00133 awards were given to students in the areas of science, math, history, ELA, much much more as well. And including with that, co- validictorians this year. Yes, we have two that just shows how intelligent our kids are coming out. Co- valid Victorians this year were Yana Hernandez and Natalie Rathana for rewards day, which is something that uh something relatively new that intro that Isabelle is introducing. Uh Isbel's seventh and eighth graders were treated to a rewards day on Monday, May 18th. students participated in fun outdoor activities and had a chance to spend time with their friends. Uh Isbel's girls soccer team finished third in their league as well. Isbel's track team finished
003their season in first place and boys volleyball finished their season in eighth place. Can we get a round of applause for Isbel Athletics? Uh additionally, they also hosted their eighth grade promotion dance, which is a fun tradition that they've been hosting for god knows how long. Uh they've been hosted there will host its uh promotion dance this Friday, May 29th at 6 PM in the Isbel gym. Oh, look a birdie. Uh students will dance with a DJ, have food and drink, and we'll end the night with a fun photo booth. And finally, promotion is right around the corner. Yes, that's right. Isbel's eighth grade class will be will be wearing their their gowns and making their families proud on Thursday, June 4th at 300 p.m. We hope to see you all there. Oh, there's the
004slide right there. So, there are a couple pictures there for you guys. Uh, moving on to be moving on to Blanchard. Tomorrow, the Beagles will showcase their talents during their annual band and performance art show. Yeah, visual arts. Uh for the Santa Paula High School um athletics, they recently hosted their awards sports day. uh multiple students throughout all acade throughout all the sports disciplines were awarded. Um countless honors, MVP awards, etc. Can we get a round of applause for all of those award winners? And finally, uh from Glen City, they're having a Kona Ice celebration. Glenn City earned first place districtwide for car parent LCAP survey participation and second place for student LCAP survey completion. And as a result, all students, staff, and teachers enjoyed Kona Ice on Wednesday, May 20th. The event brought a great excitement to campus and was very well organized. A special
006thank you goes out to the parent pol volunteers who assisted in serving students as well as assistant principal Acha, um, teacher on special assignment Rogers, reading specialist Gangel, and outreach coordinator Duran for their support and coordination. That is all I had to report for this week. Mr. Torres. >> Good evening. Starting off with Grace. Th is finishing the school year strong with many fun and engaging end of the year activities. This week, principal Mrs. Chavez hosted a parent appreciation breakfast to thank families for their continued support of students, staff, and the entire Tiger community. Looking ahead to next week, they'll ask you save the date for their sixth grade promotion ceremony on June 3rd at 3 p.m. Moving on to Mckvitt. MKV hosted their annual art fair on Wednesday, May 20th, where fourth grade students
007performed a song for their families and families enjoyed walking through the courtyard to view student artwork displayed throughout the campus. To close out the school year, Mckvitt will have a color run on Friday, May 29th, followed by several end of the year activities like a staff versus students kickball game and sixth grade students recognition awards. Lastly, Renaissance High School and Independent Studies. Two weeks ago, students from both Renaissance High School and Independent Studies participated in the Disney Imagine Imagination Campus theme park design workshop. This was a great opportunity for students to learn about creativity, design, teamwork, and problem solving without having with also having a fun time at Disneyland. For many students, this was a very special experience, and we hope students will have the opportunity to participate again next year. Last week, we also
008held our senior awards lunchon where outstanding seniors were recognized for their hard work, growth, and achievements. The lunch was served to students and families, providing a meaningful way to celebrate our seniors before graduation. As Renaissance High School and Independent Studies are winding down the school year, our seniors are especially focused right now as they prepare for the graduation ceremony, which will take place on June 4th at 6 p.m. We are looking forward to celebrating our graduates and all they have accomplished. We hope to see you there. That is all I have for you guys tonight. >> Trusty ML. >> Good evening. Starting with Barbara Webster. This Saturday, Webster will have their first annual wrestling takedown tournament in the Barbara Webster cafeteria from 9:30 to about 12:00. All are welcome and can watch. Next week, Webster
009will have their end of year celebrations, including 6th grade promotion ceremony June 1st from 8:30 to 10:30. The senior rock walk June 2nd from 8:30 to 9:15. Staff versus 6th grade kickball game June 2nd 9:30 to 10:30. Kinder promotion June 3rd 8:30 to 9:30. And field day June 4th 8:30 to 10 p.m. 10:00 a.m. And that is what I have for Webster. Now moving on to Bedell. Bedell is ending off the school year strong with a spirit week this week. Tuesday was dress like your favorite character. Today, Wednesday, was dress to impress. Thursday is school spirit day and Friday is blackout day. Also this week, Bedell is hosting their stream showcase on Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. There will be lots of fun stream activities as well as food, spirit wear, yearbooks, and a
010special hip-hop performance with Mr. Cheese, which begins at 6:30 p.m. And that is all I have for today. >> All right, we'll move to the superintendence report. kind of appropo that there's so many people here for this particular one. Close the door. Close the door behind you in the back. The bird just left. We don't want it coming back. It's >> our mask on. >> Oh, if there's if there's a room. All right. Okay. So, um, some in the community might know, our board knows that the board approved a resolution to for the high school district, um, to be able to, uh, do a bond in the November 3rd bond election. And what we are looking at is, um, the first part of the construction is um, redoing Bride and Gym. However, part of that
011construction is also dealing with locker rooms and things that will be attached to Bride and Gym, but also service the pool area. Um, and so we only have money through our insurance for the burning down of Bride and Gym. So, we need to go out to get a bond in order to be able to renovate and do everything we need to do. So, um, we originally looked at about 39,875,000. Um it we were looking at the growth rates of Santa Paula and the community and uh we had the opportunity if we wanted to to kind of push the envelope to from 4 to 4.5% which would mean that we would be able to go out for $48 million. Um the rate per 100,000 when you spread out that much of the growth of assets gets
012lowered from 28 point $2811 per 100,000 to um $27.98 per 100,000 and that's 100,000 of property value. However, we ended up in the end we ended up doing a resolution for the 39875. We wanted to make sure that we were in the parameters of uh our growth, which is the $28.11 per 100,000 and the average home price in Santa Paula, if you you're looking at it, it's it's between 734,000 and 760,000. So, as we move forward, what I and and I said a little earlier, these are the areas of the projects. So, as you can see that we um want to add a multi-purpose and wrestling room. This is in addition to the ride and gym, the pool equipment building as well as pool deck deck and um the site development which will include locker
013rooms for the pool area as well as for bride and gym. They'll be connected. And then once that area is complete, we will go to area three and we will be working on a performance arts uh center, a site development, and then if um the budget allows, we'll do a weights and cardio type multi- um purpose room. So when we break it down, construction um and renovation costs are about $29 million. Soft costs of construction and renovation, which means these are the not actual construction costs, but they are the soft costs that include architecture um and getting all the inspections and everything done, is about $8 million. an escalation, which means that every year that we do not actually start the building, costs of construction go up. And we're estimating es uh escalation during this
014project to be about $4.3 million, which is total of 41 um million. Uh and again, the bond amount is $39,875. We do have other funds that we can use to to shrink that gap between the 41 and the 39. And so that's what we plan on doing. And as a reminder, 55% in order to get the bond passed. 55% of voters voting yes. One of the concerns of the board during um doing the resolution was the actual bond statement that we wanted to simplify it and make it as clear as possible to those who are voting on the bond. So, as you can see, we we put the to improve the quality of education at local high schools, make health and safety and security improvements, construction of gymnasium, performing arts and pool. Um the Santa
015Paul Unified School District measured to issue the 39 million bonds at legal rates estimated average levies of $2811 per 100,000 of assessed value um and be adopted annual audit with annual audits independent uh citizen oversight committees and no money for salaries. It's strictly for construction. So in order to get the bond passed, we need to campaign for our bond. We need to get the community to um understand what the money is being used for and how it's not only going to benefit the high school, but the community. For instance, the pool, the pool that we're looking at doing is um much larger than our current pool. It's going to be rotated a little bit and that will be a community pool when the high school is not using it. So um basically the rules are
016that we can engage as private citizens in any type of umformational activities and uh promoting the bond. However, during the time that we are representing the district itself, we can only give facts about the bond and not encourage anybody to either vote for or against the bond. So, um, a board can pass a resolution in favor or in opposition to a ballot measure. Um, so we we will be, uh, presenting a resolution to be in favor of the ballot measure, um, before the end of this school year, probably on June 24th. And then a school district board member or administrator may attend a meeting of a citizens group at the request of the group to explain the factual basis of what the bond's all about. Skip a page. Any questions from the board? >> Any
017volunteers for the campaign? >> Any questions, comments? I guess I just want to encourage anyone in the audience if you haven't seen the plans, they're they're just they're absolutely amazing. They they'll honor Santa Paula um and our traditions uh here in uh in our community. So, I encourage you take a look at them uh and ask questions because uh uh our our community deserves this and and we we're going to need the help of our our community to to get this bond passed. So definitely take a look. >> I do have a question uh for you. Um just for for the community and for my knowledge. I probably already asked this before um but I can't remember. I can't recall it. Um if this bond isn't passed, are these facil I know the bride and
018gym regardless of being um rebuilt. However, if this band if this bond isn't passed with 55% of the voters, are these facilities still being built regardless or if it's not passed then also these facilities will be postponed? >> They would be postponed. Yeah. So the idea is the architectural drawings are good for two years with DSA. However, at the end of two years, we can then just update the safety um issue uh parts of the actual um plans and then it can go another two years. So we wouldn't have to repay for the architectural drawings, but it would delay the actual construction. Um, I do have one question. The So, the bond amount we're going for is 39 million, not 48 million, >> right? It's 39,875,000. >> So, why the not the 48? Um well
019the reason we didn't do the 48 was one the needs of the district is about 41 and we do have um other other fee income that is used for construction that we can use. And what we didn't want to do we wanted to make it as clean as possible that this is the amount it's going to cost us. This is the amount we're going out for the bond and we're not getting a whole bunch of extra money in at the cost of the taxpayers. Keep it as low as possible to the taxpayers. Okay. >> All right. >> Does the bond amount and and the 39,000 39 million, excuse me, does that is that enough to cover areas one, two, and three? >> Yeah. With about um about a million and a half contribution from our
020already existing construction funds that we already have that are left over from P and Q as well as our developer fees. Yeah. So, it will be in and that also includes >> plus insurance. plus insurance. That also includes the escalation. So, we looked at it like this passed in November. You know, we already have the construction companies under contract to help value out the construction, but it won't get started until the summer of 2027, probably not completed till the summer of 29. So, we have to each year it's going to cost us more and more to construct. So, we actually built that into the pricing. when we talk about a an oversight committee, right? Are we talking about a body that's made of school district officials or are we talking about the a body made
021of community members at the school? >> So, uh oversight committees for construction bonds or general obligation bonds is each bond that we go out has its own committee. These committees are made up of um community members from different aspects of the community. So, one from a taxpayer association, one from um retirement community, one from one of the businesses within the area from the Chamber of Commerce. So, there's actually a minimum of seven seats that need to be on the bond oversight committee, and it's actually designated where those people should be. Um, but you could have 20 people on the committee, but you have to make sure those seven seats are filled with the right people. All right, thank you very much. All right, we'll move to committee updates. Trusty FTOS. Yes, I've got two updates.
022Um, just got noticed today that our next 2x two city and district meeting uh will be on June the 2nd, which is a Zoom at 4:30. So, I look forward to uh meeting with our partners at the with the city um and look forward to seeing what the agenda looks like as we get closer to that date. And then also we have our sonal education foundation cardinal legend night is coming up fast is coming uh fastly coming on June the 13th. Um so again if you haven't purchased your tickets uh trustees and community um the foundation definitely needs your support. They uh they they put together uh an excellent program in awarding uh I mean thousands and thousands of dollars of scholarship money. So again just uh putting a plug in for the Cardinal Knight
023Cardinal Legend Knight. >> Trusty Kumazawa. >> Uh no committee updates. Thanks, >> Trusty Roy. >> Nothing to report. >> Trusty Rumls, >> not my committee, but a committee. I attended yesterday's CTE district-wide advisory meeting. It was a great meeting, first of its kind in the district. We're really moving forward with work based workbased learn or work yeah work-based learning um and really understanding the needs of our community and giving our students the workforce skills needed to exit high school um and really be competitive as a workforce person within just the industries that are so popular like healthcare, construction, engineering and so on and so forth. meeting included folks within the district, folks outside of the district, but involvement with the industry that industries that are growing. So, I highly recommend if you are a student
024here, if you want to learn more about workforce learning or work-based learning, please reach out to one of your teacher leads, a part of themies or the pathways to talk more about it and get involved. We had an alumni there. Um, he was fabulous. Um, so again, if you are interested, please again feel free to just shout your name out. Not right now, but in your of course in your respective classrooms. >> Okay. And I just have one thing to report. Uh couple weeks ago I was up at Sacramento for the CSBA's delegate assembly. The objective of the assembly this uh time was to inform CSBA's uh staff of what the priorities are for legislation in the next uh two-year cycle um for around the state. So it's was a great process. Good to hear
025what's going on around the state at different districts. Good to hear that we're not as maybe bad off budget wise as some other of our uh brethren out there. Um but yeah, budgets are pretty tight everywhere. So, so anyways, so the we get to inform our organization what our priorities are. Um and with that, uh we'll move to public comment. All right, we'll start with Slali Salgado. Hi, good evening everyone. My name is Slali and I'm an organizer with Cause uh based here in my hometown Santa Paula. Um I work alongside high school students and families in this district. Um, and I'm here today because many young people, even adults, have shared with me their serious concerns about student safety. Folks have noted the lack of accountability and transparent communication following the reports uh involving
026unauthorized recordings and AI generated sexual exploitation targeting students at Isbel Middle School. Students have described feeling anxious, distracted, and unsafe at school, especially since some of this harm has been circulating on social media since February, if not before then. Many students noted that there has not been enough communication, transparency, or support to the students directly impacted, nor to the rest of the community to let us know if the situation is being addressed. The issue is bigger than the harm caused and the rumors on social media. It speaks to how prepared our schools are to respond to emerging forms of digital harm, including AI exploitation, non-consensual recordings, and online sexual harassment involving minors. Students in our community are asking for action. We want a full and thorough investigation on this situation. Some of the predators may
027have deleted evidence, but through the prop proper channels, it can be recovered or traced. We'd also like clear district policies around AI misuse and unauthorized recordings. safety protocols for locker rooms and athletic spaces. Training for all school district and school district staff and administration to appropriately respond and better manage situations like this. Counseling support for the impacted students and other wellness resources for them and their peers who felt uneasy knowing that there's predators among their peers. direct communication with the impacted families and overall accountability with with a restorative justice frame for the students that participated in creating this harm. For them, we recommend counseling, community service to revoke the right to participate in their promotion ceremony andor Washington DC trips. Students deserve to know that when harm occur occurs, adults in position of leadership will
028respond with urgency, care, and accountability to reflect the seriousness of the harm caused. Thank you. Next is Alexa Flores, followed by Hansen Gonzalez. Hi, my name is Alexa Flores and I a current senior at Santa Paul High School. To add on to what Sili said, this coming from my heart, I am beyond disgusted at the fact that these students only got a three-day sus suspension. To make it clear, child pornography is considered illegal in the United States and in other countries. I've heard from my peers that victims are scared to speak up and that's why I'm here speaking for them. I would also like to point out that this incident happened during school hours, which is outrageous that it did, especially since school is supposed to be a space where students should feel safe. And
029so what we are asking is for there to be an increased disciplinary action like conducting a full investigation and involving the police from the harm that these three boys cause. Thank you for hearing me out. >> Hansen Gonzalez followed by Damian. >> Uh good evening dear Sapola Unified District Leadership and Board members. My name is Hassan Gonzalez Montiel and I'm a student at Sarapala High School in 11th grade. I'm concerned why parents of the victims haven't been notified about the situation happening in campus. Not only that, but affects the reputation of the school and the respect and confidence that parents deposit towards the school while enrolling their kids. This event shows on responsibility and lack of abilities to manage the h what happens inside facilities. I'm not only speaking what because my peers are speaking
030but also because I'm an older brother whose little sister will enroll in Israel in the coming years. Thank you Damen followed by Maria Reyes. Good evening. Uh, I'm Damian and I'm a sophomore at Santa Paula High School. Uh, I'm speaking because I'm concerned about the safety for children for the issue involving AI generated sexual exploitation. Uh, I'm here because I want to ensure all impacted students and families are informed and supported. Uh, I believe students um I believe that counseling support for both the predators and the impacted families should happen. And I think the more appropriate consequences than a 3-day suspension should also happen. That's all. >> Maria Reyes and then Gonzalo Hernandez. >> Good evening and good day to you all. My name is Mary Reyes. I'm an upcoming 11th grader. This district has
031made a commitment to protect their students safety, including their emotional and mental health. with how the issue with AI and sexual harassment. I have to question if three-day suspension was enough and justifies the harassment a person much less a child has to face especially at the age when they are most vulnerable to others opinions for someone to defame and disrespected in this way especially on school campus insult safety and and respect. Technology advancement is unpredictable and dangerous especially how it's handled. For example, as of such is the same meta glasses which is meant to record in perspective but instead use used as a tool to inflict harm in a school environment where such technology is not needed. Um so I am speaking to you as a student. Will a 3-day suspension be enough to make
032sure a similar incident never occurs again? I'd ask for the district to collaborate with each family of the victims to inform an appropriate response that seems fit as a consequence. Thank you. >> Gonzalo Hernandez, followed by Johali uh Lopez. >> Um good evening ladies and gentlemen. My name is Gonzalo Hernandez and I am a sophomore at Santa High School. Today I want to speak on the fact that many parents um were not informed of this tragic incident that happened at Isbel Middle School. My cousin who was enrolled at Isabel is one of the many victims. Who is one of the many victims does not want to speak up due to the due to the dehumanization she faced. A reminder that my cousin is a minor who was wrongfully used for AI generated child pornography that
033she was not aware of. My question is, how could Isbel Isbel district allow devices such as meta glasses that can record and take photos at the press of a button in their school as well as the fact that this is not only done by one kid, but a group that were determined to violate and exploit their fellow classmates. I ask on behalf of those unable to speak for a punishment bigger than a three-day suspension. Conviction of child pornography is a crime and not a slap on the wrist. Thank you. >> Yali Lopez followed by Christina Contas. Good evening everyone. My name is Yali Lopez and I am an 11th grade junior currently attending Santa Paula High School. I am here to advocate for the female students and teacher who are victims of this AI sexual
034exploitation that occurred at Isbel Middle School two weeks ago. What happened to these victims is extremely traumatizing and overall really reflects on how the school is choosing to handle the situation. The predators of this incident only got a 3-day suspension for their actions, which was a federal crime. Just because these predators are still minors does not give them the right to do these horrible actions. This is not okay. This really affects these victims, especially giving them trust issues and lots more. If if this were me, I would think that my life would be over at that point. Students at Isbel should feel safe and protected, not anxious or fearful that something similar could happen to them. Therefore, I believe that this that there should be safety protocols created for the locker rooms and athletics. So,
035security in the locker rooms at all times and for every athletics teams to be supervised and protected by security. Also, the three students that committed this heinous crime should be expelled and not just given a 3-day suspension. Thank you, >> Christina Contraas. And then Jose Verana. Good evening everyone. My name is Christina Contreras and I am an 11th grader and a wellness peer at Santa Paula High School. As a student and active member of of our community, I am saddened and mortified of the event that occurred at Isbel Middle School. None of the victims deserved what happened to them and I am deeply concerned over the their current mental well-being status. Mental health is very important to me and this event most definitely has affected the victim's mental health. If I personally was a victim,
036this would definitely affect my mental health because it would isolate myself and see and I would see my classmates differently because I would think that they would have seen the videos of me and this would even lead to me not even wanting to attend school. With this being said, I believe the victims deserve counseling and have the right to know it's not their fault. And not only that, but I believe this has most likely affected the victim's um emotional distress or it has affected emotional distress as well. In no way, shape or form are the actions of the boys who created this awful incident ever be accepted. Thank you, Jose Ratana. Threeday suspension. Three days. Are we okay with 3-day suspension for these kids? We have failed them. We failed them. Their parents failed them.
037Police failed the parents of the victims and the victims. Principles, superintendants. We got to protect our innocent young ladies, young girls were affected by this. Who are we as a society that we make this 3-day suspension? Are we okay? Are you okay? Are you okay? Is the police okay? So, at this point, are we okay with child pornography being sold in our schools? 3day suspension. Who are we? Who are the grown-ups here? Where are the grown-ups? Child pornography. It's It's not okay. It's not okay. And let's just remember we are the citizens of this small town. They they are public public servants. They are here to serve the people. They are here to serve the people. Let's not forget that your word matters. And if we're okay with three-day suspension for pornography in our schools,
038then we got bigger problems. Just remember that. Three days. Three days. All right, we are going to move on to recognitions and there are a number of them. So, we're going to start off with our student board members. Um, student board members, can you come on up? Let's see. Right. Do I have anything to say? How are we doing this? Huh? I'm sorry. Yeah. Where are the boy? Oh, that's right. You gave it to you gave it to me. Okay. So, come on up. We're going to make We're going to embarrass you as much as we possibly can. Yeah. Here. go ahead and give a the rest of the board members can go up while I read out their accolades. This is right now we're Okay. All right. Okay. So, Nataline Magna, graduating senior. Throughout
039all of high school, she has been I'm going to read your your person. It sounded a little weird, but I'll I'll do it through you. Throughout all of high school, I've been in the Health and Human Services Academy and have been the treasurer of the HSA club since my junior year. Other than HSA, I have been an active member in several other clubs and activities, including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Key Club, ASB, and Varsity Cheerleading. After high school, I will attend California Lutheran University, majoring in exercise science and minoring in public education and Spanish. I will also continue cheerleading while in college. After college, I plan to pursue a career in pediatric nursing and eventually become a pediatric nurse practitioner. and uh our trustee was also a recipient of the Rotary scholarship, right, to
040help her in her endeavors. So, congratulations for her on that. So, why don't we go ahead and uh >> shake some hands, get your certificate, and >> yeah, I want a handshake, too. I should have gone up and done it over there. Um JD Torres, right? go from her words. I've been a part of Renaissance's ASB active and food share volunteer teams here in town. I've been on Santa Paul High School's color guard team for three years as well as a theater member for two. My future plans are to continue my education majoring in forensic science through Ventura College. My current pathway plan has uh has me working towards my associate at VV VC and transferring over to UCLA for my bachelor's. and she was also a recipient of a Rotary scholarship to help her
041in those endeavors. Trusty Torres on behalf of the board, thank you all for for your service. Right. Um, and we on behalf of that board, we wish you luck, right, in your next chapter in life and we'll get some pictures. >> Yes. >> Right. So, >> can you guys you guys are in the wrong place? You guys should be in the front. >> Yeah. You know, before we go ahead and take the picture, I do want to recognize Asher Gonzalez. He was the first freshman ever to be nominated to be a board of trustees. He used to be only seniors. Then we brought in a junior and then to our surprise, the students voted in a freshman and he has been here his freshman year and his sophomore year. So, he may continue, but we
042wanted to make sure that he got a certificate of our appreciation for what he's done so far. You're not done yet. We have retirees coming. Retirees. >> Yeah. Remember how we did it last year? So then you stand here. I'll do the announcement. I'll get you the plaque and then they're going to start this way. >> Okay, great. >> Okay, hold on. We got to get not this way. Good evening all um retirees and students receiving recognition. When your name is called, please come up to the front and start shaking board members hands on this end with Naidelene. Nelene, will you raise your hand, please? And work your way to the left. Once you get to the end here, Dr. Sandival will hand you your gift or your certificate of recognition, and you will exit
043this way. Retirees, once you make your way to this end, you will have the opportunity to say a few words if you would like. And we ask that all groups, please hang around for a short group photo. Miss Helisa over there will be um in charge of the photos and we will take a few minutes after all recognitions for you to enjoy some light refreshments and for the group photos. Thank you. Okay, here we go. This person I'm sure is not here because she's already moved to Colorado. But we would like to recognize Sonia Bautista for 29 years of service. Next person with 20 years of service, Inz Blanco. Um, this person has 28 years of service. Lisa de Lao, please come up. Um, I just want to take a moment to thank the kids
044and the families in this community for making me feel welcome at Mckvitt starting in 1998. Um, the kids have been a huge blessing. Thank you. We wanted you to know that um their actual uh uh what is this called? Plaque says, "Thank you for your years of dedication and commitment to the students and staff of Santa Paula Unified School District." So, next we have with 26 years of service, Annette Gail. Please come up. I just wanted to say it's been lovely to be working in such a wonderful community. with 21 years of service. Mary Lou Gwyn, please come up. With 30 years of service, we have Maggie Era. Please come up, Maggie. Thank you. Um, with all due respect, I do I would I do have like a little petition for the school, honorable school
045board. Please continue to support the preschool program, the early childhood education program and teachers as it is an asset to Santa Paul school district. My children themselves are products of the preschool and they're all college educated adults, some with several degrees, not just one. Thank you. Next with 28 years of service, Sean Miller. I just want to say thank you to all of Santa Paula. Truly, I don't think I could have dreamed a more beautiful career in a more beautiful community. I look and see a lot of faces of course that not only I recognize as colleagues but also students and I've had a chance to also be the teacher of several of the the board members children my own three children um just a truly remarkable career and I just want to know that
046everyone that who is here present and those who aren't present I thank them from the bottom of my heart. Thank you. with 23 years of service, Teresa Moore. And the person with the most years of service this time, 35 years of service, Annette Ramirez Shay. Next, coming up with 21 years of service, Aida Rodriguez. I just want to say this 21 years has been awesome. Um I've at the high school all this time a lot of children that I've met. I'm the the registar so you always know but I think in the 21 years I think I've seen and put my little grain of salt on the maybe 2500 kids that I've sent off to college. So but it's been awesome. Yes, it's great and I love it. And my boss, thank you for being
047here. Thank you. I appreciate it. And my mommy for being here with me. Yes. And all my other co-workers that I see around here, all the APS. Thank you. And thank you everybody for the recognition. This is awesome. Thank you. >> Thank you. And we actually have a couple that's retiring. And so we're going to start off with Ben Via with nine years of service, followed by Teresa with 23 years of service. I just want to say and I enjoyed my time with the school district. It was challenging but rewarding. Thank you. I just wanted to say thank you to um this community. Just like Sean said, you know, we have a nice small community here. I've made a lot of friends, lifelong friends from t people that I've taught with including um Sean and
048Annette and Lisa. and I've made um friends with families of the kids that I've taught like Tommy and Anna and it means a lot to me. But once Ben decided to retire, I decided I wasn't going to be far behind him. All right. So, thank you. Well, that concludes our uh retiree recognition. Once again, a round of applause for all of our retirees. >> No, this is the one. Oh, >> my text. >> M. Okay. We we have two more sets of recognitions and after that we'll break. So >> don't leave this up here for >> Yeah. Did you So thank you everyone. Um this is a great opportunity for us to highlight our migrant students who dedicate Saturday school to come and learn from 8:30 to 12:30. And we every year we have a
049competition um at the state uh I mean at the regional with all different uh districts around the county and we had Santa Paula had 23 participants and all of our 23 participants uh placed. So we're very very proud of them and their competition they have to write speeches and debates and so we're very proud of them but they can't do it without their coaches. So, I'm going to just introduce uh Rosio Bravo and Maria Munoz who uh dedicate countless hours to coaching their students. So, I'm going to I'm going to let them honor their students for their awards. So, hi everybody. Um the first student that I'm going to call up is Evelyn Ramos and she was in our Spanish debate team. The second student I'm going to recognize is Ashley Hernandez. Okay, it looks
050like she's not here. Luis Gomani Alonso. And these are our competitors for the Spanish debate team. Up next, I have Susana Aso. Maria Rodriguez, Benas Up next, I have the um debate team, English debate team, um who got first place and competed at the state level. Starting off with Natalie Huarees, Carla Lopez Analya Seline Himenez. and our senior Natalie Cruz. and and and I actually had the honor of coaching the middle school team, Spanish and English, which is really exciting. I'm going to say something in Spanish just for our parents. So this is our our first place Spanish debate team, Julio Ramos, and he just came from Mexico, too. Antonio Reyes, Elmer Gen, and he goes to competition like that. Yared. Oh no, Yetsi is not here because her brother is not here, right? Yetsi.
051Okay, great. And now my English team who should have got first but uh they gave us second but they are first place in my heart and they really worked really hard. So, Elizabeth Gonzaga Herardo Mania. Thank you. Huh? And then I'm just going to take like a little break to let you know that we um also had a nominee for our parent of the year for migrant. And so one of our parents that dedicates a lot of times ever since she came to Santa Paula, she's been very invested in her children's education, bringing them to every Saturday school to every summer summer school, making sure that their students get the best that they can get. Laadama Maria Elia. Hi everyone. >> So our next uh student to be recognized for uh competing at speech and
052also representing Santa Paul at the state level, Jesus Ortiz. Angel Molina, Brianna Murio Joseline Molina, Gabriella Ramirez also represented us at the state level and Liliana Ramirez. Stay here because we're going to give you your So, we also would like to take a moment to um to recognize uh Joseline Molina. She's been in the migrant education program since she was in middle school. So, it's great to see her succeed. She started, you know, coming to middle school speaking only Spanish and she's worked so hard um to be accepted to various universities. So, this year we nominated her um to be recognized at the district and the region uh then nominates uh the student. So, she has been awarded as the honor state student for the migrant program. So, That indeed is a huge recognition. Um,
053and Yoseline was mainly um nominated for her leadership, her commitment to the migrant program, but also for everything she does to support other students. She's also very involved in organizations like COS. Um, she's in the AVID program. She volunteers everything. It's a great example for other students. She's indeed a role model for our migrant student population. So, congratulations, Yelene. We're very proud of you. We got a stop already, right? >> Well, thank you very much. I also just want to take a moment that um to thank Dr. Ramirez for remaining student centered and under her leadership we have seen so much growth in the migrant program. There's numerous migrant families here present but the impact she has made in the community has been beautiful and we just want to thank you for your dedication and
054commitment. Thank you. All right, we have one more set of uh recognitions. Um, the board will honor and congratulate the following students who are Santa Paula High School juniors enrolled in chemistry classes who participated in in the Merido Foundation's 2026 energy efficiency uh to mitigate climate change and ocean acidification challenge. Don't ask me to say that again because I don't think I said it right the first time. So, the finalists uh are as follows. Environmental issues challenge track. First place, Victoria Castanto uh castanos. Uh Jacqueline Zacharias uh Yeraldine Zun uh Zun Niga Zavala. I'm sorry. My allerg And then for honorable mention in that same track, Emma uh Campbell, Elizabeth Silva, Rocky Manzano, and Andrew Arana for the waist challenge track. In second place was Haley Castro, Audrey Romero, uh Aureli, uh uh Deas Deas,
055and Allison Torres. And then in third place for the waist challenge track was uh Himea Estrada. And then finally for the energy efficiency challenge track in first place uh Nicole Salenas and uh Elisa Arthiaga. In second place, Clara Hernandez, Cynthia Menddees, and Ashley Montavlo. And in third place, Jason Gutierrez, Alvaro Adame, and Joseph Zun Gina Zuniga Zuniga. All right. And with that, uh, you know, it's it's good to see, you know, everybody recognized in all of the things that we're doing here at the district for those who are retiring and honoring your service, for the students who are, you know, competing and succeeding. Uh, so I'm glad that all of you were present for all of that. But with that, we are going to take a 5 to 10 minute break. Um, retirees, if you
056could come up to the front so we could take a picture. Um, uh, but other than that, there are snacks around somewhere, refreshments back there. Um, and so we'll take a 5 to 10 minute break. Thank you. Heat. Heat. Hey. Hey. Hey. Heat. Heat. Okay. All right. We'll move on to uh seven presentations overview of the AVID program. Good evening members of the board, superintendent, administrators, staff, families, and community members. Tonight, we are proud to present a brief year in review of the Santa Paula High School AVID program for the 2025 2026 school year. AVID's mission is to prepare students for success in college, career, and life. Do I How do I phs students with tremendous potential who often face significant barriers? Over 80% of our students were identified as English learners at some point
057in their educational journey. Um, and over 80% come from low-income backgrounds. Over 80% are first generation collegebound. Additionally, approximately 15% have experienced homelessness or housing instability. AVID students are expected to challenge themselves academically through honors, AP, and dual enrollment coursework while also participating in structured supports such as tutorials, agendas, learning logs, and community service. Our students are not expected to be perfect, but they are expected to persevere. >> Our success is made possible by a committed AVID team. Collectively, this team has built a strong culture of accountability, support, and college readiness. The consistency of our staff has allowed us to develop strong relationships with students over multiple years. >> A major part of our success comes from working with our counseling department, especially Miss Rosio Bravo. Students receive academic advising, transcript evaluations, four-year planning, scholarship
058support, and assistance with college applications. Counseling supports help move students beyond simply being college eligible toward becoming truly competitive applicants. Students are also connected with leadership opportunities, extracurricular involvement, enrichment programs, and career explor exploration opportunities. >> Vanessa Chavez and Selia support students with scholarships, applications, registration, and college readiness activities. Angel Arosco and EAOP provide additional support with UC applications, field trips, and first generation student outreach. These partnerships are critical to helping students navigate systems that many families are encountering for the first time. And as their avid senior seminar uh teacher, these individuals and Rosio are critical to our success. We also want to acknowledge the support we received from AVID district director Melissa Gara and AVID implementation strategist Courtney FTH Williams. Their collaboration with our site ensures that SPHs AVID remains aligned with AVID best
059practices and continues to grow as a program that serves students effectively. >> One of the questions that we are often asked is why are AVID students so successful at getting into universities? The answer is that AVID intentionally builds the exact experiences colleges are looking for. Students complete community service hours, participate in clubs, engage in leadership opportunities, and develop strong personal narratives through personal insight questions and brag sheets. At the same time, they are taking rigorous coursework and participating in tutorials twice a week. >> Each year, our juniors complete the service learning project. In groups, they identify real needs in the community. They decide on a topic together. They research that topic all semester long. They write a research paper as a group and then design and execute their project in the second semester. It's really
060beautiful to see them do this and have a real impact on the community. You can see some of our photos from this year. We have more incoming pretty soon. This year they've done um campus trash pickups, local park cleanups, beach cleanups. We did a big food drive, a toiletry drive for the homeless, a school supply drive, and mental health awareness in classrooms. >> This is that last slide is really a credit to Haley. She took it on a couple years ago, and she's really driven that out, and it's really, as Rosio will tell you, I will tell you, it's a huge reason why our kids are getting scholarships. So, thank you to Haley for that. Um, our student uh survey data that I uh went through this earlier with the students earlier this year revealed
061something very important. 84% of AVID student uh AVID seniors reported wanting to attend a 4-year university. However, over half said that the cost of college would significantly impact their decision. This highlights the financial uh realities many of our families face and reinforce why scholarship access and financial aid literacy are so important um in our program. >> Our AVID college tutors are one of the strongest components of our program. These tutors work with students and organize tutorial groups twice a week, providing approximately 50 hours of academic support each year. More more importantly, they model collegegoing behavior and help students build confidence in rigorous academic settings. We are very grateful for their hard work. Our students would not be as successful without them. >> Um, UC and CSU applications. This year, 100% of our AVID students were
062accepted to at least one CSU campus and approximately 80 to 90% were accepted to at least one UC campus. Our students, okay, so we have the CSU data. Our students applied broadly across the state with CSU Northridge, CSU Channel Island, CSU Fullerton, Long Beach, and San Diego State among the most popular CSU campuses. Um, at the UC level, I'll switch to the UC slide. Um, and this, you know, the presentation's public. I'm going quite quickly through this if you guys want to look more closely at the data. Um, with the data, we find uh UCSB, UC Merrced, and UC Irvine among the most popular destinations. Um, we're especially proud of how competitive our students were with UC Santa Barbara admissions. This year, we had uh nine acceptances to uh UC Santa Barbara. >> Uh, why
063are AVID students getting so much scholarship money? We've talked about some of these items, but brag sheets are really important. Our kids build them from freshman year all the way through senior year. So, they're noting their awards, their grades, their activities, and thinking about their background. Uh personal insight questions, we start in the junior year as well. Here are some major scholarship highlights. Uh Gates, uh two AVID winners in the past two years, one currently at UCLA studying premed and one who intends to study at CI or UCLA and nursing. Uh QuestBridge scholarship. We had a winner last year who's attending Stanford. Three finalists this year, but unfortunately none were able to match. Athletic scholarships full ride. We have one student that we know of. Um Del Scholarship, two winners in 2223, one in 2324,
064two in 2425, and two in 2526. And the Ronald Reagan Library Scholarship was which is also a really big deal. $40,000. Four years of $10,000 per year. This year we had a semi-finalist. Um there are a lot of scholarships so you'll have to sort of read a little bit more about them. But just as a quick note um this year alone AVID students earned tens of thousands of dollars in scholarship support that will directly impact college affordability for families in our community. One of our ongoing goals is expanding scholarship and grant opportunities for students. Our seniors are incredibly motivated and have powerful stories to share. We're always looking for additional partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and scholarship foundations that want to invest in Santa Paula students. Student feedback this year reinforced the value at AVID
065structures and relationships. Students consistently identified teacher support, tutorials, organization, and accountability as the strengths of our program. They emphasized how AVID reduced stress during the college application process and helped them stay on track with deadlines. Students also gave us constructive feedback regarding class size and time allocation and we will continue refining the program to meet their needs. >> Field trips remain one of the most impactful parts of AVID. Students visited Morark College, Ventura College. This our senior field trips. Um junior field trip to UCLA and the Getty Center. um the sophomore field trip to USC and our freshman field trip to Pepperdine. For many experience for many students, these experiences provide the their first opportunity to step onto a college campus and imagine themselves there. These trips help students understand that universities are not distance
066or unattainable places. They are real opportunities within reach. As we close, we want to thank the board of education, district leadership, site administration, counselors, teachers, tutors, families, and community partners for supporting AVID at Santa Paula High School. Most importantly, we want to recognize our students. Um, their perseverance, resilience, and determination continue to inspire us every day. Thank you for your continued support of our school's AVID program and the class of 2027 and beyond. Thank you. Any questions? >> All right. Any comments or questions from our board? >> My question is, I mean, how do you keep them encouraged to actually attend these UC's and CSUs? And do you do any follow-up communication with these students postgraduation? You know, maybe some are at UCLA and they have an identity crisis and they feel like they're not
067good enough for that $40,000 scholarship. I'm pretty sure you heard the same stories I've had, but what's what are the strategies that you have employed or what or how do you again follow up with these students, especially those who stay locally at VC or Morark College? Do you encourage them to become avid tutors or um I guess just poke I'm throwing you a bunch of questions all into one, so please answer to the best of your ability. >> I'll take this as a two-part question. I'll address um what we do to get them back into the program um the local students. So, we have students at BC, at CSUCI, and at Cal Lutheran who um in these final weeks of school, um I encourage them to fill out an application. Melissa has um graciously said,
068"We're looking for a pile of applications, um so that when we go into hiring, uh our AVID college tutors that Melissa will have that pile ready to go." So, um most of our AVID College tutors are former students who remain in the area. Um we do have also students who are um from uh we have Simon's from Foothill Tech. Um but not all of our all of our students are AVID graduates. We have HSA uh graduates who have come back to work with us. Um and it's just uh we we just open arms uh get those applications filled out and come back and be a part of the program. Um with students uh this year we've really gone gung-ho with uh having students back in the classroom. So as you speak about UCLA, uh we
069have two students from UCLA who who came and spoke twice this year, once last year along with a student from UCSB. Um a graduate uh from UCSB, we look uh with Rosio's help um we've had this uh student from UCSB's graduate program, not graduate, masters program, earning his PhD come back. But to address your question, uh more specifically, at the end of this school year, their senior year, I set them up on a Remind app. So as they go off that um where a scholarship I see available to our 19 year olds or 20 year olds I can send out hey the VCCF is still accepting applications but I'll also periodically send out hey we're ending this semester and we're looking for guests because I know that a lot of them are in far away
070places. We had a student also from Davis come back and speak in the class. Um, and so it's just, hey, if you're available, it's December. I know some of you guys are home, is come back and share your experiences because I will tell you that I I to them am a really old person and they don't listen to me, but when I get those 19 and 20 year olds in the classroom who are sharing their experiences with them, I see a lot of kids tuning in a lot more than they listen to me. So, I really appreciate the question of being able to share what we do there. >> Yeah, >> Mr. Banduchi old. Come on now. First of all, uh, Miss Hopkins and Mr. Buchcci, thank you for your work and I know it
071there's a there's a village out there that's working with our students and, uh, and please send our our our gratitude. Um, because we know the hard work that you're doing and we appreciate it. Um, so just keep up the good work and thank you. >> Thank you. >> Um, I do have a couple questions. All right. So, how many students are in Advent? We're at about 250. So, um, we have two sections, two sections being about 30-ish kids. So, two sections 9th grade, two sections 10th grade, two sections 11th grade, and two sections 12th grade. So, we round out about 250 kids. >> Okay. And how do you qualify quote unquote to get into the aptitude? Like who's selected or how does that happen? They just select to go in. >> Yeah. So in the
072eighth graded year they um you know like all the other programs they will be con like we'll go through the process of pitching our program. Um there has traditionally been then an applica like an online application that the students then fill out in their eighth grade year at Isbel or at MUO or at Briggs. Um and then we look through those applications and we accept those students. um as has been the in the past uh several years, we've kind of just taken everybody who has applied and with our with our data that we have to send up to Avid Central in San Diego, California, um we do have to hit a number of demographics, but we if you look at our demographics, we don't really have a problem hitting the demographics that they're asking us
073for. So in in in lie of that, we're really accepting of anybody who signs up at this given moment. >> Are there any other demographics than listed? So like so the e I see is is one of those right or are they current e or or any eel? >> So they were they were sorry they were listed as e when they came into Santa Paul unified school district that we have m much lower numbers that are current e but we do have in our program we do have current eels but it's it's much smaller. And what about do you have any special education students in Avid? >> Yes. >> Small number. >> Very small. >> Okay. >> This is where Rosio is really helpful because she is the counselor and she knows more. I I
074know my seniors Haley knows her juniors but >> Oh, okay. >> different subgroups in the >> Actually, can you can you go ahead and hit that? Uh yes, we've had students if we look at the past um history for the AVID program, it's probably tripled the amount of students in the program. Um so we do have and encourage students from other subgroups to join. Um even newcomers that are transitioning from EL to CP courses and that's where we see also the growth like from students being in the ELD program to like AP courses. Um but we yes we welcome and support students in any subgroup and encourage them to apply. We also have the support from all the counseling team during registration um to inform students about the different opportunities we have along with CTE
075programs. We have AVID. So we do have a lot of our AVID students also representing different CTE pathways. >> All right. Any other comments or questions? All right. Thank you very much. All right, we are moving on to uh information items. First reading, word policy 6146.1, high school graduation requirements. Director Gara. >> Good evening everyone. Uh tonight we're bringing forth the first reading of updated high school graduation requirements. Back in March, there were a number of CSBA uh board policy updates that uh came through during the board meeting. And in uh one of those updates, there were some edits to the elective credit requirements in the graduation requirements for Santa Paula High School, Renaissance High School, and independent studies students. they raised the max the number of stu uh credits that a student had to
076earn from 230 to 255. That's not our practice and it's also not what was published in our our annual notice to parents at the beginning of the school year. So, uh, this is an attempt to set the credits back to where they originally were and what has been the practice, um, for our high schools since 2019. >> Any questions or comments? >> 255 would be more than six courses a semester, wouldn't it? Isn't it? 240 is a >> 230 is what we require. >> Oh, no. I know. But I mean, if >> 60 elective credits is uh what we require across the board. >> Oh, I meant like I was just like going back to where it was. It was at 255. >> It was at 230. >> 2 Okay. >> March. >> Right. The
077update was for 255. >> Yes. >> Right. And I was just wondering that means that you have to do more than six at some point, right? Cuz 240 is six classes each semester all four years. >> It I believe it's actually a little bit uh Well, you're going to make me do the math on the spot right now, but >> No, no, no. I I did the math, right? That's more. Yeah. >> No, 230 is just like minus two classes, right? 240 is you take every single one. 255 would be we're asking them to take more than the full day, right? >> Yeah. We're asking them to do a lot more than any of the local districts would be asking of their students as well. >> Yeah. Okay. >> All right. Well, >> I think
078that's it. >> Action items. >> I have the next couple items. >> Do All right. Well, we've got a few contracts here. So, approval of UC Santa Barbara uh EAOP service agreement for Isabel Middle School and Santa Paul High School. >> Uh yes. So, tonight I am bringing forth a request for uh to continue our early academic outreach program services uh EAOP through UCSB. Uh the services um involve having a full-time EAOP site coordinator at both Isbel Middle School and Santa Paula High School. The total cost of these services is $90,000 45 for each uh site coordinator. This is funded out of grant funds as well as out of LCAP. There any questions or comments? >> So, does this mean that we have to hire someone, excuse me, someone from UCSB or we get to
079recruit and hire someone that would just be funded out of this specific? >> They're already working for us. So, we're just going to continue their contract. So, it's Andrew Agugustine and Angel Orosco at Santa Paula High School. Andrew's at Isbel. >> Perfect. Thank you. How does this compare to like say last year's con contract? >> It's the same amount >> and last year's was uh reduced I believe by $40,000. So UCSB has really tried to work with us on that. >> All right. Are there any further questions for the director? All right. So then do I hear a mo a motion to approve the EOP service agreement? >> So move. >> I second. >> All right. Any discussion? Um is this technically human services? >> Human services. >> Yeah, because this is a contract. I
080guess that's true. Okay. So we'll move to a preferential vote. I just wanted to make sure that the motion was going to be valid. Um, we will move to a preferential vote. All those in favor say I. I. >> Opposed. All right. Board vote. All those in favor say I. I. Opposed. >> All right. Motion passes. Uh, next uh approval of the UCSB uh MEAs service agreement. >> Uh so tonight we're also bringing to you for approval the uh Mesa Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement Service Agreement. Uh we have MESA programs at both Isbel Middle School and Santa Paula High School. We would love to continue with both of those programs. We find a lot of value in them and uh the services are uh paid for again out of grant funds. >> Any comments
081or any comments or questions for the director? All right. And this for 25 or not to exceed 25,000 or it's for 25. >> Is that what it says on there? >> It says not to exceed, but I was just >> Yes, it's 25. Okay. All right. So, do I hear a motion to approve the UCSB Mesa service agreement? >> So, move. >> I'll second. >> Okay. Any further discussion? All right. Hearing none, we'll move to a preferential vote. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. Board vote. All those in favor say I. I. >> I. >> Possed. All right. Motion passes. Okay. Approval of interdextrict services agreement with BCOE for the K12 strong workforce program ground uh round eight grant. So we were awarded we applied back in September through the uh
082VCOE consortium for the strong workforce program uh funds. This particular round will focus on engineering and ICT. We've been awarded $156,000 for those two pathways and the funds must be spent by the end of June of 2028. All right. Are there any comments or questions? It's not often you have such a docile board, huh? So, uh, do I hear a motion to approve the interd district service agreement with BCOE for the strong workforce program roundate grant? >> Some move. >> Hold on. Let we had someone down there. Do I hear a motion down on the other side of the table? >> I'll make a motion. >> Okay. Do I hear a second? >> Nathan, go ahead. >> I second. >> All right. Um, any further discussion? Okay. Hearing none, we'll move to a preferential vote.
083All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. Board vote. All those in favor say I. >> I. Opposed. >> All right. Motion passes. Uh, next contract. uh approval of the service agreement with Brandios Graphics. So as the board is well aware, we started themies a couple of years ago. Um we had um a marketing plan for thosemies. However, uh the leadership decided that they did not want to get brochures and logos and everything up and running right away. We wanted to establish the programs first, give them their identity, and then have the staff be able to give input into what kind of logo they want. Brandios is uh going to be working with us to um ensure that we have uh not only logos, but that they all kind of align with each
084other, that they relate to each other, so that we can we can make sure that it's uniform. And when we go to like cruise night and we have that type of thing, we'll be able to hand out these information packets and brochures. >> Yeah, I'm sorry if you did not hear that. Director Kira reminded me that the logos identified by the school sites. >> Okay, so like similar to what we have for the CTE program, right? but >> similar to what we have, but they want to make it more uniform looking. In other words, the size and of the mascot and different things like that across the board. >> Okay. >> So that when you look at um a banner or whatever, it all looks like it belongs together for for us. >> So what
085kind of process are we going to use to gather feedback from the staff? like >> what we're going to do is we're going to send out a Google survey in order to get responses of what they would like what are the most important things you think need to be included in the graphs one um once that's done we'll actually get artwork and then once that's done we'll send that artwork back to the sites and say okay this is what they came up with what do you think >> okay any other comments or questions for the team >> would the board have to approve what the sites would want. Like let's say a site selects something and would they go to the board for approval or would the >> anything anything that is not the um
086original approved mascot or logo for that particular site and academy would have to come back to the board because we're changing it from the last time the board approved it. And we'll do a whole presentation when we have it all done along with uh getting approval from the board. Yeah, I know people are very sentimental about sight mascots. >> Any other comments or questions? Okay. So, do I hear a motion to approve the service agreement with Brandio Graphics? >> A motion. I'll second. >> All right. Uh motion second. Is there any further discussion? >> I just have one question on the funding for it using LCAP funds. Is that our only option or is there any other money that can be used? >> Um that's our best option when it comes to the elementary schools.
087um we can when if we when we go to the high school and we're we're also including career paths then we can access you know some CT money but most of it's got to come from um and most of the support for them has come out of LCAP. >> Okay. Thank you. >> All right. Any further discussion? If not, we will move for a vote. These better be fantastic because $70,000 is a lot of money for six logos. >> nine 10 >> 10 logos. >> Thank you. >> Oh, independent studies. The six elementaryaries, >> right? >> That's seven. >> Renaissance Isabelle. >> Oh, also the >> Oh, I just >> I thought this was just elementary then. So, >> no. All of all of our sites are >> right. Okay. Yeah, maybe just my two
088cents involve the PTAs um students because sometimes they come up with >> better ideas sometimes and your art students and that might reduce the cost of um what we pay them when if it's just something that they've created and they voted on or they want then you can take those designs and just have them cleaned up, >> right? >> And allow our students to know how to use Canva and I mean it's just wonderful what graphic arts students can do. >> Okay. Absolutely. >> And then we have also our media people as well, it know um their G can use their expertise as well. And then maybe we only use half of that 70,000. >> That's not how this contract works though. >> Yeah. But it's a it's >> this contract is a package. >>
089Yeah. It's a package deal to to >> So it's a fixed fee. >> Like it's not a time of materials type of thing. >> Yeah. >> Okay. I mean, just to that's that's what we're voting on is 70 grand that's going to this company. >> So, uh I wasn't involved in all of these conversations, but I did overhear a lot of the work that Julisa and Olivia Lucio were uh doing. And this involves uh multi multiple iterations, mockups, back and forth, and also uh different image types. So like your JPEGs, your PGs, your vector files, all the things that you need to be able to make all the beautiful things. So that does uh take time and money. >> Yeah. >> All right, we will move to a vote then. So let's go to a
090preferential vote. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. Board vote. All those in favor say I. >> I opposed. >> Motion passes. All right. Next, approval of student attendance at uh FBLA National Leadership Conference in San Antonio, Texas. >> So, um in case the board is unaware, and I know you've heard this each year, we have competitions on the regional and then the state level. Those who make it past the state level go to the national level. And we have, I believe, three students that have made it to the national le level of competition and they are requesting uh along with their um advisor to be able to go to the national leadership conference and compete. Cost is around $17,600. Then it costs all travel and everything inclusive. >> All right. Any
091comments or questions for Superintendent Weinstein? >> I I obviously I I really want to support FBLA. I it's I I know the students in there and and I know they're doing good work. Uh I hear their feedback. So, I'm not in an in a disagreement to this. Uh my my concerns is I guess going forward. Um and maybe are we setting precedents or have we set precedents? Have we been paying for this in the past? >> Yes, since I've been here, we've been >> Okay. And and again, just so again, as I look forward to to budget, um and I know in in the upcoming year, we've got to be really, you know, careful about these big expenditures, you know. So, um I'm not in in disagreement, but I just want to make sure that
092I mean, we're we're a little careful about our spending. So, >> absolutely. Um to add on to that and just ask a question um do we have money um in our budget that's set aside for events like this? Like do we have like a specified money like aside account for like uh like uh unscheduled or unknown events like these with like national competitions where where we would be paying out of pocket? >> So for this particular event we're paying for it with our K16 funds. And so that's our grant our CTE grant money one of our funds. then there uh is plenty in there to support this and actually uh that's written into the grant applications in the event that they qualify for competitions that we can utilize those funds. >> Thank you. >> All
093right. If there's no further uh questions, do I hear a motion to approve the student attendance at the FBLA National Leadership Conference? So move. >> I'll second. >> All right. Motion and seconded. Uh any further discussion? >> Hearing none, we'll move to a preferential vote. All those in favor say I. >> I. Opposed. >> Board vote. All those in favor say I. >> Yes. I. >> I. I. >> Opposed. Motion passes. Oh, I don't we didn't check to see if any of our student board members were going on this trip. No, no conflicts of interest there. All right. Business services re resolution 2026 uh 26 temporary loans between district funds in the fiscal year 2627. >> Good evening. This is a um boiler pay that needs to be done annually um just authorizing us to
094again temporary loans between district funds in this current fiscal year. Have we if we have the need to do so. >> Any questions? >> You you said current fiscal year, but this is for 2627 >> next year. >> Is there a reason why we do it >> before the fiscal year just to give us the flexibility? >> These um are due to VCOE by 6:30 for the next fiscal year. >> Thank you. >> Yep. >> Any further comments or questions? I I think it's worth noting we do this so that we are not putting ourselves in a financial situation where we can't pay the bills. Right. >> Correct. >> And again, that goes to my previous comment. I just want to make sure that if we have the money, we can spend it. >> Correct.
095>> And I'm and I'm okay with that. But I think we just got to tighten up a little bit more about going forward in other areas. But that's not for this particular item. So, but that's why I'm real cautious about spending. >> Yeah, this is more about, you know, when funds hit the books, you know, and >> for whatever reason that month's coming in and we're light in one fund, we can temporarily borrow from another fund until those funds are received. >> Right. Because the alternative is doing a trans, correct? >> Right. Which is uh >> expensive. >> Yeah. Right. So, a temporary loan against, you know, tax receipts that haven't come in. Um, so do I hear a motion to approve resolution uh 202627.26? >> I'll motion. >> I'll second. >> All right. Any
096further discussion? Hearing none, we'll move to a preferential vote. All those in favor say I. >> I. Opposed. Board vote. All those in favor say I. >> I. I. >> Opposed. Motion carries. All right. approval of and certification of authorized signatures. >> This is another one of those annual things that we need to fill out. Um certificate of signatures that are done. This is for next year. So who will be able to um vis documents going forward. >> Any comments or questions? All right. All right. Do I hear a motion to approve the um authorized signatures? >> So moved. >> I second. >> Any further discussion? Hearing none. We'll move to a preferential vote. All those in favor say I. >> I. Opposed. Uh board vote. All those in favor say I. I. >> Opposed.
097All right. Motion carries. All right. Mexican-American Opportunity Foundation lease renewal. The five-year lease for the Mayoff uh the MexicanAmerican Opportunity Foundation lease is up. They lease a partial premise on Barbara Webster's um site for their preschool and child care services to students and families in the area. Um they had a five-year lease before and that's up. Um we did a three-year lease and that's the only thing that changed the terms. Um besides it being a fiveyear to a three-year, everything else remained the same. We um so the three-year lease will go from July 1st of 26 through 630 of 29. We charge them rent of $500 a month. Um we collect utilities at $1,000 a month and we true up utilities at the end of the year and if they've overpaid, we refund the money
098or if which more likely happens is um they owe us a little bit more, then they'll cut us a check. But everything else in the lease agreement stayed the same. >> Is there any reason why the the lease term is is less this time? >> It was just five years is a long time to project out, especially in this um current state that we're in. So, we thought a three-year lease would be good and then if um things haven't turned around, then we have an opportunity to make some changes. >> All right. Any further questions? All right. Hearing none. Um, do I hear a motion to approve the Mayaf Leaf's renewal? >> I'll motion. >> I'll second. >> All right. Any further discussion? All I'll say is that I just I mean it's a it's
099a great partnership. All right. They've been there for for a long time. They provide a service for for really for the district and for our community. So happy to reapprove this lease. All right. So we'll move to a preferential vote. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. All right. Um board vote. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. All right. Motion carries. Approval of escrow account for green schoolyards project construction contract. So, this is our general contractor, ChemCorp Construction for the Green School Yards um project at Glen City, Barbara Webster, and Blanchard. Um they've submitted the paperwork to have a construction progress payment retention withholding of 5%. Um it's you've already approved the 6.1 million and it's part of that 6.1 million, not in addition to. So, they're just
100we're going to create an escro account. So when we pay that that bill, 5% of that bill is going to go over into this extra account. So this is just the approval to create that account >> and and this is just to create sort of that last amount, right? Once things have been satisfied >> and then we'll pay pay that out, right? Correct. >> Any other questions or comments? All right. All right. So, do I hear a motion to approve the escrow account for the green schoolyards project construction grant contract? Excuse me. >> I'll move. >> I'll second. >> Any further discussion? Hearing none, we'll move to a preferential vote. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. Board vote. All those in favor say I. >> I. Opposed. Right. Motion carries. Human
101Resources approval of extension of superintendent contract. >> Good evening. Today I have for your approval um an amendment to the superintendent's employment contract to extend the term for the contract for two more years. The extension is being brought forward following the board's completion of the superintendent's evaluation process. As part of this process, the board reviewed feedback and evaluated progress using the California professional standards for educational leaders. The proposed amendment would extend the current contract until June 30th, 2029. Other than the term of the extension, the remaining provisions of the superintendent's contract will remain unchanged. So, at the time, uh, staff recommends approval of the amendment to the superintendent employment contract. >> Are there any comments or questions? Um I will start right because um I think we need to talk about right extension. Um you
102know just to inform the public you know this year we took a more rigorous um uh process. We we implemented a more rigorous process in terms of um superintendent evaluation. This is the first time since I've been on the board that we've actually done uh a staff and um district office survey. So certificated classified and administrators were all invited to um uh participate in a survey and um the board participated in that survey as well. So those results were accumulated over a gosh a few hundred people. Um so I think it gives a good look at least you know as to what we're all thinking right so um we did go over those result results um with the the superintendent um and I think you know again right for for the public's knowledge like we're
103we're not done with this process um you know we will take those results and in a open session we will talk about our strategic plan and how that's going to lead to the superintendent's goals for the next year. Um, but the the idea this year was to provide more rigor into how we approach this because in years past it's been um not structured very well at all. Um so so I am glad that we're doing that and I think next year will be even better. We'll have a calendar in which we will um be reviewing goals right at a set cadence. Um there will be a midterm you know evaluation as well. Uh and so you know this is just structure that we've needed for a while. So so it's the the first time that
104we're doing this right in a while right to provide that structure. I think the process went really well. I congratulate you um Dr. Donahghue for for shephering it as much as you did. Thank you. >> Um, and so, so I'm I'm pretty pleased with the results, but I will leave it to any of my colleagues to make any comments that they want. >> I definitely want to chime in and thank all those who participated and offered their honest feedback. Uh, that's important. Uh, we value the participation, the comments. Uh, we see our our staff as as as partners and uh and that's important to us. Um I definitely want to spend a little bit of time acknowledging uh the growth and the relationship that I as a trustee have built with our superintendent uh Mr.
105Weinstein uh over the four years. It hasn't always been the best, but what's always been good is that we've had positive uh communication even when it wasn't well. if that makes any sense. Uh I see the growth in our district. I think I I want to celebrate the the growth in our district. Do we have areas of concerns and needs? Absolutely. But I think we need to celebrate the direction we're moving in and reward the leadership in which the he's carrying us in the direction that we're we're moving. Um, I like the idea that we're we're putting together a calendar. We're putting together uh we're going to be working on goals because then that's going to that's going to keep our transparency out there so that anyone that wants to know can see what we're
106thinking at any time. Um but uh but I I do want to thank my colleagues here for all the conversations that we've had and we've had some differences but I I appreciate the uh the the willing to come together for the common good and it always comes right back to our is our students benefiting from what we're what we're acting on and I can honestly say with good intentions that our students are benefit benefiting from our action. So, thank you uh staff and thank you team. >> You know, like Trusty Fto said, we don't always we don't all agree on the board all the time, you know, but we do come up with compromises and we do come up with a shared vision that we identified during this round of the evaluation, not through just
107our superintendent, but for the district as a whole. Um, and there's more yet to come. I know in the past what this district's so used to is extending a contract or um not extending a contract or just you know no we are growing from here we know how to grow from here and we identify our weaknesses our strengths and what our needs are for our students. So um again for folks who just see this as just an extension it's not um it's an extension of more work um and I can say that with a lot of um a lot of enthusiasm a lot of energy that you know the board and I could sh just share that there's a passion amongst the board to do better for our students because we have taken a student
108center approach when it came to evaluation um and there's more yet to come from Yes. Are any other comments or questions? >> I was going to go last, but I guess I'll go next to last. Um, >> rock, scissors, paper, paper, scissors for it. So I I guess as the shortest termed uh you know trustee, I obviously don't have uh the benefit of past experience of of what this was like before uh Jeff and and before the uh the rest of the board and and my my peer trustees. But um you know, I will say yeah, you know, a lot of this is based off of you know, feedback. Um, being someone that doesn't have a lot of that personal experience, I I'm trying to listen and get the perspective of others. Um, but also
109too, you know, this is as much a gut feeling as anything. I mean, you you're always trust, you know, your own intuition. Um, I will echo, you know, a lot of the comments too that, you know, this does not reflect or does not, you know, there's still those challenges. there's still the work that we that we know that we need to do. Um, but I think if I was going to kind of sum up, you know, why I think I was in supportive of this and I I I want to congratulate too and and and thank uh Mr. Weinstein. You know, when you there's this saying when you're trying to judge people, you're some sometimes the best judge of their character and who they are, who they surround themselves with. And obviously that statement is
110meant to be like who their friends are and and and whatnot. You know, what their circle is. Um I'd like to kind of twist that and say that I as much of this and this decision and my choice was a reflection not only of Jeff, but who he's chosen to surround himself with and what I would call his cabinet and his leadership and his team. Um, I've just been very impressed um with everybody uh in the in the short time I've been here. And um I I want to say that this is as much a reflection of you all um as it is uh you know, Superintendent Weinstein. Um so, uh you guys should be, you know, I hopefully thankful of this. Hopefully this is what you want. If not, people lied on the survey.
111Um but but yeah, but again congratulations uh you know Jeff and and thank you for your your work and and thank you to the staff for your work as well. So thank you. So, I'm actually glad I'm last so I don't have to repeat a lot of the things. And thank you, Mike, for the way you summarized it, how you said about the friends because I really see the reflection of the district office, everyone, all the staff in there, and just you guys just do a phenomenal job. And in the last, I think two, three years. Well, I I've just seen some bumpy times, a roller coaster, but I feel that gosh, how long have you been here, Dr. Santa Maria? Three. Three years. So, it's with the change in staff and just right now
112people who who really I feel like want to be here and are here to for commitment, make your superintendent look good to us. So you guys put in the work. Everybody is just you guys are teamwork. Whether there's differences, you are here for the kids and um I just really appreciate that we went a different route with the evaluation and it's it's a start and I think it's going to go a long ways and again uh Vanessa, thank you Dr. Dr. Donna Hugh, sorry for, you know, the extra time you put into this cuz it made our job a lot easier and I appreciate that cuz it's hours and hours, you know, that you spent trying to read everything or skim through some things. So, I really appreciate it. And, you know, for all those
113who did um do the the surveys, I appreciate it. So, it's we're growing and I I think everything's going in the right direction and just sorry for all the questions and all the extra work that you guys have to do to answer our questions. But kudos to everybody and thank you Jeff. It's like Weinstein Jeff which what to call you. It's just been like five years now. So, um, again, just thank you for all the time you put in to our students and staff. >> All right. So, with that, do I hear a motion to approve the extension of dad's I mean, uh, the superintendent's contract. >> So, move. I'll second. >> All right. We're going to move to a roll call vote. Right. So uh is there any further discussion before I do so?
114All right. Trusty Frutos. >> Yes. >> Trustee Kumazawa. >> Yes. >> Trustee Ooyo. >> Yes. >> Trust Trusty Ramos. >> Yes. >> Trusty Sandal. Yes. >> All right. Motion passes. 5-0. >> You can stop sweating now. Um. All right. The uh declaration of need for fully qualified educators 2026 27 school year. This is an annual form that we submit to Ventura County Office of Education. It is basically um stating that we will our first priority is to always make sure that we are uh staffing our classrooms with fully qualified teachers um in an effort, you know, making sure that we're doing everything we can to get those fully qualified teachers with the appropriate credentials. um in cases where we can't, our second um priority is to try to uh find interns in a competent program.
115And our third priority um is a provisional intern permit or short-term staff permit. So, we submit this in case, you know, we aren't able to find or fully staff our classrooms with qualified teachers. Um, I will say though this year we have made an effort to really um post our positions early and so we are getting some great candidates to the point where principles are having a hard time choosing between candidates which is great for me to hear. Um, so I'm submitting to you for approval the declaration of need for the 2026 2027 school year. >> So move >> Oh, do we have any questions or comments first before uh >> Dr. Don? All right. So, uh, we have a motion on the board then. >> I second. >> All right. So, any further discussion?
116All right. We'll move to a board vote then. Uh, all those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed? Motion carries. 5 Z. All right. Annual statement of need for 30-day substitute teaching permits. This is another uh annual statement that we or form that we submit to VCOE um to inform them that um we do not have enough adequate number of fully credentialed or qualified teachers to serve as day-to-day subs. So therefore, we hire substitute teachers with the 30-day permit. Um the superintendent in the district must certify that there's a need for substitute teachers serving on a 30-day permit and that um the need exists in our district. So, I have for you tonight the um asking for approval for the annual statement of need for 30-day substitute teaching permits. >> And just for the
117board's information, this is uh a piece of legisl there's a piece of legislation that CSBA is carrying to make this actually a 60-day um substitute. It was actually went to the governor's desk last year, but was vetoed. So, they're doing one more try at it um to see if he changes his mind. So, but uh do I hear um or are there any other comments or questions? All right. So, do I hear a motion to um accept this annual statement of need for 30-day substitute teaching permits? >> So, move. >> I second. >> Any further discussion? Hearing none, we'll move to a board vote. All those in favor say I. >> I opposed. >> All right. Motion carries. >> Thank you. >> Consent calendar. Consent items are considered routine and will be enacted by a
118single motion. None of the items will be discussed unless a board member requests discussion prior to the vote of the motion to adopt the consent calendar. Do I uh any um anybody want to pull anything? Okay. So there are uh human resource um activity on this. So we will just move to a board vote. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. All right. Motion carries. Board member comments. Trusty Gonzalez. >> Right. Well uh to seal the words of one of my uh other um trustes on the board. Happy board meeting everybody. Um these past two years have been a blast. I am happy to say that I've been on the board. I've loved working and seeing with each every one of you um every every other week or every month. Um it's
119been a fun time. I think the one future comment I or the one future item I would like to see in the future or to see a community update about is the Isbel situation. Um I actually been tracking it since it came out and I will I will echo what um my fellow students and what my fellow community members have said up there. three days is not enough and I I would be pleased to see a further investigation or further consequences into the action. When we have students who are committing federal crimes that can result in jail time get a slap on the wrist, that is something where I I empathize with the community and I would like to see a change in policy um in the future. That is all I have. Trusty Torres.
120>> Um, I really don't have much to say except, you know, I had a really, really fun time doing this this year. I'm very sad it's my last year. I'm very sad I won't be able to do this. Um, it was a lot of fun. I loved traveling with these guys. It was very fun. Um, I loved, you know, just being a part of this. Was it a little bit stressful? Yeah, it was. But it was like the best type of stress ever. I love it so much. And if I could do it again, I totally would. That is all I have to say. >> All right, >> I kind of said everything that I wanted to say. But yeah, it's just been really fun. I'm really grateful for this opportunity. And I feel like
121it's made me grow a lot as a like even though it might just seem like like it to some students it might seem like not as significant like how is that going to help you grow? It helped me grow so much as a person. like my public speaking skills. I would have never done this before. Like I can speak and I've heard a lot of people tell me that my public speaking skills have grown so much and I feel like I've just grown so much as a person and I've had so much fun and like JD said I would if I could have done this again I would choose it a million times to do it again. Yeah. I don't I don't have anything else to say. >> All right. Trusty Fras. >> Awesome. Um,
122I definitely want to first say and and and thank our student trustees. Um, it it it is an excellent experience knowing that you have that kind of courage to express your thoughts and opinions. Uh, JD Miha, I mean, former former room 13 scholar, one of my students. So, it brings me great joy to see you uh here. Um, I'm not taking any credit. I see mama in in in the audience and I know where the credit is due me. your hard work and and and the village around you. So, good job to all of our trustees. Um, I just want to say that uh congratulations to our Santa Paula Cardinal baseball team for making semifinals. Um, I'm part of that baseball program and we haven't been there in a very long time. Um, they've fought
123like you know what and I'm so proud of them. Um, so just congratulations cards. I'm proud of you boys for for working for working your tails off. Uh, congratulations to our meu mediteru. Am I saying that right? Meerito. Okay. Meerito. I want to say like a cho. So go for it. And meto students uh and their honories. Our FBLA students, our uh UC uh grad night or UC night um awardees, a few of them, two of them here with us tonight. uh just so many things that we're doing well in this community. Uh again, do we have areas of concern? Absolutely. But again, we're moving in the right direction. And then final, um I want to thank the Isbel uh those that that came and spoke and were true advocates for our Isbel population. Um
124believe me when we tell you, you're you're heard. uh we are we're aware and we know that there's things going on. We can't really share a whole lot in public because of confidentiality and whatnot, but uh it takes courage for young people to stand up and speak up and become an advocate for someone that that can't speak for themselves. And I just want to thank the the students for uh for their advocacy because uh it does take a lot. So, uh, and then with that, thank you, um, our our cabinet members, directors, uh, Superintendent Weinstein, my colleagues on the board for for, uh, all the wonderful things that we, uh, again, that would that you have been doing to make our district shine. Oh, final uh, uh, the last thing, our migrant program, uh, amazing.
125Uh, there was one student in there, Jesus Ortiz. when he first got to the United States, he landed right in my classroom. And uh and that boy was a challenge, but he he grew. He wanted to learn. And to see where he's at now, it's awesome. That it it makes me proud to see that that kind of service and support um matters. So, uh just thank you all for an amazing amazing being in this amazing community. >> Trust. Yeah, just a couple brief comments. Uh, so yeah, hard to believe another school year has come to an end. Um, I remember being in the SE it just for a couple months um when I first was appointed. Um, but yeah, so first off, thank you to the the student trustees for another year. It's been great.
126I'm glad you guys had fun. Um, and especially to the two that are graduating, congratulations. Uh, best wishes for what's next. Um, I I'll keep any advice or words of wisdom brief because I know everybody around you is telling you everything that they think you need to know. But, um, yeah, just enjoy it. You're getting to a place in life now where you're going to stop being told what to do and it's really up to you to decide what to do and what's best. Um, so just always just if I could give you one recommendation or you know thing to say, just always just be true to yourself and if you're honest with yourself, um, you know, even even when it's hard, that's going to be your guiding light to get through the hard times
127is just being honest with yourself. So just do what makes you happy. Life life's too short. Um, yeah, and one other, you know, comment too to echo Trusty Foss about, you know, the situation at Isbel. Um, you know, I I just want to thank the students for coming out. It's it's always good, you know, even in circumstances like this to voice, you know, um, you know, what you think is right and be true to yourself, right? And feel compelled to to make those comments. But, um, yeah, I mean, there is a process. There's a due there's always a due process with with things like this. And I don't think the story is over, you know. So I I know folks are upset and they are rightfully have a reason to but um there's more to
128come I think is it would just be the message. So So thank you and that's it >> trusty row. >> So first of all I just want to say that this was you know a great meeting. We had a little bit of everything. Some bad, a lot of good, a lot of celebrating. Um, and I I truly appreciate when people do come and do public comments. There are things that, you know, we're not aware of or it's confidential. So, um, I truly appreciate all the comments and to the wonderful celebrations, everybody that was here receiving awards, the first places, the regional, state, national winners. I mean, it's just amazing that we need to celebrate. Um, and last but not least, um, our graduating seniors. It's a bittersweet. I've known one of them for a very,
129very long time. And yes, I've seen you blossom so much. And JD, it was just been you're just a ray of sunshine. Both of you are. But just, you know, being able to interact with you guys at the conference and meetings, you guys have just done a phenomenal job. And don't ever ever let anybody bring you down and say that you can't do something. If you fall, you you lift yourself back up and you know, you live your life the way you want. And I know it's going to be full of success. And you guys can always come back to this wherever you live. You can be on your school board or any boards in college or anywhere you go. So if you love this, continue doing it and growing and you know, just being
130the leaders you are. And with that, have a very good night, everyone. >> Trusty Ramos. Hi everyone. So, first of all, thank you to our student trustees. It's going to be different without you ha without having any students here during the summer board meetings, but congratulations. I just want to take a moment and acknowledge JD. Um, when I first met you, I remember I I saw the way you dress and I told you to keep dressing that way to our board meetings and I was right because anytime I visit a site or I went to an event, students would come up to me and talk about you and how they felt represented or seen by you. they weren't they didn't feel ashamed to dress how the how the way they wanted about or the piercings
131they had or the way they wanted to color their hair. So, it was nice to have you representing our students in that way. Um, and then another thing I want to I I've attended a serious event in the last two weeks, so I I'm sure some of our sites are sick of me already, but there's one event that I really want to highlight, which is our Burough Webster Athletics Banquet. This event was so heartwarming. It was communitydriven and it's honestly just an example of what we want all our community schools andmies to look like um inclusive, accessible and most important of all student centered. So Barb Webster, keep up the great work. Our community schools program is just growing from here. Um but have a great night. >> Public speaking is a really important skill.
132So, if you've got that out of this, that's that's awesome. Um, yeah, you guys have been a pleasure and yeah, it's always a little weird during the summer when there's no one on that side of the table. So, um, but anyways, uh, there was so much going on the last couple weeks. Uh, the UC success night, um, where we have 90 plus students that have gotten into a UC or CSU, the most we've ever had. I think it was like the highest out of all the programs. Um, so it was great to celebrate our students that way. Uh, I went to go see the Santa Paul High School art show that's hosted at our Santa Paul Art Museum. If you have not had a chance to go and see it, I definitely recommend it. Um,
133some of the art is just amazing. Like the it's really really well done. So, um, kudos to to them for that. Uh, I was able to go to um a program on the Sonora wheat project hosted by Leap Lab. Now, this project's actually being um hosted in part at Bedell uh Elementary, but it was really interesting to see kind of, you know, the the impetus for it like and what it teaches and um the connection to the land. So, it was good to to learn a little bit more about that and uh can't wait for Bedell's crop to actually, you know, be ready to harvest and they make bread out of it and so that's fun. Um I went to the St. Paul hospital for him last night. Uh this is something that I think
134the school district really needs to be a part of. Um our voices should be heard and we do represent a lot of families and you know the uh really the impending closure of our hospital is distressing and you know that there's no plan for well what do what services will we have? Um it's kind of a shrug of the shoulders going we don't know yet. Um, so you know, we should really be uh a part of that process uh and hopefully add some ideas to to what can happen um so that we can protect our families and our students. Uh I did miss the Renaissance High Awards um lunch. I love going to it every year. I was sick as a dog after Sacramento. Um I think someone got an award there maybe. Maybe. I
135don't know. I don't know. Um but again, you know, uh congratulations to all of those students. And finally, um this is the first time I was able to go to the CSUCI graduation ceremony. And yeah, that's a part of my my job and not part of the board duties per se, but a number of the students that I have came from this high school. And so it was heartwarming to see them, you know, fulfill that goal of graduating with a four-year degree. Um, and that I could be a part of that. Their educational experience was great and to celebrate that. So, um, yeah, it's that time of year. There's plenty of other things coming up, right? The Santa Paul High Awards night tomorrow. There was an CTE award last night. Uh, I can't get to
136everything. Um, but board members, I do, you know, recommend if you, you know, you were sent a link, there's a lot of events on there. Please put down where you where you can go to, um, because the sites do want to see us. And, uh, if we can make it, you know, to any of those, that would be great. So, so with that, um, our future meeting will be on June 10th will be our summer. All right. So this is the last uh board meeting of our school year. So with that uh we will adjourn at 8:31
