001here president lujan present thank you okay let's see is principal mclaughlin here they might come soon she's not she's having some difficulties mr siam i'm sending you a text message sir right now she just sent me some tech uh texts ah darling i wish she was here i'm sure she will be here very very soon i was and we'll look we look forward to her joining us so that way she can say some amazing things about you levi we're excited that you've joined us this evening um to give her some time do you feel comfortable leading us in the pledge and when she's able to jump in she can say some really nice words about you levi sure it's also pronounced webby levy my apologies my it's okay it's okay boy so levy would you

002like to begin leading us in pledge this evening okay sure okay go for it just say the pledge of allegiance yep yes all right here we go i pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all levy that was great nice nice work thank you so much thank you yeah levi you were incredible you spoke with such confidence we're really grateful that you joined us yeah that stands out president lujan while we are waiting for principal mclaughlin can we go ahead and play our spanish recording by all means let's sounds like a great plan yep great plan that sounds like a great idea gracias okay well i guess we'll give principal mclaughlin a little

003bit more time and we'll jump into reporting out from closed session thank you president luann uh regarding item number one there's nothing reported regarding that item number two there's nothing to report out okay thank you which brings us to the review of the agenda um looking around my fellow trustees i'm not seeing anything there is one item i would like to pull it's action item one e under the second set of action items i'd like to pull that item and then in reviewing the agenda it was notice that the public hearing is aft is scheduled to happen after we have our deliberations on the appointment of the new school board member and i'd like to suggest we flip that so we have the public comments prior to the appointment of the or open the public

004hearing prior to appointing this new school board member makes sense to me okay perfect okay not seeing any other items so i guess i shall jump into okay discussion on interviews conducted on march 17th and march 18th to provisionally appoint a member to the board of trustees thank you president lujan um we the school board um on january 28th we lost one of our school board members to who was appointed we didn't lose him thank goodness he was appointed to the south san francisco city council and um per ed code when a vacancy occurs uh on a governing for a governing board member a resignation has to be filed with the county superintendent of schools and then the board has the option to fill it within 60 days and at a special board meeting on

005february 11th the board of trustees voted to make a provisional appointment to fill the board vacancy qualified candidates filled out applications to be considered for this appointment the deadline for this was march 11th we had four candidates they were scott brindy dr shay ms nazra and miss powers and the four remaining trustees then conducted interviews in open session on march 17th and they invited back the top three applicants for their second interview and so tonight the board has an opportunity to discuss the candidates to deliberate and to make a determination whether or not the board wants to vote on a new candidate to take the the vacancy seat so we will have a five-member board after this okey dokey trustee murray i see you raised your hand yeah a couple of things one is um

006if we didn't select somebody what would happen that is a great question so if we don't select someone then the county superintendent would need to order a special election for to fill the seat as as you all know which can be a costly process oh um so um i just i i wrote down a few things just so i could remember so i'm gonna i'm gonna read them right now in making my decision as to which applicant i felt should be appointed i looked at a number of things character education experience history with the district and more i know each of the applicants have worked with i i know each of the applicants have worked with a couple of them and like them all i feel that any one of them would serve our district

007well despite the very public nature of these interviews the applicants did well some better than others it is not always an easy task to speak so publicly i appreciated the research each did into school boards ours in particular and the care in which each person answered the questions all displayed an understanding of the trustee's role a belief in collaboration and a focus on equity all have volunteered in their communities dr shay and ms nazra nezra have volun have both volunteered in our schools and district we received a lot of public comment emails phone calls and input from our community ms nezra received the most support each of them shared very different but valued skill sets each provided excellent letters of recommendation taking all of that into consideration i had to prioritize what i felt was

008most important this should not be a political appointment and we should not be looking for a person who represents just one point of view we are all massive multifaceted individuals and don't represent just one thing we should be looking for someone who has broad support from our many stakeholders someone who is communicative adaptable and a team player someone who is collaborative and possesses the ability to work with the community school staff and other stakeholders for the welfare and success of our students in order to achieve we must work together rheem nezra's ability to collaborate is evident over the last 15 plus years she has served on and shared many committees at the district school and community levels her commitment to our district began long before this process and our board so valued her ability that

009we appointed her to serve as our representative on the personnel commission over the years she has attended many school board meetings and has advocated for our students and families her experience has served our students well and shows a deep understanding of the culture of our schools and the process of board governance her letters of recommendation also included voices from a variety of stakeholders the principal of the school her daughter attends and where she is ptsa president a teacher from that school a pta president from another school and a retired principal and long time south san francisco community member the emails and public comments we received on her behalf came from many different stakeholders students parents teachers staff members administrators and more many were from staff and parent leaders in our school community most importantly i

010appreciated the many anecdotes about what a hard worker she is what she has done for our students and what her leadership has done for our schools this is no small accomplishment and shows a talent for collaborating she has also been a leader in sports and soccer in the schools in our schools and in the community having served as sports booster chair at south san francisco high school and a board member for a local soccer club with this experience she has demonstrated that she knows about our fields and has worked with the district and the city to understand and refine the process for reserving the fields her advocacy has been one to serve not just her children but all children this was also a theme in the emails we received on her behalf for as long

011as i've known rheem i have admired her passion for all kids but especially for those in most need so when i attended her ptsa meeting on tuesday night i was not surprised that she once again kept these kids in mind ptsa received some clothing store gift cards and they were discussing how the card should be distributed it was her idea that the principal identify and give them to students who most need them later in the meeting when discussing graduation she said that in 2019 she started a program wherein she collected gently used caps and gowns from former students to help students in upcoming years who couldn't afford the expense i also remember a few years back she solicited gently used prom dresses so that everyone who wanted to could get a new dress for prom

012her volunteer work is not the only experience she possesses she and her family own a business so she understands the value of budgets and prioritizing especially during the past year with the strain of covid19 before i move on i'd like to say that ms nezra is not just a pta model however i'd like to share the value of pta especially in our school district pta is made up of millions of parents teachers students and community members it is the largest child family advocacy group in the nation they strive to create meaningful alliances and partnerships to further family engagement improve student success and share wanted resources i saw you on the camera in our district we are lucky to have such a strong pta they volunteer in our schools as well as provide programs assemblies extracurricular

013activities items as requested by staff and more their meetings allow parents to engage through communication and support their presence in our schools ads ads to the enrichment of our students education they should be valued not belittled i urge my colleagues to move forward to appoint rheem nezra we are not here to work with and represent some of our stakeholders we are here to work with and represent all ms nezra has garnered the support from a variety of stakeholders she is our representative on the personnel commission an appointment for which she received unanimous support from the board and she has a proven track record for collaboration with various stakeholders through her volunteer work within the our district it is clear to me that she brings the necessary passion experience and ability to serve us well thank

014you thank you trustee murray i'm going to pause here because i see that principal mclaughlin was able to get in and you have an incredible student who did an amazing job leading the pledge with incredible confidence and i just wanted to see if you wanted to say a few words about him thank you i would love to um yes i am um so proud of our los cerrito students and i'm so proud of levi lara and i have a certificate of award for levy and um i am just so proud of him as i think we all are and he's one of our he's one of our many gems that we have at low cerritos thank you thank you principal mclaughlin and thank you levy for joining us this evening it was truly a pleasure

015to have you join our meeting this evening yes thank you lovey it's my pleasure oh wow all right um and earlier this evening we moved the public hearing before the trustee deliberation so i'm going to i'm going to open up the public so i'm going to bang you don't want me to reread my uh i'm going to pretend to have a gavel and then pause our regular meeting and open up public hearings so if you would like to comment this evening on the appointment of a new board member a public hearing in accordance with california education code section 45246 will provide the public the opportunity to express their views on the qualifications of the person recommended by the governing board for appointment so the raised hand feature is up and mr um i'm gonna turn

016it over to your expertise thank you president good evening i'll be calling on the speakers during public comment in random order to our attendees if you would like to speak please use the raised hand feature on the zoom meeting platform now attendees that have called in can dial star 9 to raise their hand speakers will have 3 minutes to give their remarks and you will hear a tone when your time begins when 30 seconds remain and when time has expired once time is expired we will move to the next speaker apologies in advance if i mispronounce your name first speaker is liliana rivera one moment hi good evening um wow yeah i had a lot of things written down but honestly i'm kind of shocked that the board allowed pat murray to just give that

017really long speech clearly just on behalf of a friend of hers um i really hope that everyone is given the same amount to talk um as she just took up i think it's kind of like honestly really out of line because there's been so many times that the community has wanted to like call in and weigh in on this and we've had our public comment limited to 20 minutes i think it was last time um so if you divide that by two minutes each that's only ten people who get to speak um but yeah i mean i mean i just like i'm kind of speechless because like i was reading through the public comments and i saw a lot of support for kayla powers with really good reasons why like lots of solid things that

018she's bringing to the table in terms of policy um and ideas that she has for the district and i saw several comments specifically about reim nasra's history in the city and you know the ratio of those public comments doesn't seem to reflect the narrative that uh is being pushed forward by the board so i don't know what i'm missing maybe like i don't know there was a bunch of private emails um kind of like how there was supposedly so many students who wanted to keep cops in schools i don't really know where they are i'd love to see that but it really seems like the community's saying one thing and the school board might be ready to do another um so yeah that was all i had i guess thank you for allowing me time

019to speak thank you next speaker is um ethan mitzi please go ahead hi can you hear me yes please go ahead oh um good evening president lujan vice president richardson trustees baker and murray and dr moore i'd like to comment on the appointment of a new trustee to the vacant seat on the board i think both dr shylyn shea and ms kayla powers gave the best interviews by far and are the strongest candidates to serve this community as trustees um i'd be really happy with either being appointed um i don't think anyone other than dr shay or ms powers should be appointed but if i had to choose one i would definitely pick kayla powers i am very confident that she would do an amazing job as a trustee um i'll keep my comment very

020short uh that's it thank you thank you next speaker is marcela rivera please go ahead hi yeah i'm just honestly in shock too with trustee murray's like love letter to miss rheem um i just i've had experience with her as a student um and on the soccer field and neither of those were yeah i guess a part of trustee murray's narrative of rheem and obviously like as a student or someone younger maybe there's a different power dynamic than um trustee murray has with green and you know i don't think green is a bad person but i just don't think that she's fit for this position i don't think she's bringing anything new to the table and i can acknowledge that you know maybe she's done things in the past but i think that you know

021moving forward we need someone like kayla powers or dr shay who is bringing a completely new perspective with you know history with the school board i think as dr shea said her son had attended these schools and she's been able to see the work that the school district has done in the past and acknowledge you know some of the shortcomings of the district which i think is a good perspective to bring and along with kayla powers who is someone whose family is from south city and you know she's getting involved in you know south city politics um i think her training as a consultant is a huge plus and i think that she can bring that more analytical perspective which is something that i think will strongly benefit the board um yeah i go through

022the public comments too and i you know maybe yeah there are emails that get sent to you guys that we don't all see but i think looking at the public comments you know what i'm seeing is that my experiences with rheem are not a single like event that other people have experienced this too like earlier today i was reading it and i saw a mom or a pta mom i think commented and said that you know she has been on these committees with rheem as well and had had negative experiences so i just don't think i don't understand how you know if students and whoever are writing in and saying they've had these experiences that you can like say with confidence that that's someone you want on the board trustee murray because you know who

023are the stakeholders you're talking about they're the students and if students are saying they've had negative experiences with this adult then i don't understand how that would benefit anyone thank you thank you next speaker is amanda sterner please go ahead oh let's try it again event amanda very much hi um my name is amanda sterner and i teach at los ridos elementary second grade um i have spoken at several meetings this year um but the tone of this will be a little bit different i wanted to thank you mr siam personally for after my last time speaking at the board meeting on a thursday i was able to get those ipads in my hand the following tuesday and i was able to get them out to my students the next day on wednesday and it

024has been game changing to have technology that actually works and then it was about two weeks later they had almost every single app that i had emailed you and said hey please put this on so thank you thank you for getting that into the hands of our students i would also like to thank the board or the um administration and the district for another decision that you made this year i hear you talking about somebody where everybody's calling in everybody's writing saying we want this person for us that person was beth mclaughlin we wanted her as principal we knew that she would be a fantastic principal and we could not have been more right everything that we have been accomplished this year anything that has gone smoothly has been because of that choice so we

025i want to genuinely thank you for listening to the staff to the students to the parents all of whom were speaking so vocally in support of this person of miss mclaughlin who is a fantastic principal and has made a huge difference so thank you very much i yield the rest of my time thank you next speaker is kelly woodridge please go ahead hi there i wanted to comment on um the position for the board as the school district continues on its path towards equity and educational standards and implementation across all schools it's imperative to have a voice on the board of somebody who can not only listen to all of the opinions but also use their communication skills and their strategic thinking capabilities to bridge those gaps and to find common ground that benefits everyone

026in the community most especially the students while i am not a person of color and while my experience in school were not always positive i went through my education not fully realizing the hardships of others and as i work in the corporate world i see how this thing continues to play out over and over and i think the time for intervention is now kayla powers has explained the nuances of equity with thoughtfulness and empathy in a way that makes it clear that collectively we can do better she is about bringing people together she's about listening to what is needed and what is missing and she's about strategically thinking about ways to find to make it better and not focusing on what cannot be done she has the experience and the vision to lead our youth

027beyond the challenges of today into a more hopeful and equitable future and while many people can give the definition of equity i believe not everyone knows how to make sure that equity becomes action oriented kayla has demonstrated in her professional experience as a consultant on racial equity and her service on the racial equity commission that she can do both she can speak to equity and she could deliver concrete actions to incorporate equity into education and it sounds like equity is a goal for the district and if that is the case i think kayla powers is your person thank you next speaker is josh please go ahead josh please go ahead okay we can come back to that one uh next speaker is eddie holman please go ahead hi good evening south san francisco unified school

028district members of the public uh my name is eddie holman i'm a third generation south san franciscan and alumni of altamonte middle school and el camino high school first i just want to give a comment on kind of the process of public comment um and at first i just want to say that i understand you have the authority to limit the amount of public comments under the brown act but that does not mean your actions appropriate president lujan and i speak specifically to you because you have the power to open up this democratic body to hear the voices of the people students teachers and members of the public taking time out of their day to speak up for what they believe in needs to be encouraged our voices matter and this public input is what

029makes democracy work silencing our voices when you don't agree with us breeds cynicism with our community and we trust you less hear our voices if you don't want to listen to the people of south san francisco then you should quit all right on to the school board appointment i wasn't going to say anything about rheem nazar but i want to respond to some of the patently dishonest comments by trustee murray first off rheem did not receive the majority of support that's a bold-faced lie the public comments are recorded online as are the submitted public comments anyone can check the public record and see that she did not receive the majority support um another thing that struck me is wrong about that that uh speech murray gave is that she tells us we shouldn't be playing

030politics but then goes on to back up her personal friend when she was clearly the most unprepared candidate and look i really don't want to make any personal critique on reid nazar i trust her intentions and wanting to do this but based on her answers in the public hearing dr shea and caleb powers were much more prepared and articulate they offered concrete cases how to move forward as a community rheem offered none of that dream offered no concrete proposals south side south san francisco unified school district is not a business there is no for-profit incentive owning a business provides no relevant perspective um that's a pet peeve of mine hearing people say that business is a perspective for government because business does what government want or government does what business will not do lastly kayla

031powers clearly the most sound understanding of what equity means um i support her candidacy fully uh she proposed several concrete ideas just in her interview um she's from she's the closest to school age a population she understands what the youth are going through she'll be able to hit the ground running on day one and improve the life of our kids in the district and then just a throwback to uh reopening schools i just want to say again as i've said before it's the absolute height of hypocrisy to meet via zoom acknowledging the deadly nature of cobra 19 to discuss sending teachers students and staff back to an environment where they put themselves and their families at risk citing money from the state to be open is a sick justification have you made the determinate have

032you made a determination that money is more important than the lives of your staff and community there is literally a light at the end of the tunnel maintain the virtual setting that all the students and teachers have become accustomed to and we can revisit in person in the fall when the endemic is under control and that's all i have to say tonight thank you very much thank you next speaker is olivia pogarelskin please go ahead good evening my name is olivia pogarelskin and i'm an elementary teacher at berrybury and i'm speaking today to share a few pressing issues with the board my comments today are not about the new board appointee although i appreciate the community's comments tonight i wanted to give you insight into what will happen in my classroom once we go back

033in person on the 19th you recently approved a return to in-person instruction for the afternoons despite the fact that only 45 of families indicated that they would feel comfortable with this plan however the numbers are much more dramatic in my classroom and many others on my campus of my 24 students only three will be returning to campus on the 19th that is 12 of my entire class the other 88 will have zero support during the afternoons from april 19th on making me come in for four afternoons a week to work with 12 percent of students while 88 of my class receives nothing makes no sense i have students who depend on those afternoon small groups and office hours they are the only thing keeping those students afloat academically and now these students who most need

034my help will not receive it none of my students who most depend on flex time signed up for in-person sessions with me why are we moving forward with such an inequitable plan when we aren't even getting money for it anymore it just doesn't make sense i also notice that this board is still continuing to meet over zoom where it is safer i also want to alert you to a huge problem at bury bury's campus i learned that as recently as march 23rd no ventilation test results have been made available to anyone on our campus no one knows if we are compliant with the cdc guidelines or not the staff bathrooms are my biggest concern and i urge you to go visit one they are single rooms with no windows we strongly suspect that no air

035is moving completely against cdc guidelines and we need to see an official report on the ventilation situation inside of them please note that the door cannot be kept open as they are single person use meaning no stalls and they are always kept closed and locked to ensure a student doesn't go inside and lock the door with all of these issues in mind how do we justify moving forward with a plan that meets the need of 12 percent of my class and i haven't even touched on the equity issue of making only elementary teachers return while middle and high school teachers remain in the safety of their homes please think again if this plan makes sense i don't see how anyone can look at the numbers and feel like they have made a decision based on

036what is best for our students thank you next speaker is phil naranjo please go ahead thank you yes good afternoon uh superintendent moore uh president lujan and board members in south san francisco community i'm a i'm a third grade teacher at spruce elementary and um i have to piggyback on what was said just previously by olivia um the last four meeting i attended there was some discussion about opening up right after spring break and i do appreciate the fact that our board listened and decided to push back the opening date to april 19th that kind of made more sense than just opening right after spring break ended however between that time period the cdc decided to change their uh requirements from for for students in elementary school from six feet distance to three feet distance

037okay i mean that doesn't make a lot of sense to me um what it does what does make sense is that everyone is being pressured to have kids come back to school i don't think that's a decision that was really thought through and i have looked at the study that was done to make that decision and i'm hoping that our school board looks at that same study because um we should not be opening up schools to more students unless it's safe not just only taking into consideration space concerns okay and then i know we have a our our fabulous uh bargaining team met with um the district and came up with an mou today and i i'm excited about that um but i also am concerned about an equity issue for um parents who have

038with small children who have been working teaching very hard all day long and then having to work with their own students their own their own children in a school setting or or um have to take care of their children because there is no available child care due to various reasons it just doesn't seem fair to me to have um that a parent who is staying home not get paid for the the last two hours of the day while the middle and high school teachers who happen to be parents have the luxury of staying home so that should also be looked at and i appreciate your time tonight thank you just a quick point of clarification the comments for this topic are supposed to be just we've opened up the the public hearing or public comment

039just for comments on the appointees we have not gotten to public comment so for the two people who have your hands up if you can the comments of this section of the meeting should really be limited to the appointees who are being considered and there will be a separate section for public comment later in the meeting okay thank you um next speaker is yoreli solorio please go ahead miss rheem nasro received the most public support marie that was one long long long love letter because my question is where where did she receive the most support and when because i too read and hear the public comments and let me inform you that she is the least supportive a lot of parents and students have come forward to talk about their bad experiences with dream and

040that says a lot on the other hand we have miss kayla powers who is the most supportive she is committed to serving the community and is the right candidate for the job and i really hope you guys make the right choice today because hashtag the data is there you guys always ask for data but when you have it you always ignore it so do better and i hope you guys make the right choice i use my time thank you next speaker is olga perez please go ahead yes good evening chair lujan and board um having this is olga perez um having been raised in old town area has really brought an insight to and and knowledge what it is to be underserved and underrepresented um please keep this in mind when selecting the next board

041member it's very important to choose a person who understands the walk of life that a lot of these students in particular in the old town area who are innocently born into areas you know into this area that are underserved and represented and how these barriers and challenges become a part of them on how this poses challenges to them as students um i have personal knowledge on on many of these students who not you know who lack services and resources on home grounds in their respective neighborhoods especially old town but also lack the necessary support resources and guidance at schools for equitable opportunities for success um it's been really sad and i i apologize if i've insulted anyone and this is absolutely not my intent but for all of you to have thoughtful and meaningful conversation

042about your our next district board member without any disrespect to reim you know i fully support miss kayla powers thank you very much president those are all the public speakers at this time thank you mr siam and thank you for your comments this evening i am going to close the public hearing and open up the discussion for the appointment of a new board member staff recommends the board meets the education code 59 oh no sorry 5091 the 60-day requirement and appointed candidate to fill the vacancy on the board of trustees so i see that trustee murray has raised your her hand and trustee baker so i just wanted to apologize for jumping the gun but a couple of things one is we do public comment and the the written and the public are just some

043of the some of the things that um inform our decisions we've got several emails from several people and i've gotten some phone calls um in terms of stakeholders stakeholders or anybody who who has a stake in the district so students are are stakeholders but they're only one stakeholder teachers parents um well let's see what i've teachers staff members students parents families community members um the advocacy groups there's just so many people anybody who has an interest in in education is considered a stakeholder so when we're looking at when we look at who we're going to appoint i it's my it's my belief that we should be paying attention to all of our stakeholders and um and dream had the most diverse number are the most diverse groups of stakeholders um writing on her behalf so

044that's just what that's all i wanted to say for me did we lose our presence i i think the president got bumped off oh that's unfortunate uh so through the vice president um uh i i do want to make a clarification for for the public we did besides the written public comments get about i've got a folder with 31 emails and i will agree with uh trustee murray that ms nazar was the preferred candidate in most of those um is for my statement uh you know this is a difficult decision and it's good to have a difficult decision because it means we have three fine candidates and i think all three would be an asset to both the district and its students miss powers has her stem and management background dr shea has her understanding

045of educational management and volunteering and then there's ms nasra who's experienced the district safety committee the personnel commission pta sports leadership uh that experience with our district really outshines anyone else i can think of they would all add something very valuable to our board in my mind though i'm looking at what we as a board are most lacking and therefore we most need uh mr yano last week reminded us of the disparities between the east and west sides of our district and the need for equity um ms perez and our comments just now had a similar comment right now after the departure of trustee flores we only have one trustee from the east side that's vice president richardson and we have three on the west i believe that appointing an east side applicant will help

046our district's balance kayla powers lives in the downtown area and again i'm looking at what this board lacks as well as what it has ms powers is the applicant most unlike anyone else on the board right now and that's a good thing most importantly to me as a young educated professional she's probably most like the voter approved person she's replacing council member flores in her interview she recognized how our community's polarization makes it hard to build consensus and then she outlined her experience in building it i like her stem background i like the fact she's gotten student support that's really important and i love that she's the only applicant who signed on to our equity session on monday and stayed the whole time i'll be very happy to work with any of the three applicants

047and because the new trustee is immediately going to join me on the bylaws committee i hope they feel the same but right now my preference is for his powers we we actually don't know that i know i know i happen to know that rheem watched it on youtube so she was there for the entire thing and i don't know about dr shay but i do know ms nazra was there yes sorry my internet at home is crashed so luckily there's a hot spot i jumped on um so well good to see everyone again thank you trustee baker for your comments and thank you trustee murray for your comments sorry for the momentary departure trustee richardson or vice president richardson did you have anything that you would like to share basically not really we pretty much

048said a lot which is sort of deadlocked i think because we're firm on our candidate and uh like everybody said they're quality candidates um i uh believe that uh they all offer something and um you know they're above average as far as i'm concerned and i'm and i appreciate that the district is getting this type of attention uh because it's not just like equity there's a lot of things that we're dealing with and um we need to be able to handle everything and it's not easy and it's a lot of work and um you know i just don't see it's an average type of commitment it's a really a very involved commitment and um i don't know how people do it and have a full-time job i just don't and uh i thought dr uh

049shea would fill in pretty nicely um she has uh you know she's been in our district she has the background she understands she has another uh position as a junior college background i think we'll be able to tap on some of that and to me that's valuable um i just everybody each one of these candidates offers their own valuable um set of experiences and i just can't can't choose really honestly i'll just i don't thank you vice president richardson for sharing your thoughts as well trustee baker did you have something you wanted to share i was just going to say you know this isn't about a candidate but about about the process we i was an attendee in the board meetings back in 2014 when it only had four four trustees it did not go

050well there are there were times where there was a lack of quorum there were times where you know there were two two votes and nothing passes i don't you know as much as it would be nice to defer we can't operate for an extended length of time with four trustees so i i do encourage my fellow trustees to really make an effort to get someone to join us tonight yeah thank you trustee baker i would i in many ways it's you know this is one of those times where it's hard to be last because i have to echo many of the other sentiments i would strongly encourage us to make a decision this evening one possibility that was suggested was consider making the decision through forced ranking where we each push forward our number one

051and see how what what shakes out um but stepping back and just speaking to the quality of the candidates all three candidates offer a lot and we did get quite a few emails and there were lots of public comments both in the meetings and in person and you know it was one i'm grateful for the engagement of the public and two it really pushed us as trustees to step back and really think about the qualities of each of the candidates and the strengths that each of them bring and this isn't an easy decision but if i have to step back and think you know what is it that would really help complement our board bring elevate voices that maybe aren't as elevated as they should be i would have to say that my number one

052candidate would be kayla powers so so i was taking notes based on what i was able to catch and i am very sorry about the internet at my home um i am hearing that trustee baker and tret and myself are both our number one would be kayla i am hearing that trustee murray is her number one is rheem and then trust vice president richardson i know you were very transparent that it's a very challenging decision but you did mention dr shea and i don't want to put words in your mouth yes i i back her up i i nominate her i choose her and um so with the majority which is yourself and trustee baker that would be the the choice of the board correct party because it's it's two who have identified one the

053majority would be three of you all agreeing on one yes so at this moment yeah we would need three of us the majority of the board to agree upon one candidate oh okay that's what i was wondering mm-hmm so now what do we do what did you say about ranked church my candidate just only has one vote one of us has to make a move pat well well we don't because apparently they're not or two of you have to come over um president lujan what did you say about ranked choice i i would you like to expand upon that i'm starting to sorry i well the the way we lose her again ranked choice voting is um basically we list our first and second choices if we had four we might list our first second

054and third um i i think a fair way to do it is three points for everyone's first choice and two points for everyone's second choice and whoever has the most points at the end but uh i i would also like to suggest uh vice president richardson um you know i i would like to compel you to vote uh for my candidate uh i'd like to impress upon you the importance of having someone who will balance out our our uh geographic diversity will balance out our age diversity will balance will help enforce us in our equity uh focus so um i like i said i think she's most unlike any of us and and again that's very important to me and let's not forget to let our student trustee talk to um but also i'd like

055to impress on uh on uh trustee or vice president richardson that uh you know to look at one of the things that uh vice president richardson said on um last last week wednesday and thursday was that she valued the experience and the um the experience of of a candidate and what they what they did in times past with the district so i want her to look at i mean that to me is is very important somebody who's shown um you know shown the ability to collaborate with with many stakeholders in our district and to look at the letters that we received we didn't it wasn't just students we received letters from all of our stakeholders and um and i think that's that's important that i mean we're that we're respecting the many stakeholders in our

056district not just a few thank you trustee murray um i see our student trustee has raised her hand would you like to join us i just wanted to bring in a student perspective i understand there are many different perspectives out there but this is just one i've heard echoed from other students on campus um i would like to remind you the experiences many students have had previously with some candidates and um after all you guys you guys are working for students so i would like to remind you guys that um these this decision will be affecting the majority of the students and viewing previous experiences with some of these candidates does not seem very reflective of what um is best for the students so i just want to put that out there thank you for

057sharing um yes our other student trustee hi yes thank you um just to echo something that jessica said um earlier we were looking at the candidates and i think experience is great but fresh eyes are also great as well and bringing up what trustee baker said about how we need someone that the board lacks i think that kayla powers will be able to bring that perspective to this board especially because she is much younger than most of the trustees on this board um bringing in that youth perspective and that firsthand experience would really echo a lot of the things that jessica jessica and i personally fight for and a lot of the things that we have been trying to fight for this past year in this pandemic and for any other student who has been

058bringing up any concerns especially with slos i just think it's important that we have a new voice and someone who is able to bring in the perspectives that we don't really think about and i think that um her location of where she lives is also a really great aspect to bring in to consider and it's just really important that we center ourselves around the youth perspective and i think that is the exact perspective that she can bring because equity we could talk about that all night but if there's no action then what are we doing here but thank you thank you okay trustee baker you lowered your hand okay oh i did it was still up from prior okay and then trustee murray did you have a new thought because your hands is up oh

059i'm sorry uh no i i you know i i just like i would like to uh reiterate the uh the number of stakeholders in our district and we're all working all of us are working for our students working for for our students to have a better education so um okay so while my hot spot was being funky and i was having trouble communicating thank you trustee baker for jumping in i think one way to help us move forward uh would be to consider doing force ranking um where we note our one in two candidates and then assign three points for the number one and two points for the number twos and we just kind of see where that brings us unless someone wants to change their number one candidate okay i'm seeing a lot of

060not jumping at the opportunity okay okay so um at this point i guess can i i would be it would be wonderful if i could collect number one and number two candidates and then i can tally up and go from there yeah okay that's pretty well um well i think so uh president lujan are you looking for us to do a role of our preference or sure um we can do our role um i guess nalani can you help us with a roll call so all right no i guess not i can just roll call um trustee baker can you share your number one to number two powers and in that order okay k trustee murray um nezra and shay okay thank you vice president richardson uh shea and uh rheem okay and and my

061vote would be powers and shay oops all right so sorry i have to add by my account that would be nine for shea six for powers five for nazareth oh that's pretty cool how that works i i used to like uh the idea of rank quoting is that what we're doing now yes that's exactly what we're doing yeah okay i just clarify is that three points for your first choice and two points for your second choice yes that would be correct now this the trick is do we want to have a second round well well yes so that would be the trick because at this point shea has to try just to summarize to make sure i added correctly too um would be shay has nine room has five and power nazara has five and

062powers has six so then we could force rank again out of the top two okay is that necessary i mean i think we'd ultimately get to the same place but you can do it i'm okay with it if everyone else says this um definitely want shared decision making where are we again because i kind of got lost in the second round the whole the whole you know here's why i don't know that a second round would work because if the two people who voted with with the with ms powers as their first choice maintain and then dr shea is the second round choice of the of the other two trustees we'd be still tied to two so that's why i don't think we need a third i think you're right trustee baker i would agree

063the only other way that i mean we could because even if we change the points um we're probably going to end up in the same place the way that if we even if we change the weight of the points we're probably going to end up with a split board two and two and potentially a tied score so i i mean i i'm willing to leave this open for discussion but really because i don't want to belabor this i i fought my for my candidate she didn't get the support of the board but i would like to propose that we appoint dr charlene shea as our new trustee american oh so i have a first fighter trustee baker and the second by trustee murray may i have a roll call student trustee rangel cruz yes trustee

064baker yes christy murray yes vice president richardson yes and president lujan yes the motion carries and congratulations to dr shay and thank you to all of our candidates this was a very hard decision i'm sorry go ahead trustee baker i apologize oh no i was just agreeing with it with our president uh thank you to all for applying this was an incredibly difficult choice uh just because you're not my favorite candidate today uh doesn't mean i don't value you um and i look forward to working with dr shea hope she read her packet i did i won't disappoint you welcome we want to welcome you um and i echo the sentiments of all of our applicants and congratulations to all who made it to the second round and we're strongly considered you can see just

065based on the deliberation that um there was a struggle because all of our candidates were really highly qualified but congratulations to you dr shay um before we move on i would like to do the oath of office with you so if you wouldn't mind holding up your right hand and then just repeating after me um go ahead and unmute yourself too all right so i state your name i challenge you do you solemnly swear do something swear that i will support and defend i will support and defend the constitution of the united states the constitution of united states and the constitution of the state of california and the constitution of the state of california against all enemies against all enemies foreign and domestic foreign or domestic that i will bear true faith that i will

066bear truth faith and allegiance and allegiance to the constitution of the united states to the constitution of united states and the constitution of california and the constitution of california that i take this obligation that i take this obligation freely freely without any mental reservation without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion or purpose of evasion and that i will well and i will well and faithfully and faithfully discharge the duties discharge the duty upon which i am about to enter upon which i'm about to enter thank you congratulations thank you dr moore thank you everyone appreciate all your support and thank you miss power and thank you miss rheem for all your hard work thank you all okay i believe this brings us to pta council council remarks mr santa yeah we still have a

067whole meeting left i think he's muted i'm trying to unmute thank you i'm sorry i was taking in all of these festivities while muted so good evening president lujan trustees welcome um new trustee shay um i want to take this offer and uh madam superintendent and the um rest of the board cabinet and members in attendance i want to get once again congratulate and welcome trustee shea to the uh to the board and we the pta council looks forward to getting to know you and working with you during your time with us we hope it will be long and fruitful i want to reach out to both uh miss powers and miss nazra to miss powers i i want you to please stay involved that's what someone told me when i ran for the office

068of trustee back in the early 2000s please stay involved that's the way it works and that's the way you get your voice heard and that's the way it all it things you want come to fruition miss nazra is very well aware of this based on her involvement and i appreciate what she what she has done in this case too um um as is normally the situation this time of year with pta it is our election year our election time and our our our schools are all our boards are all having their elections or hopefully having their elections with with their slates of officers a few of our boards have been already pretty much um nominated and set to be voted upon there are still others that have not and we are hoping that we will

069have a full boards at all schools before the end of the school year the same goes with pta council we are still in the process of searching for people to be a part of the board um and hopefully by the next uh council meeting we'll have people in place for some of the positions um other than that that ends my report for this evening thank you very much mr santa okay staff association representative remarks the south san francisco federation of adult educators do we have anyone here this evening to speak on their behalf okay i'm going to jump on over to south san francisco classroom teachers association mr yano good evening superintendent president lujan board members cabinet and school community and congratulations and welcome to dr shay uh before i start my remarks i just

070want to say how wonderful it was to hear from our two student um members of the of the board they're very as a teacher i'm just very proud to see them to hear them uh speak at meetings they they do us proud okay i am pleased to say that today our bargaining team and the district's bargaining team signed a tentative agreement while in my view it is not perfect it does provide a standard for the return to in-person instruction for many of our elementary school students to their classroom in classrooms in over a year safety measures will be in place no student will lose instruction from the teacher they have grown accustomed to in the morning and students families will have the choice of students staying home in the afternoon i want to thank the

071district team headed by dr spalding for working with our bargaining team so diligently and i want to thank and congratulate our bargaining team for hammering out the very best agreement that they could our members will be receiving copies of the tentative agreement and we will be having a town hall meeting to discuss the agreement on april 7th this agreement provides for appropriate ventilation for a measure of safety during the pandemic we have been discussing ventilation since the beginning of this pandemic and since this is an airborne disease the importance of ventilation cannot be overstressed the likelihood of getting the virus from the air is many times greater than picking it up from a surface last week the board authorized the purchase of over half a million dollars worth of uvc lights for sanitation of rooms

072mr o assures me that they work against covid and that it was worth the expenditure as they will also be useful during flu season probably flea season too or any other outbreak of disease i certainly hope that the board will commit that much money or more to ventilation for our schools every room that does not have air force through it needs some form of air filtration or purification i know that some sites have purchased air purifiers as has the district please consider purchasing as many air purifiers as needed so that all of our rooms can be used safely for the past four years the air quality in our rooms has been an issue during fire season these air purifiers will provide a learning environment that is safe and healthy for the students and the adults

073in our classrooms year round spring is here and with it a spirit of renewal nahu's persian new year was celebrated last week we are entering the season where easter is celebrated and jews around the world will be conducting the passover seder on saturday night in this celebration we tell the story of the exodus the flight from egypt every year jews are reminded that once we were slaves and we gained our freedom but we also remind ourselves that as long as one person is in bondage or oppressed in the world none of us is truly free and that it is the duty of each of us to fight against oppression in that spirit i would like to introduce the south san francisco classroom teachers association human rights chair katrina ellis good evening uh president lujan and

074the rest of the board i think you'll you'll enjoy that you can uh see me i've spoken very several times in the in recent weeks um but today i'm going to share the letter that president yano and i have um put together in response to anti-asian violence and discrimination so if it pleases the board i will now read to you this letter we the members of the south san francisco classroom teachers association are disturbed and appalled at the recent rise in anti-asian racism in our community and nationwide it is understandable to call these acts unspeakable but it is the responsibility of those who have a platform to find the words so that these expressions of hate cannot hide under a blanket of polite discourse one year ago we saw a rise in hate crimes when

075the pandemic began and asians were blamed for causing coven 19. this racist scapegoating was demonstrated at the highest levels of our government including the office of the presidency a year later nothing has changed rather incidents and crimes have spiked substantially in recent weeks especially evident from the string of unprovoked and violent attacks against elderly asian americans and pacific islanders these are not isolated incidents nor are they unique asian americans have been targeted and physically and verbally attacked throughout us history remember vincent chin in 1982 27 year old chin was neither the first nor the last consider the page act of 1875 banning chinese women immigrants and its expansion into the chinese exclusion act of 1882 the japanese internment the u.s occupation and treatment of native hawaiians the chinese massacre of 1871 in los angeles one

076of the largest mass lynchings in american history our own bay area schools segregated chinese japanese and korean students from white children since the moment asian and pacific islander families arrived on our shores they had been marginalized and victimized when aapi americans responded with undeniable examples of asian excellence white americans held some of them up as a model minority as an example of how the others should act if they want to be accepted in america this myth is false the model minority myth hurts our communities and all asian american and pacific islanders model or not beyond the fact that asian americans encompasses more than an entire continent of beautifully diverse peoples the shroud of this positive myth silences and invisibilizes our students educators and families who are oppressed by the very system that claims to celebrate

077them just in the past year the bay area has been home to the following acts of hatred and systemic racism a thai american man murdered in san francisco for simply walking yik huang an 88 year old woman beaten by her own cane in san francisco young a 64 year old woman robbed of lunar new year cash in san jose a 70 year old grandmother assaulted and robbed in oakland angelo quinto a 30 year old excuse me 30 year old filipino american veteran murdered by police in antioch they knelt on his neck for five minutes in response to his mental health crisis make no mistake treating these horrific acts of violence as singular examples of hatred ignores the larger systemic issues that intentionally relegate asian americans to the margins these include the high unemployment and poverty

078rates within aai communities and the school-to-prison to deportation pipeline of young aapi men thanks to colonialism our filipino community in california is also disproportionately at the front lines of the pandemic we must loudly speak up and stand up to these acts of hate we also must acknowledge the fear and uncertainty experienced by many members of our communities now more than ever many in asian american communities are fearful of speaking up and being targeted we as educators must be united in their defense and refuse to tolerate any violence or hostile derogatory or negative attitudes towards our aapi students families staff or administration we implore our educators and community members to educate themselves through the resources listed on cta president boyd's statement especially those on how to combat coronavirus racism in our classrooms words however are not

079enough listening is not enough reading is not enough listening and reading are passive justice can only be achieved through action here are just a few examples of how south san francisco can work toward justice employ aapi curated resources to train anti-violence and volunteer as activists apply or encourage aapi or other bi-poc colleagues to apply for the cta ethnics ethnic minority early identification and development e-m-e-i-d program which attempts to expand the leadership role of members of color the next deadline to apply is april 9th encourage more aapi and other bypac members in ssf cta to become site representatives and to run for positions on the executive council pressure school and district hiring committees to employ more staff of color our significantly white teacher body does not reflect the diversity of our community demand that the ssf

080ssf city council aggressively pursue constructing low-income housing and seriously study eliminating single-family zoning doing so will ensure housing security for our most full vulnerable committee communities and combat climate change urge our ssf usd school board to heed community calls to make lunar new year officially a school holiday not merely a staff professional development day work with the ssf usd school board to allow student trustees who represent a largely aapi student body to have more say in board decisions rather than just an honorary vote after all students are the largest group impacted by these policies it is our responsibility as educators to commit to anti-racist and pro-equality equity and justice practices we have the platform and the relative privilege to call attention to and combat injustice we must use them within and beyond our classrooms we

081must name denounce and deliberately act against every instance of racism join us the members of the ssf cta in this fight together to raise awareness to commit to this fight and to make a clear declaration that we will not tolerate the loss of one more life thank you very much thank you for your comments this evening okay i believe this brings us to california school employee association chapter 1997 miss malfoy good evening president lujan and honorable trustees cabinet superintendent and our newly appointed trustee shea welcome look forward to working with you as well i don't have much to report we are going to officially ratify our successor agreement tomorrow i have all positive votes come in thus far so i don't see a problem with that passing unanimously and again welcome to dr shay i

082hope uh incoming forthcoming board meetings will bring um more respect and stability from our audience for our trustees thank you that's all i have to say tonight thank you thank you very much miss mafadi okay our next section of the meeting this evening is personal commission thank you president there is nothing to report personal commission i gave my report last time i will update on at the next board meeting the next time of the next meeting of personal commission thank you thank you dr spalding all righty this brings us to items from the board announcements anything on the board calendar or board committee reports no just an official welcome to dr shane yes certainly welcome dr shay there is one item i did want to announce briefly specifically and focused toward our graduating seniors there's

083a the cultural arts commission is doing their annual youth scholarship application they're awarding up to three scholarships for a total of up to three thousand dollars uh to south san francisco unified school district graduating high school seniors who have shown achievement in the arts and plan to continue in the study of art applications are due april 12th and they would be submitted to ursi santos at with the city of south san francisco and vice president richardson i don't know what happened to my little hand so i have to use my hand and did it right i wanted to share this shout out to our middle college um that we we just got word that we our students were chosen uh let's see this one right here there you have it yes each year students in

084our middle college 12th grade governing class government class participated statewide c-span student cam documentary a competition student cam is a c-span annual national video documentary competition that encourages students to think critically about issues that affect our communities and our nation this year out of 2300 documentary entries one of our middle college student groups consisted of arlen mendez elko davina moreno from elko and italia molina at south san francisco high school were part of the 150 documentaries selected to receive honorable mention and to have their film link on the c-span student cam webpage they were also awarded a cash prize of 250 dollars and this is the great work that they're doing and the name of the link i suppose you go to gotta go to c-span the missing and murdered indigenous women of a women

085epidemic so i urge you all to look into that and one more great news exciting news for el camino i mean excuse me skyline elementary school alternate rush uh during uh the library council meeting skyline elementary shared that they had been selected by scholastic magazine as a poster school in their advertisement about outdoor book fairs and pictures from their outdoor book library back in october according to scholastic magazine they were one of the few schools in the bay area to hold such an event here's oh and they provide a link there's a link on the peach jar and i just wanted to share this pride in our schools and uh great going guys thank you that's all i have to report thank you vice president richardson trustee murray i see your hand popped up um

086yeah i just wanted to remind people that we still have the general plan committee still has um a few more um community conversations and and the information is on the um the shape ssf.com but there are three more meetings march 25th from 6 to 7 30 march 29th from 6 to 7 30 and march 31st from 6 to 7 30. so um i encourage everybody to to join in one of the meetings and uh if not all and share their their voices thank you trustee murray okay and i believe this brings us to the superintendent's report but dr moore i do want to do a time check because i don't want to put a forced time rush on on you or our student trustees we do need to take a break at 8 30 does

087that seem feasible or should we break now to ensure that there's enough time i don't have very much i don't know about our student trustee so i'll defer to them if they have a lot then i think we should go ahead and take a break i have a fairly short report so i have a minimum one as well okay thank you for that i appreciate all your insights and help with that so dr moore and our student trustees i turn it over to you thank you so today we learned california will be opening up the vaccine eligibility to people 50 and older on april 1st and to everyone 16 and older on april 15th the governor announced that early today the second item i'm not sure if i informed our community that we received 145

088000 grant from the community equity collaborative to expand our learning hubs and that happened a few weeks back and we have been busily working to expand and my last item i just wanted our community to know that we will soon initiate our first meeting with our community to obtain community input from all of our stakeholders for the 2122 local control accountability plan it's basically our plan for what we're we're going to do to support students and their learning provide support to our teachers and to strengthen our connection and engagement with our families first meeting is scheduled for april 1st from six o'clock to eight o'clock p.m and we emailed the entire community earlier today the flyer and we know that needs have changed since the pandemic hit so we are looking forward to having a

089full house so we can share what we believe the needs are thank you so much i will now turn it over tonight first we'll have jessica rangel cruz go first asb president south san francisco high school thank you my report will be fairly short so this is good i guess um good evening president lujan superintendent dr moore board of trustees and those of you from watching home my name is jessica rangel cruz and i am the student trustee for this semester at south san francisco high school and the asb president i hope everyone is having a great weekend and a great evening and staying safe especially as we were nearing spring break congratulations and welcome dr shea i look forward to working with you in the future all right last week we had our first

091to abby vereno asb president el camino high school good evening board members and audience happy march and welcome trustee shea just like what dr moore said my name is abigail verino and i'm a junior serving as the asb president at el camino high school and tonight i have a fairly short report as well so no need to worry about the time check or anything um i would just like to give a special shout out to our senior officers because yesterday march 24th was our senior sunrise and this event was a huge success and the students of the class of 2021 were able to attend and had a great time i just want to shout out our officers because they've been working on this event for over four months and typically we have sunrise at the

092beginning of the year back in august so you may know like that was over half a year ago but starting off with our senior class president sarah ruiz our senior class vice president isaiah dela rosa senior secretary anthony nguyen and senior treasurer veronica beltran i would just like to highlight their work and their efforts in ensuring that their entire class is able to make up for all that time loss and to ensure that they all get to have one last hurrah before they move on to college having that community and having that bond formed with one another is so important and they have all strived to work on that in this one event and i'm so excited to see where they all continue to go after senior year um these student leaders worked on this

093event for over three months like i had mentioned and at this event we had a lot of activities we had photo back drops and overall just a lot of spirit and we had a big kahoot where we were able to give away three of our el camino hoodies to the three winners and we had a fun karaoke session where three of our senior students performed and it was overall a great time um it was just a really great event and i just like to highlight the joy in our community in this time where there is a lot of hate going on in our world and you know small wins like this really will build us up and make us more excited for the future of when we finally get to go back to school so

094thank you again that was my mini report and yeah thank you so much thank you very much that concludes my report president luhan thank you dr moore and thank you to our student trustees seeing that it is 8 29 and we're right up on that um space to take a 10 minute break i'd love to suggest we take a 10-minute break and reconvene at 8 39. hmm good evening everyone let's see are we all back all right i think we're all okie dokie um sorry my thought my home internet came back and it did not so switching back to a hot spot okay i believe this brings us to the communications portion of this evening um public comments may be submitted in advance uh of the meeting through the bitly length um beginning on monday

095and they are accepted up until 3 p.m today these comments are read by all board members in advance of the meeting and they are placed on the district's website under the 2021 board meetings webpage prior to the meeting to comment during the meeting we will provide direction shortly just a special note that the meeting is recorded individuals may address the board concerning items concerning concerning school business not on the agenda but public comment cannot be acted upon or discussed by the board unless placed on the agenda at a subsequent meeting in accordance with the law the brown act the board may request staff to respond orally at the meeting or in writing at a future term and mr siam i shall turn it over to you thank you again president um we'll go ahead and

096read the public speaking instructions again good evening as folks uh raise their hand i'll be calling on speakers during public comments in random order to our attendees if you would like to speak please use the raise hand feature on the zoom meeting platform now attendees that have called in can dial star nine to raise their hand speakers will have three minutes to give the remarks and you will hear a tone when your time begins when 30 seconds remain and when time has expired once time is expired you will we will move to the next speaker um uh first speaker is josh let me get the timer ready okay please go ahead oh i'm sorry give me one moment okay please go ahead josh please go ahead okay we'll try and come back again speaker is

097rachel estrada please go ahead all right hi can you hear me yes please go ahead hi everyone my name is rachel and i'm a first grade teacher in your district today our bargaining team negotiated and reached a tentative agreement about returning to in-person instruction and while i'm sure there were some wins there is a huge loss for district teachers who are also parents for all of you here tonight please listen the tentative agreement states that if teachers have children younger than five and cannot return to in-person instruction due to child care demands their work day will be cut by two hours each day it states that we will have an unpaid afternoon this is not equitable this is not fair and this is very insulting to hard working teaching parents middle and high school teachers

098who have young children aren't given this ultimatum they aren't even asked to come back these two hours a day for six weeks equals 48 hours of paid time that i will lose many of my colleagues and i have basically pieced together a complicated and crazy schedule to make sure that our own children have been cared for and supervised during distance learning my children both under 3 have not been in daycare or preschool due to the pandemic and now due to smaller class sizes they will not be enrolled until summer while i have figured out care for my children for my live instruction time coming up with yet another plan for the afternoon is near impossible they nap at one which is perfect for my flex time in small groups i cannot leave my young children

099home alone though my colleagues cannot leave their children home alone the tentative agreement is punishing us for not being able to do so let us continue to work our afternoons let us meet our small groups provide one-on-one instruction and support let us be available to parents and families let us plan telling teaching parents that since we can't come in that we won't be getting paid is not equitable as i said this would also be extremely insulting i encourage the bargaining team to go back to the bargaining table i encourage the board to not agree to this this is not okay we're better than this treat us better than this please thank you for your time thank you next speaker is nicole stark please go ahead hello sorry um so i agree with rachel um i

100also work as a kindergarten teacher at the same school that she does and i appreciate the flexibility that the district is trying to give for the parents to have distance learning at in and in person learning because myself i am a parent of a nine-year-old and a seven-year-old but they do not attend the same district that i teach at because i live across the bay and so i want to return to my students and i want to be there for them however i am very concerned with what i'm supposed to do with my nine-year-old and my seven-year-old because their district has not given us a plan as to what they're going to do for their schooling as of april 19th and so i am in the dilemma as my parent my my father does not

101uh he does not qualify for the vaccine because he is 63 and so he's not able to get that and he's my only child care and so i think that we need to allow the flexibility for people who have older children but don't have the opportunity to give them a child care if if that's the case no you cannot say something caitlin sorry um and so i just want you guys to think about that is an option for parents that aren't in the district whose kids aren't allowed to go back in person as of right now and please be flexible with us who do want to go back or are questioning it but can't so thank you very much for your time and i appreciate it um also i was really like to wonder what

102it will look like if you go back in classroom and it looks like on distance learning because i wouldn't want to if i was safe distance have to just be ignored while there's kids in the class thank you very much thank you next speaker is josh we'll try one more time okay josh your microphone just it's not working we can't hear you okay he took his hand down i don't know president lujan if you want to go ahead and move on and maybe josh can write whatever feedback or comments he wanted to share josh i would welcome you to email the board um we do read all communications just in the interest of transparency those who have emailed the board our protocol is only the board president will respond and because our decisions and discussions

103need to happen in the public purview we do read the communication but we won't be able to respond it's similar in to public comment in that way but we are open to you communicating with us in that way okay so that brings us so i want to thank our speakers for this evening and this transitions us to the presentations portion of the meeting knowing that we have students on the call there was a suggestion of potentially switching the order of the presentations but we're not at the review of agenda so i do want to ask my fellow trustees if we are okay switching the order of the um presentations i'd be fine except do we have any elementary school students on for the other presentation that would be my concern yes i know if they're

104younger and have an earlier bedtime principal mclaughlin do you have do you know if you have any elementary students who are on the call this evening no i don't see any i don't see any of the participants okay perfect thank you so much i'm okay with switching okay vice president richardson and trustee murray are you also in support and dr shay or trusty shea are we all in support of that switching the order yes thank you okay seeing nods yeses and or hearing yeses and and agreement thumbs ups too okie dokie so seeing that we switched the order our first presentation this evening will be an update on the south san francisco high school mascot principal kevin asbr will provide to the board an update from the south san francisco high school mascot committee on

105the process to potentially change the site's mascot and and logos and share the committee's recommendations thank you president lujan and board of trustee members and cabinet and south city community i have three additional committee members with me this evening mr aaron boyd teacher video art teacher and two students junior perimante and jason quang and in in light of trying to be um efficient with time we created a well not we um mr boyd and some students on the committee created a video giving an update on where we are so mr boyd are you able to share your screen and put the video on yeah can everybody see that yes yeah okay yes here we go pay attention everybody in february 2020 the decision was made to replace our school logo some were happy some were

106sad but a few of us decided to use this as an opportunity to bring our school community together we spent about a year did a bunch of research and found many examples of positive outcomes to inspire us to stay positive and keep moving forward we are warriors and we are made to keep fighting the good fight so we put together a plan let's have our school community choose the direction of our new brand and we will honor that by working side by side with the best graphic designers in the world to design the most amazing warrior brand notice how i said brand instead of logo that's on purpose we decided that why replace one logo with another logo when we can design a whole new brand that includes six different logos bold blue and white

107colors our very own custom typography all new school apparel sports uniforms building murals street flags and much much more this was an amazing opportunity for not just a new logo but for a whole new warrior identity a new warrior that honors our past and inspires our future an identity that inspires all of the qualities of a true warrior that represents our diverse community a warrior exists in all cultures with stories and legends of adversity and triumph a warrior is a representative of a community that is nourished embraced celebrated and protected a warrior will always fight for what is right so when it came time to find out what our community chose overwhelmingly it was no surprise that we as a school community chose a brand that was based around an ancient yet modern warrior a

108look that resembles a spartan or trojan but is its own unique identity simply put we chose to be an original south city warrior but as we said before we weren't going to simply replace one logo for another no we in collaboration with a world-renowned graphic artist company designed an entire brand which centers around our new and original warrior image but includes logos with the sc letters a shield custom fonts and much much more simply put since we are a diverse group at south city we decided to have a diverse logo collection that everyone could be excited about our survey results showed that an overwhelming majority chose a spartan and trojan type warrior as our main logo theme the overwhelming second choice was to have an object such as a shield or sword and finally another

109option chosen many times was simply having letters so what did we do we decided to design all of those yes our brand officially includes six approved logos not just one each designed to be unique and fit as many aesthetic tastes as possible our logos are as diverse as our students and we are proud of that in fact our diversity is what has inspired us through this entire journey so as you think about what makes for the best representation for our school remember that our inspiration has come from our celebration of our diversity combined with the one thing that unites us all we are all warriors so at this time let's take a look at what we call our branding book and go through each element let's take a look at not our new logo but

110our all new warrior brand well as you can see we have designed not one but six different officially approved logos all are equal in school representation and all can be used equally the first top left primary logo is the same theme that drives all of the rest of the logos and features a brand new original warrior custom designed for south city our logo to the right in the top middle is our primary word mark for which the text underneath the word warriors can be customized for any club class program or group on campus next our secondary word mark is again customizable that can feature any one of our different athletic teams next we have our initial mark that is made out of an original customized type font and designed for those who just want to

111go old school this is unique to south city high and one of a kind this can be used on apparel sport jerseys letterheads stickers just about anywhere you can imagine next we have our circle mark for those who just want an image similar to our past logo yet modernized and in a design that fits our overall brand finally we have our object mark that can fit any club group team or school organization and will look great on fields walls and even on apparel our approved colors have not changed we have been the classic blue and white for over a hundred years and we will remain blue and white for the next hundred but we took this opportunity to polish up the colors and streamline them to be versatile and able to be used in a

112variety of applications such as on apparel online on facilities on school literature and more our updated blue is now available in all the different color formats so we can maintain a consistent color scheme no matter who uses it it might be officially called royal blue but we just call it south city blue here we have our various different approved colors with various backgrounds as you can see we have the ability to change each of our six logo backgrounds which create even more diversity and choice depending on the background of the material we can customize any of our logos to match perfectly sometimes situations arise when you are limited in how many colors you can use for a particular logo so we designed approved primary as well as secondary color variations to fit any conceivable situation

113we've also included an even more graphically rich logo enhancement where our logo feels as if it is live and coming off the screen page or uniform similar to our previous color variations we have designed single color logos for yet even more diversity in choice if you add together the many different variations of our six logos you'll get over a hundred different logo choices to choose from now that is diversity that fits south city high next we are using our very original and unique typography that will be available for all groups clubs teams classes and organizations to use that will immediately identify that group as part of our greater school brand having our own font will help to create a unity among all of our different programs and tie us all together as one and finally

114our brand new online and on-campus student stores will feature all of our amazing logos on a wide array of apparel fan gear student supplies and more merchandise than we've ever had available with hundreds of local and apparel combinations we have created an opportunity for everyone to find their unique style and still look like a south city warrior and represent their school with style and pride the online store will not only be an amazing source of south city gear but clubs teams and school organizations can put together their own apparel or merchandise using any of our various logo and custom name variations they can even sell them and earn much sought after club funding all purchases from the student store will directly benefit our school clubs sports and activities so that will conclude our presentation of

115our new brand proposal we hope you will approve our new brand and help support us as we move forward with the official school community unveiling of our new warrior brand we appreciate the opportunity and thank the board and cabinet for your time and consideration thank you so much for that for the video and for all your hard work to prepare for this presentation i see trustee baker has raised his hand trustee baker thank you uh one i want to myself on the waiting list for one of those polos um two um you know i think it's not the board's choi board's role here to debate design choices just to make sure that this was student-led and that it doesn't have anything that doesn't conflict with policy it looks good good in terms of policy um

116can someone talk about the level of student involvement in in selecting these new this new branding i should say yeah i'm i'm i'm here just to push a button and play a video so we have a couple students here uh junior petamonte and jason kwong so if one of those guys wants to answer all your questions i'm sure they're more than capable of doing that hi trustee baker you asked about the student involvement right um so we sent out a poll of about 500 response responses were students and our committee is actually mostly made up of students it's two-thirds students fantastic thank you vice president richardson thank you um now my understanding we the did i count nine designs or logos that can be used in the various attire six it was six okay and

117do some of them have the silver that i hear the silver is a choice on some of them because i i think it's pretty cool actually i love the silver we can have silver we can have black we can have all your favorite colors vice president richardson everything is customizable and it's going to be amazing i i just love the blue i'm happy that they kept the blue and uh i i'm i'm kind of yeah i kind of like it yes i mean you know um great the the students chose um decent um logo and um i love the colors so i'm i'm happy with them but only thing is on some of them it just says sc i was wondering if we could put like warriors or and too many of them i didn't

118see the warrior uh name on the bottom of the the two um letters that you know south city i don't know i just thought maybe south city high schools or something and warriors somewhere in that one with the shields that one of the six ones they don't appear to have anything else other than the sc and i would just uh comment that the nice thing about the six different options is someone who doesn't want that wants to have warriors in the in the brand um there's plenty of options there but for those who want to just have maybe the shield with the sc that's an option as well okay so it just it gives all of our clubs all of our activities a variety of choices from which they can choose um and i think

119that's that's the beauty of of having a a logo uh a branding logo that's not just one but multiple options oh okay well that's it's pretty flexible okay that's all thank you principal aspra for the explanation and thank you vice president richardson for your questions trustee murray i see your hand went up and then trustee shea i see your hand went up after i just wanted to thank the students and and staff that was an amazing presentation i loved it and i loved the idea i think that it's a great idea and and when the time comes i will buy a salsity uh hoodie even though i graduated from el camino but i'll buy one and i'll wear it no i i think it's a great idea i think you guys did an excellent job

120and i love the consideration that you put into it and not wanting to choose another logo and um good job good job very happy thank you trustee murray trusty shay thank you i admire the process you get to this outcome i could get all the students and could potentially i did not hear is faculty teachers and principals do they also have a feedback through your survey okay wonderful that it this process is it's everyone is involved and i hear you say it's 500 students that is that something like that it was just 500 people in total it came from like majority of our community um there was some students mainly students uh some alumni we also had teachers as well wonderful so it's even broader than than the just south uh south city high school

121that's sc right so i admire that process and then the the brand the brand concept is very smart so instead of single logo you got a bunch of the logo and it's a brain so that that thinking is very innovative so i admire those um that thinking so thank you for the great presentation and then the hard work behind the scene appreciate that thank you trusty shea like my fellow trustees i must echo that i am impressed with the community engagement and the hard work to engage members of community and elevate voices particularly this school year as as we have navigated a very unusual school year so i want to commend students and staff for your efforts to gather input take the input and come up with a very innovative way to brand south san

122francisco high school and like trustee baker stated i would say that it is not the role of the board to pause on this i think that a lot of hard work on this on the part of students and staff has gone into this and i'm very impressed and grateful for the presentation this evening okay i believe this brings us to our next presentation this evening teaching and learning presentation on from los cerritos elementary school principal mclaughlin will share with the board educational priorities and programs at los cerritos elementary school i'm sorry there is a raised hand i missed sorry because i have to toggle between two screens trustee rangel cruz i am so sorry would you like to speak uh yes just a quick question um what is the plan for the future after this

123presentation what do you plan on doing so um trustee rengel cruz was that directed at the at the board members or was that for the committee members the committee specifically oh okay um maybe uh principal asbr can take that sure uh our next phase is um to meet with varsity brands and the full committee uh to do any kind of tweaking of the the images um that that will finalize those six images i don't have it in front of me but if if you notice the s and the c where the s and the c came together there was like a little gap like a little triangle of space and a couple people have talked about on the committee would that be a possibility that we could close that in and so we're going to

124meet with the artist to do any little tweaking of uh the images once those are finalized uh then we will work with varsity brands to begin the the actual branding process and start that branding on campus all right i have one more question um you guys in your presentation you mentioned there was an overwhelming um vote for the trojan um was that specifically from the general student population because there are about uh 1 300 students and the total of responses you received were 500 so you know how many exactly were from students um yeah i don't have the exact number um what i can tell you is we did two surveys back in late spring early summer for probably about a total of a month and we sent them out to all social media accounts

125that that we could alumni accounts and so we have a mixture of alumni community members students faculty and staff so i don't have the the exact number of how many students actually participated and took the survey but we have roughly 500 respondents after sending it out twice student trustee ring hell cruise does that address the questions you have this evening okay thank you vice president richardson i saw your hand pop back up thank you doc just quickly do we have to trademark this uh at all uh what if somebody's already using this and then you know we just have to start over again so we're using a company called varsity brands and varsity brands yes they will they will uh with our contract with varsity brands they're going to trademark everything um and i i

126think including the font a specific font um so everything will be legal trademarked um yeah so it's it's a it's a really um uh it's a really good partnership that we have with varsity brands they're taking care of all those those details that might come up thank you to the south san francisco high school student staff for uh addressing our our questions and and the follow-up questions that surfaced i'm going to make sure and do a quick check to make sure there are no other questions okay so thank you i mean we have a vote later on this yes we do in the action portion of the meeting this evening so thank you for joining us this evening i think it's having us our pleasure thank you and thank you for all your preparation for

127the the presentation this evening okay now i'm going to transition over to the teaching and learning presentation for los cerritos elementary school and i already did the intro so i'm going to turn it over to mr irish good evening president lujan members of the board with us this evening as we heard earlier our principal of los cerritos elementary principal mclaughlin's here to share all the great happenings that are going on in teaching and learning at lc good evening principal mclaughlin thank you um before i start my presentation i have a couple of certificates that i'd like to give out um otherwise i'll forget it once i start doing the the presentation i know i'm going to forget it so i don't want to do that because we have some wonderful volunteers at los cerritos and

128the first one is uh juliana vasquez who was levi lara's mother and so she's been wonderful she is both the co-president of our school site council and elac group and she is also on the pta i also have miss veronica obey obey dale and she is on our elap and site council group um we have nancy ramirez she is on the pta and our school site council elac group and angelica perodota um the elac and school site council group and linda tang she is on our elix site council group so thank you i will give these to the the parents and uh we couldn't it in no other year has it been more pronounced how schools cannot operate without parent support i mean this is like a banner year for that statement um okay so

129now i will start my presentation okay just a second here okay [Music] all right okay good evening board of trustees excuse me principal mclaughlin we can see uh your notes oh okay okay thank you sorry to interrupt bye okay sorry about that okay um let me okay so all right so thank you um um board of trustees um dr moore lo cerritos community thank you los cerritos community and south san francisco community my name is beth mclaughlin and i am the principal of los cerritos elementary school and this is though where the smallest school this is quite a gem we have here um lo cerritos has been working on all three lcap goals but we've been focusing on lcap goal three student parent and community engagement lo cerritos has been focusing on the car portion

130of this the community the assessment and the relationships and funnily enough um that might not be a correct word there um the the theme for low cerritos this year has been on care and wait a minute okay uncare and what that means is that we knew that this was going to be a tough year for parents for students for um for the teachers so we stopped took a breath and decided found ways that we could care for each other this started with welcome back baskets for the teachers at the beginning of the year this started with tasty treats this started um in around christmas time we had gift certificates for needy family donated by volunteer organizations and staff we also had presents given for needy families we had check-ins with teachers to see how they

131were doing we had check-ins with families to see how they were doing and this was all before we had the care solace we have been caring for each other to make sure that we're all well cared for and we can do our jobs low cerritos has a pta we also have our elac and site council group that's combined together additionally los cerritos has a group called the parent forum and this group was created the beginning of the year to help parents with distance learning one parent shared that he felt very uncomfortable with distance learning but he knew he had to step up he felt it was very difficult for him to balance his work life his children's school work life and free time with the family one of them was always suffering and so it

132was good that we all got together um as as parents and we talked about it um one thing that los cerritos has has done is we have a lot of very fun activities the first one is our halloween drive and the second one is our winter concert every year los cerritos has a winter concert at south san francisco high school we obviously couldn't do that so we did a low key one on zoom um dr moore and several board of trustee members were there and we really thank you for coming um and i'm going to play a couple a little bit of them [Music] um i'm a steampunk person and i'm the principal of cerritos and we want to do something special for los cerritos community because the kids are stuck at home so much

133and so we came up with a very safe way that the students and parents could be a part of this last time we saw most of us during the registration um tech pickup in mid-august so almost two months almost two months now we haven't seen them you're so good to me i'm understanding so i'm the one that much want to keep everyone safe but you know we also miss you know being around kids okay let me get back here okay hold on one quick second here um one thing that that in the next video that you will see for our christmas concert is a second grade teacher taught her students how to perform instruments um instruments with the nutcracker music it's quite an incredible video wow [Music] okay let me go back to the presentation

134almost there sorry okay um i want to talk to you about the data that we have used at low cerritos this year literally is our new assessment where we are recording and finding the reading level of students as you can see almost all grades improved with at or above grade level or they also and not or and additionally approaching and below decreased so we were definitely moving in the right direction um except you can see except for third grade but as soon as we had this data the third grade team got together and now there is a third grade reading group you don't see first and kindergarten on here because we have found that the literally online format did not work well for first in kindergarten we did do the assessments but they it was

135all over the map and so the data wasn't worth sharing and it just wasn't verifiable for us um one thing i want to talk about here is when we see data at low cerritos what we do is we think of if there's some gap we fix it we form a form of intervention second grade um this year at the i want to give a big shout out to the second grade um team for denise steffy our reading specialist and for our bilingual aides from the beginning of the school year they knew that their students were struggling with reading and struggling with word work or phonemic awareness and they got together they formed groups every second grader had the opportunity to come in afternoon from 1 30 to 2 30 for word work uh well the

136word work was from 130 to 2. if the student was also below grade level grade level in reading they also received small reading group instruction all of this is online the students were reassessed every four to six weeks and new groups were formed this came out of last year where the first grade team noticed that there was a reading deficit with their first graders and so this year the same first grade teachers and um the bilingual aides and miss steffy formed also reading groups and this year first grade also introduced word work with it kindergarten is also been doing word work last year and they are doing this this year too it's a little bit tricky to get these younger kids to come on at a different time and a different length but first kinder

137and second have made it work and i am just so incredibly proud of them now you might think that since distance learning is at home that the tenants would be perfect it would be 100 percent that is not the case um lo cerrito had four chronic attendance issues students there there's more than that but the top 40 um and i knew that if i could get them into the school because half of our staff is working at the school um anyway and so they could come over to the learning hubs and chip in i knew their attendance would improve and it has already we've noticed from we started learning hubs mid-january and from december to the end of february we've already noticed over a one percent increase in attendance um and i'm sure it's even

138higher now as i said before um los cerritos is the smallest school in the district but it also has a lot of socio-emotional needs a lot of special education needs a lot of learning needs and so we needed to get the kids in learning hub and i am just so grateful that the real program has two learning hubs and the boys and girls have one learning hub with our low cerrito students it is over at south san francisco high school thank you south san francisco high school for for um hosting them and we also have two staffed low cerritos learning heads and it's been made a huge difference it makes a difference because the younger kids have an easy time to easier time getting online it makes a difference because the reason they weren't able

139to get online previously or do the homework is because their parents weren't or grandparents that they were with their caregivers weren't comfortable with the technology or they weren't very comfortable in english now we have you know a support in english we have support with work we have support with um getting on the technology and they get to see each other be together laugh together play together and it's made a huge huge difference in their lives the last thing i want to say is it is amazing how the los rita staff has moved from having computer as an accessory to an essential tool the staff both classified and certificated have stepped up in such incredible ways um i've known this staff for four years because i've worked at low cerritos for four years previously i was

140the english learner tosa um teacher on special assignment um and even though i know the staff they blew me away with their creativity with their perseverance with with finding another way um trying something getting frustrated but trying something else again and finding more resources helping each other um when we got frustrated with the technology or or got frustrated with with how something wasn't quite working right we missed something in our teaching i i am lucky beyond words to be the principal of this school with this staff and i just want to say thank you to the los cerritos staff but i also um also want to give a big shout out similar to what miss sterner said is thank you to to the district office personnel and um the board and the cabinet for supporting

141los cerritos with the technology with the programs with the trainings that we had we could call up you know someone at the district office and get extra help it's made a huge huge difference and um and i just want to say thank you thank you very much any questions thank you so much for that for your presentation and all the work you put into preparing the presentation do we have any questions or comments from our fellow trustees trustee murray your hand went up very quickly and then vice president richardson i saw your hand go up as well i just want to thank you for your presentation and it it's very very clear that your staff loves you and you love your staff and and and that that's good for the kids and uh we appreciate

142all that all of you have done i'm glad that you got the the learning hubs and um and i appreciate that you react to the data that you see when there's a problem and then you go and and you know make the uh the the adaptation so i i appreciate that and so thank you thank you thank you trustee murray vice president richardson thank you uh principal mclaughlin i i want to say i see i see your enthusiasm and your passion for the students and i know that this is one of those challenging schools that um you know that that can frustrate most teachers and probably not in today's world but um the the the fact that you just uh if you see something that's not working right i love i love hearing you saying

143well we we crunch the data we change something when it's not working i think that's that's a wonderful thing instead of waiting for six weeks because at this age group i know the kids are stopping everything up and uh it's remarkable to me to hear you say we we see a problem we fix it we move on and and i'm happy that this district uh you're getting the help that you need and that's what we hope when we vote for all this and we sit here and agonize whether we're giving you enough or not enough for the mental health aspect that is all in involved in our this year's pandemic thing so um you know kudos to you and your staff for the wonderful work you're doing with our struggling uh demographic student in that

144area i know that's a big challenge thank you and thank you vice president richardson uh trustee baker thank you um thank you miss mclaughlin as a former los cerritos parent i really know that you know how tight a community it is at such a small school um i'm very happy to hear both from your caller here the callers over there tonight that appreciated you and from what i've seen both here and when i saw the original performance of that nutcracker suite a couple months ago that was good uh usually this is where i ask our guests you know what what special thing have you done during this this trying time that have made things better than other schools can look at but i'm guessing the answer would probably be your uh your your extra training

145for the the sorry phonemic i'm not very good with the uh the phonemic awareness work yeah phonemic awareness work but um you know is is that something that you think we can implement in other places really um i think um right now um mr irish and um dr growth have been working with the rti teachers uh the reading teachers um because there is a gap in our wonders um language arts program for phonemic awareness and and phonics and um you know so they are working on that program and uh we we we found something that worked for us and hopefully we'll find something that works for the whole district um but um so they definitely mr irish is working on it i know that we are at the point thank you principal mclaughlin so we're

146at the point with our reading specialist as prince mclaughlin said we're looking at four programs going through our ffme process fit feasibility monitoring evaluation process when we conduct that we will bring back a recommendation and then we will do a district implementation as principal mclaughlin stage so we can train all staff early literacy is a gap that we are working on with our reading specialists and all the staff in south city so thank you thank you both thank you tris sorry thank you trustee baker trustee shea i see your hand is up thank you thank you really appreciate your presentation principle that's excellent job and then we all can feel your enthusiasm there and then the love you have for kids for our students and also for your staff and then with this pandemic time

150thank you roll call please thank you um welcome dr shay um there'll be a lot of items that are roll call going forward so when i call you just please say i or no as the other trustees do thank you so student trustee rongel cruz yes trustee baker yes rusty shea yes trustee murray yes vice president richardson yes president lujan yes motion carries okay i'm going to pause on the current open meeting and i'm going to open up our second public hearing of the evening for the south san francisco adult federation of teachers chapter 6179 and south san francisco unified school district proposals prior to commencing negotiations california law requires that a school district and the exclusive employee representative present their respective proposals at a public meeting [Music] so i'm going to see if we

151have any public comment on this topic i am not seeing any raised hands trying to use my teacher wait time okay given this i'm going to close the public hearing and reconvene into our regular open session um first item for consideration is the ssf aft proposal to ssf usd the south san francisco adult school teachers proposal will be presented to the south san francisco unified school district board of trustees to reopen negotiations related to compensation thank you president so just the two items from aft is article 12 compensation article 13 benefits and our proposal is compensation article 12. okay do we have any questions comments concerns on this one okay not getting a plethora of feedback on this um okay do we need direction okay so all right okay i think we're good so i

152believe that this brings us to the action items of the the evening um i hope our quirk is ready to read okay um and then trustee baker are you okay showing the resolutions as you have done in the past let me get to that page and and uh i will say that uh trustee murray and i did agree for me to take that one and not at least i'm willing to take more if needed okay perfect thank you for that so our first um item this evening is resolution 2104 for national child abuse prevention month staff recommends the adoption of resolution 2104 in support of national child abuse prevention month should i read first okay resolution number 21-04 in support of child abuse prevention month whereas april has been designated child abuse prevention month in

153the united states since 1983 and this annual observance is dedicated to raising awareness and preventing child abuse and whereas child abuse and neglect is an important societal concern that may affect the long-term health and well-being of not only the children but also the adults they become and whereas safe stable and nurturing relationships and communities can break the cycle of abuse and maltreatment and whereas child abuse prevention and promoting the social and emotional well-being of children and families requires a coordinated and comprehensive response by all systems supporting children youth and families including schools law enforcement health systems faith-based organizations and community programs and whereas each each person has a stake in ensuring children have access to the resources and supports they need to be secure healthy and successful without fear of aggression or cruelty and whereas

154all south san francisco unified school district employees must review the mandated reporting requirements annually and immediately report child abuse or neglect to the appropriate authorities and whereas bullying a form of peer abuse can impact a young person's physical social emotional or mental health and whereas children and youth may be disconnected from their families are increasingly more vulnerable to online sexual exploitation and trafficking and whereas it is everyone's responsible to responsibility to prevent all forms of abuse from taking place at school in the community or through technology and to consistently advocate for a child's safety now therefore be resolved that the south san francisco unified school district board of trustees hereby recognizes and supports national child abuse prevention month regularly passed and adopted this 25th day of march 2021. thank you trustee murray do we have

155a motion so moved first by trustee baker vice president richardson did you have a question comment or would you want to make the second okay and we have a second from vice president richardson roll call please student trustee rhondella cruz yeah christy baker yes christie shea yes trustee murray yes vice president richardson yes and president luhan yes motion carries uh trustee baker did you raise your hand okay okay it's all good just making sure i don't miss anything i don't want to accidentally do that to anyone okay our next item this evening is resolution 2105 for earth day staff recommends the adoption of 21 of resolution 2105 in support of earth day so resolution 21-05 earth day april 22nd 2021 whereas environmental groups have sought to make earth day a day of action to change

156human behavior prompt policy changes initiate environmental reform promote ecology and respect ecology and the respect for life on the planet as well as to encourage awareness of the growing problems of air water and soil pollution and whereas this year represents the 51st anniversary of the first earth day celebration held april held on april 22nd 1970 and whereas this year's theme is restore our earth an enormous challenge deemed to be the most pressing issue and whereas schools have the potential to create positive and substantial environmental change in the world while teaching students to be stewards of their communities the earth and its resources and whereas el camino high school's ecology club serves to inspire the conservation of the local ecosystems around the school and the community experience the unique ecosystems of california and educate students of

157the importance of maintaining the environment and whereas south san francisco high school's conservation club has planted trees for a new orchard on campus and their earth club planned a camping trip to celebrate a year of recycling and gardening and whereas district staff and several south san francisco unified school district schools are focused on efforts to beautify campuses with gardening projects recycling efforts and waste management and now therefore be it resolved that the south san francisco unified school district of the uh district board of trustees hereby recognizes the efforts to continue a global movement which embraces nature and its values to adopt measures which increase conservation and sustainability and to nurture a respect for the environment in all students during earth day 2021 regularly passed and adopted this 25th day of march 2021. i am still

158muted thank you trustee murray do we have a first first first thank you vice president richardson first by vice president richardson do we have a second yes a second challenge thank you thank you trustee shea we have a second by trusteeshay roll call please student trustee rangel cruz yes christy baker yes rusty shay yes trustee murray yes vice president richardson yes president lujan yes motion carries okay our next item this evening is resolution 21-06 for autism awareness month staff recommends the adoption of resolution 21-06 in support of autism awareness month and i will take this one south san francisco unified school district resolution 21-06 for autism awareness month whereas the society for autism was founded in 1965 to promote research that provide help and guidance for those living with this condition and whereas the society

159helped establish legislation in the disabilities act recognize and protect those with autism and whereas world autism day world autism awareness day april 2nd was established to raise public consciousness and improve the quality of life of those diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder or asd to lead full and meaningful lives as an integral part of society and whereas autism can manifest itself in many different ways any every person with this condition faces difficult different challenges depending on where they are on the autistic spectrum and whereas into the second half of the 20th century only people with severe symptoms were diagnosed with autism and they were often institutionalized and whereas autism was believed to result from poor parenting or vaccinations instead of being understood as a neurological disorder and whereas today awareness campaigns at schools and self-advocacy have

160increased the world's understanding and acceptance of autism and whereas during autism awareness month we celebrate the many accomplishments of americans with asd and ensure they are afforded equal opportunities to reach their full potential now therefore be it resolved that the south san francisco unified school district board of trustees hereby recognizes the challenges faced by individuals with autism and continues to support them during autism awareness month regularly passed and adopted this 25th day of may march 2021. thank you trustee baker do we have a first i don't know but can i suggest a friendly minor amendment um on this paragraph where it says one two three four five uh seven six whereas where it says whereas autism was believed to result from poor parenting or vaccinations can we put autism was mistakenly believed to result from

161those items so we have a first yeah and a second with the with the corrections as suggested by trustee baker do roll call please student trustee rongo cruz yes christy baker yes krusty shea yes christie murray yes vice president richardson uh i'm going on faith yes president lujan yes motion carries okay and i pulled item e so that brings us to resolution 21-08 denouncing hate crimes and bigotry targeting asian americans and pacific islanders staff recommends the adoption of resolution 21-08 in support of denouncing hate crimes and bigotry targeting asian americans and pacific islanders madam chair before we go into this one this is two pages to do we can i suggest we tag team it absolutely um uh i i will volunteer to take part of it um if i have some help from my

162friends well there's a third page so i mean i do you want me to do page one and then or yeah why don't you do page one and finish the sentence that that goes on page two and i'll start at page two and then or again on page three does that work for everyone sounds good all right sounds good i had a quick question yes vice president richardson thank you uh president uh item e what are we waiting for the for another time to vote on that one i know how important last thursday's meeting was and i felt awful that i was so sick that i actually got sent home from work um and so i do recognize i am eligible for compensation but i just know how important it was and so for me

163it just feels unusual to take compensation when i know that i needed to be there so i reported the item to not bring it back with respect madam chair we encourage our employees to take moved and i i would be very comfortable you you did not you weren't absent because of anything under your yeah it's a covered uh illness so i if the trustees um by can i introduce a motion that we uh vote on item e despite the objections by president i actually can't even vote on this item so you all you're welcome to deliberate uh i i'll see i'll second that was a motion to waive the reading of it sounds good okay so it sounds like there was a so first thank you and i'm gonna say it sounds like there was

164a first from vice president richardson in a second from trustee baker roll call please didn't trust trustee run girl cruz yes christy baker yes misty shay yes trustee murray yes vice president richardson yes so thank you all i really appreciate your support and teamwork okay now i think we jump into our resolution 21-08 trustee baker are you okay sharing the screen oh yay thank you okay so resolution resolution 21-08 a resolution denouncing hate crimes and bigotry targeting asian americans and pacific islanders whereas the asian pacific policy and planning council and chinese for affirmative action launched a hate incident reporting internet website titled stop aapi cr hate at the beginning of the covet 19 outbreak in march of 2020 which documented over 2 800 hate incidents against asian american pacific islanders aapi in 2020 and over

165700 of these incidents occurred in the bay area of california and whereas on january 20 i mean january 30th 2021 84 year old bisha rotten 10 [Music] i don't know how that's pronounced i'm sorry that i butchered it um a nearly blind and gentle elderly thai man died from injuries resulting from an attack while he was walking in the city of san francisco in what is deemed as a hate crime and whereas on february 3rd 2021 a 64 year old grandmother was assaulted and robbed of her purse which included more than a thousand dollars in cash in broad daylight in downtown san jose and whereas on march 16 2021 eight people six being asian two white all but one being what women were gunned down by a white man in atlanta georgia whereas 38 of

166south san francisco's population are asian americans xenophobic attacks targeting asian american elders around the bay area increased again just before lunar new year and whereas these reports depict a disturbing reality especially for asian women who experienced violence nearly two and a half times more than their male counterparts however the numbers do not tell the full story they don't include many of the unreported and increasingly normalized incidents of violence and whereas racism and anti-aapi sentiments has been exacerbated by the coven 19 pandemic and perpetuated by language used by former president trump who characterizes this global pandemic as the chinese virus and whereas politically charged and culturally insensitive rhetoric referring to coveted 19 as the chinese virus or kung flu further encourages racism prejudice and hate crimes against aapis and whereas racism towards aapis has always existed

167ever since aapis began immigrating to the united states such as the 19th century scapegoating of aapis also known as the yellow peril as well as the 21st century scapegoating of aapis for the coven 19 pandemic these examples are painful but they are also part of a larger and often dismissed history of violence in addition to the chinese exclusion act of night of 1882 the assaults against filipino farm workers in the 1930s by white mobs and the japanese internment camps of the 1940s there's been a long standing history of racialized colonial wars that have shaped aapi communities history before aapis even arrived to the united states jesse baker and whereas the recent rise of violence against asian americans is part of a larger history of violence against communities of color we must work together to create

168community-centered solutions that stop the violence in all communities and whereas the counter movement condemning the violence against aapis is also part of a larger history of resistance against white supremacy and colonized colonization highlighting interracial solidarity which the black community has consistently shown dating back to frederick douglass's opposition to restrictions on chinese immigration black support for the filipino community during the philippine-american war of 1899-1913 black opposition to the vietnam war 1955-75 through an anti-war and pro-refugee lens asian-american women activists i.e gracely boggs and yuri kochiyama work in abolition and black liberation and the third world liberation front which united latinx czech chicanex indigenous black and asian american pacific islander communities in the fight for ethnic studies in the 1960s and whereas the model minority myth continues to divide communities of color feeds into racism and contributes

169to the false notion that the aapi community does not experience racial oppression or is impacted by white supremacy which ignores the aapi's community's experience with islamophobia anti-arab racism and anti-south asian violence especially post 911 and whereas the model minority myth also creates the stereotype that the aapi community is a monolithic group a stereotype that invisible lies the economic academic and social struggles of our diverse communities eg native americans pacific islanders southeast asians arab americans mixed race asians hapas undocumented asians long students etc which is why this resolution also forcefully condemns the ideology of the model minority myth that dispels it due to its role in hindering solidarity amongst communities of color and whereas the rise of anti-aapi racism and violence that occurs every day and also serves as a reminder of the dire need for

170ethnic studies because if we do not develop anti-racist consciousness with and for our youth white supremacist ideology will persist and whereas the south san francisco unified school district board of education remains committed to creating a district-wide ethnic studies program that highlights aapi histories along with black latinx chiconics and native indigenous histories so as to combat the anti-aapi racism being experienced by many aapis in our state and county and whereas the south san francisco unified school district board of education stands with the american asian american and pacific islander communities and wishes to affirm its commitment to the safety and well-being of asian american students staff and community members and ensure that they know that they are not alone and that they can speak out to help stop the spread of bigotry and i'll keep going now

171therefore be resolved that the south san francisco unified school district board of education calls on all residents and leaders to join us in condemning racist attacks against asian americans in all forms and renewing our commitment to speak out against such attacks defend and protect those targeted and seek justice and accountability against those who commit hate crimes against asian-american pacific islander members of her community and be it further resolved that the south san francisco unified school district board of education denounces hate crimes hateful rhetoric and hateful attacks against asian americans and pacific islanders and works to ensure that aapi students feel safe and welcome both during this cover 19 pandemic and beyond regularly passed and adopted this 25th day of march 2021. thank you trustee baker and trustee murray do i have a first first okay

172so first by trustee or vice president richardson second by trustee murray does that work yeah okay roll call please student trustee ron gail cruz yes christy baker yes christy shay yes christy murray yes vice president richardson yes president lujan motion carries in keeping an eye on the time am i correct in understanding that we are due for a break at 1009 okay 1009 all right perfect thank you for keeping me on track okay our next item this evening is approval of an individual services service agreement in isa staff recommends the approval of an individual service agreement with journey academy from april 3rd through august 11 2021 in order to fulfill the inherited placement as pres as presented to the board i am seeing hands and i don't know which order they came up in so

173student trustee rangel cruz and then vice president richardson yes um i had a i had two questions um based on the previous resolutions we just passed um am i allowed to ask them or do i have yes i apologize it's me toggling between two screens so i didn't see your hand and i do a question um i have one question uh i noticed there was a mention of an ethnic studies class um well this do you guys have no in mind if it will be a full year or continue to be a semester class if um you guys are very adamant about stopping bigotry i feel like it would need to be at least longer than one semester great question i don't know if staff is in any position to okay uh mr irish are

174you okay speaking to this okay so we're following the guidance from cde as you know miss rongo cruz that the state of california has adopted an ethics studies curriculum so we are fortunate enough to already have an ethics studies class in place but you're right we will probably once we get further guidance and look at the curriculum scope and sequence that the state is recommending we might end up making a recommendation back to the school board about possibility of enhancing or lengthening due to the content that we would like to cover uh for our student body so it's definitely something that we will consider we're just waiting for that and and also you know possibly it might become a recommendation to be a possible graduation requirement so those are things that we are thinking about

175as we get further guidance from cde on that thank you um and then final question um a lot of these resolutions do get told and said and a lot of things are stated um i would just like to suggest this um is there any way we could possibly have updates on each resolution and how we're working on um carrying out these certain um resolutions and what has been said um so we keep the public as well so we keep the public um notified and up to date to what we're doing to uphold these resolutions that we were passing so thank you for that question uh trustee baker you're yeah just as a start for that um one thing we might want to do is make them more visible we had a protocol that we set

176up last summer about about posting resolutions on our website i suggest we do post the resolutions we passed tonight not the one giving you paying for the sick day but um milani i'm sorry um since it was first proposed i have been posting each resolution oh we don't i thought we were already had to so significantly uh i'm sorry especially suggest each one but you've been posting everyone great i've been posting those that are um one of a kind that i assume the board would want posted i will trust your judgment on that thank you thank you trustee baker um and student trustee rangel cruz you ask a great question but i also want to respect that it's not on the agenda so perhaps maybe this is like a topic we can add to a

177future agenda of you know doing a yes and like at this time we have the direction to post and then maybe we explore how do we follow up so that would be a future agenda items so great question so thank you for that vice president richardson thank you president i have a question about this particular uh request for a is this uh mr irish is this uh i understand the you know the breakdown and so forth but is this uh this student uh only going to be at this place which appears to be outside of south san francisco um is this a temporary placement um or can you just brief us really quickly about this particular uh request for uh i think it's about 60 i forget how many thousands of dollars it is about

17821 000 per month per month so yes i can uh good evening once again vice president richardson and members of the board so we in south san francisco pride ourselves on meeting the needs of all of our students this student i want to be careful to protect confidentiality we have been working hard on a placement change for this student we've actually been able to find a more local placement change while our director of special education and the special education team has been working with the family you know our goal is always to provide services within south san francisco unified school district so this is a temporary placement through the month of august with the hopes of reevaluation to see if we can find a fit within south san francisco unified school district that's really um

179i just want to like i said i want to be careful without giving too much specific information because if i start talking about previous placements i could possibly identify the student and family well i basically am interested in the cost because this is an outside of uh very far away does that mean that we'll be funding or paying for the uh transportation on a daily basis from where he is to and from to south san francisco that's a long ride yes goodness yes okay i i see what you're saying you're looking for another place closer okay i just we've already worked with this family and changed a placement this is a new placement for this family so that's all this is a new placement for this family so it's already closer than where the alternative

180placement oh my gosh before so you have to remember some students have um very very unique needs and we need to find the best the best placement for them to meet all of their needs well just basically thank you i wanted to ask about that of course that was awesome thank you thank you thank you go ahead miss trustee baker thank you am i not correcting that we've gotten briefings on this case before in our weekly updates i thought so we we've we have shared information about uh this and we also had uh agreement on this student um and this placement last board meeting but again to be fair we've had lots of board meetings in the month of march so yeah so to the board so and that's what i thought so thank you

181i will be happy to put this aside first by trustee baker do i have a second second second by trustee murray roll call please student trustee ron gail cruz yes trustee baker yes christie shea yes christie murray yes vice president richardson yes president lujan yes motion carries okay approval of agreement with diversified staged staff recommends the approval of an agreement with diversified stage for high school hybrid graduations as presented to the board trustee baker perfect thank you okay vice president richardson thank you um mr irish i guess you're the point man here um you know i i got this uh we we all the board got a uh you know printout of all the plans for this particular uh request and i see that um the uh this you know the the diagram says uh

182separation of six feet now um i is that going to stay as presented to the board because now it's shrunk to four feet we can but that doesn't matter because we're outdoors so um i guess i answered my own question but the thing was um the cost that i saw here um how did we what are we getting for this um do these it's okay just one more question i know i'm going to ask you i'm asking too many but does every student get a a copy a cd or something of their graduation and uh what happens where they get pictures i don't get i don't understand it i i see all this stuff but i please so good evening once again vice president richardson and members of the board we in south city have

183been in a shelter and place since march of 2020 we have heard earlier from our student trustees just the happiness of having a senior sunrise so we worked with our our board us as cabinet work with our site leaders and we want to recognize our seniors who and want to give them a celebration with graduation like no other so mr brockmire and myself started researching in january at that point we didn't know what the guidance was going to be from the california department of public health and our local san mateo public health department so we will like you said we are flexible and we will pivot and we will follow the guidance that should be released forthcoming in the next couple weeks from the state of california on outdoor events um in terms of capacity

184all that will depend on transmission and the tiered blueprint system that the state of california has laid out for us so if we're in the yellow tier by the time we do tr uh graduation we can we can have up to 67 percent capacity one of the big things is just like we are what we're doing with our spectators at our athletic events is grouping families in fours and making sure there's six feet of distancing in between to limit the transmission or the possibility of transmission one of the big things that is happening here is this organization company will help us with our covid screening process here because we will need to screen it's part of the guidance we will need to screen families temp check and everybody ensure that they're clustered together and it's

185immediate family members so that's what we're working on so if it's approved this evening two things will happen we might due to the number of graduates have to do multiple graduations so we might have to do two graduations because we might not be able to do two requirements have everyone in person so why we're partnering with a company like diversified stage is we might have to stream it because we might at that point due to what's happening uh with transmission with coven we might not be allowed to have any participants there live so we're trying to pivot with this company to provide it in person or stream or do a hybrid approach of this graduation so there's lots of streaming there's audio there's gonna have to be pre-recorded events and speeches from some of our

186leaders and students or they're going to have to come in live so it's just lots of planning so if this is approved the next phase would be we would then go and look at both the layouts at both the high schools so this would be the first time for example south san francisco high school would be outdoors on the football field normally as you know they do it in the auditorium so there's lots of um lots of things that we need to prepare for this company will assist us in making sure we're meeting all of those health and safety requirements so yes you're right the cost is substantial but i just want to assure you last year when we looked at the possibility and this year this is an alignment with what other organizations and

187companies are charging for for a graduation especially with the size of our student body and potential participants so this amount that we are getting because i see the one that we had on the 26th of february had 105 000 and now it was uh now it's for the board is this a partial payment or so the total cost so what i've laid out before is i showed you all the options there's different packages so we worked with our site leaders we made determinations on what what aspects we are going to uh incorporate um so the total is 30 000 per high school and that could be for two graduations of vice president richardson let's say the guidance goes and it limits and we have to go to three then we would pivot to three graduations

188so that's part of the reason why we're trying to once secure this contract and start to prepare because we need to communicate with our families about um you know this graduation there's still other guidance that could impact you know in-person events so one of them is the travel guidance where if you're not within 120 miles of south san francisco at this time you won't be allowed to be in person so that's why we want to make sure that we can still stream the event for those family members that are further than 120 miles so as you know cabinet is constantly reading guidance from our state local and federal agencies to stay abreast of what's happening with kovac well i think our seniors deserve it i mean they've struggled and this is a milestone in their

189lives that i can't imagine you know not giving them after last year you know i guess i'll be going to some of these i suppose i hope so i would greatly appreciate if the board would consider this i think this would be a great event for our seniors you said it very nicely vice president richardson they deserve a celebration um for what is transpired this last 14 months or so thanks for finding them anyway thank you mr irish and thank you vice president richardson trustee uh yes if i'm out of order please let me know i want to support this one because my son graduated last year and this graduation means so much for students so i super appreciate uh cameron and dr moore uh paying a lot of attention and then and then work

190on this uh never never um stop playing because it's like the county the different rule come out and everything has to change it's like in the community college we are changing the student in the face to face everything is it's every moment is changing so this is a stunning work for you the cabinet to take out so super appreciate that and i think our senior really need this boost in this pandemic time so thank you thank you trustee shane do we have a motion first from trustee murray and a second from vice president richardson roll call please student trustee rangel cruz yes misty baker yes christie yes christie murray yes vice president richardson yes president lujan yes and seeing that it is 10 15 we are overdue for a break so i'm going to suggest

191we take a 10 minute break till 10 25 and then when we come back it seems that we'll need to vote um we'll need to vote to extend the meeting for a few minutes we still have a few items so i'll see you all at 10 25. it'll be quick though okay looks like we're all making our way back it's good to see everyone can i just say but we're still on break i'm so glad we have the caption here because we now get breaks which we never did true we had talked about bio breaks and then forgot it gives me a chance to go out and get some fresh air to you know because i'm ready to curl under the desk you know plus i got the heater right here the whole thing is

192just too perfect okay trusty murray and trusty shea are you also on your way back yes awesome all right good to see everyone again um i s in seeing that it's 10 25 and we run out of time at 10 30. can we get a motion to extend the meeting just for a little bit longer we don't have a ton of items so moved uh well i moved to extend the meeting till 10 45 or 11 o'clock i mean if we end early and early but yeah why why don't we say 11. i don't think it's going to take that long but it might take longer than 45. okay so let's move on second okay so i think we have many many emotions well not many but we have many voices so um i guess

193trustee murray since you started it and we'll go with you as the first for 11 o'clock and then vice president richardson since you jumped in um we'll go with you as the second and then trustee baker will thank you for your contributions [Laughter] roll call please student trustee rongo cruz yes christy baker yes christy shea yes christy murray yes vice president richardson yes president lujan yes motion carries okey dokey this brings us to an exciting one this evening approval of the south san francisco high school mascot logo mascot logos um also known as branding brand uh staff recommends the approval of the south san francisco high school mascot committee recommend recommended mascot logos slash brand as presented bran yeah yeah as presented to the board do we have that okay a first from trustee murray

194oh second second from trustee baker roll call please student trustee wrong out cruz uh looks like sorry i'm unsure on this you an option for you there is always the yay nay or abstain because you don't feel that you can make a decision or you feel conflicted or you have conflict of interest um i'll abstain okay trusty baker yes trusty shay yes christy murray yes vice president richardson yes mr lujan yes motion carries i'm sure just to comment on that item um i i do want to say that although that was the video arts class that put that together i will they they if they were taking a marketing class i'd give them a great grade on that presentation presentation they did a great job absolutely absolutely agreed absolutely bright futures for sure all right

195item 3a adoption of tentative csea chapter 197 agreement and approval of corresponding a b 1200 staff recommends the adoption of the tentative agreement dated march 2nd 2021 between the south san francisco unified school district and the california school employees association chapter 197 and pursuant to government code section 3547.5 approval of the corresponding ab 1200 document as presented to the board presume luhan if i may yes real quickly uh just hearing what uh uh csa president uh malcolm said earlier they had not ratified the vote as of today i was expecting that to be done so there's two options we can either pull this item for the next board meeting or um in the vote recommendation of putting something is per ratification from csea coming up question process question for you because i don't believe we

196have another board meeting until later in april so i don't know if we defer voting if that is going to slow things down i do appreciate board approval is is important it would slow things down um yes i would prefer i mean i'm sure csa would prefer it to be passed but i just want to make sure pending ratification from csda is added into the recommendation if one is so made absolutely don't want to get too far ahead one or the other we do need to work lock step in key so i turn it to the trustees trustee baker i'll be happy to make the motion pending ratification of the unmodified uh resolute um agreement icsca is that um is that amenable to the other side i mean they may have an objection of some

197sort i have no idea i'm just speculating well under my resolution if they if they don't approve it then our votes boot so oh okay so i'll second it okay so we have a first by trustee baker and a second by trustee murray with the amendment with the amendment as recommended roll call please could we make sure we get the right wording in there do we have it somebody so that we have the correct dr spalding is very confident yes with a thumbs up okay around gail cruz yes christy baker yes trusty shea yes justine murray yes vice president richardson yes yes motion carries okay this brings us to approval of change order number one to the argo construction incorporated agreement for the el camino high school culinary arts classroom project staff recommends the approval

199look at it with like if there's 47 items avoid that meeting um but we also want to honor that it's important otherwise the only the other alternative is if you want you can defer to dr moore and i to figure out where it fits but either way is comfortable if you have a suggestion it's welcome here all right well um i would most likely defer to um president luhan and superintendent dr moore so okay then we will agendize that and bring it back so that way we can discuss how we follow up on resolutions and make sure that it's not just words on paper so thank you for that suggestion this evening okay summary of board directives i believe the only one for tonight is the one that the student trustee just mentioned adding an
