[music] [music] >> [music] [applause] >> You may be seated. Thank you, Mr. Ruiz and band students, parents, friends, faculty, graduates. Good evening. Welcome to the commencement exercises for the Brookville High School class of 2026. >> [cheering] >> We are honored that you could join us to celebrate this special occasion. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Brookville community, parents, grandparents, and extended families for your dedication to today's graduates. Before I introduce your class president, I want to take a moment to recognize our students with cords. These cords represent awards and achievements for our students. At this time, if you are wearing a cord, please rise. [cheering] [applause] [applause and cheering] Thank you. Now, it is my pleasure to introduce your class president, Llaya Aair. [cheering] [applause] Laya is the daughter of James

and Jodia tear. In ninth grade, Laya was a Senate page at the Senate of Virginia. In her 10th grade, she graduated from the American Independence Youth Leadership Conference. Laya was a member of the leadership class last year. She is your class president, vice president of swarm, a member of the national honor society where she serves as treasurer, a member of the key club and political science club, competition cheer, and sideline cheer. Laya received first team all region for region 3C and competition cheerleading. This past season, she won the coaches award in competition cheerleading and the MVP award in both sideline and competition cheerleading. This year, Laya was chosen as a member of the Youth Philanthropy Council. Laya is a health sciences dual enrollment student at CBCC and was on on the president's list this year.

Laya will be attending Longwood University where she will be a part of the competition cheer squad and study premed. [cheering] Good evening, family, friends, faculty, staff, and most importantly, the graduating class of 2026. My name is Llaya Eter, and I am this year's senior class president. When senior year first began, I thought I had everything planned out. I have always been a planner, so naturally, I wanted to write this speech months ago before life became busy and graduation season became overwhelming. But every time I sat down to write it, I realized something. How was I supposed to write about senior year before I had actually lived it? [snorts] And now standing here tonight, I finally understand why I couldn't write it then. Because the biggest lessons from high school are not the ones you learned

sitting at a desk. They are the ones you learn slowly through people, through change, through heartbreak, through growth, and through the moments you never saw coming. Over the last four years, we have all been given titles: student, athlete, leader, artist, honor graduate, teammate, friend. Some of us became known for achievements, others for personalities, and some of us spent years simply trying to figure out where we belonged. But the question I keep coming back to is this: Who are we without the titles high school has given us? Because the truth is, these four years are such a small part of our whole story. As important as Brookville has been, this is not the peak of our lives. This is not the final version of who we are. We are still becoming. We are still growing. We

truly are just getting started. And maybe that's both the scary and beautiful part of graduation. Tomorrow we wake up without the structure we have always known, without the schedules, the routines, the classrooms, or the labels we have carried for years. Tomorrow we wake up with a choice. My mom, who is both my biggest inspiration and my biggest supporter, has always told me something simple that has stayed with me for years. Each day is a choice. And I think that matters now more than ever. Because tomorrow, when you wake up as a Brookville High School graduate, you get to choose who you become. You get to decide whether these years were simply something you went through or whether they become a tool, a tool for growth. You get to decide whether you will allow the challenges,

mistakes, and memories from these four years to shape you into someone wiser, kinder, stronger, and more compassionate. And one of the biggest choices you will ever make is who you choose to walk through life with. High school teaches you quickly that friendships can change. People come and go. Some friendships last for years, while others quietly fade with time. And sometimes that can hurt. Sometimes it can be confusing. But I think growing up also means realizing that not every person is meant to stay forever. What matters most is choosing the people who make you better. Choose the people who encourage you when life gets hard. Choose the people who celebrate your success without competing with it. Choose the people who remind you who you are when you start to forget. Choose the people who bring you

closer to God, closer to your purpose, and closer to the person you want to become. Because eventually, accomplishments fade, awards collect dust, and titles change. But the people who stood beside you during every season of life, those are the people you remember forever. I think some of the most meaningful parts of high school were never the huge moments anyone posted about online. They were the little moments. The conversations in parking lots after football games, the laughter during stressful weeks, the late night drives, the moments someone stayed when they did not have to. The people who made ordinary days feel important simply because they were there. And I think that reflects something so important about the way God designed us. We were never meant to do life alone. Proverbs 27:17 says, "As iron sharpens iron, so

one person sharpens another." That verse reminds me that life is not about trying to prove we can do everything by ourselves. It is about learning to love people well, support people well, and surround ourselves with people who help us grow. And as we leave this place, that becomes even more important because the world will try to tell us that success is about status, recognition, or proving yourself. But I honestly think a meaningful life is measured more by the people you loved, the people you impacted, and the way you made others feel. Years from now, people may not remember every achievement we had in high school, but they will remember who showed up for them, who cared, and who stayed. So, as we move into this next season of life, I hope we remember that this

is only the beginning. There are still so many people we have yet to meet, so many places we have yet to go, so many versions of ourselves we have yet to discover. And even though change can feel overwhelming, I think there is something comforting in knowing that God already sees the full story when we can only see one chapter. Tonight is not an ending. It is a beginning. A beginning of becoming the people we were created to be. So, class of 2026, as you leave Brookville, choose growth over comfort. Choose faith over fear. Choose kindness even when it is difficult. And most importantly, choose your people wisely. Because who you surround yourself with will shape your life way more than you realize. And when life becomes uncertain, which it inevitably will, I hope you surround

yourself with people who remind you of truth, remind you of joy, and remind you of who you are. These four years were never meant to define us forever. They were simply preparing us for everything ahead. And wherever life takes us next, I hope we never forget this. We are not finished becoming. We are only just getting started. Thank you and congratulations, class of 2026. [cheering and applause] Thank you, Laya. Before I recognize our special guests on stage, I would like to take this time to recognize the faculty of Brookville High School. Will the teachers please rise? [cheering] [applause] >> Teachers, thank you for your unwavering dedication to our students. While we have been under a renovation for far too long, your dedication, support, and care you put into helping our students grow into young adults

has not changed. This is what makes Brookville a special community. I thank you for being role models for our students. [applause] You may be seated. At this time, I would like to recognize special guests on stage. Our school board members from the Sunburst District, Mrs. Karen Tanner [applause] from the Spring Hill District, Miss Kristen Bond. Thank you for supporting Brookville and Campbell County Schools. Also on stage is our school counseling director, Mrs. Tracy Daniels. [applause and cheering] School counselors, Miss Anna Cisk and Mr. Chris Shenko. [cheering] Assistant principles, Mr. Rollin Adam and Mr. Bobby Marky. [cheering] And now your course will sing for you Light of Grace. Hello. Hello. >> [music] >> May the road rise up [singing] to meet you. May the [singing] wind be always at your back. Till we meet again. [music

and singing] Till we meet again. May [singing and music] the sun shine warm upon your [music] face. [singing] Your face. And may you be the [singing] light of grace. >> [music] >> May [music and singing] your joys may your be [singing] [music] bright as morning and your [singing] home and your hope as [music] the sky boundless [singing] as the sky. Till we meet [music] again. [singing] Till we meet again. [singing and music] May the sunshine warm upon your [singing and music] face. Your face. And may you [singing] be the light of grace. >> [music] >> May you [singing] find a rainbow and clouds have gone and a shooting star [music] to wish. [singing] Till we meet [singing] again. Till we meet again. May the sunshine [music] warm upon [singing] your your face your face. And

may [music and singing] you be the light [singing] of grace. Amazing [singing] grace, [music] how sweet the [music] sound. [singing] [music] [cheering] [applause] >> [applause] >> Thank you, Miss West Coode and core students. Seniors, tonight we celebrate achievement. We celebrate the late nights, the hard work, the friendships, the victories, the setbacks, and the resilience that brought the class of 2026 to this moment. Seniors, you have crossed a milestone that once felt far away, and you should be incredibly proud. As you sit here tonight in your caps and gowns, I want you to look around this room. Look at your classmates. Look at your teachers. Look at the people who have invested it in you along the way. And now think about this. Many of the teachers, coaches, counselors, and staff members who stood beside you

these past four years once sat exactly where you are sitting tonight. If you graduated from Brookville High School, worked or currently work at Brookville High School, or volunteer coach at Brookville High School, please stand. >> [cheering] [applause] >> Seniors look around. They remembered the people who encouraged them, challenged them, and believed in them. They remembered the experiences that helped shape their future. And because of that, they felt called to come back in some way to give another generation the same opportunities and support they once received. That is why so many schools are built on generations of people who return to serve. Some come back as teachers. Some return as coaches. Some volunteer their time. Some mentor students. Some support schools events, organizations, athletics, and arts programs. Some simply show up and encourage and invest in

the next generation. They come back because this this place mattered to them. No matter. No, not because they had to, because they wanted to. That is the power of community. The Brookville community, the Maroon and Gold pride and 100 years of tradition and excellence. Thank you to all who have come back and served at Brookville High School. [applause] Seniors, tonight is not really about leaving this place behind. It is about understanding that no matter where life takes you, you are now a part of the story of this school forever. Some of you will go far from here. Some of you will stay close to home. Some of you already know your next step while others are still figuring it out. All of those paths are okay. But wherever life takes you, I challenge you to

remember this. Success is not only measured by what you accomplish for yourself. It is also measured by what you give back to others. One day, years from now, a student may walk into a classroom, onto a stage, onto a field, or into a workplace where you are the person making a difference. You may become the teacher who inspires confidence, the coach who teaches perseverance, the business owner who gives someone their first opportunity, the nurse who comforts a family, the parent who volunteers, the mentor who says, "I believe in you." when a young person needs to hear it most. And maybe, just maybe, some of you will find your way back here. Because schools are more than buildings. They are generations connected together. Every graduating class leaves something behind for the next one. Traditions, pride, leadership,

and examples of what is possible. The experience you had here were shaped by the people who came before you. Now, it becomes your turn to shape the experiences of those who come after you. If you loved your high school experience, help create that feeling for someone else. If your journey here was difficult at times, use that experience to make things better for others. If someone gave you encouragement, pass it on. That is how communities grow stronger. That is how schools build legacies. That is how people leave a mark that matters. Class of 2026, no matter where you go, this school will always be a part of you. and you will always be a part of this school. So go chase your dreams boldly, work hard, stay humble, lead with kindness, and never forget the responsibility

and the privilege of helping others have a better experience because you were there. Congratulations, class of 2026. [cheering] [applause] I am pleased to introduce to you your saludiatoran, Brianna Fam. [cheering] Brianna is the daughter of Ricky and Jenny Fam. Brianna was a member of the girls tennis team all four years, student council association for three years where she served as historian for two years and council member for one year. A member of the key club all four years where she served as historian for one year and a member of the National Honor Society where she served as historian this year. Brianna served on the student advisory committee for our school for two years where she met with school board members to come up with solutions and implement change within our school. She participated in Miss

Brookville last year. She organized and ran a Toy Drive last year and this year. Brianna is a Gates Scholar. She attended early college where she received the Governor's Scholar Medal. Brianna plans to attend University of Virginia to study human biology and then also attend med school. >> [applause] >> Good evening, family, friends, faculty, and everyone else here today. My name is Brianna Fam, and somehow I have the honor of speaking in front of you tonight as the Brookville class of 2026 saludiatoran. I'll make I'll try and make this speech sound at least kind of meaningful. As I reminisce on the last four years, the one thing that comes to mind is how high school has felt like one big Pokemon game. And I know that sounds far-fetched, but hear me out. We've gone through our

battles, found our Pokemon, who are our people, and explored different routes. While we may have taken similar classes, made some of the same friends, and been into the same clubs, we didn't experience it in the exact same way. That's the beautiful thing about Pokemon, and I think about life. You can go through the same map, the same gyms, trainers, even end up in the same place, but you won't have the same journey. You won't have identical teams, matching batting styles, or struggle with the same battles. Each of us have had our ups and downs. Where one excels, another may need multiple attempts to succeed. And that's okay. We have lived our own personal journeys, become unique trainers, and have built our own distinct story. But no matter what path you've taken, we all still ended

up in the same place. In this case, graduation tonight. Again, a beautiful thing, I think. As I look into this crowd full of familiar and unfamiliar faces, I know that you have all fought your own seemingly impossible battles to make it to this point. And I could not be more proud of you and this class. My own journey has been full of battles and wins full of memories. From crashing out during biology, physics, even public speaking with Kiki and Carmen, if you know, you know, getting rage baited by the same person, being performative, gossiping with the mean girls plus Chase, or or a faming with or or a faming with my tennis team. These moments are the ones I'll always hold dear. Of course, I can't acknowledge anyone without acknowledging my family, specifically my parents,

for supporting me to this point. I simply wouldn't be here tonight if they didn't encourage me to push myself every day and to try new things. So, again, thank you. Remember to thank those who have been on your team, whether they were someone you started high school with or just met, because the battles couldn't be won or lost without them. All I have left to say now to you before we walk this stage and officially become Brookville graduates is to continue your journey. Continue to build your team and fight through every battle, even if it takes multiple tries. Just because this path ends tonight doesn't mean there isn't a route to explore later. The game doesn't end after the championship, and neither does your story. Continue to fight and become a better trainer because I

know you all will do great things. Be the best you, the best there ever was. Thank you. [cheering] [applause] >> Thank you, Brianna. I am now pleased to introduce to you your validictorian, Parker Stanberry. [cheering] [applause] He is the son of Fred and Susan Stanberry. Parker played soccer all four years, wrestled in his ninth and tth grade years. He served as a member of the student council association this year, a member of the Key Club, 11th and 12th grade, a member of the National Honors Society, 11th and 12th grade, a member of the chess club 10th and 11th grade, a member of the Latin Club, 9th and 10th grade. Parker attended the Central Virginia Governor School and was Big Future Ambassador. This year he earned the Big Future National Merit Program Award, the AP Scholar

with Distinction Award, and was a Central Virginia Governor School Ambassador his 11th grade year. Parker is an Eckles Scholar, which is a merit-based honors program at UVA, where less than 10% are accepted, and Parker is a Jefferson Scholar finalist. Parker will also be attending University of Virginia to major in human biology and then attend med school. >> [cheering] [applause] >> Let's do what bees do. Give me one last buzz real quick. >> I You said you would do it. You liar. [laughter] >> It's good to see you all here. You know, I thought about being humble up here, but I decided against it. Four years ago, I walked into Brookville knowing three things. I was going to work harder than everyone around me. I was going to be better than I was yesterday. And I

was certainly going to be insufferable about both of those things. Two out of three isn't bad. I was expecting more. Thanks, Noah. But here's the thing about spending four years trying to be the best at everything. You spend a lot of time alone. And for a while, that feels like the cost of ambition, the cost of wanting, the sacrifice to get where you're going. And maybe it was worth it. You can spend four years with your head down, but eventually you have to come up for air. And when I did, I realized something had changed. It was less of a revelation and more of a breath. and more of like a Tuesday evening. I just looked up and the room was different, not how I remembered leaving it. And suddenly the things I used to

ignore became the things that I remembered most, the things I wanted to remember more. I found myself geeked from watching the forest of trees sway to my friends trying to figure out where they were in FIFA. I also began reliving the days where we played backyard football until it got banned just because we kept fighting. And those memories stuck with me because they reminded me that none of us were alone and that I was never alone. Now, I spent four years being very focused, very driven, and usually a lot to deal with. I wish someone had kept count of how many times we said we were failing that test and then aced it anyway. Or how many nights we swore we were done with school because of that English assignment or that stupid slideshow [laughter]

only to show up the next morning and the morning after that. But those are my examples because I was that kid. I want it to seem like I hated what I was doing, but really I liked it. Actually, I loved it. What nobody tells you about caring so deeply about something is that it's embarrassing. You care too much, you try too hard, or you're the person who decided to dance in a dance circle outside of our fan favorite. And at some point, you have to decide whether to be embarrassed about that or just own it. I owned it. I enjoyed making sure you all knew I owned it. But here's what I didn't expect. The struggling, the actual like grinding, the why is this so hard kind of struggling. Even with passion, this was difficult

though. It was better when you were around. Not easy, not easier, but better. Khil Jabbrron wrote that love is for your growth. Just as it crowns you, it shall crucify you. I have found that kind of love in my family, this faculty, and our class. You grew me and annoyed me, but mostly grew me. Four years with this group taught me more about myself than I ever would have thought. Mostly about what I need, what I don't, and how much of the few right people outweigh everything else. I love you. Go do the work. Go struggle towards something worth the struggle. Go find your people and let them find you. And when they do, don't make them wait four years to figure out that you needed them. I could have told you that sooner. I

just wasn't ready to be humble about it yet. And to leave you with one last thing. Be bold. Be original. And be [laughter] bees. Congratulations, class of 2026. >> [applause] [cheering] >> Thank you, Parker. Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Bobby Marky will now begin reading the names of the candidates for graduation. [cheering] No, I met you. [cheering] At this time, will the first row of candidates for graduation please rise and approach the stage? [cheering] Let's go.
