feeling is that again we went through so much effort to get to that one
039map and these other maps while there is merit for them um i personally prefer the the map that we we all got to over five meetings so but i will just make that comment and and and go from there well you know going going kind of with that i just remember none of us really liked any of the maps that were presented over the summer and that last map was one that we were like well it's the one we hate the least um so while i can see what you're saying that you know it's someone that we all decided upon i don't think any of us really were in love with it if i remember correctly and i can't speak for you guys of course but i'm just trying to go by you know the
040expressions and statements made by everybody at the time when i look at these new maps from what i can see the only real difference between map one and map two is what trusty area highlands belongs to does it belong to what is it three or five um i think yeah so in scenario two highlands um is in trustee area five and in scenario one it's in trustee area three quite honestly i either one of those i feel is is adequate and is good um i like the idea of continuing to have a foster city trustee area that will have an election this year um so that um you know their voice gets you know gets represented earlier rather than having to wait till the next cycle so um and i believe that's in all the
041three scenarios but definitely in scenario one and two so those would be one of those would be my preference and i could go either way on those so um i think i i agree can you hear me okay i think i agree with the lisa you're thinking around when we went through that really lengthy process um we weren't all like super excited about any of the maps um these new maps i think still keep in mind uh my biggest concern previously which was that we give north central um its own district and not cut it up in in some of those like first versions of the maps that we were all just like no right um i also want to note that we obviously have um a different uh uh demographer and i just want
042to like point out the like just the quality of our presentation of the maps of the information on the maps um i think is greatly improved and something that um you know we basically corrected course on um i want i've been looking at the um so if you go back to the trustee the sorry the district graphics for current areas and you look at the 2020 census population total so i'm basically looking at page two of the presentation um north central has the absolute lowest population um in any of uh of any of the the areas and um i don't think that's ideal i think that's something that is addressed although you know it's not the it's not in the top three in any of them but it's at least not the last um and
043when i just think about communities um like how our community uh like i i do feel like central is connected to north central um they're like the the neighborhood even going into like nate 19th of um you know like do you do you guys know where kmart used to be and there's like this like little entryway in this neighborhood it's only like the entrance is on delaware and then the exit is on um grant um i feel like that's still central even though it's its own little neighborhood there um and there's station park green um where i'm moving to very soon and um and that's all renters and tenants um so i think that makes sense to me um that's all i have for now but uh curious to hear about everyone else's perspectives i'm
044happy to chime in um i mean i think i'm i'm in agreement with um uh both trustee warren and trustee corzo about you know appreciating um these versions um i mean i i think the variance um is definitely something not to be you know over looked in terms of these um how much variance there was in the previous one and to be honest i don't know that until this was re-brought up in this context that i was even like really thinking about how important that was um and should have been but um i i do think it's something that we really need to be thinking about and i don't i don't think there i i mean trusty chen i'd be interested for you to share a little bit more about kind of your thoughts on
045on that one especially given the variance piece of things because for me i just i don't really see a strong justification um based on that and and i also don't feel like these are like so so different that i don't know i just feel like the benefits of what was changed outweigh kind of any minor differences i personally um i'm just looking at all these to make sure i'm saying the right number um personally i'm favoring the met the first one um with highlands baywood and park being one area um and i mean i i also agree just in terms of kind of sequencing that matters in terms of stability in terms of consistency in terms of um and and so i think the way that they're sequenced i think across all three where um
046trusty areas one and two pop up in 2022 and trustees three four and areas three four and five pop up in which i think again helps to maintain kind of some consistency potentially some consistency and stability um and allows for you know a new trusty area and all of these scenarios to be represented um that's really important so i guess those are kind of my initial thoughts um um okay i will share my thoughts as well um very similar to what every well the other three said um i think that i really like that the variance we got it um more more balanced where there's not such a huge difference between the highest and the lowest population of the trustee areas i think that i would agree that the quality of work that we received
047here and the information that we have to look at is much improved from what we had the first time around and i also think that um having an election in foster city in november is important just because we are two cities in um in one school district and i think that it's important to have someone from foster city on the board and so i um i support the sequencing that we have here and um to me also i think scenario one makes sense to me as well um so i think that's everything i have to say but trusty tingey do you want to clarify for um trusty watkins what she was talking about yeah uh no definitely thank you um i also feel like without actually having our original map as an option i feel
048like we can't um i can't fully you know advocate for it because it's not even an option but um just a couple points i absolutely agree that we need to modify our election schedule because as it is foster city would not have an opportunity to vote every election and so by altering the map numbers um foster city definitely would have an opportunity to vote on each evening year election which is really important so i'm absolutely there also the change in the consultants in terms of the graphics absolutely agree the other one had an old sort of gis [Music] look to it this has a very nice polished professional sort of look to it and it's much easier to read going back to when we first started this process my number one priority was north central
049and it's always been north central and so when i listed out my top three uh north central was always so um that sort of had sort of given me sort of aligning me to my thoughts when i look at these three maps i look at the fact that what we're actually doing is we are balancing out based on population variance right and so we are actually increasing the north central area to include uh the 19 thousand homeowners association station park green the future development at the crossings as well as uh glaze and wood and some other areas there in hayward park to me that doesn't necessarily sit well with me because the idea about protecting the north central is about making sure that they have a vote when you go ahead and expand this area
050just purely based off of population variance for that main reason then i feel like what we're doing is diluting the vote in north central and i'll use this argument trustee corsa you had the same argument when we were talking about going from seven trustees to five trustee areas the fact that if we had seven trustee areas it would dilute uh north central's vote so my issue actually is that the law allows us to have a 10 variance we have that in the old map it doesn't dilute the north central vote to me our board and everything that we have done has been about sort of equity focused right what this is doing in terms of the population variance by making it sort of like let's make everybody even that's the equality argument that's not the
051equity argument the accurate argument is making sure north central gets what they need at this moment right and to me what it is is it's a lower it's it's a higher population variance with a lower with a smaller map to make sure that north central has a vote and so at the moment one and two does not do that for me number three does but there's there's problems with number three in my opinion but you know if if we had to pick and have to vote for one i personally would go with number three uh if our old map was an option i would go with the old map because again it's about it's about equity it's about the idea that we are now deciding what north central can get you know for the next
05210 years it's three election cycles so central will be up for vote this november 2022 then again 2026 and then 2030 and i'll bring in 2030 because we will not have the new census numbers yet to change them out so it's three three opportunities for north central to actually have a say in how this school district is run so my argument is like again i understand where the population variance is coming from but that's not us that's not us and that's not what we've been doing you know when we talk about our strategic growth we talk about student achievement we talk about you know whole child is what our last meeting was and then we talk about equity and to me the north central and what previous boards have done to north central with the
053business and everything was a reverse gentrification and the idea is what we're trying to do now is make them whole and so that's why i feel strongly that these maps actually don't work for me and it's mainly comes down to north central so i i feel pretty strongly about it i'm happy to further discuss i do understand that i may be the minority vote here and so whatever the board decides of course i will go along with i'll leave it with one other comment the comment is what we always hear what is our most impactful thing that we do as a board member what everyone says to us when we're when we're in our trains and everything else is hiring the right superintendent right that's the number one however i will say that moving from
054at-large elections to district elections and getting this map right is right up there this is how we are going to affect not only how our district is perceived and how to run but who is elected so that's my those are my arguments um i'm happy to have those discussions i just feel like i feel like we need to have the other map i actually have as an option so i hear your your point i think um i think it's safe to say that everyone on our board cares and is prioritizing north central um i think i hear your point about like inc like let's it's okay for example to have the population variance go up in north central so i'm wondering like is there a way that is just as a clarification so the population
055variance is not about one that goes up or not it's the deviation between the highest and the lowest yeah right right so it's all of them so it doesn't really it's not really one area versus the other it's just the difference between the like let's say area two versus area four or one versus five it's that that deviation so as someone who is from north central and who has and is and will continue to prioritize and center north central and its needs and and you know the the how do i say this i want to like take a step back and think about different things that that we have on our radar for the next 10 years right we know that we are doing an equity review of our entire district we know that we
056are going and and you know working on giving our central back a neighborhood school and um you know there's already ideas about how to make that school successful and how to put more resources into north central i also think that sunny brae is a school very much like um that has has a lot of north central kids that attend there and is in a neighborhood that is very much connected to north central they share part of a name right and that's not i don't think that's by accident necessarily um we're talking about a very small addition toward north to north central to the north central area um and i and i i don't see this as diluting the power that north central will have i also want to highlight again i think i've talked about
057this publicly but the north central neighborhood did uh was was awarded a koshland grant and those are things that are separate from like our uh our school district right and our imperative here but i just want to share that to highlight that that that grant is uh comes with hundreds of thousands of dollars that 12 fellows from north central will be uh creating a community project and deciding like what does north central need how to how do we build power here right and again that is separate from our school district but north central is finally getting like the attention and the priority that it deserves right in multiple ways i personally don't see this addition in this change i'm and i'm actually i'm uh leaning strongly towards scenario one i don't see this addition to
058that area as an impediment to the power that's being built in north central i actually see it as a way to expand it and build power with the central community and the sunny bridge community which is another school that's in that area as well right um i also think that you know of course um this the this decision that we are making that we made previously that we also don't have to make tonight right we we could um think about it a little bit more maybe bring it back to the next meeting i think that's a possibility and okay diego's telling us that it is so my point is that i think that this scenario that this scenario one still does that and still priority prioritizes north central um but i but i but i
059totally respect ken like your your feelings around i think like what i'm hearing is that you're nervous that we're making that we would make a big mistake by changing the map and i i i've heard your reasons why i don't personally i don't want to say agree with them but like think that they're that that those changes mean that north central is not going to get what it needs um but those those are just kind of some other things that i i think about when i'm looking at these different options here um i don't know that i addressed everything you said i'm going to give people other other people space to to share but that's that's those are my thoughts at this point i'll just say that you know i was when out of the
060three of these i was kind of looking at scenario one also but um i have to recognize that i don't i don't live in san mateo and so if you ask me about any neighborhoods in foster city i could probably tell you um a bit more i'm i'm not i don't think i have the most experience in determining where um north central starts and ends and and how it mixes with this other neighborhood i i trust that trustee corzo because you're so connected to that um to the to san mateo into that neighborhood that you you understand what's going on here so um i'm open to either this map or bringing all the maps back next time and having a further discussion but i just wanted to lay that out there that i'm not a
061san mateo expert in that area but enjoy the conversation i'll just chime in as well i mean i um [Music] it sounds like that we might have be all leaning towards i mean i'm fine bringing it back as well but i also don't know that we need to if we already kind of have a majority in terms of moving forward with these so i wonder if we should move forward with with voting as it sounds like we may have some sort of consensus around this um again you know i too appreciate the discussion and i think it's the right discussion to have right these are the kinds of discussions that we want to have um all having the same goal and potentially just having different ways seeing how we get there a little bit differently
062um but so i would just propose that versus kind of prolonging this um if we were all over the map then i would say yeah but no pun intended um so is do we vote on this agenda item or the next one this one i mean i'm happy to make a motion unless somebody else i'm sorry go ahead superintendent show yes i just wanted to um provide that clarification so agenda item 7.1 refers to selecting the map and agenda item 7.2 is adopting the resolution for the map the board would select and it sounds like at this point in time there's some interest in tabling but there's also sounds like there's some interest in um finding the consensus so i'll turn it back over to the board for your deliberation i'm just gonna say i'm
063happy to make a motion unless other people have comments um trustee watkins if you're happy to make the motion i'm happy to second it um okay i am totally i think i think we've all talked about this a lot and i appreciate the comments that trustee corzo brings to the table um and you know i think she has a very valid point that you know by combining north central with central you know it's not diluting but it's rather um optimizing or magnifying that voice which i think is very important i also feel like we tend to forget about sunny bright um you know we all know about college park and and you know everything that goes on around that school but i don't ever really hear us talking about sunny break too much so it
064would be nice to kind of bring that into the north central conversation so i feel like by adopting you know again trusty map one twisting up two i like both um but i i just feel like that would be the right thing to do can i ask a question um just for you guys just in terms of clarification between one and two um the big difference is highlands i'd love to hear everybody's sort of opinions on that in verses one versus two i prefer one versus two because i think that like the sliver that's like fiesta the fiesta gardens neighborhood being separated from [Music] um i i don't know just that with sliver that like pokes out i think is i don't know it just doesn't appeal to me um and i think that fiesta
065has uh is more i feel like similar i don't know sorry might i don't know i'm going to stop there i'll let someone else speak i'll just make the comment that as we've all almost all of us have gone through different election cycles and different campaigns whether it's the bond measures or our own campaigns uh i look at it as a different on a different level about the super voters and those blocks as super voters and also historically where we have we had trustees from um highlands has always been historically represented here which is rightly so they should be um in area one you're pitting them up specifically against other super voting areas so like again when we go through the campaigns we all know through that analysis where the super super voters are who
066vote all the time and where we get campaigns if we went with i map two you actually are separating those super blocks out um so to me there's sort of some rationale on that level um the other level that i kind of like just in terms of since you guys don't seem to have thoughts on it yet um highlands the aryan highlands they feed into borrel middle school and so when you actually have them separate in a separate area that trustee has to actually if that trustee has in some ways shares two or is has two areas because some of those kids go to schools in another area [Music] in number one it's it's kind of all in one to bring everybody over there and there's not necessarily an overlap i think of when we
067do these maps it's not just the population and the areas and and everything it's you have to think about our enrollment maps and where everyone goes to school and so the thought is is that when you have these different trustee areas the idea is that what we're all really afraid of at the very beginning is making sure that each of these future trustees aren't just don't just have blinders on and only worry about their only little area right so theoretically just referencing the old map the um each trusty area has enrollment boundaries in other areas in other schools and so therefore that trustee would have to think about what happens in those other areas and would be an active participant up here at the board so to me i hear you on that little sliver
068there in terms of um the fiesta gardens area my concern is not necessarily with that it's more about highlands and that was part of my question of why you guys all thought one versus two specific beta highlands yeah i mean i hear your point i actually think i have a little bit of a different perspective um i mean i i do like for me the um yes i think i i do think that there's some similarity in kind of those three right highland baywood san mateo park um in terms of you know as you said kind of super voters also just just demographics um which i i think one argument is then that then you you know in the same way that you're kind of um putting together other areas with with somewhat similar demographics
069um there's the potential not to have over not over representation um because you know to your point right like if highlands then when you look at the other areas that are part of trustee five there's actually like quite a bit of diversity in that particular spread in terms of demographics um you have bay meadows you have um you know around hillsdale high you know there's just there's a there's a wide variety there um you have the potential not to allow for and then in that same map you also have fiesta as a part of baywood you have the potential not to have those that pop those areas have representation because you have these kind of super voter blocks that you never you know you you will have always have failed representation or hyland's representation and
070potentially never that fiesta representation or never the other part of area 5 representation so that would be a concern and kind of why i'm i would say is another favor that another reason why i favor that particular map i agree i think when i was looking at trustee sorry map number um number one i was kind of thinking that san mateo park baywood and highlands are kind of more similar than the other map when it splits um when it includes trusty area five and highlands so that was my thinking i also felt like i don't know that um in map number two that that fiesta gardens piece makes a whole lot of sense i almost thought like maybe that's just to make the numbers work it just it didn't make sense to me um but
071that was my i think so i'll just throw this out there um i i feel like you know we went through so many months just to get to the old map which is fine uh we went through all that stuff to get to that point there's still some sort of debate here in my mind about this um i would feel it it sort of does a disjust distresses injustice to actually vote on this map but at one time just here so i would like to make a motion to table this item bring it back next and just include the old map at least we then talked about it on two meetings um we yeah that's my emotion i'll make that motion um i will second that motion so that we can click on this oh
072sorry before you well before we vote can i say something um i think i i agree that we could bring it back next time and uh you know think on it a little more um i don't think we have to vote on it now and it feels rushed if it feels rushed um actually i don't know i'm kind of like i'm a little torn about it um i wonder is there can we decide on these three if we have one so then we would only have to compare two next time um and actually diego if you could clarify if there's the possibility to maybe make some slight changes um because like i said i like scenario one the most but i'm also realizing that you know part of that fiat part of the sunny brae
073community are are the houses like directly in the neighborhood across the street from sunny brae and there and then it's like commercial area right mechanic places a nursery the post office for example i think it would make sense to keep that part of the i wonder like can we like just add that part to area four um i don't know what it'll do to the rest of the map i'm wondering if like we can like the variance would be okay um if we did something like that um the process the process for considering maps is similar to the process we went through in june july and august where if the border calls we had four initial maps that the board requested very a variety of changes for a number of different reasons and what we
074do is bring those maps back it's really up to the board to have a preference for one or another so we would still agendize them and include them as part of our recommendation to the board so if the board were to vote tonight to bring this item back on february 24th then the board would see the originally adopted map 209 scenario one scenario two scenario three and then at the board's direction i would consult with our demographer to um request additional maps as the board might see fit with the caveat that they do have to comply with the percentages and with the cvra and we could reach out to our demographer and request that that be provided to us in time for next for the february 24th regular meeting of the board i think if
075folks are interested in making adjustments that would be a reason to bring them back but i think if folks are not i would still be in favor of kind of moving forward i understand your point trusty chen but i also know that when we did when these engagements happen there was very very little community engagement around it and so if there was something we were planning to do to get community feedback engagement or if the board was really felt like we were not ready to make a decision i would say that would be a reason to postpone it but just just to sit on it doesn't to me make a whole lot of sense um so i i would if we want to make changes obviously that's a reason to bring them back so trustee
076corzo if you you know really want that change made then i'd be in favor of bringing it back um if there was a plan for community outreach or if people really felt conflicted like they needed the time i would be in favor of bringing it back but if neither of those things are true then i would like us to move forward with uh voting on one tonight so would we like to see would you like to see another map sequoia okay so then we have a motion we have a second um very trusted core did you say yes you would like to see another map wait we should i answer that or are we voting i'm confused i can't vote until i know the answer to your question to that question i think procedurally there's
077uh there's a call for a vote but if there's still discussion before the vote we can have that discussion um so i'm open to i would completely agree when i look at these maps like it does not make sense to have delaware the divine line and sunnybray being right there and the houses directly across the street from sunday break it just doesn't make sense at all um i just um so i'm open to revisions of the map [Music] i can amend my motion and i'll amend the motion to to [Music] continue this item with minor modifications to the maps and with the addition of the the original map to the next meeting february 24th so i'll officially amend my motion for that do i need to second that again have a second let's do a
078roll call vote trustee warren no trustee watkins yes trusty porzo sorry i'm hesitating because i'm i don't want to say i'm confused i am confused i'm just going to be honest about being confused um i want to understand the motion a little better sure the motion is to come back with these three maps with minor modifications that we haven't determined yet yeah okay and and with the grand [Music] map to the next meeting okay yes and trusty chen alpha yes as well and i will also vote yes we will bring this back next time before we close out can i just say i know that we can obviously give superintendent direction individually but i also feel like it's to our benefit to see if there's some consensus around the slight change that i made and
079if there's any other slight change that is uh concerning anyone or or uh just yeah just i i would agree i think that just moving that line from south delaware over to claremont will actually maybe make it the train tracks because it includes industrial but um then there's a natural barrier between that area so my thought would be to move it to the train tracks and then also the only other modification that i would make is to remove that area over at lakeshore park that's on the east side of 101 and include that back into the area with whatever trustee or it may be number five that includes bay meadows and make the actual divine line um highway 101. and my rationale for that is that there's probably only like maybe a hundred to 200
080maybe 100 single-family homes there and so the deviation is not going to be that great but when you think about campaigning and you think about how we're going to get people that's sort of like a lost area there and it just makes more sense that those those residents be part of the entire lakeshore area that makes sense to me um i i don't know if our our democrat our demographer probably i don't know if he's with us still at this point um okay um i think if we can keep the variances low still uh i'm for that um i am concerned though like moving the line i just wonder why like for an area number four having the dividing line be south el camino i'm just wondering like i think there actually are oh no
081you said the train tracks sorry you said this okay yeah okay never mind i'm good okay um it sounds like we are good on 7.1 so 7.2 was the resolution so my recommendation to the board is that uh one of our members of the board would make a motion to table this item until our subsequent regular board meeting so moved second thank you trustee chin for the motion and trustee corzo for the second we'll call vote trustee warren yes trustee watkins yes trustee corzo yes trustee chen yes and i also wrote yes okay um moving on to item 7.3 adopt strategic plan goals 2022-2027 all right tonight's item is in reference to a process that began in august of 2021 um we've talked a lot about tonight over the last um seven months it's been
082something that we have looked forward to um it's the end of something and the beginning of something else so i want to take you through that process diego perez our communications coordinator now that the board has approved the consent agenda this evening and congratulations for that vehicle and i worked on this strategic plan uh imaging uh the messaging that you see this evening that i'm projecting for the public as you know our motto in the district is live lead learn and this is the messages you're seeing on these pages are actually quotes that members of the strategic plan committee gave us when our consultant and i told the group you have six words to say something to these children what would you say to the children in san mateo foster city school district and one
083of the comments was you belong here so we connected that to the theme of live which is one of our three themes on our district logo on our district information lead one of the comments from our strategic plan committee members was education can open doors for you and by the way these are actually san mateo foster city school district students these are not stock photos from google so really proud of our students stepping in for that and then learn another quote from our team was stay curious and ask questions so what is in included in this strategic plan presentation this evening is essentially the messaging around our building blocks which was included in the district's presentation to the members of the board in october and november and it's visually represented here as the board is
084aware on february 1st we held a special school board meeting where our five elected school board members in conjunction with our consultant sepi yo from the master's in governance program at california school boards association sat together and talked about goals we discussed a goal about equity we discussed a goal about achievement we discussed a goal about social emotional wellness and the idea of building blocks is that these building blocks are the actual structure for attaining these goals for developing the goal language so if we choose to aim at the goal of having all of our students achieve grade level mastery i would challenge you as a school board member to think about how we could accomplish that goal without engaging our families and communities how we would achieve improved academic outcomes for students without training
085staff so the goal is not to train staff the goal is academic achievement but the building block is professional development so with this spirit um the remaining building blocks are data informed decision making shared leadership and responsible fiscal support the board put together goal language at our last special board meeting and in the description of tonight's item i put the gold language into two categories there seemed to be very strong support for two goals and there was a third goal where we actually paused at that february first school board special scoreboard meeting and said um i think we said we need just a little bit more time to think this through and maybe and maybe reconsider when we all meet i think the feedback from the board was generally we feel like we're in the
086right area but we want to think more about the exact wording and so what we have this evening for the board is goal number one ensure learning and achievement for all capitalized pre-k through 8 students resulting in closing the achievement gap and culminating in personal and academic success in high school and beyond our remaining two goals goals two and three are reduced and equitable outcomes for all students again capitalizing all and staff by prioritizing equity access and inclusion that particular goal had quite a bit of support from the board in our last session and goal three provide a safe caring nurturing and culturally responsive environment for all students to meet the needs of the whole child again that item had stronger support than our goal number one so what i would do at this point
087in time is direct the board for any questions or clarifications you might have and invite the public to ask any clarifying questions and then i want to turn it back over to the school board for your deliberation and in this evening i am recommending that we adopt the final go language you all discuss this evening and land upon moving forward with our strategic plan and with that i'm hoping for any questions thank you are there any clarifying questions on the board um can you please just restate one more time superintendent ochoa the priority that you've got the feedback that you got in terms of the priorities of the goals does that make sense um the feedback for goal one the feedback for all three goals you you said like i think goal three was more
088popular than go like i just want to understand the yes so at our february first school board meeting or special school board meeting we spent quite a bit of time deliberating the language pertaining to equity that goal itself my understanding from the board was that generally our five school board members were in strong support of the language around that goal the second goal that the board was strongly in support of was the goal pertaining to the social emotional wellness of our students the goal that had the least support from just sort of re-watching the meeting the note-taking that we took from the meeting was goal number one the academic achievement goal i think can i i don't want to quote you exactly but you you said in that meeting something like i think we need
089to have a pause or i think we need to break on this topic and we you know we were getting close to 8 p.m also so we had been at it for four hours um my recommendation to the board tonight is to talk through certainly goal one and if interested continue to talk through goal two and goal 3 and make a recommendation to approve the goals this evening after you've deliberated and discussed the kind of language you want to see in the goals any other questions um thank you superintendent just to clarify then goal number one is the exact one that we left it at on that night okay thank you call for questions okay diego would you mind checking with the zoom audience to see if there's any public comments there are any members
090in the audience that would like to make a public comment please press the raise your hand functionality and i will call upon you and the order of the hands raised president procter we have no hands okay let's open up her board comments i'll just start off just because uh superintendent ochoa had mentioned uh me earlier um at the end of the meeting that night i i personally felt like the school could be strengthened like if there was and and uh trustee warren we were talking about sort of action words at the beginning and everything else this one has ensure at the beginning the other one is reduced the other ones provide um i felt at the end of the meeting that that we could sort of strengthen this in some way and i didn't have
091the words for it i did like the addition of the pre-k through eighth because again i don't think that um i think pre-k always tends to be forgotten people think that we're just a k through eight but we do have pre-k and i think that's important to know especially considering universal pre-k that's coming um towards us um i liked having the end at like the high school and beyond because again we are up into eighth grade and we're not a unified district that goes to um to 12th grade and and so people would think about college so i like that idea um my initial thought is just like whether it's the first word or whether it's the conversation about the achievement gap i just felt like when we talk about student achievement it just could
092be strengthened a little bit and i just don't have the words at the moment for it um but i think that's where i left it that night and i still slightly have those feelings at the moment what about saying something like create learning and achievement opportunities for all students resulting in closing the achievement gap and culminating in personal and academic success in high school and beyond that way we get the um more action-oriented word the part about pre-k through eight i hear what you're saying trusty chen and i 100 agree with you that i think we tend to forget about our early childhood education opportunities that we offer our communities i'm just thinking if we're thinking in terms of a broad goal um i'm just wondering if that can be addressed through the interventions and
093um and like the the actions that we do underneath that so i mean that would just be my only consideration can you say one more time sure create learning and achievement opportunities for all students resulting in closing the achievement gap and culminating in personal and academic success in high school and beyond now i'll just agree that i do think that actually by removing it it actually makes it a little bit simpler and to think about how these are goals and then there's actions below it so i mean i'm honestly fine with that to make it cleaner it's just that i always again think that pre-k sometimes is forgotten about so um if that's the amendment um i mean i i am okay with that i just this might take sense um i was fine with
094the way the goal was written um i'll just say that i think that to me when i read it i think like yes that's what we that's what we should do and so um i'm okay with it with changing the wording a bit but i don't have a problem with the way it's written right now i feel the same way um i think my question would really be um do becau because where this really matters is kind of i mean the goal matters of course but also in terms of implementation and what's actually how this gets translated so do district does you know super net in ochoa district staff feel like this gives you a good you know starting place for being really clear about what what where we're going and if so then i
095i also feel fine i i like the idea of adding i'm sorry doing some water um i like the the idea of switching out one of the achievement words for opportunity i'm not like set on which one but like ensure learning and opportunities for all students or all pre-k through 8th grade students resulting in closing the achievement gap or closing the upper i don't know yeah just throwing that out there okay it sounds like we're not really like settled on something specific um on this goal but i think the general idea so do you mind um responding to trustee watson's question about what you need i can do that yeah um this is where i would be itching to be a board member so i can go on and on and talk for 20 minutes
096and tell everybody everything i think i think what trustee corzo points out and trustee warren pointed out is there's something that doesn't fit perfectly well when a goal has the same word twice on opposite ends so i think the way you stated it trustee corza you you actually put it in both places so it could be ensure learning opportunities for all pre-k through eighth students resulting in closing the achievement gap and culminating in personal and academic success in high school beyond or it can be ensure learning and achievement for all pre-k through a students resulting in closing the opportunity gap and culminating in personal if my perspective is that it works both ways what this goal is fundamentally about is it's about our mission as um as those responsible for giving these these children a
097key to open up their future and i think the step that the board took in our last session to acknowledge that there is a gap that exists is a very important step that many school districts don't take many school districts leave that out but it created this sort of um onomatopoeia where we have the same word twice in the same phrase um in terms of the work that you know because i want to situate this conversation that you all are having into what's going to happen next so my recommendation is that the board adopt goal language tonight and direct me to reconvene members of our strategic plan committee into sub-committees who will help me create five-year plans associated to each one of these goals that work's going to take a long time and those 60
098days are going to have a huge impact on the next five years in education in san mateo foster city if the board were to insert the word opportunity in either place the goal language remains fundamentally the same it's about how you phrase the opportunity and the achievement um so i'll i'll say it that way in that um the word that trustee warren used at the outset which was create i think is also um an interesting word because it does have more it is more assertive it is more direct um and then on trustee corzo's commentary inserting the word opportunity in either the first instance of achievement or the second um as an as your your um chief executive sitting on this in this conversation it would work in both scenarios if you ask me which
099i prefer i would prefer it at the beginning ensure learning opportunities or create learning opportunities um but you all have some more to talk about and hopefully vote on tonight okay so i hearing your feedback i propose create learning opportunities for all pre-k through 8th grade students resulting in closing the achievement gap etc sorry can you repeat that one more time please question are you messing with me i'm just kidding okay create learning opportunities for all pre-k through eight students resulting in closing the achievement gap and culminating in personal and academic success in high school and beyond i actually really like this because it's again it's not a passive uh statement it's like i think recognizing the reality that not all of our kids have the same learning opportunities right now and that is something
100that we have to create and that it has to be tied to a result that is measurable etcetera etcetera uh i like i like the word create i do um but can i just throw it out there since we are in the wordsmithing which i always hate doing but we're doing it anyways right now um my thing has always been sort of about the achievement gap so my initial thought would be to include your language but also change it up which is actually say close the achievement gap for all pre-k through students by creating learning opportunities culminating in personal and academic success uh success in high school and beyond i'm good either one i don't know how everybody else feels we don't have our jamboard here too i know but i do gotta say i
101kind of like some i like starting with create because it's like more inspiring than like clo you know okay all right i got you i got you i'm opening i'm okay with the create learning opportunities one i like that and we do have a recording of this meeting so myself and tatiana and diego perez will be able to take the comment that the specific language which is create learning opportunities for all pre-k through a students resulting in closing the achievement gap and culminating in personal academic success in high school and beyond and so my recommendation to the board at this point in time is to if somebody is so inclined to make a motion to approve these three goals unless someone in the group would like to further discuss goal 1 goal 2 or goal
1023. i will make the motion unless anyone else has anything else they want to dig into you sure okay i'll second the motion okay so thank you trustee corzo for the motion and trusty chin for the second we will go to roll call trusty warren yes trusty watkins trustee corzo yes trusty chen yes and i will also vote yes okay before we go to the next item would everybody be all right with a little break maybe five minutes to just stretch okay we will do that we'll be back at uh-oh it's an odd number thirty-one okay okay we're gonna go into seven i forgot about the recording thank you it's um item 7.4 2022 ballot for csva delegates assembly thank you uh board president proctor this item is in reference to the csba delegate assembly
103um you might recognize one of the four names that is on this ballot as a school board you all have the authority to submit a ballot in which you indicate your support for up to three delegates for your given region and so this evening attached to this this agenda item is the ballot itself and then the biographical sketch for the four potential candidates i think given trustee corzo that you are one of the um candidates i don't feel that you should vote for yourself or otherwise uh you know get too involved in this but uh for those on the board um this is a softball one guys so this is one where you're able to just vote for one or you're able to actually vote for uh others as well so uh up to three
104and uh with that i'll turn it over to uh board president proctor um any members of the public for questions or for questions from the board okay thank you do we have any clarifying questions from the board i have one it's not about me i promise i noticed that one of the candidates didn't actually have uh like her biographical info there so i just wanted to note that okay uh we can move on to public comments diego if any members in the audience would like to have a public comment please press the raise your hand functionality on zoom and i will call you according to the order we received it president proctor we have no hands okay um board comments anyone i'll make a motion if we're ready for that i'll make a motion to
105uh vote for um what's the exact word here vote for the delegate assembly members and nominate or vote specifically for trustee corso i know sorry i know yeah thank you sorry okay thank you trusty chin for the motion and trusty watkins for the second we will go to roll club trusty warren yes trustee watkins yes trustee corzo collapsing okay trusty chin yes and i will vote yes as well so that's four yeses and one abstention thank you congrats appreciate y'all okay moving on to item 7.5 communications plan update good evening board members superintendent ochoa and members of the public my name is diego perez i am the coordinator of communications and community services for the san mateo foster city school district and i will be presenting to you all with the district communications update go
106ahead and share my screen so in tonight's agenda we're going to be looking at our current digital communications channels the data behind it and the strategies implemented since we began our digital communications revamp for the district the next steps would be our new website the implementation of parent square and from the communications committee the inaugural district partners celebration to get a quick overview of our digital communications channels we currently utilize our website social media newsletters and podcasts as well as our partner organizations to look at our social media demographics i'd like to just showcase the overall audience that we have on our current social media platforms with facebook having the most of our audience and utilizing other social media channels in a more strategic approach to their corresponding social media handles as well to look
107at a deeper data for our smf csd website i wanted to showcase the board within a three year span noting that in 2019 and in 2020 we were all full remote and beginning in 2021 we had a hybrid or in-person approach and uh showcasing the exponential growth of ensuring that our online communication especially on our website is consistent and up to date to ensure that we meet the the needs of our new visits being 75.7 percent of new visits as well as our 24.3 percent of returning visits we've also initiated the monthly district newsletters which encapsulates district departmental updates and it's a collaboration approach from the different departments in the district we have um here the examples of our open rates as well as the click rates and with that i wanted to showcase the
108highest click rates of the specific topics within each newsletter so fall camps was in september given that we had some camps going on in october covet cases reports for both october november and then in december we have the kovit testing calendar and of course returning in january we began our initiation of the math pathways parent night so we shifted into a more academic approach as to what our families were engaging with on our district newsletter we initiated a new communications channel being more audio which is our podcast and we reached our 3000 podcast downloads as of january 31st uh in that case we do have two podcasting channels currently english and spanish with the variety of various podcasting platforms that families can subscribe as well in terms of our partner organizations we initiated this partnership
109with nietzsche in october which is an online platform that allows for uh various prospective families to come view the san mateo foster city school district and its corresponding schools at the same time we also have the ability to receive reviews and feedback from our parents and our teachers and as well as students that have attended our our district and in this profile we do have 2 700 views and within those 2 700 views we do have an in-state traffic of 76 percent and that is a traffic of 18 from texas and an international traffic of 6 from japan and within this profile we wanted to strategize to ensure that when they are looking at our niche profile that we bring them back to our website so we do have links to our podcasts our website
110our covet updates as well as social media channels being outlined which again tie back to the data that you previously saw in terms of the engagement we're getting with our online media channels some of the strategies are ensuring that we are media oriented it's layered and it's data driven so of course in the beginning of my uh position as a communications specialist i was already tracking the data from our social media approaches as i started and to showcase a more specific example i'm going to utilize the example of fiesta de obsiones which is our first in way of approaching our enrollment process for the 2022-2023 school year it starts off by planning all of our communication vehicles and it starts essentially at our website which is the main hub that we want our families and
111prospective families to be able to engage us in from there we do directly communicate to our families then we highlight our district newsletter we then in this case also did a different approach to targeted mass mailers where we were able to send a flyer directly to the north central san mateo families that received a flyer as an invitation as well as a qr code to also track the engagement of those families that received this mailing flyer in addition we did have social media campaigning highlighting our magnet schools on our social media platforms and also invited our um school fiesta deltiones director janet to our podcast highlighting her magnet school as well as our enrollment coordinator stephanie gibson to ensure that we do have more information about the transferring and registration process and then another reminder
112directly to families as well and the next steps is to elevate our current communications tools so given our current cms website we do want to approach it in a more dynamic and and a robust method of of informing our prospective and our current families in a more structured approach so we're looking at final site as our cms transition and for our mass communication to families we are utilizing school messenger we want to streamline the process by bringing forth parent square and i'll talk more about these two in just a brief second so for final site we're looking for an implementation in march for the onboarding process from there from march up to july we're going to be doing the kickoff the design the production the q a testing and within that aspect we'll be ensuring
113that our webmasters also get trained during the five-week curriculum process that final site uh provides us and from there becoming a regularly monthly scheduled meetings to ensure that everyone's ready to go once we do the launch for july 2022 2023 school year moving forward for parent square again we want to streamline the mass communication process so if you haven't heard of parent square it is an app it's also an online application that you can also sign on and it provides mass notifications it provides classroom communications and school services and uh again there are a variety of ways that we can utilize this tool for both site administrators teachers and the district office because it comes with the docusign aspect so if we're looking at outdoor red signing if we're looking for parent signatures that that
114could all be done with the click of a button and it meets them where they are in terms of their classroom communication so in terms of conferencing with uh with teachers and parents communicating back and forth in their native language of course so we're able to also have that dialogue between teachers and parents in in the app of course and each corresponding user so for example we have a parent that goes to baywood they would get updates from baywood and from the district so the corresponding school as well as the entirety of the district so we are uh in collaboration with technology creating resource center for staff and families to access and further um resources available if needed on in-person trainings of course we're looking to call them technology nights further information to staff and
115families will be coming in april and the full launch for this as well will be for the next academic school year now briefly talking about the communications committee um president alison proctor was with us this past meeting and we started to plan our inaugural district partners celebration where we're going to be inviting our smf csd partners to award them in designated categories to showcase their efforts and their partnership with the district and again ensuring that that camaraderie is built through not only with us and our partners but with our partners as a hub and bringing us all together to know the kind of connections we can make and how we can strengthen our community from our collaboration and work with our district partners as well and that brings me to the end of our communications
116update thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to present this to you all this night thank you diego are there any clarifying questions from the board i actually do have a couple things to go for sharing it's super helpful to see the data around kind of usage and metrics i did have a question though um do we have goals for for usage and metrics right so like i don't have a good sense as to is this good is this not good like where does this fall in the grand scheme so i'm just curious if we have goals for what visits look like and clicks look like and if we don't can we have some and if we do can we um [Music] include that in future presentations definitely uh this is a an
117update that was meant to encapsulate our current work that we have been doing um i want to reference with the past social media analytics and there hasn't been much for me to engage with from previous analytics given that some of our social media challenge channels only go as far back as three months but this is definitely serving us as a benchmark for the next communications update to be able to tie back to what i presented you all today and to see how those numbers fluctuate the goal is of course to ensure that we engage with as much as families via online and um in person as well with the with the community events so this is a a great starting point for us to be able to sense those goals to ensure that we do
118get these numbers up in a variety of ways okay thank you um and then my other question is around the programs that we're planning to use in terms of the website and just mass communication um it's helpful to hear kind of sharing what each of the programs offers i guess i'm just curious a little bit about um were other pro why these two specifically or other programs considered where did these come from like i would be helpful to have a little bit more context on that um if you're able to provide that piece definitely we did um in october i went through a series of various um what is it vendor proposals uh there were a list of five we narrowed it down to two and in terms of what we're looking for with the
119types of communication strategies we have been doing and are going to be doing moving forward final site best aligned with our dynamic approach to having a website that is able to update in a variety of ways and encapsulate the dynamic of embedding for example the social media highlights the the podcast directly to our website and ensuring that we also restructure how our current website is currently being displayed to the public we want to make it more seamless for users to be able to enter and utilize it for their needs of course and in regards to the mass communications tools there have been a lot of back-end technical difficulties in terms of some site being able to communicate to their families directly given the the covet updates and because some of the data gets transferred from
120one hub being aries to school messenger there's a lot of data that unfortunately doesn't get transferred seamlessly in this case the parent square is directly integrated with aries communication are our students information system so in terms of ensuring that we are communicating to the families effectively in a specific manner it's already already already embedded into the system so there's no data transfer and we can pull for example kids that utilize the buses kids that don't utilize the buses and effectively communicate to those families as well and trustee watkins and members of the board if i can add on um the research into the various options that are out there because there certainly are many options that are out there actually dates back to november of 2021 our communications committee which is comprised at the time
121board president at the time chin served on our comms committee along with myself stephanie gibson amanda gaul amy snow marcel mccollum diego perez myself and a few others who dale rogers who um they're all their names will come to me in a second here um to really just get into the research that diego was presenting to the group i think it's fair to say diego that the idea that the website would be you've used the word dynamic i would say easy to access on a phone in other words when you go to the final site uh driven websites on your phone even a small phone i i don't have one of these big you know i have a smaller iphone um it's really easy to see it automatically resizes you're not doing any pinching and
122dragging or moving and our current website doesn't operate that way so it drives down user visits and the length of user visits because it's not easy to navigate so i think when diego describes it as being dynamic one of the sort of implicit things about having a dynamic website is having a website that a person who only has a phone can use or a person who has an ipad can use or a person with a desktop or laptop computer can also use and then the other thing is the ease of updating from staff our current website is beyond the doubt the hardest to update and change website i have ever been associated with in 23 years and it is it is so technically difficult to make a change and to have that change populate and
123be live in a way that it really even i would consider myself somebody who loves to use technology and loves to do that kind of work it really is a huge barrier to getting that work done whereas i think with a final site driven site that particular updating is much more accessible to the casual technology user in terms of current districts locally and regionally that use this diego perez and i went over this just the other day but palo alto unified um redwood city redwood city school district just moved to it um we have fremont fremont union high school district which is down in uh in the san jose areas and and the list is growing um and these these numbers do change you know districts do shift from different websites but i just wanted
124to add that context just to clarify one piece um so you're saying that the communications committee was a part of this process which was really kind of my question was just around who was who which stakeholders were kind of included and it sounds like the committee was yes okay great any other questions what one question so would apparent square is that what it's called parent square replace let's say like oh my gosh you're in middle school school loop it would replace school loop yes if i can add one clarification though so i think i want to make sure we're clear on a couple of things we're currently using school loop and aries in a sort of in a i think can you describe this as like you get an email every day that tells you
125if there's an assignment missing parent square isn't going to replace that what parent square is going to replace is it's going to replace the emailing that comes through school messenger it's going to replace the varied communication strategies that we don't have a district-wide system right now for teachers to be able to send easy communications to their students so at some schools class dojo is in effect that other schools remind is in effect that other schools because we lack a district-wide system to effectively using a cell phone communicate with families we probably have 15 different communication vehicles out there right now this will facilitate it coming from one place now the school loop agreement is one that our parents like a great deal because it gives you those daily updates about new assignments that are posted
126and you know having spoken to a lot of parents this year they really like being able to say to their 13 year old i know you're missing a math assignment we need to do it this evening before because i emailed your teacher about it so i think that component would stay in place got it thank you just one brief comment before my question i love school loop in that daily email about the grades in the report card so um my question is similar to trustee corzo about parent square uh from previous iterations of being on the communications committee yes different schools have different programs the class dojo was looked at there's um whatever the other ones remind um some people used to use shutterfly i mean the variety of different communication styles at each of
127the different schools was very diverse and somewhat ineffective when you're looking at the whole community like it might just work just for that one classroom but maybe not for the entire school communications to the parents and so i'm it sounds like parent square is going to solve that at least maybe at the elementary level and maybe i mean school loop i would say is pretty effective at the middle school um level my question is how's the rollout you you have here that it's rolling out 22 23 a school year um considering that everyone is already into these communications like the classrooms already may be used in class dojo or school are there different aspects of the implementation or the rollout um how i mean i'm just kind of curious is it you know if you
128could describe that please yeah so in terms of the rollout we are looking to ensure that we have an approach of ensuring that the site school leaders are aware of the shift of technologies and they are able to get up to date and up to speed with the actual technology itself and then from there be able to ensure that the teachers get the full less or the aas and teachers and then from there district wide will be able to host various technological seminars as mentioned in the presentation we do have in collaboration with the technology department looking to create a resource hub and in addition provide more support if needed both of these two programs do offer trainings as well within them live chains that they can also be able to access at their convenience
129but in addition also to ensure that parents are aware of the shift and they know how to utilize the the actual application and in the process of getting the updates and having that dialogue with their teachers when using the functions on parent square thank you and and is this like a full like sort of hard roll out so like in the school year 23 24 everyone should be on this or is there some flexibility because that to be honest that was the debate within the communications committee a couple years ago uh about the hard stance the district was sort of taking on whether we use one program versus the other when let's just say one teacher was using a program for years and as you know really enjoyed it or or what i'm just i'm
130curious or is this like yeah can you talk about like the the actual adoption sort of of it yeah um i believe diego troy recently mentioned about the district-wide communication system again that to your point in terms of what some teachers are already utilizing um we want to give them ample enough time to learn about this different technology to see if it's just them as well which is why the information april will help better provide their approach to how they would utilize this in their setting and see how we can provide as a district more uh resources and on that feasible shift to the to the to the transition to the new app thank you i just had a question out of curiosity um on the website views i guess or visits um like august
131was so much higher than previous years what like is that just return to school covet stuff or okay because i'm just thinking about the website and like who are the users who's visiting the website are they people because when now my kids are in school i don't really go to the school websites much and so if the if the viewers are if you can tell i guess if they're um current families or prospective families or and one of the things that we can do board president proctor is actually take um moments throughout this year and identify uh weeks spans and two-week spans where we dive really deep into the data because uh the report that diego perez gave uh this evening shows that consistently there is increased engagement using our district website the question you're
132asking is the question diego and i spend quite a bit of time on this when we send a communication letting people know that there is a new if you recall september and october we were doing a lot having a lot of communication regarding hvac systems and air quality so how many clicks were there at the time we were holding youtube live streams and recording podcasts and sending monthly newsletters that routed found because that's what we want to see in diego's presentation that layering we brought it up here we brought it up here we brought it up here and the percentage went up so i think it would actually be sort of a really great thing for diego perez and i to work on for our next communications update to be able to go really deep
133into certain windows of time and give the board a like a magnifying glass to figure out what was it that was driving this and what layered strategies had an impact on it any other questions yeah i just have one just real quick i went to the parent square website and i see that they've got two packages standard versus premium it looks like the premium allows us to include health screening community groups and secured document um [Music] you know student-specific docs um for mass notification which package are we purchasing i actually have it in front of me um and the one you're speaking about yes the premium the one that has the the full docusign as well as the health screenings great thank you okay let's open it up for public comment please if any members
134in the public would like to provide public comment please press the raise your hand functionality and i will call you upon the order the raised hands were received president procter we have no raised hands okay let's begin for discussion i'm happy if someone else wants to go i'll go i'll go okay you do it you do it i can't go too go ahead i asked a question first so you can go personally i'll go next okay i just wanted to say thank you so much for the presentation i don't know that you understand how many years we've wanted to see this kind of information in this way and sharma made a lot of good questions about like you know uh you know goals and and uh more data but like i mean i don't know
135about you all but for me this is like i i just yeah you covered a lot i learned a lot about communication strategies and layers and um i'm really excited about it and i'm really excited about the docusign because it's sometimes so hard to get parents to sign things um and uh or to like push out information to everyone but most everyone has internet on their phone and so i'm excited about um how this is gonna be a tool not just to inform families but to empower them as well um yeah and you know more communication uh more effectively is super crucial and uh you you've been doing an amazing job from the very start so just expressing my gratitude and thank you for the presentation you did a great job for your first one
136thank you yes thanks so much for the presentation you know we've talked a lot about communications on the board and just the importance of the importance of effective communication in terms of keeping the lines of communication open with our families and community and often uh you know they're just being breakdown because of you know communication not being as strong as it can be so i'm glad that we're continuing to work on this and appreciate the data for sure um i just to kind of piggyback off of off of what i um was asking questions about i think it would be really helpful um to hear about some goals that you all have for usage in some of these places so that as we're adopting new things we can identify whether or not we're uh and
137whether we're moving in that direction and then and and kind of you know i'm interested to know what realistic goals are right like 100 percent while we would love probably not really something that we're aiming for right um maybe we are i don't know um but you know what what does that really look like in each of kind of these platforms um and then you know how are we faring and how are the different things that we're implementing supporting getting us there or not so that would be really helpful in the future um to have those goals and then yeah um i think i think that was that's that's the big thing for me so um and i'm you know it sounds like there's gonna be kind of some pilot is that accurate in terms
138of like the timeline and launching like there's going to be a little bit of kind of pilots um going on so you know just be interested to hear you know how that's going i feel like there's something else that i'm blinking i'll jump back in if i can think about it um thank you trusted soon we can rochambeau if you want anyway um jk um okay so thank you diego for this presentation i know you put a lot of work into all the communication effort that you do and um i just want you to know that it it doesn't go unnoticed and it's very much appreciated um as you gave such a thorough presentation um i love the idea of changing the website and updating that um anything to make it more user-friendly than what
139it currently is i think would be welcome i like the idea of being able to see it on multiple devices you know while i do have a laptop that i use regularly i'm more likely to be on my phone um and so that's where i'm going to see things mostly i like the idea of parent square and having the forms on it because i will i'm just going to be parent of the year right here and just let everybody know that i am the one who's like going oh crap i need to fill out my child's uh permission slip as we're like at school waiting for the bus to come for the field trip so i mean that's that's i'll admit my parental failing there but so any time where my child will not be
140excluded from a field trip due to his mother's inability to sign a form is greatly appreciated um and i like the idea that because when i looked parent square seems to have direct integration with aries we'll be able to get you know the report cards even before the kids can bring them home which i also really like i like the idea of just the district-wide communication i like that it can use text voice email multiple different ways of communicating with families it just seems like the right thing to do especially when we're looking at trying to maximize our ability to communicate with families so great job uh thank you diego um i will echo my fellow trustees uh on the compliments and gratitude uh i think you're doing a great job um i think it's
141very obvious in terms of not only your style but superintendent ochoa's communication style that it's it's definitely um moving us in the in the right direction uh we have whether it's youtube live or the podcast or the covet updates that you update all the time or the website um everything is sort of moving in the right direction in my opinion so i really appreciate that i definitely will echo what trustee corzo said i think there's this study or saying that you know don't ever ask someone who's under 30 to print something because they don't have a printer and so the fact is that if you have a docusign and as we're all mobile right the idea to actually have it on and it can sign right there is makes so much easier than printing something
142out signing it scanning and printing it back it's just so much in some way it's a new way of doing things i also would definitely agree with trustee welcomes about goals uh i the idea of how do we measure success how do we prove that we're actually doing it um again compared to other districts i know that our communications is way off the chart where people are you know contacting me and saying like how are you guys doing all that he said well you gotta have the right people here right um so i i definitely think that that is that's a huge win and huge plus for us um so i really appreciate that my one comment is something that um i'll just touch on superintendent ochoa and i've had please conversations about uh when
143you think about our communications and you think about the individual child you know one of the things and one of the measurements when we talk about progress is like how are we measuring how our children are growing through our schools and the idea is that it'd be great whether or not parents square or something that you know we'd all like to know like how well did our child do on this test or that is there a way for us to have maybe some sort of dashboard or something for our individual kids and see are they progressing to make sure we meet our goal of high school and beyond right the idea is like is there a way to sort of communicate in a different way not just through parent square or whatever else but the
144idea is like what's that metric how are we looking at how are we communicating and keeping track of our our kids and as they grow so um it's just a little tickler i think that um i'm curious to see how this all rolls out but i'm very grateful for um all your work and the communications committee's work too as well so um thank you diego and superintelli and the communications committee who's ever um still on thank you um i will just say agree with everybody that says stuff before i wanted to thank diego for all of your work i think you bring a really fresh first like perspective to our district in terms of communications i love like everything that gets sent out i love the look of it um i think things look friendly
145an elementary school district like but also they're clear and there's um they're very informative everything that goes out so i just want to thank you for that and um and i don't know am i crazy or did we recently update the websites i feel like that was not too long ago there were updates but there weren't like these whole scale updates that i believe were talking about so okay um yeah because i was thinking thank you um diego ochoa for explaining kind of some of the complications with the current website and um and why we need to upgrade or i guess redo it so um i'm looking forward to seeing what that looks like um also just continuing to like be curious about who does visit the websites and um what kind of information people
146are looking for and i know you can track the clicks and stuff but um just making sure that our websites are providing the information that people really need and are looking for um but i think tonight was a great presentation and thank you both diegos for such great communication this whole school year so far and i think we're on a great track so thank you are there any other comments we are now moving on to 8.1 measure x and measure t bond status report good evening madam president board members and superintendent ochoa tonight ms amy ruffo who is our director of facilities in construction is going to walk you through an update on measures x and t and before miss ruffo starts her presentation i just want to take the opportunity to thank our community
147for their tremendous support for these bond measures it's having a tremendous impact and going to have a tremendous impact in the near future on our environment for our students and staff and families so we're so grateful for their their support and i'm looking forward to miss being able to present to you and wanted to recognize her and her team for their uh incredible efforts i can just tell you my own uh perspective and having done this for my don't know my 24th year coming up we're on a very aggressive schedule to uh make impact to these environments for our students and staff as quickly as possible and so i wanted to thank amy and her team for all their efforts so if amy is on board if diego has amy move forward then she can
148walk you through the slides thank you let me share my screen let's see here i don't think you're seeing my screen yet so one second here we go all right good evening can you guys hear me okay yeah okay great thank you let me make sure we present a second all right okay good evening board president procter members of the board and superintendent ochoa my name is amy ruffo director of facilities and construction and tonight we'll present the status of both measure x and measure t projects it's a very exciting time as patrick said um in the construction department here multiple projects have been completed they're in design and in construction we've recently bid a few projects and they were both in um ended up in our anticipated budget uh those projects are going to
149be having some groundbreaking ceremonies in a few days and um we're working with diego perez and you'll be seeing those updates and being pushed out to you budgets will be continued to be updated as projects are bid and awarded and i'll also present on what assessments we've completed recently to get those design contracts in front of you in the next few months measure t we anticipate our next bond sale to be in the summer 2022 and the measure x which is our previous bond we anticipate that bond sale to be in the fall of 2022 as well one of the big projects we're focusing on in the measure x bond is the new school in north central and we'll give more updates in the following slides um and a project also from measure x we're
150still talking about is the abbott gym restoration um from some water intrusion we had in the fall we're anticipating that the floor remediation is going to be completed by the summer 2022. here are a few images of our multi-purpose rooms that we are working on um george hall will be doing our groundbreaking um in the next few weeks here's an image of sunny bray and also the leed and highlands multi-purpose rooms as well so for the measure x we have the foster city turf field and the george hall multi-purpose room we'll have ground breakings later on this month sunny brae and bowditch science and drama projects those will be coming out of dsa very soon and will be bidding the spring with a start this summer and the burrell shade structure is going to dsa
151shortly with construction starting the summer and completing in the fall the new school in north central we're in the planning stages and we're focusing on um different subgroups looking at both the facilities and the programs and we are looking at some alternate funding sources as well for community school grants measure t so we have the highlands leed meadow heights and parkside multi-purpose rooms those are all in design right now with anticipated dsa submission dates the spring and summer these projects have now morphed to include the paving and infrastructure that is needed for these sites as well as replacing their fields with synthetic turf these projects have as you can see their budgets are all a little bit different and that is because of each site has different soils conditions and different grading to be able
152to fit the new multi-purpose room in something that you hear in the news every day is about escalation and inflation and we're seeing this tenfold in all of our estimates so we're working very closely with design teams to keep everything on track and moving towards that we get all the scope that we've committed to the community to give hvac phase one those contracts have been awarded and we're going to be starting construction this spring going full swing this summer with completion in the fall the hvac phase 2 is in design within a dsa submittal this summer bidding in the fall construction next spring and summer the co2 sensors have been installed now at six sites vape to detectors are incomplete the water bottle fillers we've done the the first phase of them um and we're
153doing a second phase to focus on um more drinking fountains and bottle filling stations in eating areas the first portable laurel was placed last year with the second targeted for this spring boutique site rebuild so last summer you saw a master plan presentation to show how we are going to be adding a new gym with that is currently targeted to start construction this fall and winter and then we were going to be rebuilding most of the campus we're calling that the academic core and so we've been meeting with the school site council there and with um their their staff and so we'll be bringing that back for you in the next few months to show you an update of that master plan as i said earlier escalation um this project because it's over so many
154years escalation is a big factor and so we're really looking at this closely as we're looking at as you can see all the way through 2026 of how the effects of escalation have on our scope and budget very exciting we published the solar rfp and the the first phase of turf fields at five sites those are fees were published this week um with proposals due um in march uh the the phase two of turf fields will be going out later this year within targeted construction in 2023 flooring replacement over last summer and during the breaks we've replaced approximately 40 classrooms and a few restrooms flooring so what i really wanted to focus on today is as you can see there's a lot happening in both design and construction and then over the fall we did
155assessments of of flooring paving and infrastructure and also other underground utilities and restrooms and so now that we've assessed and we know the scope and some of the scope was bigger than we originally anticipated for example our our paving we went ahead and had that assessed overall out of 100 points we're at in the mid 50s and that's also with beach park bringing us high that's about 100 so as you know there's a lot of sites here that are with pretty low grades so we're looking at projects like paving but we're also doing uh solar projects so we want to be um putting things in the right order so the solar projects have to be completed first since we're trenching and cutting up um the paving at school sites we can then follow with infrastructure
156i mean when i say infrastructure underground utilities like storm lines and sewer lines and then follow with paving we want to make sure we're doing things in the correct sequence um so now we since we know our assessments um we've given that scope to the multi-purpose rooms we've given it to the outage teams and now we're ready to bring design contracts to you shortly um for all the other sites that we can then start paving once the solar is done the restroom scope we're grouping that into different categories so we can then talk about doing um like tk and kinder restrooms uh staff restrooms multiple student stalls we'll be able to bring that to you in different categories and start that design our goal is to bring these projects that are that we have assessed
157bring them into design so we can start construction as early as next year so that will be coming to you shortly and the way we've ordered this so everything under um turf fields phase one um those contracts you haven't seen yet for the design those will be coming shortly um so the bond was 409 million as you can see the project total is a little over that it's um at roughly 425 we do anticipate interest in that and then we will also be looking at state funding we have a consultant we're going to see what other eligibility we have there's developer fees and any other grants but how we're presenting to move forward is move forward with all the scope and if there's somewhere where we might come up against our ceiling of our budget
158is that we would start to scale the flooring project and stretch those dollars as far as we can to do the life cycle replacement and so we'll be back with you in a few months to show you the bowditch and then also our next scheduled presentation on the overall bond will be in may so if you have any questions please let me know thank you amy are there any clarifying questions from the board okay i'll go first um thank you amy for the presentation um just a couple of clarifying questions uh the bond the next measure t bond sales what's the amount for that for the summer 2022 we're anticipating probably another 100 million we'll just make sure as long as we're awarding everything that we're we're set to um it would be roughly 100
159million great thank you um so we would have then because we already issued 100 million for the first for the hvac so this will be the next 100 million great thank you um the next question i had was regarding dsa um dsa is often referred to as the black hole when we submit our projects because we are dependent our schedule is dependent upon dsa approval i'm wondering whether or not those projects that are in dsa approval have they have they basically been planned checked and reviewed in a timely fashion i'll put you in on the spot on that so right now it's running roughly about four months so the both the bowditch science and drama and sunny bray went in um in the fall so we've already got the back check comments back we're preparing
160so we um we're finding it being decent but there's a lot of people who had bonds approved the same time we are in this area going to the oakland office so we're doing our best to get things in as soon as we can but not um not too quickly where we were losing quality um but they are moving fast no thank you that that helps uh just my side comment is that actually four months is actually pretty decent so often you know it goes in there and that our costs go up and everything else but um the last question i had was related to um [Music] just to double check here the turf fields phase two so are we putting in sure fields at all these schools in now phase two that that would be
161the the rest there of the of the schools to go there thank you and final question um at bayside when we replace the turf fields can we just make sure we're in contact with uh ayso because um ayso does use our fields there and uh it would be great to actually let them know that we're gonna take out the fields and there's a schedule to it and um so that they're aware if they have to make changes please we've been in contact with the city um about the program so i'll also touch base with them the ayso thank you very much those are my questions thank you any other questions okay um let's move on to public comments please if any members in the audience would like to raise their hand to make a public
162comment press the raise your hand functionality and i'll call you in the order it is received president proctor we do have one hand i'm gonna okay let me just set the timer and i believe i invited to there it is go ahead randy my apologies can you hear me hi good evening so um so i found this um presentation to be really informative and i thank uh um ms rufo for uh the quality of that presentation um and you know the questions that i have are actually just more um more just kind of like a a high level view and speaking as a community member who's followed this process now for several years um and and just asking asking you to be honest with yourselves and ask yourselves some of these questions you know i
163attended the study session um that you guys had over the strategic plan and i heard trustee chin say that wow you know i want our school district to be the best and wow our our school district has great facilities but we're not the best at achievement and so congratulations you know you're really on the way you guys really have this down well as far as you know building except for oh what maybe happened at the abbott gym i'm not sure what happened and are we going to be on the hook for that you know and even being able to take care of our students health over 10 of our students have come down with covid this year you know by the way what's happened to all of our students we have 2500 fewer students today
164in our district going to our schools than we had two years ago why is that but hey we're gonna have solar panels i mean what are our priorities here really what are our priorities why didn't we address ventilation earlier you were begged for this i i think it's a crying shame our community has paid the price in terms of its health the school district now is paying the price in terms of buy-in from the students there is no way you'll be able to go back out for more bond money because people are losing faith just think about what you're doing thank you [Music] president proctor we have no other hands okay we will move on to board comments uh thank you thank you amy for the presentation um i had a couple of um hopes
165i guess for future presentations i actually ran into patrick when i was at the district office earlier so i've shared them with him but so the rest of the board and public are aware as well um it would be really helpful so i uh there's the budget column which for some of these is what we have budgeted based on the bond for some of them it's what it was actual because it's completed or it's um uh you know we have a contract awarded um it would be super helpful to differentiate that and basically have another column that's what was budgeted and what is the actual and then the difference um and i would really love that as well for the other major measure measure x projects um right because these while we divide them all
166up you know there's like this big pot of money um and it would be really helpful to know kind of where where we are um overall in terms of what has already been spent what's quote unquote left interest like all of those things so um you know because i think about you know something for example the north central school right like if things came under budget and we actually have some money left over right we as a board need to have a discussion about where that goes with the projects that are still here and so i think just having that kind of overarching big picture view kind of every time we revisit this will be really helpful um the other thing that i was thinking about that would be really helpful as you were talking
167about kind of you know so we have a pot of money that we get from bond then there's interest there's developer fees there's kind of all these other places we potentially draw from um i'm almost like envisioning some sort of like pie chart that kind of shows that for each of these right so like with measure x this was like the bad money this was the interest this is just so we know where everything's coming from for all of these um i think that that would be super helpful um i also just wanted to you know i think um i guess address the public comment a little bit i think um i remember joining the when when i guess trustee corzine i joined the board in 2017 and i remember the majority of our board
168meetings were spent talking about facilities and very little time was spent focused on student achievement and student outcomes um we don't have these conversations that much anymore you know when you think about what we talked about this meeting we predominantly talked about students our community our families and so um i i think in in the times you know and i remember i've shared this a bunch of times when trustee corzone i went to the csba conference and they talked about kind of the mark of a board that's really dedicated essentially to students and student outcomes and student achievement i think the breakdown is you spend 80 percent of your time talking about that and 20 percent of your time talking about the other things and i think we do that um i mean you know
169i'd be interested to we can all break through our meetings and and actually you know add all of that up but but i think when you kind of look at agenda items that we do that as a board and at the same time you know some of the things that are being addressed here um are both equity issues and you know as as was pointed out are health and safety issues right and so the things that we are talking about are the things that are really important so um i just wanted to highlight that because i don't necessarily think that's a 100 fair representation of kind of the work that's happening and i think that it is important to name that um and also i think as a board you know open to any sort
170of respectful feedback that we get around how to be better because i think that we're always hoping to do that in a way that's transparent and respectful and two-way so thanks again for the presentation and updates i will mention we do have new project management software so i will be able to show you in different charts of all that different funding we're in the process of loading the phase two of the previous bond and all the new projects and as well as closing out all the gyms and everything from the first phase so i'll be able to show you what funds are remaining exactly in more detail great thank you i was just going to say that um thank you for the presentation amy i one of my concerns and i think it's it was
171back when we did the facilities master plan and i still have that concern is that we had so many projects on the list and you can see that you know the the dollar amount on this list is greater than the amount of money that the bond is going to provide for us um my concern and i hope that we can continue to have conversations is that we don't like the first projects don't get fully like if we fully fund all of the first projects because they're the first ones to get done and then have to shortchange something at the end um i'm just worried about what that would be and what that would look like and um just because it's you know easier to or um faster to get certain projects done than others doesn't
172mean that we should necessarily um reduce the budget of those later projects so i hope that as we're narrowing in on this and narrowing in on the dollar amount and the interest and all the other funding sources that we can have some discussions about what what that looks like and how those decisions get made but otherwise you know i'm obviously very grateful to the to the voters that did pass these measures and i'm really proud of the work that's being done and um you know we want all of our schools to to look beautiful but also be safe and um be really good environments for our students and um you know we're on our way and doing the best that we can here with the funds that we have so thank you okay um thank
173you for the presentation um i really appreciate uh all of your hard work um it is great to see uh this uh all laid out there in uh in more of a simple format in terms of what's going on um i also do appreciate the uh start dates and the status and just to know um where everything sort of is on the on the project schedule so in the timeline uh i do think that i am when it comes to sort of the hvac i am actually very proud of us and and the district um before when trustee proctor and i were working on measure t uh during the facilities master plan we were already working on the plans for hvac before as if we knew we were going to get the funding from measure
174d so and that helped us i think we gained at least by six months or so because the facilities masterplan the hvac analysis was all done and so right as soon as measure t was approved we were almost all ready to issue the bonds and that's sort of contrary to what has been done in the past in terms of letting things languish i think when um trustee proctor and i went out to to campaign for the bond um there was all these comments about well you guys have proved something but then you never actually do anything with it right and here you actually see you actually see the work that's happening you see the stuff in fact if everything goes along according to plan knock on wood you know the majority or if not all
175of our measure t funds will be expended by the summer of 2026. i mean that's like lightning fast the facilities master plan is is called for what is it the tagline is facilities from the next decade or something like that so you think about it going all the way to 20 30 or so um i think this is great honestly i think you guys are doing a fantastic job i think that the you know overall with the money that's spent um is great i do think that i do like the idea that you have the interest in here too because the reality is that if even if you look at the slide before i'm sorry i was looking at the table of the measure t projects but the slide before and measure x we're paying
176for things that you know because of the interest as an example the turf field of foster city you know that's probably paid for by interest i'm assuming um and so there are other projects here shade structure or whatever it is you know that's you know so by some ways by not getting things done you actually gain more money but you know i'd rather actually have everything go forward as expediently as possible and so i really think that you guys are doing a great job there uh i can't wait when you look at the hvac upgrades you know the fact that it's going to be completed by the fall of this of 2022. i mean we have 21 schools you know it's not like we just flip a switch and say boom there it is right
177it's all done uh there's a lot of time that goes into it and you know like i mentioned before gsa sometimes you know prolongs things but it sounds like things are moving along and so i'm i'm i'm really happy honestly and i think you guys are doing a fantastic job i think you know as a district it's it's amazing what we have all done in terms of making sure that you know we are providing the health and safety uh safe environment for our kids and you can see that and the voters i absolutely appreciate all the voters for for giving us this ability to do it um yeah and con i mean yeah contrary to the public comments i actually think we're doing a fantastic job and spending the money appropriately you know one of
178the things is one of the problems with being a public public agency is that if you actually spend money too fast and too furious people are going to come at you and say are you really spending that money wisely are you really going through all those checks and balances and making sure those bids are all correct and then if you spend it too slowly feeling like well you're just like hanging on to it what are you guys actually doing not doing anything right but here we're actually shows that we're actually moving at a very quick pace and i just really appreciate all your hard work that you guys are doing so um so yeah thank you very much and i can't wait for our groundbreakings are going to happen later on um because this is
179all just really exciting stuff so thank you thank you i will be quick um again i i really appreciate this the information is super concise and like clear and it's i mean there's obviously a lot going on here um i wanted to just you know when we went to csba in december a big topic was teacher housing and exploring that and so i want to like put that on the table i think it's something that we need to explore i know we have some potential space we have a school that's not being used we have some changes maybe coming up that could create the opportunity to not just explore that option but collaborate with like our union high school district for example um to do like a mixed use um [Music] development uh i also
180just want to flag that like we're absolutely in a housing crisis to this day and that um many school districts are actually doing this in even in our county right so jefferson union high school just district is an example but i do believe from my understanding that there is interest from our union high school district and potentially collaborating and uh and exploring some kind of like teacher housing mixed use um not mixed use what commerce what is it i don't know i don't remember can help me out here more of like a multi-family or higher density or what do you like like higher density on top and then like oh mixed-use yeah okay so i use the correct term um yeah so i know that's not on here um but i do think that um
181there is an opportunity for that and if we have land maybe other people have other things to contribute um and it's something that was a really i mean it was at multiple sessions at csba and i cannot remember the name of one of the presenters that um was there but i do have some like physical uh like booklets and things that i'm happy to bring in and share but i do think that you know it's really not uncommon at this point especially here in the bay area for school districts to to look into that and using that also as a tool to attract and retain teachers so that we can interrupt some of the disruption wait interrupt so that we can address some of the disruption that we see in terms of pathways to like
182uh feeling hard to fill positions and uh i think it's potentially something that could really help us um do that so i want to lay it out there and i'm curious to know if other folks are in support of looking into that i'll just determine educator housing is part of the facilities master plan so if you actually go back to it we did actually include that as part of something that we would be interested in the new decade so um i'm definitely actually for it i think for all the reasons that you said uh it is something to sort of weigh along with the various projects that we have on our priority list but it's something that we should definitely uh keep track of what's happening uh with the jefferson unified and pacifica as they
183go through their process uh as well as um other districts around that have done it uh such as uh hello palato our community uh cemetery community college district has done a lot of it um but yeah and there was also a recent log that was changed that makes it easier for us to actually go forward with it so um i i am in favor of that if we ever want to um have that conversation me too i think i'd just like to bring us back a little bit and make my comment on um amy's presentation um i think just like the theme of the night is communication um i really feel like we got a clear communication here in terms of where our project statuses are um and yeah i mean i've walked some of
184these the pavement amy and i yeah there's a reason why i can't wear heels at any of our campuses well i don't wear heels very much anyways but so it's a disaster waiting to happen but when you add in um you know really bumpy concrete um it's a really big disaster waiting to happen um and so it's great that we've gotten that assessed and we know where we stand with that and we know um where we need to um create change and make it safer you know we talk about achievement you know we have to have safe safe campuses you know safely constructed campuses so that we can foster that achievement and foster that wellness and you know create you know you know if we're talking about creating learning opportunities we have to create the
185learning environment as well um and so just tying this all back to our new strategic plan um the public comment did bring up a pretty good question about the new gym um that got flooded and you know had to have the floor all ripped up um you know i know that it was asked like how much we're held responsible for and i i know i'm asking this kind of out of you know order but you know i am kind of curious about that you know it's i mean we went through this whole you know we we got the money for the gym i feel like the public you know we do owe some sort of an explanation to that to the public since we used bond bunny for it i'm happy to share some perspective
186with you miss warren and and the board we are going through a pretty elaborate process currently the um [Music] when the that the gym flooded we had people out there that day we had our insurance team out there as well and we're working hand-in-hand with our insurance folks to address that issue so under the umbrella of this is an insurance issue and all the resources that are available to the district we are partnering with those resources and with our insurance company to address uh the questions that uh that you have so we will keep you posted um uh we'll keep the we're keeping the community updated in terms of when we anticipate the floor to be replaced and and usable again we've talked to suppliers and contractors and we're ready to roll from that front
187but we also are working hand-in-hand with our insurance folks um regarding this particular issue and there's a lot of intricacies and complexities when we get into those types of situations so um so respectfully i i can work with superintendent ochoa to agenda that to apprise you and your colleagues of all the intricacies and complexities in the appropriate forum and also we did want to provide an update tonight to the community just with an anticipated restoration date without getting into any of those intricacies and complexities associated with the insurance side of things so so hopefully it answers your questions succinctly and respectfully and patrick i think um you know i want to take this opportunity to say the work that started um after we had that flood um at the facility um was immediate so your
188department and our council has been in contact with our insurers as well as the design team as well as the construction team we have a lot of reason to believe that we're in a strong position but there's so much more that goes into making a formal presentation to the board about it in terms of having certainty and clarity and having appropriate timing line up with making that presentation so one route after we had the flood at the abbott gym was to initiate let's start to get this fixed and that has its own process which is let's get into the facility let's get that floor up let's start working to actually rectify the facility and the separate processes let's work on the insurance side um in terms of protecting the district's position and i would say
189just to echo your comments patrick just to be able to agendize this for a future meeting and to be able to bring a comprehensive report to the board yeah i'm fine with that that's i just feel like you know especially since we've um you know this is being funded by the public through the bonds um that we need to have some sort of a discussion around it at some point in the future so i appreciate you taking the time to answer my question absolutely are there any other comments on this item okay we will move on to item 9.1 district calendars for 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 good evening board president proctor board members superintendent ochoa members of the public um presented for your consideration this evening are calendars for the 2022 and 23 school year as
190well as a second calendar for the 2023 and 2024 school year um the calendar school calendar is a negotiable item and so the district met with this media bargaining team to develop calendars and some of the things that we took into consideration are things such as for example we have families who have students in both our district as well as the high school district so we made an effort to try and align start dates um try and align winter breaks and spring breaks the district had done a survey with families prior to the kobe pandemic and that was one of the things that had come up we also considered you know the fact that we've offered a large summer school program and we have many of our staff members who teach in that summer school
191program and so we also wanted to provide you know time over the summer to rest and rejuvenate we also took into consideration that the district is looking to offer professional development over the summer which will also take up time for our staff um and therefore wanted perhaps they might need a little bit more time before starting back to school developing a calendar that meets the needs of everyone is very very difficult and so both smita and the district really discussed things that were going to impact teaching and learning as well as other district services we've also heard you know from previous survey that it's difficult for some families to be able to find child care when you know we have breaks um during october or props during the spring and and that there are more
192daycare options or camp options in the summer um in addition we have our district and maintenance operations they do deep cleaning at all the schools over the summer and an extra week would be helpful this summer as well we've just talked about all construction projects we are also embarking on hvac projects at eight schools um and you know having um additional time to clean and prepare for the opening of school is helpful we also took into consideration that there are some families that like having say for example an october break where they can travel in the off season which is often more affordable so as you can see it's quite complicated when we're trying to develop calendars but both smita and the district took all these things into consideration and presented to you for your
193approval this evening are the two calendars that consists of a one-week october break a one-week thanksgiving break we found that many families would like to travel and see family over that time period we also have a two-week winter break and a one-week spring break which allows us to have an additional week in the summer to do some of the things that we've talked about so i respectfully request that you approve the calendars as negotiated and i'm happy to answer any questions you may have thank you sue are there any clarifying questions from the board um thank you sue for that presentation uh just a couple clarifying questions i think i don't have anyone else i received two emails uh from members of the public regarding uh one for about the fall break and one about
194the spring break and so just to clarify this isn't a negotiated item but there was parent outreach uh prior to the discussion of looking at all these additional things that you've um outlined right all the different factors is that correct um so let me clarify um we did not do parent outreach or formal survey for this particular calendar but i want to say two or three years ago prior to the pandemic there had been a survey that was sent to families but we did not do one this year uh is it no okay thank you thank you thank you very much any other questions i i just had a question around i don't know um so if you're able to share a little bit about kind of um [Music] um you know i know again
195i know this is negotiated and there was a vote was it pretty strong in terms of you know most folks really feeling really strongly about this particular option was it more split was it are you able to share a little bit more about that i can um you know this is like i said it's really difficult to meet the needs of you know all staff and families and the district and so um typically what happens is that you know smeda will gather input the district gathers input from staff speeda will gather input from their unit members we develop two calendar options this year we developed one option with a one week spring break and one option with a two week spring break smeda will share the two calendar options and their members take a vote
196the one week spring break had more boats but it was by a small margin and that's been the case for the last last year as well there are approximately half the people that like the one week spring break and like getting out earlier in the school year and there are people that like the two-week spring break um you know which you know takes us one week later into the summer so it's close it's hard thank you any other questions okay can we go to public comment please if there are any members in the public comment that would like to speak plus the raise your hand functionality and i'll call upon the order in which we are receiving them president procter we have no raised hands okay let's go to board discussion i'm happy to go
197real quick i'll be brief um i just want to say i appreciate having the calendars i know there's been a lot of questions from the community from families about wanting to see these calendar calendars so that they can plan out their lives people have to make decisions about requesting vacation [Music] you know finding child care summers programs etc etc i do feel like there's been a little bit of buzz around you know short the how shortening the spring and october breaks is harder on working families as a working mom myself in the lower income bracket in our school district i have to say that for me personally i don't really agree with that thinking i think it's much harder to find longer care in like in the middle of the school year um that's my
198experience i don't speak for everyone but but i do think it's a perspective that um you know does that i feel uh i remember that that was part of what was in the survey results from a couple years ago and so you can correct me if i'm wrong here but i do remember that coming up and then oh my gosh there was something else and i lost it so i'm gonna i'm gonna stop here and if it comes back i will share uh i just want to thank you guys for all your hard work i know it is really hard to to try and appease everybody i mean we are a district of over 10 11 000 students with tons of families and and it's very hard especially with a unified high school district that
199has different scheduling hours so i really appreciate it and thank you for everything you guys have done just to echo that um it uh i think this kind of like you said sue it's it's one of those things where you kind of never make every 100 of people happy with these kinds of decisions so you kind of go with the best and the approach was thoughtful in terms of the different considerations so appreciate that and you know to all of all of our teachers for working on this as well um and continue to be a um iterative process you know that we'll come back to in two more years um to talk about calendars again so thank you i'm just going to echo what everybody else is saying sue thank you so much for negotiating
200this calendar with all of our different stakeholders um i like the idea of having a bit longer summer break especially if we're talking about providing professional development opportunities for our teachers because once again i mean coming back to our newly created strategic plan and our newly created goals that's only going to increase our achievement opportunities for our children you know i also i'm looking at you know for families with special needs having smaller breaks during the school year um is is nice for several different reasons one i mean just let's call it like it is you know respite um you know because when you're caring for your child 24 7 which i know we all do anyways but you know i think that there's like another level of care um with some of our our
201more impacted students being able to send them to school is is a chance to recharge your batteries a little bit so that you can be prepared to take care of these children when they come home i also you know agree with trustee corzo in terms of you know the child care aspect child care is expensive when you have to pay for it and you know having a one week break that you have to manage as opposed to a two week or i know i think there was one year they even tried what a three week winter break um you know that that was another time that was was very difficult so um i appreciate that thoughtfulness as well and it seems like it's kind of um may not may not satisfy everybody but i feel
202like it's it's the best of all the different worlds that we're trying to to make happen um i just wanted to thank sue and smita for providing us with two years of calendars i think that's great um no matter what it is we at least know um what to plan for and so i think this is great um at least for my own self i i kind of favor the one week breaks so um this is fine with me so thank you um okay so i think this is something we need to vote on motion to approve the district founders for 22 23 and 23 24. okay thank you trustee watkins for the motion and trustee warren for the second we will do roll call trustee warren yes trustee watkins yes trustee corzo yes trustee
203chen yes and i also vote yes great we have some calendars the next item is 9.2 classified employee seniority list thank you and thank you for the approval of the calendars i do want to thank julie macarthur and lisa fahey and the smido leadership for their collaboration and negotiating two years of calendars um 9.2 is a classified employee seniority list each year the human resources department updates the seniority lists and for your approval this evening is the classified employee seniority list the process is such that we distribute those seniority lists and we provide employees an opportunity to review them um and ask any ques um questions and these seniority lists will be used in the event that we do need to have layoffs as layoffs are done by seniority date so i respectfully request that
204the board approve the updated classified seniority list with the understanding that we may need to make corrections as needed i'm happy to answer any questions you may have thank you sue are there any clarifying questions okay um can we go to public comment there are any members in the audience that would like to provide a public comment please press the raise your hand functionality and i will call you in the order in which it's received president proctor we have no hands okay are there any board comments on this item okay then someone can make a motion emotion do it thank you trustee corzo for the motion and trustee chin for the second uh roll call we'll go to trustee warren trustee watkins yes trustee corzo sorry yes trusty chin yes and that's a yes for
205me okay we will move on to item 9.3 certificated employee seniority list similarly we've done the same with this certificated seniority list these are also distributed giving employees an opportunity to respond or ask any questions and presented for your approval is the seniority list for certificated employees with understanding that we may need to make corrections as they come forward so i respectfully request that the board approve the seniority list is submitted thank you sue are there any clarifying questions okay let's go to public comment if there are any members in the audience that would like to make a public comment please press the raise your hand functionality and i will call you in the order in which it's received president proctor we have no hands raised are there any board comments on this okay ken
206would like to make a motion then do it emotion motion to approve a second thank you trustee chin for the motion and trustee watkins for the second i'll go to roll call trustee warren yes trustee watkins yes trustee corzo yes trusty chen yes and i also vote yes thank you okay thank you we are now on item 10 board member statements and requests for future agenda items i'm just trying to move these along so i'll jump in um i was at a middle school sports night virtual night last night talking about middle school sports and one thing that occurred to me as we as we're talking about the sports program and athletics uh the program itself and i i know i think um i think when i first joined the board this you know we
207were in different situation right we were deficit spending we were severely in the red you know way back in the day obviously sports and other extracurricular activities uh were cut and so it's taken a long time to kind of come back out of that we are out of that and for better for worse money is falling from the sky from the state or the feds not for the long term but just in the immediate term and one of the issues was um i know the district is contributing 150 000 to the sports programs but that doesn't make them whole in terms of i think it's i think it may be 250 or 300 000 so we may be paying for half to actually run the program um at some point in the future i would
208love to know what the actual costs are to make our sports programs sort of whole so that they don't have to go out to our education fund or the parents to essentially sort of like pay to play essentially because they are asking for money from everyone who makes the teams to actually contribute and i feel that that is sort of inequitable in a lot of ways so not only the sports program but it would be interesting to know about also our other extracurricular activities whether it's um you know the arts program or the music program as well just as a whole i feel like we are in a much better place fiscally and the idea if these costs are not that big it does not make sense for us to um to kind of put
209out a hand to ask um parents for more and more money so i'll just say that so at some point in the future i'd love to have some sort of update on that please anyone else i would like to request we put educator housing but not like in the next like we don't have to rush into it basically right it's not like urgently but just to start the conversation okay are we good okay um item 11 is future meeting dates there's february 24th march 10th and 24th and also um we have school site visits on the 22nd of february and i believe we're going to lead in george hall okay so that'll be fun and oh item 12 is adjournment would anyone like to make a motion motion to adjourn second thank you trustee watkins
210for the motion and trustee chin for the second will do roll call um trustee warren yes trustee watkins yes trustee corzo yes trustee chen yes and i also vote yes you are adjourned at 10 14 p.m thank you you
