007board members I am grateful to finally be here live in a meeting I missed the last couple um 2022-23 school year started with not as much chaos as last year it was really a lot Commerce start for our site we were very excited we've also added six teachers to our team and uh have some amazing new teachers to join our amazing team so we are very very grateful for that and we are grateful for your support for giving those to us we now have a new biology teacher and a new physics teacher new math teacher two new English teachers and a lady from rcoe that is giving our seventh and 8th graders some information on careers and it helps us teachers because we can offer so much more to our students as a whole package
008of a school sixth grade or six week grading quarters already closed we it's roaring by don't nowhere seven weeks have already gone but it is and Monday we have been preparing very very hard for this coming Monday is our wasc team and our teachers have been working very hard in conjunction with our Administration our counseling team to hopefully make it a very very successful wask this personally will be my third wasp at CMI this is my 16th year at CMI and this will mark my 22nd year in the district so I am I'm very proud to still be in the district and still feel very very supported as a teacher our members feel supported by the district and continue to feel supported by our district so we want to thank you thank you very much
009and information on 6.4 principles update I'm not seeing him today Miss beagles here representing Dr milosovlevich hi there I am here yes for Dr Milo sadlyvich I've been practicing his name he said I'm doing pretty good at it um he well well we yeah she just got that up but he is actually dropping off his firstborn daughter um at College this is why I am here for him tonight and um he promised that he would only cry a little bit this week um while he's dropping her off but he kind of cried a few a little bit before he left too so um I'm just you know throwing him under the bus just a few things just to share that is that's happening Miss Behrens did share we have wasp and things like that but
010I just had a quick little presentation for you um huge wasp visit coming up we haven't seen them for a few years but we're very excited that we've been working on a self-study which has really just given us the understanding that we do all always need to continue to communicate about um being more efficient effective so that we can we can create more successful students at our school so they come on Sunday and so I'm so excited to meet them on Sunday in the middle of the day on Sunday but we're excited to see them and start showing off our school and everything we're doing at our school so these are some of the brand new posters mission statement was was updated for a while we were we were using a pohsd mission statement because
011we didn't have our own and so we took about a year and a half as a School site to even create a mission statement so you see it there and then also developed these student learning outcomes that we feel are very important to continue to help our students to focus on not just for wasp But continuing to grow as students and at our school so next up uh some of the site-wide focus Foci that we're dealing with are mainly with literacy and math so you can see there that when we went to the average Avid summer Institute we took over half of our our teachers and what we all realize is we need to focus on literacy we're seeing students may not be as successful with their state testing and AP testing due to potentially
012not having as much focus on literacy from every school from every teacher at our school so we decided you know what no matter what if you teach JROTC PE science physics math we're all literacy teachers and so we decided that is going to be our smart goal our literacy Focus using wicker Avid strategies as a School site and then you'll notice there's lots of interventions that take place and this is actually this week I got an email from our math teacher who's providing a lot of intervention throughout the day and you'll see that over the last two weeks 95 percent of the students that did not pass the unit 1 Test were provided interventions and then they were reassessed and of those students 98 percent improved their scores so we're not just doing these things
013but we're collecting data and then using that data to then evaluate reevaluate and then provide more structured approaches and interventions for our students next up we have lots of and you'll see this in your agenda lots of um counts lots of conferences really focused on English math and counseling so continuing to increase our a through G of course we're 100 graduation rate but we are wanting to get not just our kids um uh applying and enrolled in a college but actually finishing and actually seeing them walk away in four years with a degree so we're focused on English math and counseling conferences these are just a few you'll see them in your agenda you guys are the ones helping us to approve these these conferences but just wanted to tell you that we have many
014of them coming up this semester that we're excited about and then I believe lastly the fun things for students that's coming up homecoming that's coming up pretty soon they've already decided upon their um their theme and they're coming up with ideas and decorations and painting posters and all that kind of stuff so you are also welcome to come to our home football game which will be held at Paris High School and you'll see that's on the 20th of October as well any questions for me okay thank you so much appreciate it thank you okay that leads us to 7.1 which is an action item revision adoption ordering of the agenda do I have a motion Dr Rouse trustee Stafford please vote 7.1 passes five in favor zero opposed 8.1 is an invitation to address the
015Board of Trustees on a non-agendized items I do have one for CMI so I have to read my little Spiel here bear with me individual speakers shall be allowed three minutes to address the board on each agenda or non-agenda item the board shall limit the total time for public input on each item to 20 minutes with board consent the president may increase or decrease the time allowed for Public Presentation depending on the topic and the number of persons wishing to be heard in addition the president may take a poll of speakers for or against a particular issue and may ask that the additional persons speak only if they have something new to add that being said we have Tina Williams on fundraising at CMI hello and good evening my name is Tina Williams I have
016three students who attend CMI one senior and two sixth graders I come before you today to discuss the lack of fundraising efforts of this school my 12th grader has a tendency in my since the fifth grade throughout these years I have heard the consistent message that we do not fundraise and I want to know why not I can never get a good response to that question so here we are with a lovely new gym and a beautiful snack bar but there are no snacks um why are we not allowed to utilize this opportunity to raise funds for our kids and their programs do we like fundraising ideas because I have plenty do we like the appropriate person in the position to handle these funds because I will volunteer my time and efforts to make this
017happen in an unofficial capacity I've already done this let me give you some examples of what I'm talking about since my son's sixth grade year I've donated 2500 annually to the military ball with the exception of the covet year since my son's ninth grade year I have donated funds to the football team for either items for the team or Game Day meals last year alone I provided meals for four games which estimated two thousand dollars this year I set a budget for four thousand dollars I offer I also offered to sponsor any kids in need of Team Fan Gear only one kid took that opportunity and that was an estimated of seventy dollars doing my son's 10th grade year just for BSU alone I sponsor one kid's trip to South Africa as well as my
018own Childs I coordinated fundraising activities outside of the school um for the entire group and I myself even modeled in a fundraising Fashion Show to help get these kids to South Africa so just imagine if these resources were donated for fundraising efforts these kids could raise money for senior activities team meals trip trips school dances prom and so many other activities why do I do it you may ask because I believe in this program I'm retired military and I believe that if supported correctly this organization will produce great leaders and most importantly I believe in these kids they will make great change agents not just one day but today as they are making changes as we speak I want these kids to be able to look back on their experience at CMI and Rave about
019how great this school is not only for the academics the staff but for all of the extracurricular activities as well again I am Tina Williams and I thank you for your time thank you Ms Williams 9.1 which is an action item consent calendar do we have a motion second Dr Freeman and Dr arouse with the second please vote 9.1 passes five in favor zero opposed 10.1 is an action item Personnel certificated Personnel action items do I have a motion trustee Stafford trustee Vallejo please vote 10.1 passes five in favor zero opposed 10.2 is also an action item classified Personnel action items do I have a motion Dr Freeman trustee Stafford please vote 10.2 passes five in favor zero opposed 10.3 is an action item on curriculum excuse me resolution number one 22-23 this is a
020public hearing and resolution for a pupil textbook and instructional materials compliance regarding sufficiency of instructional materials for fiscal year 2022-23 do I have a motion so move D Dr arouse back again trustee Freeman Dr Freeman and we do have a public hearing on this so we are going to now that we've got the motion the second we're going to open the public hearing at 5 27. if anybody would like to step forward and and speak on this they are more than welcome to come up all right seeing nobody coming to the podium we are going to close the public hearing at 5 28. um and now I'm going to call for the vote on 10.3 10.3 passes five in favor zero post 11.1 is an information item other items by the superintendent nothing this evening
021thank you very much sorry 12.1 is information other items by the Board of Trustees Dr Rouse thank you Mr President I just want to say thank you to all the efforts and all the staff of CMI for all your efforts and your commitment to our students and wish you the best during the WASP visit I'm assuming it's a six year right is the wasp the WASP is it it's a six year or midterm okay did you get six years last time yes we that's what I was thinking yeah one one oh okay so you still get a midterm oh okay this would be like I said this is my third well hopefully you get the straight six years this time thank you Dr Ross this time thank you trustee Bayhill trustee Stafford I'm not sure
022your microphone all right two things uh on your overnight uh events for CMI this in the student presentation I noticed you had cert training which I'm very much in favor of I've taken it myself when I moved here locally everyone should know if there's an earthquake at least go check your gas meter and make sure your house is standing so the kids will learn this they get a lot of good gear and it's really a help to everyone a second uh I'd like more information on the fundraising issue uh but uh Mrs Williams just presented it seems like it warrants some discussion and that's all I have for you thank you trustee Stafford I would also I was going to thank Ms Williams for coming in to talk but she she ducked out but uh
023but uh yeah that's kind of concerning to me I thought that we have not had fundraising this is this is kind of a no-brainer I would think that we would do that to support our programs our kids on trips that type of thing and I'm kind of surprised that we haven't that that has been going on so I would I would like some information on that as well please going forward and after that it'll be motion for adjournment 13.1 do I have a motion so move Dr Rouse trustee Stafford please vote and 13.1 passes five in favor zero opposed and the CMI board meeting is adjourned at 5 31. okay all right I'd like to reconvene the Parish Union High School District board meeting for today September 21st at 5 32. we are now at
024item 8.1 which is an action item for the revision adoption ordering of the agenda do I have a motion trustee Vallejo Dr Freeman please vote 8.1 passes five in favor zero opposed 9.1 is an information item and Report out a closed session no report had a closed session and then 9.2 is also an information item District update by the superintendent and we I have a few items tonight but we're going to start out with some Rave Awards I'm going to ask Mr scorpions to step up and recognize some of our employees good evening it's a it's a special opportunity we have to recognize some of the outstanding employees that we have in the parachute High School District and that make our district like Mr Stafford said earlier a great place to work and a great
025place to learn and we have some amazing employees that allow us to do that and the first one that we'd like to recognize is jamilia and Adams Berry series [Applause] so the reason we're recognizing Jamelia is because she's actually actually saved a life and I want to explain why she's one of our amazing classified substitutes and on August 25th our risk management received a call from Jamila who was reporting an incident regarding a student at Heritage High School the student was eating lunch when she began to choke Jamelia didn't know how long the student had been was outside but said the student came running into the health office was in distress couldn't talk so Jamelia quickly made an assessment to determine the student wasn't having an allergic reaction I could see that the tongue was
026flat against the student's throat and she wasn't able to breathe so she immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver and was able to clear her Airway and after attempting excuse me and after attending to the student the district nurse was notified so she immediately jumped on that and took took action and that isn't just a regular one of our regular Health techs or one of our nurses or something it's actually one of our classified Subs that was able to do that and we were impressed by her calm demeanor and her ability to think quickly and take care of the student and when asked about her background she's I replied that all the training she has as a foster parent and that she doesn't have a medical background but she knew what to do and she didn't hesitate
027to help save that student so even the administration at Heritage High School also said that she's an amazing person and a valuable substitute who cares about our students so on behalf of all of us Jamila we were very proud of you congratulations [Applause] and next I'd like to invite up Maria Cruz Smith and Marisol Gonzalez [Applause] thank you and both Maria and Marisol are Community Liaisons and so I'm going to begin with Maria so Maria Cruz Smith has been an employee with a parachute High School District since August 2018 as a para educator at Paloma Valley high school and our Educational Services Department was unlucky enough to entice her way to serve as a community liaison so she has embraced the district's focus on parent engagement leadership initiatives otherwise known as Pelly and which is
028part of our lcap goal number four she arranges all the logistics for parent engagement and Outreach events for for Paloma Valley high school and pinnacotti middle school and she is also very entrepreneurial and a self-starter there are not enough words to describe Maria she has demonstrated confidence Poise and entrepreneurial spirit and professionalism of all time she started the grandparents raising grandchildren Workshop she serves as the Paloma on the Paloma Valley leadership team and actively participates in Peli she was also nominated and received the rcua family engagement network award of Distinction for her work on pilly and then we were very proud of our accomplishments some of the other things is that rcoe specifically said about her was that Maria is a tremendous asset to the team she leads by example and showcases her knowledge and
029desires for this to be apparent-led team she is very well organized respectful supportive kind and willing to learn she showcases her willingness to listen and motivate and motivate action so congratulations thank you so we have equally amazing things to say about our other community Liaisons that's Marisol Gonzalez Marisol joined the ed services team in September 2021 and has hit the ground writing at full speed she is a Paris high school graduate that right on just in the in and of itself and served as a Pina County Parent volunteer Marisol has embraced the district's focus on parent engagement learning Institute otherwise known as Peli which is part of our lcap number four she arranges all the logistics for parent engagement and Outreach events to Paris high school and pitocotti middle school she created a resource tree
030outside the reception area at Paris High using QR codes for both parents and students to access resources such as mental health Counseling Services Wellness Center tutoring crisis hotline summer school and much much more she also took a lead in pinnacotti's back to school night scavenger hunt which if he didn't know was really amazing she designed posters and games and prizes so families could participate in that throughout the evening she Marisol not only takes pride in her work but she also does uh does it with drive and passion and it's always available to help others on our team she's resourceful creative and a solution-based person and brings a positive energetic vibe to the puhsd family engagement team she was also nominated and received the rsua family engagement network award for of Distinction for her work on
031Peli and we are very proud of her accomplishments so congratulations [Applause] Thank you Kirk and congratulations lady we appreciate all the work you do for our families and our community thank you Mr Bennett [Applause] so a few weeks ago we all saw the news and the um when the train was leaking or going to blow up here up up off the freeway there well Pina County became a Red Cross evacuation site so we had a couple families were in there for for one night but the pinnacotti staff and our District staff getting over to make sure that we can take care of our own people in our in our community so I was really proud of that and pinnacotti and the district were recognized by the city of parishes just last Tuesday for opening up
032the school and doing those things to help our help our people the second one is is came really cool to me um during the fire out in Hemet there and they had to evacuate all the homes out there and they had to evacuate him at High School Hemet High School has a agricultural program like Paris High and Heritage Ave what our Heritage High took in was all the animals from from Hemet High were brought over to Heritage so they could be safe and the instructors from Hamilton would come over and feed the animals their animals and so it was nice collaboration between the two districts and the schools to make that happen and no one brought that up anywhere so I want to make sure that you knew what they were doing over there on
033that um tomorrow we have teams from or maybe even this evening teams from each School are heading to Palm Springs for the two-day Equity conference out there the RCA always does a great job with that and we're looking forward to them coming back with some ideas on how we can keep continuing our our drive to give everybody the equal opportunities available to them last Wednesday we had our first student of the month for the for the year over at Sizzler we had students from Paris High Paloma Heritage and CMI recognized a nice event and we're always excited when that happens you hear such great stories of what our kids do and or where they've come from um and my last one on September 7th we had the valley pool dedication it was a it was
034warm out there 103 degrees and we were out there on the pool deck but it was a nice event to be able to make make good on the promise that we made to the Paloma people back in 2012 that we were going to put a pool in there so Mr Stafford was there Mr Freeman was there and we appreciate them coming and being with us and I see Jen out there have you dried out yet Jen it out thank you sir they threw Jen myself and Hector in the pool so we got the First Swim kind of hard to swim with shoes on and long pants but we may do and that'll conclude my report for this evening thank you Mr Bennett all right when we go to 9.3 which is information night I'm a
035student representatives to the Board of Trustees and it looks like I get to start with Heritage High School student Representatives Naomi Anderson and Faith Casper thank you members of the board my name is I tried a different format having the event take place all day we saw a palliative outcome many clubs and sports were able to recruit for the team and we had a few new clubs formed because of Club Rush such as mental health strategic board games Offices here who doesn't get involved [Music] for students in the game that's what Transportation was an issue our first losses 19 to 28. but the stands are full on that on both sides cheering on the teams look forward to taking the trophy back here for our upcoming events on September 28th okay rally in the homecoming
036game on September 30th our homecoming dance on October 1st the greenhouse conference on October 6th through October 7th the classroom orders on October 11th and kick off to college and Senior panoramic pictures on October 12th all right thank you to those two ladies for the information and that leads me to trustee Freeman uh thank you I uh Mr President I'd like to introduce the Liberty High School we have put the names back up here so I can see them good evening for members aboard Mr Bennett and the cabinet my name is Sydney Doherty University president this is the ASB vice president in here are some events that happen around the campus and that are upcoming events our first week here at Liberty we had a back to school spirit week our students favorite Spirit day

039is uh thank you thank you for giving us your time and we'll see you guys next time bye thank you to those ladies for information on Paloma Valley and now trustee arouse yes thank you Mr President I'd like to introduce Paris High School students reps Nicole de la Torres Hernandez and Daisy Sanchez board good evening superintendent Bennett and cabinet I'm Daisy and I'm Nicole and we are your school board representatives for another year except this time we're seniors to explain the outfits um in spirit week we have Homecoming on Saturday right and today is today is hippie day today so the first update we have for you this year is picture day and picture day was held on August 15th it ran fairly smoothly but we did have a little bit of trouble um because
040of some new rules we implemented um we tried online IDs but that kind of backfired a little bit and we're still dealing with the repercussions of that but um we're back on track now and our second event was held on August 3rd it was our first senior class meeting we had a switch of advisors between Mr Rodriguez Jose Rodriguez he's now in counseling office and now we have mrsuna who was in English yeah before so they just kind of switched places um we had a pretty good turnout um we let the class in on our on a few of the homecoming days like the spirit days before everybody else knew and then our homecoming exam it was it was pretty good it was a very um insightful meeting the RC news this year which means
041this is our prom um the only thing is that I didn't realize how early on in the year we had to make preparations for this um we went under a prom venue visit and we visited what was it three three and it was let's go get this Anaheim Hills Golf Course and a USS ship um the ship it kind of did it yeah what we were looking for um and then the other two are golf courses they're very very nice actually one had like this really nice water fountain um I will not reveal which one we did go to because secrets and [Music] um um yeah it was really fun is it okay Sports we had we started off with football um however our first actual home game unfortunately was cut short because we didn't
042have power out like in the section of the stands yeah because of construction which it's all worth it because our school will be looking beautiful soon enough um however our actual I guess you could say first game where we were all about to be in there was the 2nd of September we won 21 to 16. that was really exciting actually it's it's bittersweet it's bittersweet to see you know instead of just like it works at another game which Daisy will tell you guys all about so the next game was on the ninth it was on the ninth and we won that one too we are on a 3-0 win streak we have another game this Friday this is Friday which hopefully will keep the streak up um definitely different to have so many wins under
043our belt but um on the topic of sports we have volleyball too and volleyball has been doing really well our first League game is this Wednesday I know this is the first week where League starts terrifying we did great in the normally um but we'll see how soon it goes hopefully we're aiming for CIF of course and then now for our spirit week so Monday next step we had Tuesday happy Tuesday happy Tuesday has been great Wednesday we have a white light Wednesday which you're essentially just wearing a white T-shirt or a white top and then you put a white wire so we have Adam Sandler Thursday Friday we have our first indoor rally in a while in a while our first indoor rally yeah our homecoming theme is glow in the dark so you
044know we are preparing for that um we have our posters we're ready for the most part our class posters and then we're just Saturday Saturday will be homecoming day is I wanted to introduce two new special people as me and Nicole are graduating we will be leaving you guys and these two will be taking our place this is Kyla and Nyla Wiley and they will take it from here we would like to tell you guys about how our very own Jalen Copeland was selected to be representative for the California FFA um delegate convention this October uh this will bring a lot of positive representation to our school and it's an honor [Music] to Daisy from yesterday so that is it for us okay okay [Music] foreign [Music] thank you to those ladies they really took
045hippie day seriously it was all free and you know good all right that's the end of our student representative information we move on to 9.4 information item psea president Jason Miller thank you foreign thank you saving a life that's pretty amazing can we get her over Paloma we eat a lot of food over there so but we're good at it um well the this last month the cabinet and psca executive board have spent the last few weeks jointly doing SRC trainings at different sites between site administrators and psea site Representatives we only have one more site to go if you don't know what site uh what SRC stands for it's a site relationship Council it is a meeting once a month between our psca site representatives and site administrators to talk about and solve labor
046problems I like doing these trainings because I enjoy talking about how people interact and how they should interact in principled relationships I wanted to share with you some of the big ideas that drive our srcs and and our prcs which is the executive board and the cabinet every month some of these I've I've shared before in board meetings but number one one of the biggest things that we deal with is attacking the problem not the person so when we have these meetings we make sure to focus on what we're talking about rather than the other side or other people things can get a little bit heated sometimes and it's really easy to want to hit back it's something somebody just said sometimes the question is asked what if the person is the problem in that
047scenario we focus on the behaviors and not the person not who you are but what's happening in that scenario but often we don't have the person being the problem it doesn't happen often a lot of times it's hey we're talking about this issue I don't like what you said okay let's deal with that a second big item that we focus on is that the relationship takes precedent over substance have you ever been arguing with somebody and forgot what you're arguing about anybody ever do that I see a few faces there yeah you get so heated that sometimes you haven't resolved your relationship issue right there and if two people are really upset with each other or two groups are really upset with each other they will never resolve or listen to fix the problem as
048long as they are stewing on how much the other side sucks getting past that part is essential to fixing any problem number three I don't have four number three practice acceptance not rejection these ones really stood out to me I like this one a lot is your default answer to a particular person or group is your default answer no do you hear something from somebody and you're just like nope no way then you might be practicing rejection the default answer should be let's do it for them if we can I know leaders that lead by the idea that giving in means compromise but the truth is by finding Solutions you show strength and respect amongst those you lead and finally this is a big one for everybody check before doing how many times have you
049opened your mouth an inserted foot I put my whole leg in before the Ready Aim Fire approach often leads to faulty assumptions rarely ever do we have to make decisions on the Fly And So It is better to find out the different components of a decision to know which way to go we rarely ever go on a long to medium road trip to a new place without consulting our GPS why would we do this with our employees or even our children's education thank you for this time to speak thank you Mr Miller 9.5 is an information item CSEA president Josh rushing I don't see him here he's out okay so we will move on to 9.6 comments by the Board of Trustees Dr Rouse nothing at this time Dr Freeman I would just like to
050ask Jason if you could pass that along to our national leaders uh I I think they they need that thank you trustee Vallejo I just want to say uh I'm happy that a lot of people were safe for the fire that was going on in Hemet I'm glad that our uh that our district and all the other districts near did close a school for that one Friday because it was necessary it was like really bad air quality so thank you for that and uh I am sorry I didn't go to the to the pool ceremony I would have loved to seen Mr Bennett being pushed down the pool but I couldn't make it but I do help everyone's being safe and healthy and if you have any problems uh always make sure to contact us
051because that's what we're here for thank you trustee Stafford uh just like to say thank you to all the sites for their presentations uh Grant we have a few more pools to go so you'll be swimming yeah bring some trunks and uh that's all I have for today thank you Mr Stafford and nothing for me today so we'll move on to 10.1 invitation to address the Board of Trustees on non-agendized items we do have one taker so I will run through my Spiel once again uh individual speakers shall be allowed three minutes to address the board of on each agenda or non-agenda item the board shall limit the total time for public input on each item to 20 minutes with board consent the president may increase or decrease the time allowed for Public Presentation depending
052on the topic and the number of persons wishing to be heard in addition the president may take a poll of speakers for or against a particular issue and may ask that the additional persons speak only if they have something new to add and when you have Mr Paul Clay on conditions at Heritage High School thank you board again I'm very appreciative to be able to speak here and I apologize that just as you were announcing me my alarm went off I had thought honestly that I said it for six o'clock am but I'm still learning how to use my phone all right so I apologize profusely for that and I know that you have come to think of me as the bad news bear I got my Bears thing here so Bears fan but I
053really wanted to to address you about the changes that have happened at Heritage since last year and as you all know there were some serious problems there we have a virtually almost completely new management team and um it's it's hard to believe that almost from the the moment the doors opened up and we all started going back into class the atmosphere was changed 180 degrees the other direction everything had improved so remarkably that we talk about it we talk about the difference in the impact that this Administration has had just from the first day we knew that it was different it's not to say there aren't issues we do address them and they have improved and we do feel that Administration is listening so um I could go on I don't need to you guys
054get the picture we are very grateful for this this um this change the the teachers are are and and I shouldn't be speaking for them I'll speak for myself I am very grateful I am very happy that uh this is moving in such a positive direction and so quickly um I do have to run now that alarm was not really an alarm for me to do anything right now but I do have to run now but I just wanted to make sure that you understood that um it's a work in progress but we're at a different place than we were last year at this time as you may recall so thank you very much and I appreciate this opportunity and I yield the rest of my time thank you thank you Mr Clay it's wonderful
055news also the goatee looks awesome [Laughter] all right moves on to an action item number 11.1 consent calendar approval do I have a motion move Dr Freeman the second trustee staffer please vote [Music] 11.1 passes five in favor zero opposed 12.1 is an information item or or excuse me oral report on summer school update all right good evening president Nelson and board superintendent Bennett in the cabinet I'm excited to be here to talk about summer school this year we had another great summer school this year it's been a lot of fun having kids back on campus and excited about baking here um we just want to share kind of the success that we saw over the summer we had lots of students attend summer school and lots of kids recover credits as always we want
056to look at our lcap goals and keep in mind that this is what we're here for and making sure we're addressing these for all of our students so this year at summer school we had 2 535 students attend summer school we had 000 287 credits earned and 5058 courses completed this summer so this was really great news for our students as we are still recovering from some of the covid struggles of our students it was great to have so many students willing to come to summer school and participate we had a great number of teachers that were willing to come and support students this summer and so we also had the breakdown of the different subgroups I won't read those all to you but just wanted to make sure that you got to see the
057different subgroups and how many students were on campus with the recovery of all those credits this really helped impact some of our graduation struggles that some of our students had as well so this summer we actually had 45 students participate in the summer school graduation some of you were able to join us for that and it was great to see how many students were excited about being there first in the summer school graduation we started doing it on the last day of summer school the last two years and the kids have really liked being able to finish their courses and then that afternoon get to come and graduate with their class members and so this year a total of 2081 students graduated from our district we have the breakdown of number of credits if you
058remember this past year we had 130 credits was what the ab104 allowed students to graduate with we still had 185 credits for students as well as 225 so you'll see the breakdown up top as far as the number of students per category we had 167 students that graduated with 130 credits this year and that includes all the campuses um the number of graduates with 185 credits was 606 and then the number of graduates with 225 where it was 1 308. and this is just a celebration picture of what graduation was like with all of our students we had students from all of the the campuses um um that day and then you'll see the excited Paris High students there on your right side are there any questions that you guys would like me to answer
059in regards to summer school you know all right thank you I'd like to thank the zero that's the last two summers have been the biggest summer school in our history and she has led that effort and has really created amazing opportunities for kids so she forgot to I think herself well it's also great to see 45 extra kids and graduate that didn't make it at the end of last year because of credit deficiency but they were able to make it some 45 showed up 45 showed up oh sort of okay oh very cool very cool thank you I think we're going to be over as a district over 90 with our friends great all right 12.2 is another information item attendance Plan update good evening board president Mr Nelson board members Mr Bennett and cabinet
060this evening I will be providing an update on our attendance plan for this current year so as you know the um and the attendance plan falls under goal number three all departments and sites will provide a safe and positive learning environment for all students and staff I tried to highlight that by Bolding it and doing it italicized but it didn't pop out too much so I wanted to begin with our district enrollment currently for this year we have enrolled 11 751 students and you can see all of our active site information it's listed there by the largest enrollment to the smallest Paloma Valley high school has the largest enrollment I do want to say that as a district we are growing um this year in comparison to last year we have increased in enrollment by
061622 students so the enrollment specifically has increased at Paris High School Liberty High School CMI pinnacotta middle school and and Pals and as you know with increased enrollment that's a positive where that puts us in a good situation with increased opportunities for Ada so I just wanted to highlight the increased enrollment so here is the three-year comparison in the attendance rate I want to begin by apologizing I did not disaggregate the data by ethnicity for the next three slides but I will make sure to get that information normally Carrie Bobbitt who is no longer with us in our district normally he assists me with that so unfortunately I don't have that so I'll make sure that we do get that for you immediately and we'll we'll update that information for you foreign so you can
062see here in 2019-20 the attendance rate was 94.6 percent and during the covert year 2021 the attendance rate was not calculated as a result of covid but during the 21-22 school year the attendance rate was 88.2 percent so the rate is lower than the 2019-20 rate but obviously it is higher than than last year but we knew coming in this last year that the attendance rate would be impacted as a result of coveted illnesses and and symptoms and you recall last year that aside from students who were out ill and they were either in isolation or in quarantine for 10 days if they were at school they reported any symptoms we were sending them home here is the three-year comparison for Ada in 2019 so I I have listed all of the school sites and
063over at the very end to the right hand side you've got the district percentages so in 2019-20 the Ada rate was 96.3 percent so that's district-wide and then for the 2000 2021 that wasn't calculated as a result of of covid for the 2122 school year overall there was a decline in the Ada and we had talked about that that was as a result of of covid it was at 90.5 percent in comparison to the 2019-20 Ada rate which was at 96.3 percent so as I mentioned earlier again there was there was a decline as a result of of coveted illnesses and symptoms when we were sending students home so as I mentioned more students who were out ill and who had coveted symptoms and so for precautionary we were making sure as we mentioned earlier
064that our students and staff were safe and healthy here you have the three-year comparison for The Chronic absenteeism rate again the district numbers are over to the far right in 2019-20 The Chronic absenteeism rate was 15.67 percent so that's district-wide during 2021 The Chronic absenteeism rate was significantly higher and we're all aware of that as a result of covert that was 75.6 percent and during the 21-22 school year The Chronic absenteeism rate was significantly lower in comparison to the 2021 at 30.12 percent but it doubled from the 20 1920 school year um nonetheless it was something that we were focusing on this this past year so I wanted to take a moment to talk about one of the areas of focus that we have as a as a district this year we want to strengthen
065our mtss program district-wide um I know you all know that we can't focus on instruction if our students are not in their seats students are not in their seats if they don't feel healthy if they don't feel welcomed if they don't feel supported so as a result district-wide we are working with the sites to evaluate what the student needs are we want to identify what resources are available at each of the sites and we want to build programs to support students academically socially and emotionally each site has already identified a mtss committee and they've started work they started with Mr abrupt's leadership a few years ago but this year they've already met in addition to that they will be meeting monthly as a district committee to begin to build that comprehensive mtss program and you're
066probably wondering well how does that align with with attendance well we want to make sure that mtss program addresses the attendance issues and going back to ensuring that our students feel safe welcomed and cared for and we know that when kids feel seen and heard they're going to want to come to school if they have a connection with with a caring adult if they have teachers who are greeting them or if they've got counselors who are addressing some of their social needs or their academic needs they're going to want to come to school so we want to make sure that all of those areas attendance discipline and academics are all aligned and we're all working on one effort to encourage kids to be at school and be in their seats ready to learn [Music] so
067as we're moving into the plan for student engagement and participation our attendance plan we are going to continue our collaboration with attention to it attendance that's the ATA program that we've been working with for many years now and they assist us with identifying students who will receive that letter one letter two or that letter three or we're bringing awareness to the family that there isn't an attendance issue we did have a training and I'm really proud of this we did have a training that was held September 13th we invited all of our APS over attendance our attendance clerks and our lead counselors and they were actually in this room here the training was led by myself we also had our ATA representative and we also invited our district attorney Mr Justin Morrell now we wanted
068to help them navigate through the ATA platform it is and can be a little challenging but we wanted to make sure that not only were our APS trained but our Clerks so that there is a backup and they're working together as a team to identify the students who are supposed to receive letters one two or three I also wanted the lead counselors here so they could use that platform as they're working with their students and they're identifying that there is a need and they're helping the attendance clerks and the assistant principals connect kids to resources to help re-engage them to school in addition to that we also walk them through the sart sarb and the mediation process and it was just really important for me to convey the message to everyone in the room at
069the training but everyone here too that um every single one of us plays a critical role in the lives of our students and attendance is everyone's responsibility beginning with the parent who encourages their student to come to school it's the student's responsibility to be in school it's that campus supervisor or the suit or the support staff at the gate who is greeting students in the morning the teacher who's standing at the door greeting kids also acknowledging kids when they've been absent the very next day they recognize that that they're back and as I mentioned earlier the counselor who is working with the students to connect them with resources and the administrator to make sure that those letters that bring in awareness of the importance of attendance are going out to to families on a consistent
070basis so everyone has to work together everyone's role is important and I wanted to convey that message at that at the training and tonight that we all have to work together to ensure that again students feel welcomed and cared for and they're going to want to come to school um in addition to that we're going to continue our smart goals last year um during my first year I asked all of our APS over attendance to identify a smart goal so they're going to go back and they're going to look at their goals or their attendance rate from last year they're going to resubmit that this year and they're going to come up with an incentive plan so we also did that last year if you remember everyone every site did an amazing job of working
071with their with their students and coming up with an incentive plan I know if you remember Heritage High School came up with that great event where 500 students were acknowledged for improvement in attendance near 100 attendance in those kiddos who did actually have 100 so we're going to continue to do that in addition to that we're we already have our sarte and our sarb schedule created for the year we're going to continue to embrace the restorative approach where we're working with families inviting them in listening to the the stressors that they're dealing with identifying what those barriers are connecting them to resources to address those barriers and trying to re-engage them back into into the school setting we have had great success this past year with our district attorney who is a part of our
072SAR panel again following that restorative approach wanting to just be a part and collaborate with with the district and just making sure that there's an additional resource to support the family not to get the family into trouble but just to let the family know these are the resources available if you continue in this path this is what could happen so it's just a collaborative approach to connect families and just encourage them that they are not alone that they are supported by the district and we just want to re-engage them back into the school setting and then this year we're going to be a little bit more intentional with our mental Wellness strategies we did a lot of great work last year in our wellness centers with our social workers and our counselors um during the
073summer we revamped our data collection to ensure that we're collecting accurate data so that we can identify and Implement effective appropriate services and interventions for all of our students and and as I mentioned our social workers and our our counselors are there they're available um at every School site to support students and their and their families in addition to that we'll continue to do home visits and we'll make phone calls the school sites conduct their own home visits and they're conducted by administrators and their support staff in my office I do have two attendance Specialists I just hired one Elizabeth trevidia she was our receptionist so now we have we have two so they will conduct home visits at the at the district level in addition to that we also now have two Community Liaisons
074who will support the work in attendance so they also do phone calls but we will also pair them with an attendance specialist so when they go out and home visits they're going now it's it's safety in numbers in the past when we were doing home visits our attendance Specialists were going out together and if there was only one that my social worker was was assisting so just really happy that we have the additional support to make the phone calls in and have a greater effort in reaching out to families um this I wanted to share is our tiered approach to attendance I just wanted to make sure that I didn't forget I think I went through yeah I did so this is our tiered approach to attendance you can see down there at the bottom
075is our tier one these are our Universal um interventions that are uh class wide school-wide you can see that we and they should be research based you could see we've got the school connectedness carrying relationships and SEL supports and I've I've talked about the importance of engaging and and interacting positively with with students and amongst ourselves so that kids feel feel supported and I've talked about the site-based incentives and and in that tier one section that's that first letter that goes out after three days of of truancy for tier two small group interventions you'll see that that's where letter two goes out after six days of truancy that's when we invite families to the school site for a start meeting again we're going to focus on the restorative approach to ID the Barriers address the
076barriers and connect the families and students to the resources there on campus or maybe we're making referrals out to community-based organizations if there's an additional type of service that we as a School site or a district don't don't provide in addition to that that sarc contract is signed I mentioned the the scholars Saturdays um previously so we also have a schedule for the the Saturday schools that we've now termed Scholars Saturdays and you recall there was just a lot of great opportunity for kids to get tutoring get involved in extracurricular activities or maybe they're doing some SEL lessons they're they're right now planning to be very creative and think outside the box to really engage kids to come in and get the support that they need so that they can make up for any truancies
077or absences that they had during the school year and then the the home visits fall under tier two and then tier three the Intensive and individualized support that's when letter three goes out after nine days of of truancy we hold our SAR meetings and we talked about that there's a SARP contract and then the the mediation Falls in that tier three and if you recall we've had one mediation that we scheduled last year and it was a great opportunity again to connect with the family and just get to know what the issues are and really work with them on an individual basis and connect them with the resources that help not just the student but the family be successful the last thing I did want to share I had the opportunity to go to a
078student mental Wellness conference this this past week actually and the keynote speakers and the the presenters they all talked about three things that made an impact on students success and well-being and actually getting kids to school and you've heard me mention it already during this presentation and that's School connectedness caring relationships and SEL supports and in terms of school connectedness just the belief that students feel that adults and their peers care about them and they are seen and they are are heard and there's a lot of research that shows that when students do feel seen and heard and that they're carrying adults at school they're going to want to come to school and again with with caring relationships just that that they feel that their teachers or School administrators are creating a caring welcoming environment
079so that all students have an opportunity to Excel and then the scl supports and I did add like references so if you wanted to to follow up on that at the end of each section but in terms of SEL supports just making sure that we're identifying these supports in all areas it's not just mental Wellness but in the academic and in behavioral and attendance because they all align and when we're working together and we're aligning all of these Services we're going to see greater success and student achievement and well-being and just to close it up I did want to just add as a district we've focused on creating a culture of care for our students and our employees and as a district I am really proud of the fact that we offer Mental Health Resources
080for our students but also for our employees and their families I start every single one of my meetings and I have since we've been offering programs since I was over at Paris Lake and at the Academy I always start every single one of my meetings with bringing awareness to the resources that we as a district offer employees and I and I emphasize the importance of taking care of yourself before you can take care of anyone else and as Educators we were human we need to make sure that we are taking time to focus on the things that bring us calm and re-energize us so that when we're in the classroom running a school sitting up here running a department that we're able to show up for not just our students but but our but our
081staff and so I just wanted to emphasize the the importance of making sure that our students and our employees feel like as a district we care and you're probably asking why is Dr Garcia talking about Mental Health Services during this attendance presentation we know that our students and employees would be returning from covid to in-person instruction last year having dealt with trauma in fact everyone in this room was impacted by its students and employees may still be dealing with some of those triggers and or they may have additional stressors that they're dealing with that we don't know and it could impact their attendance and the healing process for everybody is is different so as we embrace the culture of care we need to be mindful of every interaction that we have with students our employees
082and each other because for many it's probably taken them all the strength they have to keep it together on the surface so we know that students aren't going to show up or have academic success if they don't feel seen or hurt and we have to remind them that they're not alone and we do have these resources that are available to them and to ensure that students and employees are aware in addition to sharing the information as often as I can we do have the you matter cards that that we printed up we've got the blue ones for students but this year we have yellow ones for for employees so my social worker Portia Calhoun came to me and she said you know we're talking about supporting students and stuff what would you think if we
083did something like this and so I thought it was a great idea so we went to the human resource website pulled out all of the the resources there and put it on that card so now we've got one for students and one for for staff they're really small you could put it in your in your wallet or or in your purse but really the goal is when you feel good you're going to want to be at school you're going to want to be at work when you feel like somebody cares you're going to want to be at school you're going to want to be at work so with that I end my presentation and I'm open to questions no questions okay um not a question just a comment I I like the way that um
084these interventions dealing with the families uh that's important you seem to have all the areas covered for what the district can do with the family is most important in that student's success it's just a reality that you can't do it all it has to be a foundation there so um you're working on that and I really see that makes a difference I really do so thank you thank you okay yeah I actually also want to comment that uh it's a really great presentation and then it's good that we're not only uh making an appointment in importance for students students will help but it's always the employees too because we also have like a lot of stuff going on we have our families we have work we have like other things that's going on and that's
085something really important to touch base on that I really appreciate because when we work so hard we forget about ourselves we're just like oh man I should have taken that mental health day and that's something that I really want all of you guys to do too because I see you guys and all you guys work very very hard I don't know how you do it uh you guys are all superheroes to me but just really remember to take those mental healthies because that's really important or like even if you want to like meditate for 15 minutes that's good as well you know and uh also can you send me this presentation or is it going to be on the drive okay perfect because I actually want to read more on the on the cell support
